Abstract

The Super-Kamiokande and T2K collaborations present a joint measurement of neutrino oscillation parameters from their atmospheric and beam neutrino data. It uses a common interaction model for events overlapping in neutrino energy and correlated detector systematic uncertainties between the two datasets, which are found to be compatible. Using 3244.4 days of atmospheric data and a beam exposure of $19.7(16.3) \times 10^{20}$ protons on target in (anti)neutrino mode, the analysis finds a 1.9$\sigma$ exclusion of CP-conservation (defined as $J_{CP}=0$) and a preference for the normal mass ordering., Comment: 10 pages, 3 figures

Abstract

The Jinping Neutrino Experiment(JNE), conducted within the China Jinping Underground Laboratory, aims to detect and analyze of solar neutrinos, geo-neutrinos, and supernova neutrinos. A one-ton prototype will soon be in commision with an upgrade from 30 channels to 60 channels, which will increase the data bandwidth by one to two orders of magnitude and exceed the capacity of the current CAEN DAQ system. Additionally, enhancing the performance and flexibility of JNE DAQ system is crucial. This paper presents the design of a new Tsinghua DAQ system for the JNE and its performance and stability. The new Tsinghua DAQ(THDAQ) system for JNE is based on the cPCI protocol and demonstrates powerful performance improvements: ADC ENOB of the THDAQ system approximately exceeds 9.8-bit, marking a 14% improvement over the CAEN DAQ system; The maximum clock deviation within a single chassis is 85.6 ps, satisfying sub-nanosecond synchronization criteria; Each DAQ board features two QSFP+ optical ports with 82.5Gbps transmission capability, while the PCIe board supports a transmission rate of 100.2 Gbps. In addition, comparative experiments between the two systems were also tested in detail. The analysis results of waveform and charge spectrum prove the high stability of the THDAQ system. This provides a foundation for the 60-channel and 4000-channel DAQ systems.

Abstract

Neutrinos from very nearby supernovae, such as Betelgeuse, are expected to generate more than ten million events over 10\,s in Super-Kamokande (SK). At such large event rates, the buffers of the SK analog-to-digital conversion board (QBEE) will overflow, causing random loss of data that is critical for understanding the dynamics of the supernova explosion mechanism. In order to solve this problem, two new DAQ modules were developed to aid in the observation of very nearby supernovae. The first of these, the SN module, is designed to save only the number of hit PMTs during a supernova burst and the second, the Veto module, prescales the high rate neutrino events to prevent the QBEE from overflowing based on information from the SN module. In the event of a very nearby supernova, these modules allow SK to reconstruct the time evolution of the neutrino event rate from beginning to end using both QBEE and SN module data. This paper presents the development and testing of these modules together with an analysis of supernova-like data generated with a flashing laser diode. We demonstrate that the Veto module successfully prevents DAQ overflows for Betelgeuse-like supernovae as well as the long-term stability of the new modules. During normal running the Veto module is found to issue DAQ vetos a few times per month resulting in a total dead time less than 1\,ms, and does not influence ordinary operations. Additionally, using simulation data we find that supernovae closer than 800~pc will trigger Veto module resulting in a prescaling of the observed neutrino data., Comment: 28 pages, 18 figures. We present the results of the charge ratio ($R$) and polarization ($P^{\mu}_{0}$) measurements using the decay electron events collected from 2008 September to 2022 June by the Super-Kamiokande detector. Because of its underground location and long operation, we performed high precision measurements by accumulating cosmic-ray muons. We measured the muon charge ratio to be $R=1.32 \pm 0.02$ $(\mathrm{stat.}{+}\mathrm{syst.})$ at $E_{\mu}\cos \theta_{\mathrm{Zenith}}=0.7^{+0.3}_{-0.2}$ $\mathrm{TeV}$, where $E_{\mu}$ is the muon energy and $\theta_{\mathrm{Zenith}}$ is the zenith angle of incoming cosmic-ray muons. This result is consistent with the Honda flux model while this suggests a tension with the $\pi K$ model of $1.9\sigma$. We also measured the muon polarization at the production location to be $P^{\mu}_{0}=0.52 \pm 0.02$ $(\mathrm{stat.}{+}\mathrm{syst.})$ at the muon momentum of $0.9^{+0.6}_{-0.1}$ $\mathrm{TeV}/c$ at the surface of the mountain; this also suggests a tension with the Honda flux model of $1.5\sigma$. This is the most precise measurement ever to experimentally determine the cosmic-ray muon polarization near $1~\mathrm{TeV}/c$. Abstract

The first loading of gadolinium (Gd) into Super-Kamiokande in 2020 was successful, and the neutron capture efficiency on Gd reached 50\%. To further increase the Gd neutron capture efficiency to 75\%, 26.1 tons of $\rm Gd_2(\rm SO_4)_3\cdot \rm 8H_2O$ was additionally loaded into Super-Kamiokande (SK) from May 31 to July 4, 2022. As the amount of loaded $\rm Gd_2(\rm SO_4)_3\cdot \rm 8H_2O$ was doubled compared to the first loading, the capacity of the powder dissolving system was doubled. We also developed new batches of gadolinium sulfate with even further reduced radioactive impurities. In addition, a more efficient screening method was devised and implemented to evaluate these new batches of $\rm Gd_2(\rm SO_4)_3\cdot \rm 8H_2O$. Following the second loading, the Gd concentration in SK was measured to be $333.5\pm2.5$ ppm via an Atomic Absorption Spectrometer (AAS). From the mean neutron capture time constant of neutrons from an Am/Be calibration source, the Gd concentration was independently measured to be 332.7 $\pm$ 6.8(sys.) $\pm$ 1.1(stat.) ppm, consistent with the AAS result. Furthermore, during the loading the Gd concentration was monitored continually using the capture time constant of each spallation neutron produced by cosmic-ray muons,and the final neutron capture efficiency was shown to become 1.5 times higher than that of the first loaded phase, as expected., Comment: 34 pages, 13 figures, submitted to Nuclear Inst. and Methods in Physics Research, A

