Active matter is characterized by out-of-equilibrium behaviors, offering an attractive, alternative route for revolutionizing disease diagnostics and therapy. A better understanding of how active matter interacts with cell membranes is critical to elucidating the underlying physical mechanisms and broadening the potential biomedical applications. This review provides a conceptual framework on the physiochemical mechanisms underlying active matter-biomembrane interactions. We briefly introduce the physical models of active matter and lipid membranes, and summarize the typical phenomena emerging from various active matter, including artificial active particles, cellular cytoskeletons, bacteria, and membrane proteins. Moreover, the remaining challenges and future perspectives of such non-equilibrium systems in living organisms are discussed. The findings and fundamental principles discussed in this review shed light on the rational design of activity-mediated cellular interaction, and could trigger better strategies to design and develop novel functional systems and materials toward advantageous biomedical applications.

Antibacterial materials have a wide range of potential applications in bio-antimicrobial, environmental antimicrobial, and food antimicrobial fields due to their intrinsic antimicrobial properties, which can circumvent the development of drug resistance in bacteria. Understanding the intricate mechanisms and intrinsic nature of diverse antibacterial materials is significant for the formulation of guidelines for the design of materials with rapid and efficacious antimicrobial action and a high degree of biomedical material safety. Herein, this review highlights the recent advances in investigating antimicrobial mechanisms of different antibacterial materials with a particular focus on tailored computer simulations and theoretical analysis. From the view of structure and function, we summarize the characteristics and mechanisms of different antibacterial materials, introduce the latest advances of new antibacterial materials, and discuss the design concept and development direction of new materials. In addition, we underscore the significance of employing simulation and theoretical methodologies to elucidate the intrinsic antimicrobial mechanisms, which is crucial for a comprehensive comprehension of the control strategies, safer biomedical applications, and the management of health and environmental concerns associated with antibacterial materials. This review could potentially stimulate further endeavors in fundamental research and facilitate the extensive utilization of computational and theoretical approaches in the design of novel functional nanomaterials. Biomacromolecular networks, crucial components of biological systems, are of great importance in biological and nanomedical science, in which the interfaces between nanoparticle and macromolecular networks are intriguing and drawing great attention. Herein, this review seeks to present the state‐of‐art progress and perspective of the dynamic behaviors, confinement and entropy at the nanoparticle‐biomacromolecular network interfaces. The basic biomacromolecular networks in living systems, recent research on networks with dynamic bonds and various diffusion behaviors of nanoparticles within biomacromolecular networks are summarized. In particular, entropic effects in the confined environments of biological networks are discussed, along with how they impact the mechanical properties and dynamical behaviors. The interesting research and findings included in this review might offer the scientific community a better understanding of how this field has developed thus far, and are anticipated to trigger more systematic and fundamental research to elucidate the underlying physics and broaden the potential applications of macromolecular networks, biological and artificial. Adalimumab and secukinumab are commonly used for moderate to severe psoriasis vulgaris (PV). Although distinct individual responses to and impaired effectiveness of these biological agents occur occasionally, little is known about the underlying reasons. Here, we report a proteomic analysis of psoriatic lesions from patients treated with these drugs using data-independent acquisition mass spectrometry (DIA-MS). Thousands of differentially expressed proteins (DEPs) changed over 12 weeks of treatment. Network analysis showed that DEPs could interact and induce transformation in matrix components, metabolic regulation, and immune response. The results of parallel reaction monitoring (PRM) analysis suggested that S100s, STAT1, KRT2, TYMP, SOD2, HSP90AB1, TFRC, and COL5A1 were the most significantly changed proteins in both groups. There was a positive association between the Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI) score and three proteins (TFRC, IMPDH2, KRT2). Our study findings suggest that inhibition of IL-17A and TNF-α can induce changes in multiple molecules in psoriatic lesions and have an overlapping influence on the immune response and process through direct or indirect effects.

Entropy, as one of the key parameters defining thermodynamic systems, is extensively explored in various scientific fields covering physics, chemistry, biology, etc. Particularly, understanding the entropic effects in cellular uptake is critical to understanding how physicochemical interactions govern the structure, response, and function of biological systems. Herein, the major types of entropy in biological systems, the underlying physical principles of their entropic forces, as well as the entropic effects emerging at the interfaces between nanoparticles and cell membrane in diverse biological processes, are introduced. The emphasis is on the physical principles arisen from entropy in the cellular uptake process. Finally, the remaining challenges and future directions for understanding and thereby manipulating entropy‐meditated nanoparticle cellular uptake are discussed. It is hoped that this review can explain some complicated and/or unique phenomena observed during cellular uptake, elucidate the physical mechanisms underlying their structures and dynamical processes, and advance entropy‐controlled strategy in the design and development of novel functional systems and materials toward advantageous biomedical applications.
