In order to rationally design Q500 low-alloy wind power steel with stable microstructure and properties within a large cooling rate range, this study proposed a design system that utilizes thermodynamic database, machine learning (ML), and the multi-objective genetic optimization algorithm (MOGA). Thermodynamic calculation has been used to obtain a large amount of data on phase fractions and mechanical properties for various chemical composition at different cooling rates. By comparing the predictive capabilities of different ML models, the deep neural network (DNN) and MOGA were combined to design Q500 wind power steel. Subsequently, three groups of designed chemical compositions were appropriately selected for verification. The results indicate that the yield strength of the experimental steel was over 500 MPa, and the maximum error in microstructure and mechanical property prediction was 5.0%. The prediction results demonstrated the rationality of the composition design framework. Meanwhile, the method of combining the material database and ML proposed in this study can also be applied to the design of other low-alloy steels.

Abstract The aim of the study was to analyze and discuss the value of preoperative systemic immune inflammation index (SII) and prognostic nutritional index (PNI) in predicting the prognosis of patients with renal cell carcinoma (RCC) after operation, and to establish a nomogram prediction model for patients with RCC after operation based on SII and PNI. From January 2014 to December 2018, 210 patients with RCC who underwent surgical treatment at the Xuzhou Central Hospital were selected as the research object. The receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) was used to determine the optimal cut-off value for preoperative SII, PNI, LMR, PLR, NLR and the patients were divided into groups according to the optimal cutoff values. The survival rate of patients was evaluated. The risk factors that affect the prognosis of patients with RCC were determined by LASSO and Cox regression analysis, and a prognostic nomogram was constructed based on this result. The bootstrap method was used for internal verification of the nomogram model. The prediction efficiency and discrimination of the nomogram model were evaluated by the calibration curve and index of concordance (C-index), respectively. The average overall survival (OS) of all patients was 75.385 months, and the 1-, 2-and 3-year survival rates were 95.5%, 86.6% and 77.2%, respectively. The evolution of tensile properties and microstructure in three 9% Cr martensitic rotor steel with varying contents of W and Mo elements is investigated after aging at 630 °C for different durations, with a primary focus on the characteristics of martensite laths and blocks, grain boundaries, dislocations, and precipitates. The results indicate that the presence of W and Mo elements not only influences the precipitation and coarsening behavior of Laves phases but also that of M23C6 carbides, which differs from conventional beliefs. The elevated content of Mo and reduced content of W in the steel leads to a reduction in the equilibrium Cr concentration, promoting enhanced precipitation of Cr atoms and increases nucleation sites of M23C6 carbides. During the aging treatment, the M23C6 carbides in the 2.0W0.5Mo steel exhibits the highest content and the lowest coarsening rate. The strength of 9% Cr martensitic rotor steel is primarily enhanced through dislocation strengthening and grain boundary strengthening. The presence of fine M23C6 carbides effectively immobilizes dislocations and interfaces, resulting in the exceptional stability of the microstructure in the 2.0W0.5Mo steel and a minimal reduction in yield strength.

The study investigated the creep-fatigue interaction behavior, fracture mechanism, and microstructure evolution of C630R ferritic/martensitic heat-resistant steel at 630 °C and 1% strain amplitude. The results indicate that C630R ferritic/martensitic heat-resistant steel exhibits noticeable cyclic softening behavior, with a decrease in the softening ratio from 0.46 to 0.40 as loading time increases. Microstructure evolution was examined using optical and scanning electron microscopes, revealing the appearance of secondary cracks on the longitudinal section of the sample. These cracks exhibited a curved expansion trend with multiple deformations and highly bifurcated micro-cracks at a low loading time of 30s. However, when the load holding time was increased to 300s, the fatigue cracks tended to expand in a straight line with fewer branches. Furthermore, the observed crack growth path under different loading times showed enrichment in Fe and Cr, with the crack tip containing Cr oxide, which helped prevent fatigue crack propagation. As the loading time increases, the rise in crack closure resulting from oxidation leads to a decrease in crack propagation. Electron backscatter diffraction observation revealed the formation of numerous substructures and recrystallized grains after varying holding times, enhancing the material's resistance to crack propagation. Moreover, the study found that with increasing load dwell time, the deformed grains decreased, and substructural grains became dominant (57.68% and 62.77% under 30s and 300s, respectively). This increased crack resistance resulted in shorter secondary cracks under prolonged load retention, with the secondary crack length decreasing from 146.36 μm at 30s loading time to 109.09 μm at 300s loading time. Additionally, the kernel misorientation angle value decreased significantly after different loading times, leading to a higher likelihood of cracks or holes forming in regions with high KAM values, where low-angle grain boundaries were formed.

BackgroundPancreatic trauma is a rare solid organ injury. Conservative treatment is often indicated in patients with no pancreatic duct injury, while patients with high-grade pancreatic damage most often require surgical intervention. Laparoscopic central pancreatectomy (LCP) is a parenchyma-sparing approach and can prevent endocrine and exocrine insufficiency after pancreatic resection. Indocyanine green (ICG) fluoroscopy can help the surgeon assess the blood supply of the target organ.Case presentationThe case we describe here is a 33-year-old male patient who was transferred to our hospital due to blunt abdominal trauma caused by a car accident. The patient was hemodynamically stable on admission and was diagnosed with isolated pancreatic trauma by a multidisciplinary team that included radiologists, emergency physicians, and pancreatic surgeons. The patient then underwent emergency laparoscopic central pancreatectomy, during which we used ICG fluoroscopy to assess the blood perfusion of the damaged pancreas to determine the extent of resection. The patient developed a biochemical fistula (grade A pancreatic fistula) after surgery, and no other intervention was performed except for continuous drainage. The patient was discharged on postoperative day 13. At the 3-month follow-up, the patient did not present any clinical manifestations of pancreatic endocrine and exocrine insufficiency.ConclusionTo the best of our knowledge, there have been no reports of ICG-guided emergency LCP for blunt abdominal trauma. In selected patients, emergency LCP is feasible and should be supported by a multidisciplinary team and performed by an experienced pancreatic surgeon with advanced laparoscopic skills.

