Learning analytics dashboards have been developed to facilitate teacher guidance in computer-supported collaborative learning (CSCL). As yet, little is known about how teachers interpret dashboard information to facilitate guidance in their teaching practice. This study examined teachers' behavior patterns in interpreting information from dashboards, and obtained their views about the potential barriers in interpreting dashboard information. Fourteen pre-service teachers participated in the study and data were collected from multiple sources. In total, 1,346 min of video data on teachers' guiding behavior and approximately 27,000 words from a cued retrospective report and interview data were generated. A two-stage approach was adopted to process the data. Based on the video analysis in the first stage, we extracted teachers' four typical behavior patterns in finding and reading dashboard information and two behavior patterns when explaining information from dashboards. Thematic analysis at the second stage identified useful indicators for teacher guidance in CSCL and some major barriers teachers encountered in interpreting information. These findings may help improve the design of dashboards and show how teachers integrate dashboards into their daily teaching practice, thereby enhancing students' collaboration and learning.

The learning analytics dashboard (LAD) has been recognised as a useful tool to facilitate teachers' diagnosis and intervention in collaborative learning. However, little empirical evidence has been reported concerning the effects of LAD on teachers in computer-supported collaborative learning (CSCL). The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of a LAD system called the Knowledge-Behavior-Social Dashboard (KBSD) for supporting teachers' diagnosis and intervention of CSCL activities. Thirty-five pre-service teachers participated in the experiment. The results indicated that teachers using KBSD used more 'cross-group' strategies to diagnose students' learning problems. Teachers in the experimental group also performed more interventions involving 'cognitive guidance', 'scaffold instructing', 'positive evaluation' and 'individual facilitating'. Moreover, the analysis of the interview revealed that the KBSD tool has the potential to assist teachers in detecting learning problems in a group in an easy and convenient manner. Pedagogical implications and future research are also addressed.

Predicting performance responses of insects to climate change is crucial for biodiversity conservation and pest management. While most projections on insects' performance under climate change have used macro-scale weather station data, few incorporated the microclimates within vegetation that insects inhabit and their feeding behaviors (e.g. leaf-nesting: building leaf nests or feeding inside). Here, taking advantage of relatively homogenous vegetation structures in agricultural fields, we built microclimate models to examine fine-scale air temperatures within two important crop systems (maize and rice) and compared microclimate air temperatures to temperatures from weather stations. We deployed physical models of caterpillars and quantified effects of leaf-nesting behavior on operative temperatures of two Lepidoptera pests: Ostrinia furnacalis (Pyralidae) and Cnaphalocrocis medinalis (Crambidae). We built temperature-growth rate curves and predicted the growth rate of caterpillars with and without leaf-nesting behavior based on downscaled microclimate changes under different climate change scenarios. We identified widespread differences between microclimates in our crop systems and air temperatures reported by local weather stations. Leaf-nesting individuals in general had much lower body temperatures compared to non-leaf-nesting individuals. When considering microclimates, we predicted leaf-nesting individuals grow slower compared to non-leaf-nesting individuals with rising temperature. Our findings highlight the importance of considering microclimate and habitat-modifying behavior in predicting performance responses to climate change. Understanding the thermal biology of pests and other insects would allow us to make more accurate projections on crop yields and biodiversity responses to environmental changes. We conducted this study to investigate the radioprotective effects of recombinant human thrombopoietin (rhTPO) on beagle dogs irradiated with 3.0 Gy 60Co gamma rays. Fifteen healthy adult beagles were randomly assigned to a control group with alleviating care, and 5 and 10 µg/kg rhTPO treatment group. All animals received total-body irradiation using 60Co c-ray source at a dose of 3.0 Gy (dose rate was 69.1 cGy/min). The treatment group received intramuscular injection of rhTPO 5 and 10 µg/kg at 2 h postirradiation, and the control group was administrated the same volume of normal saline. The survival rate, clinical signs, peripheral hemogram, serum biochemistry, and histopathological examination of animals in each group were assessed. Single administration of 10 µg/kg rhTPO at 2 h postirradiation promoted the recovery of multilineage hematopoiesis and improved the survival rate of beagles irradiated with 3 Gy 60Co c rays. The administration of 10 µg/kg rhTPO alleviated fever and bleeding, reduced the requirement for supportive care, and may have mitigated multiple organ damage. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A 500-kV power transformer substation was focused on for seismic performance examination. Finite element models of the power transformer, isolation layers, site soil, bus bars and support structure were established under various analysis conditions. By inputting typical ground motions into the models, seismic time history responses were obtained. First, the seismic performance, critical position and failure modes of a single power transformer without isolation were examined. Then, the effect on the power transformer by arranging isolation bearings was confirmed. Moreover, the influence of site soil dynamic characteristics on the isolating performance of the power transformer was examined. Finally, the influence of the length margin of the bus bars on the seismic response of the isolated power transformer was analyzed. It was revealed that the bottom of the transformer bushings which were made of porcelain was a weak part. Installing isolation bearings effectively reduced the maximum stress response of the bushing for most ground motions. The dynamic characteristics of the site soil significantly affected the isolation efficiency of the power transformer, and the expected isolation effect was achieved when the soil was soft. The displacement response of the transformer was largely increased by isolation, the pulling effect of the bus bars on the porcelain bushing was significant. When the length margin of the bus bars was enlarged to 1.0 m, the influence on the bushing decreased to a low level that could be ignored. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Venous leg ulceration (VLU) is one of the complications of lower extremity venous reflux and reflux disorder of severe diseases, with many adverse effects on patient’s work and life. Nowadays, more and more patients with VLU accept wound care in community setting. Clinical nurses generally take care of the patients based on their own experiences. Healing in VLU is an incredibly complex process, which puzzles even experts. The majority of general nurses do not have this level of expertise, especially those nurses serving in community. Function is the basis of nursing activities. Patients always show different clinical manifestations and self-care abilities due to various function states, which cannot be reflected completely by the existing nursing practice. How to describe nursing practice standardized in order to demonstrate the effectiveness of interventions and facilitate interdisciplinary communication is another urgent problem. Therefore, the aim of this project is to develop an accurate nursing program based on function in chronic venous leg ulcers, which can both satisfy the needs of patients and promote nursing revolution.

