As the most common degenerative joint disease, osteoarthritis (OA) contributes significantly to pain and disability during aging. Several genes of interest involved in articular cartilage damage in OA have been identified. However, the direct causes of OA are poorly understood. Evaluating the public human RNA-seq dataset showed that CBFB (subunit of a heterodimeric Cbfβ/Runx1, Runx2, or Runx3 complex) expression is decreased in the cartilage of patients with OA. Here, we found that the chondrocyte-specific deletion of Cbfb in tamoxifen-induced Cbfbf/f;Col2a1-CreERT mice caused a spontaneous OA phenotype, worn articular cartilage, increased inflammation, and osteophytes. RNA-sequencing analysis showed that Cbfβ deficiency in articular cartilage resulted in reduced cartilage regeneration, increased canonical Wnt signaling and inflammatory response, and decreased Hippo/Yap signaling and Tgfβ signaling. Immunostaining and western blot validated these RNA-seq analysis results. ACLT surgery-induced OA decreased Cbfβ and Yap expression and increased active β-catenin expression in articular cartilage, while local AAV-mediated Cbfb overexpression promoted Yap expression and diminished active β-catenin expression in OA lesions. Remarkably, AAV-mediated Cbfb overexpression in knee joints of mice with OA showed the significant protective effect of Cbfβ on articular cartilage in the ACLT OA mouse model. Overall, this study, using loss-of-function and gain-of-function approaches, uncovered that low expression of Cbfβ may be the cause of OA. Moreover, Local admission of Cbfb may rescue and protect OA through decreasing Wnt/β-catenin signaling, and increasing Hippo/Yap signaling and Tgfβ/Smad2/3 signaling in OA articular cartilage, indicating that local Cbfb overexpression could be an effective strategy for treatment of OA. Background: Relevant evidence suggests that angiogenic factors contribute significantly to fibril matrix reconstruction following physical injuries to tendon ligaments. Vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGFA), with its potent angiogenic effect, has been studied extensively, and its functional polymorphisms, including rs699947, rs1570360, and rs2010963, have been the focus of numerous investigations. Some scholars have explored the association between gene polymorphisms in the VEGFA and the risk of tendon ligament injury, but the findings are not entirely consistent. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the association between rs699947, rs1570360, and rs2010963 gene polymorphisms in VEGFA and the risk of tendon and ligament injuries. Methods: After including articles about the association of VEGFA rs699947, rs1570360, and rs2010963 polymorphisms with tendon and ligament injuries according to the search strategy, we assessed their quality and conducted meta-analyses to examine the link between these polymorphisms and the risk of tendon and ligament injuries using odds ratios and 95% confidence intervals. Results: Of 86 related articles, six were included in the meta-analysis. Some of these suggest an association between VEGFA rs2010963 and the risk of tendon and ligament injury in the population, with the specific C allele being one of the adverse factors for knee injury. Some studies suggest that VEGFA rs699947 and VEGFA rs1570360 single-nucleotide polymorphisms are associated with anterior cruciate ligament rupture. The risk of non-contact anterior cruciate ligament rupture is nearly doubled in individuals with the rs699947 CC genotype compared to the control group. Our analysis did not find any significant relationship between VEGFA gene polymorphisms (rs699947, rs1570360, and rs2010963) and the chance of tendon and ligament injury without consideration of race. However, the European population reveals that the CC genotype of VEGFA rs699947 can result in a greater risk of tendon and ligament injury, whereas the AG genotype for rs1570360 provides some protection. Additionally, rs2010963 was significantly associated with tendon and ligament injury; individuals with the C allele and the CC genotype had higher risk. False-positive report probability confirmed the high credibility of our results. Conclusion: Overall, this study found no significant association between VEGFA rs699947, rs1570360, and rs2010963 polymorphisms and the risk of tendon ligament injury. This meta-analysis compared the efficacy of oblique lumbar interbody fusion (OLIF) and minimally invasive transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (MIS-TLIF) in the treatment of lumbar degenerative diseases. A computer search for the published literature on OLIF and MIS-TLIF for the treatment of lumbar degenerative diseases in the PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, CINAHL, MEDLINE, Cochrane Library, and other databases was performed, from which 522 related articles were retrieved and 13 were finally included. Two reviewers independently extracted data from the included studies and analyzed them using RevMan 5.4. The quality of the studies was assessed using the Cochrane systematic analysis and the Newcastle–Ottawa scale. Meta-analysis showed that the blood loss [95% confidence intervals (CI) (− 121.01, − 54.56), P < 0.001 ], hospital stay [95% CI (− 1.98, − 0.85), P < 0.001 ], postoperative fusion rate [95%CI (1.04, 3.60), P = 0.04 ], postoperative disc height [95% CI (0.50, 3.63), P = 0.01 ], and postoperative foraminal height [95% CI (0.96, 4.13), P = 0.002 ] were all better in the OLIF group; however, the complication rates were significantly lower in the MIS-TLIF group [95% CI (1.01, 2.06), P = 0.04 ]. However, there were no significant differences between the two in terms of surgery time, patient satisfaction, or postoperative functional scores. The OLIF group had the advantages of lower blood loss, a shorter hospital stay, a higher postoperative fusion rate, and better recovery of the disc and foraminal heights, whereas MIS-TLIF had a relatively lower complication rate. Introduction: This meta-analysis aimed to compare the differences in postoperative efficacy between oblique lumbar interbody fusion (OLIF) and transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF) in the treatment of lumbar degenerative diseases. Materials and methods: Strictly based on the search strategy, we searched the published papers on OLIF and TLIF for the treatment of lumbar degenerative diseases in PubMed, Embase, CINAHL, and Cochrane Library. A total of 607 related papers were retrieved, and 15 articles were finally included. The quality of the papers was evaluated according to the Cochrane systematic review methodology, and the data were extracted and meta-analyzed using Review manager 5.4 software. Results: Through comparison, it was found that in the treatment of lumbar degenerative diseases, the OLIF group had certain advantages over the TLIF group in terms of intraoperative blood loss, hospital stay, visual analog scale (VAS) for leg pain (VAS-LP), Oswestry disability index (ODI), disc height (DH), foraminal height (FH), fused segmental lordosis (FSL), and cage height, and the differences were statistically significant. The results were similar in terms of surgery time, complications, fusion rate, VAS for back pain (VAS-BP) and various sagittal imaging indicators, and there was no significant difference. Conclusions: OLIF and TLIF can relieve low back pain symptoms in the treatment of lumbar degenerative diseases, but OLIF has certain advantages in terms