In this paper, we propose a novel minimal physical model to elucidate the long-term stochastic variability of blazars. The model is built on the realistic background of magnetized plasma jets dissipating energy through a turbulent cascade process that transfers energy to small-scale structures with highly anisotropic radiation. The model demonstrates the ability to spontaneously generate variability features consistent with observations of blazars under uniformly random fluctuations in the underlying physical parameters. This indicates that the model possesses self-similarity across multiple time scales, providing a natural explanation for the universal power spectral density (PSD) structure observed in different types of blazars. Moreover, the model exhibits that when the cascade process produces a relatively flat blob energy distribution, the spectral index of the model-simulated PSD in the high-frequency regime will be steeper than that predicted by the Damped Random Walk (DRW) model, which is in agreement with recent observations of active galactic nucleus (AGN) variability, providing a plausible theoretical explanation. The model is also able to reproduce the observed fractional variability amplitude (FVA) characteristics of blazars, and suggests that the specific particle acceleration and radiative cooling processes within the blob may not be the key factor shaping the long-term stochastic variability. The origin of diffuse high-energy neutrinos from TeV to PeV energies detected by IceCube Observatory remains a mystery. In our previous work, we have shown that hadronuclear (p-p) interactions in AGN jets could be important and generate detectable very-high-energy emissions. Here, we further explore these interactions in the AGN jets based on their luminosity function. The diffuse neutrino flux and corresponding $\gamma$-ray flux have been calculated and compared with observational data. In our modeling, two beaming patterns are considered separately. To make sure that the corresponding $\gamma$-ray flux does not overshoot the diffuse $\gamma$-ray background, we find that if the neutrino production region in jet is opaque to $\gamma$ rays, p-p interactions in AGN jets with a small viewing angle (the blazar case) are able to interpret the PeV neutrino background. Similarly, AGN jets with a large viewing angle (the radio galaxy case) may interpret the TeV neutrino background. While, if the neutrino production region is transparent to $\gamma$ rays, only blazars have the potential to interpret the DNB around PeV band. The discovery that blazars dominate the extra-galactic {\gamma}-ray sky is a triumph in the Fermi era. However, the exact location of {\gamma}-ray emission region still remains in debate. Low-synchrotron-peaked blazars (LSPs) are estimated to produce high-energy radiation through the external Compton process, thus their emission regions are closely related to the external photon fields. We employed the seed factor approach proposed by Georganopoulos et al. It directly matches the observed seed factor of each LSP with the characteristic seed factors of external photon fields to locate the {\gamma}-ray emission region. A sample of 1138 LSPs with peak frequencies and peak luminosities was adopted to plot a histogram distribution of observed seed factors. We also collected some spectral energy distributions (SEDs) of historical flare states to investigate the variation of {\gamma}-ray emission region. Those SEDs were fitted by both quadratic and cubic functions using the Markov-chain Monte Carlo method. Furthermore, we derived some physical parameters of blazars and compared them with the constraint of internal {\gamma}{\gamma}-absorption. We find that dusty torus dominates the soft photon fields of LSPs and most {\gamma}-ray emission regions of LSPs are located at 1-10 pc. The soft photon fields could also transition from dusty torus to broad line region and cosmic microwave background in different flare states. In an era of information explosion, recommender systems are vital tools to deliver personalized recommendations for users. The key of recommender systems is to forecast users' future behaviors based on previous user-item interactions. Due to their strong expressive power of capturing high-order connectivities in user-item interaction data, recent years have witnessed a rising interest in leveraging Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) to boost the prediction performance of recommender systems. Nonetheless, classic Matrix Factorization (MF) and Deep Neural Network (DNN) approaches still play an important role in real-world large-scale recommender systems due to their scalability advantages. Despite the existence of GNN-acceleration solutions, it remains an open question whether GNN-based recommender systems can scale as efficiently as classic MF and DNN methods. In this paper, we propose a Linear-Time Graph Neural Network (LTGNN) to scale up GNN-based recommender systems to achieve comparable scalability as classic MF approaches while maintaining GNNs' powerful expressiveness for superior prediction