Beams might be subjected to impact loading which is a particular type of dynamic loading during their service lives. In this study the behaviour of beams under low speed impact loading has been investigated analytically. Simply supported and fixed ended beams have been analyzed with the assumption of rigid plastic behaviour. The collapse mechanism has been assumed to emerge by the instant formation of plastic hinges, hence, a limit analysis has been performed under dynamic loading considering the conservation principles of energy and momentum. The behaviour of rigid plastic beams under impact loading has been compared to the behaviour of elastic beams under similar loading conditions.

Dinamik bir yükleme çeşidi olan çarpma yükü yapılarda önemli sorunlara neden olabilmektedir. Bu yüzden yapı elemanlarının çarpma etkisi altındaki davranışı iyi bilinmesi gereken bir konudur. Bu amaçla, bu tez çalışmasında önemli bir yapı elemanı olan betonarme kirişlerin düşük hızlı darbe yükleri altındaki davranışı analitik ve deneysel olarak incelenmiş ve ayrıca bir sonlu elemanlar programı kullanılarak nümerik analizler yapılmıştır. Analitik çalışma bölümünde; açıklıklarının ortasına bir ağırlığın düşürüldüğü basit mesnetli kirişlerin, hem `rijit plastik cisim` davranışı yaptığı hem de `elastik cisim` davranışı yaptığı durumlar için ayrı ayrı enerji sönümleme oranları türetilmiş ve karşılaştırılmıştır. Ayrıca `rijit plastik cisim` davranışı yapan iki ucu basit mesnetli kirişler ile iki ucu ankastre mesnetli kirişlerin çarpışmada oluşan dönme açıları analitik olarak formüle edilmiştir. Deneysel çalışma bölümünde 4 adet özdeş betonarme kiriş `Serbest Ağırlık Düşürme Deney Düzeneğinde` test edilmiştir. Kirişlerin boyları 750 mm ve kesit ölçüleri 50x50 mm'dir. Değerlendirmeler ivme-zaman grafikleri, maksimum yük ve maksimum deplasman değerleri bakımından yapılmıştır. Nümerik çalışma bölümünde; deneysel çalışmada yapılan deneyler bir sonlu elemanlar programı ile bilgisayar ortamında modellenmiş ve sayısal analizler yapılmıştır. Sonuçlar özetlenecek olursa: 1)Çarpma deneylerinde, analitik çalışma ile uyumlu sonuçlar elde edilmiştir. 2) Deneylerde çarpışma ile birlikte rijit plastik kiriş davranışının ortaya çıktığı ve plastik göçme mekanizmasının gerçekleştiği görülmüştür. 3) Sonlu elemanlar programı ile yapılan analizler, deneylerle ivme, deplasman ve çatlak gelişimi bakımından oldukça uyumlu sonuçlar vermiştir. Impact loads which constitute a specific type of dynamic loads, can cause significant damage on structures. For that reason `behaviour of structural members under impact loads`is an issue which must be well known. With this aim, in this doctoral thesis the behaviour of reinforced concrete beams, under low velocity impact loads was investigated analitically and experimentally and also numerical analyses were done by using a finite element program. In the analytic part of the work; Energy dissipation ratios corresponding to both rigid plastic and elastic simply supported beams were derived for impact loading at the midspan, hence, the results were compared. Midspan rotation angles for rigid plastic simply supported and fixed ended beams were analytically formulated. In the experimental work; 4 identical reinforced concrete beams were tested on `Free falling- weight test set up`. The assesments were conducted in terms of acceleration time histories, maximum peak load and maximum deflection values. In numerical work; the experiments were modeled by using a finite element program and numerical analyses were done. Consistent results were obtained from experimental work and the analytical work. The emergence of rigid plastic behaviour followed by a plastic collapse in beams was observed during the experiments. Numerical analyses done by using a finite element program yielded consistent results with the experiments in terms of acceleration, deflection and crack development. 138

The behavior of RC beams with regular web openings subjected to monotonic loading is investigated experimentally. Thus, six beams with regular triangular or regular circular big openings and three reference beams without openings are tested. The test parameters are chosen as the geometries of the openings and the reinforcement ratios at the tension zone. The test results show that beams with low reinforcement or normally reinforced at the tension zone behave in a sufficiently ductile manner. A general observation is that, beams having circular openings yielded better results than the beams with triangular web openings.

Bu çalışmada kapsamında düzenli gövde boşlukları bulunan betonarme kirişlerin tekdüze yükler altındaki davranışı araştırılmıştır. Bunun için gövdesinde dairesel veya üçgen geometrisinde düzenli büyük boşluklar bulunan altı adet kiriş ile bu kirişlere referans olarak boşluksuz üç adet kiriş test edilmiştir. Deney parametreleri, boşluk geometrisi ve çekme bölgesindeki donatı oranı olarak seçilmiştir. Deneysel çalışmanın sonunda az ve olağan çekme donatısına sahip kirişlerin yeterli bir dayanım ve süneklik gösterdiği görülmüştür. Genel olarak dairesel boşluklu kirişler, üçgen boşluklu kirişlere göre daha iyi sonuçlar vermiştir.
