Sino-Japanese textile trade is one of the first industries to enjoy tax reduction dividends under the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) agreement. This article aims to understand whether the signing of the RECP agreement is an opportunity or a challenge for the Sino-Japanese textile trade. Based on the revealed comparative advantage index analysis of the current situation of the Sino-Japanese textile trade, it was found that Chinese textiles have comparative advantages in the import and export trade of HS61 - HS63. At the same time, a WITS-SMART model was used to simulate tax reduction in the near and long term to analyze the static and dynamic effects of RCEP agreement on Chinese and Japanese textiles. In the short term, China will benefit more from Japan’s tax reduction; in the long run, both China and Japan can benefit from the other’s tax reduction and the total effect of trade will be doubled, with good trade potential and prospects. According to the research findings, the Chinese textile industry should seize the opportunities brought by the RCEP agreement to achieve better and faster development.

Background As one of the most essential vegetation types, grasslands play a vital role in the global carbon cycle. However, current researches on the spatial variation (SV) of soil respiration (Rs) in grasslands faces great uncertainties. Methods The SV of Rs was analysed by obtaining Rs during the early growing season of three types of grasslands (i.e., alpine meadow, desert steppe, and typical steppe) and related impact factors at 19 sites. Results The results demonstrated that during the early growing season, the Rs of the alpine meadow was the highest, followed by the typical steppe and desert steppe. Moreover, soil temperature was the primary factor affecting the SV of Rs in desert steppe. In contrast, soil water content influenced the SV of Rs in typical steppe. This study increases our understanding of the SV of Rs during the early growing season of different grasslands. It provides an important reference for accurately estimating the SV of Rs in grasslands at various time scales.

Introduction and Objectives: Primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) may progress to clinically significant portal hypertension (CSPH) before the development of cirrhosis. This study aimed to investigate CSPH incidence as well as the clinicopathological characteristics and predictive value of these features for the prognosis of patients with PBC, especially at early histologic stage. Patients and Methods: Patients diagnosed with PBC between January 2013 and April 2022 were retrospectively enrolled. The prognostic value of baseline clinicopathological characteristics for long-term outcomes in PBC patients with CSPH was assessed using Kaplan–Meier survival analysis and COX regression analysis. Results: Among 280 patients with PBC, 104 underwent liver biopsy and 68 were at early histologic stage. CSPH was present in 47.2 % of participants with 20.6 % at early histologic stage. CSPH was a risk factor for predicting the liver transplant-free survival in PBC patients (hazard ratio [HR], 6.78; 95 % CI, 2.94–15.63), especially those at early stage. Perisinusoidal fibrosis and nodular regenerative hyperplasia (NRH) were common histopathological features in PBC patients with CSPH at the early stages. Fibrous septa formation in the hepatic lobules (HR, 4.85; 95 % CI, 1.51–15.52) and cholestasis (HR, 7.70; 95 % CI, 2.56–23.18) were independent predictors of adverse outcomes. Conclusions: CSPH indicates an increased risk of adverse outcomes in PBC patients, especially those in early histologic stage. Perisinusoidal fibrosis and NRH are valuable histological features of CSPH in patients with early-stage PBC. Identification of clinicopathological features and assessment of portal hypertension (especially at early stage), contribute to the development of personalized strategies.

Developing high‐performance, high‐stability, and low‐cost nonprecious metal catalysts to enhance the performance of zinc–air batteries (ZABs) holds significant importance. A bifunctional catalyst consisting of cobalt oxide (CoO) nanocrystals on nitrogen‐doped reduced graphene oxide nanoribbons (N‐rGONR) as a novel substrate is successfully synthesized in this work. This synthesized bifunctional catalyst exhibits mesoporous structure, and remarkable synergistic effects between CoO nanocrystals and N‐rGONR, demonstrating excellent activity and durability in both oxygen reduction reactions and oxygen evolution reactions. Notably, the resulting aqueous electrolyte ZABs show a high discharge peak power density of 196 mW cm−2, a high specific capacity of 615.9 mAh g−1, and long‐time stability for 648 h. Furthermore, the assembly of 1D and 2D flexible solid‐state ZABs fabricated using this bifunctional catalyst exhibits stable electrochemical performance, even under severe deformation. These results underscore the considerable promise of implementing the CoO@N‐rGONR catalyst structure in next‐generation advanced energy storage and conversion devices.

In low-power electronics, there is a substantial demand for high-performance p-type oxide thin-film transistors (TFTs) that are capable of efficient operation at low voltages. In this study, we employ anodization to form an aluminum oxide gate dielectric layer, enabling the fabrication of p-type tin oxide (SnO) TFTs that effectively operate at a low voltage of 1 V. Under optimal device fabrication conditions, the SnO TFT demonstrates an on/off current ratio exceeding 103 and a saturation mobility of 1.94 cm2 V−1 s−1 at 1 V operation. The optimal SnO TFT fabrication conditions are subsequently used to fabricate a complementary inverter, comprising a SnO TFT and an n-type indium gallium zinc oxide TFT, achieving a gain of up to 38 at a 1 V supply voltage. Notably, the inverter’s switching point voltage is finely tuned to the ideal value, precisely half of the supply voltage. This oxide-based complementary inverter showcases promising potential in low-power electronics.

BackgroundEsophageal cancer (ESCA) is one of the most common tumors in the world, and treatment using neoadjuvant therapy (NT) based on radiotherapy and/or chemotherapy has still unsatisfactory results. Neoadjuvant immunochemotherapy (NICT) has also become an effective treatment strategy nowadays. However, its impact on the tumor microenvironment (TME) and regulatory mechanisms on T cells and NK cells needs to be further elucidated.MethodsA total of 279 cases of ESCA who underwent surgery alone [non-neoadjuvant therapy (NONE)], neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NCT), and NICT were collected, and their therapeutic effect and survival period were compared. Further, RNA sequencing combined with biological information was used to analyze the expression of immune-related genes. Immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, and quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) were used to verify the activation and infiltration status of CD8+ T and CD16+ NK cells, as well as the function and regulatory pathway of killing tumor cells.ResultsPatients with ESCA in the NICT group showed better clinical response, median survival, and 2-year survival rates (p < 0.05) compared with the NCT group. Our RNA sequencing data revealed that NICT could promote the expression of immune-related genes. The infiltration and activation of immune cells centered with CD8+ T cells were significantly enhanced. CD8+ T cells activated by PD-1 inhibitors secreted more IFN-γ and cytotoxic effector factor cells through the transcription factor of EOMES and TBX21. At the same time, activated CD8+ T cells mediated the CD16+ NK cell activation and secreted more IFN-γ to kill ESCA cells. In addition, the immunofluorescence co-staining results showed that more CD276+ tumor cells and CD16+ NK cells were existed in pre-NCT and pre-NICT group. However, CD276+ tumor cells were reduced significantly in the post-NICT group, while they still appeared in the post-NCT group, which means that CD16+ NK cells can recognize and kill CD276+ tumor cells after immune checkpoint blocker (ICB) treatment.ConclusionNICT can improve the therapeutic effect and survival period of resectable ESCA patients. NICT could promote the expression of immune-related genes and activate CD8+ T and CD16+ NK cells to secrete more IFN-γ to kill ESCA cells. It provides a theoretical basis and clinical evidence for its potential as an NT strategy in ESCA.