accuracy. Extensive experiments and ablation studies are presented to validate the effectiveness and scalability of the proposed algorithm. Previous studies on the fitting of spectral energy distributions (SEDs) often apply the external-Compton process to interpret the high-energy peak of low-synchrotron-peaked (LSP) BL Lac objects (LBLs), despite the lack of strong broad emission lines observed for LBLs. In this work, we collect quasi-simultaneous multi-wavelength data of 15 LBLs from the Fermi fourth LAT AGN catalog (4LAC). We propose an analytical method to assess the necessity of external photon fields in the framework of one-zone scenario. Following derived analytical results, we fit the SEDs of these LBLs with the conventional one-zone leptonic model and study their jet physical properties. Our main results can be summarized as follows. (1)We find that most LBLs cannot be fitted by the one-zone synchrotron self-Compton (SSC) model. This indicates that external photons play a crucial role in the high-energy emission of LBLs, therefore we suggest that LBLs are masquerading BL Lacs. (2) We suggest that the $\gamma$-ray emitting regions of LBLs are located outside the broad-line region and within the dusty torus. (3) By extending the analytical method to all types of LSPs in Fermi-4LAC (using historical data), we find that the high-energy peaks of some flat spectrum radio quasars and blazar candidates of unknown types can be attributed to the SSC emission, implying that the importance of external photons could be minor. The blazar sequence, including negative correlations between radiative luminosity $L_{\rm rad}$ and synchrotron peak frequency $\nu$, and between Compton dominance $Y$ and $\nu$, is widely adopted as a phenomenological description of spectral energy distributions (SEDs) of blazars, although its underlying cause is hotly debated. In particular, these correlations turn positive after correcting Doppler boosting effect. In this work, we revisit the phenomenological and intrinsic blazar sequence with three samples, which are historical sample (SEDs are built with historical data), quasi-simultaneous sample (SEDs are built with quasi-simultaneous data) and Doppler factor corrected sample (a sample with available Doppler factors), selected from literature. We find that phenomenological blazar sequence holds in historical sample, but does not exist in quasi-simultaneous sample, and intrinsic correlation between $L_{\rm rad}$ and $\nu$ becomes positive in Doppler factor corrected sample. We also analyze if the blazar sequence still exists in subclasses of blazars, i.e., flat-spectrum radio quasars and BL Lacertae objects, with different values of $Y$. To interpret these correlations, we apply a simple scaling model, in which physical parameters of the dissipation region are connected to the location of the dissipation region. We find that the model generated results are highly sensitive to the chosen ranges and distributions of physical parameters. Therefore, we suggest that even though the simple scaling model can reproduce the blazar sequence under specific conditions that have been fine-tuned, such results may not have universal applicability. We report on multiwavelength studies of a blazar NVSS J171822+423948, which is identified as the low-energy counterpart of 4FGL J1718.5+4237, the unique $\gamma$-ray source known to be cospatial with the IceCube neutrino event IC-201221A. After a 12-year long quiescent period undetected by Fermi-LAT, $\gamma$-ray activities with a tenfold flux increase emerge soon (a few tens of days) after arrival of the neutrino. Associated optical flares in the ZTF $g$, $r$, and $i$ bands are observed together with elevated WISE infrared fluxes. Synchronized variations suggest that both the $\gamma$-ray emission and the neutrino event are connected to the blazar. Furthermore, the optical spectrum reveals emission lines at a redshift $z$ = 2.68 $\pm$ 0.01. Thus, it is the first candidate for a neutrino-emitting blazar at the redshift above 2. Learning from Text-Attributed Graphs (TAGs) has attracted significant attention due to its wide range of real-world applications. The rapid evolution of large language models (LLMs) has revolutionized the way we process textual data, which indicates a strong potential to replace shallow text embedding generally used in Graph Neural Networks (GNNs). However, we find that existing LLM approaches that exploit text information in graphs suffer from inferior computation and data efficiency. In this work, we introduce a novel and efficient approach for the end-to-end fine-tuning of Large Language Models (LLMs) on TAGs, named LEADING. The proposed approach maintains computation cost and memory overhead comparable to the graph-less fine-tuning of LLMs. Moreover, it transfers the rick knowledge in LLMs to downstream graph learning tasks effectively with limited labeled data in semi-supervised learning. Its superior computation and data efficiency are demonstrated through comprehensive experiments, offering a promising solution for a wide range of LLMs and graph learning tasks on TAGs.

