Graphene betavoltaic isotope battery is one of the applications of graphene in semiconductor and microelectronics. Among them，the modification of graphene is an important research content to improve the application of graphene in these fields. In this study，we compared the effect of nitric acid doping and electron beam irradiation on the output performance of graphene betavoltaic isotope batteries. At the same time，the mechanism of two different methods on the modification of graphene materials was studied by means of light microscope，XPS and Raman spectroscopy. The results show that the nitric acid doping was a surface charge transfer process，which can not change the sp2 hybrid carbon atoms in graphene into sp3 hybrid，but can improve the short-circuit current of graphene betavoltaic isotope batteries. While the electron beam irradiation of graphene will introduce defects in graphene，and transform sp2 hybrid carbon atoms in graphene into sp3 hybrids，thus opening the band gap of graphene and improving the open circuit voltage and filling factor of graphene betavoltaic isotope batteries. The above results can provide experimental theoretical basis for the design and preparation of graphene betavoltaic isotope batteries，and provide reference for further improving the performance of graphene betavoltaic isotope batteries.

Abstract Lung adenocarcinoma is the most common primary lung cancer seen in the world, and identifying genetic markers is essential for predicting the prognosis of lung adenocarcinoma and improving treatment outcomes. It is well known that alterations in circadian rhythms are associated with a higher risk of cancer. Moreover, circadian rhythms play a regulatory role in the human body. Therefore, studying the changes in circadian rhythms in cancer patients is crucial for optimizing treatment. The gene expression data and clinical data were sourced from TCGA database, and we identified the circadian clock-related genes. We used the obtained TCGA-LUAD data set to build the model, and the other 647 lung adenocarcinoma patients’ data were collected from two GEO data sets for external verification. A risk score model for circadian clock-related genes was constructed, based on the identification of 8 genetically significant genes. Based on ROC analyses, the risk model demonstrated a high level of accuracy in predicting the overall survival times of lung adenocarcinoma patients in training folds, as well as external data sets. This study has successfully constructed a risk model for lung adenocarcinoma prognosis, utilizing circadian rhythm as its foundation. This model demonstrates a dependable capacity to forecast the outcome of the disease, which can further guide the relevant mechanism of lung adenocarcinoma and combine behavioral therapy with treatment to optimize treatment decision-making.

Abstract Objective Since January 8, 2023, China has managed COVID-19 as a Class-B infectious disease, marking the epidemic's transition to a low-level stage. This study analyzes the relationship between the public's perceived a community with shared future for doctor-patient (PCSF), health self-consciousness, benefit finding, and anxiety in this stage. Additionally, it compares changes in these variables across different stages of COVID-19. Methods Using a repeated cross-sectional design, three surveys were conducted respectively in three different stages of COVID-19 in China. Specifically, the first survey was conducted in Beijing, Dalian, Zhengzhou, Heihe, and Shangrao from November 13 to 20, 2021 in the outbreak stage of COVID-19, yielding 1,252 valid responses out of 1,534 collected questionnaires. The second survey was conducted in Dalian, Zhengzhou, Heihe, Shangrao, and Lanzhou from December 1 to 19, 2021 in the stable stage of COVID-19, with 872 valid responses obtained from 1,075 collected questionnaires. The third survey was conducted in Beijing, Dalian, Zhengzhou, Heihe, Shangrao, Lanzhou, and Chengdu from January 29 to February 4, 2023 in the low epidemic level stage of COVID-19, achieving 2,113 valid responses from the 2,461 questionnaires collected. Results Unlike in the outbreak stage but similar to the stable stage, the public's anxiety, health self-consciousness and benefit finding decreased while PCSF was improved in the low epidemic level stage. Consistent with both the outbreak and stable stage, PCSF, health self-consciousness, benefit finding, and anxiety showed positive correlations in the low epidemic level stage, with health self-consciousness partially mediating the positive impact of PCSF on benefit finding. Unlike in the stable stage but similar to the outbreak stage, anxiety did not moderate the relationship between PCSF and health self-consciousness in the low epidemic level stage. Conclusions The public's health self-consciousness, benefit finding, and anxiety decreased, while PCSF increased in the low epidemic level stage. Furthermore, PCSF had a greater impact on benefit finding, and anxiety's impact on health self-consciousness was significantly reduced. Across different stages of COVID-19, PCSF directly increased benefit finding and also enhanced benefit finding by improving health self-consciousness. Thus, comprehensive intervention measures are beneficial in the low epidemic level stage.

Abstract Background Diet and inflammation are associated with constipation. Dietary inflammation index (DII) and energy-dietary inflammation index (E-DII) have not been evaluated together with constipation. Therefore, this study was conducted to further observe the relationship between DII and E-DII and constipation in American adults. Methods Data were extracted from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) for 12,400 adults aged 20 years and older between 2005 and 2010. DII and E-DII were obtained by employing data from the two 24-h dietary recall of the participants. Constipation was defined and categorized using the Bristol Stool Form Scale. Results In the logistic regression model, the relationship between DII and E-DII and constipation remained positive after adjusting for confounding factors (odds ratio [OR] = 1.13; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.07–1.20 in DII logistic regression model III; odds ratio [OR] = 1.09; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.03–1.17 in E-DII logistic regression model III). Constipation was more common in quartile 4 (DII: 2.87—5.09; E-DII: 1.78—8.95) than in quartile 1 (DII: -5.11—0.25; E-DII: -2.60—0.11) (OR = 1.79, 95% CI: 1.30–2.47 in DII and OR = 1.75, 95% CI: 1.25–2.46 in E-DII for all participants; OR = 2.04, 95% CI: 1.39–3.00 in DII OR = 2.20, 95% CI: 1.39–3.47 in E-DII for males; OR = 1.86, 95% CI: 1.08–3.22 and OR = 1.80, 95% CI: 1.06–3.06 for females). These results were confirmed using multiple imputations. Conclusions The findings of this study show that a high DII and E-DII were associated with an increased incidence of constipation among US adults.

ObjectiveTo investigate the effects of calcium and integrin-binding protein 1 (CIB1) on the cell proliferation, invasion, apoptosis, and migration of triple-negative breast cancer cells and its possible mechanism. MethodsMDA-MB-231 and MDA-MB-468 cells were divided into CIB1-knockdown(infected with CRISPR/Cas9 lentivirus) and negative-control groups. Abstract The efficient operation of heating ventilation and air conditioning systems relies on advanced control strategies. However, current control methods are often limited by issues such as uncertain system parameter information and spatial coupling constraints related to the supply rate of the air supply fan. To this end, an energy joint thermal comfort management method for complex environments in multiple regions is proposed. The long-term total cost minimization of the system is established, and then the Lyapunov optimization technology is used to design the distributed control algorithm. Simulation validation shows that the proposed method reduces the energy cost by an average of 11.24% compared to other methods with a thermal discomfort cost coefficient of 0. The average temperature deviation in the area is improved by 0.15 °C and 0.68 °C, respectively. The method saves more than 10% of the total energy cost under different thermal perturbations with an average total temperature deviation of 0.04 °C. The results indicate that the proposed energy joint thermal comfort management method can flexibly balance energy costs and user thermal comfort without knowing any prior information of system parameters, which can also greatly protect user privacy information. This method has application value in the control of heating ventilation and air conditioning systems in complex environments such as commercial buildings.

