Abstract

The Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) Collaboration recently published the first images of the supermassive black holes in the cores of the Messier 87 and Milky Way galaxies. These observations have provided a new means to study supermassive black holes and probe physical processes occurring in the strong-field regime. We review the prospects of future observations and theoretical studies of supermassive black hole systems with the next-generation Event Horizon Telescope (ngEHT), which will greatly enhance the capabilities of the existing EHT array. These enhancements will open up several previously inaccessible avenues of investigation, thereby providing important new insights into the properties of supermassive black holes and their environments. This review describes the current state of knowledge for five key science cases, summarising the unique challenges and opportunities for fundamental physics investigations that the ngEHT will enable., Comment: To be submitted to journal. 2. The spin and mass ratio affects the gravitational waveforms of binary black hole mergers with a total system mass of 12-130 $\rm{M}_\odot$

Abstract

Analyzing the observations obtained by the LIGO and the Virgo Collaborations, a new era has begun in binary black hole (BBH) merger processes and black hole physics studies. The fact that very massive stars that will become black holes at the end of their evolution are in binary or multiple states adds particular importance to BBH studies. In this study, using the SEOBNRv4$\_opt$ gravitational waveform model developed for compact binary systems, many ($\sim 10^6$) models were produced under different initial conditions, and the pre- and post-merge parameters were compared. In the models, it is assumed that the initial total mass (M$_{\rm{tot}}$) of the binary systems varies between 12-130 $\rm{M}_\odot$ with step interval 1$\rm{M}_\odot$, the mass ratios ($q = \rm{m}_{1i}/\rm{m}_{2i}$) vary between 1 and 2 with step interval 0.004, and the initial spin ($\abs{\rchi_{1i}} = \abs{\rchi_{2i}}$) value varies between $-0.83$ and $+0.83$ with step interval 0.017. Final spin ($\rchi_{f}$), fractional mass loss (M$_{FL}$), and the maximum gravitational wave amplitude (h$_{\rm{max}}$) obtained during the merger were compared with appropriate tables and figures obtained from the results of the relativistic numeric model obtained according to the initial parameters. Our results show that M$_{\rm{FL}}$ in generated BBH coalescences varied about 2.7 to 9.2\%, and $\rchi_{\rm{f}}$ between 0.29 and 0.91. In most of the BBHs we have modeled, we found that M$_{\rm{FL}}$ varies inversely with $q$. However, it has been found that M$_{\rm{FL}}$ values are not always inversely varied to the $q$ parameter in systems of opposite initial spin, where the large mass black hole component is positively oriented. Accordingly, it is understood that the values of M$_{\rm{FL}}$ decrease to a certain point of $q$ and then increase according to the increasing direction of $q$., Comment: 29 pages, 5 figure, 5 tables, submitted for publication

Abstract

Almost a hundred compact binary mergers have been detected via gravitational waves by the LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA collaboration in the past few years providing us with a significant amount of new information on black holes and neutron stars. In addition to observations, numerical simulations using newly developed modern codes in the field of gravitational wave physics will guide us to understand the nature of single and binary degenerate systems and highly energetic astrophysical processes. We here presented a set of new fully general relativistic hydrodynamic simulations of high-mass binary neutron star systems using the open-source Einstein Toolkit and LORENE codes. We considered systems with total baryonic masses ranging from 2.8 $M_\odot$ to 4.0 $M_\odot$ and used the SLy equation of state. We analyzed the gravitational wave signal for all models and reported potential indicators of systems undergoing rapid collapse into a black hole that could be observed by future detectors like the Einstein Telescope and the Cosmic Explorer. The properties of the post-merger black hole, the disk and ejecta masses, and their dependence on the binary parameters were also extracted. We also compared our numerical results with recent analytical fits presented in the literature and provided parameter-dependent semi-analytical relations between the total mass and mass ratio of the systems and the resulting black hole masses and spins, merger frequency, BH formation time, ejected mass, disk mass, and radiated gravitational wave energy., Comment: 12 pages, 6 figures, 5 tables, Accepted for publication in MNRAS