Abstract Background Mahuang Fuzi decoction (MGF) is composed of three herb medicines that has been clinically used to treat inflammatory diseases for a long history. At present, more and more active phytochemicals’ aggregations have been found during the thermodynamic process of herb medicine decoction, and revealing the clinical efficacy of herb medicine through supramolecular strategies is the focus of current research. However, it is not clear whether decoction induced supermolecules’ morphological changes to modify activity. Methods Dynamic light scattering (DLS) and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) were used to analyze the micromorphology of MGF, MGF SA (MGF supermolecules), and MIX (physical mixture of MGF single decoction). The interaction and thermodynamic parameters of single herbs in a decoction were investigated by Isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC). The phytochemicals were systematically analyzed by ultra high performance liquid chromatography-Q Exactive hybrid quadrupole-orbitrap high-resolution accurate mass spectrometry (UHPLC-Q-Orbitrap HRMS). Under the safe dose on RAW264.7 cells, NO, IL-6 and TNF-α were determined by Enzyme-Linked ImmunoSorbent Assay (ELISA) method. NF-κB p65 translocation from the cytoplasm into the nucleus was examined using the immunofluorescence assay and the western blot, respectively. Furthermore, Metabolomics was used to discover potential biomarkers and the associated metabolic pathways of MGF SA treatment. Results There were nanoscale aggregations in MGF, and the micromorphology of the extracted MGF SA consisted of uniform particles; while the MIX micromorphology had no uniformity. ITC showed that the interaction MH-GC and FZ-GC were a spontaneous exothermic reaction, indicating that their phytochemicals had the property of self-assembly. Though the micromorphology between MGF, MGF SA, and MIX was obviously different, UHPLC-Q-Orbitrap HRMS results displayed that the main phytochemicals of MGF and MIX had nearly the same components. Interestingly, MGF and MGF SA could significantly inhibit the production of NO, and had better inhibition effect on the expression of nuclear protein NF-κB p65 than MIX, among which MGF SA had the best effect. Further investigation indicated that the perturbance of metabolic profiling in RAW264.7 inflammatory cells was obviously reversed by MGF SA. Conclusions The decoction enriched the key active phytochemicals and regulated the formation of homogeneous nanoparticles in MGF SA. The supermolecules in MGF SA significantly enhanced its anti-inflammatory activity, primarily affecting the NF-κB signaling pathway and the biosynthesis and metabolism of arginine in RAW264.7 inflammatory cells. Current study displayed that co-decocting herbal medicine were beneficial to the treatment of diseases than the mixture of the single herbs’ extraction. Graphical Abstract

The list-based threshold accepting (LBTA) algorithm is a sophisticated local search method that utilizes a threshold list to streamline the parameter tuning process in the traditional threshold accepting (TA) algorithm. This paper proposes an enhanced local search version of the LBTA algorithm specifically tailored for solving the 0–1 knapsack problem (0–1 KP). To maintain a dynamic threshold list, a feasible threshold updating strategy is designed to accept adaptive modifications during the search process. In addition, the algorithm incorporates an improved bit-flip operator designed to generate a neighboring solution with a controlled level of disturbance, thereby fostering exploration within the solution space. Each trial solution produced by this operator undergoes a repair phase using a hybrid greedy repair operator that incorporates both density-based and value-based add operator to facilitate optimization. The LBTA algorithm’s performance was evaluated against several state-of-the-art metaheuristic approaches on a series of large-scale instances. The simulation results demonstrate that the LBTA algorithm outperforms or is competitive with other leading metaheuristics in the field.

Background Autophagy, a crucial cellular mechanism, facilitates the degradation and removal of misfolded proteins and impaired organelles. Recent research has increasingly highlighted the intimate connection between autophagy and heat shock proteins (HSPs) in the context of tumor development. However, the specific role and underlying mechanisms of heat shock protein 90 beta family member 1 (HSP90B1) in modulating autophagy within head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) remain elusive. Methods Quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR), Western blot (WB), immunohistochemistry (IHC) were used to detect the expression in HNSC cell lines and tissues. The relationship between HSP90B1 and clinicopathologic features was explored based on TCGA (The Cancer Genome Atlas) data and IHC results. The biological functions of HSP90B1 were analyzed through in vitro and in vivo models to evaluate proliferation, migration, invasion, and autophagy. The mechanisms of HSP90B1 were studied using bioinformatics and WB. Results HSP90B1 was upregulated in HNSC cells and tissues. High HSP90B1 levels were associated with T-stage, M-stage, clinical stage, and poor prognosis in HNSC patients. Functionally, HSP90B1 promotes HNSC cell proliferation, migration, invasion and inhibits apoptosis. We discovered that HSP90B1 obstructs autophagy and advances HNSC progression through the PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway. Conclusion Our study demonstrates that HSP90B1 is highly expressed in HNSC. Furthermore, HSP90B1 may regulate autophagy through the PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway, mediating HNSC cell biological behaviors. These provide new insights into potential biomarkers and targets for HNSC therapy.

Tumor microenvironment (TME) plays an important role in the tumorigenesis, proliferation, invasion and metastasis. Thereby developing synergistic anticancer strategies with multiple mechanisms are urgent. Copper is widely used in the treatment of tumor chemodynamic therapy (CDT) due to its excellent laser-mediated photo-Fenton-like reaction. Additionally, copper can induce cell death through cuproptosis, which is a new modality different from the known death mechanisms and has great promise in tumor treatment. Herein, we report a natural small molecules carrier-free injectable hydrogel (NCTD Gel) consisted of Cu2+-mediated self-assembled glycyrrhizic acid (GA) and norcantharidin (NCTD), which are mainly governed by coordination and hydrogen bonds. Under 808 nm laser irradiation, NCTD Gel can produce reactive oxygen species (ROS), consume glutathione (GSH) and overcome hypoxia in TME, leading to synergistically regulate TME via apoptosis, cuproptosis and anti-inflammation. In addition, NCTD Gel's CDT display high selectivity and good biocompatibility as it relies on the weak acidity and H2O2 overexpression of TME. Notably, NCTD Gel's components are originated from clinical agents and its preparation process is easy, green and economical, without any excipients. This study provides a new carrier-free hydrogel synergistic antitumor strategy, which has a good prospect in industrial production and clinical transformation.

In this study, we systematically investigated the emulsifying capabilities of myofibrillar protein (MP)- and MP peptide (MPP)-based conjugates synthesized through intensification techniques: water bath (WB), microwave, ultrasound, and the combined ultrasound-microwave (UM) methods. Compared with WB, microwave, and ultrasound treatments, the combined UM treatment greatly promoted the glycation reaction because ultrasound and microwave mutually reinforced modification effects. The resultant conjugate structure tended to unfold with more flexible conformation and homogeneous morphology. Moreover, the emulsifying properties of conjugates developed with single and combined ultrasound-assisted glycation displayed substantial improvement, and pre-hydrolysis further enhanced these performances, as observed in the Principal Component Analysis as well. Remarkably, MPP grafted by maltodextrin with the assistance of a combined UM field produced the smallest and most uniform emulsion system, positioning it as the most efficient emulsifier among all the fabricated glycoconjugates. Our study highlighted the potential of synergistically applying ultrasound and microwave techniques to develop a well-performance glycation with an ideal conjugate structure, in which they would be associated into a strong film that provided the robust physical barrier, creaming stability, heat retention, and oxidation resistance. These findings offered a basis for better utilizing complex ultrasonic technology to develop novel and improved MP-based food products.