With the rapid development of Mg alloys, deeper understanding to the thermodynamic and diffusional kinetic behavior of intermetallic compounds (IMCs) is important for studying the effect of alloying elements to the microstructure evolution. Specially, a systematic quantitative investigation on the diffusional growth of IMCs is of great necessity. However, the works studying the elemental diffusion behaviors of multiple-element IMCs are rare in magnesium alloy systems. The current work takes the ternary Mg-Al-Zn system as research target, and combines the diffusion couple technique, phase stability diagrams, in-situ observation technique and numerical inverse method to investigate the temperature-dependent kinetic coefficients. The parabolic growth constant (PGC) and interdiffusion coefficients for Mg solid-solution phase and γ-Mg17Al12, β-Mg2Al3, ε-Mg23Al30, MgZn2, Mg2Zn3, τ-Mg32(Zn, Al)49 and ϕ-Mg5Zn2Al2 IMCs in the Mg-Al-Zn alloy system are determined. By comparing the current experimental with calculation results, the rate-controlling factor of the temperature-dependent diffusion growth of ϕ, τ and ε ternary IMCs in the Mg-Al-Zn system is further discussed in detail.

Ultra-fine grained magnesium alloys are usually prepared by severe deformation and medium-low temperature deformation. In this work, it has been found that the binary Mg-1.2Ce alloy with the uniform distributed Mg12Ce precipitates smaller than 3 μm is a good candidate to obtain ultra-fine grains by conventional one-step extrusion at high temperatures. All the three Mg-1.2Ce samples extruded at 300 °C, 350 °C and 400 °C show a bimodal microstructure with high-density dislocations, whose average grain sizes are 1.19 ± 0.92 μm, 1.32 ± 1.30 μm, and 1.44 ± 1.33 μm, respectively. A linear relation of ln(d) = -0.05ln(Z)+1.27 was determined relating the average grain size (d) to the Zener-Hollomon parameter (Z). The alloy extruded at 300 °C exhibits an exceptionally high ultimate tensile strength (UTS) of 412.3 ± 5.3 MPa and yield strength (TYS) of 387.6 ± 3.2 MPa, but a low elongation after fracture (El) of 4.9 ± 0.8 %. With the extrusion temperature increasing, the tensile strength gradually decreases. For the 1.2E-400 sample, the TYS and the UTS drop to 347.2 ± 2.1 MPa and 349.4 ± 2.8 MPa, while the El increases to a more acceptable value of 12.6 ± 1.4 %. The microstructure analysis reveals that Ce atoms segregate along grain boundaries and dislocations in the Mg-1.2Ce alloy, which can limit the gliding of GBs or the slipping and climbing of dislocations. Additionally, dislocations can be pinned by Mg12Ce precipitates, thereby also restricting dislocation and grain boundary mobility. Consequently, the dynamic recrystallization (DRX) process is delayed, leading to the formation of a bimodal microstructure.

In this paper, the differences of the impact toughness and microstructure of specimens with (IA specimen) and without intercritical annealing (OIA specimen) after welding thermal simulation were compared to illustrate the effect of intercritical annealing. The results show that after welding thermal simulation, the impact energy of IA specimen is 96.6 J, which is much higher than 5.7 J of OIA specimen. This is because after welding thermal simulation, the high-angle (≥45°) grain boundary density of IA specimen is 0.079 μm−1, which is nearly twice as high as that of OIA specimen. On the other hand, the small-sized M-A constituents (maximum 1 μm) and more retained austenite in IA specimen can effectively deflect or prevent the propagation of the crack, helping to obtain high impact toughness.

There is much promise for creating metal organic framework (MOF) films on metal substrates in fields including sensing and electrical conduction. For these applications, direct production of MOF films with strong bonding on metal substrates is extremely desirable. In this study, a simple one-step method without the need for additives or pre-modification is used to directly create zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) films with strong bonding on zinc substrate. The formation mechanisms of ZIF-8 film are analyzed. The strong bonding ZIF-8 film can be attributed to an in-situ grown ZnO interlayer between the ZIF-8 and substrate. The growth process shows the formation time of zinc oxide on the substrate, which is subsequently covered by ZIF-8 crystals. The ZnO interlayer results from a combination of decomposition products of the solvent and the zinc ions. Furthermore, the ZnO interlayer serves as a sacrificial precursor for the in-situ nucleation and continuous growth of ZIF-8 film. It serves as an anchoring site between ZIF-8 film and substrate, resulting in strong adhesion. This paper describes a simple and straightforward production process that is expected to provide a theoretical basis for the laboratory preparation of ZIF films.

Strain-induced precipitation (SIP) behaviors of 7Mo super-austenitic stainless steel (SASS) were studied by strain relaxation test at 850 °C. Our results reveal that sigma (σ) phases are the predominant SIP of 7Mo SASS, with the chemical formula of (FeNi) (CrMo). SIP first precipitates in granular shape at HAGBs, such as deformed grain boundaries (SIP-GBs), interfaces between deformation twin layers and matrix (SIP-TW), and HAGBs inside deformed grains (SIP-HAGBs). This is attributed to the ability of HAGBs for providing high deformation stored energy, nucleation sites, and efficient element diffusion channels. When the nucleation sites at HAGBs become saturated with increasing holding time, needle-like SIPs (SIP-NL) are precipitated along closely packed planes of γ-Fe matrix. The specific orientation relationships between SIP-NL and matrix, namely (−111)γ-Fe//(00–1)σ, [0–11]γ-Fe//[-110]σ or (-1-1-1)γ-Fe//(00–1)σ, [0–11]γ-Fe//[-110]σ, and the needle-like shape are contribute to minimizing interfacial energy and elastic strain energy of SIP, respectively, thereby promoting SIP-NL. The absence of SIP on dislocations can be attributed to the large critical nucleus size of σ phase (about 4.87 nm), which poses challenges for SIP nucleation through dislocation distortion energy. Mo is the controlling element for the nucleation and growth of SIP. SIP can promote cDRX through particle-induced nucleation (PSN) mechanism during the deformation process, while residual high-density dislocations around SIP can also promote cSRX during the holding process. During holding process, the boundaries of recrystallized grains can also serve as nucleation sites for SIP, thereby promoting SIP, and finally form a multi-layer structure of “σ phase/Recrystallization/σ phase”.

Topologically close-packed phases (TCP phase), with ordered dense-stacked structure, realize the atomic diffusion at high temperatures by forming the defects. In this study, we investigated the σ → γ transformation process at high temperature in cast 7Mo super austenitic stainless steel. Based on in-situ observation and microstructure analysis, it denoted that the modulated structure appeared in σ phase during the transformation process, which caused by the limited mobility of atoms. With extending homogenization time, the new γ phase formed at the boundaries of the modulated structure in σ phase. The size of the σ phase gradually decreased as new γ phase grew up. This discovery enriches the phase transformation mechanism of intermetallic compounds and provides a new sight for applying σ phase at high temperature.

