Abstract Background Owing to the widespread use of chemical pesticides to control agricultural pests, pesticide tolerance has become a serious problem. In recent years, it has been found that symbiotic bacteria are related to pesticides tolerance. To investigate the potential role of microorganisms in the pesticide tolerance of Chilo suppressalis, this study was conducted. Results The insect was fed with tetracycline and cefixime as the treatment group (TET and CFM, respectively), and did not add antibiotics in the control groups (CK). The 16S rDNA sequencing results showed that antibiotics reduced the diversity of C. suppressalis symbiotic microorganisms but did not affect their growth and development. In bioassays of the three C. suppressalis groups (TET, CFM, and CK), a 72 h LC50 fitting curve was calculated to determine whether long-term antibiotic feeding leads to a decrease in pesticide resistance. The CK group of C. suppressalis was used to determine the direct effect of antibiotics on pesticide tolerance using a mixture of antibiotics and pesticides. Indirect evidence suggests that antibiotics themselves did not affect the pesticide tolerance of C. suppressalis. The results confirmed that feeding C. suppressalis cefixime led to a decrease in the expression of potential tolerance genes to chlorantraniliprole. Conclusions This study reveals the impact of antibiotic induced changes in symbiotic microorganisms on the pesticide tolerance of C. suppressalis, laying the foundation for studying the interaction between C. suppressalis and microorganisms, and also providing new ideas for the prevention and control of C. suppressalis and the creation of new pesticides.

Abstract IL-17+ γδ T cells (γδ T17) are kick-starters of inflammation due to their strict immunosurveillance of xenobiotics or cellular damages and rapid response to pro-inflammatory stimulators. IL-27 is a well-recognized pleiotropic immune regulator with potent inhibitory effects on type 17 immune responses. However, its actions on γδ T17 mediated inflammation and the underlying mechanisms are less well understood. Here we find that IL-27 inhibits the production of IL-17 from γδ T cells. Mechanistically, IL-27 promotes lipolysis while inhibits lipogenesis, thus reduces the accumulation of lipids and subsequent membrane phospholipids, which leads to mitochondrial deactivation and ensuing reduction of IL-17. More importantly, Il27ra deficient γδ T cells are more pathogenic in an imiquimod-induced murine psoriasis model, while intracutaneous injection of rmIL-27 ameliorates psoriatic inflammation. In summary, this work uncovered the metabolic basis for the immune regulatory activity of IL-27 in restraining γδ T17 mediated inflammation, which provides novel insights into IL-27/IL-27Ra signaling, γδ T17 biology and the pathogenesis of psoriasis.

Abstract Background Triglyceride glucose (TyG) index and its related parameters have been introduced as cost-effective surrogate indicators of insulin resistance, while prospective evidence of their effects on atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) remained scattered and inconsistent. We aimed to evaluate the association of TyG and its related parameters with new-onset ASCVD, and the predictive capacity were further compared. Method A total of 95,342 ASCVD-free participants were enrolled from the Kailuan study. TyG and its related parameters were defined by fasting blood glucose, triglyceride, body mass index (BMI), waist circumstance (WC) and waist-to-height ratio (WHtR). The primary outcome was incident ASCVD, comprising myocardial infarction (MI) and ischemic stroke (IS). Cox proportional hazard models and restricted cubic spline (RCS) analyses were adopted to investigate the association between each index and ASCVD. The C-index, integrated discrimination improvement (IDI), and net reclassification improvement (NRI) were used for comparison of their predictive value for ASCVD. Results During a median follow-up of 15.0 years, 8,031 new cases of ASCVD were identified. The incidence rate of ASCVD increased along with elevated levels of each index, and the relationships were found to be nonlinear in the RCS analyses. The hazard ratio (HR) and 95% confidence interval (95% CI) for ASCVD was 1.39 (1.35, 1.43), 1.46 (1.41, 1.50), 1.50 (1.46, 1.55), and 1.52 (1.48, 1.57) per 1 IQR increase of baseline TyG, TyG-BMI, TyG-WC, and TyG-WHtR, respectively, and the association were more pronounced for females and younger individuals aged

