Abstract Aims Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a common complication in snoring patients, especially in patients with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSA). Triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index was a simple indicator of metabolic status and a surrogate marker of insulin resistance. This study aimed to explore the relationship between NAFLD and TyG index in snoring patients. Methods A retrospective study was conducted. The successive snoring patients enrolled in the Sleep Center of the First Affiliated Hospital of Fujian Medical University and had abdominal ultrasonography were included. The clinical characteristics of patients in different quartile TyG groups were compared. The relationship of the TyG index and NAFLD were valued via logistic regression models and restricted cubic spline analysis. The value of TyG index in predicting NAFLD was determined by receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC curve). Results A total of 463 NAFLD cases were found among the 654 snoring patients. TyG index was a risk factor of NAFLD in snoring patients (OR = 2.38, 95% CI = 1.71–3.36). The risk of NAFLD was much higher in patients with the highest quartile of TyG index (OR = 5.12, 95% CI = 2.85–9.22), compared with the lowest quartile group. Abstract Objective To analyze the efficacy and adverse effects of anti‐PD‐1 immune checkpoint inhibitors aimed at nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). Methods During the first stage of the study, using 40 patients with stage III/IVa NPC treated with anti‐PD‐1 immune checkpoint inhibitors in combination with chemoradiotherapy as a first‐line treatment (observation group) and 70 patients with NPC treated with chemoradiotherapy alone (control group). In the second stage of the study, 88 patients with NPC treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors were grouped according to the number of lines of immunotherapy, the number of times, and the types of application. Results Observation of the short‐term effects in the first stage indicated that the objective response rate (ORR) of the observation group and the control group against primary foci of NPC was 75.0% versus 40.0%; the mortality rate of the observation group was much lower than that of the control group. Background Sepsis-associated acute kidney injury (S-AKI) is a critical illness and is often associated with high morbidity and mortality rates. The soluble urokinase-type plasminogen activator receptor (suPAR) is an important immune mediator and is involved in kidney injury. However, its diagnostic value in S-AKI patients remains unclear. Therefore, we assessed the early predictive value of suPAR for S-AKI patients.Methods We prospectively enrolled adult patients, immediately after fulfilling the sepsis-3 criteria. Plasma suPAR levels at 0-, 12-, 24-, and 48-h post-sepsis diagnosis were measured. S-AKI development was the primary outcome. S-AKI risk factors were analyzed using logistic regression, and the value of plasma suPAR for early S-AKI diagnosis was assessed using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves.Results Of 179 sepsis patients, 63 (35.2%) developed AKI during hospitalization. Abstract In this study, a flexible wheelset was added to a rigid-flexible coupled vehicle dynamics model, in which the axle box bearings are accurately modeled. The measured wheel’s polygon wear profile and Wuhan-Guangzhou track spectrum are used in the model to define the wheel tread and track irregularity, respectively. We conducted a field test on the Wuhan-Guangzhou railway line to validate the model. Then, we investigate how the dynamic properties of the axle box bearing are impacted by the wheelset flexibility and polygonal wear of wheel. We found that the polygonal wheel with a rigid wheelset causes high-frequency vibration in wheelset and axle box, and increases the axle box bearing’s internal contact force. Additionally, the flexible wheelset with a normal wheel tread can alleviate the wheel/rail impact and reduce the axle box’s vertical vibration as well as the axle box bearing’s internal contact force. When the vehicle is running at v = 300 km/h, the excitation frequency caused by the wheel's 20th-order polygon is 576.5 Hz, and the flexible wheelset's 20th-order modal frequency is 577 Hz. The two frequencies are similar, when considering the polygonal wheel and flexible wheelset simultaneously, the wheelset will resonate. And the resonate of wheelset will increase the local deformation of the axle end and deteriorate the bearing operating environment, causing a significant increase in the bearing contact force. Finally, the axle box bearing’s dynamic characteristics are summarized when vehicle velocity varies from 50 to 350 km/h and wheel polygon wear amplitude ranges from 0.01 to 0.05 mm.

In this study, an optimized composite was prepared based on chemically modified corn straw, chitosan, and poly(lactic acid) using Response Surface Methodology (RSM). The composite was produced by screw extruding and hot pressing. The Box Behnken Design (BBD) software was used to design the test to optimize the composite composition. The optimum ratio of 3 factors, e.g. chemically modified corn straw (0.10 to 0.40 g), chitosan (0.25 to 0.75 g), and poly(lactic acid) (2.00 to 3.00 g) on the response value (bending strength) of the composite was investigated. RSM-BBD provided the optimum combination of composites. The novel composite prepared under the optimized factors was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, mechanical testing, water absorption tests, contact angle tests, and scanning electron microscopy. The results showed that the mechanical strength, e.g., bending strength, impact strength, and tensile strength of chemically modified corn straw based composite were 21.6 MPa, 4.43 kJ/m2, and 20.0 MPa, respectively, which increased by 23.5%, 13.9%, and 18.7% compared to native corn straw based composite. Improved mechanical strength and hydrophobicity for chemically modified corn straw/chitosan/poly(lactic acid) demonstrated that chemically modified biomass fibers and bio-based degradable polymers have the potential to produce environmentally friendly composites.

