We perform simulations for transport and nontrivial fusion of Majorana zero modes in topological superconducting quantum wires. We uncover interesting behaviors of nonadiabatic transition associated with the transport through mini-gate-controlled multiple-segments modulations. Owing to breaking of the initial fermion parity induced by nonadiabatic transitions, a deviation from the statistics of outcomes of nontrivial fusion arises and is analyzed. Moreover, we develop a measurement scheme to infer the amount of fermion parity breaking and nonadiabatic transition probability to excited states, based on the characteristic spectrum of measurement current by a quantum-point-contact detector, by measurement of the charge occupation dynamics in a fusion-outcome-probing quantum dot., Comment: 9 pages, 6 figures

The non-Markovianity of physical systems is considered to be a valuable resource that has potential applications to quantum information processing. The control of traveling quantum fields encoded with information (flying qubit) is crucial for quantum networks. In this work, we propose to catch and release the propagating photon/phonon with a non-Markovian giant atom, which is coupled to the environment via multiple coupling points. Based on the Heisenberg equation of motion for the giant atom and field operators, we calculate the time-dependent scattering coefficients from the linear response theory and define the criteria for the non-Markovian giant atom. We analyze and numerically verify that the field bound states due to non-Markovianity can be harnessed to catch and release the propagating bosonic field on demand by tuning the parameters of giant atom., Comment: 26 pages, 7 figures

Materials with kagome lattice have attracted significant research attention due to their nontrivial features in energy bands. In this work, we theoretically investigate the evolution of electronic band structures of kagome lattice in response to uniaxial strain using both a tight-binding model and an antidot model based on a periodic muffin-tin potential. It is found that the Dirac points move with applied strain. Furthermore, the flat band of unstrained kagome lattice is found to develop into a highly anisotropic shape under a stretching strain along y direction, forming a partially flat band with a region dispersionless along ky direction while dispersive along kx direction. In this work, we perform real time simulations for probing the non-Abelian fusion of a pair of Majorana zero modes (MZMs). The nontrivial fusion outcomes can be either a vacuum, or an unpaired fermion, which reflect the underlying non-Abelian statistics. The two possible outcomes can cause different charge variations in the nearby probing quantum dot (QD), while the charge occupation in the dot is detected by a quantum point contact. In particular, we find that gradual fusion and gradual coupling of the MZMs to the QD (in nearly adiabatic switching-on limit) provide a simpler detection scheme than sudden coupling after fusion to infer the coexistence of two fusion outcomes, by measuring the occupation probability of the QD. For the scheme of sudden coupling (after fusion), we propose and analyze continuous weak measurement for the quantum oscillations of the QD occupancy. From the power spectrum of the measurement currents, one can identify the characteristic frequencies and infer thus the coexistence of the fusion outcomes., Comment: 7 pages, 5 figures

In this work we perform real time simulations for the dynamics of braiding a pair of Majorana zero modes (MZMs) through a quantum dot in a minimal setup of pure 1D realization. We reveal the strong nonadiabatic effect when the dot energy level approaches to zero in order to achieve a geometric phase $\pi/4$ which is required for a full exchange between the MZMs. Rather than the strategies of nonuniformly manipulating the system according to adiabatic condition and shortcuts-to-adiabaticity, we propose and illustrate a more feasible scheme to suppress the nonadiabatic transition, meanwhile which allows for a full exchange between the Majorana modes., Comment: 6 pages, 5 figures

We present a theoretical analysis for the metrology quality of joint weak measurements (JWM), in close comparison with the weak-value-amplification (WVA) technique. We point out that the difference probability function employed in the JWM scheme cannot be used to calculate the uncertainty variance and Fisher information (FI). In order to carry out the metrological precision, we reformulate the problem in terms of difference-combined stochastic variables, which makes all calculations well defined. We reveal that, in general, the metrological precision of the JWM scheme cannot reach that indicated by the total FI, despite that all the readouts are collected without discarding. We also analyze the effect of technical noise, showing that the technical noise cannot be removed by the subtracting procedure, which yet can be utilized to outperform the conventional measurement, when considering the imaginary WV measurement., Comment: 10 pages, 6 figures