Abstract

Among multi-messenger observations of the next galactic core-collapse supernova, Super-Kamiokande (SK) plays a critical role in detecting the emitted supernova neutrinos, determining the direction to the supernova (SN), and notifying the astronomical community of these observations in advance of the optical signal. On 2022, SK has increased the gadolinium dissolved in its water target (SK-Gd) and has achieved a Gd concentration of 0.033%, resulting in enhanced neutron detection capability, which in turn enables more accurate determination of the supernova direction. Accordingly, SK-Gd's real-time supernova monitoring system (Abe te al. 2016b) has been upgraded. SK_SN Notice, a warning system that works together with this monitoring system, was released on December 13, 2021, and is available through GCN Notices (Barthelmy et al. 2000). When the monitoring system detects an SN-like burst of events, SK_SN Notice will automatically distribute an alarm with the reconstructed direction to the supernova candidate within a few minutes. In this paper, we present a systematic study of SK-Gd's response to a simulated galactic SN. Assuming a supernova situated at 10 kpc, neutrino fluxes from six supernova models are used to characterize SK-Gd's pointing accuracy using the same tools as the online monitoring system. The pointing accuracy is found to vary from 3-7$^\circ$ depending on the models. However, if the supernova is closer than 10 kpc, SK_SN Notice can issue an alarm with three-degree accuracy, which will benefit follow-up observations by optical telescopes with large fields of view., Comment: 38 pages, 29 figures, 6 tables

Abstract

Superlattices are materials created by the alternating growth of two chemically different materials. The direct consequence of creating a superlattice is the folding of the Brillouin zone which gives rise to additional electronic bands and phonon modes. This has been successfully exploited to achieve new transport and optical properties in semiconductor superlattices, for example. Here, we show that multiferroic BiFeO$_3$/LaFeO$_3$ superlattices are more than just periodic chemical stacking. Using transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and first-principles calculations, we demonstrate the existence of a new order of FeO$_6$ octahedra, with a period along the growth direction about twice that of the chemical supercell, i.e. a superorder. The effect of this new structural order on the lattice dynamics is studied with ultrafast optical pump-probe experiments. While a mode at 1.2 THz is attributed solely to the chemical modulation of the superlattice, the existence of another 0.7 THz mode seems to be explained only by a double Brillouin zone folding in agreement with the structural description. Our work shows that multiferroic BiFeO$_3$/LaFeO$_3$ superlattices can be used to tune the spectrum of coherent THz phonons, and potentially that of magnons or electromagnons.

Abstract

The RHIC interaction rate at sPHENIX will reach around 3 MHz in pp collisions and requires the detector readout to reject events by a factor of over 200 to fit the DAQ bandwidth of 15 kHz. Some critical measurements, such as heavy flavor production in pp collisions, often require the analysis of particles produced at low momentum. This prohibits adopting the traditional approach, where data rates are reduced through triggering on rare high momentum probes. Abstract

An analysis of solar neutrino data from the fourth phase of Super-Kamiokande~(SK-IV) from October 2008 to May 2018 is performed and the results are presented. The observation time of the data set of SK-IV corresponds to $2970$~days and the total live time for all four phases is $5805$~days. For more precise solar neutrino measurements, several improvements are applied in this analysis: lowering the data acquisition threshold in May 2015, further reduction of the spallation background using neutron clustering events, precise energy reconstruction considering the time variation of the PMT gain. The observed number of solar neutrino events in $3.49$--$19.49$ MeV electron kinetic energy region during SK-IV is $65,443^{+390}_{-388}\,(\mathrm{stat.})\pm 925\,(\mathrm{syst.})$ events. Corresponding $\mathrm{^{8}B}$ solar neutrino flux is $(2.314 \pm 0.014\, \rm{(stat.)} \pm 0.040 \, \rm{(syst.)}) \times 10^{6}~\mathrm{cm^{-2}\,s^{-1}}$, assuming a pure electron-neutrino flavor component without neutrino oscillations. The flux combined with all SK phases up to SK-IV is $(2.336 \pm 0.011\, \rm{(stat.)} \pm 0.043 \, \rm{(syst.)}) \times 10^{6}~\mathrm{cm^{-2}\,s^{-1}}$. Based on the neutrino oscillation analysis from all solar experiments, including the SK $5805$~days data set, the best-fit neutrino oscillation parameters are $\rm{sin^{2} \theta_{12,\,solar}} = 0.306 \pm 0.013 $ and $\Delta m^{2}_{21,\,\mathrm{solar}} = (6.10^{+ 0.95}_{-0.81}) \times 10^{-5}~\rm{eV}^{2}$, with a deviation of about 1.5$\sigma$ from the $\Delta m^{2}_{21}$ parameter obtained by KamLAND. The best-fit neutrino oscillation parameters obtained from all solar experiments and KamLAND are $\sin^{2} \theta_{12,\,\mathrm{global}} = 0.307 \pm 0.012 $ and $\Delta m^{2}_{21,\,\mathrm{global}} = (7.50^{+ 0.19}_{-0.18}) \times 10^{-5}~\rm{eV}^{2}$., Comment: 47 pages, 61 figures

Abstract

We present a measurement of neutrino oscillation parameters with the Super-Kamiokande detector using atmospheric neutrinos from the complete pure-water SK I-V (April 1996-July 2020) data set, including events from an expanded fiducial volume. The data set corresponds to 6511.3 live days and an exposure of 484.2 kiloton-years. Measurements of the neutrino oscillation parameters $\Delta m^2_{32}$, $\sin^2\theta_{23}$, $\sin^2 \theta_{13}$, $\delta_{CP}$, and the preference for the neutrino mass ordering are presented with atmospheric neutrino data alone, and with constraints on $\sin^2 \theta_{13}$ from reactor neutrino experiments. Our analysis including constraints on $\sin^2 \theta_{13}$ favors the normal mass ordering at the 92.3% level., Comment: 24 pages, 18 figures