Background: The prognostic factors for efficacy of poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) inhibitors in ovarian cancer remain unknown. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of PARP inhibitors and to explore their prognostic factors in ovarian cancer.Methods: PubMed, Embase, and conference databases were searched for relevant prospective clinical trials. The primary outcomes included overall survival (OS), progression-free survival (PFS), and their prognostic factors. Secondary outcomes included PFS2, time to first subsequent therapy (TFST), time to second subsequent therapy (TSST), chemotherapy-free interval (CFI), and their prognostic factors. Hazard ratio (HR) with a 95% confidence interval (CI) was used as an effect measure.Results: PARP inhibitors significantly prolonged PFS in patients with ovarian cancer regardless of their BRCA and HRD status (HR = 0.44, 95% CI = 0.36–0.55). BRCA mutation, HRD-positive status, and sensitivity to platinum represented effective prognostic factors for PFS (Pinteraction < 0.01 and within-trial interaction HR < 1). Other clinicopathological factors did not predict the benefit of PFS (Pinteraction > 0.10). Moreover, PARP inhibitors significantly increased PFS2, TFST, TSST, and CFI, with significant BRCA-related differences. However, HRD-related differences could not be evaluated due to the lack of eligible studies. Furthermore, PARP inhibitors did not translate into prolonged OS, although there was a benefit associated with OS (HR = 0.84, 95% CI = 0.70–1.02). PARP inhibitors used as maintenance therapy after first or subsequent line therapy improved OS (HR = 0.77, 95% CI = 0.63–0.93).Conclusions: PARP inhibitors can significantly prolong PFS, PFS2, TFST, TSST, and CFI in ovarian cancer patients. BRCA mutation, HRD-positive status, and sensitivity to platinum are effective prognostic factors for the efficacy of PARP inhibitors. However, despite the PFS improvement, this does not translate into prolonged OS for patients.

The thermal insulating properties of polymer greatly restrict the application of polymer as the thermal conductivity materials in industry. Multilayer graphene was chosen as a filler due to its unique thermal transfer property. The effect of alumina oxide (Al2O3) and silicon carbide (SiC) with graphene as hybrid fillers on thermal conductivity of polymers was also explored. The thermal conductivity of the composites enhances 161% with 3%(mass fraction) graphene content compared to pure nylon-6(PA6). The thermal conductivity of PA6 composites is within 0.653-4.307W·m-1·K-1 by adjusting hybrid fillers content and the ratio of graphene with Al2O3 and SiC. The best thermal conductivity is 20 times higher than the pure PA6. It is no doubt that the exploration can provide valuable experimental basis for extending the utilization of graphene as thermal conductivity filler and the application of PA6 thermal conductivity materials in industry.