of ODI and VAS-LP. Extracting high-accuracy landslide areas using deep learning methods from high spatial resolution remote sensing images is a hot topic in current research. However, the existing deep learning algorithms are affected by background noise and landslide scale effects during the extraction process, leading to poor feature extraction effects. To address this issue, this paper proposes an improved mask regions-based convolutional neural network (Mask R-CNN) model to identify the landslide distribution in unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) images. The improvement of the model mainly includes three aspects: (1) an attention mechanism of the convolutional block attention module (CBAM) is added to the backbone residual neural network (ResNet). (2) A bottom-up channel is added to the feature pyramidal network (FPN) module. (3) The region proposal network (RPN) is replaced by guided anchoring (GA-RPN). Sanming City, China was selected as the study area for the experiments. The experimental results show that the improved model has a recall of 91.4% and an accuracy of 92.6%, which is 12.9% and 10.9% higher than the original Mask R-CNN model, respectively, indicating that the improved model is more effective in landslide extraction. Morphological properties and structures of the porcupine quills of different sizes can be explored in detail using micro-CT scans. Information including the porosity, volume thickness, number and lengths of stiffeners within quills are extracted via two modalities, using commercially available software and custom-developed scripts. Three segmentation methods, including the Otsu global thresholding, histographic segmentation and deep learning segmentation, are applied to identify the porosity variation based on different segmentation methods. Over segmentation is found when applying Otsu global thresholding, yielded the highest porosity. Histographic segmentation performed better than Otsu thresholding in segmenting CT slices, however speckles are observed in foam areas with lower intensity. Among all methods, deep learning segmentation resulted in the most reliable segmentation, and showed a consistent porosity across different quill sizes. The authors examined how stability/change in working alliance predicted subsequent symptoms, and how stability/change in symptoms predicted subsequent alliance in a sample of 188 adult clients with 44 doctoral student therapists over the course of 893 eight-session time periods of individual psychodynamic psychotherapy. Clients completed the Working Alliance Inventory--Short Revised (WAI-SR; Hatcher & Gillaspy, 2006) after every session and the Outcome Questionnaire--45 (OQ; Lambert et al., 1996) before intake and every eighth session. The authors used multilevel polynomial regression and response surface analyses to examine within-client effects. The authors found that change in the alliance across an eight-session period did not have an immediate temporal effect on symptoms, but when alliance was stable and stronger compared to other periods, subsequent symptoms were lower. Similarly, change in symptoms across an eight-session period did not have an immediate temporal effect on alliance, but when symptoms were stable and lower compared to other periods, subsequent alliance was stronger. These results suggest that sustained improvements in the alliance contribute to subsequent symptom improvements, and vice versa. This study extended the cross-sectional therapist attachment literature by examining longitudinal changes of therapist attachment avoidance and anxiety in relation to client treatment outcome. Data consisted of 942 Outcome Questionnaire-45 assessments (Lambert et al., 1996, 2004) of 213 clients working with 30 therapists from a university clinic that provided psychodynamically/interpersonally oriented individual therapy, and yearly therapist self-report of attachment styles using the Experience in Close Relationships Scale (Brennan et al., 1998) over 2-4 years of training at a university clinic. Using multilevel growth modeling, we found that initial attachment anxiety or avoidance alone were not associated with treatment outcomes. Instead, therapists with small increases in attachment avoidance, from a low avoidance baseline, were more effective in helping clients reduce psychological distress than their peers. Findings suggest that small increases in attachment avoidance may be a beneficial development for trainees, as it may reflect a process of learning emotional boundary regulation (Skovholt & Rønnestad, 2003) and taking on the observer aspect of the participant-observer role (Sullivan, 1953). Current findings challenged the assumption that higher therapist attachment avoidance and anxiety is always associated with worse client outcome and suggested the importance of continuous self-reflection to understand how one's own attachment change impacts their clinical practice. To investigate the association of gene polymorphisms of TNF-α-308G/A rs1800629 with the susceptibility and severity of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), literature from PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science and CNKI databases was searched. Two authors screened the literature independently, extracted data and evaluated the risk of bias of the included studies. According to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, five genetic models were established: The allelic model (A vs. G), dominant model (GA + AA vs. GG), recessive model (AA vs. GG + GA), co-dominant model (AA vs. GG) and super-dominant model (GG + AA vs. GA). Stata 17.0 software was used for the meta-analysis. A total of 34 eligible studies with 12,611 subjects were included, including 6,030 cases in the RA group and 6,581 controls. Meta-analysis calculations revealed that the genetic polymorphisms of TNF-α-308G/A rs1800629 were not significantly associated with susceptibility to RA, with an odds ratio and 95% confidence interval (CI) for each genetic model [A vs. G: 0.937 (0.762-1.152); GA + AA vs. GG: 0.918 (0.733-1.148); AA vs. GG + GA: 1.131 (0.709-1.802); AA vs. GG: 1.097 (0.664-1.813); and GG + AA vs. GA: 1.108 (0.894-1.373)]. For the association between TNF-α-308G/A rs1800629 gene polymorphisms and the severity of RA, the results of subgroup analysis calculations showed that TNF-α-308G/A rs1800629 gene polymorphisms were associated with the severity of RA in European populations, with the gene model and 95% CI [GA + AA vs. GG: 0.503 (0.297-0.853); and GG + AA vs. GA: 2.268 (1.434-3.590)]. When assessing the confidence in the positive results of the present study through the false-positive report probability, the positive results were observed to be reliable. No significant association was observed between genetic polymorphisms in TNF-α-308G/A rs1800629 and susceptibility to RA. The emerging four-dimensional (4D) additive manufacturing (AM) has evolved from passive 3D printed objects to active ones, where materials and structures react to environmental stimulus. While nature is often the inspiration in fabricating static structures, it also plays a vital role in 4D printing. In order to survive and protect themselves from harsh environments, both plants and animals are equipped with unique movements and locomotion. However, the process of fabricating bioinspired 4D structures is complex and challenging. This review provides an overview of nature-inspired actuation to the realisation by 4D printing. Firstly, an understanding of nature actuations is briefly depicted. Next, the processes involved in the fabrication of 4D printed parts are described. Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ (PPARγ) is the master transcriptional regulator of adipocytes and the cellular target of thiazolidinedione (TZD) drugs. Suppression of pro-inflammatory actions, including pro-inflammatory gene expression and lipolysis in adipocytes, contributes to PPARγ-mediated anti-diabetic effects of TZDs. However, adverse side effects largely limited the clinical use of TZDs, despite their potent insulin-sensitizing effects. Therefore, it is important to understand how PPARγ is regulated. Thyroid hormone receptor-associated protein 3 (THRAP3) was previously reported to promote diabetic gene expression by acting as a tra nscriptional coregulator of PPARγ in adipocytes. Therefore, we tested if THRAP3 modulated anti-inflammatory functions of PPARγ in 3T3-L1 adipocytes. THRAP3 depletion increased basal and tumor necrosis factor α (TNFα)-induced lipolysis, pro-inflammatory gene expression, and phosphorylation of extracellular signal-regulated kinases (ERKs), suggesting elevated proinflammatory response after THRAP3 depletion in adipocytes. Moreover, TZD-mediated suppression of TNFα-induced lipolysis, pro-inflammatory gene expression, and ERK phosphorylation was attenuated or alleviated after THRAP3 depletion. Interestingly, the mRNA and protein levels of PPARγ were greatly reduced in THRAP3-depleted adipocytes. Actinomycin D treatment revealed that the stability of PPARγ mRNA was greatly reduced by THRAP3 depletion in adipocytes. Under the conditions of straw returning operation, there are three major technical bottlenecks in the Phaeozem region of northeast China, namely low stubble breaking rate, poor tillage depth consistency, and high fuel consumption. In this research, a bionic stubble-deep loosening combined tillage machine (BSD) was designed through bionic prototype analysis, coupled bionic analysis, coupled bionic design, theoretical analysis and application of intelligent control techniques. It consists of a bionic stubble breaking device and a bionic self-excited vibratory deep loosening device. Based on the unique biting pattern of locust mouthparts on maize rootstocks, the bionic stubble breaking device adopted a new multi-segment serrated bionic structure and a symmetrical rotational motion, which could significantly increase the stubble breaking rate (p<0.05) and reduce the resistance to stubble breaking operations (p<0.05). Based on the unique biology of the hare's paws, toes and nails, the bionic self-excited vibration deep loosening device adopted a new series-parallel composite bionic elastic system and an intelligent tilling depth control system with a fuzzy algorithm, which significantly improved the tilling depth consistency (p<0.05). The operational performance of the BSD was verified at different operating speeds through comparative experiments and reveals the mechanism of its excellent performance through theoretical analysis. The final experiment results showed that, at the same operating speed, the BSD improved the stubble breaking rate by 9.62% and 10.67%, reduced the stubble breaking torque by 28 N·m and 33 N·m, reduced the tillage depth coefficient of variation by 12.73% and 13.48%, and reduced the specific fuel consumption by 36 g/km·h and 40 g/km·h compared to the two most common models. The multi-modal imaging contrast agent has been attracted an increased interest to the tumor detecting and diagnosis in these recent years since the multi-modal imaging technology combines the advantages of several medical imaging modalities. A water-soluble fullerenol probe containing glypican-3 monoclonal antibody (GPC3-mAb) group mAb-GPC3-C60(OH)10-(TMIO)3-(NI)3 was synthesized by the incorporation of 5-formyl-1,1,3,3-tetramethylisoindolin-2-yloxyl (FTMIO), naphthalimide (NI) and GPC3-mAb as a tumor-targeting group into fullerenol C60(OH)11. This nanomaterial was further characterized by FTIR, UV, MS, fluorescence, etc., and then its properties including electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR), particle size, electrophoresis, electrochemical assay, cell cytotoxicity, cell uptake and fluorescent imaging of HeLa tumor cells in vitro were also evaluated. Experiment results indicated that mAb-GPC3-C60(OH)10-(TMIO)3-(NI)3 had similar fluorescent properties as NI and similar electrochemical and redox properties as 5-carboxy-1,1,3,3-tetramethylisoindolin-2-yloxyl (CTMIO). Moreover, mAb-GPC3-C60(OH)10-(TMIO)3-(NI)3 possessed low cell cytotoxicity, good fluorescence and good tumor-targeting property. Meanwhile, mAb-GPC3-C60(OH)10-(TMIO)3-(NI)3 can be taken up highly by HeLa tumor cells, achieve good green fluorescent imaging in tumor cells and highly enhance the contrast of fluorescent images. Therefore, mAb-GPC3-C60(OH)10-(TMIO)3-(NI)3 can disperse homogeneously in aqueous solution and be used as a potential tumor-targeting dual-modal contrast agent for EPR imaging/fluorescence imaging (EPRI/FI). Objective: Cytoreductive surgery followed by adjuvant chemotherapy is a standard frontline treatment for epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC). We aimed to develop an ovarian cancer risk score (OVRS) based on the expression of 10 ovarian-cancer-related genes to predict the chemoresistance, and outcomes of EOC patients. Methods: We designed a case-control study with total 149 EOC women including 75 chemosensitives and 74 chemoresistants. Gene expression was measured using the quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction. We tested for correlation between the OVRS and chemosensitivity or chemoresistance, disease-free survival (DFS), and overall survival (OS), and validated the OVRS by analyzing patients from the TCGA database. Results: The chemosensitive group had lower OVRS than the chemoresistant group (5 vs. 15, p=0.001, Mann-Whitney U test). Patients with disease relapse (13 vs. 5, p<0.001, Mann-Whitney U test) or disease-related death (13.5 vs. 6, p<0.001) had higher OVRS than those without. OVRS =10 (hazard ratio=3.29; 95% confidence interval=1.94-5.58; p<0.001) was the only predictor for chemoresistance in multivariate analysis. The median DFS (5 months vs. 24 months) and OS (39 months vs. >60 months) of patients with OVRS =10 were significantly shorter than those of patients with OVRS <9). The high OVRS group also had significantly shorter median OS than the low OVRS group in 255 patients in the TCGA database (39 vs. 49 months, p=0.046). Background: Ziwan and Taoren (ZT) is a classic medicine pair in the formula of Mai Dong Di Shao Decoction, has been used to treat primary Sjogren's syndrome (pSS) for more than 20 years. But its action mechanism is still unknown. This study is aimed to reveal the potential mechanism of ZT treated pSS and discover its active compounds of ZT and therapeutic target for pSS. Methods: Firstly, the potential pathways of ZT for pSS treatment were predicted through network pharmacology and GO and KEGG enrichment analysis. Secondly, the inter-structural relationships between active compounds of ZT and target proteins were visualized using molecular docking techniques. Finally, efficacy and mechanism were conducted through in vivo experiments, such as water intake, spleen index, hematoxylin-eosin staining pathological changes, ELISA, Western Blot analysis, and immunofluorescence