In biological systems, microswimmers often propel themselves through complex media. However, many aspects of swimming mechanisms in non-Newtonian fluids remain unclear. This study considers the propulsion of two types of single spherical microswimmers (squirmers) in shear-thickening and shear-thinning fluids. The slip-driven squirmer propels faster/slower in shear-thickening/thinning fluids than in Newtonian fluids [C. Datt et al., ''Squirming through shear-thinning fluids,'' J. Fluid Mech. 784, R1 (2015)]. In contrast, we discovered that a traction-driven squirmer exhibits the opposite trend, moving slower/faster in shear-thickening/thinning fluids than in Newtonian fluids. In addition, we have shown theoretically that Purcell's scallop theorem does not hold in non-Newtonian fluids when a squirmer with reciprocal surface motions is used. There exist metastable domain walls of the flavor-singlet meson $\eta$ for the ${\rm U}(1)$ axial symmetry in two-flavor color superconductivity (2SC) in QCD at large baryon density. We show that, due to the coupling of $\eta$ to confined ${\rm SU}(2)$ gluons in the 2SC phase, the effective theory on the domain wall is described by the ${\rm SU}(2)_{-1}$ Chern-Simons theory, which is dual to the ${\rm U}(1)_{2}$ Chern-Simons theory. This theory has a spin-1 droplet excitation that does not carry baryon number, which we identify as a vector meson. We also discuss the effective theories and baryonic droplet excitations on the domain walls of the flavor-singlet mesons in the superfluid phases of QCD at large isospin density and two-color QCD at large baryon density., Comment: 13 pages

Statistical mechanics explains the properties of macroscopic phenomena based on the movements of microscopic particles such as atoms and molecules. Movements of microscopic particles can be represented by large-scale interacting systems. In this article, we study a combinatorial object which we call interactions, given as a symmetric directed graph representing the possible transition of states on adjacent sites of large-scale interacting systems. Such interactions underlie various standard processes such as the exclusion processes, generalized exclusion processes, multi-species exclusion processes, lattice-gas processes with energy, and the multi-lane particle processes. We introduce the notion of equivalences of interactions using their space of conserved quantities. This allows for the classification of interactions reflecting corresponding macroscopic properties. In particular, we prove that when the set of local states consists of two, three or four elements, then the number of equivalence classes of separable interactions are respectively one, two and five. We also define the wedge sums and box products of interactions, which give systematic methods for constructing new interactions from existing ones. Furthermore, we prove that the irreducibly quantified condition for interactions, which has implicitly played an important role in the theory of hydrodynamic limits, is preserved by wedge sums and box products. We demonstrate that a quantum field theory (QFT) in general two-dimensional curved spacetimes can be realized by a system of quantum spins or qubits. We consider a spin-1/2 model on a one-dimensional ring with spatially and temporally varying exchange couplings and magnetic fields. This model reduces to a QFT of Majorana fermions in the continuum limit. From this correspondence, we establish a dictionary for translating between the spacetime-dependent parameters of the spin model and the general metric on which the QFT is defined. After addressing the general case, we consider the Friedmann-Lema\^{\i}tre-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) metric as a simple example. According to the dictionary, the QFT of Majorana fermions on the FLRW metric corresponds to the Ising model with a time-dependent transverse magnetic field. We demonstrate that the production of Majorana particles in the expanding universe can be simulated with the transverse-field Ising model by increasing the strength of the magnetic field. Furthermore, we examine the Unruh effect through the spin system by using our prescription and show the direct relation between the entanglement (or modular) Hamiltonian in the spin system and the Rindler Hamiltonian. This approach provides an experimentally viable system for probing various phenomena in QFT within curved spacetime, while also opening the door to uncovering nontrivial phenomena in spin systems inspired by curved spacetime physics. In this study, we present a method for estimating the viscoelasticity of a leaf-spring sports prosthesis using advanced energy minimizing inverse kinematics based on the Piece-wise Constant Strain (PCS) model to reconstruct the three-dimensional dynamic behavior. Dynamic motion analysis of the athlete and prosthesis is important to clarify the effect of prosthesis characteristics on foot function. However, three-dimensional deformation calculations of the prosthesis and viscoelasticity have rarely been investigated. In this letter, we apply the PCS model to a prosthesis deformation, which can calculate flexible deformation with low computational cost and handle kinematics and dynamics. In addition, we propose an inverse kinematics calculation method that is consistent with the material properties of the prosthesis by considering the minimization of elastic energy. Furthermore, we propose a method to estimate the viscoelasticity by solving a quadratic programming based on the measured motion capture data. The calculated strains are more reasonable than the results obtained by conventional inverse kinematics calculation. From the result of the viscoelasticity estimation, we simulate the prosthetic motion by forward dynamics calculation and confirm that this result corresponds to the measured motion. These results indicate that our approach adequately models the dynamic phenomena, including the viscoelasticity of the prosthesis.

The Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope will implement a devoted weak gravitational lensing program with its High Latitude Wide Area Survey. For cosmological purposes, a critical step in Roman image processing is to combine dithered undersampled images into unified oversampled images and thus enable high-precision shape measurements. IMCOM is an image coaddition algorithm which offers control over point spread functions in output images. This paper presents the refactored IMCOM software, featuring full object-oriented programming, improved data structures, and alternative linear algebra strategies for determining coaddition weights. Combining these improvements and other acceleration measures, to produce almost equivalent coadded images, the consumption of core-hours has been reduced by about an order of magnitude. We then re-coadd a $16 \times 16 \,{\rm arcmin}^2$ region of our previous image simulations with three linear algebra kernels in four bands, and compare the results in terms of IMCOM optimization goals, properties of coadded noise frames, and measurements of simulated stars. The Cholesky kernel is efficient and relatively accurate, yet its irregular windows for input pixels slightly bias coaddition results. The iterative kernel avoids this issue by tailoring input pixel selection for each output pixel; it yields better noise control, but can be limited by random errors due to finite tolerance. The empirical kernel coadds images using an empirical relation based on geometry; it is inaccurate, but being much faster, it provides a valid option for "quick look" purposes. Mistake action detection from egocentric videos is crucial for developing intelligent archives that detect workers' errors and provide feedback. Previous studies have been limited to specific domains, focused on detecting mistakes from videos without procedural texts, and analyzed whether actions are mistakes. To address these limitations, in this paper, we propose the EgoOops dataset, which includes egocentric videos, procedural texts, and three types of annotations: video-text alignment, mistake labels, and descriptions for mistakes. EgoOops covers five procedural domains and includes 50 egocentric videos. The video-text alignment allows the model to detect mistakes based on both videos and procedural texts. The mistake labels and descriptions enable detailed analysis of real-world mistakes. Based on EgoOops, we tackle two tasks: video-text alignment and mistake detection. For video-text alignment, we enhance the recent StepFormer model with an additional loss for fine-tuning. Based on the alignment results, we propose a multi-modal classifier to predict mistake labels. In our experiments, the proposed methods achieve higher performance than the baselines. In addition, our ablation study demonstrates the effectiveness of combining videos and texts. We will release the dataset and codes upon publication.

Predicting time-dependent dynamics of complex systems governed by non-linear partial differential equations (PDEs) with varying parameters and domains is a challenging task motivated by applications across various fields. We introduce a novel family of neural operators based on our Graph Fourier Neural Kernels, designed to learn solution generators for nonlinear PDEs in which the highest-order term is diffusive, across multiple domains and parameters. G-FuNK combines components that are parameter- and domain-adapted with others that are not. The domain-adapted components are constructed using a weighted graph on the discretized domain, where the graph Laplacian approximates the highest-order diffusive term, ensuring boundary condition compliance and capturing the parameter and domain-specific behavior. Meanwhile, the learned components transfer across domains and parameters using our variant Fourier Neural Operators. This approach naturally embeds geometric and directional information, improving generalization to new test domains without need for retraining the network. To handle temporal dynamics, our method incorporates an integrated ODE solver to predict the evolution of the system. Experiments show G-FuNK's capability to accurately approximate heat, reaction diffusion, and cardiac electrophysiology equations across various geometries and anisotropic diffusivity fields. G-FuNK achieves low relative errors on unseen domains and fiber fields, significantly accelerating predictions compared to traditional finite-element solvers.

We consider an inverse problem of determining a coefficient $p(x)$ of an evolution equation $\sigma\ppp_tu = a(x)\ppp_x^2u - p(x)u$ for $00$ and $T>0$ are arbitrarily given. Our main result is the uniqueness: by assuming that the zeros of initial value $b(x):= u(0,x)$ on $[0, \ell]$ is a finite set and each zero is of order one at most, if two solutions have the same Cauchy data at $x=0$ over $(0,T)$ and the same initial value $b(x)$, then the coefficient $p(x)$ is uniquely determined on $[0,\ell]$.

A search for proton decay into $e^+/\mu^+$ and a $\eta$ meson has been performed using data from a 0.373 Mton$\cdot$year exposure (6050.3 live days) of Super-Kamiokande. Compared to previous searches this work introduces an improved model of the intranuclear $\eta$ interaction cross section, resulting in a factor of two reduction in uncertainties from this source and $\sim$10\% increase in signal efficiency. No significant data excess was found above the expected number of atmospheric neutrino background events resulting in no indication of proton decay into either mode. Lower limits on the proton partial lifetime of $1.4\times\mathrm{10^{34}~years}$ for $p\rightarrow e^+\eta$ and $7.3\times\mathrm{10^{33}~years}$ for $p\rightarrow \mu^+\eta$ at the 90$\%$ C.L. were set. These limits are around 1.5 times longer than our previous study and are the most stringent to date.

In this paper, we propose a novel method for extracting information from HTML tables with similar contents but with a different structure. We aim to integrate multiple HTML tables into a single table for retrieval of information containing in various Web pages. The method is designed by extending tree-structured LSTM, the neural network for tree-structured data, in order to extract information that is both linguistic and structural information of HTML data. We evaluate the proposed method through experiments using real data published on the WWW.