Abstract Background Sepsis is a severe complication that results in increased morbidity and mortality after intestinal obstruction surgery. This study examined the role of preoperative systemic immune inflammation index (SII) for postoperative sepsis in intestinal obstruction patients. Methods Data on patients who underwent intestinal obstruction surgery were collected. SII was determined and separated into two groups (≤1792.19 and >1792.19) according to the optimal cut‐off value of SII for postoperative sepsis. The odds ratio (OR) is calculated for the correlation between SII and postoperative sepsis. Additional analyses were used to estimate the robustness of SII. Results A total of 371 intestinal obstruction patients undergoing surgery were included in the final cohort, and 60 (16.17%) patients developed postoperative sepsis. Patients with an SII ＞1792.19 had a significantly higher risk for developing postoperative sepsis after multivariable adjustment [adjusted odds ratio = 2.12, 95% confidence interval: [1.02–4.40]]. The analysis of interaction showed no correlation between the preoperative SII and postoperative sepsis regarding age, hypertension, American Society of Anesthesiologists classification, blood loss, albumin, hemoglobin, creatinine, and leukocyte (all interactions p > .05). Abstract Aims Population-wide restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic may create barriers to mental health diagnosis. This study aims to examine changes in the number of incident cases and the incidence rates of mental health diagnoses during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods By using electronic health records from France, Germany, Italy, South Korea and the UK and claims data from the US, this study conducted interrupted time-series analyses to compare the monthly incident cases and the incidence of depressive disorders, anxiety disorders, alcohol misuse or dependence, substance misuse or dependence, bipolar disorders, personality disorders and psychoses diagnoses before (January 2017 to February 2020) and after (April 2020 to the latest available date of each database [up to November 2021]) the introduction of COVID-related restrictions. Results A total of 629,712,954 individuals were enrolled across nine databases. Following the introduction of restrictions, an immediate decline was observed in the number of incident cases of all mental health diagnoses in the US (rate ratios (RRs) ranged from 0.005 to 0.677) and in the incidence of all conditions in France, Germany, Italy and the US (RRs ranged from 0.002 to 0.422). In the UK, significant reductions were only observed in common mental illnesses. The number of incident cases and the incidence began to return to or exceed pre-pandemic levels in most countries from mid-2020 through 2021. Conclusions Healthcare providers should be prepared to deliver service adaptations to mitigate burdens directly or indirectly caused by delays in the diagnosis and treatment of mental health conditions.

Tumor-infiltrating T cells are essential players in tumor immunotherapy. Great progress has been achieved in the investigation of T cell heterogeneity. However, little is well known about the shared characteristics of tumor-infiltrating T cells across cancers. In this study, we conduct a pan-cancer analysis of 349,799 T cells across 15 cancers. The results show that the same T cell types had similar expression patterns regulated by specific transcription factor (TF) regulons across cancers. Multiple T cell type transition paths were consistent in cancers. We found that TF regulons associated with CD8+ T cells transitioned to terminally differentiated effector memory (Temra) or exhausted (Tex) states were associated with patient clinical classification. We also observed universal activated cell-cell interaction pathways of tumor-infiltrating T cells in all cancers, some of which specifically mediated crosstalk in certain cell types. Moreover, consistent characteristics of TCRs in the aspect of variable and joining region genes were found across cancers. Overall, our study reveals common features of tumor-infiltrating T cells in different cancers and suggests future avenues for rational, targeted immunotherapies.

Groundwater contaminated by benzene and toluene is a common issue, posing a threat to the ecosystems and human health. The removal of benzene and toluene under sulfate-reducing condition is well known, but how the bacterial community shifts during this process remains unclear. This study aims to evaluate the shift in bacterial community structure during the biodegradation of benzene and toluene under sulfate-reducing condition. In this study, groundwater contaminated with benzene and toluene were collected from the field and used to construct three artificial samples: Control (benzene 50 mg/L, toluene 1.24 mg/L, sulfate 470 mg/L, and HgCl2 250 mg/L), S1 (benzene 50 mg/L, toluene 1.24 mg/L, sulfate 470 mg/L), and S2 (benzene 100 mg/L, toluene 2.5 mg/L, sulfate 940 mg/L). The contaminants (benzene and toluene), geochemical parameters (sulfate, ORP, and pH), and bacterial community structure in the artificial samples were monitored over time. By the end of this study (day 90), approximately 99% of benzene and 96% of toluene could be eliminated in both S1 and S2 artificial samples, while in the Control artificial sample the contaminant levels remained unchanged due to microbial inactivation. The richness of bacterial communities initially decreased but subsequently increased over time in both S1 and S2 artificial samples. Under sulfate-reducing condition, key players in benzene and toluene degradation were identified as Pseudomonas, Janthinobacterium, Novosphingobium, Staphylococcus, and Bradyrhizobium. The results could provide scientific basis for remediation and risk management strategies at the benzene and toluene contaminated sites.

Abstract Background Coronavirus disease 2019 is a type of acute infectious pneumonia and frequently confused with influenza since the initial symptoms. When the virus colonized the patient's mouth, it will cause changes of the oral microenvironment. However, few studies on the alterations of metabolism of the oral microenvironment affected by SARS-CoV-2 infection have been reported. In this study, we explored metabolic alterations of oral microenvironment after SARS-CoV-2 infection. Methods Untargeted metabolomics (UPLC-MS) was used to investigate the metabolic changes between oral secretion samples of 25 COVID-19 and 30 control participants. To obtain the specific metabolic changes of COVID-19, we selected 25 influenza patients to exclude the metabolic changes caused by the stress response of the immune system to the virus. Multivariate analysis (PCA and PLS-DA plots) and univariate analysis (students’ t-test) were used to compare the differences between COVID-19 patients and the controls. Online hiplot tool was used to perform heatmap analysis. Metabolic pathway analysis was conducted by using the MetaboAnalyst 5.0 web application. Results PLS-DA plots showed significant separation of COVID-19 patients and the controls. A total of 45 differential metabolites between COVID-19 and control group were identified. Among them, 35 metabolites were defined as SARS-CoV-2 specific differential metabolites. Especially, the levels of cis-5,8,11,14,17-eicosapentaenoic acid and hexanoic acid changed dramatically based on the FC values. Pathway enrichment found the most significant pathways were tyrosine-related metabolism. Further, we found 10 differential metabolites caused by the virus indicating the body’s metabolism changes after viral stimulation. Moreover, adenine and adenosine were defined as influenza virus-specific differential metabolites. Conclusions This study revealed that 35 metabolites and tyrosine-related metabolism pathways were significantly changed after SARS-CoV-2 infection. The metabolic alterations of oral microenvironment in COVID-19 provided new insights into its molecular mechanisms for research and prognostic treatment.

Abstract Through the self-assembled strategy to improve the clinical efficacy of the existing drugs is the focus of current research. Herbal formula granule is a kind of modern dosage form of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) which has sprung up in recent decades. However, whether it is equivalent to the TCM decoction that has been used for thousands of years has always been a controversial issue. In this paper, taking the herb pair of Coptidis Rhizoma—Scutellariae Radix and its main component berberine—baicalin as examples, the differences and mechanisms of self-assemblies originated from the co-decoction and physical mixture were studied, respectively. Moreover, the relationship between the morphology and antibacterial effects of self-assemblies was illuminated via multi-technology. Our study revealed that the physical mixture’s morphology of both the herb pair and the phytochemicals was nanofibers (NFs), while their co-decoction’s morphology was nanospheres (NPs). We also found that the antibacterial activity was enhanced with the change of self-assemblies’ morphology after the driving by thermal energy. This might be attributed to that NPs could influence amino acid biosynthesis and metabolism in bacteria. Current study provides a basis that co-decoction maybe beneficial to enhance activity and reasonable use of herbal formula granule in clinic.

