The aim of the study is to determine the extent to which the root values were included in the middle school mathematics textbooks that were recommended in the 2018 middle school mathematics curriculum by Ministry of National Education (MoNE). In this study, mathematics textbooks were assumed to be an important material in terms of development of students' intention to use root values. The data were collected from ten mathematics textbooks, including two fifth grade, three sixth grade, two seventh grade, and three eighth grades, recommended by MoNE for use in middle schools in the 2019-2020 academic year. A basic qualitative research design was used in the study. To analyze the data a content analysis process was implemented. As a result, it was found that while the values of friendship, self-control, responsibility, patriotism, and benevolence were used in the textbooks in detail and with their first meanings, there was not enough content about the values of justice, honesty, respect, and love and these values were being used differently from their first meanings. It is recommended that the content involving root values should be distributed more homogeneously to the grade levels and values should be used with their first meaning in mathematics textbooks. In addition, there should be more specific information in mathematics textbooks about how to integrate root values into a mathematics classroom.

Aim: To investigate the placental cysts in every aspect and evaluate associations with fetal anomalies, fetal growth, accompanying maternal diseases, and obstetric outcomes. Materials and Methods: The presented cohort study was conducted with twenty pregnant women diagnosed with placental cysts. Maternal age, obstetrical histories, maternal diseases, ultrasonographic characteristics of cysts, additional ultrasound findings, and fetal anomalies were recorded at the time of diagnosis and each examination. Pregnancy outcomes; birth weight, gestational age at birth, APGAR scores, neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) admissions, amniotic fluid disorders, and fetal growth restriction (FGR) were recorded for all participants. Data were evaluated according to diagnosis time, size of the cyst at diagnosis and at birth, fetal anomalies, and obstetric outcomes. Results: All cysts were single. Five of them increased in size with follow-ups. The mean follow-up duration was 12 weeks. There were 9 FGR (64.3%). Six of the FGR patients had cyst sizes >5 cm. There were eight fetal anomalies; 5 were heart-associated, and 3 had a single umbilical artery. The frequency of C/S in delivered patients was 78%, and preterm delivery was 35.7%. Conclusion: The presented study showed that placental cysts have clinical importance due to their potential risk for FGR and accompanying fetal anomalies. Appropriate patient follow-ups for cyst size enlargements and anomaly screening, especially for cardiac evaluation, might be important for placental cyst management. Also, uterine artery Doppler measurements and prophylactic acetylsalicylic acid use might be under consideration. However, the clinical utility of uterine Doppler examination and prophylactic use of acetylsalicylic acid needs further studies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: Epilepsy is a neurological disorder characterized by recurrent seizures, exhibiting variance in prevalence and treatment availability across diverse geopolitical contexts and cultural milieus. The stigma associated with epilepsy is a significant global issue affecting the quality of life (QOL) of people with epilepsy (PWE). This study aims to examine the relationship between self‐stigma and depressive symptoms in PWE, with a particular emphasis on understanding the manifestations of these across different cultural contexts. We aim to enhance the provision of customized care to diverse cultural settings, fostering the adoption of healthier lifestyles for PWE. Methods: We recruited PWE who received treatment at specialized medical facilities for epilepsy in Japan, Malaysia (Chinese, Malay), and Turkey from February to October 2023. The Epilepsy Self‐Stigma Scales (ESSS), Neurological Disorders Depression Inventory for Epilepsy (NDDI‐E), and Generalized Anxiety Disorder 7 (GAD‐7) in local languages were used to assess self‐stigma, depressive symptoms, and anxiety. Results: The ESSS total scores were significantly higher among the Turkish and Japanese cohorts (F [3, 406] = 6.57, p < 0.001, η2 = 0.05). In addition, the self‐stigma observed moderate positive correlations for depressive symptoms (rs = 0.41–0.50, Ps < 0.001) and anxiety (rs = 0.42–0.44, Ps < 0.001). The ANCOVA findings suggested that the notable variations in self‐stigma, as found in the one‐way ANOVA conducted across four cultures, were reduced when taking into consideration depressed symptoms. Our finding highlights the potential influence of mental health factors over cultural factors concerning self‐stigma. Significance: The manifestation of self‐stigmatization within epilepsy exhibits distinctions across diverse cultural cohorts, regardless of the demographic and clinical variation, yet demonstrates a significant correlation with psychological factors. In subsequent research endeavors, we should comprehensively investigate these subtle differences, their potential impact on patient care, and the development of supportive approaches. Plain Language Summary: This cross‐cultural study reveals significant variations in self‐stigma among people with epilepsy across different cultural contexts, with Turkish and Japanese cohorts showing higher levels. Self‐stigma demonstrated moderate positive correlations with depressive symptoms and anxiety across all cultures. Notably, differences in self‐stigma were reduced when accounting for depressive symptoms, suggesting that mental health factors may have a stronger influence than cultural factors. Background: Obesity, which is an important public healthcare issue, can affect women's physical, mental, social health, stress level, and coping negatively. The health professionals must help women cope with the problems they may experience as a result of obesity to reduce these negative effects. Aim: The study was conducted to determine the effects of stress management training provided to obese