Continuum robots are compact and flexible, making them suitable for use in the industries and in medical surgeries. Rapidly-exploring random trees (RRT) are a highly efficient path planning method, and its variant, S-RRT, can generate smooth feasible paths for the end-effector. By combining RRT with inverse instantaneous kinematics (IIK), complete motion planning for the continuum arm can be achieved. Due to the high degrees of freedom of continuum arms, the null space in IIK can be utilized for obstacle avoidance. In this work, we propose a novel approach that uses the S-RRT* algorithm to create paths for the continuum-rigid manipulator. By employing IIK and null space techniques, continuous joint configurations are generated that not only track the path but also enable obstacle avoidance. Simulation results demonstrate that our method effectively handles motion planning and obstacle avoidance while generating high-quality end-effector paths in complex environments. Furthermore, compared to similar IIK methods, our approach exhibits superior computation time.

Instruments for gamma-ray astronomy at Very High Energies ($E>100\,{\rm GeV}$) have traditionally derived their scientific results through proprietary data and software. Data standardisation has become a prominent issue in this field both as a requirement for the dissemination of data from the next generation of gamma-ray observatories and as an effective solution to realise public data legacies of current-generation instruments. Specifications for a standardised gamma-ray data format have been proposed as a community effort and have already been successfully adopted by several instruments. We present the first production of standardised data from the Major Atmospheric Gamma-ray Imaging Cherenkov (MAGIC) telescopes. We converted $166\,{\rm h}$ of observations from different sources and validated their analysis with the open-source software Gammapy. We consider six data sets representing different scientific and technical analysis cases and compare the results obtained analysing the standardised data with open-source software against those produced with the MAGIC proprietary data and software. Aiming at a systematic production of MAGIC data in this standardised format, we also present the implementation of a database-driven pipeline automatically performing the MAGIC data reduction from the calibrated down to the standardised data level. In all the cases selected for the validation, we obtain results compatible with the MAGIC proprietary software, both for the manual and for the automatic data productions. Part of the validation data set is also made publicly available, thus representing the first large public release of MAGIC data. Modular autonomous vehicles (MAVs) represent a groundbreaking concept that integrates modularity into the ongoing development of autonomous vehicles. This innovative design introduces unique features to traffic flow, allowing multiple modules to seamlessly join together and operate collectively. To understand the traffic flow characteristics involving these vehicles and their collective operations, this study established a modeling framework specifically designed to simulate their behavior within traffic flow. The mixed traffic flow, incorporating arbitrarily formed trains of various modular sizes, is modeled and studied. Simulations are conducted under varying levels of traffic demand and penetration rates to examine the traffic flow dynamics in the presence of these vehicles and their operations. The microscopic trajectories, MAV train compositions, and macroscopic fundamental diagrams of the mixed traffic flow are analyzed. The simulation findings indicate that integrating MAVs and their collective operations can substantially enhance capacity, with the extent of improvement depending on the penetration rate in mixed traffic flow. Notably, the capacity nearly doubles when the penetration rate exceeds 75%. Furthermore, their presence significantly influences and regulates the free-flow speed of the mixed traffic. Particularly, when variations in operational speed limits exist between the MAVs and the background traffic, the mixed traffic adjusts to the operating velocity of these vehicles. This study provides insights into potential future traffic flow systems incorporating emerging MAV technologies.

We propose a novel description-based controllable text-to-speech (TTS) method with cross-lingual control capability. To address the lack of audio-description paired data in the target language, we combine a TTS model trained on the target language with a description control model trained on another language, which maps input text descriptions to the conditional features of the TTS model. These two models share disentangled timbre and style representations based on self-supervised learning (SSL), allowing for disentangled voice control, such as controlling speaking styles while retaining the original timbre. Furthermore, because the SSL-based timbre and style representations are language-agnostic, combining the TTS and description control models while sharing the same embedding space effectively enables cross-lingual control of voice characteristics. Experiments on English and Japanese TTS demonstrate that our method achieves high naturalness and controllability for both languages, even though no Japanese audio-description pairs are used., Comment: Submitted to ICASSP 2025

$\mathbb{Z}_3$ lattice gauge theory is the simplest discrete gauge theory with three-quark bound states, i.e., baryons. Since it has a finite-dimensional Hilbert space, it can be used for testing quantum simulation of lattice gauge theory at nonzero baryon density. We discuss global and local gauge symmetries and their importance in quantum simulation. We perform quantum emulator calculation and demonstrate how to study the ground state property of baryonic matter.

Igusa proved in 1958 that the polynomial determining the supersingularity of elliptic curve in Legendre form is separable. In this paper, we get an analogous result for curves of genus $2$ in Rosenhain form. More precisely we show that the ideal determining the superspeciality of the curve has multiplicity one at every superspecial point. Igusa used a Picard-Fucks differential operator annihilating a Gau{\ss} hypergeometric series. We shall use Lauricella system (of type D) of hypergeometric differential equations in three variables.