A new class of bio-composites was developed by utilizing four kinds of lignocellulosic biomass fiber (bagasse, bamboo, rice husk, and rice straw) as filling fibers. Poly-β-hydroxybutyrate (PHB) and poly(butylene succinate) (PBS) in a mixture ratio of 7:3 were used as matrix materials with hot-press molding. The performance of the resulting composites was evaluated by compositional analyses, mechanical analysis, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, thermogravimetry, and morphological analysis. The interfacial adhesion, thermal stability, and comprehensive mechanical properties of the alkali treated bamboo/PHB/PBS composite were highest among the four bio-composites. The bending strength, tensile strength, and impact strength for alkali treated bamboo/PHB/PBS composite was 19.82 MPa, 12.97 MPa, and 4.30 kJ/m2, respectively. The thermal stability for NaOH modified bamboo/PHB/PBS composite was slightly superior to the other three composites, with the initial pyrolysis temperature of 248 °C, moderate pyrolysis speed, and the amount of pyrolysis residue (5.81%). The results showed the suitability of biomass fiber and biodegradable polymer for producing environmentally friendly composite materials.

Alkali-treated bagasse fiber was used as a process variable for optimization of the properties of polybutylene succinate/poly(lactic acid)-based biocomposites using Box-Behnken design (BBD) and response surface methodology (RSM). The optimum conditions for three factors, i.e., NaOH-treated bagasse fiber (0.55 to 1.65 g), polybutylene succinate (1.1 to 2.3 g), and poly(lactic acid) (2.2 to 3.4 g) on the bending strength of biocomposite were investigated. The optimum combination was 0.91 g of NaOH-treated bagasse fiber, 1.14 g of polybutylene succinate, and 3.10 g of poly(lactic acid). The bending strength for NaOH-treated bagasse fiber/polybutylene succinate/ poly(lactic acid) composite was 27.0 MPa, which was 26.0% higher than native bagasse fiber-based composite. The composites were also characterized by thermogravimetric analysis, mechanical testing, Fourier transform infrared, scanning electron microscopy, water absorption, and contact angle tests. Results demonstrated that the bending strength, impact strength, and tensile strength of alkali treated bagasse fiber-based biocomposite increased by 26.0%, 15.5%, and 23.3%, separately, compared with native bagasse-based composite after sequential homogenization, compounding, and hot pressing. The hydrophobicity for alkali-treated bagasse fiber/PBS/PLA was also improved. Thus, NaOH-treated biomass materials/biodegradable polymer was judged to be suitable for preparing green composite materials.

Abstract Exosomes, membrane vesicles released extracellularly from cells, contain nucleic acids, proteins, lipids and other components, allowing the transfer of material information between cells. Recent studies reported the role of exosomes in pathogenic microbial infection and host immune mechanisms. Brucella‐invasive bodies can survive in host cells for a long time and cause chronic infection, which causes tissue damage. Whether exosomes are involved in host anti‐Brucella congenital immune responses has not been reported. Here, we extracted and identified exosomes secreted by Brucella melitensis M5 (Exo‐M5)‐infected macrophages, and performed in vivo and in vitro studies to examine the effects of exosomes carrying antigen on the polarization of macrophages and immune activation. Exo‐M5 promoted the polarization of M1 macrophages, which induced the significant secretion of M1 cytokines (tumour necrosis factor‐α and interferon‐γ) through NF‐κB signalling pathways and inhibited the secretion of M2 cytokines (IL‐10), thereby inhibiting the intracellular survival of Brucella. Exo‐M5 activated innate immunity and promoted the release of IgG2a antibodies that protected mice from Brucella infection and reduced the parasitaemia of Brucella in the spleen. Furthermore, Exo‐M5 contained Brucella antigen components, including Omp31 and OmpA. These results demonstrated that exosomes have an important role in immune responses against Brucella, which might help elucidate the mechanisms of host immunity against Brucella infection and aid the search for Brucella biomarkers and the development of new vaccine candidates.

Objective(s): Existing Brucella vaccines are attenuated and can cause vaccine-associated brucellosis; and these safety concerns have affected their application. Although subunit vaccines have the advantages of safety, efficacy, low cost, and rapid production, they are usually poorly immunogenic and insufficient to trigger persistent immunity. Therefore, we added layered double hydroxide (LDH) as an adjuvant to Brucella subunit vaccine formulations to enhance the immune response to the antigen.Materials and Methods: LDH and Freund’s adjuvant were combined with Brucella outer-membrane vesicles (OMVs) and OMV-associated proteins to form a subunit vaccine, respectively. The immunogenicity of LDH as an adjuvant was assessed in BALB/c mice. We examined levels of immunoglobulin G, G1, and G2a (IgG, IgG1, and IgG2a) antibodies (aBs); percentages of Cluster of Differentiation 4-positive (CD4+) and CD8+ T cells in peripheral-blood lymphocytes; and secretion of cytokines in mouse spleen lymphocytes. Finally, splenic index and splenic bacterial load were assessed via Brucella challenge experiments on mice.Results: The LDH subunit vaccine also produced high levels of specific aBs in mice compared with Freund’s adjuvant subunit vaccine and induced mainly T-helper 1 cell (Th1)-type immune responses. In addition, mice in the LDH subunit vaccine group had significantly lower bacterial loads in their spleens than those in the Freund’s adjuvant subunit vaccine group, and the LDH-OMV vaccine offered a higher level of protection against Brucella attack.Conclusion: LDH as an adjuvant-paired vaccine provided a high level of protection against Brucella infection.

