Small object detection (SOD) has been a longstanding yet challenging task for decades, with numerous datasets and algorithms being developed. However, they mainly focus on either visible or thermal modality, while visible-thermal (RGBT) bimodality is rarely explored. Although some RGBT datasets have been developed recently, the insufficient quantity, limited category, misaligned images and large target size cannot provide an impartial benchmark to evaluate multi-category visible-thermal small object detection (RGBT SOD) algorithms. In this paper, we build the first large-scale benchmark with high diversity for RGBT SOD (namely RGBT-Tiny), including 115 paired sequences, 93K frames and 1.2M manual annotations. RGBT-Tiny contains abundant targets (7 categories) and high-diversity scenes (8 types that cover different illumination and density variations). Note that, over 81% of targets are smaller than 16x16, and we provide paired bounding box annotations with tracking ID to offer an extremely challenging benchmark with wide-range applications, such as RGBT fusion, detection and tracking. In addition, we propose a scale adaptive fitness (SAFit) measure that exhibits high robustness on both small and large targets. The proposed SAFit can provide reasonable performance evaluation and promote detection performance. Based on the proposed RGBT-Tiny dataset and SAFit measure, extensive evaluations have been conducted, including 23 recent state-of-the-art algorithms that cover four different types (i.e., visible generic detection, visible SOD, thermal SOD and RGBT object detection). Energy systems planning models identify least-cost strategies for expansion and operation of energy systems and provide decision support for investment, planning, regulation, and policy. Most are formulated as linear programming (LP) or mixed integer linear programming (MILP) problems. Despite the relative efficiency and maturity of LP and MILP solvers, large scale problems are often intractable without abstractions that impact quality of results and generalizability of findings. We consider a macro-energy systems planning problem with detailed operations and policy constraints and formulate a computationally efficient Benders decomposition separating investments from operations and decoupling operational timesteps using budgeting variables in the master model. This novel approach enables parallelization of operational subproblems and permits modeling of relevant constraints coupling decisions across time periods (e.g. policy constraints) within a decomposed framework. Runtime scales linearly with temporal resolution; tests demonstrate substantial runtime improvement for all MILP formulations and for some LP formulations depending on problem size relative to analagous monolithic models solved with state-of-the-art commercial solvers. Our algorithm is applicable to planning problems in other domains (e.g. water, transportation networks, production processes) and can solve large-scale problems otherwise intractable. BaMF4 (M=Fe, Co, Ni and Mn) family are typical multiferroic materials, having antiferromagnetism at around liquid nitrogen temperature. In this work, polycrystalline BaFeF4 has been prepared by solid state reaction. The slight deficiency of Fe leads to the coexistence of valence states of +2 and +3, facilitating the electrons to hop between the neighboring Fe2+ and Fe3+ ions through the middle F- ion, leading to the strong double exchange interaction with weak ferromagnetism above room temperature. A bifurcation at about 170 K between the zero-field-cooled and field-cooled temperature dependent magnetization curves indicates the onset of 2-dimensional antiferromagnetism, which is completed at about 125 K with the sudden drop of magnetization. Despite the fact of type-I multiferroic, its magnetoelectricity can be evidenced by the pyroelectric current, which shows a peak starting at about 170 K and finishing at about 125 K. The saturated ferroelectric polarization change of around 34 {\mu}C/m2 is observed, which is switchable by the reversed poling electric field and decreases to about 30 {\mu}C/m2 under a magnetic field of 90 kOe. This magnetoelectricity can be qualitatively reproduced by first-principles calculations. Most existing CNN-based super-resolution (SR) methods are developed based on an assumption that the degradation is fixed and known (e.g., bicubic downsampling). However, these methods suffer a severe performance drop when the real degradation is different from their assumption. To handle various unknown degradations in real-world applications, previous methods rely on degradation estimation to reconstruct the SR image. Nevertheless, degradation estimation methods are usually time-consuming and may lead to SR failure due to large estimation errors. In this paper, we propose an unsupervised degradation representation learning scheme for blind SR without explicit degradation estimation. Specifically, we learn abstract representations to distinguish various degradations in the representation space rather than explicit estimation in the pixel space. Moreover, we introduce a Degradation-Aware SR (DASR) network with flexible adaption to various degradations based on the learned representations. It is demonstrated that our degradation representation learning scheme can extract discriminative representations to obtain accurate degradation information. Experiments on both synthetic and real images show that our network achieves state-of-the-art performance for the blind SR task. Photoelectric conversion efficiency of organic-inorganic perovskite solar cells has been rapidly raised and attracted great attention in recent years. The quality of perovskite films is vital for the performance of devices. We used the anti-solvent method to prepare CH$_3$NH$_3$PbI$_3$ thin films by spin coating and dried them at various temperature to transform adduct MAI.PbI$_2$.DMSO into CH$_3$NH$_3$PbI$_3$. We researched in detail on the relationship between surface morphology of MAPbI$_3$ thin films fabricated by the anti-solvent method and various drying temperature. We found that surface roughness and grain size of CH$_3$NH$_3$PbI$_3$ films together increased with increasing drying temperature. The larger grain size could efficiently reduce crystal boundaries which is advantageous for the suppression of photo-induced charge carrier recombination resulting in increase of FF. However, increase of surface roughness resulted in larger contact area at interface which might produce more tarp states and poorer wettability of HTM solution leading in decrease of Jsc. Surface morphology of MAPbI3 layer on the performance of solar cell devices is also an important research issue. By optimizing the drying temperature to 60 oC, the highest efficiency of 14.4% was achieved for the CH3NH3PbI3-based solar cell devices., Comment: 17 pages, 7 figures