staining. Results: Nine active compounds were extracted from network pharmacology, including quercitrin, luteolin, kaempferol, β-sitosterol, isorhamnetin, galangin, hederagenin, diosmetin and gibberellin 7. Seven disease targets were identified: RELA, TP53, AKT1, interleukin (IL) 6, MAPK1, ESR1, IL10; with RELA being the most core target. KEGG and GO enrichment analysis indicated that ZT may act through the TLR/NF-κB/RELA inflammatory mechanism process. preliminary results of molecular docking showed that ZT's active compounds bind well to the RELA (p65) receptor. In vivo results demonstrated that a high dose of ZT significantly improved water intake and reduced lymphocytes infiltration in submandibular gland pathology in NOD mice. The expression content of AQP5 and vasoactive intestinal peptide in the submaxillary gland was significantly increased, while levels of inflammatory factors such as tumor necrosis factor-α, IL-6, and IL-1β along with protein expressions including toll-like receptor4, p-p65 and p-IKKα/β in NF-κB pathway were reduced. Conclusions: The ZT treatment exhibits a promising efficacy in mitigating dryness symptoms of pSS, potentially attributed to its capacity for suppressing the TLR/NF-κB inflammatory signaling pathway. Stimulus-responsive optical polymers, especially gels, are enabling new-concept energy-transducing "smart" optics. Full exploitation of their molecule-derived tuning and integration with traditional micro/nano-optics/optoelectronics rely on the implementation of devices by advanced "intelligent" micro/nano-manufacturing technologies, especially photolithographies with wide compatibility. In light of the increasing need for an organic combination of smart optical materials and digital micro/nano-manufacturing, novel "smart" optical micro-switches, namely, stimulus-actuated Mach–Zehnder interferometers as a proof-of-concept demonstration, were prototyped with protein-based hydrogels via aqueous multiphoton femtosecond laser direct writing (FsLDW). Protein-based Mach–Zehnder-interferometric smart optical devices here display a morphological quality sufficient for optical applications (average surface roughness ≤ ∼20 nm), nano-precision three-dimensional (3D) geometry of these millimeter-scale devices and purposely structured distribution of photo-crosslinking degree. Moreover, the device configuration was customized with unbalanced branches in which meticulous stimulus-responsive ability can be realized by simply tuning the surrounding chemical stimuli (i.e., Na2SO4 concentration here). The "heterogeneous" configuration with unbalanced branches (i.e., different optical and stimulus-responsive features) exhibits as-designed "smart" switching of propagated near-infrared light (∼808 nm). These capabilities, along with total biodegradation, indicate the application promise of this gel-based optic construction strategy towards novel "intelligent", bio/eco-friendly, self-tuning or sensing photonic integrated systems like optofluidics. Abstract Aim Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a common human malignancy which accounts for 600,000 deaths annually at the global level. Soyasapogenol B (Soy B), an ingredient of soybean, has been found to exert anti-proliferative activities in vitro in human breast cancer cells. The current study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of Soy B in suppressing CRC. Methods and materials The effect of Soy B on cell viability was assessed using the Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8) assay. The effect of Soy B on cell proliferation was determined using colony formation assay. The percentage of apoptotic cells was determined by the TUNEL assay and flow cytometry following Annexin V-FITC/Propidium Iodide (PI) double staining. JC-1 staining was performed to examine the change in mitochondrial membrane potential. Autophagy was examined by acridine orange staining and mRFP-GFP-LC3 adenovirus transfection. Caspase-12 activities were determined by ELISA kit. Western blotting was used to determine the expression of relevant proteins. To investigate the role of autophagy in the pro-death and pro-apoptotic activities of Soy B, autophagy inhibitors Bafilomycin A1 (Baf-A1) and Atg5 siRNA were utilized. TUDCA and CHOP shRNA were utilized to block ER stress. Moreover, a CRC xenograft murine model was used to analyze the therapeutic efficacy of Soy B in vivo. Key findings Soy B treatment decreased the number of viable cells and colonies formed in CRC cell lines. Moreover, Soy B treatment promoted the apoptotic cell death via the intrinsic pathway and autophagy which positively contributed to cell death and apoptosis. In addition, our results showed that ER stress, triggered by Soy B, mediated apoptosis and autophagy. In vivo results revealed that Soy B could suppress tumor growth, which was associated with increased ER stress, accompanied with apoptosis and autophagy induction. Significance Soy B was able to promote cell death in vitro and in vivo. Our findings highlight the possibility of utilizing Soy B as a chemotherapeutic agent to prevent and treat CRC. Due to the increasing incidence of gastrointestinal (GI) tumors, more and more importance is attached to radical resection and patients’ survival, which requires adequate extent of resection and radical lymph node dissection. Blood vessels around the gastrointestinal tract, as anatomical landmarks for tumor resection and lymph node dissection, play a key role in the successful surgery and curative treatment of gastrointestinal tumors. In the isolation of subpyloric area or hepatic flexure of the colon for gastrectomy or right hemicolectomy, lymph node dissection and ligation are often performed at the head of the pancreas and superior mesenteric vein, during which even a minor inadvertent error may lead to unwanted bleeding. Among these blood vessels, the venous system composed of Henle’s trunk and its tributaries is the most complex, which has a direct influence on the outcome and postoperative recovery of the patients. There are many variations of Henle’s trunk, with complicated courses and various locations, attracting more and more researchers to study it and tried to analyze the influence of its variations on gastrointestinal surgeries. We characterized various variants and tributaries of Henle’s trunk using autopsy, vascular casting, 3D CT reconstruction, intraoperative anatomy, and Hisense CAS system and summarized and analyzed the tributaries of Henle’s trunk, to determine its influence on GI surgeries. Existing research has revealed that auditory attention can be tracked from ongoing electroencephalography (EEG) signals. The aim of this novel study was to investigate the identification of peoples' attention to a specific auditory object from single-trial EEG signals via entropy measures and machine learning. Approximate entropy (ApEn), sample entropy (SampEn), composite multiscale entropy (CmpMSE) and fuzzy entropy (FuzzyEn) were used to extract the informative features of EEG signals under three kinds of auditory object-specific attention (Rest, Auditory Object1 Attention (AOA1) and Auditory Object2 Attention (AOA2)). The linear discriminant analysis and support vector machine (SVM), were used to construct two auditory attention classifiers. The statistical results of entropy measures indicated that there were significant differences in the values of ApEn, SampEn, CmpMSE and FuzzyEn between Rest, AOA1 and AOA2. For the SVM-based