We present results of a long-term photometric multicolor optical monitoring project of selected low-mass and high-mass X-ray binaries carried out at the T\"UB\.ITAK National Observatory (TUG). New long-term $VRI$ multicolor observations of three selected X-ray binaries with neutron star components (HZ Her, ScoX-1, SAX J2103.5+4545) were observed between 2015 and 2019 with the TUG 60-cm telescope. We obtained new multicolour photometry of close binary stars in the young open cluster M35, the solar-age open cluster M67, and the globular cluster M71. New observations have been carried out at the T\"{U}B\.{I}TAK National Observatory (TUG) by using the 100cm (T100) telescope. We present observational results for eclipsing binary systems in the selected Galactic clusters. New accurate light curves for 2MASS J19532554 + 1851175, 2MASS J19533427 + 1844047, 2MASS J06092044 + 2415155, and AH Cnc were obtained. Abstract

We present observations and analysis of an RS CVn-type double-lined eclipsing binary system, RU Cnc. The system has been observed for over a century. The high-quality long-cadence \emph{Kepler} K2 C5 and C18, newly obtained observations, and two radial velocity curves were combined and analyzed simultaneously assuming multi-spot model. The masses, radii and luminosities of the component stars are precisely obtained as $M_\textrm{c} = 1.386\pm0.044\, M_{_\odot}$, $M_\textrm{h} = 1.437 \pm 0.046\, M{_\odot}$, $R_\textrm{h} = 2.39\pm 0.07\, R{_\odot}$, $R_\textrm{c} = 5.02 \pm 0.08\, R{_\odot}$, $L_\textrm{h} = 11.4\pm 1.2\, L{_\odot}$, $L_\textrm{c} = 12.0 \pm 1.0\, L{_\odot}$ and with a separation of $\textrm{a} = 27.914 \pm 0.016\, R{_\odot}$. The distance of the system is determined to be $380\pm 57\,$ pc which is consistent with the Gaia DR2 result. Long-term detailed period variation analysis of the system indicate a period decrease of $7.9\times10^{-7}$ days per year. The results suggest the cooler component to be on the red giant branch (RGB) and the hotter one to be still on the main sequence., Comment: 7 pages, 5 figures, 6 tables. Abstract

The grand challenges of contemporary fundamental physics---dark matter, dark energy, vacuum energy, inflation and early universe cosmology, singularities and the hierarchy problem---all involve gravity as a key component. And of all gravitational phenomena, black holes stand out in their elegant simplicity, while harbouring some of the most remarkable predictions of General Relativity: event horizons, singularities and ergoregions. The hitherto invisible landscape of the gravitational Universe is being unveiled before our eyes: the historical direct detection of gravitational waves by the LIGO-Virgo collaboration marks the dawn of a new era of scientific exploration. Gravitational-wave astronomy will allow us to test models of black hole formation, growth and evolution, as well as models of gravitational-wave generation and propagation. It will provide evidence for event horizons and ergoregions, test the theory of General Relativity itself, and may reveal the existence of new fundamental fields. The synthesis of these results has the potential to radically reshape our understanding of the cosmos and of the laws of Nature. 8. Models for Sixty Double-Lined Binaries containing Giants

Abstract

The observed masses, radii and temperatures of 60 medium- to long-period binaries, most of which contain a cool, evolved star and a hotter less-evolved one, are compared with theoretical models which include (a) core convective overshooting, (b)mass loss, possibly driven by dynamo action as in RS CVn binaries, and (c) tidal friction, including its effect on orbital period through magnetic braking. A reasonable fit is found in about 42 cases, but in 11 other cases the primaries appear to have lost either more mass or less mass than the models predict, and in 4 others the orbit is predicted to be either more or less circular than observed. Of the remaining 3 systems, two ($\gamma$ Per and HR 8242) have a markedly `over-evolved' secondary, our explanation being that the primary component is the merged remnant of a former short-period sub-binary in a former triple system. The last system (V695 Cyg) defies any agreement at present. Mention is also made of three other systems (V643 Ori, OW Gem and V453 Cep), which are relevant to our discussion.