Global warming continues to exert unprecedented impacts on marine habitats. Species distribution models (SDMs) are proven powerful in predicting habitat distribution for marine demersal species under climate change impacts. The Antarctic toothfish, Dissostichus mawsoni (Norman 1937), an ecologically and commercially significant species, is endemic to the Southern Ocean. Utilizing occurrence records and environmental data, we developed an ensemble model that integrates various modelling techniques. This model characterizes species-environment relationships and predicts current and future fishable habitats of D. mawsoni under four climate change scenarios. Ice thickness, depth and mean water temperature were the top three important factors in affecting the distribution of D. mawsoni. The ensemble prediction suggests an overall expansion of fishable habitats, potentially due to the limited occurrence records from fishery-dependent surveys. Future projections indicate varying degrees of fishable habitat loss in large areas of the Amery Ice Shelf’s eastern and western portions. Suitable fishable habitats, including the spawning grounds in the seamounts around the northern Ross Sea and the coastal waters of the Bellingshausen Sea and Amundsen Sea, were persistent under present and future environmental conditions, highlighting the importance to protect these climate refugia from anthropogenic disturbance. Though data deficiency existed in this study, our predictions can provide valuable information for designing climate-adaptive development and conservation strategies in maintaining the sustainability of this species.

The microstructures stability of directional-solidified (DS) MarM247LC alloy were investigated during thermal exposure at 800–950 °C up to 5000 h. In the dendrite core (DC), the particle size distribution (PSD) of γ′ phase shows that the coarsening mechanism is consistent with the trans-interface diffusion-controlled coarsening (TIDC) theory. While at the second dendrite arms (SDA), the γ′ phase gradually undergoes directional coarsening, with the coarsening direction perpendicular to the SDA growth direction. Besides, when the temperature increases to 900 °C, the effective diffusion coefficient and the lattice misfit of γ/γ′ lead to a significant increase in the coarsening rate of the γ′ phase. At the same time, the M6C carbides precipitated a lot in the DC enriching with W element and its distribution gradually changed to a cross-like distribution due to the formation of misfit dislocations of γ matrix. And the{200} plane is the coherent interface of M6C and γ matrix.

As a typical spinel structure material, ZnMn2O4 has been widely researched in the field of electrode materials. However, ZnMn2O4 nanoparticles as electrode materials for supercapacitors have the disadvantages of low conductivity, inferior structural integrity, and easy aggregation, resulting in unsatisfying electrochemical performance. In this work, we use a hydrothermal method and high-temperature calcination to deposit ZnMn2O4 nanoparticles on carbon cloth and explore the influence of hydrothermal reaction time on the deposition morphology and distribution of ZnMn2O4 nanoparticles on carbon cloth. The deposition process of ZnMn2O4 nanoparticles on carbon cloth was analyzed, and a ZMO-9 electrode was deduced to be the most suitable electrode for supercapacitors. A series of electrochemical performance tests show that the ZMO-9 electrode has excellent specific capacitance (specific capacity) (499 F·g−1 (299.4 C·g−1) at a current density of 1 A·g−1) and rate performance (75% capacitance retention at a current density of 12 A·g−1). The assembled asymmetric supercapacitor has an energy density of 46.6 Wh·kg−1 when the power density is 800.1 W·kg−1. This work provides a reference for the structural design of ZnMn2O4 supercapacitor electrode materials and the improvement of electrochemical properties.

The simultaneous provision of strength and ductility of casting superalloy is challenging. In this work, a micro-grain casting process was applied to produce grain-refined K4169 alloy, which exhibited a superior combination of tensile ultimate strength, yield strength and elongation of 1204 MPa, 1041 MPa and 21.0 % at 23 °C. The tensile strengths were significantly enhanced without elongation weakened compared with the conventional casting one, which exhibited values of 947 MPa, 813 MPa and 20.0 %, respectively. As temperature decreased to −196 °C, the elongation of micro-grain K4169 further increased to 26.1 % while decreased to 13.5 % of the conventional one resulting from the different twinning tendencies related to grain refinement. This is because twinning occurs predominantly in grains orientated close to the 〈111〉 // tensile axis, and micro-grain casting process improves the probability for grains to meet this crystallography condition. The deformation twins together with stacking faults and Lomer-Cottrell locks ensured continuous work hardening, resulting in the delayed onset of necking and a better elongation. This work highlights the excellent mechanical properties of micro-grain K4169 and anticipates its enormous application potential. Moreover, the results of micromechanical behavior-microstructure-property relationship may improve the understanding of the plastic deformation of K4169 alloy and guide a further upgrading.

Hot deformation behaviors and dynamic softening mechanisms of the 7Mo super-austenitic stainless steel (SASS) were studied in the temperature range of 1000–1200 °C and stain rate of 0.001–10 s−1. It is found the optimum windows of hot deformation are mainly in the temperature range of 1030–1200 °C and strain rate range of 0.001–0.07 s−1, and temperature range of 1050–1200 °C and strain rate of 10 s−1. The apparent activation energy of 7Mo SASS has reached 558.9 kJ mol−1, which is about 100–180 kJ mol−1 larger than ordinary austenitic stainless steels and about 60–95 kJ mol−1 larger than 4.5–6 wt.% Mo super-austenitic stainless steels. Due to high stacking fault energy (SFE, 161.2 mJ m−2), planar gliding of dislocations is the main deformation mechanism of 7Mo SASS. As a result, dynamic recovery (DRV) and continuous dynamic recrystallization (CDRX) are easy to occur and play dominant roles in dynamic softening mechanism of this steel. In addition, at strain rate of 10 s−1, especially at low temperature, the appearance of microbands (MBs) significantly promotes CDRX. Large initial sigma precipitates and micron-sized dynamic sigma precipitates also promote CDRX through the particle-stimulated nucleation (PSN) mechanism.