As people live longer, the burden of aging-related brain diseases, especially dementia, is increasing. Brain aging increases the risk of cognitive impairment, which manifests as a progressive loss of neuron function caused by the impairment of synaptic plasticity via disrupting lipid homeostasis. Therefore, supplemental dietary lipids have the potential to prevent brain aging. This review summarizes the important roles of dietary lipids in brain function from both structure and mechanism perspectives. Epidemiological and animal studies have provided evidence of the functions of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) in brain health. The results of interventions indicate that phospholipids—including phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylserine, and plasmalogen—are efficient in alleviating cognitive impairment during aging, with plasmalogen exhibiting higher efficacy than phosphatidylserine. Plasmalogen is a recognized nutrient used in clinical trials due to its special vinyl ether bonds and abundance in the postsynaptic membrane of neurons. Future research should determine the dose-dependent effects of plasmalogen in alleviating brain-aging diseases and should develop extraction and storage procedures for its clinical application.

Background: Bulbus Fritillariae Pallidiflorae (BFP) is a traditional Chinese medicine that has long been used to treat lung diseases, but the active components and mechanism are still unclear. Objective: This study aimed to investigate the effect and mechanism of the total alkaloid extract from BFP (BFP-TA) on cigarette smoke extract (CSE)-induced Beas-2B cells injury. Design: The Beas-2B cells injury model was induced by 2% CSE, then the effect of BFP-TA on the levels of total antioxidant capacity (T-AOC), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and malondialdehyde (MDA) was detected according to the instructions of the T-AOC assay kit, the SOD detection kit and the MDA detection kit, and the production of ROS was detected by fluorescence microscopy. The effect of BFP-TA on Beas-2B cells apoptosis was detected by flow cytometry, and the effect of BFP-TA on related protein expression was detected by western blot. Subsequently, the effect of BFP-TA on differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in CSE-induced Beas-2B cells was studied by transcriptomic sequencing, and the expression of DEGs was verified by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qPCR). Results: The results showed that BFP-TA could attenuate CSE-induced oxidative damage in Beas-2B cells by elevating T-AOC and SOD levels while inhibiting ROS and MDA levels, and the mechanism was potentially related to the SIRT1/Nrf2/Keap1 signaling pathway. Furthermore, BFP-TA could inhibit CSE-induced apoptosis by inhibiting the protein expression of Bax, MST1 and FOXO3a, and exert anti-inflammatory effect by inhibiting the activation of MAPK signaling pathway. Subsequently, transcriptome analysis and qPCR validation showed that BFP-TA could alleviate inflammation, oxidative stress, apoptosis and lipid metabolism disorders by regulating the expression of DEGs in PPAR and PI3K-Akt signaling pathways, thereby exerting a protective effect against CSE-induced Beas-2B cell injury. Conclusion: This study is the first to demonstrate that BFP-TA could exert a protective effect on CSE-induced Beas-2B cell injury by exerting anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-apoptotic and regulate lipid metabolism disorders.

Abstract Background The functional integrity of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) influences surgical decision-making in patients with knee osteoarthritis (KOA). This study aimed to compare the diagnostic value of radiography and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in determining the functional status of ACL. Methods We analyzed 306 knees retrospectively using preoperative hip-to-ankle anteroposterior standing (APS) radiographs, anteroposterior (AP) and lateral knee radiographs, AP valgus stress (VS) force radiographs, and standard orthogonal MRI. Based on the intraoperative visualization, the knees were grouped into ACL functionally-intact and ACL functionally-deficient (ACLD) groups. The diagnostic validity and reliability were calculated based on the radiograph parameters such as hip-knee-ankle angle (HKA), medial proximal tibial angle (MPTA), lateral distal femoral angle (LDFA), posterior tibial slope (PTS), sagittal tibiofemoral subluxation (STFS), coronal tibiofemoral subluxation (CTFS), joint line convergence angle (JLCA), the maximum wear point of the proximal tibia plateau (MWPPT%), and MRI parameters including ACL grades and MWPPT%. Abstract Serine/threonine protein kinase 19 (STK19) has been reported to phosphorylate and activate oncogenic NRAS to promote melanomagenesis. However, concerns have been raised about whether STK19 is a kinase. STK19 has also been identified as a putative factor involved in the transcription-coupled nucleotide excision repair (TC-NER) pathway. In this study, we determined the 1.32 Å crystal structure of human STK19. The structure reveals that STK19 is a winged helix (WH) protein consisting of three tandem WH domains. STK19 binds more strongly to double-stranded DNA and RNA (dsDNA/dsRNA) than to ssDNA. A positively charged patch centered on helix WH3-H1 contributes to dsDNA binding, which is unusual because the WH domain typically uses helix H3 as the recognition helix. Importantly, mutations of the conserved residues in the basic patch, K186N, R200W, and R215W, are found in cancer patients, and these mutations compromise STK19 DNA binding. Other mutations have been predicted to produce a similar effect, including two mutations that disrupt the nuclear localization signal (NLS) motif. These mutations may indirectly impact the DNA binding capacity of STK19 by interfering with its nuclear localization.

Abstract Tuberous sclerosis complex 2 (TSC2) crucially suppresses Rheb activity to prevent mTORC1 activation. However, mutations in TSC genes lead to mTORC1 overactivation, thereby causing various developmental disorders and cancer. Therefore, the discovery of novel Rheb inhibitors is vital to prevent mTOR overactivation. Here, we reveals that the anti-inflammatory cytokine IL-37d can bind to lysosomal Rheb and suppress its activity independent of TSC2, thereby preventing mTORC1 activation. The binding of IL-37d to Rheb switch-II subregion destabilizes the Rheb-mTOR and mTOR-S6K interactions, further halting mTORC1 signaling. Unlike TSC2, IL-37d is reduced under ethanol stimulation, which results in mitigating the suppression of lysosomal Rheb-mTORC1 activity. Consequently, the recombinant human IL-37d protein (rh-IL-37d) with a TAT peptide greatly improves alcohol-induced liver disorders by hindering Rheb-mTORC1 axis overactivation in a TSC2- independent manner. Together, IL-37d emerges as a novel Rheb suppressor independent of TSC2 to terminate mTORC1 activation and improve abnormal lipid metabolism in the liver.