Understanding the nature of grain boundaries is a prerequisite for fabricating high-performance superconducting bulks and wires. For iron-based superconductors [e.g. Ba(Fe,Co)$_2$As$_2$, Fe(Se,Te), and NdFeAs(O,F)], the dependence of the critical current density $J_\mathrm{c}$ on misorientation angle ($\theta_\mathrm{GB}$) has been explored on [001]-tilt grain boundaries, but no data for other types of orientations have been reported. Here, we report on the structural and transport properties of Fe(Se,Te) grown on CeO$_2$-buffered symmetric [010]-tilt roof-type SrTiO$_3$ bicrystal substrates by pulsed laser deposition. X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy revealed that $\theta_\mathrm{GB}$ of Fe(Se,Te) was smaller whereas $\theta_\mathrm{GB}$ of CeO$_2$ was larger than that of the substrate. The difference in $\theta_\mathrm{GB}$ between the CeO$_2$ buffer layer and the substrate is getting larger with increasing $\theta_\mathrm{GB}$. For $\theta_\mathrm{GB}\geq24^\circ$ of the substrates, $\theta_\mathrm{GB}$ of Fe(Se,Te) was zero, whereas $\theta_\mathrm{GB}$ of CeO$_2$ was continuously increasing. The inclined growth of CeO$_2$ can be explained by the geometrical coherency model. The $c$-axis growth of Fe(Se,Te) for $\theta_\mathrm{GB}\geq24^\circ$ of the substrates is due to the domain matching epitaxy on (221) planes of CeO$_2$. Electrical transport measurements confirmed no reduction of inter-grain $J_\mathrm{c}$ for $\theta_\mathrm{GB}\leq9^\circ$, indicative of strong coupling between the grains., Comment: 6 figures, with Supplementary Information

Interconversion between charge and spin currents is a key phenomenon in realizing next-generation spintronic devices. Highly efficient spin-charge interconversion is expected to occur at band crossing points in materials with large spin-orbit interactions due to enhanced spin Berry curvature. On the other hand, if defects and/or impurities are present, they affect the electronic band structure, which in turn reduces the spin Berry curvature. Although defects and impurities are generally numerous in materials, their influence on the spin Berry curvature and, consequently, spin-charge interconversion has often been overlooked. In this paper, we perform spin-pumping experiments for stoichiometric SrRuO3 and non-stoichiometric SrRu0.7O3 films at 300 K, where the films are in paramagnetic states, to examine how Ru composition deviation from the stoichiometric condition influences the spin-to-charge conversion, showing that SrRuO3 has a larger spin Hall angle than SrRu0.7O3. We derive the band structures of paramagnetic SrRuO3 and SrRu0.75O3 using first-principles calculations, indicating that the spin Hall conductivity originating from the spin Berry curvature decreases when the Ru deficiency is incorporated, which agrees with the experimental results. Our results suggest that point-defect- and impurity control is essential to fully exploit the intrinsic spin Berry curvature and large spin-charge interconversion function of materials. These insights help us with material designs for efficient spin-charge interconversions.

The latitudinal distribution of whistler-mode wave intensity plays a crucial role in determining the efficiency and energy of electrons scattered by these waves in the outer radiation belt. Traditionally, this wave property has mostly been derived from statistical measurements of off-equatorial spacecraft, which collect intensity data at various latitudes under different geomagnetic conditions and at different times. In this study we examine a set of events captured by both the near-equatorial THEMIS spacecraft and the off-equatorial ERG spacecraft. Specifically, we compare the whistler-mode wave intensity from THEMIS and ERG measurements at the same MLT and time sectors. Similar wave spectrum characteristics confirm that THEMIS and ERG indeed observed the same wave activity. However, upon closer examination of the wave intensity variations, we identify two distinct categories of events: those that follow the statistically predicted variations in wave intensity along magnetic latitudes, and those that exhibit rapid wave intensity decay away from the equatorial plane. We analyze main characteristics of events from both categories and discuss possible implications of our analysis for radiation belt models.

Continuous quantum measurement and feedback induce heat exchange between a dissipative qubit and a monitor even in the steady state, as a measurement backaction. Using the Lindblad equation, we identified the maximum and minimum values of the steady-state heat current as the measurement and feedback states vary, and we demonstrate the qubit cooling induced by these processes. Turning our attention to quantum trajectories under continuous measurement and feedback, we observe that the heat current fluctuates around the steady-state values. We reveal that the fluctuations are strongly influenced by the measurement backaction, distinguishing them from the standard Poisson noise typically observed in electric circuits. Our results offer potential application in the development of quantum refrigerators controlled by continuous measurement and feedback, and provide deep insight into quantum thermodynamics from the perspective of fluctuation., Comment: 15 pages, 6 figures

The prediction of both the existence and weight of network links at future time points is essential as complex networks evolve over time. Traditional methods, such as vector autoregression and factor models, have been applied to small, dense networks, but become computationally impractical for large-scale, sparse, and complex networks. Some machine learning models address dynamic link prediction, but few address the simultaneous prediction of both link presence and weight. Therefore, we introduce a novel model that dynamically predicts link presence and weight by dividing the task into two sub-tasks: predicting remittance ratios and forecasting the total remittance volume. We use a self-attention mechanism that combines temporal-topological neighborhood features to predict remittance ratios and use a separate model to forecast the total remittance volume. We achieve the final prediction by multiplying the outputs of these models. We validated our approach using two real-world datasets: a cryptocurrency network and bank transfer network.

Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) is a key technology for realizing high-capacity and flexible quantum communication networks. In addition, to realize the emerging quantum internet, quantum frequency conversion is also essential for bridging different quantum systems over optical fiber networks. In this work, we demonstrate a channel-selective quantum frequency conversion (CS-QFC), which allows active selection of the frequency of the converted photon from multiple DWDM channels. The 2.5 THz bandwidth of our CS-QFC system shows the ability to establish a 100-ch DWDM dynamic link from a single quantum system. Quantum frequency conversion (QFC) which converts the frequencies of photons while preserving the quantum state is an essential technology for realizing the quantum internet and quantum interconnect. For the QFC based on the frequency downconversion from visible to the telecom wavelengths around 1500 nm, it is widely known that noise photons produced by the strong pump light used for QFC contaminate the frequency-converted photon, which degrades the quality of the quantum property of the photon after QFC. In conventional QFC experiments, noise photons are removed using external narrowband frequency filter systems. In contrast, in this study, we implement a compact QFC device integrating the cavity structure only for the converted mode. While the cavity structure can enhance not only the desired QFC efficiency but also the noise photon generation rate, we show that the cavity-enhanced QFC followed by a relatively wide bandpass filter achieves the signal-to-noise ratio comparable to the QFCs with external narrowband filters. We experimentally demonstrate the cavity-enhanced QFC using a single photon at 780 nm to 1540 nm, in which the non-classical photon statistics is clearly observed after QFC., Comment: 10 pages, 12 figures

In transition-metal compounds, the transition-metal d electrons play an important role in their physical properties; however, the effects of the electron correlation between the ligand p electrons have not been clear yet. In this Letter, the Ru 4d and O 2p partial density of states (PDOS) in transition-metal oxide SrRuO$_3$ involving Weyl fermions are investigated by resonant photoemission spectroscopy. The observations demonstrate that the O 2p PDOS is distorted from that predicted by first-principles calculations than the Ru 4d PDOS. The results indicate that the electron correlation in the ligand orbitals will be important to understand the electronic structure of the p-d hybridized state in strongly correlated electron systems, even with topological states., Comment: 24 pages, 7 figures

The $J/\psi$ and $\psi(2S)$ charmonium states, composed of $c\bar{c}$ quark pairs and known since the 1970s, are widely believed to serve as ideal probes to test quantum chromodynamics in high-energy hadronic interactions. However, there is not yet a complete understanding of the charmonium-production mechanism. Recent measurements of $J/\psi$ production as a function of event charged-particle multiplicity at the collision energies of both the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) show enhanced $J/\psi$ production yields with increasing multiplicity. One potential explanation for this type of dependence is multiparton interactions (MPI). We carry out the first measurements of self-normalized $J/\psi$ yields and the $\psi(2S)$ to $J/\psi$ ratio at both forward and backward rapidities as a function of self-normalized charged-particle multiplicity in $p$$+$$p$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=200$ GeV. In addition, detailed {\sc pythia} studies tuned to RHIC energies were performed to investigate the MPI impacts. We find that the PHENIX data at RHIC are consistent with recent LHC measurements and can only be described by {\sc pythia} calculations that include MPI effects. The forward and backward $\psi(2S)$ to $J/\psi$ ratio, which serves as a unique and powerful approach to study final-state effects on charmonium production, is found to be less dependent on the charged-particle multiplicity., Comment: 301 authors from 69 institutions, 8 pages, 3 figures. v1 is version submitted to Physical Review D Letters. Rhythmic activity commonly observed in biological systems, occurring from the cellular level to the organismic level, is typically modeled as limit cycle oscillators. The phase reduction theory serves as a useful analytical framework for elucidating the synchronization mechanism of these oscillators. Essentially, this theory describes the dynamics of a multi-dimensional nonlinear oscillator using a single variable phase model. In order to understand and control the rhythmic phenomena in the real world, it is crucial to estimate the asymptotic phase from the observed data. In this study, we propose a new method, Gaussian Process Phase Interpolation (GPPI), for estimating the asymptotic phase from time series data. The GPPI method first evaluates the asymptotic phase on the limit cycle and subsequently estimates the asymptotic phase outside the limit cycle employing Gaussian process regression. Thanks to the high expressive power of Gaussian processes, the GPPI is capable of capturing a variety of functions. Notably, the GPPI is easily applicable even when the dimension of the system increases. The performance of the GPPI is tested by using simulation data from the Stuart-Landau oscillator and the Hodgkin-Huxley oscillator. The results demonstrate that the GPPI can accurately estimate the asymptotic phase even in the presence of high observation noise and strong nonlinearity. Additionally, the GPPI is demonstrated as an effective tool for data-driven phase control of a Hodgkin-Huxley oscillator. Progress in gravitational-wave astronomy depends upon having sensitive detectors with good data quality. Since the end of the LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA third Observing run in March 2020, detector-characterization efforts have lead to increased sensitivity of the detectors, swifter validation of gravitational-wave candidates and improved tools used for data-quality products. In this article, we discuss these efforts in detail and their impact on our ability to detect and study gravitational-waves. These include the multiple instrumental investigations that led to reduction in transient noise, along with the work to improve software tools used to examine the detectors data-quality. We end with a brief discussion on the role and requirements of detector characterization as the sensitivity of our detectors further improves in the future Observing runs., Comment: 35 pages, 18 figures

