Os cimentos de ionômero de vidro (CIV) vêm sendo utilizados no tratamento restaurador atraumático (ART) por suas propriedades de adesividade, liberação de flúor, biocompatibilidade e também por apresentarem valores dos coeficientes de expansão térmica muito próximos ao dos dentes. Como o mecanismo de adesão entre o CIV e a estrutura dentária ainda não foi completamente elucidado, o objetivo desta pesquisa foi investigar as possíveis interações entre um CIV de alta viscosidade (Ketac Molar Easymix, 3M ESPE) e a dentina humana. Além disso, o estudo avaliou a dinâmica do processo de presa em termos dos intervalos de tempo necessários para se alcançar a estabilidade da cura tanto do CIV como da mistura CIV-dentina. Foram feitas leituras dos componentes do CIV separadamente, pó (P), líquido (L), bem como da dentina na forma de pó (D). Foram feitas associações do pó com o líquido do CIV (P+L), da dentina com o líquido do CIV (D+L) e da mistura do CIV com a dentina (P+L+D), em proporções de 29,4%, 50%, 64,7%, 77,8%, 81,5% e 91,7% de CIV. As amostras foram analisadas por meio da espectroscopia no infravermelho por transformada de Fourier (FTIR) e pela Espectroscopia Raman. Com estas técnicas foi possível caracterizar os grupos funcionais que podem revelar interações químicas dos materiais com os tecidos dentários. Os resultados mostraram a formação de novos picos de absorção óptica e/ou de espalhamento Raman que não estavam presentes em seus precursores (P, L ou D). Observou- se que as proporções de 29,4% e 50% de CIV apresentaram maior interação, revelando que a quantidade de dentina influencia na formação dos novos picos de absorção óptica ou de espalhamento. A análise das bandas no infravermelho mostrou que a constante de tempo para a cura foi maior para o CIV de alta viscosidade, 38±7 min, do que para a amostra com 29,4% de CIV e 70,6% de dentina, que foi de 28±4 min., permitindo a obtenção da dinâmica do processo de cura das amostras preparadas. Em conclusão, os resultados deste trabalho mostraram a formação de novas estruturas ou rearranjos moleculares provenientes da interação química entre o CIV e a dentina, além de proporcionar um método para se avaliar a dinâmica do processo de cura destes cimentos. The glass ionomer cements (GIC) have been used in atraumatic restorative treatment (ART) for its properties of adhesion, fluoride release, biocompatibility and values of the thermal expansion coefficients close to those of the tooth. As the chemical bonding mechanism between GIC and the tooth structure has not been fully elucidated, the aim of this research was to investigate possible chemical interactions between high viscosity GIC (Ketac Molar Easymix, 3M ESPE) and the human dentin. Furthermore, this study evaluated the dynamic of the setting process obtaining the time constants required to achieve the curing stability of both GIC as well as the GIC and dentin mixture. Measurements were made on the GIC compounds separately, powder (P), liquid (L) and dentin in the form of powder (D). Powder associations have been made with the GIC’s liquid (P+L), dentin with the GIC’s liquid (D+L) and mixing the GIC with dentin (P+L+D) in different proportions of 29,4%, 50%, 64,7%, 77,8%, 81,5% and 91,7% of GIC. The samples were analyzed by means of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and Raman spectroscopy. With these techniques, it was possible to characterize the functional groups that may reveal chemical interactions of the materials with the dental tissue. The results showed the formation of new optical absorption peaks and/or Raman scattering that were not present in precursors (P, L or D). It was noted that the proportions of 29,4% and 50% of GIC showed higher interaction, revealing that the amount of dentin influences the formation of new optical absorption or scattering peaks. The analysis of the bands in the infrared showed that the curing time constant was higher for high viscosity GIC, 38 ± 7 min, than for the sample with 29,4% of GIC and 70,6% of dentin, which was 28 ± 4 min. That is, it provided the dynamic of the curing process of the prepared samples. In conclusion, the present results showed the formation of new compounds or molecular rearrangements resulting from the chemical interaction between the GIC and the dentin, besides providing a method to evaluate the dynamics of the curing process of these cements.