Abstract Background Masquelet membrane induction technology is one of the treatment strategies for large bone defect (LBD). However, the angiogenesis ability of induced membrane decreases with time and autologous bone grafting is associated with donor site morbidity. This study investigates if the PRP-FG-nHA/PA66 scaffold can be used as a spacer instead of PMMA to improve the angiogenesis ability of induced membrane and reduce the amount of autologous bone graft. Methods Platelet rich plasma (PRP) was prepared and PRP-FG-nHA/PA66 scaffold was synthesized and observed. The sustained release of VEGFA and porosity of the scaffold were analyzed. We established a femur LBD model in male SD rats. 55 rats were randomly divided into four groups depending on the spacer filled in the defect area. “Defect only” group (n = 10), “PMMA” group (n = 15), “PRP-nHA/PA66” group (n = 15) and “PRP-FG-nHA/PA66” group (n = 15 ). At 6 weeks, the spacers were removed and the defects were grafted. The induced membrane and bone were collected and stained. The bone formation was detected by micro-CT and the callus union was scored on a three point system. Results The PRP-FG-nHA/PA66 scaffold was porosity and could maintain a high concentration of VEGFA after 30 days of preparation. The induced membrane in PRP-FG-nHA/PA66 group was thinner than PMMA, but the vessel density was higher.The weight of autogenous bone grafted in PRP-FG-nHA/PA66 group was significantly smaller than that of PMMA group. In PRP-FG-nHA/PA66 group, the bone defect was morphologically repaired. Conclusion The study showed that PRP-FG-nHA/PA66 scaffold can significantly reduce the amount of autologous bone graft, and can achieve similar bone defect repair effect as PMMA. Our findings provide some reference and theoretical support for the treatment of large segmental bone defects in humans.

Abstract Aedes aegypti is a primary vector for transmitting various arboviruses, including Yellow fever, dengue and Zika virus. The mosquito midgut is the principal organ for blood meal digestion, nutrient absorption and the initial site of arbovirus infection. Although a previous study delineated midgut’s transcriptome of Ae. aegypti at the single-nucleus resolution, there still lacks an established protocol for isolating and RNA sequencing of single cells of Ae. aegypti midgut, which is required for investigating arbovirus-midgut interaction at the single-cell level. Here, we established an atlas of the midgut cells for Ae. aegypti by single-cell RNA sequencing. We annotated the cell clusters including intestinal stem cells/enteroblasts (ISC/EB), cardia cells (Cardia), enterocytes (EC, EC-like), enteroendocrine cells (EE), visceral muscle (VM), fat body cells (FBC) and hemocyte cells (HC). This study will provide a foundation for further studies of arbovirus infection in mosquito midgut at the single-cell level.

ABSTRACT: Objectives: Polymyxins are currently the last-resort treatment against multi-drug resistant Gram-negative bacterial infections, but plasmid-mediated mobile polymyxin resistance genes (mcr) threaten its efficacy, especially in carbapenem-resistant Enterobacter cloacae complex (CRECC). The objective of this study was to provide insights into the mechanism of polymyxin-induced bacterial resistance and the effect of overexpression of mcr-9. Methods: The clinical strain CRECC414 carrying the mcr-9 gene was treated with a gradient concentration of polymyxin. Subsequently, the broth microdilution was used to determine the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and RT-qPCR was utilized to assess mcr-9 expression. Transcriptome sequencing and whole genome sequencing (WGS) was utilized to identify alterations in strains resulting from increased polymyxin resistance, and significant transcriptomic differences were analysed alongside a comprehensive examination of metabolic networks at the genomic level. Results: Polymyxin treatment induced the upregulation of mcr-9 expression and significantly elevated the MIC of the strain. Furthermore, the WGS and transcriptomic results revealed a remarkable up-regulation of arnBCADTEF gene cassette, indicating that the Arn/PhoPQ system-mediated L-Ara4N modification is the preferred mechanism for achieving high levels of resistance. Additionally, significant alterations in bacterial gene expression were observed with regards to multidrug efflux pumps, oxidative stress and repair mechanisms, cell membrane biosynthesis, as well as carbohydrate metabolic pathways. Conclusion: Polymyxin greatly disrupts the transcription of vital cellular pathways. A complete PhoPQ two-component system is a prerequisite for polymyxin resistance of Enterobacter cloacae, even though mcr-9 is highly expressed. These findings provide novel and important information for further investigation of polymyxin resistance of CRECC.

Abstract Traditional 2D imaging technologies are limited by the need for a large field of view and their sensitivity to small target motion. Inspired by the characteristics of insect compound eye structure, we propose an infrared bionic compound eye camera based on a small lens array. The camera is composed of 61 small lens arrays mounted on a curved spherical shell and a relay optical system. The imaging device is a high-performance cooled mid-wave infrared detector. This is an innovative design for an infrared biomimetic compound eye camera system that provides a wide field of view and all-day detection capability. Aimed to meet the specified requirements. The optical system achieves a 100% cold-membrane match between the infrared optical system and the cooled detector, and the relay optical system optimizes the large-field aberration by introducing a higher-order aspheric surface and modifying the geometric surface of the lenses. Our entire system enables an observation field angle of $$108^\circ \times 108^\circ$$ 108 ∘ × 108 ∘ . The experiments showed that the image quality of the system is high, each ommatidium was effective within the imaging range of the compound eye camera, resulting in an improved signal-to-noise ratio in various scenes.

Abstract The effects of bomb impacts, including the explosive force and combustion associated with these impacts, are preserved in only a few cities across the UK. In particular, World War Two (WWII) has left scars across a wide range of structures as a result of air raids. On immovable heritage, such as architectural structures, these impacts commonly take the form of craters, fractures and fire damage to stonework. This instantaneous damage is subsequently exposed to environmental stresses, such as moisture cycling, thermal stress and the movement of soluble elements and can thus lead to further deterioration of the stone. In this study, Rock Surface Hardness (RSH) measurements, permeametry measurements and microscopic observations were selected to capture stone deterioration data from 80-year-old bomb impacts on two walls of the Labour Exchange in Bath (UK) for spatial distribution analysis (Kriging) in Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The results show that the weathering forms that were found on the two walls can be attributed to nine different types. They can provide quantitative assessment of damage caused by bomb explosions and combustion in the war. The increase in permeability of walls and craters is shown to be primarily caused by the bomb explosion and combustion, whereas the decrease of hardness is associated with subsequent stone deterioration processes. This indicates that the interplay of initial damage likely accelerates subsequent response to environmental stress, extending the initial damage patterns from the impact crater to larger areas of stonework.