This article reviews the latest research progress on the role of mitochondrial autophagy receptor FUN14 domain containing 1 (FUNDC1) in mitochondrial events and kidney disease. FUNDC1 is a protein located in the outer membrane of mitochondria, which maintains the function and quality of mitochondria by regulating mitochondrial autophagy, that is, the selective degradation process of mitochondria. The structural characteristics of FUNDC1 enable it to respond to intracellular signal changes and regulate the activity of mitochondrial autophagy through phosphorylation and dephosphorylation. During phosphorylation, unc-51-like kinase 1 (ULK1) promotes the activation of mitophagy by phosphorylating Ser17 of FUNDC1. In contrast, Src and CK2 kinases inhibit the interaction between FUNDC1 and LC3 by phosphorylating Tyr18 and Ser13, thereby inhibiting mitophagy. During dephosphorylation, PGAM5 phosphatase enhances the interaction between FUNDC1 and LC3 by dephosphorylating Ser13, thereby activating mitophagy. BCL2L1 inhibits the activity of PGAM5 by interacting with PGAM5, thereby preventing the dephosphorylation of FUNDC1 and inhibiting mitophagy. FUNDC1 plays an important role in mitochondrial events, participating in mitochondrial fission, maintaining the homeostasis of iron and proteins in mitochondrial matrix, and mediating crosstalk between mitochondria, endoplasmic reticulum and lysosomes, which have important effects on cell energy metabolism and programmed death. In the aspect of kidney disease, the abnormal function of FUNDC1 is closely related to the occurrence and development of many diseases. In acute kidney injury (AKI), cardiorenal syndrome (CRS), diabetic nephropathy (DN), chronic kidney disease (CKD) ,renal fibrosis (RF) and renal anemia, FUNDC1-mediated imbalance of mitophagy may be one of the key factors in disease progression. Therefore, in-depth study of the regulatory mechanism and function of FUNDC1 is of great significance for understanding the pathogenesis of renal disease and developing new treatment strategies.

Background Recent Mendelian randomization and meta‐analysis highlight the relevance of MCP‐1 (monocyte chemoattractant protein‐1) in stroke. We aimed to investigate the associations between MCP‐1 and clinical outcomes in patients with ischemic stroke or transient ischemic attack and test whether inflammation mediates or jointly contributes to the relationships. Coal mining areas serve as pivotal bases for coal production, holding significant importance for local economies and energy supply. In the development of China’s energy and environmental protection, the planning of mining areas plays a crucial role. With the changing global energy landscape and China’s strategic goals of peaking carbon emissions and achieving carbon neutrality, the planning of coal mining areas transcends the mere extraction of resources, emphasizing the protection and restoration of the ecological environment, as well as the sustainable development of the mining economy. Therefore, it is imperative to integrate the content of “dual-carbon” planning into the overall planning of mining areas to guide the sustainable development of the coal industry and support the national “dual-carbon” strategic objectives. To implement “dual-carbon” planning for mining areas, a detailed assessment of the current carbon emissions status of the mining areas is required to provide a scientific basis for “dual-carbon” planning. This study, from the perspective of coal mining areas, proposes a “three-step method” to construct evaluation indicators, namely, the initial selection of indicators through comprehensive analysis, supplementation of indicators via social network analysis, and verification of indicators using the model method. The indicator system comprises seven primary indicators and thirty-six secondary indicators, incorporating the fuzzy variable membership degree function to establish a model for the quantitative calculation of secondary evaluation indicators and employing a hierarchical fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method to assess the green and low-carbon status of mining areas. Taking the Ningxia Jijiajing mining area as a case study, this study applies the evaluation system for empirical analysis. The results indicate that the Jijiajing mining area is currently at a lower level of green and low-carbon development but also shows great potential for improvement. In light of the evaluation results, this study suggests that the mining area should focus on the rational utilization of land resources, strengthen land reclamation, and reinforce ecological reconstruction and protection measures, providing a viable path for the green and low-carbon transformation of the mining area.

Background: Theta burst TUS (tbTUS) can induce increased cortical excitability in human, but how different sonication parameters influence the effects are still unknown. Objective: To examine how a range of sonication parameters, including acoustic intensity, pulse repetition frequency, duty cycle and sonication duration, influence the effects of tbTUS on human motor cortical excitability. Methods: 14 right-handed healthy subjects underwent 8 sessions with different tbTUS parameters in a randomized, cross-over design on separate days. The original tbTUS protocol was studied in one session and one parameter was changed in each of the seven sessions. To examine changes in cortical excitability induced by tbTUS, we measured the motor-evoked potential (MEP) amplitude, resting motor threshold, short-interval intracortical inhibition and intracortical facilitation, as well as short-interval intracortical facilitation before and up to 90 min after tbTUS. Results: All conditions increased MEP amplitudes except the condition with low acoustic intensity of 10 W/cm2. Pulse repetition frequency of 5 Hz produced higher MEP amplitudes compared to pulse repetition frequencies of 2 and 10 Hz. In addition, higher duty cycles (5%, 10%, and 15%) and longer sonication durations (40, 80, and 120 s) were associated with longer duration of increased MEP amplitudes. Resting motor threshold remained stable in all conditions. For paired-pulse TMS measures, tbTUS reduced short-interval intracortical inhibition and enhanced short-interval intracortical facilitation, but had no effect on intracortical facilitation. Conclusions: Ultrasound bursts repeated at theta (∼5 Hz) frequency is optimal to produce increased cortical excitability with the range of 2–10 Hz. Furthermore, there was a dose-response effect regarding duty cycle and sonication duration in tbTUS for plasticity induction. The aftereffects of tbTUS were associated with a shift of the inhibition/excitation balance toward less inhibition and more excitation in the motor cortex. These findings can be used to determine the optimal tbTUS parameters in neuroscience research and treatment of neurological and psychiatric disorders.

