CO2 geological storage is a guaranteed technology for achieving carbon neutrality. The offshore deposit basin is far away from the human activity area, and the implementation of a CO2 geological storage is more advantageous than the land sedimentary basin. To find out the CO2 storage potential in the Weixinan sag of the Beibu Gulf Basin, based on the 8 indicators such as caprock burial depth, the maximum thickness of single layer mudstone, mud-soil ratio, fault density and reservoir porosity, formation thickness, sand-soil ratio, permeability, etc., it has established a reservoir evaluation system for the secondary structure unit of the basin. Combined with the core physical property data of lays and 3D geological models, the reservoir and caprock of the Weixinan sag are optimized, and the effective storage potential is evaluated with the US-DOE method. The results show that within 800−3000 meters below the sea floor, in the Weixinan sag, there are two sets of reservoir-cap combinations suitable for CO2 storage. Combination 1: in Neogene, the neritic mudstone of the first member of the Jiaowei Formation is the cap rock, and the neritic sandstone of the second member of the Jiaowei Formation and the Xiayang Formation is the reservoir, and the effective storage capacity is 0.749 billion tons. Combination 2: in the Paleogene, the deep lake mudstone in the second member of the Weizhou Formation is the cap rock, and the sandstone in the third member of the Weizhou Formation is the reservoir, and the effective storage capacity is 0.374 billion tons. In the Weixinan sag, two sets of reservoir-cap assemblages suitable for CO2 storage in the saline aquifers are selected, with an effective storage capacity of 1.123 billion tons. According to the evaluation of the annual CO2 emission of 70 million tons in the west of Guangdong Province, it can meet the CO2 emission reduction needs of the region for more than 16 years. Offshore geological storage is a potential path for the green and sustainable development of coastal heavy chemical clustering areas and to achieve the goal of carbon neutrality.

Serial correlations within temperature time series serve as indicators of the temporal consistency of climate events. This study delves into the serial correlations embedded in global surface air temperature (SAT) data. Initially, we preprocess the SAT time series to eradicate seasonal patterns and linear trends, resulting in the SAT anomaly time series, which encapsulates the inherent variability of Earth's climate system. Employing diverse statistical techniques, we identify three distinct types of serial correlations: short-term, long-term, and nonlinear. To identify short-term correlations, we utilize the first-order autoregressive model, AR(1), revealing a global pattern that can be partially attributed to atmospheric Rossby waves in extratropical regions and the Eastern Pacific warm pool. For long-term correlations, we adopt the standard detrended fluctuation analysis, finding that the global pattern aligns with long-term climate variability, such as the El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) over the Eastern Pacific. Furthermore, we apply the horizontal visibility graph (HVG) algorithm to transform the SAT anomaly time series into complex networks. The topological parameters of these networks aptly capture the long-term correlations present in the data. Additionally, we introduce a novel topological parameter, Δσ, to detect nonlinear correlations. The statistical significance of this parameter is rigorously tested using the Monte Carlo method, simulating fractional Brownian motion and fractional Gaussian noise processes with a predefined DFA exponent to estimate confidence intervals. In conclusion, serial correlations are universal in global SAT time series and the presence of these serial correlations should be considered carefully in climate sciences.

Cadmium (Cd) has been widely used in industry applications, leading to water and soil contamination. This study investigated the potential ability of Pseudomonas nitroreducens (11830) to perform the biosorption of cadmium from aqueous solution and soil. The biosorption characteristics were described using equilibrium isotherm and kinetic studies. The Langmuir adsorption isotherm indicated a better fit with the experimental data (R2 = 0.980), with a maximum capacity of 160.51 mg/g at 30 °C in an initial aqueous solution of 300 mg/L Cd2+. The experiments followed a pseudo-second-order kinetics model (R2 > 0.99), especially at a low initial concentration. The biosorption mechanisms involved were determined through scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) and protein analysis. The SEM and TEM figures showed that the morphology of cells changed before and after the adsorption of Cd, and the EDS confirmed that Cd was absorbed on the surface of the cell. The analysis of proteins indicated that the protein species increased after the stimulation of Cd, which further confirmed the biosorption mechanism. A pot experiment confirmed that 11830 could passivate the cadmium in soil and reduce its uptake and utilization by Houttuynia cordata Thunb (H. cordata). This work demonstrates the potential application of microorganisms in inhibiting the accumulation of Cd in crops.

