1. High-frequency fluctuation and EHO-like mode in the H-mode pedestal on the EAST tokamak

Abstract: In the pedestal region of the Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak (EAST) during high confinement mode plasma operations with radio-frequency heating, two distinct fluctuations are observed: high-frequency fluctuations (HFFs) and edge harmonic oscillation-like (EHO-like) modes. The HFFs are characterized by intermittent fluctuations with a broadband frequency range of $1{-}3{\text{ MHz}}$ and a poloidal wave number ( ${k_\theta }$ ) greater than $0.9{\text{ c}}{{\text{m}}^{ - 1}}$ . On the other hand, the EHO-like mode exhibits characteristics similar to magnetohydrodynamics (MHD)-like modes with n = 1−5 and lower poloidal wave numbers ( ${{\text{k}}_{{\theta }}} \unicode{x2A7D} 0.12{\text{ c}}{{\text{m}}^{ - 1}}$ ). During the pedestal establishing phase following the L–H transition, a significant concurrent presence of HFF and EHO-like modes in high-density pedestal regions has been noted. In this phase, the EHO-like mode not only modulates the amplitude of the HFF but also engages in nonlinear interactions. The occurrence of EHO-like mode and HFF is associated with particle transport toward the divertor, though it is notably less than that caused by edge coherent modes. During the inter-edge localized mode (ELM) period, a significant decrease in the ${D_\alpha }$ baseline is observed whenever the low frequency fluctuation (LFF) weakens and the HFF grows, prior to each large ELM. One possible explanation is that the rapid increase of $E \times B$ shear stabilizes the LFF and destabilizes the HFF, which lowers the pedestal transport and enables the further growth of the pedestal until the onset of the ELM.

Abstract: Background: The Global Anticoagulant Registry in the FIELD–Atrial Fibrillation (GARFIELD-AF) is an ongoing prospective noninterventional registry, which is providing important information on the baseline characteristics, treatment patterns, and 1-year outcomes in patients with newly diagnosed non-valvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF). Abstract: A series of Ni-free Zr55Ti3HfxCu32-xAl10 (x = 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 at. %) bulk metallic glasses (BMGs) were developed by copper mold suction-casting. The effect of partially substituting Cu by Hf was investigated in terms of glass-forming ability (GFA), mechanical properties, and corrosion behavior. As a result of the partial substitution, the GFA of Hf-bearing amorphous alloys were significantly enhanced as compared to Zr55Ti3Cu32Al10 BMGs. Hf addition also enlarged the supercooled liquid region from 55 K to 70 K. The critical diameter was found to increase from 4 mm to 8 mm for x = 3. The corresponding compressive yield strength was over 1800 ± 21 MPa with a large plastic strain above 2.60 ± 0.10%. Electrochemical tests indicated that the lowest corrosion current density was 1.6 ± 0.1 × 10−8 A/cm2 for the alloy with x = 5 in H2SO4 solution, thereby yielding a superior corrosion resistance.

Abstract: Silicon (Si)-based solar cells are the main products in current photovoltaics market; therefore, any development in their conversion efficiency and cost effectiveness provides an extremely important contribution to the photovoltaic industry. Use of hyperdoping process for the achievement of Si sub-bandgap light absorption to improve conversion efficiency has attracted significant attention of researchers. However, several problems are encountered during this process such as the poor crystallinity, severe carrier recombination, and high series resistance loss. In this study, a sulfur (S)-hyperdoped Si nanocrystalline layer is prepared on a commercial polycrystalline Si solar cell substrate to efficiently utilize near-infrared (NIR) and visible lights, respectively. An inexpensive, rectangle shaped nanosecond-pulsed laser beam is used to rapidly irradiate Si S Si multilayered films to produce this hyperdoped layer via melting, vaporization, resolidification, and crystallization processes. Abstract: Corrosion behavior of the in-situ Ti-based bulk metallic glass matrix composites (BMGMCs) with a nominal composition of Ti42.3Zr29.1Cu6.6Nb6Be16 was studied in HCl and H2SO4 solutions with different concentrations. Potentiodynamic polarization tests indicated that at the lower solution concentration the corrosion current densities barely changed and their values were in the 10−7 - 10−8order of magnitude. However, corrosion current densities increased as the acid concentrations increased. Additionally, stable passivation films formed in the chloride-free solutions after polarization, but passive film breakdown and pitting corrosion were observed in HCl solution. Furthermore, the selective dissolution occurred in the amorphous matrix. Protective oxide films were enriched with Ti, Zr, and Nb oxides according to the XPS analysis after polarization on the surface. For a comprehensively study on the corrosion resistance of the BMGMCs, there also compared corrosion behavior of the composites with 316 stainless steel, Ti-6Al-4V and Zr-45Ti-5Al-3V alloys. It presents us a new reference value on the application of amorphous composites in their functioning environments.