The stability of a grid-tied inverter system will be compromised in weak grid conditions. In order to address this problem, researchers have proposed using a power electronics transformer (PET) to connect inverters and the grid. By adjusting the controller parameters or control strategy, the output impedance of the PET low voltage (LV) converter can be varied to improve the system stability. This paper establishes impedance models of the PET-based grid-tied inverter system and evaluates the stability of the system using the generalized Nyquist criterion. The impact of the variety of control parameters on the system stability is then analyzed. To improve the stability of the system, two stabilized control strategies, namely virtual impedance and digital filter-based methods are proposed. Finally, the effectiveness of these strategies is evaluated through simulations and experiments.

Purpose: There is growing evidence that genetic factors can influence human athletic performance. In many sports performances, excellent coordination and agility are the keys to mastery. However, few studies have been devoted to identifying genetic influences on athletic performance. Methods: We generated a derived measure of coordination and agility from the data of hexagonal jumps and T-runs and conducted genome-wide association and meta-analysis studies focused on coordination and agility. Results: The phenotypic correlation and genetic covariance analysis indicated that hexagonal jumps and T-runs were possibly influenced by the same set of genetic factors (R = 0.27, genetic covariance = 0.59). Public health problems caused by rapid urbanization have attracted increasing amounts of attention. Existing studies show that improving the frequency and duration of physical activity among urban residents can effectively reduce their disease risk. A community greenway, as a green space for public activity directly serving community residents, is one of the best spatial place for bringing health benefits to people. Although the scale and scope of greenway construction have been increasing in recent years, the utilization rate of some greenways is not high for various reasons, restricting the extent to which people engage in healthy physical activities in greenway spaces. In this study, the greenway of Nancheng Community in Wenjiang District, Chengdu city, China was selected as the object of study, and structural equation modeling was conducted to explore the objective environmental factors and individual characteristics acting as barriers to use of the community greenway by the population for physical activity. The results show that user experience, the greenway landscape, and safety and accessibility are important factors that restrict people’s willingness engage in physical activity in the community greenway environment. The results of this study provide a direction for further consideration of ways to enhance people’s willingness to make use of greenways for physical activity, and further provide a theoretical basis for the healthy design and transformation of community greenway spaces.

Abstract Background To explore the changes in blood supply and structure around the optic nerve head (ONH) in thyroid-associated ophthalmopathy (TAO) patients with suspected dysthyroid optic neuropathy (DON). Methods TAO patients [19 with DON; 24 non-DON (NDON); 20 with equivocal DON (EDON)], and 34 control subjects were examined. Optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) was used to obtain peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer (p-RNFL) and vessel density parameters, including the ONH whole image vessel density (ONH-wiVD) and the radial peripapillary capillary vessel density (RPC-VD) in early DON. Antimicrobial resistance poses a significant threat to public health and social development worldwide. This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) in treating multidrug-resistant bacterial infections. Eco-friendly spherical AgNPs were synthesized using rutin at room temperature. The biocompatibility of both polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) and mouse serum (MS)-stabilized AgNPs was evaluated at 20 μg/mL and showed a similar distribution in mice. However, only MS-AgNPs significantly protected mice from sepsis caused by the multidrug-resistant Escherichia coli (E. coli) CQ10 strain (p = 0.039). The data revealed that MS-AgNPs facilitated the elimination of Escherichia coli (E. coli) in the blood and the spleen, and the mice experienced only a mild inflammatory response, as interleukin-6, tumor necrosis factor-α, chemokine KC, and C-reactive protein levels were significantly lower than those in the control group. The results suggest that the plasma protein corona strengthens the antibacterial effect of AgNPs in vivo and may be a potential strategy for combating antimicrobial resistance.

BackgroundThe association between dietary selenium intake and arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and osteoarthritis (OA) is inconsistent in previous studies and remain unclear. To investigate their relationship, this study was performed.MethodsData from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2003–2016) were downloaded and further analyzed. Dietary Se intake was classified according to quartiles with quartile 1 (Q1) having the lowest intake and quartile 4 (Q4) having the highest intake. Weighted logistic regression was used to investigate the association between dietary selenium intake and arthritis, RA, and OA. Subgroup analyses were performed to verify the findings. To further examine the non-linear relationship between dietary selenium intake and OA, restricted cubic spline (RCS) was adopted.ResultsIn the crude model, the highest level of dietary selenium intake was siginificantly associated with decreased risks of arthritis (OR: 0.40, 95% CI: 0.37, 0.44) and rheumatoid arthritis (OR: 0.47, 95% CI: 0.40, 0.54), respectively. In the fully adjusted model, dietary selenium intake was not associated with risk of arthritis and RA (all P > 0.05). Conversely, the risk of OA was noted for participants with higher selenium intake (odds ratio of quartile 4 = 1.33, 95% CI = 1.07–1.65, P < 0.05). In the subgroup analyses, participants with diabetes had a higher risk of OA when ingested high selenium levels than those without diabetes (P < 0.001). The results of RCS showed that significant overall trends were found between dietary selenium intake and osteoarthritis (P for overall < 0.05). However, non-linear association was not detected in this association (P for non-linear > 0.05).ConclusionUsing data from NHANES, this study discloses that high dietary selenium intake might be associated with risk of OA. However, the generalization of conclusion needs further examination because of the limitation of dietary questionnaire survey.

