Small-scale and high-performance energy storage devices have drawn tremendous attention with their portable, lightweight, and multi-functionalized features. Here, we present a foldable supercapacitor with affordable flexibility by adopting a developed design and electrode material system as a way to extend usability. Notably, to resolve the limited energy density of conventional capacitors, we successfully synthesize the CoO/NiCo-layered double hydroxide (LDH) core-shell nanostructure on Ni framework as a cathode material. Laboratory data were collected before and after treatment; moreover, the bacterial susceptibility characteristics and risk factors for sepsis were comprehensively analyzed using the Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) score.Results: The SOFA score was negatively correlated with the prognosis (P < 0.05). We isolated 47 pathogenic strains from blood culture samples, including 29 gram-positive strains, 18 gram-negative strains. The most common gram-negative pathogens in blood cultures are Klebsiella pneumoniae and Escherichia coli, while the most common gram-positive pathogens are Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus hominis. Gram-negative pathogens had resistance rates of 77% and 62.5% to ciprofloxacin and ceftriaxone, respectively. Gram-positive bacteria had a high resistance to penicillin at 100%. Prognostic factors for sepsis included patients’ consciousness, SOFA score, prothrombin time, international normalized ratio, fibrinogen, D-dimer, and aspartate aminotransferase (P < 0.05). Of these, the D-dimer level could predict the outcome of patients with sepsis (AUC = 0.661, P < 0.05).Conclusion: The pathogens detected in adult sepsis in Wenzhou are mainly Klebsiella pneumoniae, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Staphylococcus hominis. The pathogens exhibited differences in drug susceptibility. The optimal antibiotics should be chosen based on the principles of rational use and drug susceptibility. Combined with D-dimer levels, these parameters can be used to determine the optimal strategy for preventing and treating pathogenic bacteria.Keywords: adult sepsis, drug susceptibility characteristics, risk factors, D-dimer

The aqueous rechargeable zinc ion batteries (ZIBs) have attracted many attentions because of their remarkable energy density, good reliability, and high safety as promising next-generation energy storage devices. However, the ZIBs also suffer from the restricted capacity and limited cycle life for the potential energy storage-conversion applications. In this work, the advanced Mo ions dopant in Co3O4-CNTc composites (as Mo-Co3O4-CNTc) with hierarchical porous ultrathin nanosheets have been prepared via the sol-gel method in the emulsion system as industrial manufacturing technologies and investigated as the promising cathode materials for aqueous rechargeable ZIBs. Owing to experimental electrochemical data and density-functional first-principles calculations, the as-prepared Mo-Co3O4-CNTc composites represent superior electrochemical performance than pure Co3O4 and Mo-Co3O4 electrode materials. Furthermore, the as-prepared MoCo-Zn batteries with zinc metal foil anode and Mo-Co3O4-CNTc cathode exhibited specific capacity of 195.7 mAh g–1 at 0.5 A g–1, energy density of 237.6 Wh kg–1 at 1692.4 W kg–1, and remarkably ultralong cycling life over 10000 cycles with 85.1% capacity retention according to the hierarchical porous structures with opened space as “ion-buffering reservoirs”. The MoCo-Zn batteries were systematically further investigated in the zinc ions storage mechanism via the ex-situ XRD patterns, Raman spectra, and XPS measurements. Hence, this work may promote the further development of innovative strategy to synthesize the carbon modification composites with hierarchical porous nanosheets as cathode materials for the ultra-long cycle-life aqueous rechargeable ZIBs towards potential applications.

As a model quasi-2D network intercalation electrodes, niobium pentoxide (Nb2O5) has gained numerous attention in electrochemical materials because of its structural stability and high safety. Nevertheless, Nb2O5 exhibits the inherent low conductivity of transition metal oxides, which limits the rate of ionic diffusion and charge transfer. To overcome the drawbacks, the nanoscale Nb2O5 can be synthesized to improve electrochemical performance. Here, we prepared the flower-like orthorhombic Nb2O5 (i.e., T-Nb2O5) nanostructures to evaluate the effect of Nb2O5 nanoparticle morphology associated with crystallinity for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) anode. T-Nb2O5-2 displays superior crystallinity, pore structure, capacity, reversibility, and cycling stability. Specifically, T-Nb2O5-2 exhibits the initial charge/discharge capacity of 289 and 525 mAh g−1 at 0.1 C, and after 100 cycles, the capacity is 178.2 mAh g−1 at 1 C when the solvothermal time is 16 h. This study shows that Nb2O5 with good crystallinity can slow down the volume expansion and structural deformation generated during the intercalation–deintercalation of Li-ions. We believe that the specified Nb2O5 presented in this work has great potential as a promising candidate for high-performance LIB anodes.