Abstract: The effect of Nb content on the corrosion behavior of in-situ (Ti0.45Zr0.31Be0.17Cu0.07)100−xNbx (x = 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12) was evaluated in 0.5 mol/L H2SO4, 0.6 mol/L NaCl, and 1 mol/L NaOH solutions. A dual-phase microstructure which composed of an amorphous matrix and dendrites was observed. Electrochemical measurements in each corrosion medium showed the same trend. The corrosion resistance first increased and then decreased with the addition of Nb content from 4 to 12 at.%. The results show the best corrosion resistance in terms of × = 8 for the alloys. Notably, Nb addition improved the pitting-corrosion resistance of samples in a chloride-containing solution, whereas spontaneous passivation occurred in chloride-free solutions. A preferential solution was observed in the amorphous matrix region in NaCl solution, but a part of dark spots and dents appeared on the surface after the polarization in chloride-free solutions. Abstract: In this work, the effects of Ag substitution for Ti in Zr56Cu24Al9Ni7Ti4-xAgx (x = 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4 at%) bulk metallic glasses (BMGs) on the glass-forming ability, thermal stability and mechanical properties are investigated. The present research shows that the critical diameter increases to 6–8 mm for Ag content of x = 2 and 3 at%. Additionally, with increasing in the content of Ag, with a rod diameter of 3 mm, the glass-forming ability and thermal stability were effectively improved. The largest ultimate fracture strength and plastic strain were observed for alloys where x = 2 with a rod diameter in 3 mm (1863 (± 25) MPa and 7.9 (±0.6) %, respectively). Different fracture modes were observed using scan electron microscopy after compressive testing. This work illustrates that Ag can play an important role in improving glass-forming ability, thermal stability and mechanical properties for amorphous alloys.

Abstract: Fast radio bursts (FRBs) are short pulses observed in radio band from cosmological distances, some of which emit repeating bursts. The physical origins of these mysterious events have been subject to wide speculations and heated debates. One class of models invoke soft gamma-ray repeaters (SGRs), or magnetars, as the sources of FRBs. Magnetars are rotating neutron stars with extremely strong magnetic field and can sporadically emit bursts from X-ray (keV) to soft gamma-ray (sub-MeV) with duration from 10􀀀2 s to 102 s. However, even though some bright radio bursts have been observed from some magnetars, no FRB-like events had been detected to be associated with any magnetar burst, including one giant flare, and no radio burst has been associated with any X-ray event from any magnetar. Therefore, there is still no observational evidence for magnetar-FRB association up to today. Recently, a pair of FRB-like bursts (FRB~200428 hereafter) separated by 30 milliseconds (ms) were detected from the general direction of the Galactic magnetar SGR~J1935+2154. Here we report the detection of a non-thermal X-ray burst in the 1--250\,keV energy band with the Insight-HXMT satellite, which we identify as emitted from SGR~J1935+2154. The burst showed two hard peaks with a separation of ms, consistent with the separation between the two bursts in FRB~200428. The delay time between the double radio and X-ray peaks is 8:57s, fully consistent with the dispersion delay of FRB~200428. We thus identify the non-thermal X-ray burst is associated with FRB~200428 whose high energy counterpart is the two hard peaks in X-ray. Our results suggest that the non-thermal X-ray burst and FRB~200428 share the same physical origin in an explosive event from SGR~J1935+2154.

