Search

Lepton scattering is an established ideal tool for studying inner structure of small particles such as nucleons as well as nuclei. As a future high energy nuclear physics project, an Electron-ion collider in China (EicC) has been proposed. It will be constructed based on an upgraded heavy-ion accelerator, High Intensity heavy-ion Accelerator Facility (HIAF) which is currently under construction, together with a new electron ring. The proposed collider will provide highly polarized electrons (with a polarization of $\sim$80%) and protons (with a polarization of $\sim$70%) with variable center of mass energies from 15 to 20 GeV and the luminosity of (2-3) $\times$ 10$^{33}$ cm$^{-2}$ s$^{-1}$. Polarized deuterons and Helium-3, as well as unpolarized ion beams from Carbon to Uranium, will be also available at the EicC. The main foci of the EicC will be precision measurements of the structure of the nucleon in the sea quark region, including 3D tomography of nucleon; the partonic structure of nuclei and the parton interaction with the nuclear environment; the exotic states, especially those with heavy flavor quark contents. In addition, issues fundamental to understanding the origin of mass could be addressed by measurements of heavy quarkonia near-threshold production at the EicC. In order to achieve the above-mentioned physics goals, a hermetical detector system will be constructed with cutting-edge technologies. This document is the result of collective contributions and valuable inputs from experts across the globe. The EicC physics program complements the ongoing scientific programs at the Jefferson Laboratory and the future EIC project in the United States. The study of exclusive processes in photon-induced interactions allows us to probe the generalized parton distributions (GPDs), which provide information about the 3-dimensional description of the quark and gluon content of hadrons. In this paper we investigate the timelike Compton scattering (TCS) in ultraperipheral pPb collisions at the LHC. Such process is characterized by the exclusive dilepton production through the subprocess γp→γ⁎p→l+l−p, with the real photon in the initial state being emitted by the nucleus. Assuming a given model for the GPDs, the TCS differential cross section is estimated as well the contribution associated to the interference between the TCS and Bethe–Heitler (BH) amplitudes. Predictions for the TCS, BH and interference contributions are presented considering the kinematical range covered by the LHC detectors.

The exclusive $\pi^0$ electroproduction is analyzed within the handbag approach based on Generalized Parton Distributions (GPDs) factorization. We consider the leading-twist contribution together with the transversity effects. It is shown that the transversity, $H_T$ and $\bar E_T$ GPDs are essential in the description of $\pi^0$ cross section. Predictions for future Electron-Ion Collider of China (EicC) energy range are done. It is found that transversity dominance $\sigma_T\gg\sigma_L$, observed at low energies is valid up to EicC energy range., Comment: 14 pages, 16 figures

The exclusive production of vector mesons and photons in $ep$ collisions is investigated considering three phenomenological saturation models based on distinct assumptions for the treatment of the dipole - hadron scattering amplitude. The latest high precision HERA data for the reduced and vector meson cross sections are used to update the saturation model proposed by Marquet - Peschanski - Soyez (MPS), which predicts that the saturation model is dependent of the squared momentum transfer $t$. The MPS predictions for the photon virtuality, energy and $t$ - dependencies of the exclusive $\rho$, $J/\Psi$ and DVCS cross sections are presented and a detailed comparison with the results derived using the impact parameter saturation models is performed. Our results indicate that a future experimental analysis of the $t$ - distribution $d\sigma/dt$ for exclusive processes in the kinematical range that will covered by the EIC and LHeC, considering the distinct photon polarizations and large values of $t$, will be able to discriminate between the distinct approaches for the QCD dynamics at high energies., Comment: 16 pages, 8 figures, 2 tables

Exclusive production of charmonium-like XYZ states in hadron–hadron ultraperipheral collisions (UPCs) and electron–proton scattering are studied employing the effective Lagrangian method. Total cross sections and rapidity distributions of charmonium-like XYZ states are obtained in hadron–hadron UPCs and the electron–proton scattering process. These predictions can be applied to estimate the observed event number of exclusive charmonium-like XYZ states in hadron–hadron UPCs and electron–proton scattering. The results indicate that it is significant to search X(3872) and $$Z^+_c(3900)$$ Z c + ( 3900 ) in pA UPCs, and the Electron–Ion Collider in China will be an advantageous platform to observe XYZ states in the future.

