Abstract Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium (S. Typhimurium) is a major cause of salmonellosis, and the emergence of multidrug-resistant pathovariants has become a growing concern. Here, we investigate a distinct rough colony variant exhibiting a strong biofilm-forming ability isolated in China. Whole-genome sequencing on 2,212 Chinese isolates and 1,739 publicly available genomes reveals the population structure and evolutionary history of the rough colony variants. Characterized by macro, red, dry, and rough (mrdar) colonies, these variants demonstrate enhanced biofilm formation at 28 °C and 37 °C compared to typical rdar colonies. The mrdar variants exhibit extensive multidrug resistance, with significantly higher resistance to at least five classes of antimicrobial agents compared to non-mrdar variants. This resistance is primarily conferred by an IncHI2 plasmid harboring 19 antimicrobial resistance genes. Phylogenomic analysis divides the global collections into six lineages. The majority of mrdar variants belong to sublineage L6.5, which originated from Chinese smooth colony strains and possibly emerged circa 1977. Among the mrdar variants, upregulation of the csgDEFG operons is observed, probably due to a distinct point mutation (−44G > T) in the csgD gene promoter. Pangenome and genome-wide association analyses identify 87 specific accessory genes and 72 distinct single nucleotide polymorphisms associated with the mrdar morphotype.

Abstract Mitochondrial gene expression relies on mitoribosomes to translate mitochondrial mRNAs. The biogenesis of mitoribosomes is an intricate process involving multiple assembly factors. Among these factors, GTP-binding proteins (GTPBPs) play important roles. In bacterial systems, numerous GTPBPs are required for ribosome subunit maturation, with EngB being a GTPBP involved in the ribosomal large subunit assembly. In this study, we focus on exploring the function of GTPBP8, the human homolog of EngB. We find that ablation of GTPBP8 leads to the inhibition of mitochondrial translation, resulting in significant impairment of oxidative phosphorylation. Structural analysis of mitoribosomes from GTPBP8 knock-out cells shows the accumulation of mitoribosomal large subunit assembly intermediates that are incapable of forming functional monosomes. Furthermore, fPAR-CLIP analysis reveals that GTPBP8 is an RNA-binding protein that interacts specifically with the mitochondrial ribosome large subunit 16 S rRNA. Our study highlights the role of GTPBP8 as a component of the mitochondrial gene expression machinery involved in mitochondrial large subunit maturation.

Objective To explore the relationship between pulmonary function, physical activity, and health-related quality of life (QoL) in resected lung cancer patients based on the International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health (ICF) framework developed by the World Health Organization to describe health and health-related states. Methods A quantitative study was designed with postoperative lung cancer survivors to assess personal characteristics. We also assessed functional impairment related to the lung using forced vital capacity (FVC) and forced expiratory volume at 1 second (FEV1), activity limitations using maximal oxygen consumption (VO2max), anaerobic threshold (AT) and 6-minute walking distance (6MWD), and participation restriction using the 36-item Short Form Health Survey V1 (SF-36). Data analyses were conducted using the multivariate method and SmartPLS to examine path coefficient among the measures. Results Forty-one patients were enrolled in this study. Weizmannia coagulans has attracted attention due to its remarkable health benefits for human, but the dynamic changes of its viable bacteria during thermal processing have been less reported. In this study, a predictive model for the survival of Weissmanella coagulans during thermal processing of food was developed and validated during the processing of coffee, tea, instant noodles, calcium milk biscuits, muffin cake and steamed buns. The kinetics of heat inactivation activities of Weizmannia coagulans VHProbi C08 and Weizmannia coagulans GBI-30, 6086 at 85, 95, 105, 110 and 115 °C were investigated, and their coefficients of determination were greater than 0.91 and 0.87, and the root-mean-square errors were less than 0.64 and 0.43, respectively. The z-values of VHProbi C08 and GBI-30, 6086 were obtained by Bigelow model fitting as 36.1 °C and 36.9 °C, respectively. The developed prediction model was applied to the thermal processing of six food products and the measured values were all within ±0.5 Log10 (CFU/mL) of the predicted values, indicating high prediction accuracy. The model predicts the survival of Weissmanella coagulans simply by obtaining the initial number of viable bacteria and the change in temperature. These suggested that the model can be used as an effective tool to evaluate the stability of Weizmannia coagulans in food thermal processing.

Abstract To study the dynamic mechanical properties and failure characteristics of intersecting jointed rock masses with different joint distributions under confining pressure, considering the cross angle α and joint persistence ratio η, a numerical model of the biaxial Hopkinson bar test system was established using the finite element method–discrete-element model coupling method. The validity of the model was verified by comparing and analyzing it in conjunction with laboratory test results. Dynamics-static combined impact tests were conducted on specimens under various conditions to investigate the strength characteristics and patterns of crack initiation and expansion. The study revealed the predominant factors influencing intersecting joints with different angles and penetrations under impact loading. Excessive local movement and inflammation are common problems in the process of wound repair, which lead to failure of later repair. In order to solve this problem, inspired by the octopus sucker structure, we successfully developed a photocrosslinked hydrogel that can adsorb skin surface fascia. In addition, extracellular vesicles from human bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells are encapsulated in the octopus like sucker structure. The morphology and structure of extracellular vesicles in bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells were detected by scanning electron microscopy and particle size analysis. Through iTRAQ, we tested the expression of angiogenesis related proteins contained in extracellular vesicles. Design small interfering RNA to verify its impact on angiogenic related genes and proteins. Macrophage polarization was detected by immunofluorescence. The expression of new blood vessels was detected by constructing a skin defect model and injecting microfil contrast agent into the heart. When the sucker is firmly adsorbed on the damaged wound, the sucker will slowly degrade. Using its delivery system, it is observed that the extracellular vesicles are released in the wound. Through iTRAQ, it was found that the angiogenesis regulator (angiopoietin-like 4, angiopoietin-like 3 and aminopeptidase N) released in the extracellular vesicles regulates collagen deposition, angiogenesis, and inhibits macrophage aggregation. In addition, the slowly released extracellular vesicles will further inhibit the polarization of proinflammatory macrophages. This biological behavior can provide an adaptive microenvironment for skin regeneration at an early stage. This new bionic octopus sucker structure gel creates a good microenvironment for wound repair and shortens the wound healing time. Therefore, this hydrogel inspired by the octopus sucker structure may provide a good strategy and commercial value for promoting wound repair treatment in clinical practice.

Abstract To study the mechanical properties of different types of rocks under impact loading, static mechanical parameter tests and split-Hopkinson pressure bar (SHPB) dynamic impact experiments were conducted on five typical rock specimens. The mechanical properties and failure modes of different rock specimens under the same static and dynamic loading were investigated. The differences between numerical simulation results and laboratory test results under different constitutive models in LS-DYNA were also compared and analyzed. The results show that with the increase of SHPB impact pressure (0.5–0.8 MPa), the stress peak values of granite, marble, and limestone also increase, while gypsum and reef limestone follow no particular trend. At the same time, both HJC and RHT constitutive models can simulate the laboratory impact test results of granite, marble, and limestone, however, the gypsum and reef limestone are not modelled by the HJC constitutive model, while the RHT constitutive model can describe the deformation-damage-failure process of rock specimens with different strengths. Therefore, the RHT model can better reflect the real deformation and failure of rocks.