Abstract: We use the In data collected during the 2019 outburst from X-ray pulsar 4U 1901+03 to complement the orbital parameters reported by Fermi/GBM. Using the Insight-HXMT, we examine the correlation between the derivative of the intrinsic spin frequency and bolometric flux based on accretion torque models. It was found that the pulse profiles significantly evolve during the outburst. The existence of two types of the profile's pattern discovered in the Insight-HXMT data indicates that this source experienced transition between a super-critical and a sub-critical accretion regime during its 2019 outburst. Based on the evolution of the pulse profiles and the torque model, we derive the distance to 4U 1901+03 as 12.4+-0.2 kpc., 8 pages, 5 figures, accepted by JHEAP

Abstract: ZrO2 dispersion-strengthened Q345 steel with different ZrO2 contents (0%, 0.5% and 1.2%, mass fraction) was fabricated through combining middle frequency induction furnace melting and cored-wire injection technologies. The microstructure and fracture surface morphology of ZrO2 dispersion-strengthened Q345 steel in casting, normalizing and quenching states were observed using optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. Also, strengthening and fracture mechanisms of the alloys were analyzed. Results showed that the dispersed ZrO2 particles added into Q345 matrix significantly enhanced its strength, and the main strengthening mechanism was the formation of dislocation cells and pinning effect caused by the addition of ZrO2 particles. Apart from that, the hard martensite phase, grain refinement and high ZrO2 particles content also played important roles in strengthening effect. Furthermore, the nanoindentation was also performed to further reveal the strengthening effect and mechanism of dispersed ZrO2 particles in Q345 steel. Results showed that the hardness of ZrO2 dispersion-strengthened Q345 steel increased with the increase of ZrO2 content.

Abstract: The corrosion behaviors of the Ti-based bulk metallic glasses (Zr30.88Ti33.57Cu7Ni5.39Be23.16) as well as the in-situ Ti-based bulk metallic glass matrix composites (Zr28.92Ti42.22Cu6.57Nb6Be16.29) in 0.6 mol/L NaCl, 1 mol/L HCl and 0.5 mol/L H2SO4 solutions were analyzed. The potentiodynamic polarization analyses indicated a drastic increase in the current densities for all specimens in the NaCl and HCl solutions, which could be related to the passive breakdown caused by pitting corrosion. In contrast, no active-passive transition existed in the H2SO4 solution. SEM and EDS analyses were performed to clarify the morphologies and chemical states of the elements prior to and following electrochemical testing. The results demonstrated that both alloys exhibited entirely different corrosion behaviors in the chloride-containing and chloride-free solutions. The surfaces of the samples were locally damaged by a chloride-induced pitting process. Specifically for the composites, a selective dissolution occurred. In contrast, a low portion of corrosion occurred within the chloride-free media. The chemical compositions were identified as the main factor to affect the corrosion performance of the alloys.

Abstract: The effects of deformation and isothermal annealing in supercooled liquid region on the microstructure and room-temperature mechanical properties of the Ti33Zr30Cu9Ni5.5Be22.5 bulk metallic glass were systematically investigated. The results indicated that the thermally-deformed specimens exhibited denser structures and higher characteristic temperatures (Tg and Tx) than the annealed specimens at the corresponding temperature; however, this difference gradually decreased as the experimental temperature increased. Further, the thermally-deformed specimens exhibited higher yield and fracture strengths than the annealed specimens, whereas they exhibited similar plasticity. The deformed and annealed specimens precipitated some nanocrystals with a size of approximately 10 nm when the experimental temperature increased to 648 K, causing the rapid deterioration of their plasticity.

