Since the continuous authentication (CA) system based on smartphone sensors has been facing the challenge of the low-data regime under some practical scenarios, which leads to low accuracy of CA, it needs to be solved urgently. To this end, currently, the generative adversarial networks (GAN) provide a powerful method to train the result generative model that could generate very convincing verisimilar data. The framework of the GAN and its variants shed much light on improving the performance of CA. Therefore, in this article, we propose a continuous authentication system on smartphones based on a Wasserstein generative adversarial network (WGAN) for sensor data augmentation, which utilizes accelerometers, gyroscopes, and magnetometers of smartphone sensors to sense phone movements caused by user operation behavior. Specifically, based on sensor data under different user activities, the WGAN is used to create additional data in training data for data augmentation. With the augmented data, we design a convolutional neural network to learn and extract deep features from sensor data, and then use four classifiers of RF, OCSVM, DT, and KNN to train these features. Finally, we train and test on the HMOG dataset, and the results show that the EER of the authentication system is between 3.68% and 6.39% on the sensor data with a time window of 2 s.

Blockchain technology has been widely used in many fields, such as smart cities, smart health care, and smart manufacturing, due to its anonymity, decentralization, and tamper resistance in peer-to-peer (P2P) networks. However, poor scalability has severely affected the widespread adoption of traditional blockchain technology in high-throughput and low-latency applications. Therefore, based on the three-layer architecture, this study presents a variety of solutions to improve the scalability of the blockchain. As the scale of the network expands, one of the most practical ways to achieve horizontal scalability is sharding, where the network is divided into multiple subnetworks to avoid repeated communication overhead, storage, and calculations. This study provides a systematic and comprehensive introduction to blockchain sharding, along with a detailed comparison and evaluation for primarily considered sharding mechanisms. We also provide the detailed calculations and then analyze the characteristics of existing solutions along with our insights.

Based on reanalysis datasets and sea-ice sensitivity experiments, this study has pointed out that the autumn sea ice loss in East Siberian-Chukchi-Beaufort (EsCB) Seas significantly increases the frequency of winter extreme low temperature over western-central China. Autumn sea ice loss warms the troposphere and generates anticyclonic anomaly over the Arctic region one month later. Under the effects of synoptic eddy-mean flow interaction and anomalous upward propagated planetary wave 2, the Arctic anticyclonic anomaly strengthens and develops toward Greenland-Northern Europe, accompanied by a weakened stratospheric polar vortex. In winter, following intra-seasonal downward propagation of stratospheric anomalies, the Northern European positive geopotential anomalies enhance and expand downstream within 7 days, favoring Arctic cold air east of Novaya Zemlya southward (hyperpolar path) accumulating in Siberia around Lake of Baikal. In the subsequent 2~3 days, these cold anomalies rapidly intrude western-central China and induce abrupt sharp cooling, thus more frequent extreme low temperature there.

The successful application of heterosis in hybrid rice has dramatically improved rice productivity, but the genetic mechanism for heterosis in the hybrid rice remains unclear. In this study, we generated two populations of rice F 1 hybrids with present-day commercial hybrid parents, genotyped the parents with 50k SNP chip and genome resequencing, and recorded the phenotype of ∼2,000 hybrids at three field trials. By integrating these data with the collected genotypes of ∼4,200 rice landraces and improved varieties that were reported previously, we found that the male and female parents have different levels of genome introgressions from other rice subpopulations, including indica , aus , and japonica , therefore shaping heterotic loci in the hybrids. Among the introgressed exogenous genome, we found that heterotic loci, including Ghd8 / DTH8 , Gn1a , and IPA1 existed in wild rice, but were significantly divergently selected among the rice subpopulations, suggesting these loci were subject to environmental adaptation. During modern rice hybrid breeding, heterotic loci were further selected by removing loci with negative effect and fixing loci with positive effect and pyramid breeding. Our results provide insight into the genetic basis underlying the heterosis of elite hybrid rice varieties, which could facilitate a better understanding of heterosis and rice hybrid breeding.