Abstract Objective Despite controversy over its origin and definition, the significance of tumour deposit (TD) has been underestimated in the tumour node metastasis (TNM) staging system for colon cancer, especially in stage III patients. We aimed to further confirm the prognostic value of TD in stage III colon cancer and to establish a more accurate ‘coN’ staging system combining TD and lymph node metastasis (LNM). Methods Information on stage III colon cancer patients with a definite TD status was retrospectively collected from the Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) database between 2010 and 2017. The effect of TD on prognosis was estimated using Cox regression analysis. Maximally selected rank statistics were used to select the optimal cut‐off value of TD counts. The predictive power of conventional N staging and the new coN staging was evaluated and compared by Akaike's information criterion (AIC), Harrell's concordance index (C‐index) and time‐dependent receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves. Clinicopathological data of stage III colon cancer patients in the Xiangya database from 2014 to 2018 were collected to validate the coN staging system. Results A total of 39,185 patients with stage III colon cancer were included in our study: 38,446 in the SEER cohort and 739 in the Xiangya cohort. The incidence of TD in stage III colon cancer was approximately 30% (26% in SEER and 30% in the Xiangya database). Effect of Ce and Mn on solidification behaviors and mechanical properties of 7Mo super austenitic stainless steel was investigated via in-situ observations, thermodynamic calculations and microstructural characterization. The results show that the network eutectic microstructure had higher hardness compare with ordinary cast structure. And increasing Ce and Mn can both improve the hardness which could be attributed to the effect of Ce and Mn on the solidification microstructure. Analyses indicate that Ce acted as inclusions and atoms to shorten the solidification interval and refine the microstructure to reduce the σ phase. This finer microstructure increased the average hardness. While increasing Mn content modified Ce–O inclusions into Ce–Mn–O compound inclusions which reduced nucleation sites. Mn also promoted the segregation of Cr and Mo in the liquid to decrease the solidification rate, leading to microstructure coarsening and high content of σ phase. This study may provide a theoretical basis for the composition design and applications of the 7Mo super austenitic stainless steel.

In this study, Mg–6.0Zn–3.0Sn–0.5Mn (ZTM630) magnesium alloy was pre-activated by colloidal Ti, oxalic acid, and phosphoric acid, and a phosphate conversion coating (PCC) was prepared on the alloy surface. The morphology and corrosion resistance of the prepared PCCs were investigated. Surface morphology studies showed that the phosphate crystals that formed the coating were the smallest for the sample pre-activated by phosphoric acid. The coating on the colloidal Ti and the phosphoric acid samples had the largest and the smallest thickness and surface roughness, respectively. The reason for the discrepancy was analyzed by comparing the surface morphologies of alloy samples immediately after the pre-activation treatment and various phosphating treatments. X-ray diffraction analysis revealed that all three PCCs contained the same compounds. The corrosion resistance time from the copper sulfate drop test and the electrochemical data from the potentiodynamic polarization curves showed that the coating pre-activated by phosphoric acid had the best corrosion resistance. Finally, the 1500 h neutral salt spray corrosion test confirmed that the phosphating treated magnesium alloy, which was pre-activated by phosphoric acid, exhibited excellent corrosion resistance and behavior.

Background: Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is an irreversible primary brain disease with insidious onset. The rise of imaging genetics research has led numerous researchers to examine the complex association between genes and brain phenotypes from the perspective of computational biology. Methods: Given that most previous studies have assumed that imaging data and genetic data are linearly related and are therefore unable to explore their nonlinear relationship, our study applied a joint depth semi-supervised nonnegative matrix decomposition (JDSNMF) algorithm to solve this problem. The JDSNMF algorithm jointly decomposed multimodal imaging genetics data into both a standard basis matrix and multiple feature matrices. During the decomposition process, the coefficient matrix A multilayer nonlinear transformation was performed using a neural network to capture nonlinear features. Results: The results using a real dataset demonstrated that the algorithm can fully exploit the association between strongly correlated image genetics data and effectively detect biomarkers of AD. Our results might provide a reference for identifying biologically significant imaging genetic correlations, and help to elucidate disease-related mechanisms. Conclusions: The diagnostic model constructed by the top features of the three modality data sets mined by the algorithm has high accuracy, and these features are expected to become new therapeutic targets for AD.

In-situ observation and microstructure analysis were combined with the nanoindentation to study the effect of the orientation relationship between the σ and γ phases on the mechanical property of the 7Mo super austenite stainless steel. The results from the HRTEM and the nanoindentation indicate that the semi-coherent interface (111)γ // (001)σ (which is composed of several atomic layers in the absence of element segregation) produced by eutectic transformation, effectively improves the strength of the interface.

A 1550 nm all-fiber dual-polarization coherent Doppler lidar (DPCDL) was constructed to measure the depolarization ratio of atmospheric aerosols. In lidar systems, the polarization state of the laser source is typically required to be that of linearly parallel polarization. However, due to the influence of the fiber-optical transmission and the large-mode field output of the telescope, the laser polarization state changes. Hence, a polarizer was mounted to the emitting channel of the telescope to eliminate the depolarization effect. A fiber-optical polarization beam splitter divided the backscattered light into components with parallel and perpendicular polarization. The DPCDL used two coherent channels to receive each of these two polarization components. A calibration procedure was designed for the depolarization ratio to determine the differences in gain and non-responsiveness in the two polarization channels. The calibration factor was found to be 1.13. Additionally, the systematic error and the measured random error of the DPCDL were estimated to evaluate the performance of the system. The DPCDL’s systematic error was found to be about 0.0024, and the standard deviation was lower than 0.0048. The Allan deviations of a 1-min averaging window with a low SNR of 19 dB and a high SNR of 27 dB were 0.0104 and 0.0031, respectively. The random errors at different measured heights were mainly distributed below 0.015. To confirm the authenticity of the atmospheric depolarization ratio measured with the DPCDL, two field observations were conducted with the use of a co-located DPCDL and micro-pulse polarization lidar to perform a comparison. The results showed that the correlation coefficients of the aerosol depolarization ratios were 0.73 and 0.77, respectively. Moreover, the two continuous observations demonstrated the robustness and stability of the DPCDL. The depolarization ratios were detected in different weather conditions.