9. The low-mass interacting binary system OO Aql revisited: a new quadruple system

Abstract

In this study we present photometric and spectroscopic variation analysis and orbital period study of a low-mass interacting system OO Aql. Simultaneous solution of the light and radial velocity curves provide us a determination of new set of stellar physical parameters for the primary and the secondary companion as M$_{1}$ = 1.05(2) M$_{\odot}$, M$_{2}$ = 0.89(2) M$_{\odot}$, R$_{1}$ = 1.38(2) R$_{\odot}$, R$_{2}$ = 1.28(2) R$_{\odot}$, $\log{(L_1/L_{\odot})} = 0.258$ and $\log{(L_2/L_{\odot})} = 0.117$ and the separation of the components were determined a = 3.333(16) R$_{\odot}$. Newly obtained parameters yield the distance of the system as 136(8) pc. Analyses of the mid-eclipse times indicate a period increase of $\frac{P}{\dot{P}}=4\times 10^{7}$ yr that can be interpreted in terms of the mass transfer $\frac{dM}{dt}=5\times 10^{-8}$ M$_{\odot}$/yr from the less massive component to the more massive component. Our new solution confirmed that OO Aql is a multiple system in the form of AB + C + D. We found initial astrophysical parameters for the component of the system and its current age to be 8.6 Gyr using nonconservative stellar evolution model (EV-TWIN code)., Comment: Accepted for publication in the Astronomical Journal (10 pages, including 3 figures and 4 tables)

10. The Interacting Early-Type Binary V382 Cyg

Abstract

We present photometric and spectroscopic data analysis and orbital period study of an early-type interacting binary system V382 Cyg by using all the available data. We made a simultaneous light and radial velocity curve solution. The derived physical parameters of the primary and secondary stellar components are $M_{1}$ = 27.9(5) $M_{\odot}$, $M_{2}$ = 20.8(4) $M_{\odot}$, $R_{1}$ = 9.7(2) $R_{\odot}$, $R_{2}$ = 8.5(2) $R_{\odot}$, $\log{(L_1/L_{\odot})} = 5.152(20)$ and $\log{(L_2/L_{\odot})} = 4.954(19)$ while the separation of the components is {\it a} = 23.4 $R_{\odot}$. Newly obtained parameters yield the distance of the system as 1466(76) pc. Analyses of the mid-eclipse times indicate a period increase of $\frac{dP}{dt}=4.2(1)\times 10^{-7}$ days/yr that can be interpreted in terms of the high mass transfer ($\frac{dM}{dt}=6.1(5)\times 10^{-6}$ $M_{\odot}$/yr) from the less massive component to the more massive component. Finally we modelled the evolution of the components using nonconservative codes and discussed the obtained results. 12. Variation of the Light and Period of the Magnetic Cataclysmic Variable Am Her

Abstract

Ground-based long-term optic variability of AM Her, covering the period between 2003-2008, has been conducted to study the features seen in both low and high states of the system. Low-state analysis shows the presence of short-term, low-amplitude light variations of about 0.02-0.03 mag with a mean power time between 16 s and 226 s. Brightness variations on the order of 0.7--2 mag, which could be due to the stellar activity of the component in the system, are also detected. A total of 30 years times of minimum light given in the literature are combined with nine times of minima obtained in this study. We represented the (observed--calculated) diagram by a parabolic curve and also by two broken lines. Under the assumption of a parabolic variation, we estimate an increase in period, dP/dt=7.5(1.2)x10^{-9} days yr^{-1}, with a mass transfer rate of dM/dt = 8(2)x10^{-9} M_{\odot} yr^{-1}, in agreement with the previous findings by a different method., Comment: 14 pages, 5 figures