Purpose: To assess the alteration in the macular microvascular in type 2 diabetic patients with peripheral neuropathy (DPN) and without peripheral neuropathy (NDPN) by optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) and explore the correlation between retinal microvascular abnormalities and DPN disease.Methods: Twenty-seven healthy controls (42 eyes), 36 NDPN patients (62 eyes), and 27 DPN patients (40 eyes) were included. OCTA was used to image the macula in the superficial vascular complex (SVC) and deep vascular complex (DVC). In addition, a state-of-the-art deep learning method was employed to quantify the microvasculature of the two capillary plexuses in all participants using vascular length density (VLD).Results: Compared with the healthy control group, the average VLD values of patients with DPN in SVC (p = 0.010) and DVC (p = 0.011) were significantly lower. Compared with NDPN, DPN patients showed significantly reduced VLD values in the SVC (p = 0.006) and DVC (p = 0.001). Also, DPN patients showed lower VLD values (p < 0.05) in the nasal, superior, temporal and inferior sectors of the inner ring of the SVC when compared with controls; VLD values in NDPN patients were lower in the nasal section of the inner ring of SVC (p < 0.05) compared with healthy controls. VLD values in the DVC (AUC = 0.736, p < 0.001) of the DPN group showed a higher ability to discriminate microvascular damage when compared with NDPN.Conclusion: OCTA based on deep learning could be potentially used in clinical practice as a new indicator in the early diagnosis of DM with and without DPN.

Employees' behaviors, as well as the employees' pro-environmental behaviors (PEB), affect the company in many dimensions. Although green innovation performance (GIP) has become an important measurement of a corporate's green development, research investigating PEB from the employees' perspective remains scarce, especially in emerging markets. Therefore, in this study, we developed an original framework to explore the effects of employees' PEB on corporate GIP and examined the underlying mechanism by conducting a survey in China. The results of the empirical analysis showed that employees' PEB increases corporate GIP by positively influencing green organizational identity (GOI). In addition, we also proved how leaders' PEB positively influences GIP, whereas innovation resistance (both technology resistance and resource resistance) has a negative effect on GIP. This study attempted to contribute to theoretical research and practical decision-making in the field of green organizational behavior.

A good residential courtyard space not only brings people a psychological feeling of emotional pleasure but also attracts people to actively engage in more physical activities, which is of great significance to improving people's physical and mental health. Green vegetation and fitness facilities as the most preferred landscape elements in residential courtyard spaces and their effects on people's emotional health have not been further investigated. In this research, a virtual experiment was constructed in a residential courtyard space in Chengdu City, China, and electrodermal sensors were used to measure the real-time emotional changes of people in different virtual scenarios to analyze the effects of two landscape elements, green vegetation and fitness facilities, on people's emotional health, and the differences of such effects among different genders and ages. The results confirm that the combination of virtual reality technology and wearable physiological sensor measurement technology could effectively identify health-promoting landscape elements in urban environments; In residential courtyard spaces, green vegetation is more emotionally healthy than fitness facilities, and fitness facilities have better emotional health benefits for men and people over 30 years of age. The results of the study provide a quantitative basis for the healthier design and transformation of residential courtyard spaces for both green vegetation and fitness facilities.

Digital twin (DT) is an emerging technology that enables sophisticated interaction between physical objects and their virtual replicas. Although DT has recently gained significant attraction in both industry and academia, there is no systematic understanding of DT from its development history to its different concepts and applications in disparate disciplines. The majority of DT literature focuses on the conceptual development of DT frameworks for a specific implementation area. Hence, this paper provides a state-of-the-art review of DT history, different definitions and models, and six types of key enabling technologies. The review also provides a comprehensive survey of DT applications from two perspectives: (1) applications in four product-lifecycle phases, i.e. product design, manufacturing, operation and maintenance, and recycling and (2) applications in four categorized engineering fields, including aerospace engineering, tunneling and underground engineering, wind engineering and Internet of things (IoT) applications. DT frameworks, characteristic components, key technologies and specific applications are extracted for each DT category in this paper. A comprehensive survey of the DT references reveals the following findings: (1) The majority of existing DT models only involve one-way data transfer from physical entities to virtual models and (2) There is a lack of consideration of the environmental coupling, which results in the inaccurate representation of the virtual components in existing DT models. Thus, this paper highlights the role of environmental factor in DT enabling technologies and in categorized engineering applications. In addition, the review discusses the key challenges and provides future work for constructing DTs of complex engineering systems.