Background: The central role of inflammatory progression in the development of Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), especially in severe cases, is indisputable. However, the role of some novel inflammatory biomarkers in the prognosis of COVID-19 remains controversial. Objective: To assess the effect of some novel inflammatory biomarkers in the occurrence and prognosis of COVID-19. Methods: We systematically retrieved the studies related to COVID-19 and the inflammatory biomarkers of interest. The data of each biomarker in different groups were extracted, then were categorized and pooled. The standardized mean difference was chosen as an effect size measure to compare the difference between groups. Results: A total of 90 studies with 12,059 participants were included in this study. We found higher levels of endocan, PTX3, suPAR, sRAGE, galectin-3, and monocyte distribution width (MDW) in the COVID-19 positive groups compared to the COVID-19 negative groups. No significant differences for suPAR and galectin-3 were detected between the severe group and mild/moderate group of COVID-19. In addition, the deaths usually had higher levels of PTX3, sCD14-ST, suPAR, and MDW at admission compared to the survivors. Furthermore, patients with higher levels of endocan, galectin-3, sCD14-ST, suPAR, and MDW usually developed poorer comprehensive clinical prognoses. Conclusions: In summary, this meta-analysis provides the most up-to-date and comprehensive evidence for the role of the mentioned novel inflammatory biomarkers in the prognosis of COVID-19, especially in evaluating death and other poor prognoses, with most biomarkers showing a better discriminatory ability.

The present study endeavors to assess the applicability of NTS in this domain.MethodsThis retrospective study comprised a cohort of 71 patients who were under intensive care at Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University between June 2020 and January 2022. Marine hydrates mainly occur in clayey silt sediments, and their occurrence environment has the characteristics of a high clay content and low permeability, which seriously inhibit an increase in the gas production rate. This study presents a new method, the high-pressure jet breaking and sand filling method, to transform the natural gas hydrate (NGH) reservoir near the production well, whereby a water jet is used to form an area of sediment with large particle diameters and high permeability. Based on indoor experiments, we report the characteristics of hydrate formation, decomposition, and phase equilibrium in the transition area formed by this method under different sand particle sizes and mass fractions. The addition of sand at a high mass fraction with a large particle diameter significantly shortened the time required for rapid hydrate formation, prolonged slow hydrate formation, and reduced the increase in temperature. With an increase in the mass fraction of large-diameter sand, the free water content of pores increased, which made it easier to form hydrates with large particles, thus delaying the hydrate decomposition rate. The phase equilibrium curves of hydrates in clayey silt sediments with sand added at mass fractions of 30% and 50% were close to that of bulk hydrate in pure water at lower temperatures. As the temperature increased, the phase equilibrium curves gradually approached those of hydrates in clayey silt sediments.

Abstract To optimize the optimal nozzle structure and multiple nozzle arrangement for hydrate jet crushing and to promote the development of solid fluidization extraction technology for shallow unconformity hydrate in China’s oceans, the submerged jet flow field of six commonly used nozzle structures in the downhole in-situ jet crushing process was analyzed on the basis of the solid fluidization extraction process in double-layer pipes, and the effect of the jet hole arrangement on the overflow performance of hydrate slurry in the outer annulus of double-layer pipes was also investigated. It was demonstrated that tapered straight nozzles were preferably selected as the nozzle type for hydrate solid fluidization mining process based on jet core stage length, jet energy dissipation rate, and jet fluid axial velocity. In the meantime, the optimum arrangement of the nozzles was preferred on the basis of the annular pressure drop and the flow resistance coefficient, with the number of single circle not higher than 3 and the axial spacing of the nozzles not lower than 50 mm. This study can provide a theoretical basis for nozzle selection and tool design for the solid fluidization jet crushing process of marine unconformable hydrates.

Acute lung injury (ALI) and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), the prime causes of morbidity and mortality in critically ill patients, are usually treated by general supportive treatments. Endoplasmic reticulum autophagy (ER-phagy) maintains cellular homeostasis by degrading damaged endoplasmic reticulum (ER) fragments and misfolded proteins. ER-phagy is crucial for maintaining ER homeostasis and improving the internal environment. ER-phagy has a particular role in some aspects, such as immunity, inflammation, cell death, pathogen infection, and collagen quality. In this review, we summarized the definition, epidemiology, and pathophysiology of ALI/ARDS and described the regulatory mechanisms and functions of ER-phagy as well as discussed the potential role of ER-phagy in ALI/ARDS from the perspectives of immunity, inflammation, apoptosis, pathogen infection, and fibrosis to provide a novel and effective target for improving the prognosis of ALI/ARDS.