16. Short and Long-term Observations of X-ray Binaries with Neutron Star Components

Abstract

New long and short-term photometric variations of the selected high-mass (HMXB) and low-mass (LMXB) X-ray binaries with neutron star components are studied in this study. We obtained new observations of the systems during 2015-2021 with B, V, R and I filters at TUBITAK National Observatory (TUG) with 60cm and 100cm telescopes. We analyzed the new observation sets, we obtained by combining all available datasets in the literature. In addition to optical datasets, observations obtained with X-ray telescopes were also used in the analysis. Using these datasets, we got new periods for selected binary systems and multiple periods for some systems.

Abstract

M71 is a crucial galactic globular cluster due to its metal-rich property and many binary systems. As a result of the development of new observation and reduction techniques and telescopes, we can better obtain the light changes of cluster member stars today. In this study, we obtained new observations of the M71 globular cluster. Abstract

© 2019 IOP Publishing Ltd. The grand challenges of contemporary fundamental physics-dark matter, dark energy, vacuum energy, inflation and early universe cosmology, singularities and the hierarchy problem-all involve gravity as a key component. And of all gravitational phenomena, black holes stand out in their elegant simplicity, while harbouring some of the most remarkable predictions of General Relativity: event horizons, singularities and ergoregions. The hitherto invisible landscape of the gravitational Universe is being unveiled before our eyes: the historical direct detection of gravitational waves by the LIGO-Virgo collaboration marks the dawn of a new era of scientific exploration. Gravitational-wave astronomy will allow us to test models of black hole formation, growth and evolution, as well as models of gravitational-wave generation and propagation. It will provide evidence for event horizons and ergoregions, test the theory of General Relativity itself, and may reveal the existence of new fundamental fields. The synthesis of these results has the potential to radically reshape our understanding of the cosmos and of the laws of Nature. The purpose of this work is to present a concise, yet comprehensive overview of the state of the art in the relevant fields of research, summarize important open problems, and lay out a roadmap for future progress. This write-up is an initiative taken within the framework of the European Action on 'Black holes, Gravitational waves and Fundamental Physics'.

Abstract

Çok hassas duyarlılığa sahip Kepler Uzay Teleskobu’nun elde ettiği fotometrik gözlemler bize yıldızlarda gerçekleşen fiziksel süreçlerin detaylı olarak incelenmesine olanak sağlar. Bu çalışmada, yarı-ayrık bir sistem olan KIC 3347485 çift yıldızının uzun dönemli ışık değişim analizi yapılmıştır. Sistemin yaklaşık 1500 günlük gözlemi süresince elde edilen çok sayıda ışık eğrilerinin baş ve yan minimum orta noktalarına karşılık gelen zaman ve normalize akı değerlerinin değişimleri hesaplanmıştır. Bu şekilde sistemin minimum evrelerindeki fotometrik değişimi ele alınmıştır. Sistemin ayrıca dönem değişim analizi de yapılarak fotometrik değişime neden olan süreçler ortaya konmuştur.

Abstract

Bu çalışmada RS CVn türü örten bir çift yıldız sistemi olan RU Cnc sisteminin hassas Kepler K2 ve TUG T60 gözlemlerinden yararlanarak bileşenlerin fiziksel ve yörüngesel parametreleri elde edildi. Analizler, RU Cnc sisteminin literatürde bulunan iki dikine hız eğrisi ve yeni elde edilen veriler birleştirilerek yapılmıştır. Yapılan analizler sonucunda bileşenlerin kütle ve yarıçapları $M_{1}$=1.39$M_{\odot}$, $M_{2}$=1.44$M_{\odot}$, $R_{1}$=2.39$R_{\odot}$, $R_{2}$=5.02$R_{\odot}$ olarak elde edilmiştir.