This paper focuses on the analysis of the stress state of a large-span frame pier-continuous box girder bridge with pier crossbeams anchored by pier crossbeams on the main pier of the Guangfo-Zhao Expressway. The bridge is constructed by the cantilever method, and a refined finite element model of the entire bridge is established using the finite element software Midas/FEA to analyze the stress state of the frame pier during the cantilever construction process. It is found that under the possible combined action of an unbalanced load during construction, the torsional resistance of the frame pier crossbeam does not meet the requirements of the design code. In order to eliminate the torsion of the frame piers, counterweights were used to monitor the frame piers during the construction of the box girders. In this paper, the theoretical calculation formula of the inclination angle of the end section of the frame pier crossbeam with the change of unbalanced bending moment, the calculation formula of the relationship between the horizontal displacement of the frame pier and the unbalanced bending moment, and the calculation formula corresponding to the relationship with the water tank counterweight are derived using the structural mechanics method. Two monitoring methods for the frame pier are proposed. In the construction monitoring of the bridge, the numerical fitting formula obtained by finite element numerical analysis calculation is compared with the calculated formula obtained by substituting the design parameters of the frame pier into the theoretical formula. The basic constants in both formulas are basically equal, verifying the correctness of the monitoring calculation formula proposed in this paper for the torsional resistance of the frame pier crossbeam. The applicability of the two monitoring methods is also compared and analyzed. This paper takes the main pier of Chaoyang overpass’s mainline bridge as the engineering background, which adopts the framework pier with a large-span prestressed concrete continuous box girder bridge. It analyzes the torsional state of the beam of the framework pier during the bridge construction process and conducts research on the construction monitoring of the framework pier crossbeam, providing valuable references for the construction monitoring of framework pier crossbeams in the construction of large-span framework pier continuous bridges in the future. The research results of this paper can provide assistance for the construction monitoring of similar projects. This paper’s innovation primarily resides in employing structural mechanics methods to compute the torsion of frame piers. On this basis, a simplified beam torsion calculation formula is proposed to strengthen its practical application in construction monitoring. The findings of this paper can help in the construction monitoring of similar projects.

Abstract Influences of high in-situ stress generally need to be considered when excavating deep underground caverns. The dynamic fracture behaviors of rocks under blast loads were investigated by using the rock-anchored beam excavation in underground powerhouses of Shuangjiangkou Hydropower Station in Sichuan Province, China as the engineering background. To solve the problems of the poor blasting breakage effect of rocks and the difficulty in protecting surrounding rocks during excavation, mechanical properties of granite under static and dynamic loads were investigated and the sequential controlled fracture blasting (SCFB) method was adopted during in-situ tests. Based on the Riedel-Hiermaier-Thoma constitutive model and the strength criterion, software LS-DYNA was employed to simulate the dynamic propagation of blasting-induced cracks. The contour shaping effect obtained via numerical simulation is generally consistent with the test results. The results show that SCFB can to some extent control the direction of crack initiation and rock fracture behavior of the blasthole wall cracks and the spacing of successive bursting holes is about 10 times the diameter of the blastholes when the cracks between the blastholes are shaped the best effect. Moreover, the magnitude and direction of principal in-situ stress can both affect the propagation path and length of blasting-induced cracks. The results of the research on the excavation and construction of deeply buried underground caverns have a certain reference value.

The threshing rate is one of the important indexes to evaluate the effect of corn threshing. The weighing method is often used to calculate the depuration rate of maize at present. This method is time-consuming and laborious and can only calculate the overall threshing rate but does not give the threshing rate of individual corn ears. Different parameters of corn ears have complex effects on the threshing rate. By analyzing the threshing rate of each corn ear, we can choose the appropriate ear treatment method, optimize the processing equipment and process flow, and improve the threshing performance. This paper presents a method based on machine vision to detect the threshing rate of corn ears. In this method, machine vision was used to measure the parameters of the corncob and the area of the top of residual kernels. The area of the top of all kernels was restored based on the parameters of the corncob. The threshing rate of corn ears was calculated by the ratio of the area of the top of the missing kernel to the area of the top of all kernels after threshing. A bivariate linear regression area model was established to restore the area of the top of all corn kernels based on corncob parameters. The R2 was more significant than 0.98, and the goodness of fit was good. The machine vision inspection results showed that the maximum relative error of length and midsection radius was 7.46% and 5.55%, and the mean relative error was 2.58% and 2.23%. The maximum relative error of the corn ear threshing rate was 7.08%, and the mean relative error was 2.04%. When the residual kernels were concentrated in the midsection, the inspection result of the corn ear threshing rate was better. The maximum relative error was 3.98%, and the mean relative error was 1.07%. This paper provides a new idea and reference for measuring the threshing rate of corn ears.

Based on the theory of zero bending moment under constant load, various optimization methods exist for the top beam of large-span continuous rigid frame bridges. These include achieving zero bending moment at the root of the cantilever beam, at the control stage section, and through the zero deflection method. This study aims to explore the methods and effects of optimizing roof beam design using the constant load zero bending moment method and the “three group bundle method”. Using finite element modeling, the total number and eccentricity of prestressed tendons required for each suspended pouring block are determined. Additionally, the “three group beam matching method” is employed to adjust the steel beam, adhering to the design concept of “large cantilever beam matching and small cantilever beam matching”, to achieve a reasonable configuration of the top plate beam. Through specific engineering examples, the results demonstrate that utilizing the constant load zero moment method and the “three group bundle method” can significantly enhance the structural performance and economy of large-span continuous rigid frame bridges. Moreover, it offers practical operability, providing an important reference basis for similar project designs.

To address the challenges of missed and disorderly picking in tea harvesters, this study focused on the leaf-collection pipeline and utilized Fluent simulation 19.0 software. A single-factor test identified key parameters affecting airflow velocity. An orthogonal test evaluated the main pipe taper, number of branch pipes, and branch pipe outlet diameter, with average outlet wind speed and wind speed non-uniformity as indicators. The optimal parameters were a main pipe taper of 25.5 mm, 10 branch pipes, and an inner diameter of 17.10 mm for the outlet, resulting in 10.73 m/s average wind speed and 8.24% non-uniformity. Validation tests showed errors under 1%. Further optimization on the internal structure’s extension length led to 11.02 m/s average wind speed and 8.04% non-uniformity. Field experiments demonstrated a 3.40% stalk leakage rate and 90.36% bud leaf integrity rate; the optimized structure of the leaf-collecting pipeline significantly improved the uniformity of airflow and the picking efficiency. These findings offer valuable insights and practical benefits for enhancing the efficiency of tea harvesters.

