7. Manual Interstructural Release Procedure Can Alter Muscle Shear Modulus.

Abstract

Purpose: Interstructural release (ISR) procedure to skeletal muscles is believed to attenuate adhesion between neighboring muscles and alleviate subjective symptoms, including perceived stiffness and associated pain. However, objective evidence about the effect of ISR on the mechanical properties of the muscles is limited. The purpose of this study was to test the acute effect of ISR on the shear modulus of adjacent muscles. It was hypothesized that ISR applied to the border between synergistic muscles would acutely reduce the resting shear modulus of the involved muscle. Methods: To assess the effect of ISR, the shear modulus of the resting peroneus longus (PL) and soleus (SOL) muscles was measured at various ankle joint positions (inversion/eversion) before and after interventions in nine nonsymptomatic male individuals (age: 21.9 ± 1.4 yr, height: 170 ± 6.6 cm, body mass: 64.3 ± 4.0 kg). Potential muscle activity during the measurement was assessed by recording surface electromyogram from these muscles. The interventions were ISR to the lower leg between the deep fascia of the PL and SOL and sham (massage). Results: As the ankle joint position was passively varied toward inversion, the shear modulus increased substantially in PL and decreased moderately in SOL. Shear modulus of the proximal PL in the most inverted position increased acutely after ISR (by 11.4 ± 5.8%, P <0.001), but not after the sham, without any change in the amplitude of electromyogram. Conclusions: These results provide objective evidence that the ISR procedure can acutely alter shear modulus, at least in a specific site in a resting muscle. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Under the aegis of the National Infectious Diseases Act, the virus transitioned from a category 2 menace to category 5, analogous to seasonal influenza. For this classification to be appropriate, a comprehensive assessment of the immune status of the Japanese population must be conducted to ensure adequacy. The current study has investigated the protracted immune responses of healthcare workers (HCWs) to SARS-CoV-2 in Japan. One year subsequent to the systematically implemented SARS-CoV-2 vaccination campaign among HCWs, humoral and cellular immune responses were sustained at levels as high as or higher than those immediately following the third booster vaccination. Persisting immunity has highlighted the resilience and lasting memory exhibited in HCW defense against the virus, suggesting that the classification of SARS-CoV-2 infection as a category 5 in Japan has appeared judicious. Abstract

Research shows that gate leakage current in a 0.35 micrometer WSi gate i-AlGaAs/n - GaAs doped channel heterostructure insulated-gate field-effect transistor rises in response to a -6V gate-to-drain voltage application. A substrate current and negative temperature coefficient were observed at impact ionization. Researchers have succeeded in developing a degradation model which can improve gate-edge electric field.

Abstract

投稿論文, The local remedies rule is an important principle of customary international law requiring the exhaustion of local remedies as a prerequisite for submitting international claims. Despite a well-established rule, its scope of application remains unclear. This is especially questioned in practice for circumstances where local remedies do not need to be exhausted. Against this backdrop, this article examines the exceptions to the local remedies rule by analyzing doctrinal debates and judicial practices with a special focus on the Draft Articles on Diplomatic Protection codified by the International Law Commission. Theoretically, the exceptions are divided into two groups : first,procedural exceptions of the rule based on unavailability of the local remedies caused by intrinsic or extrinsic reasons; and second, a substantial exception deriving from the conceptual difference between 'direct injury'and 'indirect injury.' Claimant States strategically invoke the substantial exception at the ICJ in order to bring international claims before exhausting the local remedies for sufferings of their nationals, notably after Avena judgment. By updating the argument of Professor Kanae Taijyudo in 1964,this article suggests that certain exceptions are disputable even in treaty-based dispute settlement mechanisms, notably in investor-state arbitrations.