auditory attention classifier, the auditory object-specific attention of Rest, AOA1 and AOA2 could be identified from EEG signals using ApEn, SampEn, CmpMSE and FuzzyEn as features and the identification rates were significantly different from chance level. The optimal identification was achieved by the SVM-based auditory attention classifier using CmpMSE with the scale factor τ = 10. In the diagnosis of neurological diseases and assessment of brain function, entropy measures for quantifying electroencephalogram (EEG) signals are attracting ever-increasing attention worldwide. However, some entropy measures, such as approximate entropy (ApEn), sample entropy (SpEn), multiscale entropy and so on, imply high computational costs because their computations are based on hundreds of data points. In this paper, we propose an effective and practical method to accelerate the computation of these entropy measures by exploiting vectors with dissimilarity (VDS). By means of the VDS decision, distance calculations of most dissimilar vectors can be avoided during computation. The experimental results show that, compared with the conventional method, the proposed VDS method enables a reduction of the average computation time of SpEn in random signals and EEG signals by 78.5% and 78.9%, respectively. The computation times are consistently reduced by about 80.1~82.8% for five kinds of EEG signals of different lengths. The experiments further demonstrate the use of the VDS method not only to accelerate the computation of SpEn in electromyography and electrocardiogram signals but also to accelerate the computations of time-shift multiscale entropy and ApEn in EEG signals. All results indicate that the VDS method is a powerful strategy for accelerating the computation of entropy measures and has promising application potential in the field of biomedical informatics. We examined the centrality of Group Dynamics: Theory, Research and Practice in the communication network of major journals publishing group research. We used document citation analysis, a bibliographic approach based on citation frequency, to determine the degree of relationship among the journals publishing group research. A 23 by 23 cocitation matrix was analyzed using NetDraw and UCINET. The resulting social network analysis showed that Group Dynamics: Theory, Research and Practice: (a) occupied a central place in the journal's communication network; (b) had a betweenness centrality index (indicating a journal's linking role within the social network) that was 3 standard deviations greater than the sample's average betweenness centrality index; and (c) had the same number of communication links as higher- impact journals like the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology and the Journal of Applied Psychology. These results suggest that Group Dynamics: Theory, Research and Practice occupies a "favored position" in the communication network of the journals publishing group research. The flowability and dispersion behavior are two important physicochemical properties of pharmaceutical formulations for dry powder inhalers (DPIs). They are usually affected by the environmental conditions, such as temperature and relative humidity (RH). However, very few studies have been focused on the relationship between the two properties and their dependence on RH during storage. In this research, model pharmaceutical formulations were prepared using mixtures of coarse and fine lactose. The fractions of fines in the mixtures were 0%, 5%, 10%, and 20%, respectively. These blends were stored at four different RH levels, 0%, 30%, 58%, and 85%, for 48 h. The FT4 Powder Rheometer was used to evaluate the powder flowability, and the Malvern Spraytec® laser diffraction system was employed to assess the powder dispersion performance. The results indicated that both the flow and dispersion properties of lactose blends deteriorate after being stored at 85% RH, but improved after being conditioned at 58% RH. The fine particle fractions (FPFs) of the blends with 5% and 10% fine fractions and the as-received coarse lactose decreased when they were conditioned at 30% RH. For the blend with 20% fine fraction, a high RH during storage (i.e., 85% RH) affected the dispersion property, but had a limited influence on its flowability, while, for the coarse lactose powder, the different RH conditions affected its flowability, but not the dispersion results. Asthma has become a common chronic respiratory disease worldwide and its prevalence is predicted to continue increasing in the next decade, particularly in developing countries. A key component in asthma therapy is to alleviate the excessive bronchial airway narrowing ultimately due to airway smooth muscle contraction, which is often facilitated by a smooth muscle relaxant, such as the β2-adrenergic agonists. Recently, bitter taste receptor (TAS2R) agonists, including saccharin and chloroquine, have been found to potently relax the airway smooth muscle cells (ASMCs) via intracellular Ca2+ signaling. This inspires a great interest in screening the vast resource of natural bitter substances for potential bronchodilatory drugs. In the present study, the relaxation effect of naringin, a compound extracted from common grapefruit, on ASMCs cultured in vitro or bronchial airways of Balb/c mice in vivo was evaluated. The results demonstrated that, when exposed to increasing doses of naringin (0.125, 0.25, 0.5 and 1.0 mM), the traction force generated by the cultured ASMCs decreased progressively, while the intracellular calcium flux signaling in the ASMCs increased. When inhaled at increasing doses (15, 30 and 60 μg), naringin also dose-dependently reduced the bronchial airway resistance of the normal and ovalbumin-induced asthma Balb/c mice in response to challenge with methacholine. In conclusion, these findings indicate that naringin was able to effectively relax murine ASMCs in vitro and in vivo, thus suggesting that it is a promising drug agent to be further investigated in the development of novel bronchodilators for the treatment of asthma. Herein, by using maskless and noncontact femtosecond laser direct writing (FsLDW) form protein aqueous ink, protein-based Y-junction optical micro/nano-splitters (PYOMs) have been readily customized with environmental-stimulus-actuated light-splitting adjustments for the first time to our knowledge. Bio/eco-compatible protein-based biopolymer successfully acted as the ideal alternative of artificial polymers for optical waveguide devices. Based on flexibly programmable “one-step” FsLDW, applicable shape-symmetric PYOMs were facilely fabricated with tailorable light-power-splitting ratios (from ∼1:1 to ∼3:1 in air). Terrible triad injury of the elbow (TTIE) is a severe high-energy injury to the elbow, mainly including elbow dislocation, coronoid fracture and radial head fracture. It is difficult to maintain the stability of the elbow joint using traditional conservative treatment, and there is a high risk of redislocation and various complications. Therefore, surgical treatment is currently advocated, mainly for repairing damaged ligaments and reconstructing bony structures, but there is still controversy about the treatment plan for the radial head. The current meta-analysis was conducted to compare the differences in efficacy of radial head arthroplasty (RHA) and open reduction internal fixation (ORIF) in the treatment of TTIE. Published literature related to the