Broken symmetries and electronic topology are nicely manifested together in the second order nonlinear optical responses from topologically nontrivial materials. While second order nonlinear optical effects from the electric dipole (ED) contribution have been extensively explored in polar Weyl semimetals (WSMs) with broken spatial inversion (SI) symmetry, they are rarely studied in centrosymmetric magnetic WSMs with broken time reversal (TR) symmetry due to complete suppression of the ED contribution. Here, we report experimental demonstration of optical second harmonic generation (SHG) in a magnetic WSM Co$_{3}$Sn$_{2}$S$_{2}$ from the electric quadrupole (EQ) contribution. By tracking the temperature dependence of the rotation anisotropy (RA) of SHG, we capture two magnetic phase transitions, with both the SHG intensity increasing and its RA pattern rotating at $T_{C,1}$=175K and $T_{C,2}$=120K subsequently. The fitted critical exponents for the SHG intensity and RA orientation near $T_{C,1}$ and $T_{C,2}$ suggest that the magnetic phase at $T_{C,1}$ is a 3D Ising-type out-of-plane ferromagnetism while the other at $T_{C,2}$ is a 3D XY-type all-in-all-out in-plane antiferromagnetism. Our results show the success of detection and exploration of EQ SHG in a centrosymmetric magnetic WSM, and hence open the pathway towards the future investigation of its tie to the band topology., Comment: 19 pages, 4 figures

In this work, a time-dependent modeling is developed to study the emission properties of blazars in the low state. Motivated by various observations, we speculate and assume that numerous discrete radiation zones throughout the jet of a blazar contribute to the broadband emission. We model the temporal evolution of the electron spectrum in each emission zone taking into account the injection, cooling and escape of relativistic electrons. By doing so, we are able to calculate the multi-wavelength emission of each radiation zone. The observed emission of a blazar is then the superposition of the emission from all discrete radiation zones. We revisit the multi-wavelength spectral energy distributions, light curves and polarisation under the model, and discuss its potential to reproduce the flat radio spectra, the core-shift phenomena, the minute-scale gamma-ray variability, and the large polarisation-angle swings, which are difficult to explain under the conventional one-zone models simultaneously., Comment: 20 pages, 16 figures, 1 table; accepted by MNRAS

Recently, the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO) collaboration presented the first catalog of $\gamma$-ray sources using 508 days of LHAASO data, from March 2021 to September 2022. This catalog contains four blazars and a possible liner-type AGN counterpart. In this work, we establish averaged multi-wavelength SEDs by combining data from the \textsl{Fermi}-Large Area Telescope, \textsl{Swift}, ZTF, and WISE covering the same period as the LHAASO detection. In general, these five AGNs are found in low states at all wavelengths. To study the multi-wavelength properties of these AGNs, several jet emission models, including the one-zone leptonic model, the one-zone leptonic and hadronuclear ($pp$) model, the one-zone proton-synchrotron model, and the spine-layer model are applied to reproduce their averaged SEDs, respectively. We find that the one-zone leptonic model can reproduce most of the SEDs, except for the high-energy tail of the LHAASO spectra of Mrk 421 and Mrk 501. To improve the fitting, emission from $pp$ interactions is favoured in the framework of a one-zone model. The spine-layer model, which can be treated as a multi-zone scenario, can also provide good spectral fits. We describe the calibration and imaging heuristics developed and deployed in the ALMA interferometric data processing pipeline, as of ALMA Cycle 9. The pipeline software framework is written in Python, with each data reduction stage layered on top of tasks and toolkit functions provided by the Common Astronomy Software Applications package. This framework supports a variety of tasks for observatory operations, including science data quality assurance, observing mode commissioning, and user reprocessing. It supports ALMA and VLA interferometric data along with ALMA and NRO45m single dish data, via different stages and heuristics. In addition to producing calibration tables, calibrated measurement sets, and cleaned images, the pipeline creates a WebLog which serves as the primary interface for verifying the data quality assurance by the observatory and for examining the contents of the data by the user. Following the adoption of the pipeline by ALMA Operations in 2014, the heuristics have been refined through annual development cycles, culminating in a new pipeline release aligned with the start of each ALMA Cycle of observations. Initial development focused on basic calibration and flagging heuristics (Cycles 2-3), followed by imaging heuristics (Cycles 4-5), refinement of the flagging and imaging heuristics with parallel processing (Cycles 6-7), addition of the moment difference analysis to improve continuum channel identification (2020 release), addition of a spectral renormalization stage (Cycle 8), and improvement in low SNR calibration heuristics (Cycle 9). In the two most recent Cycles, 97% of ALMA datasets were calibrated and imaged with the pipeline, ensuring long-term automated reproducibility. Given a graph $G$, the graph $[G]$ obtained by adding, for each pair of vertices of $G$, a unique vertex adjacent to both vertices is called the binding graph of $G$. In this work, we show that the class of binding graphs is graph-isomorphism complete and that the stable partitions of binding graphs by the Weisfeiler-Lehman (WL) algorithm produce automorphism partitions. To test the isomorphism of two graphs $G$ and $H$, one computes the stable graph of the binding graph $[G\uplus H]$ for the disjoint union graph $G\uplus H$. The automorphism partition reveals the isomorphism of $G$ and $H$. Because the WL algorithm is a polynomial-time procedure, the claim can be made that the graph-isomorphism problem is in complexity class $\mathtt{P}$.