Meteorites and their components exhibit a diverse range of oxygen isotope compositions, and the isotopic exchange timescale between dust grains and ambient gas is a key parameter for understanding the spatiotemporal evolution of the solar nebula. As dust grains existed as macroscopic aggregates in the solar nebula, it is necessary to consider the isotopic exchange timescales for these aggregates. Here, we theoretically estimate the isotope exchange timescales between dust aggregates and ambient vapor. The isotope exchange process between aggregates and ambient vapor is divided into four processes: (i) supply of gas molecules to the aggregate surface, (ii) diffusion of molecules within the aggregate, (iii) isotope exchange on the surface of constituent particles, and (iv) isotope diffusion within the particles. We evaluate these timescales and assess which one becomes the rate-determining step. We reveal that the isotope exchange timescale is approximately the same as that of the constituent particles when the aggregate radius is smaller than the critical value, which is a few centimeters when considering the exchange reaction between amorphous forsterite aggregates and water vapor., Comment: 7 pages, 3 figures. The mini proceedings of the "Fourth International Workshop on the Extension Project for the J-PARC Hadron Experimental Facility (HEF-ex 2024) [https://kds.kek.jp/event/46965]" held at J-PARC, February 19-21, 2024, are presented. The workshop was devoted to discussing the physics case that connects both the present and the future Hadron Experimental Facility at J-PARC, covering a wide range of topics in flavor, hadron, and nuclear physics related to both experimental and theoretical activities being conducted at the facility.

Molecular deuteration is a powerful diagnostic tool for probing the physical conditions and chemical processes in astrophysical environments. In this work, we focus on formaldehyde deuteration in the protobinary system NGC\,1333 IRAS\,4A, located in the Perseus molecular cloud. Using high-resolution ($\sim$\,100\,au) ALMA observations, we investigate the [D$_2$CO]/[HDCO] ratio along the cavity walls of the outflows emanating from IRAS\,4A1. Our analysis reveals a consistent decrease in the deuteration ratio (from $\sim$\,60-20\% to $\sim$\,10\%) with increasing distance from the protostar (from $\sim$\,2000\,au to $\sim$\,4000\,au). Given the large measured [D$_2$CO]/[HDCO], both HDCO and D$_2$CO are likely injected by the shocks along the cavity walls into the gas-phase from the dust mantles, formed in the previous prestellar phase. We propose that the observed [D$_2$CO]/[HDCO] decrease is due to the density profile of the prestellar core from which NGC\,1333 IRAS\,4A was born. When considering the chemical processes at the base of formaldehyde deuteration, the IRAS\,4A's prestellar precursor had a predominantly flat density profile within 3000\,au and a decrease of density beyond this radius.

With the advancements in singing voice generation and the growing presence of AI singers on media platforms, the inaugural Singing Voice Deepfake Detection (SVDD) Challenge aims to advance research in identifying AI-generated singing voices from authentic singers. This challenge features two tracks: a controlled setting track (CtrSVDD) and an in-the-wild scenario track (WildSVDD). The CtrSVDD track utilizes publicly available singing vocal data to generate deepfakes using state-of-the-art singing voice synthesis and conversion systems. Meanwhile, the WildSVDD track expands upon the existing SingFake dataset, which includes data sourced from popular user-generated content websites. For the CtrSVDD track, we received submissions from 47 teams, with 37 surpassing our baselines and the top team achieving a 1.65% equal error rate. For the WildSVDD track, we benchmarked the baselines. Gate-tunable semiconductor nanosystems are getting more and more important in the realization of quantum circuits. While such devices are typically cooled to operation temperature with zero bias applied to the gate, biased cooling corresponds to a non-zero gate voltage being applied before reaching the operation temperature. We systematically study the effect of biased cooling on different undoped SiGe/Si/SiGe quantum well field-effect stacks (FESs), designed to accumulate and density-tune two-dimensional electron gases (2DEGs). In an empirical model, we show that biased cooling of the undoped FES induces a static electric field, which is constant at operation temperature and superimposes onto the field exerted by the top gate onto the 2DEG. We show that the voltage operation window of the field-effect-tuned 2DEG can be chosen in a wide range of voltages via the choice of the biased cooling voltage. Importantly, quality features of the 2DEG such as the mobility or the temporal stability of the 2DEG density remain unaltered under biased cooling. We discuss how this additional degree of freedom in the tunability of FESs may be relevant for the operation of quantum circuits, in particular for the electrostatic control of spin qubits.

A new compact quad-band notch filter (QBNF) based on the extended composite right and left-handed transmission line (E-CRLH TL) has been presented. As known, E-CRLH TL behaves like a quad-band structure. A microstrip TL which is loaded with an open-ended E-CRLH TL is presented as a QBNF. Four unwanted frequencies were used in a dual-band LTE receiver as four notch frequencies which must be eliminated (0.9 GHz, 1.3 GHz, 2.55 GHz, and 3.35 GHz). Also, this QBNF can be applied to simultaneous wireless power and data transfer (SWPDT) system to isolate the wireless power circuit from the data communication circuit. A design technique for the proposed QBNF is presented and its performance is validated using full-wave simulation results and theoretical analysis. The main advantage of this design is an overall rejection greater than 20dB at selected unwanted frequencies. Good agreements between the full-wave simulation and equivalent circuit model results have been achieved which verified the effectiveness of the proposed circuit model. The proposed QBNF is designed on an FR-4 substrate and the dimension of the proposed QBNF is 20X22 mm.

