Active surveillance serves as a vital management strategy for patients diagnosed with low-risk, organ-confined prostate cancer and is aimed at reducing overtreatment, cost minimization and enhancing patients’ quality of life. However, the comprehensive implementation of active surveillance faces various challenges necessitating improvement, such as refining screening criteria, optimizing surveillance procedures, and establishing clear guidelines for active intervention. Multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (mp-MRI) has assumed an increasingly pivotal role in the context of active surveillance. It provides essential supplementary insights into the identification and characteristics of prostate cancer. mp-MRI improves the precision of risk stratification, thus enhancing patient selection and compliance. Furthermore, it facilitates continuous disease monitoring, thereby reducing the probability of missed treatment opportunities during follow-up. This review, characterized by its meticulous analysis, aims to comprehensively examine the utilization and advancements of mp-MRI in the active surveillance of prostate cancer.

ObjectiveThis study aims to examine the alterations in aberrant brain activity and network connectivity between individuals with mild and major vascular cognitive impairment (VCI).Materials and methodsA total of 114 patients with cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) were included in this study, comprising 61 individuals with mild VCI (mean age, 55.7 ± 6.9 years; male, 42.6%) and 53 cases with major VCI (mean age, 57.6 ± 5.5 years; male, 58.5%). Additionally, 53 age-, gender-, and education-matched healthy subjects were recruited as normal controls (NC) (mean age, 54.9 ± 7.9 years; male, 52.9%). All participants underwent neuropsychological assessments and magnetic resonance imaging scans. One-way analysis of variance was used to compare fractional amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation (fALFF) values among the three groups. Two-sample t-tests were conducted to assess functional connectivity matrices between different groups for each connection. Moreover, mediation analyses were performed to explore the mediating effect of aberrant brain activity on the relationship between cognitive impairment and CSVD total burden.ResultsVCI patients exhibited aberrant brain activity in regions such as the right thalamus (THA_R), right cuneus (CUN_R), left postcentral gyrus (PoCG_L), right postcentral gyrus (PoCG_R), right median cingulate, paracingulate gyri (PCG_R), and left precuneus (PCUN_L). Reduced positive functional connectivity was predominantly observed among nodes including PCUN_L, CUN_R, PoCG_L, PoCG_R, right posterior cingulate (PCG_R), and left occipital gyrus (IOG_L) in VCI patients. The aberrant baseline brain activity and disrupted brain network were more pronounced with worsening cognitive function. Increased fALFF values in THA_R, CUN_R, and PoCG_L mediated cognitive impairment in CSVD patients.ConclusionAbnormal brain activities in THA_R, CUN_R, and PoCG_L, along with their associated abnormal functional connections, play a significant role in VCI. The study revealed a progressive increase in aberrant brain activity and network connectivity with advancing stages of VCI.

AbstractContext Fructus Ligustri Lucidi (FLL), a commonly used herb of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), is the fruit of Ligustrum lucidum Ait. (Oleaceae). The ethanol extract of FLL is a potential candidate for preventing and treating postmenopausal osteoporosis (PMOP) by nourishing the liver and kidneys.Objective This study determines whether an ethanol extract of FLL has anti-osteoporotic effects in ovariectomized (OVX) mice and explores the underlying mechanism.Materials and methods The OVX model of eight-week-old C57BL/6J female mice was taken, and ovariectomy was used as PMOP. Mice were divided into five groups: sham-operated group (n = 10), OVX group (n = 10), OVX + E2 group (n = 10; 0.039 mg/kg), OVX + FLL group (n = 10; 2 g/kg) and OVX + FLL group (n = 10; 4 g/kg). Mice were treated by gavage with FLL or CMCNa once daily for 8 weeks. We harvested uteri, femur, and tibias from mice; bone mineral density (BMD) and bone microstructure were obtained by X-ray absorptiometry and micro-CT. Furthermore, the effect of FLL on the balance of osteoblast and adipocyte differentiation was investigated using bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMMSCs).Results The results indicated that FLL did not affect OVX-induced estradiol reduction. Compared with OVX mice, FLL significantly increased BMD (63.54 vs. 61.96), Conn. D (86.46 vs. 57.00), and left tibial strength (13.91 vs. 11.27), decreased Tb. Sp (0.38 vs. 0.44) and body fat content (4.19% vs. 11.24%). FLL decreased osteoclast activity and enhanced RUNX2 expression; inhibited perilipin peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARγ) expression and adipocyte differentiation from BMMSCs.Conclusions FLL prevented additional bone loss and improved bone microstructure in OVX mice by modulating bone and fat balance, suggesting that FLL might be a therapeutic agent for PMOP.