Abstract

We report the first measurement of the atmospheric neutrino-oxygen neutral-current quasielastic (NCQE) cross section in the gadolinium-loaded Super-Kamiokande (SK) water Cherenkov detector. In June 2020, SK began a new experimental phase, named SK-Gd, by loading 0.011% by mass of gadolinium into the ultrapure water of the SK detector. The introduction of gadolinium to ultrapure water has the effect of improving the neutron-tagging efficiency. Using a 552.2 day data set from August 2020 to June 2022, we measure the NCQE cross section to be 0.74 $\pm$ 0.22(stat.) $^{+0.85}_{-0.15}$ (syst.) $\times$ 10$^{-38}$ cm$^{2}$/oxygen in the energy range from 160 MeV to 10 GeV, which is consistent with the atmospheric neutrino-flux-averaged theoretical NCQE cross section and the measurement in the SK pure-water phase within the uncertainties. Furthermore, we compare the models of the nucleon-nucleus interactions in water and find that the Binary Cascade model and the Liege Intranuclear Cascade model provide a somewhat better fit to the observed data than the Bertini Cascade model. Since the atmospheric neutrino-oxygen NCQE reactions are one of the main backgrounds in the search for diffuse supernova neutrino background (DSNB), these new results will contribute to future studies - and the potential discovery - of the DSNB in SK., Comment: 8 pages, 3 figures

Abstract

We report a search for time variations of the solar $^8$B neutrino flux using 5804 live days of Super-Kamiokande data collected between May 31, 1996, and May 30, 2018. Super-Kamiokande measured the precise time of each solar neutrino interaction over 22 calendar years to search for solar neutrino flux modulations with unprecedented precision. Periodic modulations are searched for in a dataset comprising five-day interval solar neutrino flux measurements with a maximum likelihood method. We also applied the Lomb-Scargle method to this dataset to compare it with previous reports. The only significant modulation found is due to the elliptic orbit of the Earth around the Sun. Abstract

The primary accelerator of DCLS (Dalian Coherent Light Source) operates at a repetition rate of 20 Hz now, and the beam is divided at the end of the linear accelera-tor through Kicker to make two 10 Hz beamlines work simultaneously. For the simultaneous emission FEL of two beamlines, the beam energy of the two beamlines is required to be controlled independently, so we need to set the amplitude and phase of each beamline. This paper implements a microwave amplitude and phase setting function based on event timing. We upgraded the EVG/EVR event timing system and LLRF (Low-Level Radiofrequency) system. Two special event codes and a repetition rate division of 10 Hz are added to the event timing system, and we can set the microwave amplitude and phase by judging the event code in LLRF. Abstract

The spin Hall magnetoresistance (SMR) of epitaxial BiFeO$_3$ thin films is investigated. SMR consistent with ferromagnetic interfacial states for BiFeO$_3$ films fabricated on (001) SrTiO$_3$ (R' BFO) and LaAlO$_3$ (T' BFO) substrates is found, albeit with different temperature dependencies. For T' BFO, the SMR is enhanced at room temperature, and decays with reduced temperatures. By contrast, R' BFO shows a monotonic decrease in SMR response with increasing temperature, mirroring the trend of a weak ferromagnet. Density functional theory shows that this difference originates from the coupling of the applied magnetic field to oxygen octahedral rotation (R') and spin (T') degrees of freedom., Comment: 14 pages incl. 3 figures

Currently, the application of polydopamine biomaterials in orthopedic disease prevention and treatment is in its early stages, despite some initial achievements. This article aims to review these applications to encourage further development of polydopamine for orthopedic therapeutic needs. We detail the properties of polydopamine and its biomaterial types, highlighting its superior performance in functional modification on nanoparticles and materials. Here, we discuss the importance of serum secretoneurin in assessing severity and predicting delayed cerebral ischemia (DCI) and functional outcomes following aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH).Methods: A prospective cohort study of 167 patients with aSAH and 100 controls was performed to determine serum secretoneurin levels. Severity was reflected by the Hunt-Hess and modified Fisher scores. Prognostic parameters included DCI and poor 6-month prognosis (extended Glasgow outcome scale scores of 1– 4). Univariate analysis followed by multivariate analysis was performed to determine the correlation between severity and prognosis.Results: Compared to controls, patients exhibited a marked elevation in serum secretoneurin levels. Serum secretoneurin levels, which were independently correlated with Hunt-Hess scores and modified Fisher scores, independently predicted DCI and bad 6-month prognosis. Serum secretoneurin levels, which were linearly related to the risk of DCI and poor prognosis under a restricted cubic spline, effectively distinguished the risks under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. Subgroup analysis for prognosis or DCI prediction revealed no substantial interactions between serum secretoneurin levels and other variables, such as age, sex, hypertension, diabetes, alcohol consumption, and cigarette consumption. In addition, the prognosis model, in which serum secretoneurin, Hunt-Hess scale, and modified Fisher scale were merged, was graphically represented by a nomogram and performed well under the calibration, decision, and ROC curves.Conclusion: Serum secretoneurin levels significantly increased after aSAH, which was intimately correlated with disease severity and independently associated with DCI and worse outcomes, indicating that serum secretoneurin may be a potential prognostic biomarker of aSAH.Keywords: aneurysm, subarachnoid hemorrhage, secretoneurin, delayed cerebral ischemia, prognosis, outcome, severity

