The growing popularity of Electric Vehicles (EVs) poses unique challenges for grid operators and infrastructure, which requires effectively managing these vehicles' integration into the grid. Identification of EVs charging is essential to electricity Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) for better planning and managing the distribution grid. One critical aspect is the ability to accurately identify the presence of EV charging in the grid. EV charging identification using smart meter readings obtained from behind-the-meter devices is a challenging task that enables effective managing the integration of EVs into the existing power grid. Different from the existing supervised models that require addressing the imbalance problem caused by EVs and non-EVs data, we propose a novel unsupervised memory-based transformer (M-TR) that can run in real-time (online) to detect EVs charging from a streaming smart meter. It dynamically leverages coarse-scale historical information using an M-TR encoder from an extended global temporal window, in conjunction with an M-TR decoder that concentrates on a limited time frame, local window, aiming to capture the fine-scale characteristics of the smart meter data. The M-TR is based on an anomaly detection technique that does not require any prior knowledge about EVs charging profiles, nor it does only require real power consumption data of non-EV users. In addition, the proposed model leverages the power of transfer learning. The M-TR is compared with different state-of-the-art methods and performs better than other unsupervised learning models. The model can run with an excellent execution time of 1.2 sec. for 1-minute smart recordings.

This paper proposes arbitrary-order distributed finite-time differentiator (AODFD) for leader-follower multi-agent systems (MAS) under directed graph by only using relative or absolute output information. By using arbitrary-order distributed finite-time differentiator via relative output information (AODFD-R), each follower agent can obtain the relative output information between itself and leader and the relative output's arbitrary-order derivatives, where the information to be measured is only the local relative output information between each follower agent and its neighboring agents. As a simple extension of AODFD-R, the arbitrary-order distributed finite-time differentiator via absolute output information (AODFD-A) is also given. The finite-time stability of the closed-loop system under AODFD is proved by constructing a Lyapunov function skillfully. Identifying the most influential driver nodes to guarantee the fastest synchronization speed is a key topic in pinning control of multi-agent systems. This paper develops a methodology to find the most influential pinning nodes under time-varying topologies. First, we provide the pinning control synchronization conditions of multi-agent systems. Second, a method is proposed to identify the best driver nodes that can guarantee the fastest synchronization speed under periodically switched systems. We show that the determination of the best driver nodes is independent of the system matrix under certain conditions. Finally, we develop a method to estimate the switching frequency threshold that can make the selected best driver nodes remain the same as the average system. Numerical simulations reveal the feasibility of these methods.

The increasing installation of Photovoltaics (PV) cells leads to more generation of renewable energy sources (RES), but results in increased uncertainties of energy scheduling. Predicting PV power generation is important for energy management and dispatch optimization in smart grid. However, the PV power generation data is often collected across different types of customers (e.g., residential, agricultural, industrial, and commercial) while the customer information is always de-identified. This often results in a forecasting model trained with all PV power generation data, allowing the predictor to learn various patterns through intra-model self-learning, instead of constructing a separate predictor for each customer type. In this paper, we propose a clustering-based multitasking deep neural network (CM-DNN) framework for PV power generation prediction. K-means is applied to cluster the data into different customer types. For each type, a deep neural network (DNN) is employed and trained until the accuracy cannot be improved. Subsequently, for a specified customer type (i.e., the target task), inter-model knowledge transfer is conducted to enhance its training accuracy. During this process, source task selection is designed to choose the optimal subset of tasks (excluding the target customer), and each selected source task uses a coefficient to determine the amount of DNN model knowledge (weights and biases) transferred to the aimed prediction task. The proposed CM-DNN is tested on a real-world PV power generation dataset and its superiority is demonstrated by comparing the prediction performance on training the dataset with a single model without clustering.