BackgroundProstate cancer invades the capsule is a key factor in selecting appropriate treatment methods. Accurate preoperative prediction of extraprostatic extension (EPE) can help achieve precise selection of treatment plans.PurposeThe aim of this study is to verify the diagnostic efficacy of tumor size, length of capsular contact (LCC), apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC), and Amide proton transfer (APT) value in predicting EPE. Additionally, the study aims to investigate the potential additional value of APT for predicting EPE.MethodThis study include 47 tumor organ confined patients (age, 64.16 ± 9.18) and 50 EPE patients (age, 61.51 ± 8.82). The difference of tumor size, LCC, ADC and APT value between groups were compared. Binary logistic regression was used to screen the EPE predictors. The receiver operator characteristic curve analysis was performed to assess the diagnostic performance of variables for predicting EPE. The diagnostic efficacy of combined models (model I: ADC+LCC+tumor size; model II: APT+LCC+tumor size; and model III: APT +ADC+LCC+tumor size) were also analyzed.ResultsAPT, ADC, tumor size and the LCC were independent predictors of EPE. The area under the curve (AUC) of APT, ADC, tumor size and the LCC were 0.752, 0.665, 0.700 and 0.756, respectively. The AUC of model I, model II, and model III were 0.803, 0.845 and 0.869, respectively. The cutoff value of APT, ADC, tumor size and the LCC were 3.65%, 0.97×10−3mm2/s, 17.30mm and 10.78mm, respectively. The sensitivity/specificity of APT, ADC, tumor size and the LCC were 76%/89.4.0%, 80%/59.6%, 54%/78.9%, 72%/66%, respectively. The sensitivity/specificity of model I, Model II and Model III were 74%/72.3%, 82%/72.5% and 84%/80.9%, respectively.Data conclusionAmide proton transfer imaging has added value for predicting EPE. The combination model of APT balanced the sensitivity and specificity.

Function approximation has gained significant attention in reinforcement learning research as it effectively addresses problems with large-scale, continuous state, and action space.Although the function approximation algorithm based on gradient descent method is one of the most widely used methods in reinforcement learning, it requires careful tuning of the step size parameter as an inappropriate value can lead to slow convergence, unstable convergence, or even divergence.To address these issues, an improvement was made around the temporal-difference (TD) algorithm based on function approximation.The weight update method was enhanced using both the least squares method and gradient descent, resulting in the proposed weights gradient descent (WGD) method.The least squares were used to calculate the weights, combining the ideas of TD and gradient descent to find the error between the weights.And this error was used to directly update the weights.By this method, the weights were updated in a new manner, effectively reducing the consumption of computing resources by the algorithm enhancing other gradient descent-based function approximation algorithms.The WGD method is widely applicable in various gradient descent-based reinforcement learning algorithms.The results show that WGD method can adjust parameters within a wider space, effectively reducing the possibility of algorithm divergence.Additionally, it achieves better performance while improving the convergence speed of the algorithm.

Abstract Objective We aim to develop a radiomics model based on 3‐dimensional (3D)‐T1WI images to discriminate amnestic mild cognitive impairment (aMCI) patients from the normal population by measuring changes in frontal white matter. Methods In this study, 126 patients with aMCI and 174 normal controls (NC) were recruited from the local community. All subjects underwent routine magnetic resonance imaging examination (including 3D‐T1WI ). Participants were randomly divided into a training set (n = 242, aMCI:102, NC:140) and a testing set (n = 58, aMCI:24, NC:34). Texture features of the frontal lobe were extracted from 3D‐T1WI images. The least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) was used to reduce feature dimensions and develop a radiomics signature model. Diagnostic performance was assessed in the training and testing sets using the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis. The area under the ROC curve (AUC), sensitivity, and specificity were also calculated. The efficacy of the radiomics model in discriminating aMCI patients from the normal population was assessed by decision curve analysis (DCA). Results A total of 108 frontal lobe texture features were extracted from 3D‐T1WI images. LASSO selected 58 radiomic features for the final model, including log‐sigma (n = 18), original (n = 8), and wavelet (n = 32) features. The performance of radiomic features extracted from 3D T1 imaging for distinguishing aMCI patients from controls was: in the training set, AUC was 1.00, and the accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity were 100%, 98%, and 100%, respectively. In the testing set, AUC was 0.82 (95% CI:0.69–0.95), and the accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity were 69%, 92%, and 55%, respectively. The DCA demonstrated that the model had favorable clinical predictive value. Conclusions Textural features of white matter in the frontal lobe showed potential for distinguishing aMCI from the normal population, which could be a surrogate protocol to aid aMCI screening in clinical setting.