However, it has not been defined whether TRIM59 plays a role in ischemic stroke in mice.Methods: This study determined the influence of Trim59 deficiency on experimental stroke outcomes and the cerebral proteomic profile using myeloid cell Trim59 conditional knockout (Trim59-cKO) mice and a label-free quantitative proteomic profiling technique. The possible mechanisms by which TRIM59 affected stroke onset were elucidated by in vivo and in vitro experiments.Results: Immunofluorescence staining results showed that TRIM59 expression was up-regulated after cerebral ischemia and co-localized with macrophages. Myeloid cell Trim59 deficiency exacerbated ischemic injury on day 3 after experimental stroke. In proteomic analysis, 23 differentially expressed proteins were identified in ischemic brain of Trim59-cKO mice as compared to Trim59flox/flox mice. Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway analysis revealed that the differentially expressed proteins were enriched in complement and coagulation cascades. Protein–protein interaction analysis suggested the central role of clusterin in the interaction network. ELISA and Western blot assays confirmed the reduced levels of clusterin protein in the ischemic brains of Trim59-cKO mice. Further experimental results showed that clusterin was expressed in neurons. Conditional co-culture experiments of primary neurons and bone marrow-derived macrophages demonstrated that LPS stimulated macrophages to secrete complement C3. In addition, TRIM59 may affect the changes in clusterin expression in an indirect manner by influencing the secretion of complement C3 in macrophages. Abstract

We report the first search result for the flux of astrophysical electron antineutrinos for energies O(10) MeV in the gadolinium-loaded Super-Kamiokande (SK) detector. In June 2020, gadolinium was introduced to the ultra-pure water of the SK detector in order to detect neutrons more efficiently. In this new experimental phase, SK-Gd, we can search for electron antineutrinos via inverse beta decay with efficient background rejection and higher signal efficiency thanks to the high efficiency of the neutron tagging technique. In this paper, we report the result for the initial stage of SK-Gd with a $22.5\times552$ $\rm kton\cdot day$ exposure at 0.01% Gd mass concentration. No significant excess over the expected background in the observed events is found for the neutrino energies below 31.3 MeV. Thus, the flux upper limits are placed at the 90% confidence level. The limits and sensitivities are already comparable with the previous SK result with pure-water ($22.5 \times 2970 \rm kton\cdot day$) owing to the enhanced neutron tagging.

Abstract

Permanent magnets draw their properties from a complex interplay, across multiple length scales, of the composition and distribution of their constituting phases, that act as building blocks, each with their associated intrinsic properties. Gaining a fundamental understanding of these interactions is hence key to decipher the origins of their magnetic performance and facilitate the engineering of better-performing magnets, through unlocking the design of the "perfect defects" for ultimate pinning of magnetic domains. Here, we deployed advanced multiscale microscopy and microanalysis on a bulk Sm2(CoFeCuZr)17 pinning-type high-performance magnet with outstanding thermal and chemical stability. Making use of regions with different chemical compositions, we showcase how both a change in the composition and distribution of copper, along with the atomic arrangements enforce the pinning of magnetic domains, as imaged by nanoscale magnetic induction mapping. Micromagnetic simulations bridge the scales to provide an understanding of how these peculiarities of micro- and nanostructure change the hard magnetic behaviour of Sm2(CoFeCuZr)17 magnets. Unveiling the origins of the reduced coercivity allows us to propose an atomic-scale defect and chemistry manipulation strategy to define ways toward future hard magnets.

Abstract

We report an infrared ellipsometry study of the charge carrier dynamics in polycrystalline Kxp-terphenyl samples with nominal $x=3$, for which signatures of high-temperature superconductivity were previously reported. The infrared spectra are dominated by two Lorentzian bands with maxima around 4 000 cm$^{-1}$ and 12 000 cm$^{-1}$ which, from a comparison with calculations based on a H\"uckel model are assigned to intra-molecular excitations of $\pi$ electrons of the anionic p-terphenyl molecules. The inter-molecular electronic excitations are much weaker and give rise to a Drude peak and a similarly weak Lorentzian band around 220 cm$^{-1}$. A dc resistivity of about 0.3 $\Omega$ cm at 300 K is deduced from the IR data, comparable to values measured by electrical resistivity on a twin sample. The analysis of the temperature dependence of the low-frequency response reveals a gradual decrease of the plasma frequency and the scattering rate of the Drude peak below 300 K that gets anomalously enhanced below 90 K. The corresponding missing spectral weight of the Drude peak appears blue-shifted towards the Lorentz-band at 220 cm$^{-1}$. This characteristic blue-shift signifies an enhanced localization of the charge carriers at low temperatures and contrasts the behavior expected for a bulk superconducting state for which the missing spectral weight would be redshifted to a delta-function at zero frequency that accounts for the loss-free response of the superconducting condensate. Our data might still be compatible with a filamentary superconducting state with a volume fraction well below the percolation limit for which the spatial confinement of the condensate can result in a plasmonic resonance at finite frequency., Comment: 12 pages, 7 figures