Effective tissue repair relies on the orchestration of different macrophage phenotypes, both the M2 phenotype (promotes tissue repair) and M1 phenotype (pro-inflammatory) deserve attention. In this study, we propose a sequential immune activation strategy to mediate bone regeneration, by loading lipopolysaccharide (LPS) onto the surface of a strontium (Sr) ions -contained composite scaffold, which was fabricated by combining Sr-doped micro/nano-hydroxyapatite (HA) and dual degradable matrices of polycaprolactone (PCL) and poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA). Our strategy involves the sequential release of LPS to promote macrophage homing and induce the expression of the pro-inflammatory M1 phenotype, followed by the release of Sr ions to suppress inflammation. In vitro and in vivo experiments demonstrated that, the appropriate pro-inflammatory effects at the initial stage of implantation, along with the anti-inflammatory effects at the later stage, as well as the structural stability of the scaffolds conferred by the composition, can synergistically promote the regeneration and repair of bone defects.

Reducing the complexity of the workflow for historical map vectorization is essential to promote the widespread utilization of historical spatial data. Traditional pixel-wise segmentation followed by vectorization workflows suffer from tedious post-processing steps. To address this challenge, we introduce an innovative pure vector-based workflow. This workflow predicts object contours in vector format by assembling geometric primitives, such as line segments, in the correct order to form closed polygons. Consequently, the need for additional post-processing steps, typically associated with raster-to-vector data conversion, is eliminated. Furthermore, we have curated a publicly available historical map dataset called Sanborn-Vector, which holds significant potential for future research on vector-based historical map processing methods. To address the lack of suitable evaluation metrics for vector-based techniques, we have introduced a novel metric called structural panoptic quality (sPQ). This metric takes into account both the shape and positional accuracy of the vector output. Applying our proposed workflow to detect building instances from Sanborn maps has yielded simplified and intersection-free polygonal representations. We believe that our proposed workflow offers a fresh perspective on vectorizing historical maps, opening up new possibilities in this field.

The random inspection of the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC) is an important policy for practicing “standardizing regulatory behavior and innovating management modes”. This study investigates how CSRC’s random affect capital market information efficiency from the perspective of stock price synchronicity. Using a sample of China’s non-financial A-share firms from 2013 to 2019, we find that random inspections significantly reduced the stock price synchronicity of inspected firms. Random inspections could increase the probability of releasing management earnings forecasts, media coverage and investor attention, and thereby improve information efficiency. Further study finds that the effect of random inspections on stock price synchronicity is stronger for non-state controlled firms, districts with more listed firms, and districts with more transparent government. This study enriches the literature on the consequences of random inspections and extends our knowledge of the relationship between regulatory innovations and the information efficiency of the capital market.

Abstract Background High cardiovascular health (CVH) was associated with lower risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and longer life expectancy. However, whether life years lived without CVD could increase faster than or at least at the same pace as total lifespan remains unknown. We aimed to explore the associations of CVH status with total life expectancy and life years lived with and without CVD among middle-aged and elderly men and women. Methods We included 65,587 participants aged ≥ 45 years from Kailuan study, who were recruited during June 2006 to October 2007. CVH was scored and classified (low [0–49 points], moderate [50–79 points] and high [80–100 points]) with Life’s Essential 8, incorporating evaluations of health behaviors and factors. All-cause mortality and incident non-fatal CVD were recorded from baseline to December 31, 2020. The multi-state life table was adopted to explore the associations of CVH status with total life expectancy and life years lived with and without CVD. Results Six thousand fifty eight cases of incident non-fatal CVD and 10,580 cases of deaths were identified. Men aged 45 years with low, moderate, and high CVH had a life expectancy of 33.0, 36.5 and 38.5 years, of which 7.8 (23.6%), 6.0 (16.3%) and 3.7 years (9.6%) were spent with CVD. For women, the corresponding life expectancy was 36.6, 43.6 and 48.6 years, and the remaining life years lived with CVD were 7.8 (21.3%), 6.0 (13.7%) and 4.5 years (9.3%), respectively. The benefits of high CVH were persistent across lifespan from age 45 to 85 years and consistent when CVH was evaluated with health behaviors and factors alone. Conclusions High CVH compared with low CVH was associated with longer total life expectancy and fewer years spent with CVD, indicating that promoting CVH is of great importance for CVD prevention and healthy ageing in China.