Thermal and thermoelectric measurements are known as powerful tools to uncover the physical properties of quantum materials due to their sensitivity towards the scattering and chirality of heat carriers. We use these techniques to confirm the presence of momentum and real-space topology in ScMn$_6$Sn$_6$. There is an unconventional dramatic increase in the Seebeck coefficient on entering the transverse conical spiral (TCS) below $T$ = 200 K suggesting an unusual scattering of heat carriers. In addition, the observed anomalous thermal Hall effect and the anomalous Nernst effect indicates non-zero Berry curvature in $k$-space. Furthermore, we identify a significant topological contribution to the thermal Hall and Nernst signals in the TCS phase revealing the impacts of real-space Berry curvature. We discuss the presence of topological thermal Hall effect and topological Nernst effect for the first time in the diverse HfFe$_6$Ge$_6$ family. This study illustrates the importance of transverse thermal and thermoelectric measurements to investigate the origin of topological transport in the non-coplanar magnetic phases in this family of kagome metals., Comment: 9 pages, 6 figures

The proton synchrotron radiation is considered as the origin of high-energy emission of blazars at times. However, extreme physical parameters are often required. In this work, we propose an analytical method to study the parameter space when applying the proton synchrotron radiation to fit the keV, GeV, and very-high-energy emission of blazar jets. We find that proton synchrotron radiation can fit the high-energy hump when it peaks beyond tens GeV without violating basic observations and theories. For the high-energy hump peaked around GeV band, extreme parameters, such as a super-Eddington jet power and a very strong magnetic field, are required. The `blazar sequence' has been proposed for more than 20 years, yet its nature is still unclear. In this work, for the first time, we expand this topic to the TeV band by using a sample of 58 TeV blazars including 48 blazars in the quiescent state and 21 blazars in the flaring state. We investigate the correlation between the TeV luminosity, which has been compensated for attenuation from extragalactic background light, and the synchrotron peak frequency. We note that there is no correlation between TeV luminosity and peak frequency in the quiescent state and a strong anti-correlation in the flaring state for the observed value. However, there is a strong positive correlation in both the quiescent state and the flaring state for the intrinsic value. This indicates that the blazar sequence is shown in the flaring state rather than in the quiescent state for the observed value and the blazar sequence is not present in both two states after removing the beaming effect. In addition, to confirm whether the beaming effect results in the blazar sequence, we compare the \textit{Fermi} $\gamma$-ray luminosity between the quiescent state and the flaring state. We find the \textit{Fermi} $\gamma$-ray luminosity in the flaring state is greater than that in the quiescent state and the Doppler factor in the flaring state is greater. Recent works have demonstrated the benefits of capturing long-distance dependency in graphs by deeper graph neural networks (GNNs). But deeper GNNs suffer from the long-lasting scalability challenge due to the neighborhood explosion problem in large-scale graphs. In this work, we propose to capture long-distance dependency in graphs by shallower models instead of deeper models, which leads to a much more efficient model, LazyGNN, for graph representation learning. Moreover, we demonstrate that LazyGNN is compatible with existing scalable approaches (such as sampling methods) for further accelerations through the development of mini-batch LazyGNN. Comprehensive experiments demonstrate its superior prediction performance and scalability on large-scale benchmarks. The implementation of LazyGNN is available at https://github.com/RXPHD/Lazy_GNN.

