Abstract

We review recent studies by the CTEQ-TEA group toward the development of a new generation of precision parton distribution functions in the nucleon for advanced studies at the high-luminosity LHC and in other experiments. Abstract

This report summarizes the latest developments in the CTEQ-TEA global analysis of parton distribution functions (PDFs) in the nucleon. The focus is on recent NNLO fits to high-precision LHC data at 8 and 13 TeV, including Drell-Yan, jet, and top-quark pair production, pursued on the way toward the release of the new generation of CTEQ-TEA general-purpose PDFs. The report also discusses advancements in statistical and numerical methods for PDF determination and uncertainty quantification, highlighting the importance of robust and replicable uncertainties for high-stakes observables. Abstract

The International Muon Collider Collaboration (IMCC) [1] was established in 2020 following the recommendations of the European Strategy for Particle Physics (ESPP) and the implementation of the European Strategy for Particle Physics-Accelerator R&D Roadmap by the Laboratory Directors Group [2], hereinafter referred to as the the European LDG roadmap. The Muon Collider Study (MuC) covers the accelerator complex, detectors and physics for a future muon collider. In 2023, European Commission support was obtained for a design study of a muon collider (MuCol) [3]. This project started on 1st March 2023, with work-packages aligned with the overall muon collider studies. In preparation of and during the 2021-22 U.S. Snowmass process, the muon collider project parameters, technical studies and physics performance studies were performed and presented in great detail. Recently, the P5 panel [4] in the U.S. recommended a muon collider R&D, proposed to join the IMCC and envisages that the U.S. should prepare to host a muon collider, calling this their "muon shot". Abstract

Splitting probabilities quantify the likelihood of a given outcome out of competitive events for general random processes. This key observable of random walk theory, historically introduced as the Gambler's ruin problem for a player in a casino, has a broad range of applications beyond mathematical finance in evolution genetics, physics and chemistry, such as allele fixation, polymer translocation, protein folding and more generally competitive reactions. The statistics of competitive events is well understood for memoryless (Markovian) processes. However, in complex systems such as polymer fluids, the motion of a particle should typically be described as a process with memory. Appart from scaling theories and perturbative approaches in one-dimension, the outcome of competitive events is much less characterized analytically for processes with memory. Here, we introduce an analytical approach that provides the splitting probabilities for general $d$-dimensional non-Markovian Gaussian processes. This analysis shows that splitting probabilities are critically controlled by the out of equilibrium statistics of reactive trajectories, observed after the first passage. This hallmark of non-Markovian dynamics and its quantitative impact on splitting probabilities are directly evidenced in a prototypical experimental reaction scheme in viscoelastic fluids. Altogether, these results reveal both experimentally and theoretically the importance of memory effects on competitive reactions.

Using $2.93~\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ collision data collected with the BESIII detector at the center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV,we investigate the semileptonic decays $D^+\to \pi^+\pi^- \ell^+\nu_\ell$ ($\ell=e$ and $\mu$). The $D^+\to f_0(500)\mu^+\nu_\mu$ decay is observed for the first time. By analyzing simultaneously the differential decay rates of $D^+\to f_0(500) \mu^+\nu_\mu$ and $D^+\to f_0(500) e^+\nu_e$ in different $\ell^+\nu_\ell$ four-momentum transfer intervals, the product of the relevant hadronic form factor $f^{f_0}_{+}(0)$ and the magnitude of the $c\to d$ Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element $|V_{cd}|$ is determined to be $f_{+}^{f_0} (0)|V_{cd}|=0.143\pm0.014_{\rm stat}\pm0.011_{\rm syst}$ for the first time. With the input of $|V_{cd}|$ from the global fit in the standard model, we determine $f_{+}^{f_0} (0)=0.63\pm0.06_{\rm stat}\pm0.05_{\rm syst}$. The absolute branching fractions of $D^+\to f_0(500)_{(\pi^+\pi^-)}\mu^+\nu_\mu$ and $D^+\to \rho^0_{(\pi^+\pi^-)} \mu^+\nu_\mu$ are determined as $(0.72\pm0.13_{\rm stat}\pm0.08_{\rm syst})\times10^{-3}$ and $(1.64\pm0.13_{\rm stat}\pm0.10_{\rm syst})\times 10^{-3}$. Combining these results with those of previous BESIII measurements on their semielectronic counterparts from the same data sample, we test lepton flavor universality by measuring the branching fraction ratios ${\mathcal B}_{D^+\to \rho^0 \mu^+\nu_\mu}/{\mathcal B}_{D^+\to \rho^0 e^+\nu_e}=0.88\pm0.10$ and ${\mathcal B}_{D^+\to f_0(500) \mu^+\nu_\mu}/{\mathcal B}_{D^+\to f_0(500) e^+\nu_e}=1.14\pm0.26$, which are compatible with the standard model expectation., Comment: Final version accepted for publication