A compact energy-recovery linac (cERL) has been un-der construction at KEK since 2009 to develop key technologies for the energy-recovery linac. The cERL began operating in 2013 to create a high-current beam with a low-emittance beam with stable continuous wave (CW) superconducting cavities. Owing to the development of critical components, such as the DC gun, superconducting cavities, and the design of ideal beam transport optics, we have successfully established approximately 1 mA stable CW operation with a small beam emittance and extremely small beam loss. This study presents the details of our key technologies and experimental results for achieving 100% energy recovery operation with extremely small beam loss during a stable, approximately 1 mA CW beam operation., Comment: 11 pages, 16 figures

The development of good thermoelectric materials exhibiting high $ZT$ (=$\frac{PF}{\kappa} T$) requires maximizing power factor, $PF$, mainly governed by electrons, and minimizing thermal conductivity, $\kappa$, associated not only with electrons but also with phonons. In the present work, we focus on the GeTe and Mg$_3$Sb$_2$ as high $ZT$ materials with inhomogeneous structures and analyze both electrical conductivity, $L_{11}$, and Seebeck coefficient, $S$, with help of Sommerfeld-Bethe formula, resulting in understanding the temperature dependence of $PF$ and the identification of electrons contribution to thermal conductivity, $\kappa_{\rm el}$. Comparing the obtained $\kappa_{\rm el}$ and experimentally measured $\kappa$, the temperature dependence of phonons contribution to thermal conductivity, $\kappa_{\rm ph}=\kappa-\kappa_{\rm el}$, is inferred and analyzed based on the formula by Holland. Comparison of the GeTe and Mg$_3$Sb$_2$ with different types of crystal structures, i.e., GeTe being of a semiordered zigzag nanostructure like a disrupted herringbone structure while Mg$_3$Sb$_2$ of rather uniform amorphous structure, discloses that size effects on temperature dependence of $\kappa_{\rm ph}$ is large in the former, while very small in the latter. Hence, it is concluded that not only the size of the grain but also its shape has an important influence on $\kappa_{\rm ph}$ and then $ZT$.

Electronic flying qubits offer an interesting alternative to photonic qubits: electrons propagate slower, hence easier to control in real time, and Coulomb interaction enables direct entanglement between different qubits. While their coherence time is limited, picosecond-scale control would make them competitive in terms of number of possible coherent operations. The key challenge lies in achieving the dynamical regime, where the injected plasmonic pulse width is shorter than the quantum device dimensions. Here we reach this new regime in a quantum nanoelectronic system by injecting ultrashort single electron plasmonic pulses into a 14-micrometer-long Mach-Zehnder interferometer. Our findings reveal that quantum coherence is preserved for ultrashort plasmonic pulses, exhibiting enhanced contrast of coherent oscillations compared to the DC regime. Moreover, this coherence remains robust even under large bias voltages. This milestone demonstrates the feasibility of flying qubits as a promising alternative to localized qubit architectures, offering reduced hardware footprint, increased connectivity, and potential for scalable quantum information processing.

Great attention has been paid to binomial codes utilizing bosonic systems as logical qubits with error correction capabilities. However, implementing single-qubit rotation operations on binomial codes has proven challenging, requiring an ancillary qubit in previous approaches. Here, we propose a method for performing logical qubit rotation on binomial codes without requiring an ancillary qubit. Specifically, we explain how to implement $X$-axis rotations by simultaneously applying two-frequency parametric drives to resonators with nonlinearity. Furthermore, we show that $Z$-axis rotations could be realized with the detuning. Due to the reduction of the need for the ancillary qubit for the logical qubit rotation, our proposed approach is advantageous for quantum computation in the NISQ era, where the number of qubits is limited.

Cathodoluminescence (CL), the emission of light induced by accelerated free electrons, has been extensively utilized in various applications, such as displays, streak cameras, and high-spatial-resolution analysis of optical material, surpassing the diffraction limit of light. Despite its long history, the photon statistics of CL have only recently been examined, revealing unexpectedly large bunching of photons. Here we find that this peculiar photon bunching contains information of intervening excitation processes before the photon emission, which can be extracted from the photon statistics within each excitation event by a single free electron. Using this approach, we experimentally unveiled the statistical differences of coherent CL involving a single electromagnetic interaction process and incoherent CL involving multiple excitation processes. The developed formulation is universally applicable for particle generation processes in general to investigate the nature of cascade reactions.

The jet cross-section and jet-substructure observables in $p$$+$$p$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=200$ GeV were measured by the PHENIX Collaboration at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC). Jets are reconstructed from charged-particle tracks and electromagnetic-calorimeter clusters using the anti-$k_{t}$ algorithm with a jet radius $R=0.3$ for jets with transverse momentum within $8.0