Notably, children exhibit distinct resistance mechanisms compared to adults, necessitating a differential approach to antibiotic selection. A thorough analysis of CRKP’s epidemiology and drug resistance mechanisms is essential for establishing a robust foundation for clinical anti-infection strategies and precise prevention and control measures.Methods: This study involved the collection of 31 non-repetitive strains from pediatric and adult patients at a tertiary hospital in China, spanning from July 2016 to July 2022, testing for resistance genes, antimicrobial susceptibility, and homology analysis.Results: Infants (0– 1 year) were the largest pediatric CRKP group, with 61.3% of cases. The neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and pediatrics were the main departments affected. Adults with CRKP had a mean age of 67 years, with the highest prevalence in neurology and emergency ICU. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing revealed that adult CRKP strains exhibited higher resistance to amikacin, ciprofloxacin, cotrimoxazole, and aztreonam compared to pediatric strains. Conversely, pediatric strains showed a higher rate of resistance to ceftazidime/avibactam. The predominant resistance genes identified were blaNDM-5 in children (58.1%) and blaKPC-2 in adults (87.1%), with over 93% of both groups testing positive for extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL) genes. Multilocus Sequence Typing (MLST) indicated ST2735 and ST11 as the predominant types in children and adults, respectively. Pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) identified clonal transmission patterns of ST11 blaKPC-2 and ST15 blaOXA-232 across both age groups. Notably, this study reports the first instance of ST1114-type CRKP co-producing blaNDM-5 and blaOXA-181 in the NICU.Conclusion: This study reveals distinct resistance mechanisms and epidemiology in CRKP from children and adults. Thus, the aim of the study was to evaluate the molecular epidemiological characteristics of carbapenem resistant Aeromonas in HWW.Methods: A total of 33 carbapenem resistant Aeromonas were isolated from HWW. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) were used to assess the antimicrobial resistance profiles. Molecular typing was performed using enterobacterial repetitive intergenic consensus PCR (ERIC-PCR) and multilocus sequence typing (MLST). The horizontal transmission mode of blaKPC was explored through conjugation and transformation experiments. The stability of blaKPC-IncP-6 plasmids was assessed through plasmid stability and in vitro competition test. The PCR mapping method was used to investigate the structural diversity of blaKPC.Results: The detection rates of blaKPC and cphA in Aeromonas were 97.0% and 39.4% respectively. Aeromonas caviae were grouped into 13 clusters by ERIC-PCR and 12 STs by MLST. Aeromonas veronii were grouped into 11 clusters by ERIC-PCR and 4 STs by MLST. 56.3% blaKPC were located on mobilizable IncP-6 plasmids. blaKPC-IncP-6 plasmid showed high stability and low cost fitness.Conclusion: Carbapenem resistant Aeromonas from HWW mainly carried blaKPC, which exhibited great structural diversity. However, the mechanism and function of circ_0007386 in HCC are still unknown.Methods: Circ_0007386 expression level in HCC tissues, and HCC cell lines was further analyzed by qRT-PCR. Agarose gel electrophoresis and Sanger sequencing were used to figure out the structure of circ_0007386. The involvement of circ_0007386 in HCC development was evaluated by experimental investigations conducted in both laboratory settings (in vitro) and living organisms (in vivo). RNA immunoprecipitation, Western blotting, luciferase reporter assay and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) were applied for finding out the interaction among circ_0007386, miR-507 and CCNT2. To assess the connection between circ_0007386 and lenvatinib resistance, lenvatinib-resistant HCC cell lines were employed.Results: The expression of circ_0007386 was found to increase in HCC tissues, and it was observed to be associated with a worse prognosis. Overexpression of circ_0007386 stimulated HCC cells proliferation, invasion, migration and the epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT) while silencing of circ_0007386 resulted in the opposite effect. Mechanistic investigations revealed that circ_0007386 acted as a competing endogenous RNA of miR-507 to prevent CCNT2 downregulation. Downregulating miR-507 or overexpressing CCNT2 could reverse phenotypic alterations that originated from inhibiting of circ_0007386. Importantly, circ_0007386 determines the resistance of hepatoma cells to lenvatinib treatment.Conclusion: Circ_0007386 advanced HCC progression and lenvatinib resistance through the miR-507/ CCNT2 axis. This study was done with the intent to determine the role of serum STC1 in severity assessment and prognosis prediction of severe traumatic brain injury (sTBI).Methods: In this prospective longitudinal cohort study of 104 sTBI patients and 104 healthy individuals (controls), serum STC1 levels were quantified. Severity indicators were Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) and Rotterdam computed tomography classification. Follow-up time was 180 days and extended Glasgow outcome scale (GOSE) score 1– 4 was deemed as poor prognosis. Multivariate analyses were applied to assess severity correlations and prognosis associations. Discriminative efficiencies were estimated in terms of area under receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC).Results: Patients exhibited significantly higher serum STC1 levels than controls. Serum STC1 levels were substantially elevated in order of GCS scores from 8 to 3, Rotterdam scores from 3 to 6 and 180-day GOSE scores from 8 to 1. Also, serum STC1 levels were independently correlated with GCS scores, Rotterdam scores and 180-day GOSE scores. Serum STC1 levels were independently associated with 180-day death, overall survival and poor prognosis, as well as were efficiently predictive of death and poor prognosis. Prediction model containing GCS scores, Rotterdam scores and serum STC1 levels, as opposed to any of them, showed higher discriminative ability for the risks of death and poor prognosis. Alternatively, serum STC1 levels were linearly correlated with risk of death, overall survival and poor prognosis under restricted cubic spline. Subgroup analysis showed that serum STC1 levels non-statistically significantly interacted with age, gender, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, etc.Conclusion: A significant elevation of serum STC1 levels is highly related to severity and clinical outcome, suggesting that serum STC1 may be a potential prognostic biomarker of sTBI.Keywords: traumatic brain injury, stanniocalcin-1, severity, outcome, biomarkers