They were randomly divided into 220 modeling group and 220 validation group based on simple randomization. The two groups were divided into postpartum hemorrhage group and postpartum non bleeding group according to whether postpartum hemorrhage occurred.Results: In the modeling group, the incidence of postpartum hemorrhage in the second cesarean section was 15.00%; the Logistic regression model showed that placenta previa, operation time, prenatal anemia, placenta accreta, uterine inertia were the independent risk factors of postpartum hemorrhage in the second cesarean section (P < 0.05). ROC results showed that AUC of predicting the risk of postpartum hemorrhage in the second cesarean section was 0.824. The slope of calibration curve is close to 1, Hosmer-Lemeshow goodness of fit test showed x2= 7.585, P = 0.250. The external verification results show that the AUC is 0.840, and the predicted probability of the calibration curve is close to the actual probability.Conclusion: Based on the five risk factors of postpartum hemorrhage in the second cesarean section, including placenta previa, operation time, prenatal anemia, placenta accreta and uterine inertia, the nomogram model for predicting the risk of postpartum hemorrhage in the second cesarean section has good accuracy and differentiation.Keywords: the second cesarean section, postpartum hemorrhage, nomogram model

Abstract

This report was prepared on behalf of three Energy Frontier Topical Groups of the Snowmass 2021 Community Planning Exercise. It summarizes the status and implications of studies of strong interactions in high-energy experiments and QCD theory. We emphasize the rich landscape and broad impact of these studies in the decade ahead. Hadronic interactions play a central role in the high-luminosity Large Hadron Collider (LHC) physics program, and strong synergies exist between the (HL-)LHC and planned or proposed experiments at the U.S. Electron-Ion Collider, CERN forward physics experiments, high-intensity facilities, and future TeV-range lepton and hadron colliders. Prospects for precision determinations of the strong coupling and a variety of nonperturbative distribution and fragmentation functions are examined. We also review the potential of envisioned tests of new dynamical regimes of QCD in high-energy and high-density scattering processes with nucleon, ion, and photon initial states. The important role of the high-energy heavy-ion program in studies of nuclear structure and the nuclear medium, and its connections with QCD involving nucleons are summarized. We address ongoing and future theoretical advancements in multi-loop QCD computations, lattice QCD, jet substructure, and event generators. Abstract

A multi-TeV muon collider offers a spectacular opportunity in the direct exploration of the energy frontier. Offering a combination of unprecedented energy collisions in a comparatively clean leptonic environment, a high energy muon collider has the unique potential to provide both precision measurements and the highest energy reach in one machine that cannot be paralleled by any currently available technology. The topic generated a lot of excitement in Snowmass meetings and continues to attract a large number of supporters, including many from the early career community. In light of this very strong interest within the US particle physics community, Snowmass Energy, Theory and Accelerator Frontiers created a cross-frontier Muon Collider Forum in November of 2020. The Forum has been meeting on a monthly basis and organized several topical workshops dedicated to physics, accelerator technology, and detector R&D. Findings of the Forum are summarized in this report.