Stable isotopes in tree-ring cellulose provide important data in ecological, archaeological, and paleoenvironmental researches, thereby, the demand for stable isotope analyses is increasing rapidly. Simultaneous measurement of cellulose δ13C and δ18O values from tree rings would reduce the cost of isotopic commodities and improve the analytical efficiency compared with conventional separate measurement. In this study, we compared the δ13C and δ18O values of tree-ring α-cellulose from Tianshan spruce (Picea schrenkiana) in an arid site in the drainage basin of the Urumqi River in Xinjiang of northwestern China based on separate and simultaneous measurements, using the combustion method (at 1050°C) and the high-temperature pyrolysis method (at 1350°C and 1400°C). We verified the results of simultaneous measurement using the outputs from separate measurement and found that both methods (separate and simultaneous) produced similar δ13C values. The two-point calibrated method improved the results (range and variation) of δ13C and δ18O values. The mean values, standard deviations, and trends of the tree-ring δ13C obtained by the combustion method were similar to those by the pyrolysis method followed by two-point calibration. The simultaneously measured δ18O from the pyrolysis method at 1400°C had a nearly constant offset with that the pyrolysis method at 1350°C due to isotopic-dependence on the reaction temperature. However, they showed similar variations in the time series. The climate responses inferred from simultaneously and separately measured δ13C and δ18O did not differ between the two methods. The tree-ring δ13C and δ18O values were negatively correlated with standardized precipitation evapotranspiration index from May to August. In addition, the δ18O was significantly correlated with temperature (positive), precipitation (negative), and relative humidity (negative) from May to August. The tree-ring δ13C and δ18O values determined simultaneously through the high-temperature pyrolysis method could produce acceptable and reliable stable isotope series. The simultaneous isotopic measurement can greatly reduce the cost and time requirement compared with the separate isotopic measurement. These results are consistent with the previous studies at humid sites, suggesting that the simultaneous determination of δ13C and δ18O in tree-ring α-cellulose can be used in wide regions.

Tree-ring δ13C and δ18O of dominant Dahurian larch and Mongolia pine in the permafrost region of the northern Great Higgnan Mountains, China were used to elucidate species-specific ecophysiological responses to warming temperatures and increasing CO2 over the past century. Larch and pine stable carbon discrimination (Δ13C) 13C and δ18O in tree rings both showed synchronous changes during the investigated period (1901–2010), but with species-specific isotopic responses to atmospheric enriched CO2 and warming. Tree-ring Δ13C and δ18O were controlled by both maximum temperature and moisture conditions (precipitation, relative humidity and vapor pressure deficit), but with different growth periods (Δ13C in June–July and δ18O in July–August, respectively). In addition, stable isotopes of larch showed relatively greater sensitivity to moisture deficits than pine. Climatic conditions from 1920 to 1960 strongly and coherently regulated tree-ring Δ13C and δ18O through stomatal conductance. However, climatic-sensitivities of tree-ring Δ13C and δ18O recently diverged, implying substantial adjustments of stomatal conductance, photosynthetic rate and altered water sources over recent decades, which reveal the varied impacts of each factor on tree-ring Δ13C and δ18O over time. Based on expected changes in leaf gas-exchange, we isolated the impacts of atmospheric CO2 and climate change on intrinsic water-use efficiency (iWUE) over the past century. Higher intracellular CO2 in pine than larch from 1960 onwards suggests this species may be more resilient to severe droughts in the future. Our data also illustrated no weakening of the iWUE response to increasing CO2 in trees from this permafrost region. The overall pattern of CO2 enrichment and climate impacts on iWUE of pine and larch were similar, but warming increased iWUE of larch to a greater extent than that of pine over recent two decades. Taken together, our findings highlight the importance of considering how leaf gas-exchange responses to atmospheric CO2 concentration influence species-specific responses to climate and the alteration of the hydrological environment in forests growing in regions historically dominated by permafrost that will be changing rapidly in response to future warming and increased CO2.