Abstract Background Mosquito-borne viruses cause various infectious diseases in humans and animals. Oya virus (OYAV) and Ebinur Lake virus (EBIV), belonging to the genus Orthobunyavirus within the family Peribunyaviridae, are recognized as neglected viruses with the potential to pose threats to animal or public health. The evaluation of vector competence is essential for predicting the arbovirus transmission risk. Methods To investigate the range of mosquito vectors for OYAV (strain SZC50) and EBIV (strain Cu20-XJ), the susceptibility of four mosquito species (Culex pipiens pallens, Cx. quinquefasciatus, Aedes albopictus, and Ae. aegypti) was measured through artificial oral infection. Then, mosquito species with a high infection rate (IR) were chosen to further evaluate the dissemination rate (DR), transmission rate (TR), and transmission efficiency. The viral RNA in each mosquito sample was determined by RT-qPCR. Results The results revealed that for OYAV, Cx. pipiens pallens had the highest IR (up to 40.0%) among the four species, but the DR and TR were 4.8% and 0.0%, respectively. For EBIV, Cx. pipiens pallens and Cx. quinquefasciatus had higher IR compared to Ae. albopictus (1.7%). However, the EBIV RNA and infectious virus were detected in Cx. pipiens pallens, with a TR of up to 15.4% and a transmission efficiency of 3.3%. Conclusions The findings indicate that Cx. pipiens pallens was susceptible to OYAV but had an extremely low risk of transmitting the virus. Culex pipiens pallens and Cx. quinquefasciatus were susceptible to EBIV, and Cx. pipiens pallens had a higher transmission risk to EBIV than Cx. quinquefasciatus. Graphical Abstract

Abstract Prior evidence suggests that increasingly efficient task performance in human learning is associated with large scale brain network dynamics. However, the specific nature of this general relationship has remained unclear. Here, we characterize performance improvement during feedback-driven stimulus-response (S-R) learning by learning rate as well as S-R habit strength and test whether and how these two behavioral measures are associated with a functional brain state transition from a more integrated to a more segregated brain state across learning. Capitalizing on two separate fMRI studies using similar but not identical experimental designs, we demonstrate for both studies that a higher learning rate is associated with a more rapid brain network segregation. By contrast, S-R habit strength is not reliably related to changes in brain network segregation. Overall, our current study results highlight the utility of dynamic functional brain state analysis. From a broader perspective taking into account previous study results, our findings align with a framework that conceptualizes brain network segregation as a general feature of processing efficiency not only in feedback-driven learning as in the present study but also in other types of learning and in other task domains.

Abstract Background Pathogenesis and diagnostic biomarkers of aortic dissection (AD) can be categorized through the analysis of differential metabolites in serum. Analysis of differential metabolites in serum provides new methods for exploring the early diagnosis and treatment of aortic dissection. Objectives This study examined affected metabolic pathways to assess the diagnostic value of metabolomics biomarkers in clients with AD. Method The serum from 30 patients with AD and 30 healthy people was collected. The most diagnostic metabolite markers were determined using metabolomic analysis and related metabolic pathways were explored. Results In total, 71 differential metabolites were identified. The altered metabolic pathways included reduced phospholipid catabolism and four different metabolites considered of most diagnostic value including N2-gamma-glutamylglutamine, PC(phocholines) (20:4(5Z,8Z,11Z,14Z)/15:0), propionyl carnitine, and taurine. These four predictive metabolic biomarkers accurately classified AD patient and healthy control (HC) samples with an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.9875. Based on the value of the four different metabolites, a formula was created to calculate the risk of aortic dissection. Risk score = (N2-gamma-glutamylglutamine × -0.684) + (PC (20:4(5Z,8Z,11Z,14Z)/15:0) × 0.427) + (propionyl carnitine × 0.523) + (taurine × -1.242). An additional metabolic pathways model related to aortic dissection was explored. Conclusion Metabolomics can assist in investigating the metabolic disorders associated with AD and facilitate a more in-depth search for potential metabolic biomarkers.

Abstract Objective This study aims to analyze the molecular characteristics of the novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) Omicron variant BA.2.76 in Jining City, China. Methods Whole-genome sequencing was performed on 87 cases of SARS-CoV-2 infection. Evolutionary trees were constructed using bioinformatics software to analyze sequence homology, variant sites, N-glycosylation sites, and phosphorylation sites. Results All 87 SARS-CoV-2 whole-genome sequences were classified under the evolutionary branch of the Omicron variant BA.2.76. Their similarity to the reference strain Wuhan-Hu-1 ranged from 99.72 to 99.74%. In comparison to the reference strain Wuhan-Hu-1, the 87 sequences exhibited 77–84 nucleotide differences and 27 nucleotide deletions. A total of 69 amino acid variant sites, 9 amino acid deletions, and 1 stop codon mutation were identified across 18 proteins. Among them, the spike (S) protein exhibited the highest number of variant sites, and the ORF8 protein showed a Q27 stop mutation. Multiple proteins displayed variations in glycosylation and phosphorylation sites. Conclusion SARS-CoV-2 continues to evolve, giving rise to new strains with enhanced transmission, stronger immune evasion capabilities, and reduced pathogenicity. The application of high-throughput sequencing technologies in the epidemic prevention and control of COVID-19 provides crucial insights into the evolutionary and variant characteristics of the virus at the genomic level, thereby holding significant implications for the prevention and control of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract Frontotemporal dementia (FTD) is a debilitating neurodegenerative disorder with currently no disease-modifying treatment options available. Mutations in GRN are one of the most common genetic causes of FTD, near ubiquitously resulting in progranulin (PGRN) haploinsufficiency. Small molecules that can restore PGRN protein to healthy levels in individuals bearing a heterozygous GRN mutation may thus have therapeutic value. Here, we show that epigenetic modulation through bromodomain and extra-terminal domain (BET) inhibitors (BETi) potently enhance PGRN protein levels, both intracellularly and secreted forms, in human central nervous system (CNS)-relevant cell types, including in microglia-like cells. In terms of potential for disease modification, we show BETi treatment effectively restores PGRN levels in neural cells with a GRN mutation known to cause PGRN haploinsufficiency and FTD. We demonstrate that BETi can rapidly and durably enhance PGRN in neural progenitor cells (NPCs) in a manner dependent upon BET protein expression, suggesting a gain-of-function mechanism. We further describe a CNS-optimized BETi chemotype that potently engages endogenous BRD4 and enhances PGRN expression in neuronal cells. Our results reveal a new epigenetic target for treating PGRN-deficient forms of FTD and provide mechanistic insight to aid in translating this discovery into therapeutics.

Dinoflagellates are ecologically important and essential to corals and other cnidarians as phytosymbionts, but their photosystems had been underexplored. Recently, photosystem I (PSI) of dinoflagellate Symbiodinium sp. was structurally characterized using cryo-Electron Microscopy (cryo-EM). These analyses revealed a distinct organization of the PSI supercomplex, including two previously unidentified subunits, PsaT and PsaU, and shed light on interactions between light harvesting antenna proteins and the PSI core. These results have implications with respect to the evolution of dinoflagellates and their association with cnidarians.