Abstract

An overwhelming number of theoretical predictions for hadron colliders require parton distribution functions (PDFs), which are an important ingredient of theory infrastructure for the next generation of high-energy experiments. This whitepaper summarizes the status and future prospects for determination of high-precision PDFs applicable in a wide range of energies and experiments, in particular in precision tests of the Standard Model and in new physics searches at the high-luminosity Large Hadron Collider and Electron-Ion Collider. We discuss the envisioned advancements in experimental measurements, QCD theory, global analysis methodology, and computing that are necessary to bring unpolarized PDFs in the nucleon to the N2LO and N3LO accuracy in the QCD coupling strength. Special attention is given to the new tasks that emerge in the era of the precision PDF analysis, such as those focusing on the robust control of systematic factors both in experimental measurements and theoretical computations. Various synergies between experimental and theoretical studies of the hadron structure are explored, including opportunities for studying PDFs for nuclear and meson targets, PDFs with electroweak contributions or dependence on the transverse momentum, for incisive comparisons between phenomenological models for the PDFs and computations on discrete lattice, and for cross-fertilization with machine learning/AI approaches. Abstract

Electron Ion Collider (EIC) is a particle accelerator facility planned for construction at Brookhaven National Laboratory on Long Island, New York by the United States Department of Energy. EIC will provide capabilities of colliding beams of polarized electrons with polarized beams of proton and light ions. EIC will be one of the largest and most sophisticated new accelerator facilities worldwide, and the only new large-scale accelerator facility planned for construction in the United States in the next few decades. The versatility, resolving power and intensity of EIC will present many new opportunities to address some of the crucial and fundamental open scientific questions in particle physics. Abstract

We provide an overview of the status of Monte-Carlo event generators for high-energy particle physics. Guided by the experimental needs and requirements, we highlight areas of active development, and opportunities for future improvements. Particular emphasis is given to physics models and algorithms that are employed across a variety of experiments. These common themes in event generator development lead to a more comprehensive understanding of physics at the highest energies and intensities, and allow models to be tested against a wealth of data that have been accumulated over the past decades. A cohesive approach to event generator development will allow these models to be further improved and systematic uncertainties to be reduced, directly contributing to future experimental success. Event generators are part of a much larger ecosystem of computational tools. They typically involve a number of unknown model parameters that must be tuned to experimental data, while maintaining the integrity of the underlying physics models. Making both these data, and the analyses with which they have been obtained accessible to future users is an essential aspect of open science and data preservation. Abstract

Theoretical predictions for particle production cross sections and decays at colliders rely heavily on perturbative Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) calculations, expressed as an expansion in powers of the strong coupling constant $\alpha_s$. The current $\mathcal{O}(1\%)$ uncertainty of the QCD coupling evaluated at the reference Z boson mass, $\alpha_s(m_Z) = 0.1179 \pm 0.0009$, is one of the limiting factors to more precisely describe multiple processes at current and future colliders. A reduction of this uncertainty is thus a prerequisite to perform precision tests of the Standard Model as well as searches for new physics. This report provides a comprehensive summary of the state-of-the-art, challenges, and prospects in the experimental and theoretical study of the strong coupling. The current $\alpha_s(m_Z)$ world average is derived from a combination of seven categories of observables: (i) lattice QCD, (ii) hadronic $\tau$ decays, (iii) deep-inelastic scattering and parton distribution functions fits, (iv) electroweak boson decays, hadronic final-states in (v) $e^+e^-$, (vi) e-p, and (vii) p-p collisions, and (viii) quarkonia decays and masses. We review the current status of each of these seven $\alpha_s(m_Z)$ extraction methods, discuss novel $\alpha_s$ determinations, and examine the averaging method used to obtain the world-average value. Each of the methods discussed provides a ``wish list'' of experimental and theoretical developments required in order to achieve the goal of a per-mille precision on $\alpha_s(m_Z)$ within the next decade., Comment: 135 pages, 45 figures. Abstract