The thermal and moisture balance of permafrost regions has been altered by global warming, profoundly influencing vegetation dynamics and forest carbon cycling. To understand the spatial and temporal characteristics and driving forces responsible for changes in moisture conditions in the permafrost region of the Greater and Lesser Hinggan Mountains, northeastern China, we assessed long-term trends for temperature, precipitation, and the standardized precipitation-evapotranspiration index. From 1951 to 2014, annual mean temperature had a significant increase trend and the annual precipitation was not with significant trend. Since 1951, the annual standardized precipitation-evapotranspiration index has decreased significantly at the boundary between regions with seasonal soil freezing and permafrost, suggesting that conspicuous permafrost degradation and moisture loss has occurred. The study area can be divided into 4 parts with a different balance between thermal and moisture conditions: the northern Songnen Plains, the Hulun Buir Sand Land, the middle reaches of the Heilongjiang River, and the Mohe region. However, only the middle reaches of the Heilongjiang River showed an obvious long-term drying trend. The 4 areas showed quasi-periodic oscillation and sea surface temperature during the winter half-year affected drought intensity in the northern of Songnen Plains. When El Nino strengthened, moisture conditions increased in the northern of Songnen Plains, whereas stronger La Nina events decreased water availability. The result of this study will be beneficial for regional water resource management and prepare for potential drought hazards in the northeastern China.

Rising atmospheric CO2 (Ca) can increase tree radial growth by increasing intrinsic water-use efficiency (iWUE). However, the effects of age on the response remain unknown, particularly for forests in remote areas such as China’s Tianshan Mountains. Here, we assessed age-dependent growth trends of Picea schrenkiana using tree-ring data from low and high elevations and two detrending methods to detect robust long-term trends. We developed age-dependent relationships between basal area increment (BAI) and iWUE based on size-class isolation and separated the contributions of climate variables and iWUE to radial growth. The juvenile trees showed growth increases over time, versus growth reductions in two older age classes. An overall negative trend existed for combined data from all age classes and elevations. iWUE increased in response to increasing Ca for trees in all age groups at low and high elevations, with higher values in near-mature and mature trees (100 yr

Increasing air temperature and atmospheric CO 2 concentrations ( C a ) can profoundly affect photosynthesis and intrinsic water-use efficiency ( iWUE ). However, the response of trees in boreal permafrost regions to rapid warming and C a increases is poorly constrained by prior research. Here, we evaluated long-term changes in growth (using regional curve standardization [RCS]) and iWUE of Dahurian larch ( Larix gmelinii ) and Mongolian pine ( Pinus sylvestris var. mongolica ) in the boreal permafrost region of northeastern China and species-specific responses to increasing C a and temperature. From 1930–2010, RCS growth of Dahurian larch and Mongolian pine decreased, while iWUE increased by 25.5 and 21.1%, respectively. RCS growth of both species was negatively correlated with winter temperatures, but Mongolian pine depended most strongly on previous December to current February temperatures and Dahurian larch depended most strongly on March temperatures. Moisture conditions only weakly influenced growth. We found similar long-term changes of tree-ring δ 13 C in the two species. Carbon isotopic discrimination of Dahurian larch and Mongolian pine was determined mainly by growing season temperature (positive) and moisture (negative), but with different signal strengths, suggesting that stomatal conductance influenced tree-ring δ 13 C. Commonality analysis showed that RCS growth was affected mainly by temperature, but also by the combined effect (interaction) of iWUE and temperature. However, the contribution of iWUE alone was lower for Mongolian pine. Our results suggest that the increased iWUE caused by increasing C a will not improve tree growth sufficiently to compensate for temperature-induced water stress. The rate of temperature increase has slowed around 1990, which would have stabilized the degree of temperature-induced water stress, and this could be helpful to tree growth recovery in the permafrost region of northeastern China.

