The Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) imaging of the supermassive black holes at the centers of Messier 87 galaxy and the Milky Way galaxy marks a significant step in observing the photon rings and central brightness depression that define the optical appearance of black holes with an accretion disk scenario. Inspired by this, we take into account a static and spherically symmetric magnetically charged regular black hole (MCRBH) metric characterized by its mass and an additional parameter q, which arises from the coupling of Einstein gravity and nonlinear electrodynamics (NLED) in the weak field approximation. This parameterized model offers a robust foundation for testing the coupling of Einstein gravity and NLED in the weak-field approximation, using the EHT observational results. In this study, we investigate the geodesic motion of particles around the solution, followed by a discussion of its fundamental geometrical characteristics such as scalar invariants. Using null geodesics, we examine how the model parameter influences the behavior of the photon sphere radius and the associated shadow silhouette. We seek constraints on q by applying the EHT results for supermassive black holes M87* and Sgr A*. Furthermore, it is observed that the geodesics of time-like particles are susceptible to variations in q, which can have an impact on the traits of the innermost stable circular orbit and the marginally bounded orbit. Our primary objective is to probe how the free parameter q affects various aspects of the accretion disk surrounding the MCRBH using the thin-disk approximation. Next, we discuss the physical characteristics of the thin accretion disk as well as the observed shadows and rings of the MCRBH, along with its luminosity, across various accretion models. We study the axial gravitational perturbations of slowly-rotating compact objects which are assumed to be supported by anisotropic fluids. We find that the gravitational perturbations decouple from the matter perturbations for axial sectors. We obtain a master wave equation whose potential is fully determined by the metric functions. Using a symmetry-preserving formulation of a vector$\,\times\,$vector contact interaction (SCI) and treating the proton as a quark + interacting-diquark bound state, whose structure is obtained by solving a Poincar\'e-covariant Faddeev equation, we provide a comprehensive, coherent set of predictions for unpolarised and polarised proton parton distribution functions (DFs): valence, glue, and four-flavour separated sea. The results enable many themes to be addressed, including: the asymmetry of antimatter in the proton; the neutron:proton structure function ratio; helicity retention in hard scattering processes; the charm quark momentum fraction; the sign and size of the polarised gluon DF; and the origin of the proton spin. In all cases where sound analyses of data are available, SCI predictions are semiquantitatively in agreement with the results. Those mismatches which exist are typically attributable to the momentum-independence of the underlying interaction. In this paper, we investigate the Blandford-Znajek (BZ) process within the framework of Einsteinian cubic gravity (ECG). To analytically study the BZ process using the split monopole configuration, we construct a slowly rotating black hole in ECG up to cubic order in small spin, considering the leading order in small coupling constant of higher curvature terms. By deriving the magnetosphere solution around the black hole, we determine the BZ power up to the second relative order in spin. The BZ power is modified by the coupling constant compared to Kerr black hole. Although the general nature of the BZ process in ECG remains unchanged at the leading order in spin, the coupling constant introduces modification at the second relative order in spin. Therefore, we anticipate that it is feasible to discern general relativity from higher derivative gravities by examining the BZ power in rapidly rotating black holes., Comment: v2: 13 pages, references added

Photo-Thermoelectric (PTE) response is usually one of the main working mechanisms for photodetectors. However, as another fast and easier way to measure thermoelectric characteristics of materials, it can also reveal important physics such as electric-phonon coupling, electron-electron correlation, etc. Recently, the spin entropy related to magnetic order transition which contributes to thermoelectric power is attracting more and more attention. Here, we demonstrate the PTE response can be reshaped when Ca3Ru2O7 undergoes meta-magnetic phase (MMP) transition driven by both temperature and magnetic field. Firstly, a sign change is observed crossing TS = 48 K and the linear polarization angle dependent PTE current maximizes along a-axis above TS while maximizes along b-axis below TS, which indicates that the antiferromagnetic spin order contributes to such spatial anisotropy. Secondly, in the temperature range of around 40 ~ 50 K, the PTE current is found to be sharply suppressed when external magnetic field is applied in plane along a-axis but is only gradually suppressed when applied field is along b-axis which gives out two critical fields. We attribute such suppression of PTE current under magnetic field to the suppression of the spin entropy in the phase transition between the antiferromagnetic state and the MMP state and the H-T phase diagrams of Ca3Ru2O7 is redrawn accordingly. Compared to previously work which trying to understand the magnetic phase transition in Ca3Ru2O7, such as neutron scattering, specific heat, and other advanced transport measurements, our work provides a more convenient yet efficient method, which may also find applications in other correlated spin materials in general.