Abstract To study the aerodynamic performance and wind-induced response of carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) cables, CFRP cable was designed by replacing a steel cable in a tied arch bridge based on stiffness, strength and area equivalent criteria, respectively. The aerodynamic performance and wind-induced response of CFRP cable and steel cable were studied and compared by computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model. Based on the computational results, optimal cable replacement criterion was proposed for CFRP cable to replace steel cable. In addition, surface modification was conducted by engrooving vertical symmetric (VS), vertical asymmetric (VA) and helical symmetric (HS) V-shaped grooves to improve the aerodynamic performance and wind-induced response of CFRP cable. Results showed that CFRP cables exhibited inferior aerodynamic performance and wind-induced response in most cases. However, CFRP cable based on stiffness equivalent criterion exhibited better aerodynamic performance and wind-induced vibration properties compared to the other two cable replacement criteria, thus is regarded as the optimal substitute for steel cable. In addition, HS grooves generated symmetric disturbances and caused approximately equivalent boundary layer separation delays uniformly and continuously along the cable length, thus exhibiting better effect in decreasing the reverse flow region, the maximum negative flow velocity, the vortex shedding frequency and the wind-induced vibration amplitude of CFRP cable. Hence, the stiffness equivalent criterion combined with surface modification with HS V-shaped grooves was proposed to replace steel cable with CFRP cable. This study can provide insights into the aerodynamic performance and wind-induced response of CFRP cable and instructions for cable replacement practice.

Abstract Biomineralization is the intricate process by which living organisms orchestrate the formation of organic–inorganic composites by regulating the nucleation, orientation, growth, and assembly of inorganic minerals. As our comprehension of biomineralization principles deepens, novel strategies for fabricating inorganic materials based on these principles have emerged. Researchers can also harness biomineralization strategies to tackle challenges in both materials' science and biomedical fields, demonstrating a thriving research field. This review begins by introducing the concept of biomineralization and subsequently shifts its focus to a recently discovered chemical concept: inorganic ionic oligomers and their cross‐linking. As a novel approach for constructing inorganic materials, the inorganic ionic oligomer‐based strategy finds applications in biomimetic regeneration and repair of hard tissues, such as teeth and bones. Aside from innovative methods for material fabrication, biomineralization has emerged as an alternative method for tackling biomedical challenges by integrating materials with biological organisms, facilitating advancements in biomedical fields. Emerging material‐biological integrators play a critical role in areas like vaccine improvement, cancer therapy, universal blood transfusion, and arthritis treatment. This review highlights the profound impact of biomineralization in the development and design of high‐performance materials that go beyond traditional disciplinary boundaries, potentially promoting breakthroughs in materials science, chemical biology, biomedical, and numerous other domains.

AbstractSageretia thea (Osbeck) M.C. Johnst (1968) is an important fruit and medicinal species of Rhamnaceae family. The complete chloroplast genome (cp) of Sageretia genus was sequenced and reported for the first time in this study. The cp genome had a total length of 161,352 bp, consisting of a largesingle-copy (LSC) region of 89,802 bp, a small single-copy (SSC) region of 18,914 bp, and a pair of inverted repeat (IR) regions totaling 26,318 bp. The plastid genome contained 129 genes, including 84 protein-coding genes, 37 tRNA genes, 8 rRNA genes. The overall GC content of the genome was found to be 37.10%. Phylogenetic analysis based on comparison with 27 chloroplast genomes revealed that S. thea is closely related to genera Rhamnus and Berchemia. The findings of this study can provide fundamental insights for the conservation, exploitation, and systematic genomic investigation of Rhamnus plants.

Abstract Cardiac microtissues provide a promising platform for disease modeling and developmental studies, which require the close monitoring of the multimodal excitation-contraction dynamics. However, no existing assessing tool can track these multimodal dynamics across the live tissue. We develop a tissue-like mesh bioelectronic system to track these multimodal dynamics. The mesh system has tissue-level softness and cell-level dimensions to enable stable embedment in the tissue. It is integrated with an array of graphene sensors, which uniquely converges both bioelectrical and biomechanical sensing functionalities in one device. The system achieves stable tracking of the excitation-contraction dynamics across the tissue and throughout the developmental process, offering comprehensive assessments for tissue maturation, drug effects, and disease modeling. It holds the promise to provide more accurate quantification of the functional, developmental, and pathophysiological states in cardiac tissues, creating an instrumental tool for improving tissue engineering and studies.

Abstract The rendering of urban 3D scenes involves a large number of models. In order to render scenes more efficiently, the main solution is to build a level of detail model (LOD). This may have the problem of building fragmentation, while relying on building a level of detail model (LOD) alone cannot meet the accuracy and fluency of large‐scale scene visualisation. Effective and reasonable data organisation has important research significance for the authors to achieve accurate and fast rendering of scenes. Therefore, the authors propose a large‐scale city model data organisation method considering building distribution to solve the above problems. This method first classifies the buildings in the scene at macro‐, meso‐ and microscales and records the classification using R‐trees. Then an adaptive quadtree is used to construct the data index of the city model. Finally, the data organisation of the large‐scale 3D city model is achieved by using the information of each node of the R‐tree as a constraint and combining with the adaptive quadtree. The results show that the method not only ensures the integrity of the user's area of interest but also can improve the efficiency of 3D scene construction.

To investigate the effects of chitosan and ε-polylysine on the cell structure and cytoprotective enzymes of Carbibacterium divergens to explore their inhibition mechanism against Carbibacterium divergens, the broth dilution method was used to determine the minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of chitosan and ε-polylysine against Carbibacterium divergens. Their effects on the cellular structure of Carbibacterium divergens were then assessed by several indexes, such as growth curves, electronic conductivity, extracellular nucleic acids, extracellular proteins, and alkaline phosphatase (AKP) activity, and the microstructure of bacteria were also observed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). In addition, their role in oxidative stress was analyzed by detecting changes in catalase (CAT) activity and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity. The results showed that the MIC of chitosan and ε-polylysine against Carbibacterium divergens was 0.1953 and 0.1563 mg/mL, respectively. The intracellular components (AKP, proteins, nucleic acids, and ions) leaked after treatment with MIC and 2MIC chitosan and ε-polylysine. The mass concentrations of chitosan and ε-polylysine were negatively correlated with enzyme activity, and the activities CAT and SOD significantly decreased (P

Reactor thermal-hydraulic codes can be categorized into system codes, sub-channel codes and CFD (computational fluid dynamics) codes according to the spatial discretization and simplification methods. As a traditional reactor system safety analysis code, system code is able to analyze the overall performance of the reactor quickly, while it cannot capture the mixing effects between coolant channels in the core accurately. The sub-channel code is currently the most suitable code for core analysis, with higher fidelity than system code and less computation resources than CFD code. To perform analysis of coupling effects between thermal-hydraulics characteristics of the reactor system and those of core, the in-house system code ASRAC and the in-house sub-channel code CORTH are coupled based on a generic coupling architecture. This generic coupling architecture comprises the generic coupling interface concept ICoCo (Interface for Code Coupling) and the generic data exchange model MED (Model for Exchanging field Data). In order to evaluate the accuracy and capability of the coupling code, the LOFT experiment case is chosen and analyzed. According to the validation results, compared with ASRAC code standalone, the ARSAC-CORTH coupling code is able to better analyze the coupling effects of loop system and core, meanwhile capturing the coolant mixing between coolant channels.

