1. An Adaptive Large Neighborhood Search Heuristic for the Electric Vehicle Routing Problems with Time Windows and Recharging Strategies

Abstract

This study addresses a new electric vehicle routing problem with time windows and recharging strategies (EVRPTW-RS), where two recharging policies (i.e., full or partial recharging) and three recharging technologies (i.e., normal, rapid, and ultra-rapid) are considered. For this problem, we first develop a mixed-integer linear programming model defined in a series of vertices including a depot, a series of recharging stations, and a set of customers. Due to the strong NP-hardness of EVRPTW-RS, a tailored adaptive large neighborhood search heuristic (ALNS) which contains a number of advanced efficient procedures tailored to handle the proposed problem is developed. Numerical experiments for benchmark instances generated based on the Greater Toronto Area and Ontario in Canada are conducted to evaluate the performance of the proposed model and ALNS. Computational results demonstrate that the ALNS is highly effective in solving EVRPTW-RS and outperforms commercial solver CPLEX. Moreover, the advantages of the proposed recharging strategies are illustrated and some recommendations are provided for stakeholders when using electric vehicles for delivery.

Abstract

Textile-based electrodes are a potential choice for wearable and continuous monitoring of electrocardiogram measurements. In this paper, we present a novel composite textile electrode for ECG measurement. We chosen cotton jersey knit fabric as the substrate. Based on the substrate, polypyrrole (PPy) was coated chemically only and plated chemically electrochemically successively, respectively, to form PPy/cotton fabric composite electrode. The obtained results suggest that, first, both the composite electrodes can measure the ECG signals including P-waves, QRS complex and T-waves clearly, second, both the composite electrodes are poorer frequency dependence than Ag/AgCl electrode, and the one deposited chemically only is the poorest, whats more, the composite electrode deposited chemically only obtains the highest signal to noise ratio (SNR).

Abstract

Purpose: To investigate the effect of microenvironment maintenance on embryo culture and clinical results using two types of incubators. Methods: Temperature and oxygen concentration in a mini-incubator and a conventional incubator were compared following a 5-s door opening/closing procedure. Embryos of 30 in-vitro fertilization embryo transfer (IVF-ET) cases were randomly allocated to either one of the incubator, cultured, and the early-stage good embryo formation rate and the good blastocyst formation rate were compared, as indicators for micro-environment maintenance ability. Results: Temperature recovery after a 5-s door opening/closing procedure was approximately 5 min for the mini-incubator and 30 min for the conventional incubator. The oxygen concentration return was significantly improved in the mini-incubator (3.0 ± 0 min) compared with the conventional incubator (7.8 ± 0.9 min). Both the early-stage good embryo formation rate and the good blastocyst formation rate were significantly higher in the mini-incubator (39.5% and 15.1%) than the conventional incubator (28.4% and 7.8%). Conclusion: The microenvironment maintenance ability of incubators appears to significantly influence the formation of good embryos.