Nb2O5 has attracted much attention in various research filed such as hybrid capacitors, photo/electrocatalysis, and especially Li-ion batteries (LIBs) due to stable structure and high safety. Nevertheless, its low electronic conductivity (~ 3×10−6 S cm−1) degrades Li-storage performance that limits the practical use in LIBs. Here, we present a facile method for synthesis of T-Nb2O5 nanospheres/reduced graphene oxide composites by using niobium oxalate and bituminous coal as raw materials via a solvothermal method and subsequent calcination to enhance the conductivity of Nb2O5. In this work, the prepared Nb2O5 particles have excellent crystallinity that can be uniformly distributed onto the surface of the rGO layer to form Nb2O5/rGO composites. The electrochemical properties indicate that Nb2O5/rGO electrodes exhibit outstanding capacity, excellent reversibility, and superior cycle stability compared to other transition metal oxide-based electrodes. Notably, the initial capacities of the Nb2O5/rGO electrode at 0.02 A g−1 are 603 and 1104 mAh g−1, and the capacity still maintained 332 mAh g−1 after 100 cycles at 0.2 A g−1. Our synthetic approach provides a viable route to produce anode materials in a composite form facilitating nanostructured Nb2O5 with rGO exfoliated from bituminous coal for excellent performance in LIBs.

The Arabidopsis FOUR LIPS (AtFLP), an R2R3 MYB transcription factor, acts as an important stomatal development regulator. Only one orthologue protein of AtFLP, Oryza sativa FLP (OsFLP), was identified in rice. However, the function of OsFLP is largely unknown. In this study, we conducted RNA-seq and ChIP-seq to investigate the potential role of OsFLP in rice. Our results reveal that OsFLP is probably a multiple functional regulator involved in many biological processes in growth development and stress responses in rice. However, we mainly focus on the role of OsFLP in salt stress response. Consistently, phenotypic analysis under salt stress conditions showed that Osflp exhibited significant sensitivity to salt stress, while OsFLP over-expression lines displayed obvious salt tolerance. Additionally, Yeast one-hybrid assay and electrophoretic mobility shift assay (EMSA) showed that OsFLP directly bond to the promoter region of Oryza sativa B-type Cyclin-Dependent Kinase 1;1 ( OsCDKB1;1 ), and the expression of OsCDKB1;1 was repressed in Osflp . Disturbing the expression of OsCDKB1;1 remarkably enhanced the tolerance to salt stresses. Taken together, our findings reveal a crucial function of OsFLP regulating OsCDKB1;1 in salt tolerance and largely extend the knowledge about the role of OsFLP in rice.

Sesame husks have been explored as a novel precursor to prepare high-performance activated carbons through two pretreatment processes coupled with KOH activation. The optimal structure of as-prepared carbon, which consisted of numerous micropores, well-defined mesopores, high specific surface of 2772 m2/g and large total pore volume of 1.206 cm3/g, is obtained via pre-carbonization and KOH activation. When applied in supercapacitors, the as-prepared carbon-based electrode achieves high specific capacitance of 301 F/g and 155 F/g in 6 M KOH aqueous electrolyte and 1 M Et4NBF4/PC organic electrolyte, respectively. Moreover, it also shows superior cycling stability of 94.9% and 92.5% capacitance retention after 10,000 cycles in KOH and Et4NBF4/PC electrolyte. Hence, this work makes the sesame husks act as a novel carbonaceous precursor and makes the pre-carbonization combined with KOH activation as an effective method for electrode materials in supercapacitor applications.