Brucellosis, caused by Brucella spp., is one of the most widespread bacterial zoonoses worldwide. Vaccination is still considered the best way to control brucellosis. An investigation into the differential proteome expression patterns of wild and vaccine strains may help researchers and clinicians differentiate between the strains to diagnose and better understand the mechanism(s) underlying differences in virulence. In the present study, a mass spectrometry-based, label-free relative quantitative proteomics approach was used to investigate the proteins expressed by the wild strain, B. melitensis biovar 3 and compare it with those expressed by B. melitensis M5-90. The higher level of virulence for B. melitensis biovar 3 compared to B. melitensis M5-90 was validated in vitro and in vivo. A total of 2133 proteins, encompassing 68% of the theoretical proteome, were identified and quantified by proteomic analysis, resulting in broad coverage of the B. melitensis proteome. A total of 147 proteins were identified as differentially expressed (DE) between these two strains. In addition, 9 proteins and 30 proteins were identified as unique to B. melitensis M5-90 and B. melitensis biovar 3, respectively. Pathway analysis revealed that the majority of the DE proteins were involved in iron uptake, quorum sensing, pyrimidine metabolism, glycine betaine biosynthetic and metabolic processes, thiamine-containing compound metabolism and ABC transporters. The expression of BtpA and VjbR proteins (two well-known virulence factors) in B. melitensis biovar 3 was 8-fold and 2-fold higher than in B. melitensis M5-90. In summary, our results identified many unique proteins that could be selected as candidate markers for differentiating vaccinated animals from animals with wild-type infections. BtpA and VjbR proteins might be responsible for the residual virulence of B. melitensis M5-90, while ABC transporters and thiamine metabolism associated proteins may be newly identified Brucella virulence factors. All of the identified DE proteins provide valuable information for the development of vaccines and the discovery of novel therapeutic targets.

As the traditional generation is gradually replaced by inverter-based resources, a lack of rotational inertia is now a common issue of modern power systems, which leads to an increasingly larger rate of change of frequency (RoCoF) following contingencies and may result in frequency collapse. As a crucial index of the frequency security and stability of power systems, the accurate estimation of the RoCoF can be a foundation for the development of advanced operations and control techniques of the future power system. This paper firstly analyzes the role of the RoCoF in typical blackouts occurring in recent years and discusses the physical and numerical nature of the RoCoF; then, by introducing the frequency spatial distribution of the power system, the paper discusses the concept of the “center” RoCoF that can present the frequency security and stability of the entire system. The estimation and prediction techniques of the maximal power system RoCoF following a contingency and the existing real-time tracking techniques of the power system RoCoF are comprehensively reviewed. Finally, the open questions and related research topics of the RoCoF estimation are discussed.

Abstract Background This case report describes the clinical process of a shepherd who suffered brucellosis-related endocarditis (BE) and spondylitis (BS) and was infected with Brucella melitensis biovar 3 (B. melitensis biovar 3). Case presentation A 55-year-old male patient was admitted to The First Affiliated Hospital of Shihezi University on October 11, 2018, due to over 3 months of intermittent fever, back pain, and heart trouble. The Rose Bengal Plate test was positive, the standard agglutination test titer for brucellosis was 1/800, and the blood culture was positive for B. melitensis biovar 3. Three instances of transthoracic echocardiography examination at days 1, 25, and 376 after admission to the hospital and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT) checks at days 5 and 38 revealed that the size of the vegetation on the posterior leaflet of the mitral valve increased from 0.7 × 1.4 cm to 1.2 × 1.5 cm and that the left atrium and ventricle were enlarged. The MRI and CT results showed hyperplasia of the second and third vertebra, a cold abscess formed on both sides of the psoas major muscles, and the vertebra hyperplasia became aggravated at a later time point. The patient’s situation deteriorated, and heart failure was discovered on October 22, 2019. At the moment of submission of this manuscript, the patient remains in bed at home because of severe debility caused by brucellosis. Conclusions This is the first reported case of endocarditis combined with spondylitis caused by B. melitensis biovar 3 in a shepherd. Brucellosis infection can cause work-power losses because of misdiagnosis or a lack of proper treatment. Early diagnosis and treatment are essential for a successful outcome.

Inconsistency exists in extant research on the relation of channel dependence, the relation of channel power, and channel satisfaction. This study, taking Sinopec as the research object, explores the relation between channel dependence, the use of channel power, and channel satisfaction. The results reveal that dependence symmetry plays a moderating role in the relation between channel dependence and the use of coercive power. Specifically, with the increase of dependence symmetry, the influence of channel dependence on the use of coercive power becomes weaker. The authors also find that the use of coercive power is negatively related with the dealer’s channel satisfaction. However, the relation strength is weaker than related studies in Western cultural context.

