5. Excitation of flatland surface-wave leakage on an equivalent reactance surface by a single-wire transmission line.

Abstract

Recently, researchers have demonstrated, both theoretically and experimentally, that low-dimensional version of conventional leaky waves, known as "flatland leaky waves" (FLWs). FLWs can be supported by planar junctions of metasurfaces and are completely confined to a plane. Here, we design a structure that places an equivalent reactance surface near the transmission line to excite the FLWs. By properly designing the geometry of the unit cell, conditions can be created for faster surface waves (SWs) to excite slower SWs on the surface, resulting in the desired form of two-dimensional (2D) leaky-wave radiation. A sample was fabricated and measured, and both the simulation results and the experimental results yielded the desired results. Finally, we design the equivalent impedance surface model on which we can also observe the 2D FLWs. Our research not only deepens the understanding of the phenomenon of FLWs but also brings the application of equivalent reactance surfaces in the field of electromagnetic phenomena research to a higher level. Abstract

Edge states protected by bulk topology of photonic crystals show robustness against short-range disorder, making robust information transfer possible. Here, topological photonic crystals under long-range deformations are investigated. Vertices of each regular hexagon in a honeycomb crystalline structure are shifted randomly to establish a deformed system. By increasing the degree of random deformations, a transition from an ordered system to an amorphous system are investigated, where the close of topological bandgap is clearly shown. We further present comprehensive investigations into excitation methods of the proposed deformed system. Due to the lack of strict periodicity, excitation of topological edge modes becomes difficult. Chiral and linearly polarized sources as two different methods are investigated respectively. It is found that chiral sources are sensitive and rely on the ordered lattice. Even a weak long-range deformation can bring fluctuations to transmission. We further designed and fabricated metal-dielectric-metal sandwich-like samples working in the microwave band. Using linearly polarized source, we detected the existence of topological transport in the deformed system. This work investigates excitation and robustness of bulk topology against long-range deformations and may open the way for exploiting topological properties of materials with a deformed lattice.

13. Compact bilateral single conductor surface wave transmission line

Abstract

A compact bilateral single conductor surface wave transmission line (TL) is proposed, converting the quasi-transverse electromagnetic (QTEM) mode of low characteristic impedance slotline into the transverse magnetic (TM) mode of single-conductor TL. The propagation constant of the proposed TL is decided by geometric parameters of the periodic corrugated structure. Compared to conventional transitions between coplanar waveguide (CPW) and single-conductor TLs, such as Goubau line (G-Line) and surface plasmons TL, the proposed structure halves the size and this feature gives important potentials to develop integrated surface wave devices and circuits. The designed structure, sample fabrication and experimental verification are discussed.

22. Electromagnetically induced transparency based on spoof localized surface plasmons.

Abstract

A pair of resonators are used to realize multiple electromagnetically induced transparency-like (EIT-like) transmission peaks operating in the microwave band, with the bright and dark modes being symmetric double-ellipsoids and spoof localized surface plasmons. The simulation and test results reveal that the EIT-like metamaterial may generate three transparent EIT-like transmission peaks in the 9~12 GHz frequency range. Following that, we propose a plasmonically induced transparency refractive index sensor that operates in the IR range. The group delay in this sensor has broad applicability in diverse surface sensing based on EIT-like metamaterials. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

El-Zanati et al proved that for any 1-factorization $\mathcal{F}$ of the complete uniform hypergraph $\mathcal {G}=K_{rn}^{(r)}$ with $r\geq 2$ and $n\geq 3$, there is a rainbow 1-factor. Abstract

Given a graph $G$ and a subgraph $H$ of $G$, let $rb(G,H)$ be the minimum number $r$ for which any edge-coloring of $G$ with $r$ colors has a rainbow subgraph $H$. The number $rb(G,H)$ is called the rainbow number of $H$ with respect to $G$. Denote $mK_2$ a matching of size $m$ and $B_{n,k}$ a $k$-regular bipartite graph with bipartition $(X,Y)$ such that $|X|=|Y|=n$ and $k\leq n$. In this paper we give an upper and lower bound for $rb(B_{n,k},mK_2)$, and show that for given $k$ and $m$, if $n$ is large enough, $rb(B_{n,k},mK_2)$ can reach the lower bound. Abstract

In this letter, a new microwave sensor of the coaxial resonant cavity with a single-open-ended circuit loaded capacitor is proposed and used to detect the liquids' complex permittivity. The improved cavity has a higher internal electric field and smaller size when compared with the cylindrical cavity, which gives the sensor a high sensitivity in measuring liquids' complex permittivity. A coaxial resonant cavity operating in 1.9 GHz was designed in this work. The silicone hose used for the test is inserted vertically from the center of the cavity, and the liquids under test (LUTs) are guaranteed to be 2 ml each time. The dielectric properties of LUTs will cause perturbation to the internal electric field of the cavity. By analyzing the measured data, the sensitivity of the cavity is 0.12%, and the relative errors of the real part of the measured value and the reference value are 3.67%. which shows the measured value has a good agreement with the reference value.