Semi-continuous anaerobic digestion (AD) of food waste (FW) was conducted by solar intelligent control system to explore the impact of temperature fluctuation on microorganisms and its engineering applicability. According to analysis of the AD system at different organic loading rate (OLR), introduction of the solar intelligent control system into AD could save electric energy. Temperature fluctuation caused by climate and other factors reduced methane production by 31.79%. Before reaching the optimum OLR, the methane yield increased with the promotion of OLR and was at the optimum when OLR = 4.5 kg ⋅ m−3 ⋅ d−1. Enzyme activities changed with the change of pH. Lower pH limited the enzyme activities. At the initial stage of the reaction, Clostridium and Lactobacillus dominated, which made content of amylase and lipase reach 264.07 U/mL (solar group), 331.02 U/mL (electric group), and 276.44 U/mL (solar group), 306.75 U/mL (electric group), respectively. Temperature fluctuation brought in by the solar intelligent control system had a great effect on microbial activity. Microbial community structure was influenced by the OLR change. Methanobacterium became the main methanogenic bacterium at the middle and late stage. After analysis, it is feasible to introduce solar energy into AD.

Abstract Purpose To explore the methane production potential and microbial community changes of combined anaerobic digestion of chicken manure and corn straw. Increase methane production, reduce the environmental pollution caused by the burning of livestock manure and straw, and provide some theoretical references for the construction and operation of actual biogas projects. Methods Different proportions (3%, 5%, 10%) of corn straw were added to the anaerobic digestion systems of chicken manure in order to improve the C/N ratio and to evaluate the feasibility and potential synergistic effect on the co-digestion. The key point was to use 16S rDNA sequencing to analyze the relationship between the microbial diversity and the hydrolase activity during the anaerobic digestion. Result The results showed that the volumetric gas production of methane in the 3% straw addition group was 227.66 ml/gVS, which was 18% higher than the cumulative methane production in the pure chicken manure experimental group. However, with the increase of straw concentration, methane production and the utilization rate of the raw materials continued to decrease. The change in activity of each hydrolase was in agreement with changes in hydrolytic acidifying bacteria, and the activity of the main hydrolase also increased with the addition of straw; the correlation coefficient was 0.9943. Sequencing results showed that the dominant strains of methanogenic archaea were Methanosarcina, Methanosaeta, Methanobacterium, and Methanospirillum. Mainly for hydrogen-eating, acetic acid-eating methanogens, its role is to use H2, methanol and acetic acid, and other substances to metabolize methane, and convert it into CH4 and CO2. Conclusion The addition of a small amount of straw enhanced the production capacity of hydrogen-nutritive methane to some extent, and the species richness and evenness were also improved, reducing the pollution caused by livestock manure to the environment while controlling the pollution caused by straw burning. Nonheading Chinese cabbage is an important leafy vegetable, and quantitative identification and automated analysis of nonheading Chinese cabbage leaves are crucial for cultivating new varieties with higher quality, yield, and resistance. Traditional leaf phenotypic analysis relies mainly on phenotypic observation and the practical experience of breeders, leading to issues such as time consumption, labor intensity, and low precision, which result in low breeding efficiency. Considering these issues, a method for the extraction and analysis of phenotypes of nonheading Chinese cabbage leaves is proposed, targeting four qualitative traits and ten quantitative traits from 1500 samples, by integrating deep learning and OpenCV image processing technology. First, a leaf classification model is trained using YOLOv8 to infer the qualitative traits of the leaves, followed by the extraction and calculation of the quantitative traits of the leaves using OpenCV image processing technology. The results indicate that the model achieved an average accuracy of 95.25%, an average precision of 96.09%, an average recall rate of 96.31%, and an average F1 score of 0.9620 for the four qualitative traits. From the ten quantitative traits, the OpenCV-calculated values for the whole leaf length, leaf width, and total leaf area were compared with manually measured values, showing RMSEs of 0.19 cm, 0.1762 cm, and 0.2161 cm2, respectively. Bland–Altman analysis indicated that the error values were all within the 95% confidence intervals, and the average detection time per image was 269 ms. This method achieved good results in the extraction of phenotypic traits from nonheading Chinese cabbage leaves, significantly reducing the personpower and time costs associated with genetic resource analysis. This approach provides a new technique for the analysis of nonheading Chinese cabbage genetic resources that is high-throughput, precise, and automated.

Background Sterol-regulatory element-binding protein 1 (SREBP1) is a transcription factor involved in lipid metabolism that is encoded by sterol regulatory element binding transcription factor 1(SREBF1). SREBP1 overexpression is associated with the progression of several human tumors; however, the role of SREBP1 in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSC) remains unclear. Methods SREBF1 expression in pan-cancer was analyzed using the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and Genotype-Tissue Expression (GTEx) data, and the association between SREBF1 expression and clinical characteristics of HNSC patients was examined using the UALCAN database. Enrichment analysis of SREBF1-related genes was performed using the Cluster Profiler R package. TCGA database was used to investigate the relationship between immune cell infiltration and SREBF1 expression. CCK-8, flow cytometry, and wound healing assays were performed to investigate the effect of SREBF1 knockdown on the proliferation and migration of HNSC cells. Results SREBF1 was significantly upregulated in several tumor tissues, including HNSC, and SREBF1 overexpression was positively correlated with sample type, cancer stage, tumor grade, and lymph node stage in HNSC patients. Gene enrichment analysis revealed that SREBF1 is associated with DNA replication and homologous recombination. SREBF1 upregulation was positively correlated with the infiltration of cytotoxic cells, B cells, T cells, T helper cells, and NK CD56 bright cells in HNSC. Knockdown of SREBF1 inhibited the proliferation and migration of HNSC cells (Hep2 and TU212) and induced apoptosis by downregulating the expression of steroidogenic acute regulatory protein-related lipid transfer 4 (STARD4). Conclusions SREBF1 may promote HNSC proliferation, migration and inhibit apoptosis by upregulating STARD4 and affecting the level of immune cell infiltration.

The campus courtyards in the Lingnan area are commonly used spaces. Therefore, their thermal comfort is highly important for improving user satisfaction. This study conducted field research on 18 courtyards in four universities in Lingnan to explore the effects of their architectural design factors on the thermal environment. Relevant studies have proved that courtyards are cost-effective in microclimate regulation, and individual factors such as the scale and openness of the courtyards have also been shown to have an effect on the thermal comfort of the courtyards. This study synthesizes multidimensional architectural design factors to explore and analyze the thermal environments of college courtyards. Physiologically equivalent temperature (PET) is selected as the thermal comfort evaluation index for the study and the conclusions are as follows: (1) The thermal environment is the most important factor influencing visitors to the courtyards (22%), and good thermal comfort improves the efficiency of using the college courtyards; (2) the courtyards have a positive microclimate regulating function, and a cooling effect occurs in 80% of them; and (3) the floor location, type, orientation, and sky view factor (SVF) of the courtyards are the main design factors affecting the thermal environment and PET. The first three factors were negatively correlated with PET (p < 0.05),and SVF was positively correlated with PET (p = 0.651). Passive courtyard design strategies are presented based on the findings of this study.