Abstract Background The risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) depended on the magnitude and exposure duration of insulin resistance (IR). This study aimed to investigate the associations of cumulative metabolic score for IR (cumMETS-IR) with incident CVD, and to further explore the modulated effects of time course of METS-IR accumulation. Methods We enrolled 47,270 participants without CVD and underwent three examinations during 2006–2010 from the Kailuan study. CumMETS-IR from 2006 to 2010 were calculated as the mean values of METS-IR between consecutive examinations multiplying by time intervals between visits. Time course of METS-IR accumulation was calculated as the slope of METS-IR versus time. Hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for CVD risk were calculated with multivariable-adjusted Cox regressions. Results During a median follow-up of 10.99 years, we identified 3184 cases of incident CVD. The risk of incident CVD increased with increasing cumMETS-IR (HR, 1.77; 95% CI 1.58–1.98 for the Q4 versus Q1 group), exposure duration (HR, 1.60; 95% CI 1.45–1.77 for 6 years versus 0 years), and cumulative burden (HR, 1.49; 95% CI 1.37–1.61 for burden ≥ 0 versus

Abstract Wolbachia is a genus of maternally inherited endosymbionts that can affect reproduction of their hosts and influence metabolic processes. The pollinator, Valisia javana, is common in the male syconium of the dioecious fig Ficus hirta. Based on a high-quality chromosome-level V. javana genome with PacBio long-read and Illumina short-read sequencing, we discovered a sizeable proportion of Wolbachia sequences and used these to assemble two novel Wolbachia strains belonging to supergroup A. We explored its phylogenetic relationship with described Wolbachia strains based on MLST sequences and the possibility of induction of CI (cytoplasmic incompatibility) in this strain by examining the presence of cif genes known to be responsible for CI in other insects. We also identified mobile genetic elements including prophages and insertion sequences, genes related to biotin synthesis and metabolism. A total of two prophages and 256 insertion sequences were found. The prophage WOjav1 is cryptic (structure incomplete) and WOjav2 is relatively intact. IS5 is the dominant transposon family. At least three pairs of type I cif genes with three copies were found which may cause strong CI although this needs experimental verification; we also considered possible nutritional effects of the Wolbachia by identifying genes related to biotin production, absorption and metabolism. This study provides a resource for further studies of Wolbachia-pollinator-host plant interactions.

Succinic acid (SA), one of the 12 top platform chemicals produced from biomass, is a precursor of various high value-added derivatives. Specially, 1 mol CO2 is assimilated in 1 mol SA biosynthetic route under anaerobic conditions, which helps to achieve carbon reduction goals. In this review, methods for enhanced CO2 fixation in SA production and utilization of waste biomass for SA production are reviewed. Bioelectrochemical and bioreactor coupling systems constructed with off-gas reutilization to capture CO2 more efficiently were highlighted. In addition, the techno-economic analysis and carbon sequestration benefits for the synthesis of bio-based SA from CO2 and waste biomass are analyzed. Finally, a droplet microfluidics-based high-throughput screening technique applied to the future bioproduction of SA is proposed as a promising approach.

Abstract Background The main subtypes of idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (IIMs)—polymyositis (PM) and dermatomyositis (DM)—are often presented as interstitial lung disease (ILD) in clinical practice; therefore, many researchers have combined the three studies into PM/DM with ILD. Methods Using bibliometrics, the research status, progress, and hotspots of PM/DM with ILD between 2000 and 2022 were studied. Literature data on PM/DM with ILD were retrieved from the Web of Science (WoS) database for the research period. Visualization software, including VOSviewer, Pajek, CiteSpace, and Scimago Graphica were used for bibliometric analysis. Results A total of 1555 relevant articles were obtained, and the overall research in this field showed an increasing trend. Regarding contributing countries and venues, Japan published the most articles while Rheumatology was the most prolific journal. Regarding authors, the most published article was by Wang Guochun from Changchun University of Technology in China. Keyword analysis and cocited literature cluster analysis showed that diagnosis, classification, autoantibodies, antibodies, prognosis, complications, and treatment of PM/DM with ILD have been hot topics in this field recently. Moreover, our study shows that anti‐mda5 antibody, mortality, gene 5 antibody, IIMs, double‐blind, and prognostic factors, among others, may be new hot topics. Conclusion This study found that research on PM/DM with ILD has increased over time, and scholars are paying more attention to this field. The development of new drugs for the management, treatment, and prevention of PM/DM with ILD is the primary task of researchers and a direction for future research in this field.