Abiotic stresses adversely affect plant growth and the yield of crops worldwide. R2R3-MYB transcriptional factors have been found to be vital for plants to confer stress response. In Arabidopsis, FOUR LIPS (FLP, MYB124) and its paralogous MYB88 function redundantly regulated the symmetric division of guard mother cells (GMCs) and abiotic stress response. Here, OsFLP was identified as an R2R3-MYB transcriptional activator and localized in the nucleus. OsFLP was transiently induced by drought, salt stress and abscisic acid (ABA). Overexpression of OsFLP showed enhanced tolerance to drought and salt stresses. The stomatal density in OsFLP-OE plants was not changed, whereas the stomatal closure was sensitive to ABA treatment compared to wild-type plants. In contrast, OsFLP-RNAi plants had abnormal stomata and were sensitive to drought. Moreover, the transcripts of stomatal closure-related genes DST and peroxidase 24 precursor, which are identified as downstream of OsNAC1, were inhibited in OsFLP-RNAi plants. The yeast-one-hybrid assay indicated that OsFLP can specifically bind and positively regulate OsNAC1 and OsNAC6. Meanwhile, stress response genes, such as OsLEA3 and OsDREB2A, were up-regulated in OsFLP-OE plants. These findings suggested that OsFLP positively participates in drought stress, mainly through regulating regulators’ transcripts of OsNAC1 and OsNAC6.

The core–shell structured humic acid (HA)-based carbon composites were synthesized through liquid-phase coating coupled with further carbonization treatment at 900 °C. The crystal structures and morphologies of samples were explored by scanning and transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and Raman spectra, revealing that graphitized HA (GHA) has the same microstructure as microcrystal graphite, and intercalation/de-intercalation of lithium ion can be profitable. Meanwhile, a uniform carbon shell and distinct boundary between the GHA core and carbon shell can be noticed in a carbon coating GHA (CGHA) composite. By electrochemical characterizations, the first charge and discharge capacities of the 10% CGHA composite electrode are 463.0 and 597.1 mAh/g at a current rate of 0.1 C, respectively, with an initial coulombic efficiency of 77.5%. Moreover, 10% CGHA composite electrode continues to deliver a reversible specific capacity of 251.7 mAh/g at the current rate of 2 C even after 50 cycles. An enhanced rate capability is attained, with a reversible specific capacity of 173.5 mAh/g at a high current rate of 5 C. The electrochemical performance is improved because the amorphous carbon coating layer can effectually enhance the electrical conductivity, buffer the volume expansion during charging and discharging, and maintain the stability of the core–shell structure. These results suggest that the GCHA composites can be applied as a potential electrode material to prepare excellent performance and low-cost lithium-ion batteries (LIBs).

Lateral root branching along the primary root involves complex gene regulatory networks in model plant Arabidopsis. However, it is largely unclarified whether different plant species share a common mechanism to pattern the lateral root along the primary axis. In this study, we assessed the development pattern of lateral root among several dicot and monocot plants, including Arabidopsis, tomato, Medicago, Nicotiana, rice, and ryegrass by using an agar-gel culture system. Our results reveal a regular-spaced distribution pattern of lateral roots along the primary root axis of both dicot and monocot plants. Meanwhile, the root patterning is tightly controlled by root bending and the plant hormone auxin. However, nitrogen and phosphate starvations trigger distinguished root growth patterns among different plant species. Our studies strongly suggest a partially shared signaling pathway underlying root patterning of various plant species, and also provide a foundation for further identification of genes associated with root development.

Agglomeration is one of the major operational problems in fluidized bed system. Agglomeration in a fluidized bed heat exchanger of a 550-MWe circulating-fluidized-bed boiler was investigated, and the particles were found to be agglomerated by two types of microstructures: layer joint and bridge joint with two- and one-dimensional structures, respectively. Both the layer and bridge joints were found to be formed from the product of the sulfation reaction. The product-layer development in a lab-scale bubbling fluidized bed reactor was found very fast during the initial stage of sulfation, while the product-layer thickness was found to be on the order of micrometers, which is suggested to be the reason for the formation of layer joint. The bridge joint was found to be formed owing to the island overgrowth of the CaSO4 crystal. Both the layer and bridge joints were verified in a demonstration in a fixed-bed reactor, while the transmission-electron-microscopy investigation showed oriented and misoriented growth, respectively, of the bridge and layer joints. The present study not only elucidated the microstructural mechanism of the product-layer development during the gas–solid limestone sulfation reaction, but also demonstrated its relationship to the agglomeration phenomenon in a large-scale circulating-fluidized-bed boiler.