treatment (either ORIF or RHA) of TTIE was searched for in Embase, PubMed, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, ProQuest Dissertations and Theses, Cochrane Library and Chinese Biomedical Literature Database. According to the search strategy, a total of 1,928 related publications were retrieved. The patient must have been diagnosed with TTIE and required surgery on the radial head. The interventions were RHA and ORIF. Non-case-control studies, case reports, review articles, letters, duplicate reports and literature without sufficient relevant data were excluded. The quality of the literature was evaluated according to the Cochrane systematic review methodology and the Jadad scale. After data extraction, meta-analysis was performed using ReviewManager 5.4 software (Cochrane). A total of 15 studies involving 455 patients (189 who underwent RHA and 266 who underwent ORIF) were included. Range of motion (ROM) of the forearm (pronation-supination arc) after surgery in the RHA group [95% CI (0.28, 9.59); P=0.04] was found to be significantly superior to the ORIF group, with a lower incidence of complications [95% CI (0.22, 0.84); P=0.01]. However, there was no statistically significant difference for the Mayo Elbow Performance Score, Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand Score nor for ROM of the elbow (flexion-extension arc). Overall, compared with the ORIF group, the RHA group had better forearm rotational ROM and fewer complications after surgery. Therefore, RHA was found to be superior to ORIF in the treatment of TTIE. Background: It has been shown that irisin levels are reduced in skeletal muscle and plasma of obese rats; however, the effect of exercise training on irisin level remains controversial. We aim to evaluate the association of swimming exercise with serum irisin level and other obesity-associated parameters. Methods: Forty healthy male Wistar rats were randomly assigned to 4 groups: a normal diet and sedentary group (ND group), normal diet and exercise group (NDE group), high-fat diet and sedentary group (HFD group), and high-fat diet and exercise group (HFDE group. After 8 consecutive weeks of swimming exercise, fat mass and serum irisin level was determined. Results: Higher serum irisin levels were detected in the HFDE group (1.15 ± 0.28 μg/L) and NDE group (1.76±0.17 μg/L) than in the HFD group (0.84 ± 0.23 μg/L) or the ND group (1.24 ± 0.29 μg/L), respectively (HFDE group vs. HFD group, P < 0.05; NDE group vs. ND group, P < 0.01). Pearson's correlation analysis showed that serum irisin level negatively correlated with TG level (r = -0.771, P < 0.05), percentage fat mass (r = -0.68, P <0.05), fat mass (r = -0.576, P< 0.05), visceral fat mass (r = -0.439, P < 0.05) and TC level (r = -0.389, P < 0.05). The fat mass, visceral fat mass and percentage fat mass were lower in the HFDE group than the HFD group (all P values < 0.01). As a phenotypically plastic cellular population, macrophages change their physiology in response to environmental signals. Emerging evidence suggests that macrophages are capable of tightly coordinating their metabolic programs to adjust their immunological and bioenergetic functional properties, as needed. Upon mitogenic stimulation, quiescent macrophages enter the cell cycle, increasing their bioenergetic and biosynthetic activity to meet the demands of cell growth. Proinflammatory stimulation, however, suppresses cell proliferation, while maintaining a heightened metabolic activity imposed by the production of bactericidal factors. Here, we report that the mitogenic stimulus, colony-stimulating factor 1 (CSF-1), engages a myelocytomatosis viral oncogen (Myc)-dependent transcriptional program that is responsible for cell cycle entry and the up-regulation of glucose and glutamine catabolism in bone marrow-derived macrophages (BMDMs). However, the proinflammatory stimulus, lipopolysaccharide (LPS), suppresses Myc expression and cell proliferation and engages a hypoxia-inducible factor alpha (HIF1α)-dependent transcriptional program that is responsible for heightened glycolysis. The acute deletion of Myc or HIF1α selectively impaired the CSF-1-- or LPS-driven metabolic activities in BMDM, respectively. Finally, inhibition of glycolysis by 2-deoxyglucose (2-DG) or genetic deletion of HIF1α suppressed LPS-induced inflammation in vivo. Our studies indicate that a switch from a Myc-dependent to a HIF1α-dependent transcriptional program may regulate the robust bioenergetic support for an inflammatory response, while sparing Myc-dependent proliferation. Micronanofabrication technologies developed so far pursue faithful conversion from digital models to matter structures. The thermal property of closed-cell aluminum foam is studied numerically and the effects of the distribution of the circular pore on the thermal property are studied theoretically. When the convection and radiation are ignored, the effects of porosity, cell size, and distribution forms of pore on the apparent thermal conductivity are investigated. Moreover, the effects of air in the pore on the thermal property are analyzed as well. Simulation results show that apparent thermal conductivity linearly increases with the increase of porosity, while the cell size and the distribution have negligible effects on the thermal property. Herein elastic and conductive polypyrrole hydrogels with only conducting polymer as the continuous phase have been simply synthesized in the indispensable conditions of 1) mixed solvent, 2) deficient oxidant, and 3) monthly secondary growth. The elastic mechanism and oxidative polymerization mechanism on the resulting PPy hydrogels have been discussed. The resulting hydrogels show some novel properties, e.g., shape memory elasticity, fast functionalization with various guest objects, and fast removal of organic infectants from aqueous solutions, all of which cannot be observed from traditional non-elastic conducting polymer counterparts. What's more, light-weight, elastic, and conductive organic sponges with excellent stress-sensing behavior have been successfully achieved via using the resulting polypyrrole hydrogels as precursors. The Tarim Basin was a craton block during the Carboniferous period. Except for its open southwestern (SWW) deepening basin margin, the central part of the basin was surrounded by northern, eastern, and southern uplifts. In most parts of the basin, there are three layers of carbonate rocks called Biocalcarenite member, standard limestone member and Xiaohaizi Formation. The present-day Maigeti slope, located in the southwestern area of the basin, was ever a paleogeographic carbonate platform margin to clinoform. Boreholes in the area reveal over ten meters of high-energy biospararenite of beach deposition in Xiaohaizi Formation. This feature is quite different from the low-energy micritic limestone of equivalent horizon in the middle and northern basins. Such typical carbonate beach and platform margin backgrounds indicate an environment conducive for reef growth. According to an interpretation of 3-D seismic data on a 600 km Xinbaza survey, a 25 km-long barrier reef orientated in an east-westward direction is delineated with a hummocky geometry, a 1-2 km wide south-dip reef front, and a 3-6 km wide north-dip backreef. The reef buttress and outlines are also shown on an isopach map of the Xiaohaizi Formation as well as horizon slices of coherency, amplitude, and frequency attributes. The reef extends