women on eating attitudes, stress, and coping with stress. Methodology: The sampling of the randomized controlled experimental study based on the pre-test and post-test model consisted of 70 women (experimental=35; control=35) with a Body Mass Index ≥30, who applied to a Community Health Center Obesity Unit in primary care in Turkey. The data were by using Personal Information Form, Perceived Stress Scale, Styles of Coping with Stress Scale, Dutch Eating Behavior Questionnaire, and height-weight measurements (Body Mass Index). Results: Statistically significant differences were detected between the women in the experimental and control groups after the training, the Body Mass Index, between the self-confidence, optimistic and social support-seeking approach from the sub-dimensions of Styles of Coping with Stress Scale, and between the extrinsic and restrictive eating behaviors, which are the sub-dimensions of the Dutch Eating Behavior Questionnaire (p<0.05). Conclusion: The training provided was found to be effective in reducing the Body Mass Index and extrinsic eating behaviors, increasing the restrictive eating behavior, and use of more positive ways in coping with stress. Objective: To evaluate System Inflammation Response Index (SIRI) and Systemic Immune Inflammation Index (SII), which are the inflammatory indices, for the prediction of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) in the first trimester. Methods: This was a prospective observational study conducted in a tertiary center from April 2023 to September 2023. Ninety‐four pregnant women with gestational diabetes and 107 healthy pregnant women were included. The two groups were compared according to first‐trimester SIRI and SII values. A receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was performed to determine the optimal cut‐off levels of SII and SIRI in predicting GDM. Results: Significantly higher first‐trimester SII and SIRI values were present in the gestational diabetes group (P < 0.001). Optimal cut‐off values in the prediction of gestational diabetes were found to be 1.58 (area under the curve [AUC] 0.71, 67% sensitivity, 65% specificity, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.64–0.78, P < 0.001) and 875 (AUC 0.70, 66% sensitivity, 65% specificity, 95% CI 0.63–0.77, P < 0.001) for SIRI and SII, respectively. Neutrophil counts, mean platelet volume (MPW), neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR), and red cell distribution width (RDW) were significantly higher in the GDM group (P < 0.001, P = 0.02, P = 0.01, P < 0.01, respectively). Conclusion: Novel inflammatory indices SII and SIRI may be useful in the prediction of GDM in the first trimester, but their utility in the prediction of insulin requirement is questionable. They may be used as additional tools in routine clinical practice. Hubris syndrome is defined as a managerial disease caused by the power possessed by people in managerial positions, which results in positive and negative outcomes in organizations. For this purpose, the banking sector was chosen as the research area because it is one of the areas where hubris syndrome can most commonly be seen due to the known characteristics of the sector such as tough working conditions and working goals. Data were obtained via interviews conducted with 12 managers working in the field of banking with a semi-structured interview form using the phenomenology experience research pattern, which is one of the qualitative research models. Maxqda 2022 data analysis software was used for data analysis. The study results, according to data received from managers, revealed that the characteristics of people suffering from hubris syndrome are seeing oneself as perfect and superior, believing that anything can be done with authority, the topical goals given to lower-level employees and disregarding the opinions of others. The reasons for the emergence of the syndrome are problems in the institutional structure and functioning, bullying and exclusion experienced in the past, and the lack of clarity about the authority and responsibilities of people within the organization. When the organizational impacts of Hubris syndrome are taken into account, two types of impacts are observed, the impacts on the organization and the impacts on the employees. People with hubris syndrome harm the organization, prevent the emergence of new ideas, and decrease the motivation of employees. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objectives: To investigate whether fetal cardiac function is affected by underlying heart disease in pregnant women. Methods: A total of 100 pregnant women who were ≥34 gestational weeks were included in the study, 40 in the maternal heart disease (MHD) group diagnosed with heart disease and 60 in the control group. All cardiac diseases in pregnant women were diagnosed preconceptionally and categorized according to the New York Heart Association (NYHA) classification system. Fetal cardiac functions of study groups were evaluated by M‐mode, color tissue Doppler imaging (c‐TDI), and pulsed wave Doppler. Results: Tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion and myocardial performance index (MPI) values were significantly higher and isovolumetric relaxation time was prolonged in the MHD group. The MPI value was found higher in MHD group with NYHA Class II compared to those with NYHA Class I. No significant change in any of the fetal tricuspid annular peak velocity values measured by c‐TDI in the MHD group. There were no differences in fetal cardiac functions and perinatal outcomes between pregnant women with acquired and congenital heart diseases. Patients in NYHA Class II had lower birth weight, 1st and 5th minute APGAR scores, and higher neonatal intensive care unit admission rates. Conclusions: Underlying heart diseases in pregnant women can cause alterations in the systolic and diastolic function of the fetal heart. High fetal MPI values detected in cardiac patients may indicate that cardiac pathologies during pregnancy affect fetal cardiac globular myocardial function. Cardiac pathologies that progress with restricted physical activity may cause changes in fetal cardiac function and may be associated with adverse perinatal outcomes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