The spatial distribution of underground tunnels is significant to the stress redistribution in the surrounding rock masses and blast wave propagation. The field blasting tests were first carried out to study the propagation of blast-induced seismic waves through underground tunnels of the Xiluodu Hydropower Station in China. The results show that the peak horizontal particle vibration velocity can be used as a safety criterion for underground tunnels. The effects of in situ stresses and spatial distributions of the tunnel group on the vibration velocities distribution is afterward investigated by numerical simulation. The results show that there is a significant amplification of the blasting vibrations in the adjacent tunnels, which depends on their vertical positions during the excavation of a tunnel. The peak vibration velocity decreases as the lateral separation between tunnels increases. When the separation between the tunnels exceeds the width of three tunnels, the impact of the blast waves on each part of the adjacent tunnel tends to be stable on the whole. In terms of the size of the tunnel, the blasting vibration velocity in the upper part of the straight wall on the front-blast side increases as the width increases (and then levels off), while the blasting vibration velocity in the lower part decreases as the width increases (and then levels off). Finally, a generalized formula of blasting vibration velocity considering the spatial distribution is established, which can well predict the vibration velocity of particles in underground tunnels.

Force-electric of structural materials made early warning viable before structural failure, e.g., by monitoring resistivity of cement-based materials, which could predict main crack about 10 s ahead. Length of this time window might be elongated or shortened by modifying the cement-based materials with different additives. This paper investigated the effect of fly ash and silica fume on force-electric characteristics of cement-based materials. A real-time monitoring system was constructed by digital scatter diffraction (DIC) and multi-functional resistivity measurement instrument to explore and analysis of force-electric response, resistivity development, and surface crack width of cement-based materials under uniaxial compression. Mechanical and electrical response of prisms subjected to uniaxial compression were found highly correlated. We showed that properly defined indicators derived from the high-frequency resistivity measurement were useful for predicting fracture. Addition of silica fume tended to insulate the mortar and delay the electrical response, whereas addition of fly ash was conducive to reduce resistivity and activate the force-electric response of the cement-based materials, the resistivity fluctuation noise was relatively small and the resistivity fluctuation wass the most stable, with the lowest RSDmax and RSDave values of 4502 and 0.086, respectively.

The current study aims to investigate the value of strain rate ratio (SR) of elastography for benign and malignant breast masses categorized by Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System for Ultrasonography (BI-RADS-US) category 3-4. Ultrasonographic data of 1099 breast masses that underwent both elastography and pathological examination were retrospectively analyzed by non-parametric test, consistency analysis and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve sequentially. ROC curve was used to evaluate the diagnostic effect of SR method in different BI-RADS categories of breast lesions. The maximum Youden index obtained from the ROC curve was 0.845. At a cut-off value of 3.57, the SR values’ diagnostic sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, positive predictive value and negative predictive value for distinguishing benign and malignant breast lesions were 85.7 %, 98.8 %, 93.6 %, 97.9 % and 91.45 %, respectively. Consistency analysis showed that the consistency between SR value and pathological diagnosis was 93.6 % (κ = 0.864). In addition, the SR values between benign and malignant lesions of BI-RADS 3 and 4 were statistically different (P < 0.001). ROC analysis indicated that the diagnostic area under curve (AUC) for SR value in BI-RADS 3, 4a, 4b and 4c lesions were 0.985, 0.866, 0.793 and 0.916, respectively. In addition, the study observed 58 cases of missed diagnosis and 20 cases of misdiagnosis in evaluating benign and malignant breast lesions. The elastic SR ratio method has a good diagnostic value for the evaluation of breast masses, particularly for lesions with a score of 3-4. The elastic SR ratio method is instrumental in enhancing the accuracy of diagnosis.

Milk, enriched with high-quality protein, is a healthy and nutritious food that meets people's needs. However, consumers are turning their attention to plant-based milk due to several concerns, such as lactose intolerance, allergies and some diseases caused by milk; carbon emission from cattle farming; economical aspects; and low access to vitamins and minerals. Oat milk, which is produced from whole grain oats, is lactose free and rich in a variety of nutrients and phytochemicals. With the significant development of food processing methods and advancement in milk simulation products, the production of plant-based milk, such as cereal milk, has greatly progressed. This review described some features of oat milk analogue versus traditional milk and compared the properties, processing technologies, health effects, environmental friendliness, and consumer acceptance of these products. It is expected to provide a reference for evaluating development trends and helping consumers choose between oat milk and traditional milk.

Abstract The responsive control of energy transfer (ET) plays a key role in the broad applications of lanthanide‐doped nanomaterials. Photonic crystals (PCs) are excellent materials for ET regulation. Among the numerous materials that can be used to fabricate PCs, chiral nematic liquid crystals are highly attractive due to their good photoelectric responsiveness and biocompatibility. Here, the mechanisms of ET and the photonic effect of chiral nematic structures on ET are introduced; the regulation methods of chiral nematic structures and the resulting changes in ET of lanthanide‐doped nanomaterials are highlighted; and the challenges and promising opportunities for ET in chiral nematic structures are discussed.

The dynamic mechanical properties and dynamic energy absorption capacity of marine sandy clay, which was stabilized by cement with partial substitution of alkali-activated metakaolin (AAMK) and discrete polypropylene fibers, were experimentally investigated at strain rates of 80–280 s−1. The AAMK, as partial replacement of cement, is eco-friendly and economical, and polypropylene fibers with corrosion resistance can withstand severe environmental conditions. Dynamic mechanical properties of 16 different mix ratios were experimentally examined via split Hopkinson compression pressure bar (SHPB) tests. Typical macroscopic post-impact fragment patterns I and II were observed in dynamic stress–strain curves and macroscopic fragmentations. The results confirmed an obvious enhancement in the dynamic compressive strength and energy absorption density due to the use of cement with partial substitution of AAMK and the addition of polypropylene fibers and sand. Based on scanning electron microscopy (SEM) tests and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) tests, cemented sandy clay specimens treated with 0.2% fiber contents or higher exhibited a denser network of soil particles with hydration products. The connection mechanism and typical interface between fiber-sand-hydrate-sandy clay particles were observed via SEM tests. Furthermore, an optimal mix ratio was proposed to satisfy the demands of high dynamic mechanical properties, energy absorption capacity, and economic and environmental constraints. The optimal mix ratio corresponded to 0.2% fiber content or higher and sand content of up to 16%. Additionally, it was observed that the dynamic compressive strength of samples with 0.1% fibers or less deteriorated. Based on absorption energy density and failure modes analysis, the fiber content should be higher than or equal to 0.2% to effectively reduce the degree of fragmentation and increase the size of fragments.