We present an analysis of the proton mass radius by studying the $t$-dependence of the differential cross sections of the vector meson photoproductions near the thresholds. At low energy, the photoproduction of a quarkonium off the proton is connected to the scalar gravitational form factor of the proton, which is sensitive to the proton mass distribution from the QCD trace anomaly. Under an assumption of the scalar form factor of dipole form, the proton mass radius is extracted via the near-threshold photoproduction data of J/$\psi$, $\phi$ and $\omega$ vector mesons. The average value of the proton mass radius is estimated to be $\sqrt{\left} = 0.67\pm0.03$ fm, with the dipole cutoff $m_{\rm s}=1.01\pm0.04$ GeV., Comment: 5 pages, 2 figures, minor modifications

The photoproduction of the bottomonium-like states and via scattering is studied within an effective Lagrangian approach and the vector-meson-dominance model. The Regge model is employed to calculate the photoproduction of states via the t-channel with exchange. The numerical results show that the values of the total cross-sections of and can reach 0.09 nb and 0.02 nb, respectively, near the center-of-mass energy of 22 GeV. Experimental measurements and studies of the photoproduction of states near the energy region around GeV are suggested. Moreover, with the help of eSTARlight and STARlight programs, we have obtained the cross-sections and numbers of events for production in electron-ion collisions (EIC) and ultraperipheral collisions (UPCs). The results show that a considerable number of events can be produced in the relevant experiments on EICs and UPCs. We have also calculated the rates and kinematic distributions for in and collisions via EICs and UPCs. The results will provide an important reference for the RHIC, LHC, EIC-US, LHeC, and FCC experiments in searching for bottomonium-like states.

Electro-production of several pentaquark states is investigated in this study. The eSTARlight package is adapted to study the electro-production of and via pentaquark and resonance channels in and scattering processes at the proposed electron-ion colliders (EICs). The results obtained in this study are compared to those of non-resonance t-channels, which are described in the pomeron exchange model developed in our studies. Some pseudo-rapidity and rapidity distributions of and are presented for the proposed EICs, including EicC and EIC-US. It is found that EicC is a good platform to identify states in the future.

In this paper we investigate the possibility of searching for the hidden-bottom pentaquark states in photon-induced interactions at the LHC. We consider the presence of the $P_b$ resonance in the $s$-channel of the $\gamma p \rightarrow \Upsilon p$ reaction and estimate its contribution for the exclusive $\Upsilon$ photoproduction in the fixed-target mode of the LHC. Predictions for the total cross sections, rapidity and transverse momentum distributions are derived using the STARlight Monte Carlo considering $Pb-p$, $Pb-He$ and $Pb-Ar$ fixed-target collisions at the LHC. Our results indicate that the presence of the $P_b$ resonance implies an enhancement in the rapidity distribution in the kinematical range covered by the LHCb detector. We demonstrate that the $P_b$ contribution for the $\Upsilon$ photoproduction becomes dominant if kinematical cuts are imposed on the rapidity and transverse momentum of the final state. These results indicate that an experimental analysis of the $\Upsilon$ photoproduction in fixed-target collisions can provide complementary and independent checks of the existence of these states, and help to understand their underlying nature., Comment: 10 pages, 3 figures, 1 table. arXiv admin note: text overlap with arXiv:1911.10886

We determine the leading Fock-state light front wave functions (LF-LFWFs) of the $\rho$ and J/$\psi$ mesons, for the first time from the Dyson-Schwinger and Bethe-Salpeter equations (DS-BSEs) approach. A unique advantage of this method is that it renders a direct extraction of LF-LFWFs in presence of a number of higher Fock-states. Modulated by the current quark mass and driven by the dynamical chiral symmetry breaking (DCSB), we find the $\rho$ and $J/\psi$ LF-LFWFs different in profile, i.e., the former are broadly distributed in $x$ (the longitudinal light-cone momentum fraction of meson carried by quark) while the latter are narrow. Moreover, the $\rho$ LF-LFWFs contribute less than 50% to the total Fock-state normalization, suggesting considerable higher Fock-states in $\rho$. We then use these LF-LFWFs to study the diffractive $\rho$ and $J/\psi$ electroproduction within the dipole picture. The calculated cross section shows general agreement with HEAR data, except for growing discrepancy in $\rho$ production at low photon virtuality. Inspired by the observation of the fully-charm tetraquark $X(6900)$ state at LHCb, the production of $X(6900)$ in $\overline{p}p\ensuremath{\rightarrow}J/\ensuremath{\psi}J/\ensuremath{\psi}$ reaction is studied within an effective Lagrangian approach and Breit-Wigner formula. The numerical results show that the cross section of $X(6900)$ at the c.m. energy of 6.9 GeV is much larger than that from the background contribution. Moreover, we estimate dozens of signal events can be detected by the D0 experiment, which indicates that searching for the $X(6900)$ via antiproton-proton scattering may be a very important and promising way. Therefore, related experiments are suggested to be carried out.

