In this paper, we study the global regularity problem for the 2D Rayleigh-B\'{e}nard equations with logarithmic supercritical dissipation. By exploiting a combined quantity of the system, the technique of Littlewood-Paley decomposition and Besov spaces, and some commutator estimates, we establish the global regularity of a strong solution to this equations in the Sobolev space $H^{s}(\mathbb{R}^{2})$ for $s \ge2$., Comment: 18 pages

Abstract

In magnetic memories, the state of a ferromagnet is encoded in the orientation of its magnetization. The energy of the system is minimized when the magnetization is parallel or antiparallel to a preferred (easy) axis. These two stable directions define the logical bit. Under an external perturbation, the direction of magnetization can be controllably reversed and thus the bit flipped. Here, we theoretically design a topological analogue of the magnetic bit in the Su-Schrieffer-Heeger (SSH)-Holstein model, where we show that a transient external perturbation can lead to a permanent change in the electronic band topology., Comment: 14 pages, 5 figures

Abstract

Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is applied in various forms, such as decoction pieces, raw powder, extract, and patent Chinese medicine, etc. Controlling exogenous microbial contamination, ensuring the safety and effectiveness of traditional Chinese medicine, and selecting the appropriate sterilization technology are the key factors regarding its use. In this study, the literature on sterilization of TCM published from 2001 to 2021 was retrieved from CNKI, Wanfang, VIP, and Web of Science. Subsequently, visualization analysis software named VOSviewer and CiteSpace were used to analyze the application status and trend in TCM sterilization methods in the past 20 years. After screening was performed, 322 studies were included. The journal that published the highest number of studies on TCM sterilization was Electromechanical Information. The author's cooperative network analysis found that the Chinese medicine sterilization field mainly formed the China Institute for Food and Drug Control and Guangzhou Institute for Drug Control and other core research teams. Keywords in the literature show that the research on TCM sterilization of traditional Chinese medicine mainly focuses on irradiation, microwave, preparation process, active ingredients, drying, fingerprint, etc. The advantages and disadvantages of different sterilization technologies and their suitable scopes, combined with the future development trend in TCM sterilization, were comprehensively discussed for in-depth analysis, to provide a reference for researchers in selecting appropriate sterilization methods. To further promote the scientific development of TCM sterilization, the authors propose that TCM sterilization should be closely combined with technology, equipment, and policy in the future to facilitate rapid modernization of TCM.

32. Production of Light Nuclei at Thermal Freezeout in Heavy-Ion Collisions

Abstract

We revisit the problem of the production of light atomic nuclei in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions. While their production systematics is well produced by hadro-chemical freezeout at temperatures near the QCD pseudo-critical temperature, their small binding energies of a few MeV per nucleon suggest that they cannot survive as bound states under these conditions. Here, we adopt the concept of effective chemical potentials in the hadronic evolution from chemical to thermal freezeout (at typically $T_{\rm fo}$$\simeq$100\,MeV), which, despite frequent elastic rescatterings in hadronic matter, conserves the effective numbers of particles which are stable under strong interactions, most notably pions, kaons and nucleons. It turns out that the large chemical potentials that build up for antibaryons result in thermal abundances of light nuclei and antinuclei, formed at thermal freezeout, which essentially agree with the ones evaluated at chemical freezeout. Together with their transverse-momentum spectra, which also indicate a kinetic freezeout near $T_{\rm fo}$, this provides a natural explanation for their production systematics without postulating their survival at high temperatures., Comment: 5 pages, 7 figures, v2: "Note added" corrected

40. Redox Activity of Co Species in the Active Sites of CoNx/CoOx Facilitates Oxygen Electrocatalysis for Zn‐Air Batteries.

Abstract

Developing efficient bifunctional oxygen electrocatalysts is crucial for enhancing the performance of rechargeable Zn‐air batteries (ZABs). In this study, cobalt/cobalt oxides embedded in N‐doped carbon nanofibers (Co/CoOx/NCNFs) were synthesized through a combination of electrospinning and annealing processes. The resulting Co/CoOx/NCNFs catalysts feature abundant CoNx and CoOx active species, leveraging the large specific surface area of nanofibers to facilitate oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER). The optimized Co/CoOx/NCNFs‐0.1 achieved a half‐wave potential (vs. RHE) of 0.82 V and required only 429 mV to reach 10 mA cm−2 in a typical three‐electrode system with 0.1 M KOH using an electrochemical workstation equipped with a pine instruments rotator, outperforming the Pt/C+RuO2. The assembled ZABs exhibited high specific capacity (771 mAh gZn−1), substantial power density (981.6 mWh gZn−1), and long‐term stability (>325 h). In situ Raman spectroscopy confirmed that the electrocatalytic processes involve the redox activity of Co (II and III) species derived from abundant CoNx and CoOx, elaborating the origin of the catalysts' exceptional oxygen electrocatalysis performance. This work not only presents a straightforward and effective approach for producing bifunctional oxygen electrocatalysts in ZABs but also sheds light on the catalytic mechanisms underlying ORR and OER for CoNx/CoOx‐based oxygen electrocatalysts. 41. The Characteristics, Sources, and Health Risks of Volatile Organic Compounds in an Industrial Area of Nanjing.

Abstract

This study investigates the chemical complexity and toxicity of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emitted from national petrochemical industrial parks and their effects on air quality in an industrial area of Nanjing, China. Field measurements were conducted from 1 December 2022, to 17 April 2023, focusing on VOC concentrations and speciations, diurnal variations, ozone formation potential (OFP), source identification, and associated health risks. The results revealed an average total VOC (TVOC) concentration of 15.9 ± 12.9 ppb and an average OFP of 90.1 ± 109.5 μg m−3. Alkanes constituted the largest fraction of VOCs, accounting for 44.1%, while alkenes emerged as the primary contributors to OFP, comprising 52.8%. TVOC concentrations peaked before dawn, a pattern attributed to early morning industrial activities and nighttime heavy vehicle operations. During periods classified as clean, when ozone levels were below 160 μg m−3, both TVOC (15.9 ± 12.9 ppb) and OFP (90.4 ± 110.0 μg m−3) concentrations were higher than those during polluted hours. The analysis identified the key sources of VOC emissions, including automobile exhaust, oil and gas evaporation, and industrial discharges, with additional potential pollution sources identified in adjacent regions. Health risk assessments indicated that acrolein exceeded the non-carcinogenic risk threshold at specific times. Moreover, trichloromethane, 1,3-butadiene, 1,2-dichloroethane, and benzene were found to surpass the acceptable lifetime carcinogenic risk level (1 × 10−6) during certain periods. These findings highlight the urgent need for enhanced monitoring and regulatory measures aimed at mitigating VOC emissions and protecting public health in industrial areas. In the context of complex air pollution in urban industrial areas, policymakers should focus on controlling industrial and vehicle emissions, which can not only reduce secondary pollution, but also inhibit the harm of toxic substances on human health.