The transformation and upgrading of traditional agriculture are required to address its shortcomings and deficiencies, which have resulted in environmental pollution or water problems. Precision agriculture emerged at the historic moment to solve the current problems. Field information collection, information management and decision-making, and execution systems are the three key links of precision fertilization and irrigation. The technical principle and application of field information acquisition systems are analyzed. The information management and decision-making system describes the management and summary of information in crop growth. The execution system combines the knowledge of various disciplines and experts for targeted applications to specific crops. It further focuses on the core implementation system, that is, variable fertilization technology and variable spraying technology that can realize variable operations. Major contributions from different countries, institutions, corresponding authors, and journals are presented in detail. This study proposes several suggestions and ideas based on the research status and progress of the three key systems to provide a theoretical basis and technical support for the research and development of key technologies and innovative devices of precision agricultural fertilization and irrigation.

Acute lung injury (ALI) is an inflammatory condition and there are no effective treatments. A novel new compound----colchicine-myricetin hybrid (CMyrH) was herein designed and synthesized. To evaluate the activity of CMyrH in ALI, we used a bleomycin (BLM) induced BEAS-2B injury model in vitro and established a well-recognized rat model of BLM-induced lung injury in vivo. The results demonstrated that colchicine-myricetin hybrid protected BEAS-2B cells against BLM-induced cell injury in an increased dose manner, and reduced wet/dry weight ratio, histological scoring, and inflammation cytokines IL-1β, IL-6, IL-18, and TNF-α levels of lung tissue of the rats. Furthermore, we found colchicine-myricetin hybrid inhibited caspase-1, ASC, GSDMD, and NLRP-3 expression in vivo. Meanwhile, we used molecular docking to analyze the binding mode of colchicine-myricetin hybrid and human neutrophil elastase (HNE), it revealed that colchicine-myricetin hybrid showed strong binding affinity toward human neutrophil elastase when compared to its parent molecules. In conclusion, It is suggested that colchicine-myricetin hybrid antagonized acute lung injury by focusing on multi-targets via multi-mechanisms, and might be served as a potential therapeutic agent for acute lung injury.

Deep-learning methods have made significant progress for salient object detection in optical remote sensing images (ORSI-SOD). However, it is difficult for existing methods to effectively exploit both the multi-scale global context and local detail features due to the cluttered background and different scales that characterize ORSIs. To solve the problem, we propose a transformer and convolution mixed network (TCM-Net), with a U-shaped codec architecture for ORSI-SOD. By using a dual-path complementary network, we obtain both the global context and local detail information from the ORSIs of different resolution. A local and global features fusion module was developed to integrate the information at corresponding decoder layers. Furthermore, an attention gate module was designed to refine features while suppressing noise at each decoder layer. Finally, we tailored a hybrid loss function to our network structure, which incorporates three supervision strategies: global, local and output. Extensive experiments were conducted on three common datasets, and TCM-Net outperforms 17 state-of-the-art methods.

Abstract The aim of this study is to improve the accuracy of response prediction and safety evaluation of blasting vibration of a deeply-buried tunnel group. For this purpose, the expression of frequency-domain and blasting vibration velocity spectra for the equivalent blasting load in multiple holes was derived through theoretical analysis, and propagation and attenuation of the primary frequency of blasting vibration of multiple cutting holes and caving holes in the infinite rock mass were explored. Response characteristics of vibration frequency spectra in rock surrounding of the adjacent tunnel induced by full-section blasting excavation of the tunnel under the high in situ stress were studied using the dynamic finite element method. The research indicates that blasting vibration waves have the greatest influences on the adjacent tunnel at the haunch in the side facing the blasting, where the vibration velocity is inversely proportional to the spacing between tunnels and directly proportional to the tunnel diameter. The centroid frequency increases with the increase of the spacing between tunnels and tunnel diameter. Furthermore, vibration velocity spectra at the most affected location (namely the haunch) in the side facing blasting of the adjacent tunnel under different conditions were derived. The coincidence of the theoretical formula was verified by comparing measured data of blasting of diversion tunnels in Pubugou Hydropower Station (Sichuan Province, China). The research results can provide theoretical guidance and reference for the prediction of blasting vibration response of similar projects in the future.

Neurons in oscillatory networks often exhibit membrane potential resonance, a peak impedance at a non-zero input frequency. In electrically coupled oscillatory networks, the coupling coefficient (the ratio of post- and prejunctional voltage responses) could also show resonance. Such coupling resonance may emerge from the interaction between the coupling current and resonance properties of the coupled neurons, but this relationship has not been clearly described. Additionally, it is unknown if the gap-junction mediated electrical coupling conductance may have frequency dependence. We examined these questions by recording a pair of electrically coupled neurons in the oscillatory pyloric network of the crab Cancer borealis. We performed dual current- and voltage-clamp recordings and quantified the frequency preference of the coupled neurons, the coupling coefficient, the electrical conductance, and the postjunctional neuronal response. We found that all components exhibit frequency selectivity, but with distinct preferred frequencies. Mathematical and computational analysis showed that membrane potential resonance of the postjunctional neuron was sufficient to give rise to resonance properties of the coupling coefficient, but not the coupling conductance. A distinct coupling conductance resonance frequency therefore emerges either from other circuit components or from the gating properties of the gap junctions. Finally, to explore the functional effect of the resonance of the coupling conductance, we examined its role in synchronizing neuronal the activities of electrically coupled bursting model neurons. Together, our findings elucidate factors that produce electrical coupling resonance and the function of this resonance in oscillatory networks.

By taking the blasting excavation of a deeply buried karst tunnel in the North Tianshan Mountains in China as research objects, the damage induced by blasting excavation and seepage characteristics of deep rock under high seepage pressure was investigated. The COMSOL Multiphysics® software was adopted to establish a simulation model for the blasting excavation of a deeply buried tunnel. By embedding the stress-damage-seepage multifield coupled constitutive relationship, the mechanism of the influences of factors including blasting load, geostress, and hydraulic pressure of karst caves on the blasting excavation-induced damage to, and seepage characteristic of, the surrounding rocks of the tunnel. The results indicate that blasting excavation in the karst tunnel triggers the damage of surrounding rocks, which consists of blasting-induced damage and unloading damage. The time-history curve of the variable for surrounding rock damage rises and consequently tends to a constant value. With the increases in blasting load, geostress, and hydraulic pressure of karst caves, the degree of damage to surrounding rocks is intensified; an increase in geostress will weaken the effect of blasting-induced damage to rock while increasing rock damage arising from unloading. Meanwhile, the degree of damage to the surrounding rock can affect the seepage velocity of water in the surrounding rock to a certain extent. A strong damage and seepage coupled effect occur in the blasting excavation process of the karst tunnel. The such coupled effect is strengthened little by little with the increases in the degree of surrounding rock damage and hydraulic pressures. The results are expected to provide theoretical guidance for hazard prevention and control of blasting excavation in karst tunnels under high geostress conditions.