This paper proposes an extended zero-gradient-sum (EZGS) approach for solving constrained distributed optimization (DO) with free initialization. A Newton-based continuous-time algorithm (CTA) is first designed for general constrained optimization and then extended to solve constrained DO based on the EZGS method. It is shown that for typical consensus protocols, the EZGS CTA can achieve the performance with exponential/finite/fixed/prescribed-time convergence. Particularly, the nonlinear consensus protocols for finite-time EZGS algorithms can have heterogeneous power coefficients. The prescribed-time EZGS dynamics is continuous and uniformly bounded, which can achieve the optimal solution in one stage. Moreover, the barrier method is employed to tackle the inequality constraints. This paper focuses on finite-time (FT) convergent distributed algorithms for solving time-varying (TV) distributed optimization (TVDO). The objective is to minimize the sum of local TV cost functions subject to the possible TV constraints by the coordination of multiple agents in finite time. Specifically, two classes of TVDO are investigated included unconstrained distributed consensus optimization and distributed optimal resource allocation problems (DORAP) with both TV cost functions and coupled equation constraints. For the previous one, based on non-smooth analysis, a continuous-time distributed discontinuous dynamics with FT convergence is proposed based on an extended zero-gradient-sum method with a local auxiliary subsystem. Then, an FT convergent distributed dynamics is further obtained for TV-DORAP by dual transformation. Particularly, the inversion of the cost functions' Hessians is not required in the dual variables' dynamics, while another local optimization needs to be solved to obtain the primal variable at each time instant. Finally, two numerical examples are conducted to verify the proposed algorithms.

Recently network embedding has gained increasing attention due to its advantages in facilitating network computation tasks such as link prediction, node classification and node clustering. The objective of network embedding is to represent network nodes in a low-dimensional vector space while retaining as much information as possible from the original network including structural, relational, and semantic information. However, asymmetric nature of directed networks poses many challenges as how to best preserve edge directions in the embedding process. Here, we propose a novel deep asymmetric attributed network embedding model based on convolutional graph neural network, called AAGCN. The main idea is to maximally preserve the asymmetric proximity and asymmetric similarity of directed attributed networks. AAGCN introduces two neighbourhood feature aggregation schemes to separately aggregate the features of a node with the features of its in- and out- neighbours. Then, it learns two embedding vectors for each node, one source embedding vector and one target embedding vector. The final representations are the results of concatenating source and target embedding vectors. We test the performance of AAGCN on three real-world networks for network reconstruction, link prediction, node classification and visualization tasks. The increased uptake of electric vehicles (EVs) leads to increased demand for electricity, and sometimes pressure on power grids. Uncoordinated charging of EVs may result in stress on distribution networks, and often some form of optimization is required in the charging process. Optimal coordinated charging is a multi-objective optimization problem (MOOP) in nature, with objective functions such as minimum price charging and minimum disruptions to the grid. In this manuscript, we propose a general multi-objective EV charging/discharging schedule (MOEVCS) framework, where the time of use (TOU) tariff is designed according to the load request at each time stamp. To obtain the optimal scheduling scheme and balance the competing benefits from different stakeholders, such as EV owners, EV charging stations (EVCS), and the grid operator, we design three competing objective functions including EV owner cost, EVCS profit, and the network impact. Moreover, we create four application scenarios with different charging request distributions over the investigated periods. Due to different types of decision variables in this MOOP, we develop a constraint mixed-variable multi-objective evolutionary algorithm (MVMOEA) to implement the proposed MOEVCS framework. Our results demonstrate the effectiveness of MOEVCS in making a balance between three competing objectives.

