25. Modeling the time-periodicity of in-degree distributions in scientific citation networks

Abstract

In a range of citation networks, the in-degree distributions boast time-periodicity---the distributions of citations per article published each year present similar scale-free tails. This phenomenon can be regarded as a consequence of the emergence of hot topics and the existence of the "burst" phenomenon. With this inference considered, a geometric model based on our previous study is established, in which the sizes of the influence zones of nodes follow the same power-law distribution and decrease with their ages. The model successfully reproduces the time-periodicity of the in-degree distributions of the empirical data, and accounts for the presence of citation burst as well. Moreover, a reasonable explanation for the emergence of the scale-free tails by regarding the citation behavior between articles as a "yes/no" experiment is presented. The model can also predict the time-periodicity of the local clustering coefficients, which indicates that the model is a good tool in researches on the evolutionary mechanism of citation networks.

29. Modeling the coevolution between citations and coauthorships in scientific papers

Abstract

Collaborations and citations within scientific research grow simultaneously and interact dynamically. Modelling the coevolution between them helps to study many phenomena that can be approached only through combining citation and coauthorship data. A geometric graph for the coevolution is proposed, the mechanism of which synthetically expresses the interactive impacts of authors and papers in a geometrical way. The model is validated against a data set of papers published on PNAS during 2007-2015. The validation shows the ability to reproduce a range of features observed with citation and coauthorship data combined and separately. Particularly, in the empirical distribution of citations per author there exist two limits, in which the distribution appears as a generalized Poisson and a power-law respectively. Our model successfully reproduces the shape of the distribution, and provides an explanation for how the shape emerges via the decisions of authors. The model also captures the empirically positive correlations between the numbers of authors' papers, citations and collaborators.

36. Study on waterproofing performance of concrete with N-CCCW coating.

Abstract

Cementitious capillary crystalline waterproofing (CCCW) materials have been widely applied to enhance the waterproofing performance of concrete. The workability of nano-modified CCCW (N-CCCW)and the improvement of the waterproofing performance of modified concrete were studied, as well as the underlying mechanism was discussed. The results show that N-CCCW has good workability, with a fluidity of 140-220mm at the W/C ratio of 0.40-0.50. N-CCCW can reduce the capillary water absorption height of cement mortar by 22.3%, attributing to the pore size refinement of cement mortar and porosity decrease. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Xushen gas field not only exploits volcanic gas reservoir, but also develops glutenite reservoir. By establishing the fine management mode of four types of wells, the “one type, one method, one well, one policy” has been realized. Abstract

Liver metastasis is the leading cause of mortality in patients with colorectal cancer. Given the significance of both epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) of tumor cells and the immune microenvironment in colorectal cancer liver metastasis (CRLM), the interplay between them could hold the key for developing improved treatment options. We employed multiomics analysis of 130 samples from 18 patients with synchronous CRLM integrated with external datasets to comprehensively evaluate the interaction between immune cells and EMT of tumor cells in liver metastasis. Single-cell RNA sequencing analysis revealed distinct distributions of nonmalignant cells between primary tumors from patients with metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) and non-metastatic colorectal cancer, showing that Th17 cells were predominantly enriched in the primary lesion of mCRC. TWEAK, a cytokine secreted by Th17 cells, promoted EMT by binding to receptor Fn14 on tumor cells, and the TWEAK-Fn14 interaction enhanced tumor migration and invasion. In mouse models, targeting Fn14 using CRISPR-induced knockout or lipid nanoparticle-encapsulated siRNA alleviated metastasis and prolonged survival. Mice lacking Il17a or Tnfsf12 (encoding TWEAK) exhibited fewer metastases compared with wild-type mice, while cotransfer of Th17 with tumor cells promoted liver metastasis. Higher TWEAK expression was associated with a worse prognosis in patients with colorectal cancer. In addition, CD163L1+ macrophages interacted with Th17 cells, recruiting Th17 via the CCL4-CCR5 axis. Collectively, this study unveils the role of immune cells in the EMT process and identifies TWEAK secreted by Th17 as a driver of CRLM., Significance: TWEAK secreted by Th17 cells promotes EMT by binding to Fn14 on colorectal cancer cells, suggesting that blocking the TWEAK-Fn14 interaction may be a promising therapeutic approach to inhibit liver metastasis., (©2024 American Association for Cancer Research.)