Supposing there exists an effective charge which defines an evolution scheme for both unpolarised and polarised parton distribution functions (DFs) that is all-orders exact and using Ans\"atze for hadron-scale proton polarised valence quark DFs, constrained by flavour-separated axial charges and insights from perturbative quantum chromodynamics, predictions are delivered for all proton polarised DFs at the scale $\zeta_{\rm C}^2 = 3\,$GeV$^2$. The pointwise behaviour of the predicted DFs and, consequently, their moments, compare favourably with results inferred from data. Notably, flavour-separated singlet polarised DFs are small. On the other hand, the polarised gluon DF, $\Delta G(x;\zeta_{\rm C})$, is large and positive. Using our result, we predict $\int_{0.05}^1\,dx\,\Delta G(x;\zeta_{\rm C}) = 0.214(4)$ and that experimental measurements of the proton flavour-singlet axial charge should return $a_0^{\rm E}(\zeta_{\rm C}) = 0.35(2)$., Comment: 8 pages, 6 figures, 3 tables

The strange-metal state is a crucial problem in condensed matter physics highlighted by its ubiquity in almost all major correlated systems[1-7]. Its understanding could provide important insight into high-Tc superconductivity[2] and quantum criticality[8]. However, with the Fermi liquid theory failing in strange metals, understanding the highly unconventional behaviors has been a long-standing challenge. Fundamental aspects of strange metals remain elusive, including the nature of their charge carriers[1]. Here, we report the observation of a giant Nernst response in the strange-metal state in a two-dimensional superconductor 2M-WS2. A giant Nernst coefficient comparable to the vortex Nernst signal in superconducting cuprates, and its high sensitivity to carrier mobility, are found when the system enters the strange-metal state from the Fermi liquid state. The temperature and magnetic field dependence of the giant Nernst peak rule out the relevance of both Landau quasiparticles and superconductivity. Instead, the giant Nernst peak at the crossover indicates a dramatic change in carrier entropy when entering the strange-metal state. The presence of such an anomalous Nernst response is further confirmed in other iconic strange metals, suggesting its universality and places stringent experimental constraints on the mechanism of strange metals.

Using a symmetry-preserving regularisation of a vector$\times$vector contact interaction (SCI), we complete a systematic treatment of twelve semileptonic transitions with vector meson final states: $D\to \rho$, $D_{(s)}\to K^\ast$, $D_s\to \phi$, $B\to \rho$, $B_s\to K^\ast$, $B_{(s)}\to D_{(s)}^\ast$, $B_c \to B_{(s)}^\ast, J/\psi, D^\ast$; and thereby finalise a unified analysis of semileptonic decays of heavy+heavy and heavy+light pseudoscalar mesons to both pseudoscalar and vector meson final states. The analysis is marked by algebraic simplicity, few parameters, and the ability to consistently describe systems from Nambu-Goldstone modes to heavy+heavy mesons. Regarding the behaviour of the transition form factors, the SCI results compare well wherever sound experimental or independent theory analyses are available; hence, the SCI branching fraction predictions should be a reasonable guide. Considering the ratios $R(D_{(s)}^{(\ast)})$, $R(J/\psi)$, $R(\eta_c)$, whose values are key tests of lepton universality in weak interactions, the SCI values agree with Standard Model predictions. The $B_{(s)}\to D_{(s)}^\ast$ transitions are used to predict the precursor functions that evolve into the universal Isgur-Wise function in the heavy-quark limit, with results that conform with those from other sources where such are available. The study also exposes effects on the transition form factors that flow from interference between emergent hadron mass from the strong interaction and Higgs boson couplings via current-quark masses, including flavour symmetry violation., Comment: 18 pages, 9 figures, 3 tables