Abstract: Herein, the effect of sub-Tg annealing on microstructure, glass transition kinetics and crystallization behavior of Ti33Zr30Cu9Ni5.5Be22.5 bulk metallic glass (BMG) is systematically studied by high-temperature differential scanning calorimetry. The results reveal that sub-Tg annealing can improve the compactness of Ti33Zr30Cu9Ni5.5Be22.5 BMG and expand the supercooled liquid region. Also, the non-isothermal crystallization behavior indicates that the glass transition activation energy (Eg) of Ti33Zr30Cu9Ni5.5Be22.5 BMG decreases and crystallization activation energy (EP1, EP2) increases after sub-Tg annealing. The changes in Eg, EP1 and EP2 exhibit sensitivity to sub-Tg annealing temperature. It is demonstrated that the isothermal crystallization time of Ti33Zr30Cu9Ni5.5Be22.5 BMG is extended by ≈1 min after 593 K annealing, indicating the inhibition of crystallization process. The Avrami indices of as-cast and sub-Tg-annealed Ti33Zr30Cu9Ni5.5Be22.5 BMGs, calculated by the Johnson-Mehl-Avrami equation, range from 2.08 to 2.30 and indicate that the three-dimensional growth process is mainly controlled by the diffusion, which is not influenced by sub-Tg annealing.

Abstract: Compared to femtosecond-pulsed laser and ion implantation with chemical texturing methods, the nanosecond (ns)-pulsed laser method is inexpensive and efficient for fabricating a microstructured and hyperdoped crystalline silicon surface (usually known as black Si), facilitating the industrial manufacturing of optoelectronic devices. However, the ns-pulsed laser method has been rarely studied in material post-processing and device manufacturing. In this study, a microstructured and sulfur-hyperdoped p -type Si〈100〉 wafer surface was fabricated using a neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (Nd:YAG) ns-pulsed laser irradiation in sulfur hexafluoride gas. The effects of thermal annealing on the morphological, optical (visible and infrared (IR) spectra), and electrical properties of black Si samples were evaluated. The results show that the small particles and protrusions, overlying conical structures of the samples, decreased after the annealing. The light reflectance of the samples in the wavelength range 400–1000 nm decreased by ∼2%, and a high IR absorptance (λ = 1100–2400 nm) was observed. The IR absorptance decreased slowly from 86% to 60% with an annealing time of 30 (or 60) min and temperature increase from 575 K to 800 K (corresponding to the increase in diffusion length of S-dopant from 0.09 nm to 68.63 nm). Furthermore, sheet carrier concentration and resistivity of the black Si samples increased and decreased with increasing S-dopant diffusion length, respectively. The improvements in electrical property indicate that thermal annealing can enhance the activation of S-dopant and electrical rectification of the samples. These are important for developing Si-based broad-spectrum solar cells and IR detectors.

Abstract: This research studied the vacuum tribological properties of annealed Ti-20Zr-6.5Al-4V alloy sliding against AISI 440C steel at various velocities ranging from 0.39 to 1.17 m/s using a ball-on-disc tribometer equipped with a vacuum chamber. The coefficient of friction and wear volumes of the annealed Ti-20Zr-6.5Al-4V alloy were obtained. Results indicated that the coefficient of friction increased at the beginning as the sliding velocity increased to 0.78 m/s and subsequently decreased with further increase in velocity. However, the wear volume increased monotonically with sliding velocity. Scanning electron microscopy was employed to study the wear mechanisms after tribological tests. Under a normal load of 10 N, abrasive wear was predominant at various sliding velocities, whereas the sliding velocity influenced the wear mechanisms significantly when the normal load was increased to 30 N. Under higher normal load, the abrasive wear was indentified as the main wear mechanism at a lower sliding velocity of 0.39 m/s. As the sliding velocity was increased to 1.17 m/s, severer abrasive wear, delamination wear, and plastic deformation were dominant. In addition, at a sliding velocity of 1.17 m/s, the wear mechanisms were abrasive and mild adhesive wear of the TiZrAlV alloy annealed at 1273 K (1000 °C) under the load of 10 N. The mechanism changed to severe plastic deformation and delamination wear when the normal load was increased to 30 N. The three-dimensional topography of the Ti-20Zr-6.5Al-4V disc worn surface was also explored.