Backgroud: Emerging evidence suggests an overlap in the underlying pathways contributing to both cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) and the neurodegenerative disease. Studies investigating the progression of CSVD should incorporate markers that reflect neurodegenerative lesions. Objective: We aim to investigate whether Amide proton transfer (APT) can serve as a potential marker for reflecting vascular cognitive impairment (VCI). Method: Participants were categorized into one of three groups based on their Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) scores: normal control group (age,54.9 ± 7.9; male, 52.9%), mild cognitive impairment (MCI) group (age,55.7 ± 6.9; male, 42.6%), or vascular dementia (VaD) group (age,57.6 ± 5.5, male, 58.5%). One way analysis of variance was performed to compare the demographic and APT variables between groups. Multiple logistic regression analysis wwas constructed to examine the relationship between APT values and VCI grouping. Recent advances in deep learning have enabled state-of-the-art performance in detecting medium and large-size objects. However, small object detection remains challenging primarily due to the scarcity of information. This paper proposes an end-to-end fusion network that integrates deep and hand-crafted features to address this limitation. A fusion module based on semantic context information is designed to enhance feature discrimination ability. Additionally, we introduce a kind of feature-contrast loss to incorporate prior knowledge into the learning of deep feature according to contrastive learning. Experiments on MS COCO (34.4% ${\mathrm {A}}{{\mathrm {P}}_{\mathrm {S}}}$ ) and PASCAL VOC (85.9% mAP) datasets demonstrate that our approach achieves improved detection accuracy over previous methods, especially for small objects.

Abstract Salidroside has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and hepatoprotective properties. However, its effect on hepatic ischemia–reperfusion injury (IRI), an unavoidable side effect associated with liver transplantation, remains undefined. Here, we aimed to determine whether salidroside alleviates hepatic IRI and elucidate its potential mechanisms. We used both in vivo and in vitro assays to assess the effect and mechanisms of salidroside on hepatic IRI. Hepatic IRI rat models were pretreated with salidroside (5, 10 or 20 mg/kg/day) for 7 days following liver transplantation while hypoxia/reoxygenation (H/R) model of RAW 264.7 macrophages were pretreated with salidroside (1, 10 or 50 μM). The effect of salidroside on hepatic IRI was assessed using hematoxylin–eosin staining, terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase dUTP nick-end labeling staining, qRT-PCR, immunosorbent assay and western blotting. Our in vivo assays showed that salidroside significantly reduced pathological liver damage, serum aminotransferase levels and serum levels of IL-1, IL-18 and TNF-α. Besides, salidroside reduced the expression of TLR-4/NF-κB/NLRP3 inflammatory pathway associated proteins (TLR-4, MyD88, p-IKKα, p-IKKβ, p-IKK, p-IκBα, p-P65, NLRP3, ASC, Cleaved caspase-1, IL-1β, IL-18, TNF-α and IL-6) in rats after liver transplantation. On the other hand, data from the in vitro analysis demonstrated that salidroside blocks expression of TLR-4/NF-κB/NLRP3 inflammatory pathway related proteins in the RAW264.7 cells treated with H/R. The salidroside-specific anti-inflammatory effects were partially inhibited by the TLR-4 agonist lipopolysaccharide. Taken together, our study showed that salidroside inhibits hepatic IRI following liver transplantation by modulating the TLR-4/NF-κB/NLRP3 inflammatory pathway.

Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutations are the most common oncogenic driver in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Epidermal growth factor receptor-tyrosine kinase inhibitors (EGFR-TKIs) are widely used in the treatment of lung cancer, especially in the first-line treatment of advanced NSCLC, and EGFR-TKIs monotherapy has achieved better efficacy and tolerability compared with standard chemotherapy. However, acquired resistance to EGFR-TKIs and associated adverse events pose a significant obstacle to targeted lung cancer therapy. Therefore, there is an urgent need to seek effective interventions to overcome these limitations. Natural medicines have shown potential therapeutic advantages in reversing acquired resistance to EGFR-TKIs and reducing adverse events, bringing new options and directions for EGFR-TKIs combination therapy. In this paper, we systematically demonstrated the resistance mechanism of EGFR-TKIs, the clinical strategy of each generation of EGFR-TKIs in the synergistic treatment of NSCLC, the treatment-related adverse events of EGFR-TKIs, and the potential role of traditional Chinese medicine in overcoming the resistance and adverse reactions of EGFR-TKIs. Herbs and active compounds have the potential to act synergistically through multiple pathways and multiple mechanisms of overall regulation, combined with targeted therapy, and are expected to be an innovative model for NSCLC treatment.