ObjectiveThe poor prognosis and heterogeneity of stage III colon cancer (CC) suggest the need for more prognostic biomarkers. The tumor microenvironment (TME) plays a crucial role in tumor progression. We aimed to explore novel immune infiltration-associated molecules that serve as potential prognostic and therapeutic targets.MethodsTME immune scores were calculated using “TMEscore” algorithm. Differentially expressed genes between the high and low TME immune score groups were identified and further investigated through a protein-protein interaction network and the Molecular Complex Detection algorithm. Cox regression, meta-analysis and immunohistochemistry were applied to identify genes significantly correlated with relapse-free survival (RFS). We estimated immune infiltration using three different algorithms (TIMER 2.0, CIBERSORTx, and TIDE). Single-cell sequencing data were processed by Seurat software.ResultsPoor RFS was observed in the low TME immune score groups (log-rank P < 0.05). EPSTI1 was demonstrated to be significantly correlated with RFS (P < 0.05) in stage III CC. Meta-analysis comprising 547 patients revealed that EPSTI1 was a protective factor (HR = 0.79, 95% CI, 0.65-0. 96; P < 0.05)). More immune infiltrates were observed in the high EPSTI1 group, especially M1 macrophage and myeloid dendritic cell infiltration (P < 0.05).ConclusionThe TME immune score is positively associated with better survival outcomes. EPSTI1 could serve as a novel immune prognostic biomarker for stage III CC.

The effect of thermal aging at 475 °C and 750 °C of Z3CN20.09M cast duplex stainless steel (CDSS) on microstructure, mechanical and intergranular corrosion properties were investigated by transmission electron microscope (TEM), nano indenter, scanning electron microscope (SEM) and corrosion fatigue test system. The result indicated that the spinodal decomposition and G precipitated were occurred after aged at 475 °C, as well as sigma precipitated at 750 °C. The microstructure degeneration of ferrite was saturated after aged for 2000h and 200 h at 475 °C and 750 °C respectively. The mechanical properties, intergranular corrosion resistance and corrosion fatigue lives were continuing deteriorated with increasing the aging time at both temperatures. The difference of the degeneration mechanisms of Z3CN20.09M CDSS aged at 475 °C and 750 °C was analyzed.

Abstract The Ce0.8Gd0.2O2−δ (CGO) interlayer is commonly applied in solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) to prevent chemical reactions between the (La1−x Sr x )(Co1−y Fe y )O3−δ (LSCF) oxygen electrode and the Y2O3-stabilized ZrO2 (YSZ) electrolyte. However, formation of the YSZ–CGO solid solution with low ionic conductivity and the SrZrO3 (SZO) insulating phase still happens during cell production and long-term operation, causing poor performance and degradation. Unlike many experimental investigations exploring these phenomena, consistent and quantitative computational modeling of the microstructure evolution at the oxygen electrode–electrolyte interface is scarce. We combine thermodynamic, 1D kinetic, and 3D phase-field modeling to computationally reproduce the element redistribution, microstructure evolution, and corresponding ohmic loss of this interface. The influences of different ceramic processing techniques for the CGO interlayer, i.e., screen printing and physical laser deposition (PLD), and of different processing and long-term operating parameters are explored, representing a successful case of quantitative computational engineering of the oxygen electrode–electrolyte interface in SOFCs.

In the present study, the microstructure and mechanical properties of a new Mg-4Al-3.5Ca-2Gd (AXE432) alloy are investigated. The microstructure of the as-cast AXE432 alloy consists of α-Mg, C14 (Mg2Ca), and C36((Mg, Al)2Ca) phases. After the heat treatment at 480 °C for 8 h, the C14 with fine lamellar structure changes from narrow stripes to micro-scale particles, and part of the C36 and the C14 dissolve into the α-Mg matrix, with many short needle-shaped C15 (Al2Ca) phase precipitating in the primary a-Mg grains. The AXE432 alloy extruded at a temperature as high as 420 °C exhibits a refined dynamically recrystallized (DRXed) microstructure with grain sizes less than 1.5 ± 0.5 μm and a strong {0001}1¯0> basal texture with a maximum intensity of 5.62. A complex combination of the effects from grain size, texture, second-phase particles, and strain hardening results in balanced mechanical properties, with the tensile yield strength (TYS), ultimate tensile strength (UTS), elongation (El), compressive yield strength (CYS), and ultimate compressive strength (UCS) of 331.4 ± 2.1 MPa, 336.9 ± 3.8 MPa, 16.1 ± 2.3%, 270.4 ± 1.6 MPa and 574.5 ± 12.4 MPa, respectively.

ABSTRACT: Background: Thulium laser (Tm:YAG) prostate surgery is a safe and effective procedure with low morbidity and comparable clinical outcomes to those of transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP). However, the sexual function outcomes (erectile and ejaculatory function) have been scarcely studied. Aim: We aimed to assess the impact of Tm:YAG prostate surgery on sexual outcomes (erectile and ejaculatory function) and compare them with those patients undergoing TURP. Material and Methods: We searched digital databases like PUBMED, SCOPUS, CENTRAL and EMBASE using relevant keywords to identify comparative studies on TURP and non-comparative studies on Tm:YAG prostate surgery that assessed sexual outcomes. We performed qualitative and quantitative analyses with the extracted data. We carried out a meta-analysis to compare postoperative International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF-5) scores and incidences of retrograde ejaculation (RE) in patients undergoing either Tm:YAG or TURP. The pre-operative and post-operative IIEF-5 scores were pooled to estimate overall scores. Results: We included 5 comparative and 8 non-comparative studies in this review. We found the postoperative IIEF-5 score improvements to be significantly higher in the Tm:YAG prostate surgery group than in the TURP group with a significant mean difference (MD) of 0.45 (95% CI, 0.18 to 0.72; P = .001). We found no significant associations between the procedures. The pooled OR for the association of RE was estimated at 0.90 (95% CI, 0.50 to 1.60; P = .71; I2 = 0%). Conclusion: Tm:YAG prostate surgery improves erectile function more than TURP, according to our findings. Tm:YAG prostate aided surgery also outperforms TURP in terms of preserving sexual function following surgery.However, We found similar or no difference in incidence of RE between Tm:YAG prostate surgery and TURP.Bibo L, Hao L, Pang K, et al. IntroductionUrologic malignancies are the major causes of morbidity and mortality in men over 40 years old, accounting for more than 20% of all malignant tumors. Several meta-analyses are shown that statin exposure can reduce the morbidity and mortality of various urologic cancers. The adjuvant roles of statin in tumor prevention and anti-tumor activity are now being gradually recognized and have gained attention. Nevertheless, to date, multiple clinical studies and meta-analyses found inconsistent results of their anti-cancer effects. This study aims to evaluate the credibility of the published systematic reviews and meta-analyses that assessed the effects of statin exposure for the incidence and mortality of urologic cancers through an umbrella review.Methods and analysisThe guidance of overviews of systematic reviews reported in the Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews of interventions will be followed while performing and reporting this umbrella review. This project was registered in PROSPERO with the registration number of CRD42020208854. PubMed, Embase and Cochrane Library will be searched for systematic reviews to identify and appraise systematic reviews or meta-analyses of interventional and observational studies examining statin use and the risks of urologic cancer incidence and mortality without language restriction. The search will be carried out on 10 February 2022. Systematic reviews based on qualitative, quantitative or mixed-methods studies will be involved and critically evaluated by two authors using the Assessment of Multiple Systematic Reviews 2 (AMSTAR2, an updated version of AMSTAR) tool. We will determine the level of evidence using the GRADE (Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development, and Evaluations) tool. The summary effect estimates will be calculated using random-effects models. Between- study heterogeneity will be assessed using the I2 statistic. Furthermore, we will also assess the evidence of excess significance bias and evidence of small study effects.Ethics and disseminationEthics approval is not required as we will search and gather data based on the published systematic reviews and meta-analyses. We plan to publish the results of this umbrella review in a peer-reviewed journal and will be presented at a urological disease conference. Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is a highly heterogeneous malignancy. Single-cell sequencing (scRNA-seq) technology enables quantitative gene expression measurements that underlie the phenotypic diversity of cells within a tumor. By integrating PDAC scRNA-seq and bulk sequencing data, we aim to extract relevant biological insights into the ductal cell features that lead to different prognoses. Firstly, differentially expressed genes (DEGs) of ductal cells between normal and tumor tissues were identified through scRNA-seq data analysis. The effect of DEGs on PDAC survival was then assessed in the bulk sequencing data. Based on these DEGs (LY6D, EPS8, DDIT4, TNFSF10, RBP4, NPY1R, MYADM, SLC12A2, SPCS3, NBPF15) affecting PDAC survival, a risk score model was developed to classify patients into high-risk and low-risk groups. The results showed that the overall survival was significantly longer in the low-risk group (p < 0.05). The model also revealed reliable predictive power in different subgroups of patients. The high-risk group had a higher tumor mutational burden (TMB) (p < 0.05), with significantly higher mutation frequencies in KRAS and ADAMTS12 (p < 0.05). Meanwhile, the high-risk group had a higher tumor stemness score (p < 0.05). However, there was no significant difference in the immune cell infiltration scores between the two groups. Lastly, drug candidates targeting risk model genes were identified, and seven compounds might act against PDAC through different mechanisms. In conclusion, we have developed a validated survival assessment model, which acted as an independent risk factor for PDAC.