Organometal trihalide perovskite solar cells have been rapidly developed and attracted much attention in recent years due to their high photoelectric conversion efficiency and low cost. Pulsed laser deposition (PLD) is a widely adopted technology which is used in the preparation of thin films, especially oxide thin films. With this technology, the thickness and composition of films can be conveniently and accurately controlled. In the structure of perovskite solar cells, TiO$_2$ layer working as the n-type semiconductor is used to block holes and transport electrons into electrode, which is crucial for the performance of whole devices. We introduced the PLD technique into preparation of TiO$_2$ layer. In comparison with common spin coating method, TiO$_2$ layer prepared by this technique is ultrathin and more compact. Compact TiO$_2$ (c-TiO$_2$) layers with optimized thickness of 32 nm have been prepared by the PLD method and the highest efficiency of 13.95 % for the MAPbI$_3$-based solar cell devices has been achieved.

The fabrication of high-quality organic-inorganic hybrid halide perovskite layers is the key prerequisite for the realization of high efficient photon energy harvest and electric energy conversion in their related solar cells. In this article, we report a novel fabrication technique of CH3NH3PbI3 layer based on high temperature chemical vapor reaction. CH3NH3PbI3 layers have been prepared by the reaction of PbI2 films which were deposited by pulsed laser deposition, with CH3NH3I vapor at various temperatures from 160 oC to 210 oC. X-ray diffraction patterns confirm the formation of pure phase, and photoluminescence spectra show the strong peak at around 760 nm. Scanning electron microscopy images confirm the significantly increased average grain size from nearly 1 {\mu}m at low reaction temperature of 160 oC to more than 10 {\mu}m at high reaction temperature of 200 oC. The solar cells were fabricated, and short-circuit current density of 15.75 mA/cm2, open-circuit voltage of 0.49 V and fill factor of 71.66% have been obtained., Comment: 10 figures

To pursuit high electrochemical performance of supercapacitors based on Faradaic charge-transfer with redox reaction or absorption/desorption effect, the intercalation efficiency of electrolyte ions into electrode materials is a crucial prerequisite to surpass the pure surface capacity with extra bulk contribution. Here we report layered barium transition metal fluorides, BaMF4 (M = Mn, Co, Ni) to be a series of new electrode materials applied in standard three-electrode configuration. Benefiting from the efficient immersing of electrolyte ions, these materials own prominent specific capacitance. Electrochemical characterizations demonstrate that all the BaMF4 electrodes show both capacitive behavior and Faradaic redox reactions in the cyclic voltammograms, and ability of charge storage by charging-discharging cycling with high cycling stability. Particularly, BaCoF4 shows the the highest specific capacitance of 360 F g-1 at current density of 0.6 A g-1, even the particle size is far beyond nanometer scale. Single-ion lanthanide-organic complexes can provide stable magnetic moments with well-defined orientation for spintronic applications on the atomic level. Here, we show by a combined experimental approach of scanning tunneling microscopy and X-ray absorption spectroscopy that dysprosium-tris(1,1,1-trifluoro-4-(2-thienyl)-2,4butanedionate) (Dy(tta)$_3$) complexes deposited on a Au(111) surface undergo a molecular distortion, resulting in distinct crystal field symmetry imposed on the Dy ion. This leads to an easy-axis magnetization direction in the ligand plane. Furthermore, we show that tunneling electrons hardly couple to the spin excitations, which we ascribe to the shielded nature of the $4f$ electrons.

A low temperature hydrothermal route has been developed, and pure phase Ba$_2$Ni$_3$F$_{10}$ nanowires have been successfully prepared under the optimized conditions. Under the 325 nm excitation, the Ba$_2$Ni$_3$F$_{10}$ nanowires exhibit three emission bands with peak positions locating at 360 nm, 530 nm, and 700 nm, respectively. Combined with the first-principles calculations, the photoluminescence property can be explained by the electron transitions between the t2g and eg orbitals. Clear hysteresis loops observed below the temperature of 60 K demonstrates the weak ferromagnetism in Ba$_2$Ni$_3$F$_{10}$ nanowires, which has been attributed to the surface strain of nanowires. Exchange bias with blocking temperature of 55 K has been observed, which originates from the magnetization pinning under the cooling field due to antiferromagnetic core/weak ferromagnetic shell structure of Ba2Ni3F10 nanowires.