Abstract Background Hypoxic pulmonary hypertension (HPH) is a chronic progressive advanced disorder pathologically characterized by pulmonary vascular remodeling. Notch4 as a cell surface receptor is critical for vascular development. However, little is known about the role and mechanism of Notch4 in the development of hypoxic vascular remodeling. Methods Lung tissue samples were collected to detect the expression of Notch4 from patients with HPH and matched controls. Human pulmonary artery smooth muscle cells (HPASMCs) were cultured in hypoxic and normoxic conditions. Real-time quantitative PCR and western blotting were used to examine the mRNA and protein levels of Notch4. HPASMCs were transfected with small interference RNA (siRNA) against Notch4 or Notch4 overexpression plasmid, respectively. Cell viability, cell proliferation, apoptosis, and migration were assessed using Cell Counting Kit-8, Edu, Annexin-V/PI, and Transwell assay. The interaction between Notch4 and ERK, JNK, P38 MAPK were analyzed by co-immunoprecipitation. Adeno-associated virus 1-mediated siRNA against Notch4 (AAV1-si-Notch4) was injected into the airways of hypoxic rats. Right ventricular systolic pressure (RVSP), right ventricular hypertrophy and pulmonary vascular remodeling were evaluated. Results In this study, we demonstrate that Notch4 is highly expressed in the media of pulmonary vascular and is upregulated in lung tissues from patients with HPH and HPH rats compared with control groups. In vitro, hypoxia induces the high expression of Delta-4 and Notch4 in HPASMCs. The increased expression of Notch4 promotes HPASMCs proliferation and migration and inhibits cells apoptosis via ERK, JNK, P38 signaling pathways. Furthermore, co-immunoprecipitation result elucidates the interaction between Notch4 and ERK/JNK/P38. In vivo, silencing Notch4 partly abolished the increase in RVSP and pulmonary vascular remodeling caused by hypoxia in HPH rats. Conclusions These findings reveal an important role of the Notch4-ERK/JNK/P38 MAPK axis in hypoxic pulmonary remodeling and provide a potential therapeutic target for patients with HPH.

Carbon dioxide (CO2) dissolution is the secondary trapping mechanism enhancing the long-term security of CO2 in confined geological formations. CO2 injected into a randomly multilayered formation will preferentially migrate along high permeability layers, increasing CO2 dissolution efficiency. In this study, sequential Gaussian simulation is adopted to construct the stratified saline formations, and two-phase flow based on MRST is established to illustrate the spatial mobility and distribution of CO2 migration. The results show that gravity index G and permeability heterogeneity σY2 are the two predominant factors controlling the spatial mobility and distribution of CO2 transports. The CO2 migration shows a totally different spatial mobility under different gravity index and heterogeneity. When the permeability discrepancy is relatively larger, CO2 preferentially migrates along the horizontal layer without accompanying the vertical migration. For the formation controlled by gravity index, CO2 migration is governed by supercritical gaseous characteristics. For the medium gravity index, the upward and lateral flow characteristics of the CO2 plume is determined by gravity index and heterogeneity. When the gravity index is smaller, permeability heterogeneity is the key factor influencing CO2 plume characteristics. Permeability heterogeneity is the decisive factor in determining final CO2 dissolution efficiency. This investigation of CO2 mobility in randomly multilayered reservoirs provides an effective reference for CO2 storage.

