Objective.Artificial neural networks (ANNs) are state-of-the-art tools for modeling and decoding neural activity, but deploying them in closed-loop experiments with tight timing constraints is challenging due to their limited support in existing real-time frameworks. Researchers need a platform that fully supports high-level languages for running ANNs (e.g. Python and Julia) while maintaining support for languages that are critical for low-latency data acquisition and processing (e.g. C and C++).Approach.To address these needs, we introduce the Backend for Realtime Asynchronous Neural Decoding (BRAND). BRAND comprises Linux processes, termednodes, which communicate with each other in agraphvia streams of data. Its asynchronous design allows for acquisition, control, and analysis to be executed in parallel on streams of data that may operate at different timescales. BRAND uses Redis, an in-memory database, to send data between nodes, which enables fast inter-process communication and supports 54 different programming languages. Thus, developers can easily deploy existing ANN models in BRAND with minimal implementation changes.Main results.In our tests, BRAND achieved

Rabies is endemic in Sudan with continuing outbreaks occurring annually, the most common animals affected are dogs, followed by goats and equids. This work focused on equid rabies, to elucidate the current situation of the disease through analysis of reports of equid rabies outbreaks in Sudan during 2010–2022 supported by laboratory confirmation of the disease. During the study period, 66 animals were affected during 35 equid rabies outbreaks. The highest incidences were found in Al Gezira (30.3%), followed by Darfur (24.2%) and Kordofan (15.2%). The highest incidence rate was observed during 2018 (33.3%), followed by 2015 (16.7%). Within seasons, the highest incidence rate was reported during October – December (33.3%), followed by July – September (30.3%). Chi-square analysis revealed a significant correlation between rabid animals and year, season, and state. Wald statistics demonstrated that year and season had a significant association with the disease. Virus antigen was identified (72.2%) in brain tissues using the fluorescent antibody test. Viral nucleic acid was amplified (n = 6) with a reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction assay. Contribution: As equids are kept in close contact with humans and other animals in the country, according to the present investigation, equid rabies in Sudan is a potential public health concern, emphasising the importance of implementing effective control measures.

Carbon-based materials have attracted significant attention in various catalytic applications. However, they are rarely reported for high-temperature catalytic reactions, owing to their limited thermal stability compared to other common materials such as silica and alumina, especially in oxidation reactions. CO2 methanation became a pivotal research hotspot due to its ability to contribute to greenhouse gas mitigation. In addition, CO2 methanation reactions can be carried out below 400 °C in a hydrogen atmosphere, which suits the thermal stability of many modified carbon materials. However, the number of reviews on CO2 methanation does not match the huge number of the experimental publications on CO2 methanation particularly reviews on carbon-supported catalysts. Motivated by the paucity of literature, including reviews on carbon-supported catalysts for CO2 methanation, this review is focused on the catalytic performance of the carbon-supported catalysts of CO2 methanation. It offers significant comparisons among all reported carbon-supported catalysts, providing a comprehensive study on the effect of the carbonaceous supports, such as graphene, biochar, and carbon nanotubes on the catalytic activity. In addition, it investigates the impact of promoters on the catalytic performance of the carbon-supported catalysts in CO2 methanation and highlights the preparation methods and their optimized metal compositions that lead to the highest activity and selectivity. We conclude with a brief synopsis on the current challenges and perspectives on the future directions. This study paves the way for broader usage of carbon-supported catalysts for different thermal catalytic applications, not limited to CO2 methanation.