The CFETR multi-purpose overload robot (CMOR) is a key subsystem of the remote handling system of the China fusion engineering test reactor (CFETR). This paper first establishes the kinematic and dynamic models of CMOR and analyzes the working process in the vacuum chamber. Based on the uncertainty of rigid-flexible coupling, a CMOR adaptive robust sliding mode controller (ARSMC) is designed based on the Hamilton-Jacobi equation to enhance the robustness of the control system. In addition, to compensate the influence of non-geometric factors on position accuracy, an error compensation method is designed. Based on the matrix differentiation method, the CMOR coupling parameter errors are decoupled, and then the gridded workspace principle is used to identify the parameter errors and improve the motion control accuracy. Finally, the CMOR rigid-flexible coupling simulation system is established by ADAMS-MATLAB/Simulink to analyze the dynamic control effect of ARSMC. The simulation results show that the CMOR end position error exceeds 0.1 m for single joint motion. The average value of CMOR end position error is less than 0.025 m after compensation, and the absolute error value is reduced by 4 times, improves the dynamic control accuracy of CMOR.

Titanium is widely used as surgical bone implants due to its excellent mechanical properties, corrosion resistance, and good biocompatibility. However, due to chronic inflammation and bacterial infections caused by titanium implants, they are still at risk of failure in interfacial integration of bone implants, severely limiting their broad clinical application. In this work, chitosan gels crosslinked with glutaraldehyde were prepared and successfully loaded with silver nanoparticles (nAg) and catalase nanocapsules (n (CAT)) to achieve functionalized coating on the surface of titanium alloy steel plates. Under chronic inflammatory conditions, n (CAT) significantly reduced the expression of macrophage tumor necrosis factor (TNF-α), increased the expression of osteoblast alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and osteopontin (OPN), and enhanced osteogenesis. At the same time, nAg inhibited the growth of S. aureus and E. coli. This work provides a general approach to functional coating of titanium alloy implants and other scaffolding materials.

Background and objectiveThe pathological type of non–small cell lung cancer is considered to be an important factor affecting the treatment and prognosis. The purpose of this study was to investigate the diagnostic value of spectral parameters of dual-layer spectral detector computed tomography (DLCT) in determining efficacy to distinguish adenocarcinoma (AC) and squamous cell carcinoma (SC), and their combined diagnostic efficacy was also analyzed.MethodsThis is a single-center prospective study, and we collected 70 patients with lung SC and 127 patients with lung AC confirmed by histopathological examination. Morphological parameters, plain scan CT value, biphasic enhanced CT value, and spectral parameters were calculated. The diagnostic efficiency of morphological parameters, spectral parameters, and spectral parameters combined with morphological parameters was obtained by statistical analysis.ResultsIn univariate analysis, seven morphological CT features differed significantly between SC and AC: tumor location (distribution), lobulation, spicule, air bronchogram, vacuole sign, lung atelectasis and/or obstructive pneumonia, and vascular involvement (all p < 0.05). In the arterial phase and the venous phase, the spectral parameters of AC were higher than those of SC (AP-Zeff: 8.07 ± 0.23 vs. 7.85 ± 0.16; AP-ID: 1.41 ± 0.47 vs. 0.94 ± 0.28; AP-NID: 0.13 ± 0.04 vs. 0.09 ± 0.03; AP-λ: 3.42 ± 1.10 vs. 2.33 ± 0.96; VP-Zeff: 8.26 ± 0.23 vs. 7.96 ± 0.16; VP-ID: 1.18 ± 0.51 vs. 1.16 ± 0.30; VP-NID: 0.39 ± 0.13 vs. 0.29 ± 0.08; VP-λ: 4.42 ± 1.28 vs. 2.85 ± 0.72; p < 0.001). When conducting multivariate analysis combining CT features and DLCT parameters with the best diagnostic efficacy, the independent predictors of AC were distribution on peripheral (OR, 4.370; 95% CI, 1.485–12.859; p = 0.007), presence of air bronchogram (OR, 5.339; 95% CI, 1.729–16.484; p = 0.004), and presence of vacuole sign ( OR, 7.330; 95% CI, 1.030–52.184; p = 0.047). Receiver operating characteristic curves of the SC and AC showed that VP-λ had the best diagnostic performance, with an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.864 and sensitivity and specificity rates of 85.8% and 74.3%, respectively; the AUC was increased to 0.946 when morphological parameters were combined, and sensitivity and specificity rates were 89.8% and 87.1%, respectively.ConclusionThe quantitative parameters of the DLCT spectrum are of great value in the diagnosis of SC and AC, and the combination of morphological parameters and spectral parameters is helpful to distinguish SC from AC.