Summary Stable isotopes in tree rings are increasingly used as proxies for climatic and ecophysiological changes. However, uncertainties remain about the strength and consistency of their response to environmental variation at different temporal (i.e. seasonal to inter-decadal) scales. We developed 5 yr of intra-seasonal and 62 yr of early- and late-wood δ13C and δ18O series of Smith fir (Abies georgei var. smithii) on the southeastern Tibetan Plateau, and used a process-based forward model to examine the relative importance of environmental and physiological controls on the isotopic data. In this temperate high-altitude region, the response, both δ18O and δ13C, is primarily to variations in relative humidity, but by different processes. In δ18O, the response is via source water δ18O but also arises from leaf water 18O enrichment. In δ13C, the response is via changes in stomatal conductance but is modified by carry-over effects from prior periods. We conclude that tree-ring δ18O may be a more robust climate proxy than δ13C, and δ13C may be more suited to studies of site-related physiological responses to the local environment.

Tree ring delta C-13 as a climate proxy is widely used for palaeoclimate research, however, its temporal stability response to the climate change remains unclear under more than one limited factors on tree growth. Here, we used a millennium tree-ring delta C-13 chronology combining two annual-resolution delta C-13 chronologies since 1800 from long-lived Qilian juniper (Sabina przewalskii) to assess its instability of the climate signal in the northeastern Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau. Tree-ring delta C-13 chronologies were strongly correlated with the regional mean April to August temperature from 1956 to 2008, but the associations were absent within the period 1901 to 1955 values in the CRU TS dataset. Comparison of the millennium-long delta C-13 series with reconstructed Asian temperatures also demonstrated that the delta C-13 chronology exhibited climate signal temporal instability. Substantial oscillations were revealed using a frequency-dependent analysis and 51-year running correlation analysis from the millennium-long tree-ring delta C-13 and delta O-18 series. Dual-isotope approach indicated that stomatal limitations created a statistical significant positive correlation between tree-ring delta C-13 and delta O-18, but photosynthetic rate may be dominant when the correlations were not significant. Our results suggest that tree-ring delta C-13 series in the northeastern Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau is responded instability to temperature variations in the past 1000 years. (C) 2016 Elsevier B.V. Tree growth in the mid-latitudes of the northern hemisphere reveals significant inter-annual variation in carbon sequestration, and the variations have been widely attributed to climate change, especially to the recent rapid warming and increasing drought stress. However, the response of natural trees under the different regions that exist in the northeastern Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau remains unclear. Here, we use nine Qilian juniper (Sabina przewalskii) tree-ring width and basal area increment (BAI) chronologies from the middle of the Qilian Mountains and the northeastern Qaidam Basin to quantify tree growth trends and their response to the recent rapid warming. The trees, growing at high and low elevations, exhibited a consistent pattern of inter-annual variations, with increasing synchronicity in their trends since 1950. Responses to several climate factors indicate that increasing temperature accelerated tree growth in the middle of the Qilian Mountains, but restricted tree growth in the northeastern Qaidam Basin. Moving-window correlation analyses demonstrate a clearly contrasting response to the temperature variations. Our findings suggest that growth of Qilian juniper in the middle of the Qilian Mountains will increase steadily in the future rapid warming, but may remain constant or even decrease in the northeastern Qaidam Basin. These contrasting responses to temperatures provide valuable information on forest dynamics in the critical mid-latitude regions that should be incorporated into predictions of future forest carbon cycling under global warming.

Central Asian droughts have drastically and significantly affected agriculture and water resource management in these arid and semiarid areas. Based on tree ring δ18O from native, dominant Schrenk spruce (Picea schrenkiana Fisch. et Mey.), we developed a 300 year (1710–2010) standard precipitation-evaporation index (SPEI) reconstruction from January to August for China's western Tianshan Mountains. The regression model explained 37.6% of the variation in the SPEI reconstruction during the calibration period from 1950 to 2010. Comparison with previous drought reconstructions confirmed the robustness of our reconstruction. The 20th century has been a relatively wet period during the past 300 years. The SPEI showed quasi 2, 5, and 10 year cycles. Several pluvials and droughts with covariability over large areas were revealed clearly in the reconstruction. The two longest pluvials (lasting for 12 years), separated by 50 years, appeared in the 1900s and the 1960s. The most severe drought occurred from 1739 to 1761 and from 1886 to 1911 was the wettest period since 1710. Compared to previous investigations of hydroclimatic changes in the western Tianshan Mountains, our reconstruction revealed more low-frequency variability and indicated that climate in the western Tianshan Mountains shifted from dry to wet in 1886. This regime shift was generally consistent with other moisture reconstructions for the northeastern Tibetan Plateau and northern Pakistan and may have resulted from a strengthened westerly circulation. The opposite hydrological trends in the western Tianshan Mountains and southeastern Tibetan Plateau reveal a substantial influence of strengthened westerlies and weakening of the Indian summer monsoon.