The purpose of this study is to provide sustainable growth strategies and practical methods to realize the sustainable development of International Chinese language education along the Belt and Road Countries in the Post-Epidemic era. This article consists of a SWOT (Strength, Weakness, Opportunity, Threat) analysis of developing International Chinese language education in Belt and Road Countries. and in-depth interviews with experts in International Chinese language education in China. The Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) is adopted to the finalized and quantified SWOT matrix to incorporate experts’ ideas.The result showed that the total strength and total opportunity of International Chinese language education in Belt and Road Countries are much greater than that of total weakness and total threat, which indicates that the opportunities outweigh threats, and advantage outweigh disadvantage. Therefore, the growth-oriented strategy shall be applied to spur the sustainable development of Belt and Road Countries’ International Chinese language education. In addition, the setbacks should also be taken into serious consideration in order to overcome the weakness and the threat.

Canine adenovirus type 1 (CAdV-1) is the etiologic agent of fox encephalitis. As with most viral agents, the best method of prevention is vaccination. In this study, the CAdV-1 strain F1301 strain was used to construct a new type 1 canine adenovirus inactivated vaccine candidate, and its safety and immunogenicity were evaluated in silver foxes. Next, animals were challenged and survival rates of animals vaccinated with either the commercially available or the current candidate vaccine were examined. The results confirmed that the inactivated CAdV-1 vaccine prepared in this study can effectively protect against challenge with virulent CAdV-1 in silver foxes, and the safety profile was improved relative to that of the commercial vaccine. This study confirmed that the fox CAdV-1 F1301 strain can be used as a platform for an inactivated CAdV-1 vaccine.

Housing market occupies a large part of the wealth of the whole society in most countries, and real estate tax plays an important role for the government to maintain sustainable development for the economy. As consumption being a major issue nowadays, in this paper, we want to find out (1) whether real estate taxes affect the house price in China and whether the affects vary among different tax types? (2) whether there exists wealth effect in China housing market? That is, whether the change in house wealth (price) affects the consumption? (3) whether and how do real estate taxes affect wealth effect? We set up the empirical model by using the GMM method on panel data from 2002 to 2016 to explore the relations among real estate tax, housing price, and wealth effect. We considered the influence of four different types of real estate tax on the housing price and found the results are mixed. Besides, there is a significantly negative wealth effect on China housing market. Finally, house price plays a mediator role in the effect of the real estate tax on the consumption.

We isolated Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) from brain samples of 2 seals with lethal encephalitis at Weihai Aquarium, Weihai, China, in 2017. We confirmed our findings by immunohistochemical staining and electron microscopy. Phylogenetic analysis showed this virus was genotype I. Our findings suggest that JEV might disseminate though infected zoo animals.

Strong correlation effects in metals lead to unconventional emergent behavior that depends on the nature of interactions at the microscopic scale. Deng et al. identify distinct signatures of the so-called Mott and Hund regimes, which may guide the theoretical understanding of correlated materials.

With the successful launch of China’s GF series satellites, it is more important to study the image data quality, the adaptability of processing method and information extraction method. The panchromatic and multi-spectral data which is based on the GF-2 images data of Chinese sub-meter high-resolution remote sensing satellite is fused by PCA, Pansharp, Gram-Schmidt and NNDiffuse fusion. Then, the quality of the fusion images were evaluated subjectively and objectively. In order to evaluate the applicability of different classification algorithms to the classification, the object-oriented classification algorithm which is based on machine learning algorithm, such as KNN, SVM and Random Trees were used to classify the different GF-2 fusion images. The results showed that: (1) The best visual effect of GF-2 fusion image was the Pansharp fusion image; The quantitative evaluation results showed that the brightness and information retention of Gram-Schmidt fusion image was the best，while the Pansharp fusion image had the highest correlation with the original multi-spectral image; the NNDiffuse fusion image had the highest clarity, and the PCA fusion image quantitative evaluation effect was the worst; (2) According to the applicability analysis of the fusion images based on different classification algorithms with features information extraction, it could be seen that the NNDiffuse fusion method was used for the fusion of GF-2 image data, and the classification of the fusion images was more suitable by using KNN or Random Trees classification algorithm.

Exosomes are small extracellular vesicles that are released from cells and that function in intercellular communication. Recently, interferon-inducible transmembrane protein 3 (IFITM3) has been identified as a highly effective anti-intracellular pathogen protein that can inhibit the invasion of a wide range of pathogenic microorganisms. However, whether Brucella infection induces secretion of exosomes and whether these exosomes contain IFITM3 protein remain unknown. Here, we focused on the immune function of extracellular IFITM3 protein in the process of Brucella infection. This study is the first to show that Brucella melitensis strain M5 (Brucella M5) can stimulate macrophages to secrete large amounts of exosomes. Most importantly, we identified exosomes from Brucella M5-infected cells that were rich in molecules of IFITM3, and these exosomes could transmit the IFITM3 from one cell to another, thereby effectively inhibiting the intracellular survival of Brucella. Moreover, immunization with exosomes carrying IFITM3 decreased mouse spleen tissue damage and spleen colony forming unit (CFU), leading to the establishment of an anti-Brucella state in mice. In conclusion, our findings provide new insights into the anti-Brucella mechanism of IFITM3-containg exosomes, thus providing a theoretical foundation for systematic elaboration of the mechanisms of Brucella infection and host immunity. The results provide new ideas for the development of candidate vaccines for Brucella.