Porous carbon is considered as an ideal electrode material for supercapacitor applications. Meanwhile, converting coal into cleaner energy storage materials accords with the concept of green development nowadays. Herein, microporous carbons derived from anthracite (AMCs) were prepared via a simple KOH activation, which possess ultrahigh specific surface area (up to 2947 m2 g−1), developed pore structure (1.473 cm3 g−1 total pore volume) and considerable yield (≥42.3%). The optimized sample (AMC800) achieves largest micropore volume (0.947 cm3 g−1) and superior conductivity (976.56 S m−1). Therefore, AMCs reveals excellent electrochemical performances as electrode material with commercial level mass loading (∼10±0.5 mg cm−2). In aqueous electrolyte, the assembled SCs present outstanding specific capacitance (up to 282 F g−1 at 0.5 A g−1) and high rate performance (87.23% at 10 A g−1). For organic system, AMC800-based SC delivers superior energy density (34.08 Wh kg−1) and remarkable cycling stability (93.45% retention after 10,000 cycles), which are superior to supercapacitor grade commercial carbon (YP-50F). Hence, this work is significant to the actual production of coal-based porous carbon and its commercial application as supercapacitors electrode material.

Objective: Our aim was to detect the effects of DNA methylations in the phosphoethanolamine/ phosphocholine phosphatase (PHOSPHO1) gene on the therapeutic efficacy of simvastatin. Methods: We used an extreme sampling approach by selecting 211 individuals from approximately the top and bottom 15% of adjusted lipid-lowering response residuals to simvastatin (n=104 for the high response group and n=107 for the low response group) from a total of 734 subjects with hyperlipidemia. They received a daily oral dose of 20 mg simvastatin for eight consecutive weeks. DNA methylation loci at the PHOSPHO1 gene were measured using high-throughput next-generation sequencing-based sequencing technology. Fasting serum lipids were measured at baseline and after eight weeks of simvastatin treatment. Results: Mean PHOSPHO1 DNA methylation had a significant negative correlation with high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) variation (β=-0.014, P=0.045) in the high response group. After stratifying by body mass index (BMI), the associations between the PHOSPHO1 DNA methylations and the change in HDL-C in response to simvastatin were more significant in obese subjects with a BMI of 25 kg/m2 or higher (β=-0.027, P=0.002). Mean PHOSPHO1 methylation and traditional predictors could explain up to 24.7% (adjusted R2) of the change in HDL-C response in obese patients. There was a statistically significant additive interaction term (P=0.028) between BMI and mean PHOSPHO1 methylation in the model of the change in HDL-C in response to simvastatin. Conclusion: Our findings suggest that PHOSPHO1 DNA methylations are associated with a change in HDL-C in response to simvastatin treatment, and this association is especially dependent on the extent of patient obesity.

We developed amorphous porous carbon (i.e. humic acid resin-based amorphous porous carbon, HARC800) with the controlled porosity in the ordered structure as anode material for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) through the optimized annealing process supported by functional lignite and sodium alginate precursors. HARC800 has well-developed interconnected mesoporous and micropores, accounting for 85.7% and 14.3%, respectively. The porous characteristic of amorphous carbon materials can curtail the diffusion path of Na+, and promote the penetration of electrolyte in the material, which is very instrumental in intensify the dynamic property of the material, thereby promoting the storage of Na+. When it is applied to the anode for SIBs, the HARC800 provides an initial reversible capacity of 260 mA h g−1 at 30 mA g−1. Even at 2000 mA g−1, it appears 99 mA h g−1, indicating that it has excellent rate performance. It could be yielded 133 mA h g−1 after 200 cycles at 500 mA g−1, and maintain 119 mA h g−1 after 1000 cycles at 1000 mA g−1, suggesting its outstanding long-life cycle performance. This research proposes that reasonable control of the ratio of mesoporous and micropores can promote the Na+ storage performance of amorphous porous carbon materials.

Conventional MnOX nanostructure/hierarchical porous carbon (HPC) composites meet two problems: non–optimized mass loading and poor rate capability. Here we present a judicious design of MnOX–modified corrugated carton–derived HPCs by depositing MnOX nanostructures in the mesopores of HPCs. Using a synergy of gas pore formation and KOH etching, mesopore–rich HPCs with a high aspect ratio suitable for the efficient loading of MnOX are synthesized. The Mn catalysis–induced graphitization process achieved by hydrothermal carbonization yields the MnOX–modified corrugated carton–derived HPCs (CBPC–2–800@MnOX) with ultrafast kinetics behaviour. Even at an extremely low loading of MnOX, the CBPC–2–800@MnOX electrodes exhibit a higher gravimetric capacitance (302 F g−1 at 0.05 A g−1), better rate performance (capacitance retention of 87.4% from 0.05 to 5 A g−1), higher energy/power density (8.4 W h kg−1 at 1000 W kg−1) and longer cycle life (98.8% capacitance retained after 5000 charge/discharge cycles at 2.5 A g−1) than those of pure HPC electrodes. The novel MnOX–modified biomass–derived HPCs with efficient mass loading and outstanding rate capability are concluded to be promising electrode materials for high–performance symmetric supercapacitors.

