In this study, a series of collagen–chitosan–eugenol (CO–CS–Eu) flow‐casting composite films were prepared using collagen from sturgeon skin, chitosan, and eugenol. The physicochemical properties, mechanical properties, microstructure, as well as antioxidant and antimicrobial activities of the composite membranes were investigated by various characterization techniques. The findings revealed that the inclusion of eugenol augmented the thickness of the film, darkened its color, reduced the transparency, and enhanced the ultraviolet light‐blocking capabilities, with the physicochemical properties of the CO–CS–0.25%Eu film being notably favorable. Eugenol generates increasingly intricate matrices that disperse within the system, thereby modifying the optical properties of the material. Furthermore, the tensile strength of the film decreased from 70.97 to 20.32 MPa, indicating that eugenol enhances the fluidity and ductility of the film. Added eugenol also exhibited structural impact by loosening the film cross‐section and decreasing its density. The Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy results revealed the occurrence of several intermolecular interactions among collagen, chitosan, and eugenol. Moreover, the incorporation of eugenol bolstered the antioxidant and antimicrobial capabilities of the composite film. This is primarily attributed to the abundant phenolic/hydroxyl groups present in eugenol, which can react with free radicals by forming phenoxy groups and neutralizing hydroxyl groups. Consequently, inclusion of eugenol substantially enhances the freshness retention performance of the composite film. Supramolecular organic framework (SOF) has recently garnered significant research interest in the field of luminescent materials. However, SOF with room‐temperature phosphorescence emission in solution is very rare due to the quenching of dissolved oxygen and free molecular motions, which would lead to nonradiative deactivation of triplet exciton in liquid state. In this work, a 3D cationic phosphorescent SOF is synthesized through host‐guest interaction between CB[8] and a tetrahedral monomer TBBP, which can rapidly adsorb anionic guests in solution. When anionic dyes are introduced, triplet to singlet Förster resonance energy transfer (TS‐FRET) in solution can be achieved, and delayed fluorescence with large Stokes shift can be realized. Additionally, when anionic drugs are introduced, the phosphorescence of TBBP‐CB[8] can be quenched due to charge transfer, enabling the detection of drugs through phosphorescence signals. Taking advantage of the fast adsorption property of 3D SOF, an INHIBIT logic gate with three inputs and two outputs is constructed. Feedback can be powerful, but its effects are dependent on what students do. There has been intensive research in recent years under the banner of 'feedback literacy' to understand how to help students make the most of feedback. Although there are instruments to measure feedback literacy, they largely measure perceptions and orientations rather than what learners actually do. This paper documents the development and validation of the Feedback Literacy Behaviour Scale (FLBS), which is a self-report instrument intended to measure students' feedback behaviours. A framework for feedback literacy was constructed with five factors: Seek Feedback information (SF), Make Sense of information (MS), Use Feedback information (UF), Provide Feedback information (PF), and Manage Affect (MA). An initial set of 45 questions were reviewed in an iterative process by feedback experts, resulting in 39 questions that were trialled with 350 student participants from four countries. Our final survey of 24 questions was generally supported by confirmatory factor and Rasch analyses, and has acceptable test-retest reliability. The FLBS provides a more robust way for educators and researchers to capture behavioural indicators of feedback literacy and the impact of interventions to improve it. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The detection of volatile amines is necessary due to the serious toxicity hazards they pose to human skin, respiratory systems, and nervous systems. However, traditional amines detection methods require bulky equipment, high costs, and complex measurements. Herein, we report a new simple, rapid, convenient, and visual method for the detection of volatile amines based on the gas–solid reactions of tetrachloro-p-benzoquinone (TCBQ) and volatile amines. The gas–solid reactions of TCBQ with a variety of volatile amines showed a visually distinct color in a time-dependent manner. Moreover, TCBQ can be easily fabricated into simple and flexible rapid test strips for detecting and distinguishing n-propylamine from other volatile amines, including