beyond the range of the rectangular 3-D seismic survey. The thickness of the Xiaohaizi Formation is over 60 m at the central reef, and 12 m larger than the outside of the reef. The barrier reef consists of segments separated by narrow tidal inlets. The neighborhood of the reef is mainly beach deposition of bioclasticgrainstones. Due to Late Permier and Late Tertial tectonic movements, the barrier reef was tilted to dip in a SWW direction. Its updip part was broken and misplaced by a set of reverse faults. Nevertheless, potential stratigraphic pools of a large amount of hydrocarbon reserves related to the reef are expected to be found in the future based on the substantial reef scale and the recent borehole indications beside it. Background Protein Kinases are key regulators of cell function and play essential roles in the occurrence and development of many human diseases. Many kinase inhibitors have been used for molecular targeted treatment of those diseases such as cancer and inflammation. However, those highly hydrophobic kinase inhibitors shared the common features of poor bioavailability and limited in vivo half-life, which strongly impeded their practical applications. Our previous study demonstrated that microbial synthesized biodegradable polyester poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3- hydroxyhexanoate) (PHBHHx), a member of polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) family, could serve as a promising delivery nanocarrier for those hydrophobic kinase inhibitors. Recently, a novel natural synthesized hybrid copolymer, PEG200 end-capped PHBHHx (PHBHHxPEG) was produced by Aeromonas hydrophila fermentation. In this study, the novel PHBHHxPEG NPs were prepared and investigated to serve as intracellular delivery nanocarriers for sustained release of hydrophobic kinase inhibitors. Results PHBHHxPEG nanoparticles (NPs) prepared by an emulsification-solvent evaporation method were spherical with a diameter around 200 nm. The entrapment efficiency on rapamycin in PHBHHxPEG NPs was 91.9% and the sustained release of rapamycin from PHBHHxPEG NPs could be achieved for almost 10 days. The cellular uptake of PHBHHxPEG NPs was significant higher than that of PHBHHx NPs. The anti-proliferation effect and mTOR inhibition ability of rapamycin-loaded PHBHHxPEG NPs was stronger than that of drug-loaded PHBHHx NPs and free rapamycin. Conclusions PHBHHxPEG NPs could achieve the efficient entrapment and sustained release of rapamycin. The novel biodegradable PHBHHxPEG appeared a promising nanocarrier for sustained delivery of hydrophobic kinase inhibitors with improved cellular uptake and kinase inhibition efficiency. Rear-end collision often leads to serious casualties and traffic congestion. The consequences are even worse for multiple-vehicle collision. Many previous works focused on collision warning and avoidance strategies of two consecutive vehicles based on onboard sensor detection only. This paper proposes a centralized control strategy for multiple vehicles to minimize the impact of multiplevehicle collision based on vehicle-to-vehicle communication technique. The system is defined as a coupled group of vehicles with wireless communication capability and short following distances. The safety relationship can be represented as lower bound limit on deceleration of the first vehicle and upper bound on maximum deceleration of the last vehicle. The objective is to determine the desired deceleration for each vehicle such that the total impact energy is minimized at each time step. The impact energy is defined as the relative kinetic energy between a consecutive pair of vehicles (approaching only). Model predictive control (MPC) framework is used to formulate the problem to be constrained quadratic programming. Simulations show its effectiveness on collision mitigation. The present work investigates both the mechanical and chemical properties of a porcupine quill. An axial compression test is conducted on the natural material in three states: the entire composite quill structure and the response of shell and foam phases individually. These mechanical responses are reported, and compressive failure modes are quantified by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and micro-computed tomography (µCT). Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy is conducted and a slight compositional variation is found between the shell and foam phases of the porcupine quill. The design of a porcupine quill inspired structure is achieved through fabrication by stereolithography (SLA) additive manufacturing (AM) technology. Based on these design workflows, the properties of the structures, including struts length and relative density are analysed. Random workflow has a higher number of short struts while longer struts dominate reflected workflow. Relative density increases with the increasing number of seeds. However, it decreases with a growing number of sectors. Qualitative analysis of the numerical simulation presented shows the importance of struts connectivity for efficient stress distribution. The article discusses coordinated multidisciplinary process to reduce medication errors related to patient discharges to skilled-nursing facilities (SNFs). It also discusses the new discharge model, expanding the quality-improvement project, and implementation of the new model. Three novel organic amine templated honeycomb-like lanthanide sulfates, (C4N2H12)3[Ln3(OH)(SO4)7] (Ln = Sm (1), Eu (2), and Tb (3)), with extra-large channels containing 24-membered rings (24MR) have been synthesized by using chair form piperazine as the structure-directing agent under one-pot solvothermal reactions. The three compounds are isostructural, and the open framework of the tide compounds is the first lanthanide sulfate example with extra-large channels containing 24MR. It has an acs framework topology. The three compounds are strong luminescent materials that display characteristic Sm3+, Eu3+, and Tb3+ emission bands in the visible region. The observed second-harmonic generation efficiencies of the three compounds are all 0.4 times that of urea. TGA profiles and XRD measurements demonstrate their high thermal stability. We report a bulky macroporous TiO2 particles with cellular structure prepared in the presence of wood slices as template. Firstly, TiO2 sol was coated onto the wood slices by repeated dip-coating process. Then, after calcinations at 550¡ãC, the wood template could be removed, and the bulky TiO2 structure was obtained. The prepared samples were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), and transmission electron microscope (TEM) techniques. XRD pattern confirmed the crystalline phase of the wood-templated TiO2 is anatase phase. And interestingly, fromthe observation of SEM image, the wood-templated TiO2 inherited the initial cellular structures of birch lumber (B. albosinensis Burk), and numerousmacropores were observed in the sample. Monodisperse poly(acrylic acid)-modified Fe3O4 (PAA@Fe3O4) hybrid microspheres with dual responses (magnetic field and pH) were successfully fabricated. The PAA polymer was encapsulated into the inner cavity of Fe3O4 hollow spheres by a vacuum-casting route and photo-initiated polymerization. TEM images show that the samples consist of monodisperse porous spheres with a diameter around 200 nm. The Fe3O4 spheres, after modification with the PAA polymer, still possess enough space to hold guest molecules. We selected