Abstract Background Hypoxic pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a refractory pulmonary vascular remodeling disease, and the efficiency of current PH treatment strategies is unsatisfactory. Tribbles homolog 3 (TRB3), a member of the pseudokinase family, is upregulated in diverse types of cellular stresses and functions as either a pro-proliferative or pro-apoptotic factor depending on the specific microenvironment. The regulatory mechanisms of TRB3 in hypoxic PH are poorly understood. Methods We performed studies using TRB3-specific silencing and overexpressing lentiviral vectors to investigate the potential roles of TRB3 on hypoxic pulmonary artery smooth muscle cells (PASMCs). Adeno-associated virus type 1(AVV1) vectors encoding short-hairpin RNAs against rat TRB3 were used to assess the role of TRB3 on hypoxic PH. TRB3 protein expression in PH patients was explored in clinical samples by western blot analysis. Results The results of whole-rat genome oligo microarrays showed that the expression of TRB3 and endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS)-related genes was upregulated in hypoxic PASMCs. TRB3 protein expression was significantly upregulated by hypoxia and thapsigargin. In addition, 4-PBA and 4μ8C, both inhibitors of ERS, decreased the expression of TRB3. TRB3 knockdown promoted apoptosis and damaged the proliferative and migratory abilities of hypoxic PASMCs as well as inhibited activation of the MAPK signaling pathway. TRB3 overexpression stimulated the proliferation and migration of PASMCs but decreased the apoptosis of PASMCs, which was partly reversed by specific inhibitors of ERK, JNK and p38 MAPK. The Co-IP results revealed that TRB3 directly interacts with ERK, JNK, and p38 MAPK. Knockdown of TRB3 in rat lung tissue reduced the right ventricular systolic pressure and decreased pulmonary medial wall thickness in hypoxic PH model rats. Further, the expression of TRB3 in lung tissues was higher in patients with PH compared with those who have normal pulmonary artery pressure. Conclusions TRB3 was upregulated in hypoxic PASMCs and was affected by ERS. TRB3 plays a key role in the pathogenesis of hypoxia-induced PH by binding and activating the ERK, JNK, and p38 MAPK pathways. Thus, TRB3 might be a promising target for the treatment of hypoxic PH.

Abstract Background Neutrophilic asthmatics (NA) have less response to inhaled corticosteroids. We aimed to find out the predictor of treatment response in NA. Methods Asthmatics (n = 115) and healthy controls (n = 28) underwent clinical assessment during 6-month follow-up with standardized therapy. Asthmatics were categorized by sputum differential cell count. The mRNA expressions were measured by RT-qPCR for sputum cytokines (IFN-γ, IL-1β, IL-27, FOXP3, IL-17A, and IL-5). The protein of IL-1β in sputum supernatant was detected by ELISA. Reticular basement membranes (RBM) were measured in the biopsy samples. The role and signaling pathways of IL-1β mediating the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) process were explored through A549 cells. Results NA had increased baseline sputum cell IL-1β expression compared to eosinophilic asthmatics (EA). After follow-up, NA had less improvement in FEV1 compared to EA. For all asthmatics, sputum IL-1β mRNA was positively correlated with protein expression. Sputum IL-1β mRNA and protein levels were negatively correlated to FEV1 improvement. After subgrouping, the correlation between IL-1β mRNA and FEV1 improvement was significant in NA but not in EA. Thickness of RBM in asthmatics was greater than that of healthy controls and positively correlated with neutrophil percentage in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid. In vitro experiments, the process of IL-1β augmenting TGF-β1-induced EMT cannot be abrogated by glucocorticoid or montelukast sodium, but can be reversed by MAPK inhibitors. Conclusions IL-1β level in baseline sputum predicts the poor lung function improvement in NA. The potential mechanism may be related to IL-1β augmenting TGF-β1-induced steroid-resistant EMT through MAPK signaling pathways. Abstract Persistent luminescence has attracted great attention due to the unique applications in molecular imaging, photodynamic therapy, and information storage, among many others. However, tuning the dynamic persistent luminescence through molecular design and materials engineering remains a challenge. In this work, the first example of excitation‐dependent persistent luminescence in a reverse mode for smart optical materials through tailoring the excited‐state proton transfer process of metal cytosine halide hybrids is reported. This approach enables ultralong phosphorescence and thermally activated delayed fluorescence emission colors highly tuned by modulation of excitation wavelength, time evolution, and temperature, which realize multi‐mode dynamic color adjustment from green to blue or cyan to yellow‐green. At the single crystal level, the 2D excitation/space/time‐resolved optical waveguides with triple color conversion have been constructed on the organic‐metal halide microsheets, which represent a new strategy for multi‐dimensional information encryption and optical logic gate applications.