Many end-stage liver disease etiologies are attributed to robust inflammatory cell recruitment. Neutrophils play an important role in inflammatory infiltration and neutrophil phagocytosis, oxidative burst, and degranulation. It has also been suggested that neutrophils may release neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) to kill pathogens. It has been proven that neutrophil infiltration within the liver contributes to an inflammatory microenvironment and immune cell activation. Growing evidence implies that NETs are involved in the progression of numerous complications of liver transplantation, including ischemia-reperfusion injury, acute rejection, thrombosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma recurrence. NETs are discussed in this comprehensive review, focusing on their effects on liver transplantation complications. Furthermore, we discuss NETs as potential targets for liver transplantation therapy.

Response surface methodology (RSM) and Box- Behnken design (BBD) based on one-way experiments were used to optimize the extraction parameters of the lateral root polysaccharides of Aconitum carmichaelii. The extracted polysaccharides were named as refined fucose polysaccharide. The optimal conditions included a water to raw material ratio of 43, an extraction time of 2 h, and an extraction temperature of 90°C. The shape of RFP was shown by infrared spectroscopy (IR) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis. The monosaccharide composition and molecular weight of RFP was determined by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Furthermore, RFP exhibited moderate antioxidant activity by analyzing the scavenging rates of 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radical, superoxide anion radical, hydroxyl radical, and ABTS + radical. RFP exerted cytoprotective effects against hydrogen peroxide (H2O2)-induced injury in the rat renal tubular epithelial cell line rat renal tubular epithelial cells (NRK-52E) and inhibited apoptosis. In addition, researches found that RFP could alleviate cisplatin-induced acute kidney injury in mice by enhancing the levels of glutathione (GSH) and glutathione peroxidase-4 (GPX-4), decreasing the levels of malondialdehyde (MDA) and 4-hydroxynonenal (4-HNE), reducing lipid peroxidation, and thus inhibiting ferroptosis. In conclusion, this study provides a good strategy for obtaining bioactive polysaccharides from Fuzi.

Abstract Background The immune mechanism was shown to be involved in the development of adenomyosis. The aim of the current study was to evaluate the expression of the immune checkpoints B7-H2, B7-H3, B7-H4 and PD-L2 in adenomyosis and to explore the effect of mifepristone on the expression of these immune checkpoints. Methods The expression of B7-H2, B7-H3, B7-H4 and PD-L2 in normal endometria and adenomyosis patient samples treated with or without mifepristone was determined by immunohistochemistry analysis. Results In adenomyosis patient samples, the expression of B7-H2, B7-H3 and B7-H4 was increased in the eutopic and ectopic endometria compared with normal endometria, both in the proliferative and secretory phases. Moreover, the expression of B7-H2 and B7-H3 was higher in adenomyotic lesions than in the corresponding eutopic endometria, both in the proliferative and secretory phases. The expression of PD-L2 was higher in adenomyotic lesions than in normal endometria in both the proliferative and secretory phases. In the secretory phase but not the proliferative phase, the expression of B7-H4 and PD-L2 in adenomyotic lesions was significantly higher than that in the corresponding eutopic endometria. In normal endometria and eutopic endometria, the expression of B7-H4 was elevated in the proliferative phase compared with that in the secretory phase, while in the ectopic endometria, B7-H4 expression was decreased in the proliferative phase compared with the secretory phase. In addition, the expression of B7-H2, B7-H3, B7-H4 and PD-L2 was significantly decreased in adenomyosis tissues after treatment with mifepristone. Conclusions The expression of the immune checkpoint proteins B7-H2, B7-H3, B7-H4 and PD-L2 is upregulated in adenomyosis tissues and is downregulated with mifepristone treatment. The data suggest that B7 immunomodulatory molecules are involved in the pathophysiology of adenomyosis.

Neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) play important roles in hepatic ischemic reperfusion injury (IRI) and acute rejection (AR)-induced immune responses to inflammation. After liver transplantation, HMGB1, an inflammatory mediator, contributes to the development of AR. Even though studies have found that HMGB1 can promote NET formation, the correlation between NETs and HMGB1 in the development of AR following liver transplantation has not been elucidated. In this study, levels of serum NETs were significantly elevated in patients after liver transplantation. Moreover, we found that circulating levels of NETs were negatively correlated with liver function. In addition, liver transplantation and elevated extracellular HMGB1 promoted NET formation. The HMGB1/TLR-4/MAPK signaling pathway, which is initiated by HMGB1, participates in NET processes. Moreover, in the liver, Kupffer cells were found to be the main cells secreting HMGB1. NETs induced Kupffer cell M1 polarization and decreased the intracellular translocation of HMGB1 by inhibiting DNase-1. Additionally, co-treatment with TAK-242 (a TLR-4 inhibitor) and rapamycin more effectively alleviated the damaging effects of AR following liver transplantation than either drug alone.