ethylamine, n-butyamine, n-pentamine, n-butyamine and dimethylamine, in less than 3 s without any equipment assistance. Objectives: To study bone healing of two‐wall bone defects after alveolar ridge preservation using mineralized dentin matrix. Materials and Methods: After distal roots extraction of second and fourth premolars (P2, P4) on one lateral mandible in 12 beagles, two‐wall bone defects (5 × 5 × 5 mm) were surgically created distally to the remaining mesial roots of P2 and P4. A total of 24 sites were randomly allocated to three groups (implant material‐ time of execution): mineralized dentin matrix (MDM)‐3 m (MDM + collagen membrane; 3 months), MDM‐6 m (MDM particles + collagen membrane; 6 months), and C‐6 m (collagen membrane only; 6 months). Clinical, radiographic, digital, and histological examinations were performed 3 and 6 months after surgery. Results: The bone healing in MDM groups were better compared to Control group (volume of bone regenerated in total: 25.12 mm3 vs. 13.30 mm3, p =.046; trabecular volume/total volume: 58.84% vs. 39.18%, p =.001; new bone formation rate: 44.13% vs. 31.88%, p =.047). Vertically, the radiological bone level of bone defect in MDM‐6 m group was higher than that in C‐6 m group (vertical height of bone defect: 1.55 mm vs. 2.74 mm, p =.018). Horizontally, no significant differences in buccolingual bone width were found between MDM and C groups at any time or at any level below the alveolar ridge. The percentages of remaining MDM were <1% in both MDM‐3 m and MDM‐6 m groups. This paper conducted an experimental study of a charged liquid film subjected to the coupling effect of acoustic oscillations and an electrostatic field perpendicular to the plane. The experimental system was established. Three different substances—de-ionized water, ionized liquid (BMIMBF4), and a 50 wt. % glycerin–water solution—were utilized to form the liquid film. An oscillator was employed to generate the acoustic oscillations, while the electrostatic field was produced by a high-voltage power supply. Both the increase in oscillating frequency and electric field intensity were observed to alter the surface waveform and elevate the surface wavenumber. This study investigated the changes in brain gray and white matter structure in SMA patients and their correlation with the severity of the disease. A total of 43 SMA patients (including 22 type II and 21 type III SMA patients) and 37 healthy controls were evaluated by MRI. The gray matter volume, gray matter thickness, gray matter surface area, and white matter volume of designated brain regions automatically segmented by FreeSurfer, were compared. We evaluate clinical characteristics of SMA and study the correlation between clinical characteristics and structural changes. SMA showed significant bilateral cortical superficial area loss in the frontal, parietal, and temporal lobes and global white matter volume decreases. Moreover, these patients were also found with an increased mean thickness of entire brain and right gray matter. An increased right postcentral gyrus superficial area, right central sulcus volume, and white matter volume of the right postcentral were associated with higher HFMSE scores. Conclusion: Type 2 and 3 children SMA had extensive, multifocal, symmetrical gray and white matter alterations. Postcentral gyrus degeneration of SMA was associated with the severity of muscular atrophy. The lack of SMN protein possibly interacted with cerebellar structural changes in somatosensory areas. What is Known: • MRI has found brain changes in SMA patients, however, there is no unified conclusion and lack of correlation with clinical degree in children SMA with type 2-3. What is New: • Type II and II children SMA had extensive, multifocal, symmetrical gray and white matter alterations. Supramolecular organic luminescent materials with different dimensionalities usually exhibit different optical properties as well as their potential applications in various fields. Recent reports showed that non-covalent interactions are useful tools to obtain diverse luminescent materials due to their dynamicity and reversibility, including π–π stacking, host–guest interactions, hydrophobic effects, hydrogen bonding, electrostatic effects and so on. In this review, we summarized recent progress in zero-, one-, two-, three-dimensional and disordered organic luminescent materials using the aforementioned strategies, in order to provide a solution for designing luminescent materials with specific structures and morphologies. The relationship between assembly behavior and luminescent properties is discussed in detail, along with the existing difficulties hindering the development of supramolecular assembly systems and future research directions. Background: Cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury (CIRI) is the main cause leading to high mortality and neurological disability in patients with cardiac arrest/cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CA/CPR). Our previous study found that extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) activation, dynamin-related protein1 (Drp1)/Mitofusin2 (Mfn2)-dependent mitochondrial dynamics imbalance, and excessive autophagy were involved in the mechanism of nerve injury after CA/CPR. However, the specific pathological signaling pathway is still unknown. This study aimed to explore the molecular function changes of ERK-Drp1/Mfn2-autophagy signaling pathway in SH-SY5Y cell oxygen-glucose deprivation/reoxygenation (OGD/R) model, to further clarify the pathophysiological mechanism of CIRI, and to provide a new strategy for cerebral protection after CIRI. Methods: SH-SY5Y cells were pretreated with drugs 24 h before OGD/R. The Drp1 and Mfn2 knockdown were adopted small interfering RNAs. The overexpression of p-Drp1S616 and Mfn2 were used recombinant plasmids. The expression levels of mitochondrial dynamics proteins (p-Drp1, Drp1, Mfn2, Mfn1 and Opa1) and autophagy markers (LC3, Beclin1 and p62) were measured with the Western blotting. The mRNA levels after transfection were determined by PCR. Cell injury and viability were evaluated with released LDH activity and CCK8 assay kits. Mitochondria morphology and autophagosome were observed under transmission electron microscopy. Mitochondrial function was detected by the mitochondrial permeability transition pore assay kit. The co-expression of p-ERK, p-Drp1 and LC3 was assessed with multiple immunofluorescences. One-way analysis of variance followed by least significance difference post hoc analysis (for equal homogeneity) or Dunnett’s T3 test (for unequal homogeneity) were used for statistical tests. Results: ERK inhibitor-PD98059 (PD) protects SH-SY5Y cells from OGD/R-induced injury; while ERK activator-TPA had the opposite effect. Similar to autophagy inhibitor 3-MA, PD downregulated autophagy to improve cell viability; while autophagy activator-rapamycin further aggravated cell death. PD and Drp1-knockdown synergistically attenuated OGD/R-induced Drp1 activation, mPTP opening and cell injury; overexpression of Drp1S616E or ablating Mfn2 partly abolished the protective effects of PD. Multiple immunofluorescences showed that p-ERK, p-Drp1 and LC3 were co-expressed. Students are the central agent in self-assessment; therefore, their perceptions are crucial for successful self-assessment. Despite the increasing number of empirical studies exploring how students perceive self-assessment, systematic reviews synthesising students’ perceptions of self-assessment and relating them to self-assessment implementation are scarce. This review covered 44 eligible studies and synthesised findings related to two key aspects of students’ perceptions of self-assessment: (1) usefulness of self-assessment; and (2) factors influencing their implementation of self-assessment. The results revealed inconclusive findings regarding students’ perceived usefulness of self-assessment. Although most studies reported a generally positive perception of self-assessment among students, some studies revealed students’ skepticism about its usefulness. Usefulness was influenced by specific individual factors (i.e., gender, age, and educational level) and instructional factors (i.e., external feedback, use of instruments, and self-assessment purpose). Additionally, implementation was influenced by specific individual factors (i.e., perceived usefulness, affective attitude, self-efficacy, important others, and psychological safety) and instructional factors (i.e., practice and training, external feedback, use of instruments, and environmental support). The findings of this review contribute to a better understanding of students’ perceptions of self-assessment and shed light on the design and implementation of meaningful self-assessment activities that cater to students’ learning needs. Background: Human papillomavirus (HPV) 33 belongs to the Alphapapillomavirus 9 (α-9 HPV) species group, which also contains types 16, 31, 35, 52, 58 and 67. The purpose of this study was to investigate the genetic variations of HPV33 and to explore its carcinogenicity among women in Taizhou, Southeast China. Methods: Exfoliated cervical cells were collected for HPV genotyping. Only single HPV33 infection cases were selected, and their E6 and E7 genes were sequenced using the ABI 3730xl sequencer and then analysed using MEGA X. Results: From 2014 to 2020, a total of 185 single HPV33-positive specimens were successfully amplified. We obtained 15 distinct HPV33 E6/E7 variants, which were published in GenBank under accession numbers OQ672665-OQ672679. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that all HPV33 E6/E7 variants belonged to lineage A, of which 75.7% belonged to lineage A1. Compared with CIN1, the proportion of sublineage A1 in CIN2/3 was higher, but there was no significant difference (76.5% vs. 80.6%, P > 0.05). Altogether, 20 single nucleotide substitutions were identified, of which 6 were novel substitutions, including T196G (C30G), A447T, G458T (R117L), G531A, A704A, and C740T. In addition, no significant trends were observed between the nucleotide substitutions of HPV33 E6/E7 variants and the risk of cervical lesions. Conclusion: This study provides the most comprehensive data on genetic variations, phylogenetics and carcinogenicity of HPV33 E6/E7 variants in Southeast China to date. Online peer assessment (OPA) has been increasingly adopted to develop students' higher‐order thinking (HOT). However, there has not been a synthesis of research findings on its effects. To fill this gap, 17 papers (published from 2000 to 2022) that reported either a comparison between a group using OPA (n = 7; k = 22) and a control group or a pre–post comparison (n = 10; k = 17) were reviewed in this meta‐analysis. The overall effect of OPA on HOT was significant (g = 0.76). Furthermore, OPA exerted more significant effects on convergent HOT (eg, critical thinking, reasoning and reflective thinking; g = 0.97) than on divergent HOT (eg, creativity and problem‐solving; g = 0.38). Reciprocal roles and anonymity were found to positively moderate the impacts of OPA on HOT, although their moderating effects were not statistically significant because of small sample size of studies in the analysis. The results of the meta‐analysis reinforce the arguments for regarding OPA as a powerful learning tool to facilitate students' HOT development and reveal important factors that should be considered when adopting OPA to enhance students' HOT. The self-system model of motivational development was used in this study to examine whether and how student motivation and self-assessment practices—as psychological and behavioural mechanisms, respectively—link need-supportive teaching to students' objective achievement scores in English language learning. We applied a multilevel mediation analysis on Rasch-calibrated data from 796 students (53% females; mean age = 14.12, SD = 1.51) nested within 30 classes (mean class size = 26.53) in a secondary school in the Philippines. We collected all predictor variables (i.e. need-supportive teaching, motivation, self-assessment practice) in time 1, while achievement scores were collected eight weeks later (time 2). Lower-level mediation results show that students' perceptions of involved teaching and structured teaching are associated with higher controlled motivation and autonomous motivation. Furthermore, only autonomous motivation was associated with higher achievement in time 2. Self-assessment practice significantly mediated the link between both controlled and autonomous motivation to achievement. These results held while controlling for age, gender, and socioeconomic status. Hence, involved teaching and structured teaching correlated with higher motivation and increased self-assessment practice, which, in turn, leads to higher achievement in English language learning. The findings highlight that motivation and self-assessment practices are psychological and behavioural pathways that can theoretically and empirically explain how need-supportive teaching practices impact student achievement in a specific subject. The detective/crime pulp series Vee Brown (Carroll John Daly) and Needle Mike (William E. Barrett) incorporate elements of contemporaneous criminological theory into their narratives as explanatory devices for social deviance. Initially, they align themselves along the dominant etiological divide of the 1920s and 1930s: intrinsic tendencies versus environmental factors, respectively. Over the course of individual stories and series arcs, internal contradictions arise in the representations of these positions, which are resolved, to some degree, in the contemporaneous anomie theory of Robert Merton. High‐resolution perovskite quantum dots (PeQDs) arrays printed by electrohydrodynamic (EHD) inkjet printing show great application prospects in fields of micro‐display. Commonly, EHD inkjet requires a polar system for printing but it easily quenches the PeQDs. Meanwhile, the mismatch of solvent parameters causes uneven surface morphology and printing instability. In this work, a morphology uniformization strategy of a nonpolar binary solvent system of 1,3,5‐triethylbenzene and n‐tetradecane is proposed to prepare the didodecyldimethylammonium bromide (DDAB)/PbBr2 passivated PeQDs inks. When the solvent volume ratio is 5:5, the photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) of the ink reaches 94.06%. Benefiting from the match of boiling point, surface tension, and dielectric constant of ink, after the EHD inkjet printing, the line width of continuous smooth line arrays is as narrow as 2.0 µm and the coffee effect of dot arrays is well inhibited. Meanwhile, derived from the strong electrostatic interaction between the π‐electron structure of 1,3,5‐triethylbenzene and DDA+, the ink exhibits high stability. Moreover, the high‐resolution logo and miniature quick responsecode by EHD inkjet printing reach 22 718 dpi, far higher than that of the reported micro‐LED. Social contagion has been documented across various domains. However, this phenomenon has not been explored in relation to formative assessment in schools. This study examines the social contagion of school teachers' formative assessment practices and self-efficacy. A sample of 296 teachers from 12 Hong Kong primary and secondary schools participated in this study. All participants completed the same questionnaire twice, one year apart. The longitudinal results showed that formative assessment practices and self-efficacy were socially contagious. When teachers had colleagues who engaged in formative assessment practices and had high self-efficacy, they were more likely to engage in formative assessment and become more efficacious themselves. Also, school-level formative assessment self-efficacy predicted individual-level formative assessment practices demonstrating the importance of collective efficacy. Based on the self-system processes model of motivation, we explored the mediating role of academic self-concept in the relationship between perseverance of effort and self-assessment. The results showed that perseverance of effort has a positive but not statistically significant association with self-assessment when controlling academic self-concept. The results supported our hypotheses that academic self-concept, whether at the domain-specific or component-specific level, significantly mediated the effect of the perseverance of effort on self-assessment, lending empirical support to the closer conceptual link between self-perceptions and self-assessment practices in learning. The results contribute to the literature of the three research lines (grit, academic self-concept and self-assessment) and suggest that academic self-concept enhancement interventions are beneficial not only to academic achievement based on the reciprocal relationship that has been well documented in the self-concept literature but also to self-assessment in the light of the self-system processes model of motivation. Immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) treatment has created the opportunity of improved outcome for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, only a minority of HCC patients benefit from ICI treatment owing to poor treatment efficacy and safety concerns. There are few predictive factors that precisely stratify HCC responders to immunotherapy. In this study, we developed a tumour microenvironment risk (TMErisk) model to divide HCC patients into different immune subtypes and evaluated their prognosis. Our results indicated that virally mediated HCC patients who had more common tumour protein P53 (TP53) alterations with lower TMErisk scores were appropriate for ICI treatment. HCC patients with alcoholic hepatitis who more commonly harboured catenin beta 1 (CTNNB1) alterations with higher TMErisk scores could benefit from treatment with multi-tyrosine kinase inhibitors. The developed TMErisk model represents the first attempt to anticipate tumour tolerance of ICIs in the TME through the degree of immune infiltration in HCCs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Despite the general consensus on the positive impact of formative assessment on student learning, researchers have not shown the underlying mechanisms between specific formative assessment strategies and academic performance on an international sample. This study examines the link between student and teacher reports of teachers' formative assessment strategies (i.e. clarifying goals and monitoring progress, providing feedback, and instructional adjustments) and students' reading achievement, based on data from 151,969 fifteen‐year‐olds in 5,225 schools in 19 countries/regions in PISA 2018 via multilevel analysis of plausible values. The results show that clarifying goals and monitoring progress, and instruction adjustments are positively linked to reading achievement, but providing feedback alone has no significant impact. These findings highlight the complexity of formative assessment as a multifaceted concept and the different impacts of formative assessment strategies on student learning. It has been suggested for many years