Objective: This study aims to describe the imaging features of naïve asthma patients, defined as not receiving corticosteroids or other asthma medications for at least 1 month, and their association with therapeutic response, and to discover novel unbiased imaging phenotypes. Methods: A total of 109 naïve asthma patients and 50 healthy controls were enrolled in this study. Clinical data and imaging indices of high-resolution computed tomography were collected. The correlation between imaging indices and clinical features was analyzed. Cluster analyses were adopted to determine three novel imaging phenotypes. Results: Compared with healthy controls, naïve asthma patients presented higher scores of airway remodeling, bronchiectasis, and mucus plugs. Mean airway wall area (WA)% was inversely correlated with mid-expiratory flow velocity% predicted. The extent score of bronchiectasis was positively correlated with smoking history and significantly increased in the high mucus group. Mucus plugs were related to improving lung function and type 2 (T2) inflammation, as assessed by sputum and blood eosinophils and fraction of exhaled nitric oxide. Cluster 1 patients had a high proportion of emphysema, the best lung function, and the lowest T2 inflammation; cluster 2 patients had severe airway remodeling, relatively good lung function, and moderate T2 inflammation; cluster 3 patients had severe airway remodeling, mucus plugs, and bronchiectasis, and showed the worst lung function and highest T2 inflammation. Conclusion: Naïve asthma patients had the imaging traits of airway remodeling, bronchiectasis, and mucus plugs. The unbiased imaging phenotypes had good consistency with clinical characteristics, therapeutic response, and T2 inflammation expression in naïve asthma patients.

The stage of decompensation is termed end-stage liver cirrhosis. Patients with decompensated cirrhosis (DCC) often have a variety of comorbidities that contribute to exacerbation of the disease and its high mortality rate. By comparing differential gene expression, transcriptomic analysis is useful for exploring relevant functional changes during disease progression. The purpose of this study was to identify differentially expressed long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) and mRNAs in patients with decompensated cirrhosis and to further explore the functions as well as interactions between lncRNAs and mRNAs. Four patients with decompensated cirrhosis and four controls with liver cirrhosis were recruited in this study. RNA was isolated from peripheral blood mononuclear cells, and RNA-seq was used for transcriptome analysis. The functions of differentially expressed mRNAs were revealed by Gene Ontology (GO) functional annotation and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway enrichment analyses, and a regulatory network was also constructed. A total of 1046 differentially expressed mRNAs and 1175 lncRNAs were identified between the decompensated cirrhosis patients and cirrhosis controls. Functional enrichment analyses indicated enrichment of genes involved in pathways related to inflammation and cellular metabolic activities. In addition, the findings suggested that the phagosome/endosome/autophagy-lysosome pathway might play an important role in cirrhotic decompensation. In summary, this study identified differentially expressed mRNAs (DE-mRNAs) and DE-lncRNAs and predicted the biological processes and signaling pathways involved in cirrhotic decompensation, which might provide new ideas for further revealing the molecular mechanism of DCC pathogenesis.

Here the authors report a zero-dimensional metal halide hybrid that exhibits zero-thermal-quenching ultralong phosphorescence over a wide temperature range of 220 K, and demonstrate use for Morse code encryption and logic gates.

Understanding how altered hydrodynamics related to climate change and anthropogenic modifications affect ecosystem integrity of shallow coastal soft-sediment environments requires a sound integration of how species populations influence ecosystem functioning across heterogeneous spatial scales. Here, we hindcasted how intertidal habitat loss and altered hydrodynamic regimes between 1955 and 2010 associated with geomorphological change to accommodate expansion in anthropogenic activities in the Western Scheldt altered spatial patterns and basin-wide estimates of ecosystem functioning. To this end we combined an empirically derived metabolic model for the effect of the common ragworm Hediste diversicolor on sediment biogeochemistry (measured as sediment oxygen uptake) with a hydrodynamic and population biomass distribution model. Our integrative modeling approach predicted an overall decrease by 304 tons in ragworm biomass between 1955 and 2010, accounting for a reduction by 28% in stimulated sediment oxygen uptake at the landscape scale. Local gains or losses in habitat suitability and ecosystem functioning were primarily driven by changes in maximal current velocities and inundation regimes resulting from deepening, dredging and disposal practices. By looking into the past, we have demonstrated how hydro- and morphodynamic changes affect soft-sediment ecology and highlight the applicability of the integrative framework to upscale anticipated population effects on ecosystem functioning.