Polycaprolactone (PCL) has been widely used as a scaffold material for tissue engineering. Reliable applications of the PCL scaffolds require overcoming their native hydrophobicity and obtaining the sustained release of signaling factors to modulate cell growth and differentiation. Here, we report a surface modification strategy for electrospun PCL nanofibers using an azide-terminated amphiphilic graft polymer. With multiple alkylation and pegylation on the side chains of poly-L-lysine, stable coating of the graft polymer on the PCL nanofibers was achieved in one step. Using the azide-alkyne “click chemistry”, we functionalized the azide-pegylated PCL nanofibers with dibenzocyclooctyne-modified nanocapsules containing growth factor, which rendered the nanofiber scaffold with satisfied cell adhesion and growth property. Moreover, by specific immobilization of pH-responsive nanocapsules containing bone morphogenetic protein 2 (BMP-2), controlled release of active BMP-2 from the PCL nanofibers was achieved within 21 days. When bone mesenchyme stem cells were cultured on this nanofiber scaffold, enhanced ossification was observed in correlation with the time-dependent release of BMP-2. The established surface modification can be extended as a generic approach to hydrophobic nanomaterials for longtime sustainable release of multiplex signaling proteins for tissue engineering.

Objectives: To evaluate whether 3D amide proton transfer weighted (APTw) imaging based on magnetization transfer analysis can be used as a novel imaging marker to distinguish amnestic mild cognitive impairment (aMCI) patients from the normal elderly population by measuring changes in APTw signal intensity in the hippocampus and amygdala.Materials and Methods: Seventy patients with aMCI and 74 age- and sex-matched healthy volunteers were recruited for routine MRI and APT imaging examinations. Magnetic transfer ratio asymmetry (MTRasym) of the amide protons (at 3.5 ppm), or APTw values, were measured in the bilateral hippocampus and amygdala on three consecutive cross-sectional APT images and were compared between the aMCI and control groups. The independent sample t-test was used to evaluate the difference in APTw values of the bilateral hippocampus and amygdala between the aMCI and control groups. Receiver operator characteristic analysis was used to assess the diagnostic performance of the APTw. The paired t-test was used to assess the difference in APTw values between the left and right hippocampus and amygdala, in both the aMCI and control groups.Results: The APTw values of the bilateral hippocampus and amygdala in the aMCI group were significantly higher than those in the control group (left hippocampus 1.01 vs. 0.77% p < 0.001; right hippocampus 1.02 vs. 0.74%, p < 0.001; left amygdala 0.98 vs. 0.70% p < 0.001; right amygdala 0.94 vs. 0.71%, p < 0.001). The APTw values of the left amygdala had the largest AUC (0.875) at diagnosis of aMCI. There was no significant difference in APTw values between the left and right hippocampus and amygdala, in either group. (aMCI group left hippocampus 1.01 vs. right hippocampus 1.02%, p = 0.652; healthy control group left hippocampus 0.77 vs. right hippocampus 0.74%, p = 0.314; aMCI group left amygdala 0.98 vs. right amygdala 0.94%, p = 0.171; healthy control group left amygdala 0.70 vs. right amygdala 0.71%, p = 0.726).Conclusion: APTw can be used as a new imaging marker to distinguish aMCI patients from the normal elderly population by indirectly reflecting the changes in protein content in the hippocampus and amygdala.

The calculation formula for bearing capacity was verified and further corrected through the current study of the influences of different parameters on the shear behavior of concrete T-beams reinforced with surface-embedded FRP. Tests were conducted on 14 beams reinforced with FRP tendons, including assessments of different concrete strength grades, longitudinal reinforcement ratios, surface characteristics, types, diameters, reinforcement modes, FRP spacings, and specimen shear span ratios. The results show that surface-embedded FRP reinforcement technology can be utilized to improve the overall stiffness and shear strength of beams, delay the development of oblique cracking, reduce the width of diagonal cracking, and improve the bite cooperation between concrete aggregates, thus improving the manifestation of reinforcement. The shear failure mechanism of reinforced concrete beams, strengthened with surface-embedded FRP, seemed to be similar to that of ordinary reinforced concrete beams. The mechanism of action was identical to that of stirrups, and the utilization factor of FRPs was determined.