Abstract To explore the distribution of cracks in anchored caverns under the blast load, cohesive elements with zero thickness were employed to simulate crack propagation through numerical analysis based on a similar model test. Furthermore, the crack propagation process in anchored caverns under top explosion was analyzed. The crack propagation modes and distributions in anchored caverns with different dip angles fractures in the vault were thoroughly discussed. With the propagation of the explosive stress waves, cracks successively occur at the arch foot, the floor of the anchored caverns, and the boundary of the anchored zone of the vault. Tensile cracks are preliminarily found in rocks that surround the caverns. In the scenario of a pre-fabricated fracture in the upper part of the vault, the number of cracks at the boundary of the anchored zone of the vault first decreases then increases with the increasing dip angle of the pre-fabricated fracture. When the dip angle of the pre-fabricated fracture is 45°, the fewest cracks occur at the boundary of the anchored zone. The wing cracks deflected to the vault are formed at the tip of the pre-fabricated fracture, around which are synchronous formed tensile and shear cracks. Under top explosion, the peak displacement and the peak particle velocity in surrounding rocks of anchored caverns both reach their maximum values at the vault, successively followed by the sidewall and the floor. In addition, with the different dip angles of the pre-fabricated fracture, asymmetry could be found between the peak displacement and the peak particle velocity. The vault displacement of anchored caverns is mainly attributed to tensile cracks at the boundary of the anchored zone, which are generated due to the tensile waves reflected from the free face of the vault. When a fracture occurs in the vault, the peak displacement of the vault gradually decreases while the residual displacement increases.

Abstract Breast cancer is the most common malignancy among women across the globe. Recent studies have revealed that many long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) regulate the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway in several types of cancer. Hyperactivation of the Wnt/β-catenin pathway has been extensively presented in breast cancer and is involved in breast cancer progression. However, the underlying molecular mechanism remains elusive. In the current study, we found lncRNA RBM5-AS1 was remarkably upregulated in breast cancer cells and tissues. Overexpression of RBM5-AS1 facilitated proliferation, migration, invasion, EMT, and stemness maintenance of breast cancer cells in vitro and in vivo. Mechanism studies suggested that RBM5-AS1 could be transcriptionally activated by hypoxia-induced RUNX2. Upregulated RBM5-AS1 further activated the Wnt/β-catenin signaling by preventing β-catenin degradation and by helping organize β-catenin-TCF4 transcriptional complex. These findings suggested that RBM5-AS1, a regulator of Wnt/β-catenin signaling, plays a vital role in breast cancer initiation and progression, implicating its potential as a new target for breast cancer treatment.

In the construction process of road engineering, risks are everywhere. To do a good job in the risk management of road engineering projects, finding the risk factors of road engineering projects is an important part of it. This article introduces the characteristics of project risks and the process of risk management. The AHP method is applied to the risk analysis of road engineering projects to realize the ranking of risk factors, the evaluation of the total risk system, and the selection of risk response measures. This article conducts risk evaluation on the project, finds out important risk factors, and effectively controls them. This paper adopts the analytic hierarchy process on the overall risk management of road engineering projects. Finally, it comprehensively considers the systemic and non-systematic risks faced by road engineering, and specifically involves macro policy and economic risks, as well as project initiation and project construction. The risks and capital risks, and other links considered the internal and external factors of the road-engineering project. In this way, the project risk has been comprehensively measured by a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods, and the effective management of the project has been finally realized.

Compared with the movement of corn seeds in the sowing machine, the movement in the threshing machine is more intense. The collision between corn seeds and threshing parts and other corn seeds will not only change the movement path of corn seeds in the threshing clearance but also cause damage to corn seeds. Therefore, when using discrete element simulation technology to optimize the critical components of corn threshing machinery, it is necessary to measure corn seeds’ accurate collision recovery coefficient. However, when measuring the collision recovery coefficient between corn seeds, there will be multi-point collisions between corn seeds, affecting the measurement results’ accuracy. In order to solve this problem, this study combined high-speed photography and the sound waveform of corn seed collision to eliminate the interference of the multi-point collision phenomenon and improve the accuracy of measurement results. According to the above test method, the contact parameters of corn seeds were measured. Finally, the corn–corn rolling friction coefficient and corn–PMMA rolling friction coefficient were 0.0784 and 0.0934, respectively. The corn–corn static friction coefficient was 0.32, and the corn–PMMA static friction coefficient was 0.445. The corn–corn collision recovery and corn–PMMA collision recovery coefficients were 0.28 and 0.62, respectively. After that, the method’s reliability and the measurement results’ accuracy were verified by the plane collision test and repose angle test.

Low-density reef limestone is widely distributed in tropical oceans; exploring its mechanical properties is of significance to practices in marine foundation engineering. In this research, laboratory experiments on low-density reef limestones with two different types of porous structures were conducted using image recognition methods to study the special mechanical properties of low-reef limestone. S¯ was defined as the parameter quantifying the pore geometry, and the calculation method of S¯ was optimized based on image recognition data. Finally, the influencing factors of uniaxial compressive strength (UCS) of low-density reef limestone were analyzed, and a modified formula considering pore structure was proposed. The results indicate the following: Image recognition methods were used to determine feasibility and convenience of capturing 2D pore geometric information of specimens. The optimization method of S¯ is conducive to improving automatic image recognition accuracy. Low-density reef limestones with different porous structures show small difference in porosity and density, while they exhibit large differences in pore sizes and UCS. The UCS of low-density reef limestone is found to be jointly influenced by pore structure and density (it increases with the decrease in parameter S¯ and increase in density). The results may provide help for those investigating the mechanical properties of reef limestone and practices in marine foundation engineering.

Harvesting is an important procedure for hydroponic lettuces in plant factories. At present, hydroponic lettuces are mainly harvested manually, and the key difficulty in mechanical harvesting is reducing the occurrence of leaf injury. Measuring the size of hydroponic lettuces using the image processing method and intelligently adjusting the operating parameters of the harvesting device are the foundation of high-quality harvesting for lettuces. The overlapped leaves of adjacent hydroponic lettuces cause difficulties in measuring lettuce size, especially the leaves expansion size. Therefore, we proposed an image processing method for measuring lettuce height and leaves expansion size according to the upper contour feature of lettuces and an image included three lettuces. Firstly, the upper contours of the lettuces were extracted and segmented via image preprocessing. Secondly, lettuce height was measured according to the maximum ordinate of the contour. Lastly, the lettuce’s upper contour was fitted to a function to measure the leaves expansion size. The measurement results showed that the maximal relative error of the lettuce height measurements was 5.58%, and the average was 2.14%. The effect of the quadratic function in fitting the upper contour was the best compared with the cubic function and sine function. The maximal relative error of the leaves expansion size measurements was 8.59%, and the average was 4.03%. According to the results of the lettuce height and leaves expansion size measurements, the grabbing parameters of each lettuce were intelligently adjusted to verify the harvesting effect. The harvesting success rates of lettuces was above 90%, and the injured leaves areas of the left, middle, and right lettuces in each image were 192.6 mm2, 228.1 mm2, and 205.6 mm2, respectively. This paper provides a reference for the design and improvement of intelligent harvesters for hydroponic lettuces.