The primary goal was to prolong drug circulation time, increase drug accumulation in the lungs, and minimize drug-related side effects.Methods: Simvastatin (SIM) was used as the model drug in this study. Employing a red blood cell surface-loaded nanoparticle drug delivery technique, pH-responsive cationic nanoparticles loaded with SIM were non-covalently adsorbed onto the surface of red blood cells (RBC), creating a novel drug delivery system (RBC@SIM-PEI-PPNPs).Results: The RBC@SIM-PEI-PPNPs delivery system effectively extended the drug’s circulation time, providing an extended therapeutic window. Additionally, this method substantially improved the targeted accumulation of SIM in lung tissues, thereby enhancing the drug’s efficacy in treating ARDS and impeding its progression to ARDS. Crucially, the system showed a reduced risk of adverse drug reactions.Conclusion: RBC@SIM-PEI-PPNPs demonstrates promise in ARDS and ARDS treatment. This innovative approach successfully overcomes the limitations associated with SIM’s poor solubility and low bioavailability, resulting in improved therapeutic outcomes and fewer drug-related side effects. However, current researches have only focused on the delivering to healthy hair follicles, which are intrinsically different from pathologically clogged hair follicles in acne vulgaris.Patients and Methods: Azelaic acid (AZA) micro/nanocrystals with different particle sizes were prepared by wet media milling or high-pressure homogenization. An experiment on AZA micro/nanocrystals delivering to healthy hair follicles was carried out, with and without the use of physical enhancement techniques. More importantly, it innovatively designed an experiment, which could reveal the ability of AZA micro/nanocrystals to penetrate the constructed clogged hair follicles. The anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effects of AZA micro/nanocrystals were evaluated in vitro using a RAW264.7 cell model stimulated by lipopolysaccharide and a Cutibacterium acnes model. Finally, both the anti-acne effects and skin safety of AZA micro/nanocrystals and commercial products were compared in vivo.Results: In comparison to commercial products, 200 nm and 500 nm AZA micro/nanocrystals exhibited an increased capacity to target hair follicles. In the combination group of AZA micro/nanocrystals and ultrasound, the ability to penetrate hair follicles was further remarkably enhanced (ER value up to 9.6). However, toward the clogged hair follicles, AZA micro/nanocrystals cannot easily penetrate into by themselves. Only with the help of 1% salicylic acid, AZA micro/nanocrystals had a great potential to penetrate clogged hair follicle. It was also shown that AZA micro/nanocrystals had anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effects by inhibiting pro-inflammatory factors and Cutibacterium acnes. Thus, the objective of this study was to investigate the expression of Myeloid-related proteins 8 and 14 (Mrp 8/14) and its role in ARDS induced by sepsis.Methods: A total of 168 septic patients were enrolled in the observational study. The baseline information and clinical outcomes were obtained retrospectively. Serum Mrp 8/14 level was determined by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The patients were categorized into sepsis and ARDS group based on whether they developed ARDS during the intensive care unit (ICU) hospitalization.Results: There was significant difference in the level of Mrp 8/14 between the sepsis group and ARDS groups (P < 0.05). Mrp 8/14 correlated positively with procalcitonin (PCT), interleukin-6 (IL-6), acute physiology and chronic health evaluation II (APACHE II) score, sequential organ failure assessment (SOFA) score on day 1, mechanical ventilation time, length of ICU stay and hospitalization expenses in ICU (all P < 0.05). Logistic regression analysis showed Mrp 8/14 was the independent factor for forecasting the occurrence of sepsis- induced ARDS (P < 0.05). The areas under receiver operating characteristic curves for Mrp 8/14 were higher than that of PCT, APACHE II score and SOFA score on day 1 (P < 0.05).Conclusion: The serum Mrp 8/14 level at admission may be a potential marker for predicting the occurrence of ARDS induced by sepsis. Traditional agents used for RA therapy remain unsatisfactory because of their low efficiency and obvious adverse effects. Therefore, we here established RA microenvironment-responsive targeted micelles that can respond to the increase in reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels in the joint and improve macrophage-specific targeting of loaded drugs.Methods: We here prepared ROS-responsive folate-modified curcumin micelles (TK-FA-Cur-Ms) in which thioketal (TK) was used as a ROS-responsive linker for modifying polyethylene glycol 5000 (PEG5000) on the micellar surface. When micelles were in the ROS-overexpressing inflammatory microenvironment, the PEG5000 hydration layer was shed, and the targeting ligand FA was exposed, thereby enhancing cellular uptake by macrophages through active targeting. The targeting, ROS sensitivity and anti-inflammatory properties of the micelles were assessed in vitro. Collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) rats model was utilized to investigate the targeting, expression of serum inflammatory factors and histology change of the articular cartilage by micelles in vivo.Results: TK-FA-Cur-Ms had a particle size of 90.07 ± 3.44 nm, which decreased to 78.87 ± 2.41 nm after incubation with H2O2. The micelles exhibited in vitro targeting of RAW264.7 cells and significantly inhibited inflammatory cytokine levels. Pharmacodynamic studies have revealed that TK-FA-Cur-Ms prolonged the drug circulation and exhibited augmented cartilage-protective and anti-inflammatory effects in vivo.Conclusion: The unique ROS-responsive targeted micelles with targeting, ROS sensitivity and anti-inflammatory properties were successfully prepared and may offer an effective therapeutic strategy against RA.Keywords: rheumatoid arthritis, ROS-responsive, curcumin, folate, micelles

The purpose of our retrospective research was to investigate the predictive factors of the LN-prRLN in cN0 PTC patients.Methods and Materials: Altogether 251 consecutive cN0 PTC participants accepted unilateral or bilateral thyroidectomy accompanied with LN-prRLN dissection between June 2020 and May 2023 were included in the research. Then, univariate and multivariate logical regression analysis were conducted to analyze the relationship between the LN-prRLN and these predictive factors, and a predictive model was also developed. Surgical complications of LN-prRLN dissection were also presented.Results: The rate of LN-prRLN was 17.9% (45/251) in cN0 PTC patients after the analysis of postoperative histology. The age < 55 years, multifocality, microcalcification, and BRAFV600E mutation were identified to be predictive factors of LN-prRLN in cN0 PTC patients. The risk score for LN-prRLN was calculated: risk score = 1.192 × (if age < 55 years) + 0.808 × (if multifocality) + 1.196 × (if microcalcification in nodule) + 0.918 × (if BRAFV600E mutation in nodule). The rates of the transient hypoparathyroidism and hoarseness were 1.2% (3/251) and 2.0% (5/251), respectively.Conclusion: The age < 55 years, multifocality, microcalcification, and BRAFV600E mutation are independent predictors of the LN-prRLN in cN0 PTC patients. An effective predictive model was established for predicting the LN-prRLN in cN0 PTC patients, with the aim to better guide the surgical treatment of PTC. A thorough inspection of the lateral compartment is recommended in PTC patients with risk factors. Abstract