Abstract

Bu çalışmada örten Wolf-Rayet (WR) çift sistemlerinden biri olan V444 Cygni (WR139) sisteminin TÜBİTAK Ulusal Gözlemevi'nde (TUG) bulunan T60 teleskobu kullanılarak elde edilen çokrenk fotometrik gözlemlerine ilişkin ilk sonuçlar verilmiştir. 2015-2018 yılları arasında yapılan yeni gözlemlerden 4.2 gün yörünge dönemine sahip olan sistemin U, B, V, R ve I bandlarında tam ışık eğrisi elde edilmiştir.

Abstract

GR kuramına göre enerji-momentum tensörü veya kütle, uzay-zamanı etkiler ve büker. Buna göre bu bükülmüş alanda bir parçacığın veya ışığın takip edeceği yolda bundan etkilecektir. Zayıf ya da güçlü merceklemeye uğrayan geometrik durumun incelenmesi sonucunda merceklemeye uğrayan ve mercekleme yapan cisimler hakkında bilgiler edinmemiz mümkün. Mercekleme yapan cismin bir kara delik olması durumunda mercekleme etkisinin nasıl olacağı, kara deliğin farklı geometrik durumu için ne tür mercekleme etkilerinin gözlemsel olarak karşımıza çıkabileceği gibi temel sorular bu çalışma kapsamında ele alınmıştır. Mercekleme yapan cismin kara delik olması durumunda Schwarzschild, Kerr veya Kerr-Newman türü kara delikler durumunda farklı alan denklemlerinin çözümleri sunulacak ve bu mercekleme olayında ne tür mercekleme geometrileri olacağı gözlemler ile karşılaştırılarak tartışılacaktır.

Abstract

The grand challenges of contemporary fundamental physics-dark matter, dark energy, vacuum energy, inflation and early universe cosmology, singularities and the hierarchy problem-all involve gravity as a key component. And of all gravitational phenomena, black holes stand out in their elegant simplicity, while harbouring some of the most remarkable predictions of General Relativity: event horizons, singularities and ergoregions. The hitherto invisible landscape of the gravitational Universe is being unveiled before our eyes: the historical direct detection of gravitational waves by the LIGO-Virgo collaboration marks the dawn of a new era of scientific exploration. Gravitational-wave astronomy will allow us to test models of black hole formation, growth and evolution, as well as models of gravitational-wave generation and propagation. It will provide evidence for event horizons and ergoregions, test the theory of General Relativity itself, and may reveal the existence of new fundamental fields. The synthesis of these results has the potential to radically reshape our understanding of the cosmos and of the laws of Nature. The purpose of this work is to present a concise, yet comprehensive overview of the state of the art in the relevant fields of research, summarize important open problems, and lay out a roadmap for future progress. This write-up is an initiative taken within the framework of the European Action on 'Black holes, Gravitational waves and Fundamental Physics'.