Rapidity distributions of vector mesons are computed in dipole model proton–lead ultraperipheral collisions (UPCs) at the CERN Larger Hadron Collider (LHC). The dipole model framework is implemented in the calculations of cross sections in the photon–hadron interaction. The bCGC model and Boosted Gaussian wave functions are employed in the scattering amplitude. We obtain predictions of rapidity distributions of J / ψ meson proton–lead ultraperipheral collisions. The predictions give a good description to the experimental data of ALICE. The rapidity distributions of ϕ, ω and ψ ( 2 s ) mesons in proton–lead ultraperipheral collisions are also presented in this paper.

The near-threshold photo-productions of heavy quarkonia are important ways to test the QCD-inspired models and to constrain the gluon distribution of nucleon in the large x region. Investigating the various models, we choose a photon–gluon fusion model and a pomeron exchange model for $$\hbox {J}/\varPsi $$J/Ψ photo-production near threshold, emphasising on the explanation of the recent experimental measurement by GlueX at JLab. We find that these two models are not only valid in a wide range of the center-of-mass energy of $$\gamma $$γ and proton, but also can be generalized to describe the $$\varUpsilon \hbox {(1S)}$$Υ(1S) photo-production. Using these two models, we predict the electro-production cross-sections of $$\varUpsilon \hbox {(1S)}$$Υ(1S) at EicC to be 48 fb to 85 fb at the center-of-mass energy of 16.75 GeV.

Due to the discovery of the hidden-charm pentaquark $P_c$ states by the LHCb collaboration, the interests on the candidates of hidden-bottom pentaquark $P_b$ states are increasing. They are anticipated to exist as the analogues of the $P_c$ states in the bottom sector and predicted by many models. We give an exploration of searching for a typical $P_b$ in the $\gamma p \to \Upsilon p$ reaction, which shows a promising potential to observe it at an electron-ion collider. The possibility of searching for $P_b$ in open-bottom channels are also briefly discussed. The incoherent rapidity distributions of vector mesons are computed in dipole model in PbPb ultraperipheral collisions at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The IIM model fitted from newer data is employed in the dipole amplitude. The Boosted Gaussian and Gaus-LC wave functions for vector mesons are implemented in the calculations as well. Predictions for the J / ψ , ψ ( 2 s ) , ρ and ϕ incoherent rapidity distributions are evaluated and compared with experimental data and other theoretical predictions in this paper. We obtain closer predictions of the incoherent rapidity distributions for J / ψ than previous calculations in the IIM model.

We calculate the coherent and incoherent production of J / ψ in PbPb ultraperipheral collisions (UPCs). The rapidity distributions of J / ψ in UPCs is the product of the photon flux distribution and the photon–nucleus cross section. The equivalent photon flux is computed in light-cone perturbation theory. The photon–nucleus cross section is calculated in the dipole model. We assume that two-gluon exchange contribution is coherent photonproduction cross section and the large- N c contribution provides an additional contribution to incoherent photonproduction cross section in photon–nucleus scattering. Our numerical results for the rapidity distributions of J / ψ production in PbPb UPCs at s N N = 2.76 TeV are compared to the experimental data measured by the ALICE Collaboration.

Ultraperipheral collisions (UPCs) of protons and nuclei are important for the study of the photoproduction of vector mesons and exotic states. The photoproduction of vector mesons in the pentaquark resonance channel in $p\mbox{-}Au$ UPCs at the Relative Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) and $p$-$Pb$ UPCs at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is investigated by employing STARlight package. The cross sections of vector mesons via pentaquark state resonances channel are obtained using effective Lagrangian method. The pseudo-rapidity and rapidity distributions of $J/\psi $ and $\Upsilon(1S) $ are given for $p\mbox{-}Au$ UPCs at the RHIC and $p$-$Pb$ at the LHC. It is found that the RHIC is a better platform for discovering the pentaquark states than the LHC. Moreover, $P_{b}(11080)$ is easier to identify than $P_c(4312)$ because the background of $\Upsilon (1S)$ is weaker than $J/\psi$ in the $t$-channel at the RHIC., Comment: 9 pages, 5 figures