Abstract Background Oral administration of insulin (INS) could be absorbed into systemic circulation only if the carrier protected it from the hostile gastrointestinal conditions. However, traditional macromolecular carriers have not totally overcome challenges in addressing these biological barriers. Result In this study, inspired by small molecule natural products (SMNPs), we demonstrate the multi-functional self-assembly nanoparticles (BA-Al NPs) originating from baicalin (BA) and AlCl3 through coordination bonds and hydrogen bonds. As a novel carrier for oral insulin delivery (INS@BA-Al NPs), it displayed effective capacity in pH stimuli-responsive insulin release, intestinal mucoadhesion and transepithelial absorption enhance. Meanwhile, BA improved the paracellular permeability for insulin absorption, because of its downregulation at both mRNA and protein level on internal tight junction proteins. In vivo experiments exhibited remarkable bioavailability of INS and an ideal glucose homeostasis in the type I diabetic rat model. Conclusion This study offers a novel frontier of multi-functional carriers based on SMNPs with self-assembly character and bioactivity, which could be a promising strategy for diabetes therapy. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) act as regulators of plant development and multiple stress responses. Here we demonstrate that the rice miR171b-SCL6-IIs module regulates the balance between blast resistance, grain yield, and flowering. miR171b-overexpressing rice plants (OX171b) displayed increased rice blast resistance accompanied with enhanced defense responses and late heading, whereas blocking miR171b expression in rice (MIM171) led to greater susceptibility to blast disease, associated with compromised defense responses and early heading. Either overexpressing or silencing of miR171b significantly affected plant height and number of filled seeds per panicle (seed-setting rate), resulting in decreased grain yield. miR171b targets SCL6-IIa, SCL6-IIb, and SCL6-IIc, whose expression was suppressed in OX171b but increased in MIM171. Mutants of SCL6-IIa, SCL6-IIb, and SCL6-IIc all displayed phenotypes like that of OX171b, including markedly increased blast disease resistance, slightly decreased grain yield, and delayed flowering. Amounts of miR171b increased gradually in leaves during the vegetative stage but decreased gradually in panicles during the reproductive stage, whereas SCL6-IIs displayed the reverse expression pattern. Together, these results suggest that the expression of miR171b was time- and space-dependent during the rice growth period and regulated the balance between rice blast disease resistance, grain yield, and flowering via SCL6-IIs, and that appropriate accumulation of miR171b is essential for rice development.

Abstract Oxide semiconductor thin‐film transistors (TFTs) with low‐voltage operation, excellent device performance, and bias stability are highly desirable for portable and wearable electronics. Here, the development of low‐voltage indium‐tin‐zinc‐oxide (ITZO) TFTs with excellent device performance and bias stability based on a dual‐channel layer and an anodic‐oxide dielectric layer are reported. An ultra‐thin anodic AlxOy film as a gate dielectric layer is prepared using an anodization process. The dual‐channel layer consists of an oxygen‐uncompensated channel layer and an oxygen‐compensated capping layer. It is confirmed that the dual‐channel structure is effective for enhancing device performance and bias stability in comparison with the single‐channel structure. As a result, the dual‐channel ITZO TFT gated with anodic AlxOy exhibits an effective saturation mobility of 12.56 cm2 Vs−1, a threshold voltage of 0.28 V, a subthreshold swing of 76 mV dec−1, a low‐voltage operation of 1 V, and good operational stability (threshold voltage shift (ΔVTH)

Abstract Purpose Resting metabolic rate (RMR) could represent metabolic health status. This study aims to examine the association of the predicted RMR with 1‐year poor functional outcome and all‐cause mortality in patients with ischemic stroke as a proxy of metabolic profile. Methods A total of 15,166 patients with ischemic stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA) from the Third China National Stroke Registry (CNSR‐III) were enrolled in this study. The Harris–Benedict equation based on sex, age, weight, and height was used to predict RMR. The primary endpoints were poor functional outcome defined as ≥3 modified Rankin Scale (mRS) score and all‐cause mortality within 1 year. The association between predicted RMR and prognosis was assessed by multivariable regression analysis. Besides that, subgroup analysis of age, sex, and body mass index (BMI) with predicted RMR was also performed. Results 12.85% (1657) individuals had poor functional outcome and 2.87% (380) died of whatever causes within 1 year. An inverse association was found between predicted RMR with poor functional outcome and all‐cause mortality. Compared to the lowest quartile, the highest quartile was significantly associated with lower risk of poor functional outcome (adjusted odds ratio [OR], 0.43 [95% confidence interval (CI) 0.33–0.56]) and all‐cause mortality (adjusted hazard ratio [HR], 0.44 [95% CI 0.28–0.71]). No significant interaction was between predicted RMR and specified subgroup. Conclusions Predicted RMR by the Harris–Benedict equation seems to be an independent protective predictor of poor functional outcome and all‐cause mortality after ischemic stroke as a metabolic proxy.

A cadmium (Cd) tolerance protein (SpCTP3) involved in the Sedum plumbizincicola response to Cd stress was identified. However, the mechanism underlying the Cd detoxification and accumulation mediated by SpCTP3 in plants remains unclear. We compared wild-type (WT) and SpCTP3-overexpressing transgenic poplars in terms of Cd accumulation, physiological indices, and the expression profiles of transporter genes following with 100 μmol/L CdCl2. Compared with the WT, significantly more Cd accumulated in the above-ground and below-ground parts of the SpCTP3-overexpressing lines after 100 μmol/L CdCl2 treatment. The Cd flow rate was significantly higher in the transgenic roots than in the WT roots. The overexpression of SpCTP3 resulted in the subcellular redistribution of Cd, with decreased and increased Cd proportions in the cell wall and the soluble fraction, respectively, in the roots and leaves. Additionally, the accumulation of Cd increased the reactive oxygen species (ROS) content. The activities of three antioxidant enzymes (peroxidase, catalase, and superoxide dismutase) increased significantly in response to Cd stress. The observed increase in the titratable acid content in the cytoplasm might lead to the enhanced chelation of Cd. The genes encoding several transporters related to Cd2+ transport and detoxification were expressed at higher levels in the transgenic poplars than in the WT plants. Our results suggest that overexpressing SpCTP3 in transgenic poplar plants promotes Cd accumulation, modulates Cd distribution and ROS homeostasis, and decreases Cd toxicity via organic acids. In conclusion, genetically modifying plants to overexpress SpCTP3 may be a viable strategy for improving the phytoremediation of Cd-polluted soil.

Abstract For the first time, a polyethyleneimine-impregnated alginate capsule (PEIIAC) with a high adsorption capacity is developed for the recovery of monovalent and trivalent gold from an acidic solution. The strategy results in a new type of adsorbent, polyethyleneimine impregnated alginate capsule (PEIIAC) with a core–shell structure having a large number of amine groups as cationic binding site, facilitating maximum uptake of anionic auric chloride. The maximum uptake of PEIIAC was 3078 and 929 mg/g for Au (III) and Au (I), respectively, are recordable compared to other reported adsorbents to date. The as-prepared material was executed to check the sorption efficacy for Au (III) and Au (I) in the pH range of 1–12. With an increment in pH, the uptake capacity for Au (III) increased, while the uptake capacity for Au (I) decreased. The FTIR, XRD, and XPS studies revealed that the gold adsorption mechanism includes ionic interactions and reduction, wherein the amine, hydroxyl, and carboxyl groups are involved. The capsule showed a higher adsorption efficiency than other reported sorbents, making the material applicable in acidic solutions for the recovery of Au (I) and Au (III).