Bu tezde, ışık eğrilerinin modellenmesine ilişkin ön bilgiler verildikten sonra, bu amaçla geliştirilen yazılımlar kısaca tanıtılmıştır. Çok aktif bir RS CVn türü örten çift olan RT Andromedae yıldızı Ege Üniversitesi Gözlemevi'nde 15 gece gözlenerek iki ayrı ışık eğrisi elde edilmiştir. Bu veriler ile son 60 yılda başka araştırmacılar tarafından elde edilen veriler biraraya getirilmiştir. Bu veriler yardımı ile RT And'a ilişkin O-C analizi, maksimum parlaklığın ve seçilmiş dört özel evredeki parlaklığın yıllara göre değişimi incelenmiştir. Bugüne değin elde edilen 30 adet ışık eğrisi Wilson-Devinney yöntemi ile çözülmüş, aktivitenin (leke) yıllara göre değişimi araştırılmıştır. Çiftin yörünge döneminin en azından farklı iki nedenle değişime uğradığı sonucuna varılmıştır. Bunlardan birincisi, üçüncü bir cismin çevresinde yaklaşık 350 yıllık bir dolanım, ikincisi de yıldızın manyetik etkinliği nedeni ile yaklaşık 40 yıllık değişimdir. Işık eğrisindeki değişimlerden giderek manyetik çevrimin 20 yıl dolayında olduğu önerilmiştir. Işık eğrisinin analizi ile sıcak yıldızın yüzeyindeki lekelerin genellikle 90° ve 250° boylamlarında toplandığı sonucuna varılmıştır. VII ABSTRACT LIGHT CURVE MODELLING OF THE ECLIPSING BINARIES WITH ACTIVE COMPONENTS YAKUT, Kadri MSc in Astronomy and Space Sciences Supervisor: Prof. Dr. Cafer İBANO?LU 2001, 119 pages In this thesis, an introduction on the light curve modelling is given along with the descriptions of softwares developed for this purpose. Two seperate light curves of very active RS CVn type eclipsing binary RT And have been obtained within 15 nights. These data have been combined with the others obtained by several researchers during the last 60 years. With the aid of all these data an O-C analysis has been performed, and furthermore, the brightnesses of the maxima and the selected four special phases have been investigated as a function of time. 30 light curves which have been obtained up to now have been analyzed with the Wilson-Devinney method and the variation of the activity versus years has been investigated. The orbital period of the binary has been found to be variable due to at least two different causes. One of them is due the revolution of the binary around a third body with a period of about 350 yrs and the other is due to magnetic activity of the one of the component with a period of about 40 yrs. According to the light curve variations the period of the magnetic cycle is proposed to be about 20 yrs. By the analsis of the light curves it was found that the spots on the surface of the hotter component are distributed over the longitudes of 90° and 250°. 45. Cyclotron Resonant Heating and Acceleration of protons, O VI & Mg X ions in the North Polar Coronal Hole.

Abstract

Ultraviolet Coronograph Spectrometer aboard Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) has revealed the existence of temperature anisotropy of many minor ion species that populate the north solar polar coronal hole. In this study, we examined the propagation characteristics of ion-cyclotron waves which resonate with protons, O VI and Mg X ions. In our empirical model, radial variation of the magnetic field, electron and ion number densities, perpendicular and parallel temperature of protons, O VI and Mg X ions are adopted from the measurements of various instruments aboard SOHO. Since most of the measurements of SOHO instruments begin at ... where the collisionless plasma properties dominate towards the outer regions, we assumed bi--Maxwellian velocity distribution functions for protons, O VI and Mg X ions. Dispersion relation for the left circularly polarized ion cyclotron waves which are assumed to be generated at the bottom of the coronal hole is deduced. We do not consider the in situ generation of these waves. We found that ion cyclotron waves with frequency band 2.5 kHz - 10 kHz come into resonance with O VI ions between 1:5 R - 3:0 R. We also solved the dispersion relations for protons and Mg X ions in the same distance range and have shown that the waves of 2.5 kHz - 10 kHz frequency band preferentially heat the O VI ions. O VI ions come into resonance with ion cyclotron waves of certain frequency long before the protons and the Mg X ions. We do not know the evolution of the power spectrum of these waves. Therefore it is hard to tell if, after having been depleted partly (if not, totally) by O VI ions, any power is left over from ion cyclotron waves for either protons or Mg X ions. But if cyclotron resonance process is to be favored for the perpendicular heating, then we may hypothesize that ion cyclotron waves, after having heated the OVI ions first, have enough power left to heat protons and Mg X ions in the same distance range. Abstract