Background Sarcopenia is a progressive age-related skeletal muscle disorder characterized by decreased muscle mass and loss of muscle function. Recent studies have shown that sarcopenia is able to predict a variety of clinical outcomes after spinal surgery. Controversy still exists among previous reports in terms of the definition and measurement of sarcopenia, these findings are heterogeneous so far. Therefore, the aim of the current study is to assess the up-to-date evidence of sarcopenia for postoperative outcomes among people undergoing spinal surgery. Methods and analysis This protocol was carried out based on the preferred reporting items for systematic review and meta-analysis protocols (PRISMA-P) statement. It has been pre-registered in PROSPERO with the registration number of CRD42021260459. Three databases (including Pubmed, EMBASE, and Cochrane Library) will be searched from inception through May 10, 2021 to determine related cohort studies examining sarcopenia on multidimensional outcomes in patients undergoing spinal surgery. Major outcomes will be involved including mortality, morbidity, length of stay, postoperative complications or adverse events. DerSimonian & Laird random-effects meta-analysis will be used to calculate pooled odds ratio (OR) for binary data and pooled weighted mean differences (WMDs) or standardized mean differences (SMDs) for continuous data. The Newcastle-Ottawa Scale (NOS) will be used to assess the risk of bias of included studies. Narrative synthesis will be carried out if a pooled analysis is not possible. Ethics and dissemination Ethical approval is not required for this study as the data involved are from the published literatures. We intend to disseminate or share the results of the study in a peer-reviewed journal or at relevant conferences. PROSPERO registration number CRD42021260459.

The effects of Grp (graphite particles) addition and holding time on the microstructure and mechanical properties of the Grp/AZ91D composite were investigated in this work. The results indicated that the distribution of Grp in the matrix was determined by the self-stabilizing mechanism and relationships between the solidifying interface and the particles. Due to the self-stabilizing mechanism, a small amount of Grp would uniformly distribute in the melt alloy, and as the amount of Grp increased, agglomeration would occur. Accordingly, the former would be engulfed by the solidifying interface and the latter would be pushed. With an increased holding time, Grp tended to agglomerate, due to the interfacial reaction that occurred, and as a result, the solidifying interface will push it. The Grp/AZ91D composite with the addition of 1.5 wt.% Grp and a holding time of 15 min obtained grains 30.2 μm in size with a hardness of 89.07 HV, which was a decrease of 83.04% and increase of 35.06% compared to AZ91D, respectively.

Background/Aims: Pancreatic cancer cells (PCC) is one of the most risky cancers and gemcitabine (GEM) is the standard first-line drug for treating PCC. The PCC will develop drug resistance to GEM after a period of treatment. However, the detailed molecular mechanism of pathogenesis and drug resistance remains unresolved. Methods: we employed qRT-PCR and western blot to examine the expression level of CXCR4, let-7a and HMGA2. In addition, we used MTT assay to detect cell proliferation and transwell assay to measure migration and invasiveness. The expression level of epithelial marker E-cadherin and mesenthymal marker N-cadherin was detected by western blot. The apoptosis was determined using annexin V-FITC/PI apoptosis detection kit by flow cytometry. Results: we first proved that CXCR4 negatively regulated let-7a in PCC. Next, let-7a was confirmed to play crucial role in tumorigenesis, metastasis and drug resistance of pancreatic cancer cells Bxpc-3 and Panc-1 in vitro and in vivo. Finally, we identified HMGA2 as important downsteam target of let-7a in PCC and overexpression of HMGA2 restores cell proliferation, metastasis and chemosensitivity of GEM inhibited by let-7a. Conlusion: Taken together, we show an important signaling pathway involved in pathogenesis and drug resistance of PCC, thereby providing deeper insight into molecular mechanism by which CXCR4/let-7a regulates tumorigenesis and drug resistance of PCC. These findings will help us develop new strategies for diagnosis and treatment of PCC.