To promote the use of solid waste in concrete production and solve the problem of secondary pollution caused by a large amount of solid waste, the four-factor and four-level orthogonal test method was used to investigate the different replacement rates of coal gangue (CG) ceramics (15%, 20%, 25%, and 30%), coal gangue ceramic sand (CGS) (10%, 15%, 20%, and 25%), fly ash (FA) (10%, 15%, 20%, and 25%), and steel fiber (SF) content (0.30%, 0.60%, 0.90%, and 1.2). By using range analysis, variance analysis, matrix analysis, and regression analysis, the prediction models of primary and secondary factors, optimal dosage, and strength under different factor levels were obtained. The microstructure and strengthening mechanisms of different materials were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results show that the optimal combination of the CG substitution rate is 30%, CGS substitution rate is 15%, SF content is 1.2%, and FA substitution rate is 10% for cube compressive strength. For the splitting tensile strength, the optimal combination is a CG substitution rate of 30%, CGS substitution rate of 25%, SF content of 1.2%, and FA substitution rate of 10%. The resulting strength prediction model has high accuracy, which can predict the strength within the range selected by the orthogonal test in this paper and provide a reference for the application of steel fibers and solid waste in concrete, which contributes to the energy conservation and emission reduction in the construction industry.

Concrete faces the difficulties of low tensile strength and poor crack resistance in building structures. In order to remedy this deficiency. In this paper, steel-polypropylene hybrid fiber reinforced concrete (SPFRC) was prepared by adding steel fiber (SF) and three kinds of polypropylene fiber (PF) to C50-grade concrete. The mechanical properties and microstructure of SPFRC were studied with different fiber combinations and content, obtaining the best hybrid combination. Based on this, the bending resistance and cracking of SPFRC beam members were investigated. The results demonstrate that the addition of fiber improves the compressive strength of ordinary concrete by 0.16% ∼ 17.69%, the splitting tensile strength by 15.18% ∼ 47.45%, and the bending strength by 3.54% ∼ 26.77%. Compared with single-fiber concrete, the hybrid fiber can achieve better internal microstructure, which further enhances the mechanical properties of the material. Hybrid fibers overlap within concrete beams, effectively redistributing stress and inhibiting the formation and propagation of cracks. For the three types of SPFRC beams, the cracking load is increased by 14.29% ∼ 28.57% compared with PC beam, the ultimate bearing capacity is increased by 9.68% ∼ 19.35%. The optimal dosage is determined as 1.0% SF, 0.6% Embossed polypropylene fiber (PBF). It provides reference for the application of SPFRC in flexural members.

The development of nanotechnology has brought about groundbreaking advancements in diseases’ diagnostics and therapeutics. Among them, multifunctional nanomaterials with enzyme-like activities (i.e., nanozymes) featured with high stability, large surface area for bioconjugation, and easy storage, offer unprecedented opportunities for disease diagnostics and treatment. Recent years have witnessed the great progress of nanozyme-based theranostics. To highlight these achievements, this review first introduces the recent advancements on nanozymes in biosensing and diagnostics. Then, it summarizes the applications of nanozymes in therapeutics including anti-tumor and antibacterial treatment, anti-inflammatory treatment, and other diseases treatment. In addition, several targeted strategies to improve the therapeutic efficacy of nanozyme are discussed. Finally, the opportunities and challenges in the field of diagnosis and therapy are summarized.

This study proposed using a Gyroid structure, a type of triply periodic minimal surface (TPMS), to replace conventional pebble bed configurations and address drawbacks such as inherently low packing fractions, extensive stress concentrations, high flow resistance, and low thermal conductivity. The feasibility of the Gyroid block configuration was evaluated by comparing it with a pebble bed configuration regarding the flow behaviors and heat transfer performance. The flow behavior of the porous block configuration was superior to that of the pebble bed configuration. At the same inlet velocity of 0.1–0.2 m/s, the porous block configuration had a ∼56 % higher average flow velocity and only half the pressure drop. The convective heat transfer coefficient and Nusselt numbers in the porous block configuration were 56–84 % and 2.6–3.1 times higher, respectively, than those in the pebble bed configuration. The effective thermal conductivity of the porous block configuration increased by ∼18 % at an inlet velocity of 0.15 m/s and a temperature of 773–1173 K. This study preliminarily verified the feasibility of the Gyroid structures for tritium breeders in engineering applications and is anticipated to provide new opportunities for the design of tritium breeders with higher lithium densities, remarkable flow behavior, and outstanding thermal performance.

The quality of fermented plant leaves is closely related to the interleaf microorganisms and their metabolic activities. In this experiment, a multi-omics analysis was applied to investigate the link between the structural composition of the phyllosphere microbial community and the main metabolites during the fermentation process. It was found that the whole fermentation process of cigar leaves could be divided into three stages, in which the Mid-Stage was the most active period of microbial metabolic activities and occupied an important position. Staphylococcus, Brevundimonas, Acinetobacter, Brevibacterium, Pantoea, Aspergillus, Wallemia, Meyerozyma, Sampaiozyma, Adosporium and Trichomonascus played important roles in this fermentation. Staphylococcus and Aspergillus are the microorganisms that play an important role in the fermentation process. Staphylococcus were strongly correlated with lipids and amino acids, despite its low abundance, Stenotrophomonas is importantly associated with terpene and plays a significant role throughout the process. It is worth noting that Wapper exists more characteristic fungal genera than Filler and is more rapid in fermentation progress, which implies that the details of the fermentation process should be adjusted appropriately to ensure stable quality when faced with plant leaves of different genotypes. This experiment explored the relationship between metabolites and microorganisms, and provided a theoretical basis for further optimizing the fermentation process of plant leaves and developing techniques to improve product quality. Biomarker is mostly present in the pre-fermentation phase, but the mid-fermentation phase is the most important part of the process.