In this paper, both the fixed-time distributed consensus tracking and the fixed-time distributed average tracking problems for double-integrator-type multi-agent systems with bounded input disturbances are studied, respectively. Firstly, a new practical robust fixed-time sliding mode control method based on the time-based generator is proposed. Secondly, a fixed-time distributed consensus tracking observer for double-integrator-type multi-agent systems is designed to estimate the state disagreements between the leader and the followers under undirected and directed communication, respectively. Thirdly, a fixed-time distributed average tracking observer for double-integrator-type multi-agent systems is designed to measure the average value of reference signals under undirected communication. Note that both the observers for the distributed consensus tracking and the distributed average tracking are devised based on time-based generators and can be extended to that of high-order multi-agent systems trivially. Furthermore, by combing the fixed-time sliding mode control with the fixed-time observers, the fixed-time controllers are designed to solve the distributed consensus tracking and the distributed average tracking problems. Smart meters have currently attracted attention because of their high efficiency and throughput performance. They transmit a massive volume of continuously collected waveform readings (e.g. monitoring). Although many compression models are proposed, the unexpected size of these compressed streams required endless storage and management space which poses a unique challenge. Therefore, this paper explores the question of can the compressed smart meter readings be re-compressed? We first investigate the applicability of re-applying general compression algorithms directly on compressed streams. The results were poor due to the lack of redundancy. We further propose a novel technique to enhance the theoretical entropy and exploit that to re-compress. This is successfully achieved by using unsupervised learning as a similarity measurement to cluster the compressed streams into subgroups. The streams in every subgroup have been interleaved, followed by the first derivative to minimize the values and increase the redundancy. After that, two rotation steps have been applied to rearrange the readings in a more consecutive format before applying a developed dynamic run length. Finally, entropy coding is performed. Both mathematical and empirical experiments proved the significant improvement of the compressed streams entropy (i.e. almost reduced by half) and the resultant compression ratio (i.e. up to 50%)., Comment: 8 pages. In this paper, we aim to investigate the synchronization problem of dynamical systems, which can be of generic linear or Lipschitz nonlinear type, communicating over directed switching network topologies. A mild connectivity assumption on the switching topologies is imposed, which allows them to be directed and jointly connected. We propose a novel analysis framework from both algebraic and geometric perspectives to justify the attractiveness of the synchronization manifold. Specifically, it is proven that the complementary space of the synchronization manifold can be spanned by certain subspaces. These subspaces can be the eigenspaces of the nonzero eigenvalues of Laplacian matrices in linear case. They can also be subspaces in which the projection of the nonlinear self-dynamics still retains the Lipschitz property. This allows to project the states of the dynamical systems into these subspaces and transform the synchronization problem under consideration equivalently into a convergence one of the projected states in each subspace. Then, assuming the joint connectivity condition on the communication topologies, we are able to work out a simple yet effective and unified convergence analysis for both types of dynamical systems. More specifically, for partial-state coupled generic linear systems, it is proven that synchronization can be reached if an extra condition, which is easy to verify in several cases, on the system dynamics is satisfied. For Lipschitz-type nonlinear systems with positive-definite inner coupling matrix, synchronization is realized if the coupling strength is strong enough to stabilize the evolution of the projected states in each subspace under certain conditions., Comment: 17 pages, 11 figures

Money laundering is a major global problem, enabling criminal organisations to hide their ill-gotten gains and to finance further operations. Prevention of money laundering is seen as a high priority by many governments, however detection of money laundering without prior knowledge of predicate crimes remains a significant challenge. Previous detection systems have tended to focus on individuals, considering transaction histories and applying anomaly detection to identify suspicious behaviour. However, money laundering involves groups of collaborating individuals, and evidence of money laundering may only be apparent when the collective behaviour of these groups is considered. In this paper we describe a detection system that is capable of analysing group behaviour, using a combination of network analysis and supervised learning. This system is designed for real-world application and operates on networks consisting of millions of interacting parties. Evaluation of the system using real-world data indicates that suspicious activity is successfully detected. Importantly, the system exhibits a low rate of false positives, and is therefore suitable for use in a live intelligence environment.

The publication of fake reviews by parties with vested interests has become a severe problem for consumers who use online product reviews in their decision making. To counter this problem a number of methods for detecting these fake reviews, termed opinion spam, have been proposed. However, to date, many of these methods focus on analysis of review text, making them unsuitable for many review systems where accom-panying text is optional, or not possible. Moreover, these approaches are often computationally expensive, requiring extensive resources to handle text analysis over the scale of data typically involved. In this paper, we consider opinion spammers manipulation of average ratings for products, focusing on dif-ferences between spammer ratings and the majority opinion of honest reviewers. We propose a lightweight, effective method for detecting opinion spammers based on these differences. This method uses binomial regression to identify reviewers having an anomalous proportion of ratings that deviate from the majority opinion. Experiments on real-world and synthetic data show that our approach is able to successfully iden-tify opinion spammers. Comparison with the current state-of-the-art approach, also based only on ratings, shows that our method is able to achieve similar detection accuracy while removing the need for assump-tions regarding probabilities of spam and non-spam reviews and reducing the heavy computation required for learning.

Anomalies in online social networks can signify irregular, and often illegal behaviour. Anomalies in online social networks can signify irregular, and often illegal behaviour. Detection of such anomalies has been used to identify malicious individuals, including spammers, sexual predators, and online fraudsters. In this paper we survey existing computational techniques for detecting anomalies in online social networks. We characterise anomalies as being either static or dynamic, and as being labelled or unlabelled, and survey methods for detecting these different types of anomalies. We suggest that the detection of anomalies in online social networks is composed of two sub-processes; the selection and calculation of network features, and the classification of observations from this feature space. In addition, this paper provides an overview of the types of problems that anomaly detection can address and identifies key areas of future research.