that students who are able to judge their own performance should do well in academic assessments. Despite the increasing number of empirical studies investigating the effect of self-assessment on academic performance, there has not been a recent synthesis of findings in the higher education context. The current meta-analysis aims to synthesise the effects of self-assessment on academic performance. In particular, it examines the difference between situations in which the process of self-assessment is revealed or observable (explicit) or not revealed or unobservable (implicit). A total of 98 effect sizes from 26 studies either reported a comparison between a group with self-assessment interventions and a control group (n = 20, k = 88) or a pre-post comparison (n = 6, k = 10). The overall effect of such interventions was significant (g =.455). Self-assessment interventions involving explicit feedback from others on students' performance had a significantly larger effect size (g =.664) than those without explicit feedback (g =.213). There were no other significant moderators identified for either the overall effect or the effect of interventions involving explicit feedback. Objective: Our present study intended to examine the associations of RPEL1 and miR-1307 gene polymorphisms (rs4917385 and rs7911488) with susceptibility, glucocorticoids (GCs) efficacy, anxiety, depression, and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in Chinese systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients. Methods: Initially, 1000 participants (500 SLE cases and 500 controls) were recruited for the case–control study. Then, 429 cases who received GCs were followed through 12 weeks to explore GCs efficacy, depression, anxiety, and HRQoL. We selected the iMLDR technique for genotyping: RPEL1: rs4917385 (G/T) and miR-1307: rs7911488 (A/G). Results: The minor G allele of rs7911488 reduced the risk of SLE (p =.024). Four haplotypes consisting of rs4917385 and rs7911488 were associated with SLE susceptibility (p <.025). Both rs4917385 and rs7911488 were associated with anxiety symptoms and physical function (PF) in SLE patients (p <.025). The rs4917385 was associated with depression and its improvement. No statistical significance was found between RPEL1 and miR-1307 gene polymorphisms with GCs efficacy. Meanwhile, additive interaction analysis showed a significant association between RPEL1 and miR-1307 gene polymorphisms with tea consumption in anxiety. Both student feedback literacy and self-assessment are crucial for developing self-regulated and lifelong learning in higher education. The relationship between these two concepts is important but as yet understudied. Using self-assessment to develop students' feedback literacy has been mentioned in relevant literature, but how feedback literacy can facilitate self-assessment practice remains unclear. The purpose of this conceptual article is twofold. First, we articulate the interplay between feedback literacy and self-assessment based on a reframing and integration of the two concepts. Secondly, we unfold the self-assessment process into three steps: (1) determining and applying assessment criteria, (2) self-reflection, and (3) self-assessment judgement and calibration. For each step, we propose a pedagogical principle and recommend feedback practices that facilitate meaningful self-assessment. 3D printed concrete has become increasing popular in research and industry communities, while it faces a lack of effective internal reinforcement. Fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) reinforcement, which has been used widely as reinforcement for concrete structures, has also been adopted to enhance the performance of 3D printed concrete structures. However, conventional FRP manufacturing processes such as pultrusion does not allow on-site forming of the products, leading to difficulties in construction. This paper aims to solve the above issues by developing a novel form of 3D printed continuous fiber reinforced thermoplastic polymers (CFRTPs) reinforcement for 3D printed concrete structures. An experimental program on tensile behavior of 3D printed CFRTP bars and grids was conducted. Then the CFRTP reinforcement was used for 3D printed high-performance concrete to explore the effectiveness of the reinforcement. Twenty-two 3D printed concrete plates were tested to explore the effects of the loading direction and fabrication type on the flexural behavior of FRP reinforced high-performance concrete plates. Results show that the performance of the 3D printed HPC plates can be considerably enhanced owning to the FRP reinforcement and the CFRTP reinforcement are comparable to conventional FRP reinforcement with similar dimensions. This study identifies further research needs on