Objective: The primary goal of this investigation was to ascertain the efficacy of the CALM® motion artifact reduction algorithm in diminishing motion-induced blurriness in Cone Beam Computed Tomography [CBCT] images. The assessment was conducted through Fractal Dimension [FD] analysis of the trabecular bone. Methods and Materials: A desiccated human mandible was subjected to Planmeca ProMax 3D® scanning under eight distinct protocols, marked by variations in motion presence [at 5, 10, and 15 degrees] and the deployment of CALM®. In every scan, five distinct regions of interest [ROIs] were designated for FD analysis, meticulously avoiding tooth roots or cortical bone. The FD was computed employing the box-counting method with Image-J 1.53 software. Results: Our findings reveal that a 5-degree motion does not significantly disrupt FD analysis, while a 10-degree motion and beyond exhibit statistical differences and volatility among the sites and groups. A decreased FD value, signifying a less intricate or “rough” bone structure, correlated with amplified motion blurriness. The utilization of CALM® software seemed to counteract this effect in some instances, reconciling FD values to those akin to the control groups. Nonetheless, CALM®’s efficacy differed across sites and motion degrees. Interestingly, at one site, CALM® application in the absence of motion resulted in FD values considerably higher than all other groups. Conclusion: The study indicates that motion, particularly at 10 degrees or more, can considerably impact the FD analysis of trabecular bone in CBCT images. In some situations, the CALM® motion artifact reduction algorithm can alleviate this impact, though its effectiveness fluctuates depending on the site and degree of motion. This underscores the necessity of factoring in motion and the employment of artifact reduction algorithms during the interpretation of FD analysis outcomes in CBCT imaging. More research is necessary to refine the application of such algorithms and to comprehend their influence on different sites under varying motion degrees.

Abstract Corrosion inhibition of molybdenum electrode in H3PO4 acid medium of different concentrations (3.0 to 13 M) has been investigated utilizing different electrochemical techniques. It was observed that the most corrosive concentration is 3.0 M orthophosphoric acid concentration. The effect of adding Cl− to 3.0 M orthophosphoric acid in the concentration range of 0.1 to 1.0 M was also studied. This study showed that the most corrosive medium is 3.0 M containing 1.0 M chloride ion with the greatest rate of hydrogen production. In 3.0 M H3PO4 acid with 1.0 M of NaCl, the tested electrode's corrosion and hydrogen production may be successfully suppressed by adding Streptomycin of 10 mM concentration leading to high inhibition efficiency. The outcomes of the studies were confirmed by scanning electron microscopic examination. Additionally, a computational chemistry approach was used to investigate how streptomycin adsorbs and inhibits corrosion at the interface of metal surfaces, and the outcomes of the computational studies are in excellent accord with the experimental findings.

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) have been widely used both in military and civil across the world in recent years. Nevertheless, their design always involves complex design optimization variables and decisions. Therefore, this paper aims to guide through the designing, manufacturing, and testing of an electrically powered radio-controlled aircraft for achieving a take-off, cruise, safe landing and carrying the highest payload possible. The whole process involves several phases, design phase, structural analysis, performance analysis, materials used, manufacturing, and finally aircraft testing. The final aircraft was designed with an empty weight and maximum take-off weight of 15.43 Ibs and 33.07 Ibs respectively while the wingspan, cruising speed and maximum speed were 70.1 in., 46 ft/s and 78 ft/sec respectively with a total take-off distance of 100 ft.

Maize is the third important cereal crop after wheat and rice, especially in Egyptian villages. It is used in baking as a substitution component in wheat products and a main component in snacks for children. The target of this study was to estimate the risk assessment of lead (Pb) and cadmium (Cd) in maize grains cultivated in the agricultural soil irrigated by the contaminated water in comparison with that irrigated by freshwater. Lead (Pb) and cadmium (Cd) levels in irrigation water, soils and maize grains collected from different sites in Egypt were determined using ICP-OES. The studied samples were collected from 5 agricultural sites irrigated with freshwater (Nile River water and groundwater) as well as 4 agricultural sites irrigated with low-quality water (contaminated by sewage and industrial wastewater). Results exhibited that the levels of Pb and Cd in soil and maize grains were significantly affected by their levels in irrigation water; where, the levels of Pb and Cd in soil and maize grains irrigated by low-quality water possessed the multiple concentrations in comparison with those irrigated by freshwater.