Immune checkpoints are the crucial regulators of immune system and play essential roles in maintaining self-tolerance, preventing autoimmune responses, and minimizing tissue damage by regulating the duration and intensity of the immune response. Furthermore, immune checkpoints are usually overexpressed in cancer cells or noninvasive cells in tumor tissues and are capable of suppressing the antitumor response. Based on substantial physiological analyses as well as preclinical and clinical studies, checkpoint molecules have been evaluated as potential therapeutic targets for the treatment of multiple types of cancers. In the last few years, extensive evidence has supported the immunoregulatory effects of traditional Chinese medicines (TCMs). The main advantage of TCMs and natural medicine is that they usually contain multiple active components, which can act on multiple targets at the same time, resulting in additive or synergistic effects. The strong immune regulation function of traditional Chinese medicine on immune checkpoints has also been of great interest. For example, Astragalus membranaceus polysaccharides can induce anti-PD-1 antibody responses in animals, and these antibodies can overcome the exhaustion of immune cells under tumor immune evasion. Furthermore, many other TCM molecules could also be novel and effective drug candidates for the treatment of cancers. Therefore, it is essential to assess the application of immune checkpoints in the development of new drugs and TCMs. In this review, we focus on research progress in the field of immune checkpoints based on three topics: (1) immune checkpoint targets and pathways, (2) development of novel immune checkpoint-based drugs, and (3) application of immune checkpoints in the development of TCMs.

Abstract During the blasting excavation of deep underground caverns, the effects of the structural surface on crack propagation are usually considered in addition to the clamping effects of high in situ stress. Based on the notched borehole and timing sequence control (TSC) fracture blasting method, this paper studies the effects of different borehole shapes on the degree of damage of the surrounding rock and profile flatness of the rock anchor beams and the effects of different filled joint characteristics on the blasting crack propagation rules. The results show that the damage depth of the surrounding rocks by round hole smooth blasting is approximately twice that by notched hole smooth blasting, by which the profile formed is flatter. The notched primary borehole (PBH) remains a strong guidance for crack propagation in a rock mass with filled joints, while the stress concentration effects of the round target borehole (TBH) cannot fully guide the cracks until they fall within a certain distance between the PBH and TBH. It is favourable for cracks to propagate along the lines between boreholes with larger filled joint strengths and larger angles between boreholes.

Colchicine is a bioactive alkaloid originally from Colchicum autumnale and possesses excellent antiproliferative activity. However, colchicine-associated severe toxicity, gastrointestinal side effects in particular, limits its further therapeutic use. In the current study, we thus designed and synthesized a novel hybrid (CMH) by splicing colchicine and magnolol, a multifunctional polyphenol showing favorable gastrointestinal protection. The antitumor activity of CMH in Lewis lung carcinoma (LLC) was then evaluated in vitro and in vivo. Biologically, CMH inhibited the growth of LLC cells with an IC50 of 0.26 μM, 100 times more potently than cisplatin (26.05 μM) did. Meanwhile, the cytotoxicity of CMH was 10-fold lower than that of colchicine in normal human lung cells (BEAS-2B). In C57BL/6 mice xenograft model, CMH (0.5 mg/kg) worked as efficacious as colchicine (0.5 mg/kg) to inhibit tumor growth and 2 times more potently than cisplatin (1 mg/kg). In terms of mortality, 7 out of 10 mice died in colchicine group (0.75 mg/kg), while no death was observed in groups receiving CMH or cisplatin at 0.75 mg/kg. Mechanistic studies using Western blot revealed that CMH dose-dependently suppressed the protein expression of phosphorylated ERK. Molecular docking analysis further indicated that CMH was well fitted in the colchicine binding site of tubulin and formed several hydrogen bonds with tubulin protein. These results enable our novel hybrid CMH as a potential antineoplastic agent with lower toxicity, and provide perquisites for further investigation to confirm the therapeutic potentiality of this novel hybrid.

Adipose derived stem cell (ASC) spheroids show enhanced cellular viability and paracrine function to promote tissue regeneration and cell therapy effect. However, efficient preparation of numerous ASC spheroids, as well as convenient application on skin wound remains a challenge. The present study explored a new function of frequently-used polymer, Poly (N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM), developing a simple but efficient method based on PNIPAM to produce numerous ASC spheroids and apply them towards wound healing. PNIPAM-based porous hydrogel that crosslinked with disulfide bonds was fabricated, showing pore size of 300 μm at 37 °C. ASCs seeded into porous hydrogel spontaneously aggregated inside the inner pores to form a large number of spheroids. Higher cell seeding density could produce larger size of spheroids, which showed up-regulated paracrine secretion. After spheroids production, the porous hydrogel became a solution within 25 min after the addition of glutathione at 15 °C. The PNIPAM-based polymer solution carrying the produced ASC spheroids gelled again within 80 s at 33 °C and could tightly attach on skin. The in vivo wound healing evaluation illustrated that ASC spheroids promoted M2 polarization of macrophages, and effectively inhibited the local inflammatory response of wounds, thus accelerating wound healing. Thus, for one thing, this method was expected to realize the industrialized manufacturing of a large number of stem cell spheroids. For another, the spheroids produced by the present method could be easily collected and applied for biomedical engineering.

Abstract Using 3D sonic crystals as acoustic higher‐order topological insulators (HOTIs), 2D surface states described by spin‐1 Dirac equations at the interfaces between the two sonic crystals with distinct topology but the same crystalline symmetry are discovered. It is found that the Dirac mass can be tuned by the geometry of the two sonic crystals. The sign reversal of the Dirac mass reveals a surface topological transition where the surface states exhibit zero refractive index behavior. When the surface states are gapped, 1D hinge states emerge due to the topology of the gapped surface states. The zero refractive index behavior and the emergent topological hinge states are confirmed experimentally. This study reveals a multidimensional Wannier orbital control that leads to extraordinary properties of surface states and unveils an interesting topological mechanism for the control of surface waves.

Hydroponic lettuce is the main cultivated leafy vegetable in plant factories, and its scattered leaves are delicate and easily injured. Harvesting is an important process in the production of hydroponic lettuce. To reduce the injury level of hydroponic lettuce during harvesting, the impacts of the flexible finger-grabbing position applied on the grabbing force and the area of the injured leaves were investigated in this study by utilizing thin-film sensors and a high-speed video camera. According to the overlapping structural characteristics of adjacent leaves on lettuce, flexible finger-grabbing positions were divided into areas of the surface of the leaves and the intersections of the leaves. Three grabbing types—which are referred to in this paper as Grabbing Types A, B, and C—were identified according to the number of flexible fingers grabbing the leaf surface and the intersection area of the leaves. The force curves of all the flexible fingers were measured by thin film sensors, and the injury area of the leaves was detected using an image processing method. The results showed the consistency of the grabbing force curves and the motion characteristic parameters of the four flexible fingers. The maximum grabbing force of each flexible finger appeared at the stage of pulling the lettuce. The grabbing force of the flexible fingers acting on the intersection areas of the leaves was less than that acting on the leaf surface. As the number of flexible fingers acting on the intersection areas of the leaves increased, both the injury area of the leaves and the grabbing force decreased gradually. Grabbing Type C had the smallest injury area of the leaves: 120.3 ± 13.6 mm2 with an 11.4% coefficient of variation.