Hypoxia contributes to the progression and metastasis of lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD). However, the specific underlying molecular mechanisms have not been fully elucidated. Here we report that Notch4 is upregulated in lung tissue from lung cancer patients. Functionally, Hypoxia activates the expressions of Delta-like 4 and Notch4, resulting in the excessive proliferation and migration of LUAD cells as well as apoptotic resistance. Notch4 silencing reduced ERK, JNK, and P38 activation. Meanwhile, Notch4 overexpression enhanced ERK, JNK, and P38 activation in LUAD cells. Furthermore, Notch4 exerted pro-proliferation, anti-apoptosis and pro-migration effects on LUAD cells that were partly reversed by the inhibitors of ERK, JNK, and p38. The binding interaction between Notch4 and ERK/JNK/P38 were confirmed by the co-immunoprecipitation assay. In vivo study revealed that Notch4 played a key role in the growth and metastasis of LUAD using two xenograft models. This study demonstrates that hypoxia activates Notch4-ERK/JNK/P38 MAPK signaling pathways to promote LUAD cell progression and metastasis.

The pressure-controlled injection tool (PCIT) is the key equipment in the process of high-pressure water jet fragmentation in the solid fluidization exploitation of deep-sea natural gas hydrate (NGH). The internal flow field erosion wear numerical simulation model of PCIT is established through computational fluid dynamics software to study the influence law and main factors of the drilling fluid erosion wear of PCIT. The influence laws of different drilling fluid physical parameters and different structural parameters on PCIT erosion wear were analyzed based on the Euler–Lagrangian algorithm bidirectional coupled discrete phase model (DPM) and the solid–liquid two-phase flow model. The results show that the easily eroded areas are the cone of the sliding core, the plug transition section, the plug surface, and the axial flow passage. The sliding core inlet angle and solid particle size are the main factors affecting the PCIT erosion rate. When the inlet angle of the sliding core is 30°, the diameter of solid-phase particles in drilling fluid is less than 0.3 mm, and the erosion degree of the PCIT could be effectively reduced. The research results can provide guidance for the design and application of the PCIT and advance the early realization of the commercial exploitation of hydrate.

Summary: Direct and efficient photocatalytic overall water splitting is crucial for the sustainable conversion and storage of renewable solar energy. Herein, we present the design of a carbon-rich graphitic carbon nitride (Cco-C3N4), prepared from a layered molecular cocrystal precursor. The cocrystal microsheets were synthesized using a facile hydrothermal process. Following two-step thermal treatment and liquid exfoliation, the product maintains the 2D morphology owing to the toptactic transformation process. The Cco-C3N4 exhibits an enhanced photogenerated electron-hole separation, high charge transport capacity, and prolonged lifetime of the carriers, relative to the g-C3N4 system. In the absence of any sacrificial reagent or co-catalyst, the Cco-C3N4 microsheets exhibit a high photocatalytic activity. The work presented in this report supplies a cocrystal route for the orderly molecular self-assembly of precursor materials to tailor the chemical compositions and electronic structures. Long-persistent luminescence based on purely inorganic and/or organic compounds has recently attracted much attention in a wide variety of fields including illumination, biological imaging, and information safety. However, simultaneously tuning the static and dynamic afterglow performance still presents a challenge. In this work, we put forward a new route of organic-doped inorganic framework to achieve wide-range and multicolor ultralong room-temperature phosphorescence (RTP). Through a facile hydrothermal method, phosphor (tetrafluoroterephthalic acid (TFTPA)) into the CdCO3 (or Zn2(OH)2CO3) host matrix exhibits an excitation-dependent colorful RTP due to the formation of diverse molecular aggregations with multicentral luminescence. The RTP lifetime of the doped organic/inorganic hybrids is greatly enhanced (313 times) compared to the pristine TFTPA. The high RTP quantum yield (43.9%) and good stability guarantee their easy visualization in both ambient and extreme conditions (such as acidic/basic solutions and an oxygen environment). Further codoped inorganic ions (Mn2+ and Pb2+) afford the hybrid materials with a novel time-resolved tunable afterglow emission, and the excitation-dependent RTP color is highly adjustable from dark blue to red, covering nearly the whole visible spectrum and outperforming the current state-of-the-art RTP materials. Therefore, this work not only describes a combined codoping and multicentral strategy to obtain statically and dynamically tunable long-persistent luminescence but also provides great opportunity for the use of organic-inorganic hybrid materials in multilevel anticounterfeiting and multicolor display applications.

