Abstract

Perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have witnessed a meteoric rise in device performance. However, maintaining photostability, particularly under thermal stress, remains a challenge due to defect formation in the perovskite layer. This study introduces europium (III) trifluoromethanesulfonate [Eu(OTF)3] as a multifunctional additive in two‐step processed perovskite films, significantly improving the performance and high‐temperature photostability of n‐i‐p PSCs. Density function theory (DFT) calculations reveal that the OTF− anion strongly coordinates with Pb2+, effectively inhibiting iodine vacancy defect formation. The addition of Eu(OTF)3 promotes perovskite grain growth to ≈2 µm and enhances film crystallinity. PSCs with a structure of ITO/SnO2/perovskite/PDCBT/NiOx/Au achieve a champion power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 23.8%. Under 85 ± 5 °C and 1 sun illumination at an open circuit in ambient air, the PSCs with Eu(OTF)3 retain 82% of their initial PCE after aging for 1500 h. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Formamidinium lead iodide (FAPbI3) is a promising candidate as the solar cell absorption layer with a suitable band gap of 1.45 eV and excellent optoelectronic properties. In this work, we report a new vacuum flash evaporation method to deposit phase-pure black α-FAPbI3 films in situ on low-temperature substrates without post-annealing, and the area of deposited films can be up to 36 cm2 (6 cm × 6 cm). Besides, the unique relationship between substrate temperature and phases in films is demonstrated for the further development of the method. With the α-FAPbI3 films as the active layer, perovskite solar cells with power conversion efficiency of 12.55% are fabricated. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The performance of organic photovoltaics (OPVs) has rapidly increased. Yet, achieving long-term stability in the nano-morphology and thereby sustaining device performance remains challenging. Herein, we show that incorporating in-situ-forming cross-linked thermoset (CLT) matrices into the bulk heterojunction blends is a simple, general, and efficient strategy for high-performing and resilient OPVs. Our simulations and experimental data prove that these high-modulus CLT matrices featuring hydrogen-bonding interactions can freeze the nano-morphology, resulting in long-term thermal and photostable OPV devices. We demonstrate that this approach works efficiently with eight different blends and show that OPV devices can withstand 85°C for 1,000 h without losing performance. Blends with CLT matrices double the energy generated from OPV devices, showing an energy density output of 4,054 mW⋅h cm−2over an 11-week operating period under outdoor conditions. This methodology opens avenues for both developing new thermoset networks for OPV and their use in other optoelectronic applications.

25. Formation and evolution of the unexpected PbI2 phase at the interface during the growth of evaporated perovskite films.

Abstract

The interface chemistry and evolution of the evaporated perovskite films on ITO, pedot/ITO, Si and glass substrates are studied. As evidenced by X-ray diffraction and X-ray photoemission spectroscopy (XPS) results, the PbI2 phase is found to be inevitably formed at the very initial growth stage, even under the conditions of a MAI-rich environment. The extremely low binding energy of adsorbed MAI particles on all the above substrates, as compared to that of PbI2 particles, is responsible for the presence of the PbI2 phase at the interface. The formation of both hole and electron barriers at the interface of PbI2/MAPbI3, as evidenced by XPS measurements, could block carrier transport into the electrode and thus deteriorate solar cell performance. This result reveals the origin of the poor performance of perovskite solar cells (PSCs) by the vacuum evaporation method, and may help to improve the performance of PSCs made using the vacuum evaporation method. Abstract

In recent years, self‐assembled monolayers (SAMs) have been proven to work efficiently as hole‐selective materials in both organic solar cells (OSCs) and perovskite solar cells. Although competitive performances are reported with these materials, a mechanistic understanding on device stability remains elusive. This study reveals that while various SAM molecules can increase the indium tin oxide (ITO) work function versus vacuum, they may not consistently result in monolayers that ensure simultaneous improvement in performance and operational stability of devices. Energetically, achieving alignment between the work function of the SAM‐modified electrode and the ionization energy (IE) of the donor is shown to be crucial for a low hole injection barrier, irrespective of the SAM's IE. Light‐induced degradation in the widely used SAM, (2‐(9H‐carbazol‐9‐yl)ethyl) phosphonic acid (2PACz), is identified through diverse aging tests and comprehensive chemical and electronic characterizations. This degradation involves SAM molecule decomposition and chemical reactions with the photoactive layer, contributing further to device degradation. Addressing these challenges, sputtered nickel oxide/SAM bilayers are proposed as hole‐selective contact with tailored interface energetics for both efficient and photostable OSCs, offering a promising alternative to commonly used hygroscopic PEDOT:PSS in OSCs. 27. Visible blind ultraviolet photodetector based on CH 3 NH 3 PbCl 3 thin film.

Abstract

We report a prototypical device of CH 3 NH 3 PbCl 3 film ultraviolet photodetectors that were fabricated with a coplanar metal-semiconductor-metal Au interdigital electrode configuration. Pure phase CH 3 NH 3 PbCl 3 films with a good crystallinity were formed by a hybrid sequential deposition process featured with inter-diffusion of PbCl 2 and CH 3 NH 3 Cl upon annealing. The CH 3 NH 3 PbCl 3 film photodetector exhibits a high responsivity of 7.56 A /W at 360 nm, a ultraviolet/visible rejection ratio (R360 nm/R500 nm) was about two orders of magnitude and fast response speed with a rising time of 170 μs and a decay time of 220 μs. All the above results demonstrate CH 3 NH 3 PbCl 3 film photodetector as a competitive candidate in the application of visible blind UV detectors.