Green innovation has been identified as a viable strategy to mitigate the tension between industrial change and pollutant emissions. Relevant research should focus more on the impact of eco-friendly innovations on carbon emissions. Consequently, using a panel data set that covers 30 Chinese provinces from 2005 to 2020, we examine whether there is a carbon-abatement effect of green innovation in the construction sector. According to the findings of a two-way fixed-effects model, green innovation substantially positively influences reduction in dioxide emissions in the Chinese construction industry. The results of a panel threshold model show a significant non-linear relationship between green innovation and carbon emissions when the environmental regulation intensity is used as the threshold variable. Furthermore, we discovered that green innovation cuts carbon emissions considerably through environmental regulation. Finally, the impact of abatement varies significantly between regions, innovation elements, and types of development.

Corn is a crucial crop and has a vital application value in many aspects of our lives. Mechanical grain harvesting is the developing direction of corn harvesting technology, with corn threshing as its most imperative procedure. The quality of the threshing device of the corn harvester has a major influence on its damage rate, loss rate, and other parameters. Therefore, it is of great significance to effectively lower the damage rate in the process of corn threshing. This review presents the research progress and the application status of corn threshing technology and corn threshing machinery. The conclusions and suggestions on low-damage corn threshing technology and corn threshing machinery are summarized to provide a reference for the reduction in the damage rate of mechanical grain harvesting and promote the development of mechanical grain harvesting technology.

Abstract The peak particle velocity (PPV) is an important indicator for predicting blasting excavation disturbances. However, the PPV distribution in the deep underground space is significantly different from that on the outdoor ground. Therefore, it is difficult to predict the underground PPV by Sadovsky’s vibration formula. The PPV sidewall distribution characteristics were studied during site blasting in an underground cavern in the Taohuazui mine in China, and a similar numerical model was used to verify the site test data. We derived a PPV prediction formula for the underground cavern sidewall surrounding rock using a mechanical analysis model of a simply supported plate and beam in combination with dimensional analysis. The model considered derived boundary constraints, comparison with site measured data, the value predicted by Sadovsky’s vibration formula, and numerical simulation results. The results showed that the PPV distribution on the middle 1/3 section of the underground cavern sidewall showed a “platform” or “bulge” different from the curve from Sadovsky’s vibration formula. The PPV amplification coefficient in this section was distributed in a drum shape. The PPV prediction formula for the middle section of the sidewall derived in this paper was highly consistent with the data measured on-site and the numerical simulation results. The mechanical analysis model with a simply supported plate and beam included an underground cavern sidewall length–height ratio of 5 and effectively supplemented the PPV prediction formula for the middle section of the traditional underground cavern sidewall.

With the rapid growth of traffic, the loads' design of many existing bridges can no longer meet the current vehicle load requirements, and the structural safety is seriously threatened. To ensure the structural safety of the bridge, it is necessary to monitor the bridge health and establish an early warning mechanism to prevent major accidents. The modern concrete bridge structure health monitoring based on damage identification proposed in this paper carried out principal component analysis of modern concrete bridges, and then this paper used principal component analysis (PCA) to locate the nonlinear damage source of the experimental model, which obtained the following conclusions. The maximum shear stress of the steel beam web is about 80 MPa，and the bulk stress of steel is reached at 7.5 MPa. Furthermore, to reduce the original data's dimensionality, PCA effectively retains the characteristic information of the original data; empirical examples from external factor are presented. The major advantage of applying this framework is that the structural damage identification is simple and reliable with its advantages of dimensionality reduction, noise reduction, and exclusion of out-of-bounds interference factors.

Due to the high cost of the bridge health monitoring system, only some large bridges are running the health monitoring system. This paper proposes methods for bridge structure damage and health diagnosis based on health monitoring. The establishment of various environmental load models, computer technology, and stochastic process analysis technology are equivalent to a large and complex system. The maximum longitudinal damage at the end fulcrum is about 24 mm, and the longitudinal damage does not exceed 6 kN. Moreover, the damage of the welding nail is caused by the temperature rise of 15 °C. The health monitoring of the bridge structure is ultimately to evaluate the health of the bridge structure. This paper analyses and evaluates the level of the cumulative damage of the bridge structure, which predicts the development trend of the damage, provides the bridge management department with timely status information, and provides bridge structure maintenance and management.

Lignin is a natural biopolymer with a complex three-dimensional network and it is rich in phenol, making it a good candidate for the production of bio-based polyphenol material. This study attempts to characterize the properties of green phenol-formaldehyde (PF) resins produced through phenol substitution by the phenolated lignin (PL) and bio-oil (BO), extracted from oil palm empty fruit bunch black liquor. Mixtures of PF with varied substitution rates of PL and BO were prepared by heating a mixture of phenol–phenol substitute with 30 wt.% NaOH and 80% formaldehyde solution at 94 °C for 15 min. After that, the temperature was reduced to 80 °C before the remaining 20% formaldehyde solution was added. The reaction was carried out by heating the mixture to 94 °C once more, holding it for 25 min, and then rapidly lowering the temperature to 60 °C, to produce the PL−PF or BO−PF resins. The modified resins were then tested for pH, viscosity, solid content, FTIR, and TGA. Results revealed that the substitution of 5% PL into PF resins is enough to improve its physical properties. The PL−PF resin production process was also deemed environmentally beneficial, as it met 7 of the 8 Green Chemistry Principle evaluation criteria.

The pressure drop for air-water two-phase flow in pipeline systems with S-shaped and vertical risers at various inclinations (−1°, −2°, −4°, −5° and −7° from horizontal) was predicted using an artificial neural network (ANN). In the designing of the ANN model, the superficial velocity of gas and liquid as well as the inclination of the downcomer were used as input variables, while pressure drop values of two-phase flows were determined as the output. An ANN network with a hidden layer containing 14 neurons was developed based on a trial-and-error method. A sigmoid function was chosen as the transfer function for the hidden layer, while a linear function was used in the output layer. The Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm was used for the training of the model. A total of 415 experimental data points reported in the literature were collected and used for the creation of the networks. The statistical results showed that the proposed network is capable of calculating the experimental pressure drop dataset with low average absolute percent error (AAPE) of 3.35% and high determination coefficient (R2) of 0.995.