Gravitasyonel dalgalara ilişkin ilk doğrudan gözlemi çift durumundaki bir kara delik birleşme olayı olan GW150914 ile olmuştur. Günümüzde gravitasyonel dalga kaynakları üzerine yapılan çalışmalar bu gözlem ile ivme kazanmıştır. Son yıllarda yapılan gözlemler ve çalışmalar evrende bulunan yoğun cisimlerin doğasının anlaşılmasına yardımcı olmaktadır. Bu yüksek lisans tezinde, önemli gravitasyonel dalga kaynaklarından biri olan çift nötron yıldız sistemlerinin birleşme öncesi, birleşme anı ve birleşme sonrası dönemleri çalışılmıştır. Farklı başlangıç sistem kütlesine ve farklı bileşen kütle oranlarına sahip sistemler, açık kaynak kodlu yazılımlar kullanılarak modellenmiş ve nümerik relativite tabanlı simülasyonlar aracılığıyla analiz edilmiştir. Sonuç olarak farklı parametrelerin sistemin gravitasyonel dalga formuna ve hidrodinamik süreçlerine nasıl etki ettiği tartışılmıştır., With the first direct gravitational waves observation, GW150914, the number of current studies on gravitational wave sources increases. Recent observations and studies provide us an opportunity to understand the nature of compact objects. In this thesis, inspiral, merger and post-merger stages of binary neutron star systems, which is one of the important gravitational sources, are studied. Systems with different initial system masses and mass ratio are modelled using publicly available software and analyzed using numerical relativity-based simulations. As a result, it is discussed how gravitational waveforms and hydrodynamics of those systems behave under different configurations.

Abstract

Bu doktora tezinde; Genel Görelilik Kuramı'nın en önemli öngörülerinden biri olan gravitasyonel dalgalar teorisi, LIGO/Virgo dedektörlerinden elde edilen gözlemsel verilerin ışığında kuramsal ve nümerik olarak detaylı şekilde çalışılmıştır. Çalışmada ilk olarak konunun matematiksel temelleri verilmiştir. Daha sonra, çift kara delik sistemlerinin gravitasyonel dalga evrimlerinde kullanılan nümerik rölativite denklemleri ve "3+1 formalizm" olarak bilinen nümerik çözüm yöntemleri aktarılmıştır. Kara deliklerin tek ve çift sistem olma durumunda çerçeve sürüklenme etkisi araştırılmış ve ilgili yeni denklemler türetilmiştir. Tezin en kapsamlı bölümünde, çift kara delik sistemlerinin gravitasyonel dalga form model çalışmaları yer almaktadır. Bu bölümde, gravitasyonel dalga formlarının üretilmesinde kullanılan yaklaşım modellerinin, birbirleriyle ve gözlem veri setleriyle tutarlılık testleri yapılmıştır. Yapılan bu tutarlılık testlerinin ardından farklı fiziksel parametre setlerine göre çok sayıda olası çift kara delik sistemi için gravitasyonel dalga form modelleri oluşturulmuştur. Sistemlerin bileşenlerini oluşturan kara delikler, başlangıç spin parametrelerine göre gruplandırılarak LIGO/Virgo kataloğundan alınan gözlem verileri ile karşılaştırılmıştır. Sonuç olarak bu çalışma kapsamında yapılan çok sayıda model sayesinde, farklı başlangıç koşullarında çift kara delik sisteminde birleşme öncesi, birleşme anı ve birleşme sonrasında oluşan; gravitasyonel dalga genliği, sonuç kütle, spin/açısal-momentum ve kayıp kütle miktarları hesaplanmıştır. Yapılan nümerik hesaplamalar, gözlemsel olarak tespit edilen 10 adet çift kara delik sisteminin birleşme sürecini açıklamakta başarılı olmuştur. Ayrıca bu sistemler için alternatif koşullar da önerilmiştir., In this doctoral thesis, gravitational waves (GWs) theory, one of the most important predictions of General Relativity, was studied in detail in the light of observational data obtained from LIGO/Virgo detectors theoretically and numerically. In the study, the mathematical foundations of the subject are given first. Then, numerical relativity equations used in GW evolutions of binary black holes (BBHs) and numerical solution methods known as "3+1 formalism" are described. In case of black holes (BHs) being single and binary systems, the frame dragging effect was investigated and related new equations were derived. The most comprehensive part of the thesis is the gravitational waveform model studies of BBHs. In this section, consistency tests of the approximation models used in the production of gravitational waveforms were performed with each other and observation datasets. Following these consistency tests, gravitational waveform models were created for many possible BBHs according to different physical parameter sets. The BHs forming the components of the systems are grouped according to the initial spin parameters and compared with the observation data from the LIGO/Virgo catalog. As a result, thanks to the many models made within the scope of this study, the GW amplitude, the final mass, spin/angular-momentum, and loss mass quantities that were formed before the merger, the moment of merger and the merger in the BBHs at different starting conditions were calculated. The numerical calculations made were successful in explaining the merger process of ten BBHs detected observationally. Alternative conditions have also been proposed for these systems.