The stability of copolymer tethers is investigated theoretically. Self-assembly of diblockor triblock copolymers can lead to tubular polymersomes which are known experimentallyto undergo shape instability under thermal, chemical and tension stresses. It leads to aperiodic modulation of the radius which evolves to assembly-line pearls connected by tinytethers. We study the contributions of shear surface viscosity and spontaneous curvatureand their interplay to understand the pearling instability. The performed linear analysisof stability of this cylinder-to-pearls transition shows that such systems are unstable if themembrane tension is larger than a finite critical value contrary to the Rayleigh-Plateau in-stability, an already known or if the spontaneous curvature is in a specific range whichdepends on membrane tension. For the case of spontaneous curvature-induced shape insta-bility, two dynamical modes are identified. The first one is analog to the tension-inducedinstability with a marginal mode. Its wavenumber associated to the most unstable modedecreases continuously to zero as membrane viscosity increases. The unexpected secondone has a finite range of unstable wavenumbers. The wavenumber of the most unstablemode tends to a constant as membrane viscosity increases. In this mode, its growth ratebecomes independent of the bulk viscosity in the limit of high membrane viscosity andbehaves as a pure viscous surface., Comment: 28 pages, 6 figures

Abstract

To cope with fast-fluctuating distributed energy resources (DERs) and uncontrolled loads, this paper formulates a time-varying optimization problem for distribution grids with DERs and develops a novel non-iterative algorithm to track the optimal solutions. Different from existing methods, the proposed approach does not require iterations during the sampling interval. It only needs to perform a single one-step calculation at each interval to obtain the evolution of the optimal trajectory, which demonstrates fast calculation and online-tracking capability with an asymptotically vanishing error. Specifically, the designed approach contains two terms: a prediction term tracking the change in the optimal solution based on the time-varying nature of system power, and a correction term pushing the solution toward the optimum based on Newton's method. Moreover, the proposed algorithm can be applied in the absence of an accurate network model by leveraging voltage measurements to identify the true voltage sensitivity parameters. The aim of this study was to develop an easy-to-use predictive model based on medical history data at admission, systemic immune inflammatory index (SII), and systemic inflammatory response index (SIRI) to predict the risk of in-hospital mortality in elderly patients with AMI.Methods: We enrolled 1550 elderly AMI patients (aged ≥ 60 years) with complete medical history data and randomized them 5:5 to the training and validation cohorts. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were used to screen risk factors associated with outcome events (in-hospital death) and to establish a nomogram. The discrimination, calibration, and clinical application value of nomogram were evaluated based on receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve, calibration curve, and decision curve analysis (DCA), respectively.Results: The results of multivariate logistic regression showed that age, body mass index (BMI), previous stroke, diabetes, SII, and SIRI were associated with in-hospital death, and these indicators will be included in the final prediction model, which can be obtained by asking the patient’s medical history and blood routine examination in the early stage of admission and can improve the utilization rate of the prediction model. The areas under the ROC curve for the training and validation cohorts nomogram were 0.824 (95% CI 0.796 to 0.851) and 0.809 (95% CI 0.780 to 0.836), respectively. Calibration curves and DCA showed that nomogram could better predict the risk of in-hospital mortality in elderly patients with AMI.Conclusion: The nomogram constructed by combining SII, SIRI, and partial medical history data (age, BMI, previous stroke, and diabetes) at admission has a good predictive effect on the risk of in-hospital death in elderly patients with AMI.Keywords: coronary artery disease, elderly, systemic inflammatory markers, nomogram, prediction model