Cerium Ce(III) is one of the major pollutants contained in wastewater generated during Ce(III) mining. However, the effect(s) of Ce(III) on the functional genera responsible for removing nitrogen biologically from wastewater has not been studied and reported. In this study, the effects of Ce(III) on aspects of partial-nitritation-(PN) process including ammonia oxidation rate (AOR), process kinetics, and microbial activities were investigated. It was found that the effect of dosing Ce(III) in the PN system correlated strongly with the AOR. Compared to the control, batch assays dosed with 5 mg/L Ce(III) showed elevated PN efficiency of about 121%, an indication that maximum biological response was feasible upon Ce(III) dose. It was also found that, PN performance was not adversely affected, given that Ce(III) dose was ≤20 mg/L. Process kinetics investigated also suggested that the maximum Ce(III) dose without any visible inhibition to the activities of ammonium oxidizing bacteria was 1.37 mg/L, but demonstrated otherwise when Ce(III) dose exceeded 5.63 mg/L. Compared to the control, microbes conducted efficient Ce(III) removal (averaged 98.66%) via biosorption using extracellular polymeric substances (EPS). Notably, significant deposits of Ce(III) was found within the EPS produced as revealed by SEM, EDX, CLSM and FTIR. 2-dimensional correlation infrared-(2DCOS-IR) revealed ester group (uronic acid) as a major organic functional group that promoted Ce(III) removal. Excitation-emission matrix-(EEM) spectrum and 2DCOS-IR suggested the dominance of Fulvic acid, hypothesized to have promoted the performance of the PN process under Ce(III) dosage.

Brucella is a genus of Gram-negative intracellular pathogens that cause animal and human diseases. Brucella survival and replication inside immune cells is critical for the establishment of chronic infections. Protein modifications by small ubiquitin-related modifier proteins and the NF-κB pathway are involved in many cellular activities, playing major roles in regulating protein function that is essential for pathogenic bacteria during infection. However, the relationship between them in the intracellular survival of Brucella is still largely unknown. We demonstrated that Brucella abortus 2308 infection can activate the expression of small ubiquitin-related modifier-2 proteins in a time-dependent manner. We found the production of Th1 cytokines (IFN-γ and TNF-α) and the transcription of NF-κB/p65 were promoted by overexpression and inhibited by interference of small ubiquitin-related modifier-2. In addition, we showed that small ubiquitin-related modifier-2 can inhibit intracellular survival of Brucella abortus 2308 by regulating activation of the NF-κB pathway. Taken together, this work shows that small ubiquitin-related modifier-2 modification of NF-κB2/p65 is essential for the survival of Brucella abortus 2308 inside macrophages. This work may help to unravel the pathogenic mechanisms of Brucella infections.

Although great progresses have been made in the diagnosis and treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), its prognostic marker remains controversial. In this current study, weighted correlation network analysis and Cox regression analysis showed significant prognostic value of five autophagy-related long non-coding RNAs (AR-lncRNAs) (including TMCC1-AS1, PLBD1-AS1, MKLN1-AS, LINC01063, and CYTOR) for HCC patients from data in The Cancer Genome Atlas. By using them, we constructed a five-AR-lncRNA prognostic signature, which accurately distinguished the high- and low-risk groups of HCC patients. All of the five AR lncRNAs were highly expressed in the high-risk group of HCC patients. This five-AR-lncRNA prognostic signature showed good area under the curve (AUC) value (AUC = 0.751) for the overall survival (OS) prediction in either all HCC patients or HCC patients stratified according to several clinical traits. A prognostic nomogram with this five-AR-lncRNA signature predicted the 3- and 5-year OS outcomes of HCC patients intuitively and accurately (concordance index = 0.745). By parallel comparison, this five-AR-lncRNA signature has better prognosis accuracy than the other three recently published signatures. Furthermore, we discovered the prediction ability of the signature on therapeutic outcomes of HCC patients, including chemotherapy and immunotherapeutic responses. Gene set enrichment analysis and gene mutation analysis revealed that dysregulated cell cycle pathway, purine metabolism, and TP53 mutation may play an important role in determining the OS outcomes of HCC patients in the high-risk group. Collectively, our study suggests a new five-AR-lncRNA prognostic signature for HCC patients.

To date, a variety of Brucella effector proteins have been found to mediate host cell secretion, autophagy, inflammation, and other signal pathways, but nuclear effector proteins have not yet been reported. We identified the first Brucella nucleomodulin, BspJ, and we screened out the BspJ interaction host proteins NME/NM23 nucleoside diphosphate kinase 2 (NME2) and creatine kinase B (CKB) through yeast two-hybrid and co-immunoprecipitation assays. These proteins are related to the host cell energy synthesis, metabolism, and apoptosis pathways. Brucella nucleomodulin BspJ will decrease the expression level of NME2 and CKB. In addition, BspJ gene deletion strains promoted the apoptosis of macrophages and reduced the intracellular survival of Brucella in host cells. In short, we found nucleomodulin BspJ may directly or indirectly regulate host cell apoptosis through the interaction with NME2 and CKB by mediating energy metabolism pathways in response to the intracellular circulation of Brucella infection, but the mechanism needs further study.