Bir kara deliğin oluşturduğu geometride dolanan test parçacığının kütleye ve/veya spine, yüke sahip olması, dairesel ya da eliptik yörüngede dolanması, yarattığı gravitasyonel ışımanın yörünge evrimi üzerindeki etkileri, kara deliğe parçacık gönderilerek çıplak tekilliğe dönüştürülüp dönüştürülemeyeceği gibi birçok durum incelendi. Kara delik çiftleri için başkaları tarafından elde edilen nümerik ve analitik sonuçlara ek olarak gravitasyonel dalga gözlemleri sunuldu. Son olarak, kara delik fiziği ile termodinamik arasındaki benzerliğe değinildi., In this thesis, well known isolated black hole solutions have been studied as a first step. Many aspects such as whether a test particle, which orbits in the geometry formed by a black hole, has mass and/or spin, charge, orbiting in circular or elliptic orbits, its gravitational radiation effect on the orbital evolution and whether the black hole can be transformed into naked singularity by sending particles or not. In addition to numerical and analytical results for binary black holes, which were performed by others, gravitational wave observations have been presented. Finally, the analogy between black hole physics and thermodynamics has been presented.

Abstract

Günümüzde kara delikler hem LIGO/Virgo alıcıları ile gravitasyonel dalga biçiminde hem de EHT teleskop ağı ile doğrudan görüntüleme şeklinde gözlenebilmiştir. Yapılan gözlemler ile kara deliklerin önemli mertebede dönmeye sahip olduğu ortaya konmuştur. Dönen kara delikler bize hem gravitasyonel dalga formlarının mertebesi hem de dönme durumunda olası geometrileri hakkında bilgi sunar. Bu tez çalışmasında dönmeyen ve dönen kara delik durumunda uzay -zaman yapısı incelenmiş ve farklı dönme durumlarında ne tür yörüngeler olacağı tartışılmıştır., Black holes could be observed both via LIGO/Virgo detectors in gravitational wave forms and via direct imaging by EHT telescope network. Observations indicate that black holes rotates significantly. Rotating black holes provide us information on the gravitational wave forms strengths and about their geometry. In this thesis, the structure of space-time is investigated for non-rotating and rotating black holes. In addition for different rotational cases the possible orbits are investigated.

Abstract

The grand challenges of contemporary fundamental physics dark matter, dark energy, vacuum energy, inflation and early universe cosmology, singularities and the hierarchy problem all involve gravity as a key component. And of all gravitational phenomena, black holes stand out in their elegant simplicity, while harbouring some of the most remarkable predictions of General Relativity: event horizons, singularities and ergoregions.The hitherto invisible landscape of the gravitational Universe is being unveiled before our eyes: the historical direct detection of gravitational waves by the LIGO-Virgo collaboration marks the dawn of a new era of scientific exploration. Gravitational-wave astronomy will allow us to test models of black hole formation, growth and evolution, as well as models of gravitational-wave generation and propagation. It will provide evidence for event horizons and ergoregions, test the theory of General Relativity itself, and may reveal the existence of new fundamental fields.