Three-dimensional porous carbon is considered as an ideal electrode material for supercapacitors (SCs) applications owing to its good conductivity, developed pore structure, and excellent connectivity. Herein, using longan shell as precursor, 3-dimensional porous carbon with abundant and interconnected pores and moderate heteroatoms were obtained via simple carbonization and potassium hydroxide (KOH) activation treatment. The electrochemical performances of obtained 3-dimensional porous carbon were investigated as electrode materials in symmetric SCs with aqueous and solid electrolytes. The optimized material that is named after longan shell 3-dimensional porous carbon 800 (LSPC800) possesses high porosity (1.644 cm3 g&minus, 1) and N content (1.14 at %). In the three-electrode measurement, the LSPC800 displays an excellent capacitance value of 359 F g&minus, 1. Besides, the LSPC800 also achieves splendid specific capacitance (254 F g&minus, 1) in the two electrode system, while the fabricated SC employing 1 M Li2SO4 as electrolyte acquires ultrahigh power density (15930.38 W kg&minus, 1). Most importantly, LSPC800 electrodes are further applied into the SC adopting the KOH/polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) gel electrolyte, which reaches up to an outstanding capacitance of 313 F g&minus, 1 at 0.5 A g&minus, 1. In addition, for the all-solid-state SC, its rate capability at 50 A g&minus, 1 is 72.73% and retention at the 10,000th run is 93.64%. Evidently, this work is of great significance to the simple fabrication of 3-dimensional porous carbon and further opens up a way of improving the value-added utilization of biomass materials, as well as proving that the biomass porous carbons have immense potential for high-performance SCs application.

Proteome response of plants is an important process that enables them to cope with environmental stress including metal stress. In this study, the proteome of Gracilaria lemaneiformis exposed to lead was investigated. Two-dimensional gel electrophoresis analysis revealed 123 protein spots, among which 14 proteins were significantly differentially expressed and identified using MALDI-TOF MS. Two of the up-regulated proteins were identified and predicted to be involved in photosynthesis and signal transduction, while eleven down-regulated proteins were functionally grouped into five classes including photosynthesis, energy metabolism, protein metabolism, carbohydrate transport and metabolism, and antioxidation proteins. There was also an up-regulation in superoxide dismutase, peroxidase, glutathione s-transferase, and heat-shock protein 70 upon Pb exposure. Proteomic studies provide a better picture of protein networks and metabolic pathways primarily involved in intracellular detoxification and defense mechanisms.

To observe and evaluate the clinical efficacy of transcutaneous vagus nerve stimulation (taVNS) at auricular concha for primary insomnia (PI) and affective disorder.A total of 35 patients who met the diagnosis standard of PI inCompared before treatment, the PSQI was significantly decreased to (13.20±3.61) at the end of 2nd week (The taVNS could not only relieve PI symptoms, but also improve the depressive and anxiety symptoms, in addition, it may have positive long-term efficacy and safety.

Genetic studies based on single-nucleotide polymorphisms have provided valuable insights into the genetic architecture of complex diseases. However, a large fraction of heritability for most of these diseases remains unexplained, and the impact of small insertions and deletions (InDels) has been neglected. We performed a comprehensive screen on the exome sequence data of 1,326 genes using the SOAP-PopIndel method for InDels in 32,043 Chinese Han individuals and identified 29 unreported InDels within 25 susceptibility genes associated with psoriasis. Specifically, we identified 12 common, 9 low-frequency, and 8 rare InDels that explained approximately 1.29% of the heritability of psoriasis. Further analyses identified KIAA0319, RELN, NCAPG, ABO, AADACL2, LMAN1, FLG, HERC5, CCDC66, LEKR1, AFF3, ABCG2, ANXA7, SYTL2,GIPR, METTL1, and FYCO1 as unreported genes for psoriasis. In addition, identified InDels were associated with the following reported genes: IFIH1, ERAP1, ERAP2, LNPEP, UBLCP1, and STAT3; unreported independent associations for exonic InDels were found within GJB2 and ZNF816A.
