32. Differentiating Features for Scene Segmentation Based on Dedicated Attention Mechanisms

Abstract

Semantic segmentation is a challenge in scene parsing. It requires both context information and rich spatial information. In this paper, we differentiate features for scene segmentation based on dedicated attention mechanisms (DF-DAM), and two attention modules are proposed to optimize the high-level and low-level features in the encoder, respectively. Specifically, we use the high-level and low-level features of ResNet as the source of context information and spatial information, respectively, and optimize them with attention fusion module and 2D position attention module, respectively. For attention fusion module, we adopt dual channel weight to selectively adjust the channel map for the highest two stage features of ResNet, and fuse them to get context information. For 2D position attention module, we use the context information obtained by attention fusion module to assist the selection of the lowest-stage features of ResNet as supplementary spatial information. Finally, the two sets of information obtained by the two modules are simply fused to obtain the prediction. We evaluate our approach on Cityscapes and PASCAL VOC 2012 datasets. In particular, there aren't complicated and redundant processing modules in our architecture, which greatly reduces the complexity, and we achieving 82.3% Mean IoU on PASCAL VOC 2012 test dataset without pre-training on MS-COCO dataset.

33. Lactobacillus plantarum AR495 Improves Osteoarthritis in Rats by Reducing the Level of Joint Inflammation

Abstract

Previous studies have shown that Lactobacillus plantarum AR495 has good anti-inflammatory and anti-osteoporosis effects. In order to further explore the effect and mechanism of AR495 in alleviating osteoporosis (OA), a rat model of OA was established to investigate the effects of AR495 on OA markers, inflammatory factor levels and oxidative stress injury in OA rats and to verify the recovery of cartilage matrix and bone by pathological staining of joints and microtomography (micro-CT) imaging. The results showed that AR495 could significantly alleviate excessive body mass gain caused by decreased physical activity in OA rats (P < 0.05). Pathological analysis showed that AR495 could significantly reduce the level of tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) in the joint tissue of OA rats, inhibit the production of matrix metalloproteinase-13 (MMP-13) and the production of C-telopeptide of type II collagen (CTX-II) as a degradation product of cartilage matrix, thereby alleviating the degradation of articular cartilage matrix in rats. Micro-CT imaging showed that AR495 could significantly alleviate bone loss in the joint of OA rats and effectively protect the integrity of cartilage and synovium of rats. In addition, AR495 could significantly increase the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and reduce the concentration of malondialdehyde (MDA) in peripheral blood (P < 0.05). Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) analysis showed that AR495 could stimulate the expression of the mucin-2 (MUC-2) and occludin-1 genes in intestinal goblet cells and repair the intestinal barrier function. It can be seen that AR495 can alleviate OA inflammation level and create a beneficial internal environment for chondrocytes to exert their functions and produce collagen matrix, thereby alleviating and restoring joint injury and improving OA symptoms.

Abstract

The comagnetometer has been one of the most sensitive devices with which to test new physics related to spin-dependent interactions, but the comagnetometers based on overlapping ensembles of multiple spin species usually suffer from systematic errors due to magnetic field gradients. Here, we propose a comagnetometer based on the Zeeman transitions of the dual hyperfine levels in ground-state 87Rb atoms, which shows nearly negligible sensitivity to variations of laser power and frequency, magnetic field, and magnetic field gradients. We measured the hypothetical spin-dependent gravitational energy of the proton with the comagnetometer, which is smaller than 4*10^{-18} eV, comparable to the most stringent existing constraint. Through optimization of the atomic cell, it is possible to improve the accuracy of the comagnetometer further.

Abstract

As an important type of Gram-positive bacteria, lactic acid bacteria (LAB) play a crucial role in food fermentation and human health maintenance. sRNA is a post-transcriptional regulatory factor existing in prokaryotes and eukaryotes. It regulates gene expression in cells by combining with target mRNA or protein, and its length is about 40 - 500 nucleotides. In recent years, with the continuous deepening of research on bacterial sRNA, the function and regulatory mechanism of LAB sRNAs have gradually attracted attention. This article reviews the mechanism and biological functions of bacterial sRNAs, with a focus on the latest progress of sRNAs in LAB such as Lactococcus lactis, Lactobacillus, Lacticaseibacillus casei, and Streptococcus thermophilus. It also looks forward to the development direction and challenges of sRNA research in LAB. In-depth research on sRNA facilitates a comprehensive understanding of the physiological characteristics and environmental adaptability, which paves the foundation for the development of LAB and their application fields.