There were 28 cases in the alcohol group (Group A) and 44 in the radiofrequency group (Group R). Visual analog scores (VAS) were collected from patients at different time points, as well as preoperative and postoperative finger end perfusion index (PI) and hand temperature (T). The efficiency, postoperative recurrence rate, complications, and improvement in postoperative quality of life were observed in both groups.Results: Pain scores at different follow-up times after surgery decreased in both groups compared to the preoperative period (P < 0.05). Postoperative T and PI were higher in both groups than preoperatively all (P < 0.05). The recurrence rate was higher in the R group than in the A group. Postoperative complications were observed in 13.6% and 25% of patients in groups R and A, respectively. Meanwhile, the postoperative quality of life improved in both groups, but the radiofrequency (RF) group was better than the alcohol group in terms of improvement in quality of life (P < 0.05).Conclusion: Both CT-guided CTS and RFTC of the thoracic sympathetic nerve provided good treatment outcomes. The main treatment for abdominal sepsis is an emergency laparotomy for source control. However, surgical trauma also causes inflammation, and patients become susceptible to postoperative complications. Therefore, it is necessary to identify biomarkers that can be used to distinguish sepsis from abdominal infection. This prospective study investigated whether cytokine levels in the peritoneum could predict complications and indicate severity of sepsis following emergency laparotomy.Methods: We prospectively observed 97 patients with abdominal infection admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). After emergency laparotomy,SEPSIS-3 criteria were used for the diagnosis of sepsis or septic shock. Blood and peritoneal fluid samples were drawn at postoperative admission to the ICU and cytokine concentrations were measured by flow cytometry.Results: Fifty-eight postoperative patients were enrolled. We found significant elevations in the peritoneal concentrations of IL-1β, IL-6, TNF-α, IL-17, and IL-2 in patients with sepsis or septic shock compared to the patients without sepsis after surgery. Positive correlations between levels of these peritoneal cytokines with APACHE II scores were found: IL-6, in particular, had the highest correlation coefficient of 0.833. Meanwhile, IL-10 in blood, MCP-1 and IL-8 in both blood and peritoneum were simultaneously increased in patients with sepsis and septic shock, and also positively correlated with disease severity.Conclusion: The cytokine storm that occurs in the abdominal cavity after emergency laparotomy may be the main mechanism leading to sepsis. It may be valuable to measure IL-1β, IL-6, TNF-α,IL-17, IL-2, MCP-1, and IL-8 in the peritoneal fluid, combined with serum IL-10, MCP-1 and IL-8, in a panel of cytokines, to assess the severity of sepsis and predict mortality from abdominal infection after emergency laparotomy.Keywords: abdominal infection, emergency laparotomy, peritoneal cytokine, cytokine storm

Abstract

We provide an overview of the status of Monte-Carlo event generators for high-energy particle physics. Guided by the experimental needs and requirements, we highlight areas of active development, and opportunities for future improvements. Particular emphasis is given to physics models and algorithms that are employed across a variety of experiments. These common themes in event generator development lead to a more comprehensive understanding of physics at the highest energies and intensities, and allow models to be tested against a wealth of data that have been accumulated over the past decades. A cohesive approach to event generator development will allow these models to be further improved and systematic uncertainties to be reduced, directly contributing to future experimental success. Event generators are part of a much larger ecosystem of computational tools. They typically involve a number of unknown model parameters that must be tuned to experimental data, while maintaining the integrity of the underlying physics models. Making both these data, and the analyses with which they have been obtained accessible to future users is an essential aspect of open science and data preservation. It ensures the consistency of physics models across a variety of experiments.

Muscle thickness (MT) assessed by ultrasonography (US) may be a better determinant and/or predictor of muscle condition than ASMI. Thus, we compared it to the ASMI determined by the BIA.Patients and Methods: Our study included 165 ambulatory older adults (84 males, 81 females, mean age: 76.82 years). The ASMI by the BIA method, MT by US, and the distribution of body mass index (BMI) and body fat percentage (BFP) were examined using defined values for men and women. These were used as the basis for examining the association of MT and ASMI with handgrip strength (HGS), leg muscle strength (LMS), gait speed (GS), and echo intensity (EI). We compared HGS, LMS, GS, and EI for high and low ASMI among lower BMI or BFP. The same was also done for MT assessed by US.Results: MT, as well as ASMI, was strongly associated with HGS and LMS. There was a correlation between MT and GS and EI but not between ASMI and GS and EI. There were significant differences in the prevalence between high ASMI and high MT or low ASMI and low MT in those with lower BMI or BFP. In non-overweight participants, HGS, LMS, GS, and EI were significantly higher in those with high MT than in those with low MT; however, there were no significant differences in them between those with high and low ASMI.Conclusion: In the non-overweight group, the MT assessment by US showed a stronger relationship to muscle strength and muscle quality than the ASMI assessment by BIA. Abstract