The direct and indirect radiation forcing of aerosol particles deeply affect the energy budget and the atmospheric chemical and physical processes. To retrieve the vertical aerosol mass fluxes and to investigate the vertical transport process of aerosol by a coherent Doppler lidar (CDL), a practical method for instrumental calibration and aerosol optical properties retrieval based on CDL and sun photometer synchronization observations has been developed. A conversion of aerosol optical properties to aerosol microphysical properties is achieved by applying a well-developed algorithm. Furthermore, combining the vertical velocity measured simultaneously with a CDL, we use the eddy covariance (EC) method to retrieve the vertical turbulent aerosol mass fluxes by a CDL and sun photometer with a spatial resolution of 15 m and a temporal resolution of 1 s throughout the planetary boundary layer (PBL). In this paper, we present a measurement case of 24-h continuous fluxes observations and analyze the diurnal variation of the vertical velocity, the aerosol backscatter coefficient at 1550 nm, the mean aerosol mass concentration, and the vertical aerosol mass fluxes on 13 April 2020. Finally, the main relative errors in aerosol mass flux retrieval, including sample error σF,S, aerosol optical properties retrieval error σF,R, and error introduced from aerosol microphysical properties retrieval algorithm σF,I, are evaluated. The sample error σF,S is the dominating error which increases with height except during 12:00–13:12 LST. The aerosol optical properties retrieval error σF,R is 21% and the error introduced from the aerosol microphysical properties retrieval algorithm σF,I is less than 50%.

MicroRNAs regulate most protein-coding genes, including genes important in cancer and other diseases. In this study, we demonstrated that the expression of miR-142 could be significantly suppressed in pancreatic cancer specimens and cell lines compared to their adjacent tissues and normal pancreatic cells. Growth and invasion of PANC-1 and SW1990 cells were attenuated by overexpression of miR-142 in vitro. With the help of bioinformatics analysis, hypoxia-inducible factor 1 (HIF-1α) was identified to be a direct target of miR-142, and a luciferase reporter experiment confirmed this discovery. Overexpression of miR-142 decreases protein expression of HIF-1α. In the hypoxic microenvironment, HIF-1α was up-regulated while miR-142 was down-regulated. The invaded cells significantly increased in the hypoxic microenvironment compared to the normoxic microenvironment. The hypoxia treatment induced cells’ proliferation, and invasion could be inhibited by miR-142 overexpression or HIF-1α inhibition. Moreover, expression of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) markers, Vimentin, VEGF-C and E-cad, was altered under hypoxia conditions and regulated by miR-142/HIF-1α. Above all, these findings provided insights on the functional mechanism of miR-142, suggesting that the miR-142/HIF-1α axis may interfere with the proliferative and invasive properties of pancreatic cancer cells, and indicated that miR-142 could be a potential therapeutic target for pancreatic cancer.

Background: The alga Laminaria japonica is the most economically important brown seaweed cultured in China, which is used as food and aquatic animal feedstuff. However, the use of L. japonica as a feedstuff in Apostichopus japonicas farming is not ideal because A. japonicas does not produce enough enzyme activity for degrading the large amount of algin present in L. japonica. In this study, semi solid fermentation of the L. japonica feedstuff employing a Bacillus strain as the microbe was used to as a mean to degrade the algin content in L. japonica feedstuff. Results: The Bacillus strain, Bacillus amyloliquefaciens WB1, was isolated by virtue of its ability to utilize sodium alginate as the sole carbon source. Eight factors affecting growth and algin-degrading capacity of WB1 were investigated. The results of Plackett–Burman design indicated that fermentation time, beef extract, and solvent to solid ratio were the significant parameters. Furthermore, the mutual interaction between the solvent to solid ratio and beef extract concentration was more significant than the other pairs of parameters on algin degradation. Optimal values obtained from Central-Composite Design were 113.94 h for fermentation time, 0.3% (w/v) beef extract and 44.87 (v/w) ratio of solvent to feedstuff. Under optimal conditions, 56.88% of the algin was degraded when a 50-fold scale-up fermentation was carried out, using a 5-L fermenter. Conclusions: This study provides an alternative and economical way to reduce the algin content in L. japonica through degradation by WB1, making it a promising potential source of feed for cultured L. japonica.

The pitting corrosion resistance of the austenitic stainless steel 308L-316L welded joint was investigated by electrochemical tests. It is found that the weld zone was the most critical for pits to initiate in the welded joint due to relatively instable passive film with few Mo and inhomogeneous passive film induced by multiple (Mn, Al, and Si) oxides and continuous network of 13.94 vol.% δ ferrites. By statistical analysis, 53.8% pits initiated at (Mn, Al, and Si) oxides, 23.0% in austenite, and 23.2% at interface between ferrite and austenite. In addition, heat-affected zone was prone to have pitting corrosion compared with the base metal since residual strain was much higher in the region.

Previous studies have found that fecundity is a multigenic trait regulated, in part, by mitochondrial-nuclear (mit-n) genetic interactions. However, the identification of specific nuclear genetic loci or genes interacting with the mitochondrial genome and contributing to the quantitative trait fecundity is an unsolved issue. Here, a panel of recombinant inbred advanced intercrossed lines (RIAILs), established from a cross between the N2 and CB4856 strains of C. elegans, were used to characterize the underlying genetic basis of mit-n genetic interactions related to fecundity. Sixty-seven single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were identified by association mapping to be linked with fecundity among 115 SNPs linked to mitotype. This indicated significant epistatic effects between nuclear and mitochondria genetics on fecundity. In addition, two specific nuclear genetic loci interacting with the mitochondrial genome and contributing to fecundity were identified. A significant reduction in fecundity was observed in the RIAILs that carried CB4856 mitochondria and a N2 genotype at locus 1 or a CB4856 genotype at locus 2 relative to the wild-type strains. Then, a hybrid strain (CNC10) was established, which was bred as homoplasmic for the CB4856 mtDNA genome and N2 genotype at locus 1 in the CB4856 nuclear background. The mean fecundity of CNC10 was half the fecundity of the control strain. Several functional characteristics of the mitochondria in CNC10 were also influenced by mit-n interactions. Overall, experimental evidence was presented that specific nuclear genetic loci or genes have interactions with the mitochondrial genome and are associated with fecundity. In total, 18 genes were identified using integrative approaches to have interactions with the mitochondrial genome and to contribute to fecundity.

