11. Effect of Stress Relaxation and Annealing Treatment on the Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Steel Wire.

Abstract

Bridge cables composed of 1960 MPa steel wires can be damaged during vehicle fires. Therefore, it is necessary to study the high-temperature mechanical properties of steel wires under load-bearing conditions. In this paper, the mechanical properties and microstructure of 1960 MPa steel wire after stress relaxation and high-temperature annealing treatment at different temperatures are investigated. The results show that the stress relaxation limit is 422 MPa at 325 °C. The tensile strength of the steel wire after stress relaxation is 1975 MPa, which decreases by 5.73% compared with the initial state. When the annealing temperature is 300 °C, the tensile strength of the steel wire is 2044 MPa, accounting for 98.7% of the strength of the steel wire at room temperature. The tensile strength decreases by 9% when the annealing temperature is 400 °C, the steel wire strength decreases at a significantly higher rate. In addition, the spacing of the pearlitic sheet layers increases from 55 nm to 75 nm at the heat treatment temperature of 300 °C~350 °C. A passive fire protection temperature of 275 °C is recommended for cable wires if safer protection standards are considered. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

23. Improved serologic responses to DTaP over Tdap vaccination in adult hematopoietic cell transplant recipients.

Abstract

Background: Hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) recipients have reduced antibody titers to tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis. Tdap is approved for revaccinating adult HCT recipients in the United States, whereas DTaP is not approved in this population. To our knowledge, no studies to date have compared responses to DTaP versus Tdap in adult HCT patients. We conducted a retrospective study comparing responses to DTaP versus Tdap vaccines in otherwise similar adult HCT patients in order to determine if one of these vaccines elicits superior antibody responses. Methods: We evaluated 43 allogeneic and autologous transplant recipients as a combined cohort and as separate subsets for vaccine specific antibody titers and proportion of strong vaccine responders. Subset analysis focused on the autologous transplant recipients. Results: Higher median antibody titers were found to all vaccine components among DTaP recipients (diphtheria p =.021, pertussis p =.020, tetanus p =.007). DTaP recipients also had more strong responders to diphtheria and pertussis (diphtheria p =.002, pertussis p =.006). Among the autologous HCT recipient subset, there were more strong responders to diphtheria (p =.036). Conclusions: Our data shows that post‐HCT vaccination with DTaP leads to higher antibody titers and more strong responders, which suggests that DTaP is more effective than Tdap in HCT recipients. 40. Photo‐Responsive Nanozyme Disrupts Bacterial Electron Transport Chain for Enhanced Anti‐Biofilm Therapy.

Abstract

The bacterial electron transport chain (ETC) plays a crucial role in biofilm energy metabolism and redox balance, making it a potential target for anti‐biofilm treatment. Herein, mesoporous nanocarbon spheres loaded with Pt nanoparticles (CS‐Pt) are developed to disrupt the bacterial ETC for photo‐enhanced anti‐biofilm. Under near‐infrared laser irradiation, CS‐Pt‐treated biofilms show a positive shift of 0.6 eV in Pt 4f binding energy and a 1.76‐fold increase in anodic current density, demonstrating that the electron loss from CS‐Pt results in an enhanced electron transfer from CS‐Pt to biofilm. Adding the electron quencher NH4Cl to the CS‐Pt‐containing biofilm sample results in reduced biofilm clearance, highlighting the critical role of enhanced electron transfer in effective biofilm eradication. Due to the multifunction of CS‐Pt in inducing hyperthermia, reactive oxgen species generation, and interrupting bacterial ETC, the critical component of ETC, extracellular DNA, in methicillin‐resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) biofilm is reduced by 89.8%, ultimately leading to a biofilm clearance of 90.3%. Additionally, CS‐Pt achieve 99.5% biofilm eradication and expedites wound healing with a rate of 78.1% in a MRSA‐infected wound model. We present an attractive approach for disintegrating biofilm through the synergistic effect of disrupting ETC, enzyme‐like activity, and phototherapy, offering an innovative perspective on combating biofilm‐associated infections. 44. Photo‐responsive nanozymes: Mechanism, activity regulation, and biomedical applications.

Abstract

Nanozyme is defined as a nanomaterial‐based artificial enzyme. It has rapidly attracted interest and been regarded as a promising alternative to natural enzymes due to its low cost, high stability, and high activity. Many researchers have recently paid attention to the optical properties of nanozymes and have found a variety of nanozymes with excellent photoactivity, called photo‐responsive nanozymes. In this minireview, we briefly introduce the mechanisms of photo‐responsive nanozymes, especially for the relationship between the enzyme‐like activity and photoactivity. Some activity regulation strategies for improving the performance of photo‐responsive nanozymes are also summarized. Moreover, the synergy of enzyme‐like activity and photoactivity in biomedical applications will also be discussed, including cancer therapy, antibacteria, and biological detection. 50. Ultrasmall Fe-doped carbon dots nanozymes for photoenhanced antibacterial therapy and wound healing

Abstract

Pathogenic bacteria pose a devastating threat to public health. However, because of the growing bacterial antibiotic resistance, there is an urgent need to develop alternative antibacterial strategies to the established antibiotics. Herein, iron-doped carbon dots (Fe-CDs, ∼3 nm) nanozymes with excellent photothermal conversion and photoenhanced enzyme-like properties are developed through a facile one-pot pyrolysis approach for synergistic efficient antibacterial therapy and wound healing. In particular, Fe doping endows CDs with photoenhanced peroxidase (POD)-like activity, which lead to the generation of heat and reactive oxygen species (ROS) for Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria killing. This study demonstrates Fe-CDs have significant wound healing efficiency of Fe-CDs by preventing infection, promoting fibroblast proliferation, angiogenesis, and collagen deposition. Furthermore, the ultrasmall size of Fe-CDs possesses good biocompatibility favoring clinical translation. We believe that the nanozyme-mediated therapeutic platform presented here is expected to show promising applications in antibacterial.
