Abstract

Urolithiasis, referred to as the formation of stones in the urinary tract, is a common disease with growing prevalence and high recurrence rate worldwide. Although researchers have endeavoured to explore the mechanism of urinary stone formation for novel effective therapeutic and preventative measures, the exact aetiology and pathogenesis remain unclear. Propelled by sequencing technologies and culturomics, great advances have been made in understanding the pivotal contribution of the human microbiome to urolithiasis. Indeed, there are diverse and abundant microbes interacting with the host in the urinary tract, overturning the dogma that urinary system, and urine are sterile. The urinary microbiome of stone formers was clearly distinct from healthy individuals. Besides, dysbiosis of the intestinal microbiome appears to be involved in stone formation through the gut-kidney axis. Thus, the human microbiome has potential significant implications for the aetiology of urolithiasis, providing a novel insight into diagnostic, therapeutic, and prognostic strategies. Herein, we review and summarize the landmark microbiome studies in urolithiasis and identify therapeutic implications, challenges, and future perspectives in this rapidly evolving field. To conclude, a new front has opened with the evidence for a microbial role in stone formation, offering potential applications in the prevention, and treatment of urolithiasis. Abstract

Introduction: Bladder cancer (BCa) is the 10th most common type of cancer worldwide, and human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common sexually transmitted infection. However, the relationship between HPV infection and the risk of BCa is still controversial and inconclusive. Methods: This systematic review and meta‐analysis were conducted following the PRISMA 2020 reporting guideline. This study searched four bibliographic databases with no language limitation. The databases included PubMed (Medline), EMBASE, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science. Studies evaluating the interaction between HPV infection and the risk of BCa from inception through May 21, 2022, were identified and used in this study. This study estimated the overall and type‐specific HPV prevalence and 95% confidence intervals (95% CI) using Random Effects models and Fixed Effects models. In addition, this study also calculated the pooled odds ratio and pooled risk ratio with 95% CI to assess the effect of HPV infection on the risk and prognosis of bladder cancer. Two‐sample mendelian randomization (MR) study using genetic variants associated with HPV E7 protein as instrumental variables were also conducted. Results: This study retrieved 80 articles from the four bibliographic databases. Of the total, 27 were case–control studies, and 53 were cross‐sectional studies. The results showed that the prevalence of HPV was 16% (95% CI: 11%–21%) among the BCa patients, most of which were HPV‐16 (5.99% [95% CI: 3.03%–9.69%]) and HPV‐18 (3.68% [95% CI: 1.72%–6.16%]) subtypes. However, the study found that the prevalence varied by region, detection method, BCa histological type, and sample source. A significantly increased risk of BCa was shown for the positivity of overall HPV (odds ratio [OR], 3.35 [95% CI: 1.75–6.43]), which was also influenced by study region, detection method, histological type, and sample source. In addition, the study found that HPV infection was significantly associated with the progression of BCa (RR, 1.73 [95% CI: 1.39–2.15]). The two‐sample MR analysis found that both HPV 16 and 18 E7 protein exposure increased the risk of BCa (HPV 16 E7 protein: IVW OR per unit increase in protein level = 1.0004 [95% CI: 1.0002–1.0006]; p = 0.0011; HPV 18 E7 protein: IVW OR per unit increase in protein level = 1.0003 [95% CI: 1.0001–1.0005]; p = 0.0089). Conclusion: In conclusion, HPV may play a role in bladder carcinogenesis and contribute to a worse prognosis for patients with BCa. Abstract

The catalytic cycles of palladium-catalyzed silylation of aryl iodides, which are initiated by oxidative addition of hydrosilane or aryl iodide through three different mechanisms characterized by intermediates R3Si−PdII−H (Cycle A), Ar−PdII−I (Cycle B), and PdIV (Cycle C), have been explored in detail by hybrid DFT. Calculations suggest that the chemical selectivity and reactivity of the reaction depend on the ligation state of the catalyst and specific reaction conditions, including feeding order of substrates and the presence of base. For less bulky biligated catalyst, Cycle C is energetically favored over Cycle A, through which the silylation process is slightly favored over the reduction process. Interestingly, for bulky monoligated catalyst, Cycle B is energetically more favored over generally accepted Cycle A, in which the silylation channel is slightly disfavored in comparison to that of the reduction channel. Moreover, the inclusion of base in this channel allows the silylated product become dominant. These findings offer a good explanation for the complex experimental observations. Designing a reaction process that allows the oxidative addition of palladium(0) complex to aryl iodide to occur prior to that with hydrosilane is thus suggested to improve the reactivity and chemoselectivity for the silylated product by encouraging the catalytic cycle to proceed through Cycles B (monoligated Pd0 catalyst) or C (biligated Pd0 catalyst), instead of Cycle A. Abstract

The palladium-catalyzed desymmetrization of silacyclobutanes using electron-deficient alkynes proceeds with high enantioselectivity in the presence of a chiral P ligand; this provides a facile approach for the synthesis of novel silicon-stereogenic silanes. In this work, we used hybrid density functional theory (DFT) to elucidate the mechanism of the palladium-catalyzed desymmetrization of silacyclobutanes with dimethyl acetylenedicarboxylate. Full catalytic cycle including two different initiation modes that were proposed to be a possible initial step to the formation of the 1-pallada-2-silacyclopentane/alkyne intermediate-the oxidative addition of the palladium complex to the silacyclobutane Si−C bond (cycle MA) or coordination of the Pd0 complex with the alkyne C≡C bond (cycle MB)-have been studied. It was found that the ring-expansion reaction began with cycle MB is energetically more favorable. The formation of a seven-membered metallocyclic PdII intermediate was found to be the rate-determining step, whereas the enantioselectivity-determining step, oxidative addition of silacyclobutane to the three-membered metallocyclic PdII intermediate, was found to be quite sensitive to the steric repulsion between the chiral ligand and silacyclobutane. Abstract

The hairpin probe using microwave resonance in plasma is applicable to high pressure 1.33 × 103–1.01 × 105 Pa)) as developed recently. In this work, an analytic model of the hairpin resonator probe surrounded by a thin dielectric layer and a sheath layer is proposed. The correction factor due to these surroundings is analytically found and confirmed by electromagnetic field finite difference time domain simulation, thus enabling the accurate measurement of electron density in a high-pressure non-equilibrium uniform discharge.

Abstract

In this work, polyethylene terephthalate (PET) fibers were continuously treated by atmospheric dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) in Ar mixed O2 plasma, and the discharge was characterized by electrical function and optical diagnostics. It is found that the interfacial adhesion strength between treated PET fiber and resorcinol formaldehyde latex (RFL) (little)-rubber was improved (about 50%) by the measurement of interfacial shear strength (IFSS) and peel test. The wettability was improved rapidly in the initial treatment time. It is considered that oxidation chemical reaction as the major role of PET fiber surface modification is ahead of the physical etching effect. The high density of atomic oxygen in the plasma by optical emission spectroscopy supports the purpose. According to the scanning electron micrograph (SEM) image in the work, the longer treatment time obviously caused physical etching effect, which shall be less responsible for the improvement of the wettability.