Cast duplex stainless steels are susceptible to thermal aging during long-term service at temperatures ranging from 280°C to 450°C. To analyze the effect of thermal aging on leak-before-break (LBB) behavior, three-dimensional finite element analysis models were built for circumferentially cracked pipes. Based on the elastic–plastic fracture mechanics theory, the detectable leakage crack length calculation and J-integral stability assessment diagram approach were carried out under different bending moments. The LBB curves and LBB assessment diagrams for unaged and thermally aged pipes were constructed. The results show that the detectable leakage crack length for thermally aged pipes increases with increasing bending moments, whereas the critical crack length decreases. The ligament instability line and critical crack length line for thermally aged pipes move downward and to the left, respectively, and unsafe LBB assessment results will be produced if thermal aging is not considered. If the applied bending moment is increased, the degree of safety decreases in the LBB assessment.

Zirconium alloys are widely used in nuclear reactors as structural materials. During the operation, they are exposed to fast neutrons. Ion irradiation is used to simulate the damage introduced by neutron irradiation. In this article, we briefly review the neutron irradiation damage of zirconium alloys, then summarize the effect of ion irradiation on microstructural evolution, mechanical and corrosion properties, and their relationships. The microstructure components consist of dislocation loops, second phase precipitates, and gas bubbles. The microstructure parameters are also included such as domain size and microstrain determined by X-ray diffraction and the S-parameter determined by positron annihilation. Understanding the relationships of microstructure and properties is necessary for developing new advanced materials with higher irradiation tolerance.

Microstructure and creep strength evolution in the ruptured 2.6 wt% W G115 specimens after creep tests were investigated under stresses of 120∼200 MPa at 650 °C. The growth of the lath during the creep tests was accompanied with the coarsening of second phase particles and the reduction of dislocation density. The tempered martensitic lath structure (TMLS) transformed into polygonal sub-grain structure when the pinning force due to the precipitates was lower than about 0.68 MPa. The Laves phase particles were irregular during the short-term creep and grew to be equiaxed shape after long-term creep.

The microstructure, mechanical property, and in vitro biocorrosion behavior of as-cast single-phase biodegradable Mg–1.5Zn–0.6Zr alloy were investigated and compared with a commercial as-cast AZ91D alloy. The results show that the Mg–1.5Zn–0.6Zr alloy had a single-phase solid solution structure, with an average grain size of 34.7 ± 13.1 μm. The alloy exhibited ultimate tensile strength of 168 ± 2.0 MPa, yield strength of 83 ± 0.6 MPa, and elongation of 9.1 ± 0.6%. Immersion tests and electrochemical measurements reveal that the alloy displayed lower biocorrosion rate and more uniform corrosion mode than AZ91D in Hank's solution. The elimination of intensive galvanic corrosion reactions and the formation of a much more compact and uniform corrosion film mainly account for the better biocorrosion properties of the Mg–1.5Zn–0.6Zr alloy than AZ91D.

The influence of Mo additions on the mechanical properties of cast duplex stainless steel (CDSS) before and after thermal aging was investigated using a series of model alloys with different Mo contents ranging from 0 to 1.75 wt%. By increasing Mo content, the content, morphology, and distribution of ferrite in CDSS change significantly. After thermal aging at 400 °C for 3000 h, the impact properties of all CDSS specimens obviously decline, and their hardness values in ferrite significantly increase. The impact energies of the aged CDSS decline, and the proportion of cleavage features significantly increases with Mo content increasing. The spinodal decomposition kinetics in ferrite is not significantly affected by the Mo contents. High content and interconnected ferrite will lead to the severe embrittlement in CDSS after thermal aging.

The low cycle fatigue (LCF) behaviors of cast duplex stainless steel (CDSS) thermally aged at different times were investigated under different strain amplitudes. The effects of thermal aging on the LCF lives of CDSS are closely related to the strain amplitude. At a low strain amplitude, the fatigue life of the material increases significantly after thermal aging, while the LCF life decreases with an increasing aging time at a high strain amplitude. After thermal aging at 400 °C for 10,000 h, the fatigue fracture morphologies of CDSS change from fatigue fringes to mixture features including fatigue fringes in austenite and cleavage cracks in ferrite. Severe plastic deformation in ferrite of the aged CDSS under a high strain amplitude causes the cleavage cracking of ferrite. The premature failure of ferrite accelerates the propagation of fatigue crack and shortens the fatigue life at a high strain amplitude.

T92 heat-resistant steel is among the most promising candidate materials for structural components in the Generation IV (GEN-IV) reactors. The effects of tempering temperature on the microstructure and mechanical properties of the T92 steel were studied. The microstructural evolution of the T92 steel subjected to various temperatures of the tempering process were investigated using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and synchrotron radiation X-ray diffraction (SR-XRD). The mechanical properties of Vickers hardness, tensile test, and impact test were also investigated. The results showed that the grain size of the prior austenite does not significantly change during the tempering process, while the width of the martensite lath and the size of the carbide precipitates increased with increasing tempering temperature. The hardness and yield strength of the T92 steel decreased, and the plasticity and impact energy increased with increasing tempering temperature. Coarsening of the carbide precipitates during the tempering process was considered to be the dominant factor that reduced the yield strength in the T92 steel.

Cast duplex stainless steel (CDSS) components suffer embrittlement after long-term thermal aging. The deformation and fracture behaviors of un-aged and thermally aged (at 400 °C for 20,000 h) CDSS were investigated using in situ scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The tensile strength of CDSS had a small increase, and the tensile fracture changed from ductile to brittle after thermal aging. Observations using in situ SEM indicated that the initial cracks appeared in the ferrite perpendicular to the loading direction after the macroscopic stress exceeded a critical value. The premature fracture of ferrite grains caused stress on the phase boundaries, leading the cracks to grow into austenite. The cleavage fracture of ferrite accelerated the shearing of austenite and reduced the plasticity of the thermally aged CDSS.

A series of sulfide coupled semiconductors supported on SiO2, (), was prepared by incipient wet impregnation method. The photocatalysts were characterized by XRD, XPS, TPR, and UV/Vis DRS. Characterization results show that the chemical actions between ZnS and CdS resulted in the formation of solid solutions on the surface of the support and the formation of them is affected by the molar ratio of ZnS/CdS and calcination temperature. Performance of photocatalysts was tested in the home made reactor under both UV light and solar-simulated light irradiation by detecting the rate of the photocatalytic H2 evolution from glycerol solution. The hydrogen production rates are related to the catalyst composition, surface structure, photoabsorption property, as well as the amount of solid solution. The maximum rate of hydrogen production, 550 μmol·h−1 under UV light irradiation and 210 μmol·h−1 under solar-simulated light irradiation, was obtained over Cd0.8Zn0.2S/SiO2 solid solution calcined at 723 K.