Cosmic-ray muons that enter the Super-Kamiokande detector cause hadronic showers due to spallation in water, producing neutrons and radioactive isotopes. Those are a major background source for studies of MeV-scale neutrinos and searches for rare events. Since 2020, gadolinium was introduced in the ultra-pure water in the Super-Kamiokande detector to improve the detection efficiency of neutrons. In this study, the cosmogenic neutron yield was measured using data acquired during the period after the gadolinium loading. The yield was found to be $(2.76 \pm 0.02\,\mathrm{(stat.) \pm 0.19\,\mathrm{(syst.)}}) \times 10^{-4}\,\mu^{-1} \mathrm{g^{-1} cm^{2}}$ at 259 GeV of average muon energy at the Super-Kamiokande detector., Comment: 10 pages, 10 figures, 3 tables

Abstract

Various WIMP dark matter searches using the full data set of XMASS-I, a single-phase liquid xenon detector, are reported in this paper. Stable XMASS-I data taking accumulated a total live time of 1590.9 days between November 20, 2013 and February 1, 2019 with an analysis threshold of ${\rm 1.0\,keV_{ee}}$. In the latter half of data taking a lower analysis threshold of ${\rm 0.5\,keV_{ee}}$ was also available through a new low threshold trigger. Searching for a WIMP signal in the detector's 97~kg fiducial volume yielded a limit on the WIMP-nucleon scattering cross section of ${\rm 1.4\times 10^{-44}\, cm^{2}}$ for a ${\rm 60\,GeV/c^{2}}$ WIMP at the 90$\%$ confidence level. We also searched for WIMP induced annual modulation signatures in the detector's whole target volume, containing 832~kg of liquid xenon. For nuclear recoils of a ${\rm 8\,GeV/c^{2}}$ WIMP this analysis yielded a 90\% CL cross section limit of ${\rm 2.3\times 10^{-42}\, cm^{2}}$. At a WIMP mass of ${\rm 0.5\, GeV/c^{2}}$ the Migdal effect and Bremsstrahlung signatures were evaluated and lead to 90\% CL cross section limits of ${\rm 1.4\times 10^{-35}\, cm^{2}}$ and ${\rm 1.1\times 10^{-33}\, cm^{2}}$ respectively.

Abstract

Neutrinos associated with solar flares (solar-flare neutrinos) provide information on particle acceleration mechanisms during the impulsive phase of solar flares. We searched using the Super-Kamiokande detector for neutrinos from solar flares that occurred during solar cycles $23$ and $24$, including the largest solar flare (X28.0) on November 4th, 2003. In order to minimize the background rate we searched for neutrino interactions within narrow time windows coincident with $\gamma$-rays and soft X-rays recorded by satellites. In addition, we performed the first attempt to search for solar-flare neutrinos from solar flares on the invisible side of the Sun by using the emission time of coronal mass ejections (CMEs). By selecting twenty powerful solar flares above X5.0 on the visible side and eight CMEs whose emission speed exceeds $2000$ $\mathrm{km \, s^{-1}}$ on the invisible side from 1996 to 2018, we found two (six) neutrino events coincident with solar flares occurring on the visible (invisible) side of the Sun, with a typical background rate of $0.10$ ($0.62$) events per flare in the MeV-GeV energy range. No significant solar-flare neutrino signal above the estimated background rate was observed. As a result we set the following upper limit on neutrino fluence at the Earth $\mathit{\Phi}<1.1\times10^{6}$ $\mathrm{cm^{-2}}$ at the $90\%$ confidence level for the largest solar flare. The resulting fluence limits allow us to constrain some of the theoretical models for solar-flare neutrino emission., Comment: 36 pages, 18 figures, 9 tables (Figure 12 was replaced because it was incorrect in version 1.)

Abstract

We report a search for cosmic-ray boosted dark matter with protons using the 0.37 megaton$\times$years data collected at Super-Kamiokande experiment during the 1996-2018 period (SKI-IV phase). We searched for an excess of proton recoils above the atmospheric neutrino background from the vicinity of the Galactic Center. No such excess is observed, and limits are calculated for two reference models of dark matter with either a constant interaction cross-section or through a scalar mediator. This is the first experimental search for boosted dark matter with hadrons using directional information. The results present the most stringent limits on cosmic-ray boosted dark matter and exclude the dark matter-nucleon elastic scattering cross-section between $10^{-33}\text{ cm}^{2}$ and $10^{-27}\text{ cm}^{2}$ for dark matter mass from 10 MeV/$c^2$ to 1 GeV/$c^2$., Comment: With 1-page appendix. Abstract

We present the development of neutron-tagging techniques in Super-Kamiokande IV using a neural network analysis. The detection efficiency of neutron capture on hydrogen is estimated to be 26%, with a mis-tag rate of 0.016 per neutrino event. The uncertainty of the tagging efficiency is estimated to be 9.0%. Measurement of the tagging efficiency with data from an Americium-Beryllium calibration agrees with this value within 10%. The tagging procedure was performed on 3,244.4 days of SK-IV atmospheric neutrino data, identifying 18,091 neutrons in 26,473 neutrino events. The fitted neutron capture lifetime was measured as 218 \pm 9 \mu s.

Abstract

We searched for proton decay via $p\to\mu^+K^0$ in 0.37\,Mton$\cdot$years of data collected between 1996 and 2018 from the Super-Kamiokande water Cherenkov experiment. The selection criteria were defined separately for $K^0_S$ and $K^0_L$ channels. No significant event excess has been observed. As a result of this analysis, which extends the previous search by an additional 0.2\,Mton$\cdot$years of exposure and uses an improved event reconstruction, we set a lower limit of $3.6\times10^{33}$ years on the proton lifetime., Comment: 13 pages, 11 figures