Abstract: The dispersion strengthened 16MnV steels with 0.5 wt% and 1.2 wt% ZrO 2 particles were prepared using medium frequency induction melting furnace. The ZrO 2 particles mixed with iron powder were added into the 16MnV steel through cored-wire injection process. Optical metallographic microscope (OM), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and transmission electron microscope (TEM) were used to observe and analyze the microstructure, fracture morphology, dislocation configuration and strengthening mechanism of ZrO 2 particle dispersion strengthened 16MnV steel under as-cast, normalizing and quenching states. Results showed that the strength of 16MnV steel under various states increased significantly after the addition of dispersed ZrO 2 particles. Analysis indicates that the dislocation cell formed by high density dislocation around ZrO 2 particles and attractive interaction between those particles are the main strengthening mechanism of dispersion strengthened 16MnV steel. The tensile test results showed that remarkable strengthening effect of ZrO 2 particle on 16MnV steel has been observed. As the addition of 1.2 wt% ZrO 2 , the improvement of strength in ZrO 2 /16MnV is approximately 37.69% for as-casting, 24.2% after normalization and 29.96% after quenching, respectively. The normalized ZrO 2 /16MnV with 1.2 wt% ZrO 2 has the highest strength of 1453 MPa.

Abstract: The long-term evolution of the centroid energy of the CRSF in Her X-1 is still a mystery. We report a new measurement from a campaign between {\sl Insight}-HXMT and {\sl NuSTAR} performed in February 2018. Generally, the two satellites show well consistent results of timing and spectral properties. The joint spectral analysis confirms that the previously observed long decay phase has ended, and that the line energy instead keeps constant around 37.5 keV after flux correction.

Abstract: Aims We aim to investigate the effect of single dose of statin pretreatment prior to primary Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) on long-term clinical outcomes in patients with ST-elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI). Methods Using data from China Acute myocardial Infarction (CAMI) registry, we compared the outcome in STEMI patients with vs without atorvastation pretreatment prior to primary PCI. The primary endpoint was the composite outcome of all-cause mortality, non-fatal MI or stroke events during follow-up. Propensity-score (PS) matching was used to assemble a cohort of patients with similar baseline characteristics. All patients were followed till 24 months since baseline. Results Of all 3772 patients who met our inclusion criteria at 108 hospitals in China, 3288 patients (1644 patients in each arm) were included in our PS-matched cohort. In the PS-match cohort, overall 144 (8.65%) and 113 (6.79%) patients in the control group and pretreatment group had the primary endpoint respectively (p=0.048). The estimated HRs were 0.78 (95% CI: 0.606–0.997, p=0.046) in the unadjusted model and 0.76 (95% CI: 0.596–0.984, p=0.032) in the adjusted model (Figure). The HRs were broadly similar for the pretreatment dosage of 40 mg or 80 mg (0.78 vs 0.77, p=0.75). The HRs were even stronger in patients with single-vessel only than multi-vessel coronary artery disease (0.31 vs 0.75, p=0.014). Conclusion Among Chinese patients with STEMI, atorvastatin pretreatment before primary PCI may have better long-term composite outcome of all-cause mortality, non-fatal MI, or stroke events. Abstract: In this study, the influence of dendrite size on corrosion behavior of Ti43.2Zr29.8Cu6.7Nb4Be16.3 in 3.5 wt. % NaCl solution was examined. These amorphous matrix composite alloys were found to contain 50 ~ 57 vol. % dendrites with size ranging from 3.21 to 32.28 μm. The electrochemical measurements revealed the corrosion resistance decreased as dendrite size increased. The alloys with the smallest dendrite size and 3 mm diameter exhibited the optimum corrosion resistance with the lowest corrosion current density estimated to 3.6(±0.5) × 10−8 A/cm2. And the corrosion behavior of preferentially dissolves was observed at the position of amorphous matrix. A possible corrosion mechanism associated with the selective dissolution was proposed. X-Ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis revealed formation of different oxides on specimen surfaces, causing discrepancies in corrosion resistance of the alloys. The chemical immersion tests further confirmed the corrosion behaviors. Overall, these data look promising for future new application of BMGMCs.

