5. Research progress of large-scale brain network of Alzheimer's disease based on MRI analysis.

Abstract

With the advent of an aging society, Alzheimer's disease (AD) has gradually become a major ailment affecting the elderly. AD is a neurodegenerative disorder associated with cognitive impairments. In AD patients, brain network connections are disrupted, and their topological properties are also affected, leading to the disintegration of anatomical and functional connections. Anatomical connections can be tracked and evaluated using structural magnetic imaging (MRI) and diffusion tensor imaging ( DTI), while functional connections are detected through functional MRI to assess their connectivity status. This review incorporates the findings of previous scholars and summarizes the current research of AD. It mainly discusses the imaging characteristics of large-scale brain network changes in AD patients, so as to provide researchers with scientific and objective imaging markers for AD prediction and early diagnosis, as well as future research. 16. Plasma-assisted coating of nanosized SnO2 on LiNi0.5Co0.2Mn0.3O2 cathodes for enhanced cyclic stability of lithium-ion batteries

Abstract

Layered Ni-rich cathode materials, LiNixCoyMnzO2, are regarded as the most promising cathode materials due to their high energy density. However, their poor cyclic stability at high voltage significantly limits their commercial application. To address this problem, a series of SnO2-x surface-modified LiNi0.5Co0.2Mn0.3O2 cathode materials is prepared by a one-step plasma-assisted milling strategy. The conductive SnO2 nanograins are homogeneously coated on the surface of LiNi0.5Co0.2Mn0.3O2 microsized particles under the interaction of plasma and mechanical energy. As a result, the electrode consisting of milled LiNi0.5Co0.2Mn0.3O2 coated with 3 wt % SnO2 exhibits a high initial Coulombic efficiency of 82.7% and a good capacity retention of 92.3% after 150 cycles. This is superior to the other milled control materials and a commercial LiNi0.5Co0.2Mn0.3O2 electrode with an initial Coulombic efficiency of 77.4% and a capacity retention of 87.1% after 150 cycles. It is demonstrated that the synergistic effect of high energy plasma and milling-induced oxygen vacancies in the SnO2-x surface protection layers of the LiNi0.5Co0.2Mn0.3O2 cathode enable greatly increased conductivity of the active materials and stable interfaces between the electrolyte and electrode. These factors are beneficial to provide a higher discharge capacity and enhanced cyclic stability in the 3 wt % SnO2 coated LiNi0.5Co0.2Mn0.3O2 cathode.

30. Double heterozygous pathogenic mutations in KIF3Cand ZNF513cause hereditary gingival fibromatosis

Abstract

Hereditary gingival fibromatosis (HGF) is a rare inherited condition with fibromatoid hyperplasia of the gingival tissue that exhibits great genetic heterogeneity. Five distinct loci related to non-syndromic HGF have been identified; however, only two disease-causing genes, SOS1and REST, inducing HGF have been identified at two loci, GINGF1 and GINGF5, respectively. Here, based on a family pedigree with 26 members, including nine patients with HGF, we identified double heterozygous pathogenic mutations in the ZNF513(c.C748T, p.R250W) and KIF3C(c.G1229A, p.R410H) genes within the GINGF3 locus related to HGF. Functional studies demonstrated that the ZNF513p.R250W and KIF3Cp.R410H variants significantly increased the expression of ZNF513and KIF3Cin vitro and in vivo. ZNF513, a transcription factor, binds to KIF3Cexon 1 and participates in the positive regulation of KIF3Cexpression in gingival fibroblasts. Furthermore, a knock-in mouse model confirmed that heterozygous or homozygous mutations within Zfp513(p.R250W) or Kif3c(p.R412H) alone do not led to clear phenotypes with gingival fibromatosis, whereas the double mutations led to gingival hyperplasia phenotypes. In addition, we found that ZNF513 binds to the SOS1promoter and plays an important positive role in regulating the expression of SOS1. Moreover, the KIF3Cp.R410H mutation could activate the PI3K and KCNQ1 potassium channels. ZNF513 combined with KIF3C regulates gingival fibroblast proliferation, migration, and fibrosis response via the PI3K/AKT/mTOR and Ras/Raf/MEK/ERK pathways. In summary, these results demonstrate ZNF513+ KIF3Cas an important genetic combination in HGF manifestation and suggest that ZNF513mutation may be a major risk factor for HGF.

41. Molecularly Imprinted Macroporous Hydrogel Promotes Bone Regeneration via Osteogenic Induction and Osteoclastic Inhibition.

Abstract

Macroporous hydrogels offer physical supportive spaces and bio-instructive environment for the seeded cells, where cell-scaffold interactions directly influence cell fates and subsequently affect tissue regeneration post-implantation. Effectively modifying bioactive motifs at the inner pore surface provides appropriate niches for cell-scaffold interactions. A molecular imprinting method and sacrificial templates are introduced to prepare inner pore surface modification in the macroporous hydrogels. In detail, acrylated bisphosphonates (Ac-BPs) chelating to templates (CaCO 3 particles) are anchored on the inner pore surface of the methacrylated gelatin (GelMA)-methacrylated hyaluronic acid (HAMA)-poly (ethylene glycol) diacrylate (PEGDA) macroporous hydrogel (GHP) to form a functional hydrogel scaffold (GHP-int-BP). GHP-int-BP, but not GHP, effectively crafts artificial cell niches to substantially alter cell fates, including osteogenic induction and osteoclastic inhibition, and promote in situ bone regeneration. These findings highlight that molecular imprinting on the inner pore surface in the hydrogel efficiently creates orthogonally additive bio-instructive scaffolds for bone regeneration., (© 2024 Wiley‐VCH GmbH.)