Stable hydrogen isotope ratios (δD) in tree rings are an attractive but still rarely explored terrestrial archive of past climatic information. Because the preparation of the cellulose nitrate for δD measurements requires more wood and a longer preparation time than preparation techniques for other isotopes in cellulose (δ18O or δ13C), it is challenging to obtain high-resolution records, especially for slow-growing trees at high elevations and in boreal regions. Here, we tested whether annually pooled samples of Qinghai spruce (Picea crassifolia Kom.) trees from northwestern China provided results similar to those derived as the mean of individual measurements of the same trees and whether the resulting chronologies recorded useful climate information. Inter-tree variability of δD was higher than that of measured ring width for the same trees. We found higher and significant coherence between pooled and mean isotope chronologies than that among the individual series. It showed a logarithmic relationship between ring mass and δD; however, accounting for the influence of ring mass on δD values only slightly improved the strength of climatic signals in the pooled records. Tree-ring δD was significantly positively correlated with the mean, maximum, and minimum temperatures during the previous winter and with maximum temperature during the current August, and significantly negatively correlated with precipitation in the previous November to January and the current July. The winter climate signal seems to dominate tree-ring δD through the influence of large-scale atmospheric circulation patterns, i.e. the Arctic Oscillation. These results will facilitate reconstruction of winter atmospheric circulation patterns over northwestern China based on a regional tree-ring δD networks.

The purpose of this paper is to select a power consumption forecasting method with high accuracy and low error. Previous power consumption forecasting methods are basically based on the optimization and improvement of the original classical forecasting methods, and the error has not been substantially reduced. It was not until 2006 that the unveiling of deep learning technology opened a new chapter in the direction of artificial intelligence, and the research of power consumption forecasting has ushered in a new wave. In this paper, the origin of deep learning technology is introduced, and the LSTMs model of deep learning is built, and the short-term electricity consumption forecasting model is built, which can complete the forecasting of the time series of electricity consumption. At the end of this paper, a case simulation analysis is carried out. After 57 days’training of power consumption data, the power consumption curve in the next week is finally obtained. It is found that the error rate is very small and the accuracy is high.

A new rice floral organ mutant bh1 , had a negative effect on grain yield. BH1 was fine mapped to 87.5 kb on chr2. A 55 kb chromosome segment was deleted in bh1. The cereal spikelet is enclosed by the lemma and palea. The lemma and palea of the floral mutant designated bh1, a selection from a T-DNA library generated from the rice cultivar Asominori, takes on an abnormal curve-shaped appearance only late in floral development, finally forming a beak-shaped hull. The mutation had a negative effect on thousand grain weight, seed set rate and germination rate. Genetic analysis indicated that the mutant phenotype was determined by a single recessive gene. Through map-based approach, BH1 gene was finally located to a ~87.5-kbp region on the long arm of chromosome 2. An analysis of the gene content of this region indicated that the mutation involves the loss of a 55-kbp stretch, harboring four open reading frames. Transcription profiling based on qRT-PCR revealed that the genes OsMADS1, OsMADS14, OsMADS15, OsMADS18, REP1, CFO1, and DL, all of which are also involved in lemma and palea development and identity specification, were down-regulated in the bh1 mutant. BH1 is therefore an important floral organ development gene.