Simulating nonequilibirum dynamics of a quantum many-body system is one of the promising applications of quantum computing. We simulate the time evolution of one-dimensional ${\bf Z}_2$ lattice gauge theory on IBM's superconducting 156-qubit device ibm\_fez. We consider the Floquet circuit made of the Trotter decomposition of Hamiltonian evolution and focus on its dynamics toward thermalization. Quantum simulation with the help of error mitigation is successful in running the Floquet circuit made of $38$ and $116$ qubits up to $10$ Trotter steps in the best case. This is enough to reach the early stage of prethermalization. Autonomous driving, particularly navigating complex and unanticipated scenarios, demands sophisticated reasoning and planning capabilities. While Multi-modal Large Language Models (MLLMs) offer a promising avenue for this, their use has been largely confined to understanding complex environmental contexts or generating high-level driving commands, with few studies extending their application to end-to-end path planning. A major research bottleneck is the lack of large-scale annotated datasets encompassing vision, language, and action. To address this issue, we propose CoVLA (Comprehensive Vision-Language-Action) Dataset, an extensive dataset comprising real-world driving videos spanning more than 80 hours. This dataset leverages a novel, scalable approach based on automated data processing and a caption generation pipeline to generate accurate driving trajectories paired with detailed natural language descriptions of driving environments and maneuvers. This approach utilizes raw in-vehicle sensor data, allowing it to surpass existing datasets in scale and annotation richness. Using CoVLA, we investigate the driving capabilities of MLLMs that can handle vision, language, and action in a variety of driving scenarios. Our results illustrate the strong proficiency of our model in generating coherent language and action outputs, emphasizing the potential of Vision-Language-Action (VLA) models in the field of autonomous driving. This dataset establishes a framework for robust, interpretable, and data-driven autonomous driving systems by providing a comprehensive platform for training and evaluating VLA models, contributing to safer and more reliable self-driving vehicles. The dataset is released for academic purpose.

We develop an energy calculation algorithm leveraging quantum phase difference estimation (QPDE) scheme and a tensor-network-based unitary compression method in the preparation of superposition states and time-evolution gates. Alongside its efficient implementation, this algorithm reduces depolarization noise affections exponentially. We demonstrated energy gap calculations for one-dimensional Hubbard models on IBM superconducting devices using circuits up to 32-system (plus one-ancilla) qubits, a five-fold increase over previous QPE demonstrations, at the 7242 controlled-Z gate level of standard transpilation, utilizing a Q-CTRL error suppression module. Additionally, we propose a technique towards molecular executions using spatial orbital localization and index sorting, verified by a 13- (17-)qubit hexatriene (octatetraene) simulation. We study spin polarization induced by electric fields in an isotropic chiral metal with boundaries using the Boltzmann formalism. We calculate both spin polarization in bulk in the linear response and antiparallel spin polarization near the boundary in the quadratic response against electric fields. We also work out spin polarization induced by the fluctuating electric fields, i.e., noises. The nucleon-quark mixed matter is defined in the Brueckner-Hartree-Fock framework, in which quark densities are determined by equilibrium conditions between nucleon and quark chemical potentials, and nucleon-quark interactions play critical roles for resulting EoSs (equation of state). The two models of EoSs are derived from the nucleon-quark mixed matter (NQMM): The NQMM-A EoSs are based on the simple assumption that nucleons and free quarks occupy their respective Fermi levels and their Fermi spheres overlap from each other. In NQMM-B EoSs, the quark Fermi repulsion effect is incorporated on the basis of quakyonic matter, meaning that the nucleon Fermi levels are pushed up from the quark Fermi sphere by the Pauli exclusion principle. For the NQMM-A EoSs, the neutron-star mass-radius ($MR$) curves are pushed up above the region of $M \sim 2.1M_\odot$ and $R_{2.1M_\odot}\sim$ 12.5 km indicated by the recent observations, as the $qN$ repulsions increase. For the NQMM-B EoSs, the similar results are obtained by the combined contributions from the $qN$ repulsion and the quark Fermi repulsion. In both models of EoSs, the important roles of the $qN$ di-quark exchange repulsions are demonstrated to reproduce reasonable values of $M_{max}$ and $R_{2.1M_\odot}$.

We analyze the competition between strong correlations and dissipation in quantum impurity systems from the Kondo regime to the valence fluctuation regime by developing a slave-boson theory for a non-Hermitian Anderson impurity model with one-body loss. Notably, in the non-Hermitian Kondo regime, strong correlations qualitatively change the nature of dissipation through renormalization effects, where the effective one-body loss is suppressed and emergent many-body dissipation characterized by the complex-valued hybridization is generated. We unveil the mechanism of a dissipative quantum phase transition of the Kondo state on the basis of this renormalization effect, which counterintuitively enhances the lifetime of the impurity against loss. We also find a crossover from the non-Hermitian Kondo regime to the valence fluctuation regime dominated by one-body dissipation. Our results can be tested in a wide variety of setups such as quantum dots coupled to electronic leads and quantum point contacts in ultracold Fermi gases., Comment: 8+11 pages, 3+4 figures

This study investigated the dynamics of an electron--nuclear spin-coupled system using three Al$_x$Ga$_{1-x}$As bulk samples with different aluminum concentrations $x$ of 0, 0.05, and 0.15. The time-resolved Kerr rotation technique was primarily used. The samples with $x=$ 0.05 and 0.15 exhibited an anomalously large nuclear magnetic field of $\sim$1.1 T, which was twice the applied magnetic field. This observation is unusual for bulk semiconductors, which typically exhibit weak hyperfine interactions. Further investigations revealed a long nuclear field formation time, which indicated clear two-stage formation dynamics. Thus, this study concluded that slow nuclear spin diffusion owing to the nuclear quadrupole interaction facilitates the formation process of the nuclear field., Comment: 8 pages, 5 figures