We have carried out small angle neutron scattering measurements on single crystals of two members of the family of cubic rare-earth titanate pyrochlores that display ferromagnetic Curie-Weiss susceptibilities,Yb$_2$Ti$_2$O$_7$ and Ho$_2$Ti$_2$O$_7$. Ho$_2$Ti$_2$O$_7$ is established as displaying a prototypical classical dipolar spin ice ground state, while Yb$_2$Ti$_2$O$_7$ has been purported as a candidate for a quantum spin ice ground state. While both materials have been well studied with neutron scattering techniques, neither has been previously explored in single crystal form with small angle neutron scattering (SANS). Our results for Yb$_2$Ti$_2$O$_7$ show distinct SANS features below its $\Theta_{CW}$$\sim$ 0.50 K, with rods of diffuse scattering extending along $\langle 111 \rangle$ directions in reciprocal space, off-rod scattering which peaks in temperature near $\Theta_{CW}$, and quasi-Bragg scattering at very small angles which correlates well with T$_C$ $\sim$ 0.26 K. The quasi-Bragg scattering corresponds to finite extent ferromagnetic domains $\sim$ 140 \AA$~$ across, at the lowest temperatures. We interpret the $\langle 111\rangle$ rods of diffuse scattering as arising from domain boundaries between the finite-extent ferromagnetic domains. In contrast the SANS signal in Ho$_2$Ti$_2$O$_7$ is isotropic within the (HHL) plane around $\textbf{Q}$=0. However the strength of this overall SANS signal has a temperature dependence resembling that of the magnetic heat capacity, with a peak near 3 K. Below the break between the field-cooled and the zero-field cooled susceptibility in Ho$_2$Ti$_2$O$_7$ at $\sim$ 0.60 K, the SANS signal is very low, approaching zero., Comment: 10 pages, 9 figures

37. How to rationally design homogeneous catalysts for efficient CO2 electroreduction?

Abstract

Electrified converting CO2 into valuable fuels and chemicals using a homogeneous electrochemical CO2 reduction (CO2ER) approach simplifies the operation, providing a potential option for decoupling energy harvesting and renewable chemical production. These merits benefit the scenarios where decentralization and intermittent power are key factors. This perspective aims to provide an overview of recent progress in homogeneous CO2ER. We introduce firstly the fundamentals chemistry of the homogeneous CO2ER, followed by a summary of the crucial factors and the important criteria broadly employed for evaluating the performance. We then highlight the recent advances in the most widely explored transition-metal coordinate complexes for the C1 and multicarbon (C2+) products from homogeneous CO2ER. Finally, we summarize the remaining challenges and opportunities for developing homogeneous electrocatalysts for efficient CO2ER. This perspective is expected to favor the rational design of efficient homogeneous electrocatalysts for selective CO2ER toward renewable fuels and feedstocks.

Abstract

Accurate traffic flow prediction is critically essential to transportation safety and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). Existing approaches generally assume the traffic data are complete and reliable. However, in real scenarios, the traffic data are usually sparse and noisy due to the unreliability of the road sensors. Meanwhile, the global semantic traffic correlations among the road links over the road network are largely ignored by existing works. To address these issues, in this paper we study the novel problem of reliable traffic prediction with noisy and sparse traffic data and propose a Multi-View Bayesian Spatio-Temporal Graph Neural Network (MVB-STNet for short) to effectively address it. Specifically, we first construct the traffic flow graphs from two views, the structural traffic graph based on the topological closeness of the road sensors, and the semantic traffic graph which is constructed based on the traffic flow correlations among all the road sensors. Then the features of the two views are learned simultaneously to more broadly capture the spatial correlations. Inspired by the effectiveness of Bayesian neural networks in handling data uncertainty, we design the Bayesian Spatio-Temporal Long Short-Term Memory Net layer to more effectively learn the spatio-temporal features from the sparse and noisy traffic data. Extensive evaluations are conducted over two real traffic datasets. The results show that our proposal significantly improves current state-of-the-arts in terms of traffic flow prediction with sparse and noisy data.