The aim of the present study was to develop a novel long-acting Poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA)-based microspheres formulation of Bisdemethoxycurcum (BDMC) by emulsion-solvent evaporation method. Meanwhile, the effects of the volume ratio of the dispersed phase and continuous phase, the concentration of PLGA and PVA, the theoretical drug loading and stirring speed were investigated. The mean diameter of the microspheres was 8.5 µm and the size distribution was narrow. The encapsulation efficiency (EE) and drug loading efficiency (DLE) of BDME loaded PLGA microspheres (BDMC-PLGA-MS) was 94.18% and 8.14%, respectively. In an in vitro study of drug release, it can be concluded that the BDMC-PLGA-MS exhibited sustained and long-term release properties for 96 h. Stability studies suggested that the microspheres we prepared had a very good stability. Furthermore, the results of an in vivo study indicated that the BDMC-PLGA-MS had sustained release effect and was mainly distributed in the lung tissue, and less distribution in other tissues, which indicated that microspheres could be an effective parenteral carrier for the delivery of BDMC in lung cancer treatment.

Infection-related titanium implant failure rates remain exceedingly high in the clinic. Functional surface coating represents a very promising strategy to improve the antibacterial and bioactive properties of titanium alloy implants. Here, we describe a novel bioactive surface coating that consists of a mussel-inspired carboxymethyl chitosan hydrogel loaded with silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) to enhance the bioactive properties of the titanium alloy. The preparation of hydrogel is based on gallic acid grafted carboxymethyl chitosan (CMCS-GA) catalyzed by DMTMM (4-(4,6-dimethoxy-1,3,5-triazin-2-yl)-4-methylmorpholinium chloride). To build a firm bonding between the hydrogel and titanium alloy plate, a polydopamine layer was introduced onto the surface of the titanium alloy. With HRP/H2O2 catalysis, CMCS-GA can simply form a firm gel layer on the titanium alloy plate through the catechol groups. The surface properties of titanium alloy were characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and water contact angle. Silver nanoparticles were loaded into the gel layer by in situ reduction to enhance the antibacterial properties. In vitro antibacterial and cell viability experiments showed that the AgNPs-loaded Ti-gel possesses excellent antibacterial properties and did not affect the proliferation of rabbit mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs).

Aim: The contribution of the inflammatory mediator interleukin-17 (IL-17) in nonsmall cell lung cancer (NSCLC) malignancy has been reported in the literature. MicroRNA-181a-5p (miR-181a-5p) acts as a tumor suppressor which can regulate target gene at the posttranscriptional level. Our study aimed to investigate the interaction between IL-17 and miR-181a-5p in NSCLC. Methods: 35 patients with NSCLC and 24 COPD controls were selected and examined in our study. In vitro, H226 and H460 cell lines were exposed to different doses (20, 40, 60, and 80 ng/mL) of IL-17 to examine the effect of IL-17 on miR-181a-5p and vascular cell adhesion molecule 1 (VCAM-1) expression. MiR-181 mimic and miR-181a-5p inhibitor were transfected to explore the regulation of VCAM-1 as well as tumor cell proliferation and migration. Results: miR-181a-5p expression was downregulated, and IL-17 and VCAM-1 expression was upregulated in NSCLC tissues. Furthermore, IL-17 decreased miR-181a-5p expression but increased VCAM-1 expression in H226 and H460 cells. MiR-181 regulated VCAM-1 expression through binding to 3’-UTR sequence. MiR-181 attenuated tumor cell proliferation and migration. IL-17 modulated miR-181a-5p expression through activating NF-κB but not Stat3. Conclusion: Taken together, our data show the regulation of VCAM-1 expression by miR-181a-5p under IL-17 exposure, predicting a potential way for counteracting cancer metastasis.

Based on the geologic background and reservoir characteristics, the characteristics and controlling factors of gas and water distribution of the carbonate reservoir in the 5th member of Ordovician Majiagou Formation in Northwest Ordos Basin have been examined from macro and micro aspects using data of structure, deposition, diagenesis, paleotopography, physical property, mercury injection, well logs and core observation. The 5th member of Majiagou Formation in the study area shows very complex gas and water distribution pattern: the gas layer is distributed uniformly across the whole area in 2D horizontal map, while the water layer is scattered and concentrates in small area, appearing in discontinuous distribution; there is no gas and water interbeds in vertical direction, making it difficult to develop the gas reservoir efficiently. The gas and water distribution is controlled by paleogeomorphology and diagenesis macroscopically, and is controlled by pore-throat structure, connectivity and the transportation relation between source rock and reservoir microscopically. The gas largely concentrates in and around the ancient grooves and low hill regions in the paleokast slope where the reservoirs have good physical properties and good pore – throat connectivity, and there is no bauxite between source rock and reservoir, making it easy for gas to charge and accumulate. Ag9(SiO4)2NO3 was prepared by a reactive flux method. The structures, morphologies, and light absorption properties were investigated. Owing to the polar crystal structure, an internal electric field can be formed inside the material, which can facilitate the photogenerated charge separation during the photocatalytic process. Based on both the wide light absorption spectra and high charge separation efficiency originated from the polarized internal electric field, Ag9(SiO4)2NO3 exhibit higher efficiency over Ag3PO4 during the degradation of organic dyes under visible light irradiation, which is expected to be a potential material for solar energy harvest and conversion.