CFRTP reinforcement for construction and will pave the way for studies on 3D printed reinforced concrete structures with both concrete and FRP reinforcement being printed simultaneously. Objective To investigate the associations of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) genetic variants with SLE susceptibility, glucocorticoid (GC) efficacy and prognosis. Methods Our study was done in two stages. First, we performed whole mitochondrial genome sequencing in 100 patients and 100 controls to initially screen potential mtDNA variants associated with disease and GC efficacy. Then, we validated the results in an independent set of samples. In total, 605 SLE patients and 604 normal controls were included in our two-stage study. A two-stage efficacy study was conducted in 512 patients treated with GCs for 12 weeks. We also explored the association between mtDNA variants and SLE prognosis. Results In the combined sample, four mtDNA variants (A4833G, T5108C, G14569A, CA514-515-) were associated with SLE susceptibility (all P BH < 0.05). We confirmed that T16362C was related to efficacy of GCs (P BH = 0.014). Significant associations were detected between T16362C and T16519C and the efficacy of GCs in females with SLE (P BH < 0.05). In the prognosis study, variants A4833G (P BH = 0.003) and G14569A (P BH = 9.744 × 10−4) substantially increased SLE relapse risk. Female patients harbouring variants T5108C and T16362C were more prone to relapse (P BH < 0.05). Haplotype analysis showed that haplogroup G was linked with SLE susceptibility (P BH = 0.001) and prognosis (P BH = 0.013). Moreover, mtDNA variant–environment interactions were observed. Conclusion We identified novel mtDNA genetic variants that were associated with SLE susceptibility, GC efficacy, and prognosis. Interactions between mtDNA variants and environmental factors were related to SLE risk and GC efficacy. We explored the feasibility and efficacy of a degradable magnesium (Mg) alloy guided bone regeneration (GBR) in the treatment of bone defects after tooth extraction. A GBR membrane (MAR-Gide (MG)) was used to treat a mandibular second molar (M2M)-distal bone defect (DBD). In eight beagle dogs, bilateral mandibular second and fourth premolars were hemi-sected. The distal roots were removed to create a two-wall bony defect of dimension 5 mm × 5 mm × 5 mm to simulate M2M-DBD. Thirty-two bone defects were assigned randomly into four groups according to GBR membranes (MG and Bio-Gide (BG)) applied and the time of killing (3 months and 6 months after surgery). The osteogenesis of bone defects and MG degradation were analyzed using micro-CT, histology (staining, tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase), and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. MG did not increase the prevalence of infection, wound dehiscence, or subcutaneous emphysema compared with those using BG. Trabecular volume/total volume at 3 months (63.71 ± 10.4% vs. 59.97 ± 8.94%) was significantly higher in the group MG than that in the group BG. Implanted MG was degraded completely within 3 months, and "island-shaped" new bone was found near MG degradation products. A significant difference was not found in vertical bone height or percent of new bone formation (45.44 ± 12.28% vs. 43.49 ± 7.12%) between the groups. The concentration of rare-earth elements in mandibular lymph nodes of the group MG was significantly higher than that of the group BG (P ≤ 0.017) but did not lead to histopathological changes. In summary, MG exhibited good biocompatibility and clinical applicability compared with BG in vivo. The osteogenic effect of MG could be enhanced by regulating the degradation rate of Mg-alloy. Recent research progress shows that graphene exhibits distinct adhesion and friction behaviors. In the paper, the static and dynamic analyses of a diamond tip sliding on suspended graphene surface are conducted via theoretical and numerical research methods, and the adhesion and friction properties between them are investigated. The analytical expression of interaction potential between a diamond tip and graphene surface is derived based on the interatomic pairwise potential, and then, the lateral and normal interaction forces are calculated. The equilibrium heights and adhesion energy of the diamond tip are calculated on three particular sites of graphene surface. The influence of vertical distance between the tip and graphene surface is studied on the maximum static frictional force and initial velocity of tip. What is more, the influence of scanning velocity and damping are also analyzed on the frictional force and dynamic behaviors of the scanning tip, and the "stick-slip" phenomenon is observed and discussed by the numerical calculation. With the rapid aging of Japanese society and