Abstract: The effect of the replacement of Ni with Ag on the crystallization kinetics and mechanical properties of Zr56Cu24Al9Ni7-xTi4Agx (x = 0, 1, 3, 5, and 7 at.%) metallic glasses were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and microhardness/compressive testing. Proper Ag substitution significantly improved of the glass-forming ability, crystallization activation energy, and mechanical properties of these materials. The critical diameter increased to 6–8 mm for Ag contents of 1, 3, and 5 at.%. The Ag-containing glassy alloys displayed higher crystallization activation energies than their Ag-free counterparts, suggesting that proper substitution hindered crystallization. The specimens of 3 mm in diameter and a Ag content of 1 at.% showed the largest strain under compression (ca. 4.68 ± 0.03%) and fracture strength (up to 1826 ± 31 MPa). A combination of veins and droplets was observed on the compressive fracture surfaces of the alloys. Furthermore, the fracture mechanisms, which enhanced the plasticity of the alloys, were also discussed herein.

This paper considers a multiunit system consisting of the production system, the external electric grid system, the microgrid system including renewable energy system and energy storage system. A multistage stochastic programming model is established to allocate the energy generated by the renewable energy system during a finite horizon considering the uncertainty of the microgrid system due to the varied weather. Since the model is computationally intractable, an algorithm combining the Fibonacci search and the estimation of the second-stage cost is proposed. The numerical results validate the effectiveness of the solution approach.

Abstract: Using an environment-controlled atomic force microscope, the nanowear of silicon against SiO2 microsphere was investigated under various relative humidity (RH) and ethanol partial pressure (Pa/Psat) conditions. When RH was below 10%, there was no discernable wear of the substrate in any Pa/Psat conditions. However, when RH>10%, although the contact pressure (1.3 GPa) was far less than the yield stress of silicon material (7 GPa), the occurrence of tribochemical wear was observed on silicon surface without ethanol adsorption. When ethanol vapor was introduced, the wear of silicon was inhibited fully or partially depending on RH. At RH below 50%, there was a critical ethanol partial pressure above which tribochemical reaction was completely suppressed and no wear was generated on silicon surface. At RH above 50%, the wear of silicon could be significantly reduced, but not completely, with the increase of ethanol partial pressure. Upon addition of ethanol vapor, the frictional energy dissipation decreased and the energy barrier for tribochemical reaction could also become larger. These factors could explain the lubrication effect of the adsorbate ethanol layer in humid environment. The RH and ethanol partial pressure conditions for the lubrication of Si/SiO2 sliding pairs were identified, which can be used for optimizing the MEMS operation conditions without failure due to wear.

Abstract: Tomato yellow leaf curl virus is one of the main diseases affecting tomato production worldwide. Previous studies have shown that Ty-2 is an important resistance gene located between molecular markers C2_At2g28250 (82.3 cM) and T0302 (89.0 cM), and exhibits strong resistance to tomato yellow leaf curl virus in Asia. In this study, Ty-2 candidate genes were subjected to bioinformatic analysis for the sequenced tomato genome. We identified 69 genes between molecular markers C2_At2g28250 and T0302, 22 of which were disease-related resistant genes, including nucleotide binding site-leucine-rich repeat disease resistance genes, protease genes (protein kinase, kinase receptor, and protein isomerase), cytochromes, and transcription factors. Expressed sequence tag analysis revealed that 77.3% (17/22) of candidate disease-resistance genes were expressed, involving 143 expressed sequence tags. Based on full-length cDNA sequence analysis, 7 candidate genes were found, 4 of which were involved in tomato responses to pathogens. Microarray expression analysis also showed that most candidate genes were involved in the tomato responses to multiple pathogens, including fungi, viruses, and bacteria. RNA-seq expression analysis revealed that all candidate genes participated in tomato growth and development.