Abstract

Using $2.93~\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ collision data collected with the BESIII detector at the center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV, we investigate the semileptonic decays $D^+\to \pi^+\pi^- \ell^+\nu_\ell$ ($\ell=e$ and $\mu$). The $D^+\to f_0(500)\mu^+\nu_\mu$ decay is observed for the first time. By analyzing simultaneously the differential decay rates of $D^+\to f_0(500) \mu^+\nu_\mu$ and $D^+\to f_0(500) e^+\nu_e$ in different $\ell^+\nu_\ell$ four-momentum transfer intervals, the product of the relevant hadronic form factor $f^{f_0}_{+}(0)$ and the magnitude of the $c\to d$ Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element $|V_{cd}|$ is determined to be $f_{+}^{f_0} (0)|V_{cd}|=0.0787\pm0.0060_{\rm stat}\pm0.0033_{\rm syst}$ for the first time. With the input of $|V_{cd}|$ from the global fit in the standard model, we determine $f_{+}^{f_0} (0)=0.350\pm0.027_{\rm stat}\pm0.015_{\rm syst}$. The absolute branching fractions of $D^+\to f_0(500)_{(\pi^+\pi^-)}\mu^+\nu_\mu$ and $D^+\to \rho^0_{(\pi^+\pi^-)} \mu^+\nu_\mu$ are determined as $(0.72\pm0.13_{\rm stat}\pm0.10_{\rm syst})\times10^{-3}$ and $(1.64\pm0.13_{\rm stat}\pm0.11_{\rm syst})\times 10^{-3}$. Combining these results with those of previous BESIII measurements on their semielectronic counterparts from the same data sample, we test lepton flavor universality by measuring the branching fraction ratios ${\mathcal B}_{D^+\to \rho^0 \mu^+\nu_\mu}/{\mathcal B}_{D^+\to \rho^0 e^+\nu_e}=0.88\pm0.10$ and ${\mathcal B}_{D^+\to f_0(500) \mu^+\nu_\mu}/{\mathcal B}_{D^+\to f_0(500) e^+\nu_e}=1.14\pm0.28$, which are compatible with the standard model expectation., Comment: Supplemental Materials added in this version

