4. Experimental study on the effects of complex discrete joints on the mechanical behavior of rock‐like material.

Abstract

The strength and failure of rock masses are ambiguous due to their complex structure. Investigating the strength and failure of jointed rock mass remains a persistent concern in mining engineering. This study aims to investigate the effects of joint dip angles of complex discrete joints on the mechanical properties and fracture evolution of rock‐like material. Rock‐like specimens with complex joints were prepared using 3D printing technology and then tested under uniaxial compression loading. The experimental results reveal the following findings: (1) The anisotropy of rock‐like material with complex joints is lower compared to the rock‐like material with simple joints. (2) The ratio of long‐term strength to uniaxial compressive strength of rock‐like material remains consistent despite changes in the dip angle of the joints. (3) Differing from intact rocks, AE events of the rock‐like material with complex joints are obvious in the initial loading stage and elastic deformation stage. (4) When the dip angle of the joint sets is 0 and 90°, fractures progressively propagate, and the failure mode of the rock‐like material demonstrates tensile failure along the pre‐existing joints. Conversely, when the dip angle of the joint sets is 45° and 135°, fractures are simultaneously initiated at various locations within the rock‐like specimen, resulting in a failure mode of rotational failure by the newly generated block. Abstract

The acoustic emission, energy, and damage evolution of coal samples for three kinds of uniaxial cyclic loading and unloading are deeply analyzed in this study. The evolution of total absorption energy, elastic strain energy, and dissipated energy of coal samples is related to the stress path, and the increasing amplitudes cycle loading has an obvious damage effect on coal samples. During the loading stage, the acoustic emission phenomenon is most active when loading is increasing and the Felicity and post-Kaiser phenomena appear. The acoustic emission phenomenon during constant loading does not obviously change, but rather becomes active with the increase of the equivalent load. The damage to the coal sample shows nonlinear change increasing loading and unloading and shows linear change for other stress paths. Compared to waveforms with stepwise increasing amplitudes cyclic loading, the failure process of the coal sample is more closely related to the size of the external load, which indicates that reasonable hydraulic design is beneficial to the stability of the confining pressure in the chamber of an underground pumped storage hydropower station.

Abstract

Dynamic binary translation (DBT) is a core technology that enables the migration of legacy software to different instruction set architectures while maintaining the original semantics. However, the development and maintenance of an efficient cross-DBT system are challenging. Key challenges include memory access overhead, inefficient instruction simulation, and frequent context switches. In this paper, we propose three novel optimization techniques. First, we formalize a register mapping cost model and investigate a hierarchical register mapping approach to bridge the memory access overhead. Second, we accelerate floating point (FP) emulation by surrounding the use of hardware FP unit with high-efficiency non-FP code. Third, we present a function inlining approach to alleviating the overhead associated with indirect control lookup. On the system side, we implement our approach on ARM64 and SW64 architectures based on QEMU and extensively evaluate the effectiveness with the SPEC2006 benchmark suite. The experimental results show that an average of 1.28× performance speedup and 13.41% code size reduction can be achieved on SW64. Similarly, on ARM64, we achieve an average of 1.15× performance speedup and 11.48% code size reduction. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

This paper presents a comprehensive study of the support effect and characteristics of a collaborative reinforce system of U-steel support and anchored cable (USS-AC) for roadway under high dynamic stress in a coal mine in China. The deformational behavior of the roadway and the load characteristics of reinforcing elements were measured in real time and analyzed. A numerical simulation study has also been conducted to identify the interaction of the reinforcing elements to the surrounding rock under dynamic load. The research results suggest that the stress distribution of roadway surrounding rock could be changed and that residual strength of the surrounding rock near opening could be increased by using USS-AC. Based on the action of anchored cable, the moment distribution of U-steel support is optimized. The load capacity and nondeformability of the U-steel support are promoted. And the global stability of U-steel support is enhanced so as to achieve the goal of high supporting resistance. When the deformation stress of the surrounding rock is higher, the U-steel support deforms as the surrounding rock. The two side beams and the overlapping parts of U-steel support suffer the highest deformation stress. As a result, the anchored cable provides higher reaction force for the previous locations of the U-steel support in order to prevent deformation of support towards to excavation. As an integral structure, the U-steel support is confined to a limited deformation space under the action of anchored cable. The larger deformation is released through sliding motion of the overlapping parts so as to reach the ultimate of high supporting resistance of USS-AC.

Abstract

Since the tower surge impedance model plays a very important role in the lightning protection calculation of transmission lines, scholars at home and abroad have given a large number of tower surge impedance models, but the differences are very large. In this paper, the electromagnetic field model of a typical tower is established. Through electromagnetic field calculation, the tower surge impedance is obtained and compared with the calculation results of the existing formula. The calculation result shows that when the rise time of the injected current becomes shorter, the refraction and reflection signal are easier to distinguish. Therefore, the impulse impedance of the tower calculated by the electromagnetic field method will tend to the actual surge impedance. The surge impedance calculation result obtained by the formula proposed by Visacro is the closest to the electromagnetic field simulation result, which can truly show the true transient characteristics of the tower.