It is confirmed in this work that the graph isomorphism can be tested in polynomial time, which resolves a longstanding problem in the theory of computation. The contributions are in three phases as follows. 1. A description graph $\tilde{A}$ to a given graph $A$ is introduced so that labels to vertices and edges of $\tilde{A}$ indicate the identical or different amounts of walks of any sort in any length between vertices in $A$. Three processes are then developed to obtain description graphs. They reveal relations among matrix power, spectral decomposition and adjoint matrices, which is of independent interest. 2. We show that the stabilization of description graphs can be implemented via matrix-power stabilization, a new approach to distinguish vertices and edges to graphs. The approach is proven to be equivalent in the partition of vertices to Weisfeiler-Lehman (WL for short) process. The specific Square-and-Substitution (SaS) process is more succinct than WL process. The vertex partitions to our stable graphs are proven to be \emph{strongly} equitable partitions, which is important in the proofs of our main conclusion. Some properties on stable graphs are also explored. 3. A class of graphs named binding graphs is proposed and proven to be graph-isomorphism complete. The vertex partition to the stable graph of a binding graph is the automorphism partition, which allows us to confirm graph-isomorphism problem is in complexity class $\mathtt{P}$. Since the binding graph to a graph is so simple in construction, our approach can be readily applied in practice. Some examples are supplied as illustrations to the contexts, and a brief suggestion to implementation of SaS process is also given in the appendix., Comment: In this version, some related references are added. In the study of radiation mechanisms of AGNs' jets, hadronuclear (pp) interactions are commonly neglected, because the number density of cold protons in the jet is considered insufficient. Very recently, our previous work proves that pp interactions in the low TeV luminosity AGNs, which have potential to generate detectable very-high-energy (VHE) emission, could be important. Based on this, the one-zone pp model is employed to study low-state quasi-simultaneous spectral energy distributions of a sample of low TeV luminosity AGNs in this work. Our modeling results show that the gamma-ray generated in pp interactions can explain the observed TeV spectra and has contribution to higher energy band that could be detected by the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO). In the sample, we suggest that M 87, Mrk 421 and Mrk 501 are the most likely objects to be detected by LHAASO in the near future. The Astropy Project supports and fosters the development of open-source and openly-developed Python packages that provide commonly needed functionality to the astronomical community. A key element of the Astropy Project is the core package $\texttt{astropy}$, which serves as the foundation for more specialized projects and packages. In this article, we summarize key features in the core package as of the recent major release, version 5.0, and provide major updates for the Project. We then discuss supporting a broader ecosystem of interoperable packages, including connections with several astronomical observatories and missions. We also revisit the future outlook of the Astropy Project and the current status of Learn Astropy. The discovery and spectroscopic confirmation of Hyperion, a proto-supercluster at z~2.47, provides an unprecedented opportunity to study distant galaxies in the context of their large-scale environment. We carry out deep narrow-band imaging of a ~1*1 deg^2 region around Hyperion and select 157 Lya emitters (LAEs). The inferred LAE overdensity is delta_g~40 within an effective volume of 30*20*15 cMpc^3, consistent with the fact that Hyperion is composed of multiple protoclusters and will evolve into a super-cluster with a total mass of M_tot ~1.4*10^15 M_sun at z=0. The distribution of LAEs closely mirrors that of known spectroscopic members, tracing the protocluster cores and extended filamentary arms connected to them, suggesting that they trace the same large-scale structure. By cross-correlating the LAE positions with HI tomography data, we find weak evidence that LAEs may be less abundant in the highest HI regions, perhaps because Lya is suppressed in such regions. The Hyperion region hosts a large population of active galactic nuclei (AGN), ~12 times more abundant than that in the field. The prevalence of AGN in protocluster regions hints at the possibility that they may be triggered by physical processes that occur more frequently in dense environments, such as galaxy mergers. Our study demonstrates LAEs as reliable markers of the largest cosmic structures. When combined with ongoing and upcoming imaging and spectroscopic surveys, wide-field narrow-band imaging has the potential to advance our knowledge in the formation and evolution of cosmic structures and of their galaxy inhabitants.

Materials hosting kagome lattices have drawn interest for the diverse magnetic and electronic states generated by geometric frustration. In the $A$V$_3$Sb$_5$ compounds ($A$ = K, Rb, Cs), stacked vanadium kagome layers give rise to unusual charge density waves (CDW) and superconductivity. Here we report single-crystal growth and characterization of ScV$_6$Sn$_6$, a hexagonal HfFe$_6$Ge$_6$-type compound that shares this structural motif. We identify a first-order phase transition at 92 K. Single crystal X-ray and neutron diffraction reveal a charge density wave modulation of the atomic lattice below this temperature. This is a distinctly different structural mode than that observed in the $A$V$_3$Sb$_5$ compounds, but both modes have been anticipated in kagome metals. The diverse HfFe$_6$Ge$_6$ family offers more opportunities to tune ScV$_6$Sn$_6$ and explore density wave order in kagome lattice materials., Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures.