IntroductionFlow, defined as a heightened state of consciousness characterized by intense concentration during an activity, is influenced primarily by the perceived challenge and the dynamic equilibrium of skills. This investigation focuses on the patterns of flow state attainment and its elicitation mechanisms within the context of piano performance among Chinese music college students.MethodsOur study establishes a framework for accessing flow, utilizing quantitative data from music ontology to gauge the level of challenge and the level of music acquisition to assess skills. Additionally, we integrate external factors such as music culture heterogeneity and demographic variables to elucidate the causes and moderating effects of flow on piano performance.ResultsThe findings reveal a positive correlation between flow and performance, with the model of challenge and skill induction partially explaining these results. Notably, melodic Shannon Entropy emerges as a potential indicator of challenge, suggesting its relevance in future studies on flow.DiscussionThis research provides multidimensional insights into the interplay between performance and flow in piano performance, guiding future investigations to explore the musical quantitative perspective more deeply.

Abstract Myocardial infarction (MI), a consequence of coronary artery occlusion, triggers the degradation of ferritin, resulting in elevated levels of free iron in the heart and thereby inducing ferroptosis. Targeting myocardial ferroptosis through the chelation of excess iron has therapeutic potential for MI treatment. However, iron chelation in post ischemic injury areas using conventional iron‐specific chelators is hindered by ineffective myocardial intracellular chelation, rapid clearance, and high systemic toxicity. A chitosan‐desferrioxamine nanosponge (CDNS) is designed by co‐crosslinking chitosan and deferoxamine through noncovalent gelation to address these challenges. This architecture facilitates direct iron chelation regardless of deferoxamine (DFO) release due to its sponge‐like porous hydrogel structure. Upon cellular internalization, CDNS can effectively chelate cellular iron and facilitate the efflux of captured iron, thereby inhibiting ferroptosis and associated oxidative stress and lipid peroxidation. In MI mouse models, myocardial injection of CDNS promotes sustainable retention and the suppression of ferroptosis in the infarcted heart. This intervention improves cardiac function and alleviates adverse cardiac remodeling post‐MI, leading to decreased oxidative stress and the promotion of angiogenesis due to ferroptosis inhibition by CDNS in the infarcted heart. This study reveals a nanosponge‐based nanomedicine targeting myocardial ferroptosis with efficient iron chelation and efflux, offering a promising MI treatment.

The rational allocation of carbon emission quotas is crucial for improving the orderly operation of carbon markets. As a major energy-consuming province in China, Jiangsu's cities must allocate allowable carbon emissions effectively to meet China's 2030 peaking target. This study aims to achieve an optimal allocation of carbon emission quotas by considering principles such as responsibility, efficiency, and equity. To accomplish this goal, we developed a three-stage progressive optimization allocation process. This process incorporates the entropy weight TOPSIS allocation model, zero-sum game-DEA model, and Gini coefficient. The initial allocation scheme revealed that cities in southern Jiangsu, which have higher economic development levels, also received higher carbon emission quotas, compromising efficiency and equity. In response, the second stage involves adjusting the allocation to optimize efficiency for each city, aligning the quotas more closely with historical levels. Finally, the third stage uses the Gini coefficient to further refine the allocation scheme, achieving a more balanced distribution that aligns responsibility, efficiency, and fairness. This research highlights the importance of a structured approach to carbon quota allocation, ensuring a balance that supports both environmental goals and equitable development.

The present paper investigates the dynamic behaviors of a bubble restricted by two parallel plates near an elliptical wall. The typical experimental phenomena of the bubble are recorded employing the high-speed photography and a theoretical Kelvin impulse model is established. The impacts of the spatial position and the curvature of the wall on the bubble collapse behaviors are quantitatively investigated through the theoretical model and verified against the experimental results. The Kelvin impulse intensity and the direction during the bubble collapse process are compared and discussed for different elliptical-shaped walls. The main conclusions include: (1) During the bubble collapse process, the phenomenon of the bubble uneven splitting is discovered. (2) At different spatial positions and wall curvatures, the bubble collapse jet angle, movement distance, and velocity are in good agreement with the theoretical Kelvin impulse predictions. (3) As the short-to-long axis ratio increases, the differences in the distributions of the Kelvin impulse intensity and the direction near the elliptical wall gradually become larger, and the range of the influence of the impulse intensity expands.

In this paper, we study the quantum security of block ciphers based on Simon’s period-finding quantum algorithm. We explored the relations between periodic functions and truncated differentials. The basic observation is that truncated differentials with a probability of 1 can be used to construct periodic functions, and two such constructions are presented with the help of a new notion called difference-annihilation matrix. This technique releases us from the tedious manual work of verifying the period of functions. Based on these new constructions, we find an 8-round quantum distinguisher for LBlock and a 9/10/11/13/15-round quantum distinguisher for SIMON-32/48/64/96/128 which are the best results as far as we know. Besides, to explore the security bounds of block cipher structures against Simon’s algorithm based quantum attacks, the unified structure, which unifies the Feistel, Lai-Massey, and most generalized Feistel structures, is studied. We estimate the exact round number of probability 1 truncated differentials that one can construct. Based on these results, one can easily check the quantum security of specific block ciphers that are special cases of unified structures, when the details of the non-linear building blocks are not considered.

Abstract Although it is known that the frequency and intensity of heatwaves are affected by the El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO), unknown are the ENSO modulations on the moving properties (e.g., moving distance and speed) of spatiotemporally contiguous heatwaves. Here, we investigate the relationship between ENSO and the moving patterns of contiguous heatwaves. We show that contiguous heatwaves are likely more frequent, more persistent, and longer‐traveling, but slower‐moving during El Niño than La Niña episodes. The differences in the tropical contiguous heatwaves between El Niño and La Niña are influenced by persistent high‐pressure anomalies. During the following summers, El Niño can induce anomalous atmospheric circulation characterized by an intensified subsidence over the western North Pacific and ascending motion over the tropical Indian and Pacific Oceans. These features provide favorable conditions for the occurrence and maintenance of contiguous heatwaves.

Stipa breviflora is a dominant species in the desert steppe of Northern China. Grazing is the main land use pattern of grassland, which could cause a variety of adaptive evolutionary mechanisms in plant community composition as well as individual plant growth and morphological characteristics. However, very little is known about the morphological structure and transcriptional regulation response to different grazing intensities in S. breviflora. In this study, transcriptome and anatomical analyses of S. breviflora under different grazing intensities, including no grazing, moderate grazing, and heavy grazing, were performed. The anatomical analysis results showed that epidermis cells and xylems significantly thicken with grazing intensity, suggesting that grazing results in increasing lignification. Furthermore, the components of cell walls such as lignin, cellulose, hemicellulose, and pectin were all increased dramatically and significantly under both moderate and heavy grazing. Transcriptome analysis showed that the differentially expressed genes related to different grazing intensities were also engaged in plant cell wall formation and in photosynthesis and respiration. In addition, the activities of ATP synthase and Rubisco-activating enzyme increased significantly with enhanced grazing intensity and differed significantly between moderate and heavy grazing intensities. The trends in transcriptome and plant phenotype changes are consistent. Taken together, these results indicated that S. breviflora has evolved a grazing tolerance strategy under long-term grazing conditions, influencing photosynthesis and respiration in terms of its own structure and enzyme activities in the body, to maintain normal life activities under different grazing conditions.