Abstract: The objective of the present study was to analyze the genetic diversity of tomato yellow leaf curl virus (TYLCV). Representative TYLCV sequences were searched in the National Center for Biotechnology Information database. Comprehensive analysis of TYLCV was performed using bioinformatics by examining gene structure, sequence alignments, phylogeny, GC content, and homology. Forty-eight representative TYLCV sequences were selected from 48 regions in 29 countries. The results showed that all TYLCV sequences were 2752-2794 nucleotides in length, which encoded 6 open reading frames (AV1, AV2, AC1, AC2, AC3, and AC4). GC content ranged from 0.41-0.42. Sequence alignment showed a number of insertions and deletions within these TYLCV sequences. Phylogenetic tree results revealed that the sequences were divided into 10 classes; homology of the sequences ranged from 72.8 to 98.6%. All 48 sequences contained the typical structure of TYLCV, including open reading frames and intergenic regions. These results provide a theoretical basis for the identification and evolution of the virus in the future.

This chapter discusses the engineering decisions. A significant part of wireless sensor research and field work is based on the assumption that people will use very low‐power wireless sensors for infrastructure monitoring. Many industrial and infrastructure processes depend on Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems continuously for their critical missions. It is important to know the amount of time given to provide the needed control; there may be consequences of failing to provide the needed control signal in time. Firstly, formation enthalpies of stable and hypothesized compounds were calculated by flrst-principles method. Then, based on reported experimental information, a thermodynamic description of the Ti-Co-Cu ternary system was performed. Solution phases were treated as substitutional solutions of which excess Gibbs energies were formulated by Redlich-Kister polynomial, and the intermediate phases were described with sublattice models. All measured isothermal sections were reasonably reproduced. In addition, liquidus projection of this ternary system was further calculated, which may be useful for relevant materials processing.

In order to monitor operating performance of contaminated outdoor insulators, a recurrent plot technique is proposed to analyze the leakage current passing through the insulator surface. Contamination tests were conducted in a laboratory by employing heavy salt fog with the deposition of non-soluble contamination. The leakage current was decomposed into different frequency components by using a wavelet transform technique. The temporal sequence of the extracted component was extended to m-dimensional phase space by using a phase-space reconstructed method. The recurrent plot is obtained to show that the topological structure of the high-frequency components is prominent to identify non-linear properties of discharge activities. Based on the analysis of the high-frequency components, the quantitative indicators of recurrent plot are obtained to reflect the underlying mechanism of flashover process. The results obtained indicate that the recurrent plot technique gives visual recurrent patterns of discharge activities for monitoring outdoor insulator performance. The dynamic behaviors on the insulator surface are graphically illustrated on the rectangular block structures with higher density of points. The structure changes indicate the switches of discharge states during the flashover process.

Abstract: While providing potent immunosuppression for liver transplant recipients, calcineurin inhibitors (CNI) exhibit nephrotoxicity as a major side effect. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the safety and efficacy of conversion from CNI to sirolimus (SRL) among liver transplant recipients with CNI-induced chronic nephrotoxicity.Between January 2004 and June 2005, we performed conversion in 16 recipients after a median period of 8.5 months after liver transplantation. The indication for conversion was CNI-related nephrotoxicity with a serum creatinine (sCr) value132.6 umol/L. Renal function was measured before and after conversion to SRL. Clinical and laboratory data related to the clinical course of the patients were recorded to investigate the safety and efficacy of conversion.Sixteen patients were converted to SRL after developing nephrotoxicity. Their renal function improved gradually after conversion. The levels of sCr decreased significantly within the first 30 days (164.1 +/- 12.48 micromol/L to 130.1 +/- 5.573 micromol/L), and over the next 60 days after conversion (97.86 +/- 11.69 micromol/L to 90.7 +/- 8.95 micromol/L) (P.01). Similarly, the mean glomerular filtration rate (GFR) increased significantly during the same period. Four recipients experienced hypercholesterolemia, 1 with ankle edema, and 1 with acute rejection. The median follow-up was 2.4 years. No patient discontinued SRL due to side effects. No patient needed dialysis or kidney transplantation during the study period.SRL is a safe, effective replacement agent as primary immunosuppressive therapy following withdrawal of CNIs in liver transplant recipients with CNI-induced chronic nephrotoxicity.