We propose a transport probe scheme to detect the nonadiabatic transition caused by Majornana moving, which is relevant to the braiding operations in topological quantum computation. The scheme is largely based on a time dependent single-electron-wavefunction approach to quantum transport. Applying the Kitaev model, we simulate the time dependent Andreev-reflection current and examine the feasibility of using the current to infer the nonadiabatic transition. We design a scheme to determine the Landau-Zener tunneling ratio in the context of transport, and compare it with the result obtained from the isolated quantum wire. The nonlocal nature of the Majorana zero modes implies an inherent teleportation channel and unique transport signatures for Majorana identification. In this work we make an effort to eliminate some inconsistencies between the Bogoliubov-de Gennes equation based treatment and the method using the associated regular fermion number states of vacancy and occupation within the `second quantization' framework. We first consider a rather simple `quantum dot--Majorana wire--quantum dot' system, then a more experimentally relevant setup by replacing the quantum dots with transport leads. For the latter setup, based on the dynamical evolution of electron-hole excitations, we develop a single-particle-wavefunction approach to quantum transport, which renders both the conventional quantum scattering theory and the steady-state nonequilibrium Green's function formalism as its stationary limit. Further, we revisit the issue of Majorana tunneling spectroscopy and consider in particular the two-lead coupling setup. We present comprehensive discussions with detailed comparisons, and predict a zero-bias-limit conductance of $e^2/h$ (for symmetric coupling to the leads),which is a half of the popular result of the zero-bias-peak, or, the so-called Majorana quantized conductance ($2e^2/h$). The present work may arouse a need to reexamine some existing studies and the proposed treatment is expected to be involved in analyzing future experiments in this fast developing field., Comment: 12 pages, 4 figures

In this work we extend our previous studies on the quantum transfer of a particle through a finite-bandwidth continuum under frequent detections, by replacing the assumed frequent measurements with a genuine continuous monitoring by a point-contact detector. We present a quantitative comparison between the two types of measurement. We also propose possible measurements, based on the state-of-the-art experiments, to test the `scaling' property between the measurement rate and the bandwidth of the reservoir, rooted in the transfer dynamics under continuous monitoring., Comment: 8 pages, 4 figures

The measurement-result-conditioned evolution of a system (e.g. an atom) with spontaneous emissions of photons is well described by the quantum trajectory (QT) theory. In this work we generalize the associated QT theory from infinitely wide bandwidth Markovian environment to the case of finite bandwidth non-Markovian environment. In particular, we generalize the treatment for arbitrary spectrum, which is not restricted by the specific Lorentzian case. We rigorously prove a general existence of a perfect scaling behavior jointly defined by the bandwidth of environment and the time interval between successive photon detections. For a couple of examples, we obtain analytic results to facilitate QT simulations based on the Monte-Carlo algorithm. In this work we present a large-deviation analysis for the counting statistics of atomic spontaneous emissions continuously detected in finite-bandwidth non-Markovian environment. We show that the statistics of the spontaneous emissions depends on the response time of the detector, which can result in big differences such as dynamical phase transition. This feature excludes the idea of regarding the spontaneous emissions as detection-free objective events. The Josephson supercurrent through the hybrid Majorana--quantum dot--Majorana junction is investigated. We particularly analyze the effect of spin-selective coupling between the Majorana and quantum dot states, which emerges only in the topological phase and will influence the current through bent junctions and/or in the presence of magnetic fields in the quantum dot. We find that the characteristic behaviors of the supercurrent through this system are quite counterintuitive, remarkably differing from the resonant tunneling, e.g., through the similar (normal phase) superconductor--quantum dot--superconductor junction. Our analysis is carried out under the influence of full set-up parameters and for both the $2\pi$ and $4\pi$ periodic currents. The standard method of "measuring" quantum wavefunction is the technique of {\it indirect} quantum state tomography. Owing to conceptual novelty and possible advantages, an alternative {\it direct} scheme was proposed and demonstrated recently in quantum optics system. In this work we present a study on the direct scheme of measuring qubit state in the circuit QED system, based on weak measurement and weak value concepts. To be applied to generic parameter conditions, our formulation and analysis are carried out for finite strength weak measurement, and in particular beyond the bad-cavity and weak-response limits. In this work we generalize the quantum trajectory (QT) theory from Markovian to non-Markovian environments. We model the non-Markovian environment by using a Lorentzian spectral density function with bandwidth ($\Lambda$), and find perfect "scaling" property with the measurement frequency ($\tau^{-1}$) in terms of the scaling variable $x=\Lambda\tau$. Our result bridges the gap between the existing QT theory and the Zeno effect, by rendering them as two extremes corresponding to $x\to\infty$ and $x\to 0$, respectively. In this work we uncover an interesting quantum plateau behavior for the Andreev reflection between a one-dimensional quantum wire and superconductor. The quantum plateau is achieved by properly tuning the interplay of the spin-orbit coupling within the quantum wire and its tunnel coupling to the superconductor. This plateau behavior is justified to be unique by excluding possible existences in the cases associated with multi-channel quantum wire, the Blonder-Tinkham-Klapwijk continuous model with a barrier, and lattice system with on-site impurity at the interface., Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures

We revisit the spin-injected field effect transistor (spin-FET) by simulating a lattice model based on recursive lattice Green's function approach. In the one-dimensional case and coherent regime, the simulated results reveal noticeable differences from the celebrated Datta-Das model, which motivate thus an improved treatment and lead to analytic and generalized result. The simulation also allows us to address inelastic scattering (using B\"uttiker's fictitious reservoir approach) and lateral confinement effects on the control of spins which are important issues in the spin-FET device., Comment: 9 pages, 4 figures

We study transitions of a particle between two wells, separated by a reservoir, under the condition that the particle is not detected in the reservoir. Conventional quantum trajectory theory predicts that such no-result continuous measurement would not affect these transitions. We demonstrate that it holds only for Markovian reservoirs (infinite bandwidth $\Lambda$). In the case of finite $\Lambda$, the probability of the particle's interwell transition is a function of the ratio $\Lambda/\nu$, where $\nu$ is the frequency of measurements. This scaling tells us that in the limit $\nu\to\infty$, the measurement freezes the initial state (the quantum Zeno effect), whereas for $\Lambda\to\infty$ it does not affect the particle's transition across the reservoir. The scaling is proved analytically by deriving a simple formula, which displays two regimes, with the Zeno effect and without the Zeno effect. It also supports a simple explanation of the Zeno effect entirely in terms of the energy-time uncertainty relation, with no explicit use of the projection postulate. Mixed-quantum-classical molecular dynamics simulation implies an effective measurement on the electronic states owing to continuously tracking the atomic forces.Based on this insight, we propose a quantum trajectory mean-field approach for nonadiabatic molecular dynamics simulations. The new protocol provides a natural interface between the separate quantum and classical treatments, without invoking artificial surface hopping algorithm. Moreover, it also bridges two widely adopted nonadiabatic dynamics methods, the Ehrenfest mean-field theory and the trajectory surface-hopping method. Excellent agreement with the exact results is illustrated with representative model systems, including the challenging ones for traditional methods.

The powerful molecular dynamics (MD) simulation is basically based on a picture that the atoms experience classical-like trajectories under the exertion of classical force field determined by the quantum mechanically solved electronic state. In this work we propose a quantum trajectory approach to the MD simulation with surface hopping, from an insight that an effective "observation" is actually implied in theMDsimulation through tracking the forces experienced, just like checking the meter's result in the quantum measurement process. This treatment can build the nonadiabatic surface hopping on a dynamical foundation, instead of the usual artificial and conceptually inconsistent hopping algorithms. We consider a transport setup containing a double-dot connected by a continuum. Via an exact solution of the time-dependent Schr\"odinger equation, we demonstrate a highly non-Markovian quantum-coherence-mediated transport through this dot-continuum-dot (DCD) system, which is in contrast with the common premise since in typical case a quantum particle does not reenter the system of interest once it irreversibly decayed into a continuum (such as the spontaneous emission of a photon). We also find that this DCD system supports an unusual steady state with unequal source and drain currents, owing to electrons irreversibly entering the continuum and floating there.

In solid-state circuit QED system, we extend the previous study of generating and stabilizing two-qubit Bell state [Phys. Rev. A 82, 032335 (2010)], to three-qubit GHZ state. In dispersive regime, we employ the homodyne joint readout for multiple qubits to infer the state for further processing, and in particular use it to stabilize the state directly by means of an alternate-flip-interrupted Zeno (AFIZ) scheme. Moreover, the state-of-the-art feedback action based on the filtered current enables not only a deterministic generation of the pre-GHZ state in the initial stage, but also a fast recovery from the environment-caused degradation in the later stabilization process. We show that the proposed scheme can maintain the state with high fidelity if the efficient quantum measurement and rapid single-qubit rotations are available., Comment: 6 pages, 5 figures

In the solid-state circuit QED system and based on the homodyne measurement in dispersive regime, we demonstrate that a homodyne-current-based feedback can create and stabilize highly entangled two-qubit states in the presence of moderate noisy environment. Particularly, we present an extended analysis for the current-based Markovian feedback, which leads to an improved filtered-current-based feedback scheme.