We studied livestock abortion and various associated risk factors in the Ili region of northwest China. Livestock abortion prevalence was estimated and correlated with infections (Brucellosis, Salmonellosis, Mycoplasma and Chlamydia seropositivity) and management (farming type and contact with other herds/flocks) risk factors. A total of 2996 serum samples (1406 cow, 1590 sheep) were identified by RBPT (Rose Bengal Plate Test) and c-ELISA (competitive-enzyme linked immunosorbent assay), and they showed the overall seroprevalence of brucellosis in the study area was cow 6.76%, sheep 9.50%. The seroprevalence of brucellosis in X county was cow 7.06%, sheep 9.12%; in H county was cow 11.70%, sheep 10.80%; and in Q county was cow 4.22%, sheep 9.11%. The overall seroprevalence of Mycoplasma in the study area was cow 3.20%, sheep 6.42%. The seroprevalence of Mycoplasma in X county was cow 3.39%, sheep 7.98%; in H county was cow 5.26%, sheep 9.97%; and in Q county was cow 2.11%, sheep 4.33%. Brucellosis is serious zoonotic disease affecting both animals and humans. Brucella inhibits the apoptosis of host macrophages. And the JAK2/STAT3 pathway regulates various cellular physiological activities. However, the association between Brucella-mediated inhibition of macrophage apoptosis and regulation of the JAK2/STAT3 pathway is unclear. In the current study, We tested the the activation of JAK2/ STAT3 pathway and evaluated its function during Brucella M5-90 infection in cells. The result was found that infection with Brucella M5-90 activated the JAK2/STAT3 pathway and induced phosphorylation of both JAK2 and STAT3 in a time-dependent manner. JAK2 and STAT3 phosphorylation were inhibited by AG490 in a dose-dependent manner. Inhibition of the JAK2/STAT3 pathway with AG490 significantly induced proinflammatory responses, macrophage apoptosis at the transcriptional and protein levels, as well as intracellular survival and replication of Brucella M5-90. This study indicates that the JAK2/STAT3 pathway plays a major role in macrophage apoptosis induced by infection with Brucella M5-90. In addition, TNF-α plays a major role in the regulation of the JAK2/STAT6 pathway during Brucella M5-90 infection. The above information may help to unravel the pathogenic mechanism of Brucella infection.

Condensed matter physics: crystallographic disorder enhances superconductivity Substituting sulfur into TaSe2 induces disorder, which further helps to enhance superconductivity, with a higher transition temperature. It is higher than that of either TaSe2 or TaS2. An international team of researchers led by Cedomir Petrovic at Brookhaven national laboratory of USA synthesized single crystal alloys of TaSe2− x S x and measured the electrical conductivity and superconducting transition temperature as a function of x. They found that the transition temperature optimally increased when a maximal disorder is introduced by substituting sulfur into TaSe2. The role of such a disorder was understood as to suppress other competing orders while keeping superconductivity intact. By breaking other orders, conducting carriers were released so that they contributed further to superconductivity. These results highlight a benefit role of disorder and provide a possible way to enhance superconductivity.

The structure, transport, thermodynamic properties, x-ray absorption spectra (XAS), and electronic structure of a new barium titanate suboxide, Ba1+δTi13−δO12 (δ = 0.11), are reported. It is a paramagnetic poor metal with hole carriers dominating the transport. Fermi liquid behavior appears at low temperature. The oxidization state of Ti obtained by the XAS is consistent with the metallic Ti2+ state. Local density approximation band structure calculations reveal the material is near the Van Hove singularity. The pseudogap behavior in the Ti-d band and the strong hybridization between the Ti-d and O-p orbitals reflect the characteristics of the building blocks of the Ti13 semi-cluster and the TiO4 quasi-squares, respectively.

Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) is a severe viral disease in pigs, causing great economic losses worldwide each year. The causative agent of the disease, PRRS virus (PRRSV), is a member of the family Arteriviridae. Here we report our investigation of the unparalleled large-scale outbreaks of an originally unknown, but so-called "high fever" disease in China in 2006 with the essence of PRRS, which spread to more than 10 provinces (autonomous cities or regions) and affected over 2,000,000 pigs with about 400,000 fatal cases. Different from the typical PRRS, numerous adult sows were also infected by the "high fever" disease. This atypical PRRS pandemic was initially identified as a hog cholera-like disease manifesting neurological symptoms (e.g., shivering), high fever (40-42 degrees C), erythematous blanching rash, etc. Autopsies combined with immunological analyses clearly showed that multiple organs were infected by highly pathogenic PRRSVs with severe pathological changes observed. Whole-genome analysis of the isolated viruses revealed that these PRRSV isolates are grouped into Type II and are highly homologous to HB-1, a Chinese strain of PRRSV (96.5% nucleotide identity). More importantly, we observed a unique molecular hallmark in these viral isolates, namely a discontinuous deletion of 30 amino acids in nonstructural protein 2 (NSP2). Taken together, this is the first comprehensive report documenting the 2006 epidemic of atypical PRRS outbreak in China and identifying the 30 amino-acid deletion in NSP2, a novel determining factor for virulence which may be implicated in the high pathogenicity of PRRSV, and will stimulate further study by using the infectious cDNA clone technique.