Our research team has proven that inhaling 2% hydrogen gas (H2) can effectively improve sepsis and related organ damage, but the specific molecular mechanism of its role is not clear. In this study, isobaric tags for relative and absolute quantitation (iTRAQ)-based quantitative proteomics analysis was used for studying the effect of H2 on intestinal injury in sepsis.Methods: Male C57BL/6J mice were used to prepare a sepsis model by cecal ligation and puncture (CLP). The 7-day survival rates of mice were measured. 4-kd fluorescein isothiocyanate-conjugated Dextran (FITC-dextran) blood concentration measurement, combined with hematoxylin-eosinstain (HE) staining and Western blotting, was used to study the effect of H2 on sepsis-related intestinal damage. iTRAQ-based liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) analysis was used for studying the proteomics associated with H2 for the treatment of intestinal injury.Results: H2 can significantly improve the 7-day survival rates of sepsis mice. The load of blood and peritoneal lavage bacteria was increased, and H2 treatment can significantly reduce it. CLP mice had significant intestinal damage, and inhalation of 2% hydrogen could significantly reduce this damage. All 4194 proteins were quantified, of which 199 differentially expressed proteins were associated with the positive effect of H2 on sepsis. Functional enrichment analysis indicated that H2 may reduce intestinal injury in septic mice through the effects of thyroid hormone synthesis and nitrogen metabolism signaling pathway. Western blot showed that H2 was reduced by down-regulating the expressions of deleted in malignant brain tumors 1 protein (DMBT1), insulin receptor substrate 2 (IRS2), N-myc downregulated gene 1 (NDRG1) and serum amyloid A-1 protein (SAA1) intestinal damage in sepsis mice.Conclusion: A total of 199 differential proteins were related with H2 in the intestinal protection of sepsis. H2-related differential proteins were notably enriched in the following signaling pathways, including thyroid hormone synthesis signaling pathway, nitrogen metabolism signaling pathways, digestion and absorption signaling pathways (vitamins, proteins and fats). A number of antibody-based therapeutic strategies have been explored to block c-Met or HGF in cancers; however, clinical efficacy has been very limited, indicating that blockade of c-Met signal alone is not sufficient. Thus, an alternative approach is to develop an immunotherapy strategy for c-Met-overexpressing cancers. c-Met/CD3 bispecific antibody (BsAb) could bridge CD3-positive T lymphocytes and tumor cells to result in potent tumor cell killing.Materials and Methods: A bispecific antibody, BS001, which binds both c-Met and CD3, was generated using a novel BsAb platform. Western blotting and T cells-mediated killing assays were utilized to evaluate the BsAb’s effects on cell proliferation, survival and signal transduction in tumor cells. Subcutaneous tumor mouse models were used to analyze the in vivo anti-tumor effects of the bispecific antibody and its combination therapy with PD-L1 antibody.Results: BS001 showed potent T-cell mediated tumor cells killing in vitro. Furthermore, BS001 inhibited phosphorylation of c-Met and downstream signal transduction in tumor cells. In A549 lung cancer xenograft model, BS001 inhibited tumor growth and increased the proportion of activated CD56+ tumor infiltrating lymphocytes. In vivo combination therapy of BS001 with Atezolizumab (an anti-programmed cell death protein1-ligand (PD-L1) antibody) showed more potent tumor inhibition than monotherapies. Similarly, in SKOV3 xenograft model, BS001 showed a significant efficacy in tumor growth inhibition and tumor recurrence was not observed in more than half of mice treated with a combination of BS001 and Pembrolizumab.Conclusion: c-Met/CD3 bispecific antibody BS001 exhibited potent anti-tumor activities in vitro and in vivo, which was achieved through two distinguished mechanisms: through antibody-mediated tumor cell killing by T cells and through inhibition of c-Met signal transduction.Keywords: c-Met, bispecific antibody, lung cancer, ovarian cancer, checkpoint antibody

Constructing a monovalent one-armed antibody has been reported to be an effective way to create an inhibitory anti-c-Met antibody.Materials and methods: In the present study, a novel monovalent one-armed anti-c-Met antibody was constructed using the knobs-into-holes technology, and its inhibitory effects against HCC and the underlying mechanisms were explored.Results: The one-armed anti-c-Met antibody blocked the hepatocyte growth factor (HGF)/c-Met interaction and the subsequent signal transduction, including phosphorylation of c-Met, Grb2-associated binding protein 1(Gab-1), extracellular regulated protein kinases 1/2(Erk1/2), and Akt, also referred to as protein kinase B (PKB) in HCC cell line HepG2. Furthermore, the autocrine stimulation of HepG2 cell proliferation and HGF-induced HCC cell migration were strongly inhibited by the one-armed anti-c-Met antibody. In addition, the antibody also reduced the HGF-induced proliferation and tube formation of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs). Treating HepG2-bearing mice with the one-armed anti-c-Met antibody significantly inhibited the tumor growth in the xenograft nude mouse model.Conclusion: The one-armed anti-c-Met antibody derived from the full-length bivalent anti-c-Met antibody might serve as a potential antitumor agent against HCC.Keywords: antitumor, c-Met, hepatocellular carcinoma, knobs into holes, monovalent antibody, targeted therapy
