The BRASSINAZOLE‐RESISTANT 1 (BZR1) transcription factor family plays an essential role in plant brassinosteroid (BR) signaling, but the signaling mechanism through which BZR1 and its homologs cooperate with certain coactivators to facilitate transcription of target genes remains incompletely understood. In this study, we used an efficient protein interaction screening system to identify blue‐light inhibitor of cryptochromes 1 (BIC1) as a new BZR1‐interacting protein in Arabidopsis thaliana. We show that BIC1 positively regulates BR signaling and acts as a transcriptional coactivator for BZR1‐dependent activation of BR‐responsive genes. Simultaneously, BIC1 interacts with the transcription factor PIF4 to synergistically and interdependently activate expression of downstream genes including PIF4 itself, and to promote plant growth. Chromatin immunoprecipitation assays demonstrate that BIC1 and BZR1/PIF4 interdependently associate with the promoters of common target genes. In addition, we show that the interaction between BIC1 and BZR1 is evolutionally conserved in the model monocot plant Triticum aestivum (bread wheat). Together, our results reveal mechanistic details of BR signaling mediated by a transcriptional activation module BIC1/BZR1/PIF4 and thus provide new insights into the molecular mechanisms underlying the integration of BR and light signaling in plants. • A new formation mechanism of the Type-A CsMPs is proposed. • Silicate matrix is inherited from partially oxidized FeO-bearing silica-based microparticles. • Diffusion of volatile constituents into FeO-bearing silica-based microparticles occurs in reducing atmospheres. A large amount of radiocaesium-bearing microparticles (CsMPs) were released into surrounding environment during the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant accident. To clarify the formation mechanism of the Type-A CsMPs, which were released from Units 2/3 and have spherical or ellipsoidal morphologies, oxidation behavior of 304 stainless steel containing 1 wt.% Si at 1200 ºC in steam atmosphere was investigated in this work. Both Fe 2 SiO 4 and Ni-Fe-Cr phases were formed and distributed in the porous oxide scale. With the progress of oxidation, Fe 2 SiO 4 and Ni-Fe-Cr phases were oxidized, causing severe spallation of the oxide scale somewhere between 90 min and 120 min. Trace amounts of Al and Ti were detected in the silica microparticles transformed from Fe 2 SiO 4 oxidation. Furthermore, thermodynamic calculations were performed with the aid of FactSage software, revealing that: (1) when severe spallation of the oxide scale occurs, high levels of Fe oxides can stably exist in silica-based microparticles distributed in the oxide scale; (2) the Type-A CsMPs may be formed in reducing atmospheres. Based on the experimental and thermodynamic results, a completely new formation mechanism of the Type-A CsMPs is proposed. Silicate matrix is inherited from partially oxidized FeO-bearing silica-based microparticles, which are released from the oxide scale due to spallation. Moreover, diffusion of volatile constituents into FeO-bearing silica-based microparticles occurs in the reactor pressure vessel (RPV), not out of the RPV. Key message: Yr10 is an important gene to control wheat stripe rust, and the search for Yr10 needs to be continued.Abstract: Wheat stripe rust or yellow rust is a devastating fungal disease caused by Puccinia striiformis f. sp. tritici (Pst). Host disease resistance offers a primary source for controlling wheat stripe rust. The stripe rust resistance gene Yr10 confers the race-specific resistance to most tested Pst races in China including CYR29. Early studies proposed that Yr10 was a nucleotide-binding site, leucine-rich repeat gene archived as GenBank accession AF149112 (hereafter designated the Yr10 candidate gene or Yr10CG). In this study, we revealed that 15 Chinese wheat cultivars positive for Yr10CG are susceptible to CYR29. We then expressed the Yr10CG cDNA in the common wheat ‘Bobwhite’. The Yr10CG-cDNA positive transgenic plants were also susceptible to CYR29. Thus, it is highly unlikely that Yr10CG corresponds to the Yr10 resistance gene. Using the Yr10 donor ‘Moro’ and the Pst-susceptible wheat ‘Huixianhong’, we generated two F3 populations that displayed a single Mendelian segregation on the Yr10 gene, and used them to remap the Yr10 gene. Six markers were placed in the Yr10 region, with the Yr10CG gene now mapping about 1.2-cM proximal to the Yr10 locus and the Xsdauw79 marker is completely linked to the Yr10 locus. Apparently, the Yr10 gene has not yet been identified. Fine mapping and positional cloning of Yr10 is important for gene pyramiding for stripe rust resistance in wheat. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