The excessive aggregation of neutrophils is correlated with an unfavorable prognosis in acute myocardial infarction (AMI) patients. Exosomes derived from mesenchymal stromal cells (MSC-Exo) have certain immunomodulatory potential and might be a therapeutic application. Therefore, we investigated the protective role of MSC-Exo in modulating neutrophil infiltration and formation of neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) following myocardial I/R injury.Methods: Exosomes were isolated from the supernatant of MSCs using a gradient centrifugation method. We used flow cytometry, histochemistry, and immunofluorescence to detect the changes of neutrophils post-intravenous MSC-Exo injection. Additionally, cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) and thioflavin S experiments were applied to detect microvascular obstruction (MVO). The NLR family pyrin domain containing 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome was examined for mechanism exploration. Primary neutrophils were extracted for in vitro experiment. Antibody of Ly6G was given to depleting the neutrophils in mice for verification the effect of MSC-Exo. Finally, we analyzed the MiRNA sequence of MSC-Exo and verified it in vitro.Results: MSC-Exo administration reduced neutrophil infiltration and NETs formation after myocardial I/R. MSC-Exo treatment also could attenuate the activation of NLRP3 inflammasome both in vivo and in vitro. At the same time, the infarction size and MVO following I/R injury were reduced by MSC-Exo. Moreover, systemic depletion of neutrophils partly negated the therapeutic effects of MSC-Exo. Up-regulation of miR-199 in neutrophils has been shown to decrease the expression of NETs formation after stimulation.Discussion: Our results demonstrated that MSC-Exo mitigated myocardial I/R injury in mice by modulating neutrophil infiltration and NETs formation. This study provides novel insights into the potential therapeutic application of MSC-Exo for myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury. However, epidemiological data on the prevalence rate of current PLEs among college students and its clinical correlates are scarce and limited. To address this study gap, this study aimed to investigate the prevalence and correlates of current PLEs among Chinese college students.Methods: A cross-sectional study was designed with a sample of 18,578 college students in China. Each participant completed a survey on social-demographic characteristics variables, PLEs, sleep disturbance, depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation. Logistic regression analyses were conducted to explore the influential factors for PLEs among all participants and suicidal ideation among those with PLEs.Results: Among Chinese college students, 40.3% of the participants reported having at least one PLE in the past month, while 7.5% had frequent PLEs. Males, age, residence location in town, left-behind experiences, poor family economic status, chronic physical illness, family history of mental disorder, BMI ≥ 28 [obesity], sleep disturbance, depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation were independent correlates for frequent PLEs. Furthermore, the prevalence of suicidal ideation among participants with frequent PLEs was 32.1%. Lower grades, sleep disturbance, depression, and anxiety were independent predictors of suicidal ideation among college students who experience PLEs frequently.Conclusion: Current PLEs are widespread among Chinese college students. Suicidal ideation is largely prevalent among individuals who suffer frequent PLEs, suggesting that special measures and attention should be provided to these students based on relevant factors to prevent their suicidal ideation and behavior.Keywords: psychotic-like experiences, suicidal ideation, correlates, college students

Researchers mainly pay attention to the VCAIs knowledge of doctors and nurses but rarely pay attention to the nursing students in the hospital internship stage.Purpose: To investigate the current situation of knowledge of intern-nursing students in VCAIs, and analyze its influencing factors.Patients and Methods: 843 intern-nursing students were selected from 10 hospitals in five regions of eastern, western, southern, northern, and central China from June 26 to July 31, 2023, using a two-stage random sampling method. A self-designed questionnaire with good reliability and validity was used to investigate their knowledge of VCAIs, and t-test, multiple linear regression analysis, and Welch t-test were used to analyze the collected data by using SPSS Statistics 26.0 (IBM Corp., Armonk, NY).Results: Intern nursing students’ mean score of VCAIs knowledge was 48.66 (SD=15.77), with a score below 60 (unqualified) accounting for 75.4%, a score of 60– 79 (qualified) accounting for 19.7%, a score of 80– 89 (good) accounting for 3.6%, and a score of above 90 accounting for 1.3%. Students who attended VCAIs training three or more times had higher scores than those who did not attend training (B: 4.706, p=0.001), knowledge scores of students with a bachelor’s degree or above were higher than those with junior college degree or below (B: 8.479, p< 0.001), students who interned in tertiary hospitals had higher scores than those practicing in secondary hospitals (B:12.381, p< 0.001) and scores of students in hospital training were significantly higher than study independently (B:4.116, p=0.007).Conclusion: Intern-nursing students have a relatively low level of knowledge about VCAIs. Its prognostic value has been extensively confirmed in various types of tumors. Our study aims to investigate the clinical implications of the NPS in the postoperative patients with cholangiocarcinoma (CCA).Patients and Methods: Data on clinicopathological characteristics were collected from CCA patients who underwent radical surgery between 2014 and 2019 at Harbin Medical University Cancer Hospital. NPS was calculated using relevant indicators to categorize the patients, and association of NPS with clinicopathological characteristics and survival outcomes were analyzed. To assess differences in survival rates between different groups, we utilized the Kaplan-Meier method. Independent prognostic risk factors were identified by Cox regression analysis. A CONomogram was created, and its accuracy in survival prediction was evaluated using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves. Independent verification was conducted in the validation group.Results: For this study, a cohort of 232 patients was enlisted and subsequently divided into training group (N=162) and validation group (N=70). An evident correlation was detected between NPS and preoperative malnutrition. Patients with higher NPS exhibited a worse overall survival (OS), with 5-year OS rates of 79.1%, 33.1%, and 10.6%. Multivariate analysis revealed that NPS was an independent risk factor for OS in resected CCA patients (P< 0.001). The NPS-based Nomogram was developed to accurately assess the risk of patients.Conclusion: The NPS was identified as a significant risk factor that impacts the prognosis of patients with resected CCA. We outlined the causes of non-compliance and developed and implemented improvement plans. We compared the results obtained before and after the implementation of the QCC to assess the enhancement in patient compliance concerning wearing masks during external examinations, particularly among individuals diagnosed with pulmonary tuberculosis.Results: The compliance rate for mask-wearing during external examinations rose from an initial 32.61% (45/138) prior to the intervention to 83.71% (149/178) following the intervention.
