- Abstract
Abdülhamid’in dinî politikasına mütekabiliyeti değerlendirilmektir. Having a long history of presence in Istanbul, Iranians have appeared as a _x000D_ strong community commercially and culturally from the second half of the _x000D_ $19^{th}$ century onwards. Institutionalization of the Iranian community in _x000D_ diverse fields like education and health effected on their religious life and _x000D_ brought out the construction process of a social identity simply based on the religion/sect. One of the most visible features of the Shi‘ī identity was the _x000D_ beginning to perform “Azādārī ceremonies” that take place publicly during _x000D_ the first ten days of the month of Muharram. This study deals in detail with _x000D_ the attempt of the Iranian community in Istanbul to build a “Takya _x000D_ Ḥosayniya”; “a temple for Azādārī”. This attempt that begins with the _x000D_ foundation of a council and aid fund for finance at the end of the year _x000D_ 1296/1879, is examined through the periodicals, memoires and travelogues _x000D_ published by the Iranian community in addition to the Ottoman archival _x000D_ documents. It aims to evaluate the meaning of this and other attempts of the _x000D_ Iranian community for the construction of a religious identity on the one _x000D_ hand and hand its accordance with Sultan Abdulhamid II’s religious policy _x000D_ on the other. Also it discusses the influence of the relationship between the _x000D_ Sultan and the Iranian ambassador of the time; Mu‘īn al-Mulk on this _x000D_ attempt.

The era of Mamlūk rule that lasted for two and a half centuries (1250-1517) over Egypt, Bilād al-Shām and Hijaz regions represents a new phase in the Islamic scholarly tradition, differentiating from it’s predecessor in various aspects. In regard to the sīra field, it is also estimated that some important developments must have happened. Nevertheless, such claims have remained unattested up until now. Thus, it requires substantiating with a thorough examination of scholars and their texts and developments in all dimensions related to the subjects of sīra. Pretending to be an introduction to the historiography of sīra during the Mamlūk era, this study firstly examines an established list of sīra works written in this period in terms of contents, methods, and subjects put forward by scholars. Secondly, it discusses some controversies on sīra subjects and texts compiled because of these controversies. Finally, it tries to emphasize the source value of treatises and fatwa compilations for the historiography of sīra since treatises were written by scholars to defend their views in the scholarly debates and fatwa compilations depict the transmission of religious knowledge produced within scholarly circles to social practices., İki buçuk asrı aşkın bir zaman dilimi boyunca Mısır, Bilad-ı Şam ve Hicaz bölgelerinde hüküm süren Memlükler dönemi (1250-1517), İslâmî ilimlerin her alanında önemli gelişmelerin yaşandığı bir dönemdir.

Istanbul became one of the most important centers of publication in Persian during the 19th century. This situation emerged with the publications of Ajam/Persian printing houses as one of the essential actors of the Ottoman printing history. Furthermore, the Iranians residing in Istanbul, who supported these publications intellectually and financially, had a significant impact on it. Hence this study focuses on the transformation of Istanbul into a center in terms of the publication in Persian and examines one of the most significant names in this field, Muhammad Tāhir Tabrīzī and his printing house of Akhtar. This study first provides a general evaluation of the bookstores and printers owned by Iranian subjects based in Istanbul. Then, with a particular attention to the publications in the Persian language, it focuses on the publishing career of Muhammad Tāhir Tabrīzī and his printing house of Akhtar. In this context, alongside the newspaper Akhtar published for twenty years, Persian grammar books and textbooks, the classics of Persian literature and the scientific and intellectual works that were crucial for Iranian modernization are evaluated [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Shi'i religious life in İstanbul has usually been narrated only through the 'azādārī (mourning) ceremonies held during the first ten days of Muharram, a situation that reflects the sources available. Thus, apart from these ceremonies with their somewhat institutionalized character, the religious and sectarian realities of individuals' daily lives have not yet been studied. In this paper, a previously unused source will be examined in detail and its contents evaluated exhaustively. The source in question is a hajj travelogue written by Raīs al-Zākirīn, a Shi'i pilgrim from Mashhad and raw'a-khwān who recites excerpts from works on the martyrs of the Shi'i Imams such as the Raw'at al-Shuhadā' of Husain Wā'iz al-Kāshifī (d. 910/1504). al-Zākirīn's travelogue is significant as the author stayed in Istanbul for 40 days during the Ramadan of the year (21 Sha'bān-3 Shawwāl 1319/3 December 1901-13 January 1902) in company with the city's Shi'i community, presenting religious services in the masjid of Vālidah Khān and in the houses of merchants to which he was invited. The travelogue includes daily entries and, while not complete, the section pertaining to Istanbul is similar to a Ramadan diary and records all the prayers and services the author attended each day. It is thus very rich in detail about Shi'i religious life. This paper also aims to elucidate the relationship between the Shi'i community in Istanbul and Iran with respect to religious life. Hz. Peygamber’in (sav) hayatı asırlar boyunca farklı usullerle çeşitli telif türlerinin konusu oldu. Halen Boston University, Department of Religion’da öğretim üyesi olan ve İslam Hukuku, kadın ve cinsiyet, etik ve biyografi üzerine çalışan Kecia Ali, Sexual Ethics and Islam: Feminist Reflections on Qur’an, Hadith, and Jurisprudence (2006), Marriage and Slavery in Early Islam (2010) isimli eserleriyle tanınmaktadır.