By means of infinite product of uniformly distributed probability spaces of cardinal , the concept of -validity degrees and validity degree vectors of formulae in two-valued predicate logic are introduced. It is proved that the validity degree vectors of formulae can preserve the logical relation between formulae. Moreover, a consistency theorem is obtained which says that the -validity degree () of the quantifierfree first-order formula without any repeated predicate symbols or terms is independent of the natural number , and is a constant equal to the validity degree () of the corresponding proposition 0 in classical propositional logic.

Effects of context on the perception of, and incidental memory for, real-world objects have predominantly been investigated in younger individuals, under conditions involving a single static viewpoint. We examined the effects of prior object context and object familiarity on both older and younger adults' incidental memory for real objects encountered while they traversed a conference room. Recognition memory for context-typical and context-atypical objects was compared with a third group of unfamiliar objects that were not readily named and that had no strongly associated context. Both older and younger adults demonstrated a typicality effect, showing significantly lower 2-alternative-forced-choice recognition of context-typical than context-atypical objects; for these objects, the recognition of older adults either significantly exceeded, or numerically surpassed, that of younger adults. Testing-awareness elevated recognition but did not interact with age or with object type. Older adults showed significantly higher recognition for context-atypical objects than for unfamiliar objects that had no prior strongly associated context. The observation of a typicality effect in both age groups is consistent with preserved semantic schemata processing in aging. The incidental recognition advantage of older over younger adults for the context-typical and context-atypical objects may reflect aging-related differences in goal-related processing, with older adults under comparatively more novel circumstances being more likely to direct their attention to the external environment, or age-related differences in top-down effortful distraction regulation, with older individuals' attention more readily captured by salient objects in the environment. Older adults' reduced recognition of unfamiliar objects compared to context-atypical objects may reflect possible age differences in contextually driven expectancy violations. The latter finding underscores the theoretical and methodological value of including a third type of objects--that are comparatively neutral with respect to their contextual associations--to help differentiate between contextual integration effects (for schema-consistent objects) and expectancy violations (for schema-inconsistent objects).

The aim of this paper is to further develop the congruence theory on lattice implication algebras. Firstly, we introduce the notions of vague similarity relations based on vague relations and vague congruence relations. Secondly, the equivalent characterizations of vague congruence relations are investigated. Thirdly, the relation between the set of vague filters and the set of vague congruences is studied. Finally, we construct a new lattice implication algebra induced by a vague congruence, and the homomorphism theorem is given.

This paper investigates the adaptive stabilization problem for a class of stochastic nonholonomic systems with strong drifts. By using input-state-scaling technique, backstepping recursive approach, and a parameter separation technique, we design an adaptive state feedback controller. Based on the switching strategy to eliminate the phenomenon of uncontrollability, the proposed controller can guarantee that the states of closed-loop system are global bounded in probability.

Undoped and nitrogen-doped Bi12TiO20 materials were synthesized by urea addition sol-gel method. By adding urea, undoped, and N-doped gel-type precursors were synthesized by low-temperature dehydrolyzation. Nitrogen-doped and undoped nanocrystalline Bi12TiO20 were prepared by annealing at 600∘C for 30 minutes. From UV-Vis absorption and diffuse reflection spectrum, the absorbing band shifted from 420 to 500 nm by nitrogen doping. The bonds of Ti–N and N–O were identified by XPS spectra from the prepared materials, and the enhancement of visible light absorption was attributed to nitrogen's substitution of oxygen. Photocatalytic properties of prepared materials were characterized by the decomposition of Rhodamine B illuminated by whole spectra of 300 W Xe light. The photocatalyst Bi12TiO20−yNy (y=0.03) with N/(N+O) mole ratio about 3% shows better performance than that of heavily doped Bi12TiO20−zNz (z=0.06), undoped Bi12TiO20, and light-doped Bi12TiO20−xNx (x=0.01) photocatalysts due to its better crystalline morphology.

One-dimensional composite - nanowires were successfully fabricated by a simple microwave-assistant hydrothermal method. The successful fabrication of one-dimensional - nanowires can only be realized at pH value range of 1–5 of the starting solution. The fabricated nanowires were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), UV-visible diffuse reflectance spectra (UV-Vis DRS), and photoluminescence (PL), respectively. The diameter of the nanowires varies from 30 to 100 nm; the length is a few micrometers. Methylene blue (MB) solutions were used to evaluate the visible light photocatalytic activities of the fabricated samples. Compared with , the fabricated - nanowires show enhanced efficiency in oxidization of MB under visible light.