Ultra-peripheral collisions (UPCs) of relativistic ions are an important tool for studying photoproduction at high energies. Vector meson photoproduction is an important tool for nuclear structure measurements and other applications. A future electron-ion collider (EIC) will allow additional studies, using virtual photons with a wide range of $Q^2$. We propose a significant expansion of the UPC and EIC photoproduction physics programs to include charged final states which may be produced via Reggeon exchange. We consider two examples: $a_2^+(1320)$, which is a conventional $q\overline q$ meson, and the exotic $Z_c^+(4430)$ state (modeled here as a tetraquark). The $Z_c^+(4430)$ cross-section depends on its internal structure, so photoproduction can test whether the $Z_c^+(4430)$ is a tetraquark or other exotic object. We calculate the rates and kinematic distributions for $\gamma p\rightarrow X^+n$ in $pA$ UPCs and $ep$ collisions at an EIC and in UPCs. The rates are large enough for detailed studies of these final states. Because the cross-section for Reggeon exchange is largest near threshold, the final state rapidity distribution depends on the beam energies. At high-energy colliders like the proposed LHeC or $pA$ collisions at the LHC, the final states are produced at far forward rapidities. Schistosomiasis is a devastating disease caused by Schistosoma infection. Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH) has emerged as a candidate vaccine component against Schistosoma japonicum, but only confers partial protection. Cytotoxic T lymphocyte antigen-4 (CTLA-4) regulates T cell activation and shows negative effects on vaccine-induced immune protection; however, its potential influence on the protective effects of a GAPDH vaccine against S. japonicum and the underlying mechanism remain unclear. In this study, we established a mouse model of S. japonicum infection, and the mice were randomly divided into uninfected, infected control, anti-CTLA-4 monoclonal antibody (anti-CTLA-4 mAb), GAPDH, and GAPDH combined with anti-CTLA-4 mAb groups to compare the protective effects against infection and the consequent tissue damage. The worm reduction rate in the GAPDH-treated infected mice was 26.58%, which increased to 54.61% when combined with anti-CTLA-4 mAb. The frequency of regulatory T cells (Tregs) was significantly higher in the anti-CTLA-4 mAb group and was lower in the GAPDH group. However, both anti-CTLA-4 mAb and GAPDH elevated the levels of the cytokines IFN-γ, IL-2, IL-4, and IL-5 in the spleens of infected mice, and their combination further enhanced cytokine production. The diameter of egg granuloma in the anti-CTLA-4 mAb group and combined treatment group increased significantly compared to that of the other groups. These results suggest that anti-CTLA-4 mAb can be used as an adjuvant to enhance the immune protection of the GAPDH vaccine via inducing the Th1 immune response, although this comes at the cost of enhanced body injury.

Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH) is a candidate subunit vaccine that induces protective immunity and elicits partial resistance to Schistosoma japonicum upon mouse and livestock vaccination. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of regulatory T cells (Tregs), which were defined as CD4+CD25+Foxp3+ cells, on the efficacy of a GAPDH vaccine against S. japonicum. BALB/c female mice were randomly divided into five groups as follows: normal, infected control, anti-CD25 monoclonal antibody (anti-CD25 mAb), GAPDH group, and co-treated with anti-CD25 mAb and GAPDH group. The worm reduction and liver egg reduction rates in the GAPDH group were 32.46% and 35.43%, respectively, which increased to 60.09% and 58.78%, respectively, after anti-CD25 mAb administration. Compared with those in the infected control group, the percentage of Tregs in the spleen decreased significantly when GAPDH and anti-CD25 mAb were used either alone or in combination. Furthermore, secretions associated with the Th1 response increased in splenocytes of the anti-CD25 mAb group, whereas the Th1 and Th2 responses increased in splenocytes of the GAPDH and co-treated groups. Compared to that in the infected control group, granuloma diameter in the GAPDH and co-treated groups increased slightly, but there were no significant differences among the groups. Our results indicate that the protective effect of the GAPDH vaccines can be improved by decreasing Tregs and enhancing the Th1- and Th2-type immune responses. Therefore, anti-CD25 mAb and GAPDH might exert synergistic effects to clear parasites by decreasing the frequency of Tregs and increasing the Th1- and Th2-type immune responses.

The measured electromagnetic form factors of $\Lambda$ hyperon in the time-like region are significantly deviated from pQCD prediction. We attribute the non-vanishing cross section near threshold to be the contribution of below-threshold $\phi$(2170) state, supporting its exotic structure. Above the threshold, we find significant role of a wide vector meson with the mass of around 2.34 GeV, which would be the same state present in $p\bar{p}$ annihilation reactions. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the expression of IFN-λ1 in respiratory epithelial cells of children with respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infection and its relationship with RSV load. METHODS: The nasopharyngeal swabs were collected from the children who were hospitalized with respiratory tract infection from June 2015 to June 2016. A direct immunofluorescence assay was used to detect the antigens of seven common respiratory viruses (including RSV) in the nasopharyngeal swabs. A total of 120 children who were only RSV positive were selected as the RSV infection group. A total of 50 children who had negative results in the detection of all viral antigens were selected as the healthy control group. Fluorescence quantitative real-time PCR was used to determine the RSV load and the expression of IFN-λ1 mRNA in the nasopharyngeal swabs of children in the two groups. RESULTS: The expression of IFN-λ1 in the RSV infection group was significantly higher than that in the healthy control group (P < 0.05). The expression of IFN-λ1 was positively correlated with RSV load (r=0.56, P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: RSV can induce the expression of IFN-λ1 in respiratory epithelial cells, suggesting that IFN-λ1 may play an important role in anti-RSV infection.