Abstract Background Asthmatic patients with chest tightness as their only presenting symptom (chest tightness variant asthma [CTVA]) have clinical characteristics of eosinophilic airway inflammation similar to those of classic asthma (CA); however, whether CTVA has similar response to antiasthma treatment as compared with CA remains unclear. Objective The response of 76 CTVA patients to standard asthma treatments with inhaled corticosteroids with long‐acting beta‐agonists was explored in a 52‐week multicenter, prospective, real‐world study. We investigated the relationship between plasma miRNAs levels and inflammatory characteristics in asthmatic patients.Eligible adults with untreated asthma (n = 35) underwent a clinical assessment, sputum induction, and assessment of pulmonary function test and Asthma Control Test (ACT) scores. Asthma phenotypes were defined using the sputum cell count. miR-199a-5p expression was measured using quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qPCR). Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) stimulation was used to detect miR-199a-5p secretion from peripheral blood-derived neutrophil, lymphocyte, macrophage and BEAS-2B cells. The correlation of miR-199a-5p expression with clinical parameters was analyzed using multiple linear regression analysis. In silico analysis predicted the target genes and signaling pathway of miR-199a-5p. Transfection of miR-199a-5p mimics in human airway smooth muscle cells (HASMCs) was performed in vitro.The miRNA-199a-5p levels in plasma and sputum increased significantly in patients with neutrophilic asthma compared to healthy subjects (ps = 0.014 and 0.006, respectively). Expression of miR-199a-5p in the plasma of asthmatic patients positively correlated with sputum miR-199a-5p expression (r = 0.511, p = 0.021). The miR-199a-5p level was only elevated with LPS stimulation in neutrophils but not macrophages, lymphocytes, or epithelial cells from healthy controls (p < 0.01). miR-199a-5p expression increased in response to LPS (p = 0.005) and LPS combined with IL-4 (p = 0.003), but not IL-4 alone. However, peripheral neutrophils from eosinophilic asthma patients did not respond to LPS with increased miR-199a-5p expression (n = 5, p > 0.05) in contrast to the significant response from neutrophilic patients (n = 4, p < 0.0001). miR-199a-5p negatively correlated with FEV1, FVC and PEF (r = -0.377, p = 0.026; r = -0.419, p = 0.012; and r = -0.392, p = 0.024, respectively). Multivariate correlation analysis confirmed that the plasma miR-199a-5p levels negatively correlated with FEV1 in patients with asthma (Adjusted R2 = 0.164, p = 0.015). In silico analysis suggested that the WNT signaling pathway participates in miR-199a-5p mediation of smooth muscle cell hypertrophy. In vitro experiment, miR-199a-5p mimics inhibited the protein expressions of WNT2 and WNT4, decreased the c-myc expression and dramatically increased the Sm-MHC expression in HASMCs.Plasma miR-199a-5p was increased in neutrophilic asthma and negatively correlated with pulmonary function, which suggests that miR-199a-5p actively contributes to disease pathogenesis by modulating the inflammatory process and transferring the signal from inflammatory cells to structure cells.

Carbon dioxide capture, utilization and storage technology is considered to be one of the most effective strategies to mitigate CO2 emissions. In this process, CO2 that is injected into seabed sediments under specific temperature and pressure conditions is sealed in the form of CO2 hydrate, known for its high gas storage density and exceptional security features. This method has significant advantages compared with onshore geological storage schemes. Thus far, however, there has been no industrial demonstration of CO2 hydrate storage, and the CO2 hydrate storage potential in the South China Sea remains underexplored without targeted evaluations. In this study, the phase equilibrium mechanism is combined with the volumetric method to describe and evaluate the CO2 hydrate storage distribution range, effective thickness, and potential volume available for CO2 hydrate storage. Based on the latest exploration and development data from the Qiongdongnan Basin, along with geological structure data, multibeam bathymetry, local high-resolution three-dimension multichannel seismic reflection data, logging data, and submarine heat flow data, the distribution of the CO2 hydrate storage stability zone is determined. The results show that the effective thickness and regional scope of CO2 hydrate storage in the concerned area can be determined by virtue of the local water depths and the submarine temperature and pressure of 18 virtual wells. The minimum water depth in the Qiongdongnan Basin that satisfies the temperature and pressure conditions needed for CO2 sediment storage is established as 415 m. The theoretical geological storage capacity of CO2 hydrate in the Qiongdongnan Basin is determined as 5.75x1011 to 8.73x1011 t, where the value range of E is between 0.56 and 0.85. These findings offer a solid foundation for China to create, advance and execute a viable strategy for CO2 hydrate storage. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