The degradation of seismic performance for RC bridge piers induced by chloride corrosion has previously been studied by treating the earthquake as a unilateral cyclic loading. Such studies do not consider the true response of the pier under the joint effect of corrosion damage and real multi-dimensional earthquake action. Thus, in the present study, the cyclic behavior of rectangular bridge piers subjected to the coupling effects of chloride corrosion and bidirectional loading was numerically investigated. First, the corrosion-induced deterioration of material mechanical properties is introduced. Second, the numerical model of two corroded piers is built and validated with the test results in the literature. Then, the time-dependent biaxial seismic performance of a rectangular bridge pier under the circular-shaped (CS) biaxial displacement pattern, square-shaped (SS) biaxial displacement pattern, uniaxial displacement in the X-direction (UX) pattern, and uniaxial displacement in the Y-direction (UY) pattern is analyzed using the validated model. The simulation results conclude that the trajectory of biaxial loading paths and corrosion levels significantly influence the peak force, deformation capacity, and dissipated energy of the piers. The biaxial loading path effect for the corrosive pier includes two stages with different biaxial force trajectory characteristics. Compared with the uncorroded pier, the corrosion level of 13.7% and biaxial loading induces up to a 40% reduction in strength and a 54% decrease in the residual ultimate displacement of the corroded pier. For the same corrosion degree, the dissipated energy under the SS biaxial displacement path is the largest among the four loading paths.

Magnesium (Mg) is an essential macronutrient for plant growth and development. Physiological and transcriptome analyses were conducted to elucidate the adaptive mechanisms to long-term Mg deficiency (MD) in banana seedlings at the 6-leaf stage. Banana seedlings were irrigated with a Mg-free nutrient solution for 42 days, and a mock control was treated with an optimum Mg supply. Leaf edge chlorosis was observed on the 9th leaf, which gradually turned yellow from the edge to the interior region. Accordingly, the total chlorophyll content was reduced by 47.1%, 47.4%, and 53.8% in the interior, center and edge regions, respectively, and the net photosynthetic rate was significantly decreased in the 9th leaf. Transcriptome analysis revealed that MD induced 9,314, 7,425 and 5,716 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in the interior, center and edge regions, respectively. Of these, the chlorophyll metabolism pathway was preferentially enriched according to Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) analysis. The expression levels of the five candidate genes in leaves were consistent with what is expected during chlorophyll metabolism. Our results suggest that changes in the expression of genes related to chlorophyll synthesis and decomposition result in the yellowing of banana seedling leaves, and these results are helpful for understanding the banana response mechanism to long-term MD.

In view of the content of bridge condition assessment and health monitoring, this paper is based on the finite element simulation analysis. The uncertain finite element model updating method based on sequential optimization strategy is studied, and the uncertain modal parameter data obtained by health monitoring system are applied to upgrade the uncertain finite element model of cable-stayed bridges, which provides a more accurate finite element model for subsequent reliability analysis. Firstly, the finite element dynamic analysis of the main span structure of the bridge is carried out, and the natural frequencies and modes are obtained. Then the measured natural frequencies of the structure are obtained by estimating the power spectrum of the dynamic monitoring data, and the theoretical values are compared with the measured ones. The dynamic characteristics of the modified two-stayed bridge finite element model are verified by the load test results. The results show that the modified finite element model can simulate the dynamic characteristics of the actual structure well. Most of the measured and calculated displacement increments were within the margin of error. The error is within 5%, which can accurately reflect the true stress state of the structure. The uncertainty model based on the sequential optimization strategy is simple and can be applied to the uncertainty of the finite element model of the actual bridge structure.

In order to study the bond performance between desert sands engineered cementitious composites (DS-ECC) and corrosion steel bars, seven groups of specimens were designed and manufactured. Through the center pull-out test, the effects of different types of desert sands, the rate of corrosion (0, 5, 10 and 15%), and the anchorage length of steel bars (5d and 8d) on the bonding properties of DS-ECC and corrosion steel bars were studied. Moreover, a de-rusting agent was used to remove the corrosion, and three groups of specimens were pulled out from the center of the de-rusted steel bars. The results showed that both Tengger DS-ECC and Mu Us DS-ECC have good bond properties with corrosion steel bars. The bond stress slip curves between DS-ECC and corrosion steel bars can be divided into four stages: the micro-slip, slip stage, failure stage and residual stage. The bond stress slip curves between DS-ECC and de-rusted steel bars can be divided into the micro-slip stage, failure stage and residual stage, and splitting and pulling-out failure occurs in DS-ECC specimens. The ultimate bond strength is the highest when the corrosion rate is 5%. The bond toughness index is positively correlated with the anchorage length of steel bars, and negatively correlated with the corrosion rate of steel bars. According to the test results, the bond–slip mathematical relationship is established.

Background: Circadian rhythm disturbance is common postoperatively in older patients with hip fractures, which may contribute to the development of postoperative delirium (POD). As a reliable biomarker of endogenous circadian rhythms, melatonin regulates the sleep-wake cycle and environmental adaptation, and its secretory rhythm may be modified by anaesthesia and surgery. This study compared the impact of subarachnoid anaesthesia (SA) and general anaesthesia (GA), on the peak of melatonin secretion (primary outcome), the circadian rhythm of melatonin, cortisol and sleep, and the POD incidence (secondary outcome). Methods: In this prospective cohort observational study, hip fracture surgery patients were enrolled and assigned to receive either SA or GA. Postoperative plasma melatonin and cortisol levels were dynamically measured every six hours on seven time-points, and the circadian rhythm parameters including mesor, amplitude, and acrophase were calculated. Subjective and objective sleep assessments were performed by sleep diaries and sleep trackers, respectively. The Confusion Assessment Method was used twice daily by a specific geriatrician to screen for POD occurrence. Findings: In a cohort of 138 patients who underwent hip fracture surgery, the circadian rhythm disruption of the patients in the GA group (n=69) was greater than the SA group (n=69). Compared with SA, GA provided the lower peak concentration, mesor, and amplitude of melatonin secretion on postoperative day 1 (p < 0.05). Patients in the GA group experienced higher awakenings, more sleep deprivation, and poor sleep quality on surgery day (p < 0.05). A proportion of 12 patients in the SA group (17.4%) and 24 patients in the GA group (34.8%) experienced POD (p = 0.020). Interpretation: These results suggest that SA may be superior to GA in elderly patients undergoing hip fracture surgery as SA is associated with less impairment of the melatonin rhythm and sleep patterns, and fewer POD occurrences.

In order to solve the problems of high millet agglomerates rate, high damage rate, and high undelivered net loss rate in the process of mechanized harvesting of millet, a longitudinal axial flow-staggered flexible threshing device for millet was designed on the basis of the existing threshing device. The “staggered teeth” threshing drum and the micro rotating circular tube concave screen work together to realize the flexible and low damage threshing of millet. The pre experiment was carried out first, and the factors that have a great impact on the millet agglomerates rate, the undelivered net loss rate, and the damage rate were found to be the feeding amount, the rotating speed of the drum, and the threshing clearance. In order to further explore the influence of the interaction between the factors on the millet agglomerates rate, the undelivered net loss rate, and the damage rate, the regression orthogonal rotation combination test was carried out, and after the test, the optimal parameter combination of feeding amount, drum speed, and threshing clearance was determined. The results showed that when the feeding amount was 1.3 kg/s, the rotating speed of the drum was 762 r/min−1 and the concave clearance was 15 mm, the millet agglomerates rate was 2.92%, the high undelivered net loss rate was 1.58%, and the damage rate was 0.37%.