Abstract Given the chronic inflammatory nature of Parkinson’s disease (PD), T cell immunity may be important for disease onset. Here, we performed single-cell transcriptome and TCR sequencing, and conducted integrative analyses to decode composition, function and lineage relationship of T cells in the blood and cerebrospinal fluid of PD. Combined expression and TCR-based lineage tracking, we discovered a large population of CD8+ T cells showing continuous progression from central memory to terminal effector T cells in PD patients. Additionally, we identified a group of cytotoxic CD4+ T cells (CD4 CTLs) remarkably expanded in PD patients, which derived from Th1 cells by TCR-based fate decision. Finally, we screened putative TCR–antigen pairs that existed in both blood and cerebrospinal fluid of PD patients to provide potential evidence for peripheral T cells to participate in neuronal degeneration. Our study provides valuable insights and rich resources for understanding the adaptive immune response in PD.

Petrochemical excess sludge, as hazardous solid waste, poses a great threat to the environment and is difficult to dispose of in an economic and environmentally friendly way. A new alternative of using the petrochemical excess sludge to prepare ceramsite is proposed. The relationship between the sintering behavior of dried excess sludge, including the composition, temperature, fluxing agent, and pore-forming agent addition, and the properties of ceramsite is investigated. The properties of ceramsite are primarily affected by the sintering temperature and the addition of a fluxing agent. Ceramsite with a sintering-expanded surface is prepared. Also, its water absorption is quite low, indicating an improvement in densification due to sintering. Moreover, the leaching toxicity of the heavy metals in the dried excess sludge and prepared ceramsite is also investigated. It reveals the feasibility of ceramsite preparation by sintering petrochemical excess sludge.

Metastasis-associated lung adenocarcinoma transcript 1 (MALAT1) belongs to the long non-coding RNA (LncRNA) family. LncRNA-MALAT1 is expressed in a variety of tissues and is involved in a variety of diseases and biological processes. Although LncRNA-MALAT1 is upregulated in a high-glucose microenvironment and may participate in odontogenic differentiation, the underlying mechanism is not yet well elucidated. Here, we show that MALAT1 was mainly expressed in the cytoplasm of dental pulp cells (DPCs) in situ hybridization. In addition, high levels of mineralization-related factors, namely, tumor growth factors β 1 and 2 (TGFβ-1 and TGFβ-2), bone morphogenetic proteins 2 and 4 (BMP2 and BMP4), bone morphogenetic protein receptor 1 (BMPR1), SMAD family member 2 (SMAD2), runt-related transcription factor 2 (RUNX2), Msh homeobox 2 (MSX2), transcription factor SP7 (SP7), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), dentin matrix acidic phosphoprotein 1 (DMP1), and dentin sialophosphoprotein (DSPP), were expressed, and MALAT1 was significantly overexpressed in DPCs 7 and 14 days after mineralization induction in a high-glucose microenvironment, but only TGFβ-1, BMP2, MSX2, SP7, ALP, and DSPP were significantly downregulated in DPCs after MALAT1 inhibition. MALAT1 may participate in the mineralization process of DPCs by regulating multiple factors (TGFβ-1, BMP2, MSX2, SP7, ALP, and DSPP).

Abstract Backgroud Cancer stemness is associated with metastases in kidney renal clear cell carcinoma (KIRC) and negatively correlates with immune infiltrates. Recent stemness evaluation methods based on the absolute expression have been proposed to reveal the relationship between stemness and cancer. However, we found that existing methods do not perform well in assessing the stemness of KIRC patients, and they overlooked the impact of alternative splicing. Alternative splicing not only progresses during the differentiation of stem cells, but also changes during the acquisition of the stemness features of cancer stem cells. There is an urgent need for a new method to predict KIRC-specific stemness more accurately, so as to provide help in selecting treatment options. Methods The corresponding RNA-Seq data were obtained from the The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) data portal. We also downloaded stem cell RNA sequence data from the Progenitor Cell Biology Consortium (PCBC) Synapse Portal. Independent validation sets with large sample size and common clinic pathological characteristics were obtained from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database. we constructed a KIRC-specific stemness prediction model using an algorithm called one-class logistic regression based on the expression and alternative splicing data to predict stemness indices of KIRC patients, and the model was externally validated. We identify stemness-associated alternative splicing events (SASEs) by analyzing different alternative splicing event between high- and low- stemness groups. Univariate Cox and multivariable logistic regression analysisw as carried out to detect the prognosis-related SASEs respectively. The area under curve (AUC) of receiver operating characteristic (ROC) was performed to evaluate the predictive values of our model. Results Here, we constructed a KIRC-specific stemness prediction model with an AUC of 0.968,and to provide a user-friendly interface of our model for KIRC stemness analysis, we have developed KIRC Stemness Calculator and Visualization (KSCV), hosted on the Shiny server, can most easily be accessed via web browser and the url https://jiang-lab.shinyapps.io/kscv/ . When applied to 605 KIRC patients, our stemness indices had a higher correlation with the gender, smoking history and metastasis of the patients than the previous stemness indices, and revealed intratumor heterogeneity at the stemness level. We identified 77 novel SASEs by dividing patients into high- and low- stemness groups with significantly different outcome and they had significant correlations with expression of 17 experimentally validated splicing factors. Both univariate and multivariate survival analysis demonstrated that SASEs closely correlated with the overall survival of patients. Conclusions Basing on the stemness indices, we found that not only immune infiltration but also alternative splicing events showed significant different at the stemness level. More importantly, we highlight the critical role of these differential alternative splicing events in poor prognosis, and we believe in the potential for their further translation into targets for immunotherapy.

Deep learning text detection is generally divided into two steps: prediction candidate box of depth model and post-processing, and post-processing usually uses NMS or prediction box to merge and connect. At present, many methods of text detection can detect the character position of the document image, but they are often not accurate enough, which affects the effect of subsequent recognition. To solve the problem of inaccurate detection, this article proposes a post-processing method of document detection based on geometric features from the perspective of post-processing. The post-processing method is mainly divided into four modules. Firstly, the background removal (BR) module separates the background information and character information through pixel threshold. Secondly, the candidate box expansion (CBE) module expands the prediction box in all directions by judging whether the boundary of the prediction box is in the character pixel. Then is the non-standard box removal (NBR) module, using the consistency principle of characters and surrounding characters to filter out the error detection of some prediction boxes. Finally, the module of repeating box removal (RBR) is used to remove the repeated prediction box. In order to verify the effectiveness of this method, a large number of experiments have been conducted on Standard yi, Chinese2k, English2k, ICDAR 2015 and ICDAR 2017(CTW-12k) datasets. The experimental results show that the method proposed in this article can improve the effect of text detection.

Bitumen, an unconventional crude oil, has received much attention with the increasing consumption and the shrinking storage of conventional crude oils. Bitumen is highly viscous and, thus, is commonly diluted for transportation purposes. Spills of diluted bitumen could occur during the transportation from reservoirs to refineries via pipeline, rail, and marine vessels. Although some laboratory and numerical modeling studies have been contributed to study the spill of diluted bitumen from different aspects, there is no systematic review in the field yet. Therefore, this study first conducted a review on different types of diluted bitumen based on their physicochemical properties, followed by their weathering processes including spreading, evaporation, emulsification, photooxidation, biodegradation, and sinking. Second, the numerical modeling on the fate and behavior of spilled diluted bitumen was summarized and analyzed. Finally, the techniques for spilled oil recovery were discussed, as well as the disposal/treatment of oily waste. Currently, a rare attempt has been made to turn the recovered oily waste into wealth (reutilization/valorization of oily waste). Using the recovered oily waste as the feedstock/processing medium for an emerging thermochemical conversion technique (hydrothermal liquefaction of biomass for crude bio-oil production) is highly recommended. Overall, this article summarized the state-of-the-art knowledge of the spill of diluted bitumen, with the hope to create a deep and systematic understanding on the spill of diluted bitumen for researchers, relevant companies, and decision makers.