Mycoplasma pneumoniae (MP) is a leading cause of community-acquired pneumonia in children and young adults. Although MP pneumonia is usually benign and self-limited, in some cases it can develop into life-threating refractory MP pneumonia (RMPP). However, the pathogenesis of RMPP is poorly understood. The identification and characterization of proteins related to RMPP could provide a proof of principle to facilitate appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for treating paients with MP. In this study, we used a quantitative proteomic technique (iTRAQ) to analyze MP-related proteins in serum samples from 5 patients with RMPP, 5 patients with non-refractory MP pneumonia (NRMPP), and 5 healthy children. Functional classification, sub-cellular localization, and protein interaction network analysis were carried out based on protein annotation through evolutionary relationship (PANTHER) and Cytoscape analysis. A total of 260 differentially expressed proteins were identified in the RMPP and NRMPP groups. Compared to the control group, the NRMPP and RMPP groups showed 134 (70 up-regulated and 64 down-regulated) and 126 (63 up-regulated and 63 down-regulated) differentially expressed proteins, respectively. The complex functional classification and protein interaction network of the identified proteins reflected the complex pathogenesis of RMPP. Our study provides the first comprehensive proteome map of RMPP-related proteins from MP pneumonia. These profiles may be useful as part of a diagnostic panel, and the identified proteins provide new insights into the pathological mechanisms underlying RMPP.

The coherent cross section of $J/\psi$, $\rho$, $\phi$ are computed in dipole model in the ultraperipheral PbPb collisions, the IP-Sat and IIM model are applied in the calculation of the differential cross section of the dipole scattering off the nucleon, three kinds of forward vector meson wave functions are used in the overlap. The prediction of $J/\psi$ and $\rho$ is compared with the experimental data of the ALICE Collaboration, and the prediction of $\phi$ is also given in this paper.

Photoproduction of vector mesons are computed in dipole model in proton-proton ultraperipheral collisions(UPCs) at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC). Parameters of the bCGC model are refitted with the latest inclusive deep inelastic scattering experimental data. Employing the bCGC model and Boosted Gaussian light-cone wave function for vector mesons, we obtain prediction of rapidity distributions of $J/\psi$ and $\psi(2s)$ mesons in proton-proton ultraperipheral collisions at the LHC. The predictions give a good description to the experimental data of LHCb. AdS/QCD is implemented to calculate the basis light-front quantization (BLFQ) wave function for [Formula: see text] meson. Exclusive [Formula: see text] photoproduction is computed in the dipole picture using this holographic wave function. The bCGC model is employed in the calculation of [Formula: see text] production for dipole amplitude. The differential cross-sections and total cross-sections of [Formula: see text] meson are computed and compared with the experimental data. We find that the AdS/QCD holographic wave function in BLFQ can be employed as a new candidate for the light-front wave function of [Formula: see text] meson in diffractive process.

We consider a gedanken experiment of the scattering of a current off a large nucleus to study the gluon saturation at the small-x limit and compute the Sudakov factor of this process through a one-loop calculation. The differential cross section is expressed in term of the Sudakov resummation, in which the collinear and the rapidity divergences are subtracted. We also discuss how to probe the Weizsaecker-Williams (WW) gluon distribution in the process of photon pair production in the pA collisions., 7 pages, 6 figures

This study was aimed to investigate the expression and activity of membrane surface tissue factor (TF) of monocytes and platelets in peripheral blood cells from patients with cerebral infarction and their clinical significance. The TF expressions in monocytes and platelets from 25 patients with cerebral infarction were detected by flow cytometry, the TF activity was detected by chromogenic reaction method, and compared with 24 normal people used as control. The results showed that the TF expressions of monocytes and platelets in peripheral blood cells from patients with cerebral infarction were significantly higher than that in normal controls (p0.01), and TF activity was also higher in patients than that in controls (p0.01). In conclusion, the expression and activity of membrane surface in patients with cerebral infarction were enhanced, the hematocyte-derived tissue factor as a trigger in coagulation pathway is involved in pathological thrombosis in patients with cerebral infarction.