doxorubicin (DOX) as a model drug to investigate the drug loading and release behavior of as-prepared composites. The release of DOX molecules was strongly dependent on the pH value due to the unique property of PAA. The HeLa cell-uptake process of DOX-loaded PAA@Fe3O4 was observed by confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM). After being incubated with HeLa cells under magnet magnetically guided conditions, the cytotoxtic effects of DOX-loaded PAA@Fe3O4 increased. A new method based on rotating biological contactor (RBC) was employed for solving the problems of long hydraulic retention times (HRT) low specific surface area and organic loading rates (OLR) in conventional RBCs. The system showed its particular adsorption ability of microorganisms in the biofilm-attaching period. Microbes on the first cage were observed in comparison with the second one. Packing biodisc also had a good shock load tolerance. It was observed that the system performance improved at higher HRTs, while at the increased level of input OLR, the removal performance worsened slightly. The positive role of rotational speed in the treatment of municipal wastewater was more pronounced in the range of 10-12 rpm. Chemical oxygen demand (COD) removal rate achieved 94% under the optimal operating conditions, which were HRT of 1.5 h, rotational speed of 9.9 rpm. A body with a traveling-wave surface (TWS) is investigated by solving the incompressible Navier-Stokes equation numerically to understand the mechanisms of a novel propulsive strategy. In this study, a virtual model of a foil with a flexible surface which performs a traveling-wave movement is used as a free swimming body. Based on the simulations by varying the traveling-wave Reynolds number and the amplitude and wave number of the TWS, some propulsive properties including the forward speed, the swimming efficiency, and the flow field are analyzed in detail. It is found that the mean forward velocity increases with the traveling-wave Reynolds number, the amplitude, and the wave number of the TWS. A weak wake behind the free swimming body is identified and the propulsive mechanisms are discussed. Moreover, the TWS is a "quiet" propulsive approach, which is an advantage when preying. Neurons and glia display remarkable morphological plasticity, and remodeling of glia may facilitate neuronal shape changes. The molecular basis and control of glial shape changes is not well understood. In response to environmental stress, the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans enters an alternative developmental state, called dauer, in which glia and neurons of the amphid sensory organ remodel. Here, we describe a genetic screen aimed at identifying genes required for amphid glia remodeling. We previously demonstrated that remodeling requires the Otx-type transcription factor TTX-1 and its direct target, the receptor tyrosine kinase gene ver-1. We now find that the hunchback/Ikaros-like C2H2 zinc-finger factor ztf-16 is also required. We show that ztf-16 mutants exhibit pronounced remodeling defects, which are explained, at least in part, by defects in the expression of ver-1. Expression and cell-specific rescue studies suggest that ztf-16, like ttx-1, functions within glia; however, promoter deletion studies show that ztf-16 acts through a site on the ver-1 promoter that is independent of ttx-1. Our studies identify an important component of glia remodeling and suggest that transcriptional changes may underlie glial morphological plasticity in the sensory organs of C. elegans. A Mn(II)-based homometallic porous metal-organic framework, Mn5(btac)4(µ3-OH)2(EtOH)2·DMF·3EtOH·3H2O (1, btac = benzotriazole-5-carboxylate), has been solvothermally synthesized and structurally characterized by elemental analysis, thermogravimetric analysis, and X-ray crystallographic study. 1 is a 3D neutral framework featuring 1D porous channels constructed by {Mn-OH-Mn}n chains and btac linkers. Magnetic studies show that 1 is a 3D metamagnet containing 1D {Mn-OH-Mn}n ferrimagnetic chains. High-pressure H2 adsorption measurement at 77 K reveals that activated 1 can absorb 0.99 wt % H2 at 0.5 atm and reaches a maximum of 1.03 wt % at 5.5 atm. The steep H2 absorption at lower pressure (98.2% of the storage capacity at 0.5 atm) is higher than the corresponding values of some MOFs (MIL-100 (16.1%), MOF-177 (57.1%), and MOF-5 (22.2%)). Furthermore, activated 1 can adsorb CO2 at room temperature and 275 K. The adsorption enthalpy is 22.0 kJ mol-1, which reveals the high binding ability for CO2. Detailed gas sorption implies that the exposed Mn(II) coordination sites in the activated 1 play an important role to improve its adsorption capacities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Within the past 10 years, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) has not only been a hospital pathogen but also a community pathogen. To understand the carriage rate of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) among the adult patients visiting emergency department (ED), we conducted this study. Methodology/Principal Findings: From May 21 to August 12, 2009, a total of 502 adult patients visiting emergency department (ED) of a tertiary care hospital in northern Taiwan were recruited in this study and surveyed for nasal carriage of MRSA. A questionnaire regarding the risk factors for MRSA acquisition was also obtained. The overall prevalence of MRSA nasal carriage among the patients was 3.8%. The carriage rate was significantly higher in patients with risk factors for MRSA acquisition (5.94%) than those without risk factors (2.12%). Patients with urinary complaints, diabetes mellitus, chronic kidney disease and current percutaneous tube usage were significantly associated with MRSA colonization. By multiple logistic regression analysis, only current usage of catheters or tubes was the independent predictor for MRSA nasal colonization. Of the 19 MRSA, most isolates belonged to one of two linages, characterized as sequence type (ST) 239 (32%) and ST 59 (58%). The latter linage, accounting for 83% of 6 isolates from patients without risk factors, is a communityassociated (CA) clone in Taiwan, while the former linage is among healthcare-associated clones. Conclusion/Significance: A substantial proportion of patients visiting ED, particularly with current usage of percutaneous catheter or tubes, in northern Taiwan carried MRSA, mostly community strains, in nares. Behavior of electrical resistance was examined in room temperature and elevated temperatures up to 1000 °C for two types of SiC fibers with diameters of 140 and 70 μm, respectively. The results showed that electrical resistance showed a good linear relationship with the length of fibers. Electrical resistance decreased as temperature increased, besides, temperature coefficient of electrical resistance was a minus constant, −5.2 × 10 °C except that in the first heating. In the first heating, electrical resistance and temperature coefficient increased and had a peak in the range of 550-700 °C owing to the burning of the carbon-rich layer on the fiber surface. It suggested that behavior of electrical resistance of the fibers depended mainly on the carbon core and the carbon-rich layer. It was confirmed that SiC fiber could be used as heating elements for micro-heater and finally a micro-heater using SiC fiber as heating elements was developed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