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is one of the deadliest malignancies. Gemcitabine is the most commonly used chemotherapy for the treatment of PDAC, but the development of drug resistance still remains challenging. Recently, exosomes have emerged as important mediators for intercellular communication. Exosomes affect recipient cells’ behavior through the engulfed cargos, however the specific cargos responsible for gemcitabine resistance in PDAC are poorly understood. Here, we reported that exosomes could transfer gemcitabine resistance via a metalloproteinase 14 (MMP14)-dependent mechanism. MMP14 was identified as a major differentially secreted protein from the gemcitabine-resistant PDAC cells by comparative secretome. It was packaged into the exosomes and transmitted from the chemoresistant cells to the sensitive ones. The exosome-transferred MMP14 could enhance drug resistance and promotes the sphere-formation and migration abilities of the recipient sensitive PDAC cells. Mechanically, exosome-transferred MMP14 promotes the stability of CD44, the cancer stem cell marker in the recipient cells. Our results indicate that MMP14 is a key player for exosome-mediated transfer of gemcitabine resistance, thus targeting MMP14 in exosomes may represent a novel strategy to limit gemcitabine resistance in PDAC.

Immune system plays important roles in the pathogenesis of Parkinson’s disease (PD). However, the role of B cells in this complex disease are still not fully understood. B cells produce antibodies but can also regulate immune responses. In order to decode the relative contribution of peripheral B cell subtypes to the etiology of PD, we performed single cell RNA and BCR sequencing for 10,466 B cells from 8 PD patients and 6 age-matched healthy controls. We observed significant increased memory B cells and significant decreased naïve B cells in PD patients compared to healthy controls. Notably, we also discovered increased IgG and IgA isotypes and more frequent class switch recombination events in PD patients. Moreover, we identified preferential V and J gene segments of B cell receptors in PD patients as the evidence of convergent selection in PD. Finally, we found a marked clonal expanded memory B cell population in PD patients, up-regulating both MHC II genes (HLA-DRB5, HLA-DQA2 and HLA-DPB1) and transcription factor activator protein 1 (AP-1), suggesting that the antigen presentation capacity of B cells was enhanced and B cells were activated in PD patients. Overall, this study conducted a comprehensive analysis of peripheral B cell characteristics of PD patients, which provided novel insights into the humoral immune response in the pathogenesis of PD.

BackgroundGenes spanning long chromosomal domains are coordinately regulated in human genome, which contribute to global gene dysregulation and carcinogenesis in cancer. It has been noticed that epigenetic modification and chromatin architecture may participate in the regulation process. However, the regulation patterns and functional elements of long-range gene regulation are unclear.MethodsBased on the clinical transcriptome data from different tumor sets, a novel expressional correlation analysis pipeline was performed to classify the co-regulated regions and subsets of intercorrelated regions. The GLAM2 program was used to predict conserved DNA elements that enriched in regions. Two conserved elements were selected to delete in Ishikawa and HeLa cells by CRISPR-Cas9. SAHA treatment and HDAC knockdown were used to change the histone acetylation status. Using qPCR, MTT, and scratch healing assay, we evaluate the effect on gene expression and cancer cell phenotype. By DNA pull-down and ChIP, the element-binding proteins were testified. 3C and 3D-FISH were performed to depict the alteration in chromatin architecture.ResultsIn multiple cancer genomes, we classified subsets of coordinately regulated regions (sub-CRRs) that possibly shared the same regulatory mechanisms and exhibited similar expression patterns. A new conserved DNA element (CRE30) was enriched in sub-CRRs and associated with cancer patient survival. CRE30 could restrict gene regulation in sub-CRRs and affect cancer cell phenotypes. DNA pull-down showed that multiple proteins including CTCF were recruited on the CRE30 locus, and ChIP assay confirmed the CTCF-binding signals. Subsequent results uncovered that as an essential element, CRE30 maintained chromatin loops and mediated a compact chromatin architecture. Moreover, we found that blocking global histone deacetylation induced chromatin loop disruption and CTCF dropping in the region containing CRE30, linked to promoted gene regulation. Additionally, similar effects were observed with CRE30 deletion in another locus of chromosome 8.ConclusionsOur research clarified a new functional element that recruits CTCF and collaborates with histone deacetylation to maintain high-order chromatin organizations, linking to long-range gene regulation in cancer genomes. The findings highlight a close relationship among conserved DNA element, epigenetic modification, and chromatin architecture in long-range gene regulation process.

Promoting the growth of plants and improving plant stress-resistance by plant growth-promoting microorganism increasingly become a hotpot. While, most researchers focus on their supply role of nutrition or plant hormone. In this study, a novel mechanism that phosphate solubilizing microorganisms promoted plant growth under saline-alkali stress through secretion of organic acids, was proposed. The effects of desulfurization gypsum, humic acid, organic fertilizer and phosphate-solubilizing microorganism Penicillium funicuiosum P1 (KX400570) on the growth of quinoa (Chenopodium quinoa cv. Longli 1), showed that the survival rate, stem length and dry weight of quinoa treated with P1 were 2.5, 1.5, 1 and 1.5 times higher than those of sterile water (CK) under severe saline-alkali stress. The growth-promoting effect of P1 on quinoa was much better than that of other treatment groups. In addition, P1 promoted the growth of quinoa because the organic acids (malic acid, citric acid, succinic acid, etc.) from P1 stimulated the antioxidant system and promote the photosynthesis of quinoa, further promote quinoa growth.

Building upon the prosodic transfer hypothesis, the current study aims to examine the intermediary effect of English stress on the relation between Chinese lexical tone awareness and English word-level literacy (reading and spelling) as well as the moderating effect of English oral vocabulary proficiency on the cross-linguistic association. Grade 4 Chinese learners of English (N = 224) participated in this study and were assessed for their tone and stress sensitivity, English oral vocabulary, English word reading, and English word spelling. Mediated multivariate analyses with moderation were used to explore: (1) whether the influence of lexical tone perception on L2 word reading and spelling was mediated by English stress as posited in the prosodic transfer hypothesis; (2) whether the effects of tone on English word reading and spelling performance varied as a function of oral vocabulary levels. The findings revealed a direct positive relationship between Chinese tone and English word reading and spelling, and the relationship was mediated by English stress awareness. Furthermore, the direct pathway from tone to English word-level literacy skills were moderated by oral vocabulary and the relationship between tone and English word-level skills became stronger as oral vocabulary levels increased; however, such strength reached a plateau among children without adequate oral vocabulary skills. These findings suggest the necessity to incorporate word spelling as an outcome in the cross-suprasegmental phonological transfer models of early literacy development. Additionally, the current study endorses the complexity of cross-language prosodic transfer. It points to a precise threshold for sufficient L2 oral vocabulary skills to enable tone transfer in English word-level literacy attainment.