Abstract Background Adenomatous polyps (APs) with inflammation are risk factors for colorectal cancer. However, the role of inflammation-related gut microbiota in promoting the progression of APs is unknown. Methods Sequencing of the 16S rRNA gene was conducted to identify characteristic bacteria in AP tissues and normal mucosa. Then, the roles of inflammation-related bacteria were clarified by Spearman correlation analysis. Furthermore, colorectal HT-29 cells, normal colon NCM460 cells, and azoxymethane-treated mice were used to investigate the effects of the characteristic bacteria on progression of APs. Results The expression levels of inflammation-related markers (diamine oxidase, d-lactate, C-reactive protein, tumor necrosis factor-α, interleukin-6 and interleukin-1β) were increased, whereas the expression levels of anti-inflammatory factors (interleukin-4 and interleukin-10) were significantly decreased in AP patients as compared to healthy controls. Solobacterium moorei (S. moorei) was enriched in AP tissues and fecal samples, and significantly positively correlated with serum inflammation-related markers. In vitro, S. moorei preferentially attached to HT-29 cells and stimulated cell proliferation and production of pro-inflammatory factors. In vivo, the incidence of intestinal dysplasia was significantly increased in the S. moorei group. Gavage of mice with S. moorei upregulated production of pro-inflammatory factors, suppressed proliferation of CD4+ and CD8+cells, and disrupted the integrity of the intestinal barrier, thereby accelerating progression of APs. Conclusions S. moorei accelerated the progression of AP in mice via activation of the NF-κB signaling pathway, chronic low-grade inflammation, and intestinal barrier disruption. Targeted reduction of S. moorei presents a potential strategy to prevent the progression of APs.

Experimental investigations on dynamic in-plane compressive behavior of a plain weave composite were performed using the split Hopkinson pressure bar. A quantitative criterion for calculating the constant strain rate of composites was established. Then the upper limit of strain rate, restricted by stress equilibrium and constant loading rate, was rationally estimated and confirmed by tests. Within the achievable range of 0.001/s–895/s, it was found that the strength increased first and subsequently decreased as the strain rate increased. This feature was also reflected by the turning point (579/s) of the bilinear model for strength prediction. The transition in failure mechanism, from local opening damage to completely splitting destruction, was mainly responsible for such strain rate effects. And three major failure modes were summarized under microscopic observations: fiber fracture, inter-fiber fracture, and interface delamination. Finally, by introducing a nonlinear damage variable, a simplified ZWT model was developed to characterize the dynamic mechanical response. Excellent agreement was shown between the experimental and simulated results.

Plasma membrane intrinsic proteins (PIPs) are conserved plant aquaporins that transport small molecules across the plasma membrane to trigger instant stress responses and maintain cellular homeostasis under biotic and abiotic stress. To elucidate their roles in plant immunity to pathogen attack, we characterized the expression patterns, subcellular localizations, and H2O2-transport ability of 11 OsPIPs in rice (Oryza sativa), and identified OsPIP2;6 as necessary for rice disease resistance. OsPIP2;6 resides on the plasma membrane and facilitates cytoplasmic import of the immune signaling molecule H2O2. Knockout of OsPIP2;6 increases rice susceptibility to Magnaporthe oryzae, indicating a positive function in plant immunity. OsPIP2;6 interacts with OsPIP2;2, which has been reported to increase rice resistance to pathogens via H2O2 transport. Our findings suggest that OsPIP2;6 cooperates with OsPIP2;2 as a defense signal transporter complex during plant–pathogen interaction.

Abstract Photovoltaic (PV) modules are prone to short circuits, open circuits, cracks, which can bring serious harmful effects. It is difficult to establish the corresponding PV fault models to diagnose the status of PV strings. The paper proposes a machine learning‐based stacking classifier (MLSC) for accurate fault diagnosis of PV strings. Specifically, for the operating state of PV modules, the parameter sensitivity algorithm is used to analyze the impact of characteristic factors on the characteristics of PV modules. Then based on the characteristic factors (irradiance, temperature, current, and power), MLSC is proposed to realize the accurate fault diagnosis of PV strings. This structure of MLSC is to integrate all kinds of classifiers by stacking to play the characteristics of each classifier. It combines the characteristics of various types of machine learning algorithms to improve the overall classification effect by using the advantages of each classifier. Finally, experiments reveal that MLSC improves the accuracy of PV fault diagnosis.

Abstract Current treatment for functional dyspepsia (FD) has limited and unsustainable efficacy. Probiotics have the sustainable potential to alleviate FD. This randomized controlled clinical trial (Chinese Clinical Trial Registry, ChiCTR2000041430) assigned 200 FD patients to receive placebo, positive-drug (rabeprazole), or Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis BL-99 (BL-99; low, high doses) for 8-week. The primary outcome was the clinical response rate (CRR) of FD score after 8-week treatment. The secondary outcomes were CRR of FD score at other periods, and PDS, EPS, serum indicators, fecal microbiota and metabolites. The CRR in FD score for the BL-99_high group [45 (90.0%)] was significantly higher than that for placebo [29 (58.0%), p = 0.001], BL-99_low [37 (74.0%), p = 0.044] and positive_control [35 (70.0%), p = 0.017] groups after 8-week treatment. This effect was sustained until 2-week after treatment but disappeared 8-week after treatment. Further metagenomic and metabolomics revealed that BL-99 promoted the accumulation of SCFA-producing microbiota and the increase of SCFA levels in stool and serum, which may account for the increase of serum gastrin level. This study supports the potential use of BL-99 for the treatment of FD.

Abstract We report the development of a head-mounted photoacoustic fiberscope for cerebral imaging in a freely behaving mouse. The 4.5-gram imaging probe has a 9-µm lateral resolution and 0.2-Hz frame rate over a 1.2-mm wide area. The probe can continuously monitor cerebral oxygenation and hemodynamic responses at single-vessel resolution, showing significantly different cerebrovascular responses to external stimuli under anesthesia and in the freely moving state. For example, when subjected to high-concentration CO2 respiration, enhanced oxygenation to compensate for hypercapnia can be visualized due to cerebral regulation in the freely moving state. Comparative studies exhibit significantly weakened compensation capabilities in obese rodents. This new imaging modality can be used for investigating both normal and pathological cerebrovascular functions and shows great promise for studying cerebral activity, disorders and their treatments.