The Loess Plateau in China constitutes in important source area for both water and sediments to the Yellow River. Thus, improved prediction techniques of rainfall may lead to better estimation of discharge and sediment content for the Yellow River. Consequently. the objective of this study was to establish better links between rainfall of the Loess Plateau in China and sea surface temperature (SST) in the Pacific Ocean. Results showed that there is a strong lagged correlation between and SST and rainfall. The SST for Micronesia and areas South of the Aleutian Islands showed significant correlations (s.f. < 0.001: 99.9%) with rainfall over the dryer region of the Loess Plateau for a lag of 4 to 6 months. The SST over the equator On the cast Pacific Ocean also showed significant negative correlation with rainfall. Low and middle latitude areas (S10-20 degrees and around 30 degrees) of the south-east Pacific Ocean displayed significant positive and negative correlation with rainfall on the semiarid Loess Plateau. The differenced SST values (positive SST minus negative SST) increased these correlation,, with rainfall. An artificial neural network (ANN) model was used to predict Summer rainfall from the differenced SST during, the spring period. The correlation between predicted and observed months), rainfall was in general larger than 0.7. This indicates that major annual rainfall (during summer season) can be predicted with good accuracy using the suggested approach. Copyright (D 2008 John Wiley & Sons. Ltd.

The rising atmospheric CO2 concentration (Ca) has increased tree growth and intrinsic water-use efficiency (iWUE). However, the magnitude of this effect on long-term iWUE and whether this increase could stimulate the growth of riparian forests in extremely arid regions remain poorly understood. We investigated the relationship between growth [ring width; basal area increment (BAI)] and iWUE in a riparian Populus euphratica Oliv. forest to test whether growth was enhanced by increasing CO2 and whether this compensated for environmental stresses in the lower reaches of the inland Heihe River, northwestern China. We accomplished this using dendrochronological methods and carbon (δ(13)C) and oxygen (δ(18)O) isotopic analysis. We found an increase in BAI before 1958, followed by a decrease from 1958 to 1977 and an increase to a peak around 2000. Tree-ring carbon discrimination (Δ) and δ(18)O indicated significant negative overall trends from 1920 to 2012. However, the relationship shifted in strength and direction around 1977 from significantly negative to a weak connection. The seasonal minimum temperature in April to July showed strong influence on Δ, and δ(18)O was controlled by relative humidity (negatively correlated) and temperature (positively correlated) in June and July. The patterns of internal to atmospheric CO2 (Ci/Ca) suggest a specific adaptation of tree physiology to increasing CO2. Intrinsic water-use efficiency increased significantly (by 36.4%) during the study period. The increased iWUE explained 19.8 and 39.1% of the observed yearly and high-frequency (first-order difference) variations in BAI, respectively, after 1977. Our results suggest significant CO2 stimulation of riparian tree growth, which compensated for the negative influences of reductions in river streamflow and a drying climate during the study period.

Sediment yields from the rolling hills area of the Loess Plateau in northern China (10 000-25 000 t km(-2) yr(-1)) are amongst the highest in the world. The sediment is believed to derive from both the deep gullies that dissect the rolling plateau and the steep cultivated fields on the slopes of the mounds between the gullies. However, there are few reliable data for erosion rates on the cultivated fields and it is suspected that current estimates (10 000-16 000 t km(-2) yr(-1)) based on empirical relationships (derived from erosion plot studies) exceed the true values. This study sought to address the need for more information concerning erosion of the cultivated fields through derivation of erosion rates from measurements of rill volume and caesium-137 (Cs-137) inventories for typical fields near the village of Ansai, Shaanxi Province. The derived erosion rates are discussed and compared with estimates based on empirical relationships derived from erosion plot data. Where erosion rate estimates based on both rill volume data and Cs-137 inventories are available, they show good agreement in the pattern of downslope variation. Both show a sharp decline in erosion rates at a slope length of c. 50 m. This is tentatively attributed to a change from transport-limited to detachment-limited conditions, where rill incision reaches the undisturbed loess at the base of the plough layer. No such decline is visible in the predictions based on empirical relationships derived from erosion plot data, Further evidence is presented that supports the suggestion that these empirical relationships overestimate erosion rates at slope lengths in excess of c. 50 m. It is tentatively suggested that the rates of soil erosion from sloping cultivated fields in the rolling hills area are more likely to lie in the range 8000-10 000 t km(-2) yr(-1) than in the higher range suggested by the empirical relationships.