Although accumulating evidence has demonstrated the key roles of enhancers in gene expression regulation, the contribution of genome-wide enhancer-enhancer interactions to developmental decisions remains unclear. Here we explored the cooperative regulation patterns among enhancers to understand their regulatory mechanism. We first filtered robust enhancers in embryonic stem cells (ESCs) through integrating bidirectional transcription, genomic location, and epigenetic modification. Genome-wide enhancer-enhancer interactions were then identified based on enhancer-promoter relationships that were derived from Hi-C data. We further explored the interacting principles of the identified enhancer-enhancer interactions. The results revealed that the observed cooperativity occurred mainly between enhancers distributed within a 1-kb to 10-Mb distance across the genome. In addition, enhancer-enhancer pairs had higher expression correlations than non-interacting pairs. Finally, we identified robust enhancers during human cardiac commitment, and we found that enhancers exhibited strong stage-specific expression patterns. We further inferred the enhancer-enhancer interactions based on RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) data in heart development, according to the regulatory principles characterized from Hi-C data. The identified enhancer-enhancer interaction networks (EEINs) presented highly dynamic linkages. Moreover, enhancers cooperatively targeted many marker genes in each developmental stage to regulate stage-specific functions, which contribute to the organization of cell identity in heart development. Abstract Background After root canal treatment, most tooth defects need to be restored. Onlay restoration is widely used to restore dental defects. Endocrown is a new type of onlay; however, dentists have yet to obtain a full understanding of the clinical effects of marginal forms of endocrowns. Here, we present a multicenter protocol to compare the clinical efficacy of two marginal forms (flat and 90-degree shoulder) for tooth restoration. The efficacy will be evaluated by marginal fit, marginal discoloration, and integrity of restoration. Methods The proposed flat and 90-degree shoulder marginal endocrown assessment trial is an open-label, parallel-group, multicenter randomized controlled trial involving two hospitals. A total of 200 patients will be included in this trial, and the following patient inclusion criteria will be applied: good oral hygiene habits, no periodontal diseases, receipt of standard root canal treatment, and need for endocrown restoration. Patients will be enrolled after providing signed informed consent and will be divided into two groups (flat and 90-degree shoulder endocrown) in accordance with a random number table. Treatment allocation will be balanced (1:1). Endocrowns will be cemented by dual-cured luting composite. Clinical evaluations will be performed at baseline and at 24 months after treatment in accordance with modified US Public Health Service criteria by two independent evaluators. The primary outcome will be marginal fit; secondary outcome measures will include debonding, marginal discoloration, and integrity of restoration. All acquired data will be analyzed by an independent statistician. Wilcoxon one-sample tests will be used for intra-group comparisons, and Wilcoxon two-sample tests will be used for inter-group comparisons. The Bonferroni method will be used to correct for multiple comparisons, and hierarchical logistic regression will be applied to determine central effects. Discussion The results of this trial will provide a clinical basis for clinicians to restore teeth by endocrowns and to improve long-term restoration for patients. We prepared a series of one-dimensional conjugated-material-based nanofibers with different morphologies and donor/acceptor (D/A) compositions by electrospinning for efficient photocatalytic hydrogen evolution. It was found that homogeneous D/A heterojunction nanofibers can be obtained by electrospinning, and the donor/acceptor ratio can be easily controlled. Compared with the single-component-based nanofibers, the D/A-based nanofibers showed a 34-fold increase in photocatalytic efficiency, attributed to the enhanced exciton dissociation in the nanofibrillar body. In addition, the photocatalytic activity of these nanofibers can be easily optimized by modulating the diameter. The results show that the diameter of the nanofibers can be conveniently controlled by the electrospinning feed rate, and the photocatalytic effect increases with decreasing fiber diameter. Consequently, the nanofibers with the smallest diameter exhibit the most efficient photocatalytic hydrogen evolution, with the highest release rate of 24.38 mmol/(gh). This work provides preliminary evidence of the advantages of the electrospinning strategy in the construction of D/A nanofibers with controlled morphology and donor/acceptor composition, enabling efficient hydrogen evolution.

OBJECTIVES: Acoustic radiation force impulse (ARFI) elastography, the aspartate aminotransferase-to-alanine aminotransferase ratio (AAR), aspartate aminotransferase-to-platelet ratio index (APRI), and the fibrosis-4 (FIB-4) index are widely used to assess liver fibrosis. However, efficacies of these methods in the evaluation of hepatic functional reserve remain unclear. In this study, we investigated the relationship between ARFI elastography combined with either AAR, APRI, or FIB-4 index and Child-Pugh (CP) class for the evaluation of hepatic functional reserve in patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB)-related cirrhosis. METHODS: The shear wave velocities of 104 patients with clinically confirmed CHB-related cirrhosis were determined using the ARFI; and clinical serum markers (e.g. ALT, AST, PLT) were used to calculate the AAR, APRI, and FIB-4 index. Cirrhosis patients were scored according to their CP class. The ARFI, AAR, APRI, and FIB-4 index were compared with the CP class. The efficacy of each indicator in diagnosis was analyzed using the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve and the ARFI combined with either the AAR, APRI, or FIB-4 index, which is used to predict decompensated cirrhosis. Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been implicated in cancer biogenesis and prognosis. However, we still lack knowledge on their function during glioma progression. In this study, we analyzed the lncRNA expression profile across 907 glioma patients in grades II, III, and IV. Widespread dynamic expression of lncRNAs during glioma progression was revealed, and we identified 33 onco-lncRNAs and 61 tumor suppressor lncRNAs. We found that the expression of these oncogenic lncRNAs is regulated by grade-specific expressed transcription factors. Based on the “guilt by association” rule, we predicted the potential functions of oncogenic lncRNAs, and the majority of these lncRNAs are involved in cancer hallmarks. Especially we found that CARD8-AS1 regulates the metastatic potential of glioma cell lines in vitro. Integrating clinical information, we identified the 12 protective and 8 risk lncRNAs (such as PWAR6 and CARD8-AS1) in glioma. Finally, an lncRNA-gene functional module was identified to be associated with the survival of patients. The predictive ability of this module signature was further validated in an independent dataset. Our results revealed the dynamic transcriptome transition during glioma progression, indicating that the lncRNA signature could be a useful biomarker that may improve upon our understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying glioma progression. Abstract A promising anode material composed of SnS2@CoS2 flower-like spheres assembled from SnS2 nanosheets and CoS2 nanoparticles accompanied by reduced graphene oxide (rGO) was fabricated by a facile hydrothermal pathway. The presence of rGO and the combined merits of SnS2 and CoS2 endow the SnS2@CoS2–rGO composite with high conductivity pathways and channels for electrons and with excellent properties as an anode material for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs). A high capacity of 514.0 mAh g−1 at a current density of 200 mA g−1 after 100 cycles and a good rate capability can be delivered. The defined structure and good sodium-storage performance of the SnS2@CoS2–rGO composite demonstrate its promising application in high-performance SIBs.

Various algorithms predominantly use data-driven methods for forecasting building electricity consumption. Among them, algorithms that use deep learning methods and, long and short-term memory (LSTM) have shown strong prediction accuracy in numerous fields. However, the LSTM algorithm still has certain limitations, e.g., the accuracy of forecasting the building air conditioning power consumption was not very high. To explore ways of improving the prediction accuracy, this study selects a high-rise office building in Shanghai to predict the air conditioning power consumption and lighting power consumption, respectively and discusses the influence of weather parameters and schedule parameters on the prediction accuracy. The results demonstrate that using the LSTM algorithm to accurately predict the electricity consumption of air conditioners is more challenging than predicting lighting electricity consumption. To improve the prediction accuracy of air conditioning power consumption, two parameters, relative humidity, and scheduling, must be added to the prediction model.