Abstract: The study develops a methodology that combines the vibration failure test, finite element analysis (FEA), and theoretical formulation for the calculation of the electronic component’s fatigue life under vibration loading. A specially designed plastic ball grid array (PBGA) component with built-in daisy chain circuits is mounted on a printed wiring board (PWB) as the test vehicle for the vibration test. It is then excited by a sinusoidal vibration whose frequency equals the fundamental frequency of the test vehicle and tested until the component fails. Because the solder balls are too small for direct measurement of their stresses, FEA is used for obtaining the stresses instead. Thus, the real displacements in the vibration test are then inputted to the FEA model when performing the stress analysis. Consequently, the stress versus failure cycles ( S – N ) curve is constructed by correlating both the obtained stresses on the solder balls and the number of failure cycles in the vibration test. Furthermore, the Miner’s rule is applied in calculating the fatigue damage index for those test components when failed. Finally, a formula for the prediction of the component failure cycle is deduced from all these procedures studied. It is also examined later by firstly predicting the fatigue failure cycle of a component and then conducting a vibration test for the same component for the verification purposes. The field test results have proven to be consistent with predicted results. It is then believed that the methodology is effective in predicting component’s life and may be applied further in improving the reliability of electronic systems.

Abstract: The WRKY family is one of the most important transcription factor families in plants, involved in the regulation of a broad range of biological roles. The recent releases of whole-genome sequences of pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) allow us to perform a genome-wide identification and characterization of the WRKY family. In this study, 61 CaWRKY proteins were identified in the pepper genome. Based on protein structural and phylogenetic analyses, these proteins were classified into four main groups (I, II, III, and NG), and Group II was further divided into five subgroups (IIa to IIe). Chromosome mapping analysis indicated that CaWRKY genes are distributed across all 12 chromosomes, although the location of four CaWRKYs (CaWRKY58-CaWRKY61) could not be identified. Two pairs of CaWRKYs located on chromosome 01 appear to be tandem duplications. Furthermore, the phylogenetic tree showed a close evolutionary relationship of WRKYs in three species from Solanaceae. In conclusion, this comprehensive analysis of CaWRKYs will provide rich resources for further functional studies in pepper.

Abstract: Properties of photoconductive ultraviolet detectors fabricated on ZnO films were presented. Highly c-axis oriented ZnO films were grown on glass substrates by pulsed laser deposition. Ultraviolet photodetectors were fabricated based on metal–semiconductor–metal planar structures. The photoresponsivity and the quantum efficiency are much higher in the ultraviolet range than in the visible range, and the peak values are around 360 nm. Photocurrent transients show that the detector has a large photocurrent with the peak value of 2.8 mA, and a slow photoresponse with a rise time of 5 min and a decay time of 7 min. The response curve of the detector is fitted well with exponential curve. The large photocurrent should result from the both effects of the accumulation of conduction electrons and the decrease of the barrier height between crystallites. The relaxation time constant τ obtained from the curve fitting represents the time accumulation during the process. The neutralization of photogenerated holes by negatively charged oxygen ions plays a key role in the photoconductive characteristics of ZnO polycrystalline films.

Abstract: CdS, PbS and CuS nanoparticles have been synthesized by a simple polyol route, involving the reaction of metal salts with elemental sulfur in ethylene glycol at moderate temperature (70–80 °C). Powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) are used to characterize these nanoparticles. In this reaction, thioglycerol (TG) not only acts as the capping agent of the produced metal sulfides nanoparticles but also remarkably improves the reactivity of elemental sulfur in the synthesis of these metal sulfide nanoparticles.