increasing concerns over the welfare of people with psychiatric disorders, intellectual disability, and dementia, a renewed adult guardianship system based on the notion of respect for self-determination, the practical use of one’s remaining abilities, and re-socialization, has now been in place for 20 years. Japanese adult guardianship practices are understudied in English language literature; thus, this article presents an overview of recent developments in Japan’s adult guardianship system and geriatric social work initiatives adopted in Japan’s adult guardianship practice. The authors found that the guardianship system not only helped the elderly live better with dementia but also contributed to the realization of “ageing in place” in the community-based integrated care system. Background: Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) represents an important pathogenic factor of lymphoma and is significantly associated with poor clinical outcome of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). Circular RNAs (circRNAs) play an essential role in lymphoma progression. However, the underlying mechanism of circRNA on DLBCL progression related to EBV remains largely unknown. Methods: CircRNA was screened by high-throughput sequencing in tumor samples of 12 patients with DLBCL according to EBV infection status. Expression of circEAF2, as well as the relationship with clinical characteristics and prognosis, were further analyzed in tumor samples of 100 DLBCL patients using quantitative real-time PCR. Gain- and loss-of-function experiments were conducted to investigate the biological functions of circEAF2 both in vitro and in vivo. The underlying mechanism of circRNA on DLBCL progression were further determined by RNA sequencing, RNA pull down assay, dual-luciferase reporter assay, rescue experiments and western blotting. Results: We identified a novel circRNA circEAF2, which was downregulated in EBV + DLBCL and negatively correlated with EBV infection and DLBCL progression. In EBV-positive B lymphoma cells, circEAF2 overexpression induced lymphoma cell apoptosis and sensitized lymphoma cells to epirubicin. As mechanism of action, circEAF2 specifically targeted EBV-encoded miR-BART19-3p, upregulated APC, and suppressed downstream β-catenin expression, resulting in inactivation of Wnt signaling pathway and inhibition of EBV + DLBCL cell proliferation. In EBV-positive B-lymphoma murine models, xenografted tumors with circEAF2 overexpression presented decreased Ki-67 positivity, increased cell apoptosis and retarded tumor growth. Conclusions: CircEAF2 counteracted EBV + DLBCL progression via miR-BART19-3p/APC/β-catenin axis, referring circEAF2 as a potential prognostic biomarker. Both formative assessment and growth mindset scholars aim to understand how to enhance achievement. While research on formative assessment focuses on external teaching practices, work on growth mindset emphasises internal psychological processes. This study examined the interplay between three formative assessment strategies (i.e. sharing learning progressions, providing feedback, and instructional adjustments) and growth mindset in predicting reading achievement using the PISA2018 data. We focused specifically on samples from the West (the United States, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand) and the East (Mainland China, Hong Kong SAR, Macau SAR, Chinese Taipei, Japan and Korea) which comprised of 109,204 15-year old students. The results showed that formative assessment strategies were positively, albeit weakly, related to a growth mindset in the East, but not in the West. In contrast, growth mindset was positively related to reading achievement only in the West, but not in the East. The impacts of different formative assessment strategies on reading achievement demonstrated cross-cultural variability, but the strongest positive predictor was instructional adjustments. These findings highlight the potential synergy between formative assessment and growth mindset in enhancing academic achievement as well as the importance of cultural contexts in understanding their roles in student learning. Melatonin is a highly conserved molecule that regulates day/night rhythms; it is associated with sleep improvement, reactive oxygen species (ROS) scavenging, anti‐aging effects, and seasonal and circadian rhythms and has been a hot topic of research for decades. Using single‐cell RNA sequencing, a recent study describes a single‐cell transcriptome atlas for the rat pineal gland. Based on a more comprehensive analysis of the retrieved data (Mays et al., PLoS One, 2018, 13, e0205883), results from the current study unveiled the underappreciated gene regulatory network behind different cell populations in the pineal gland. More importantly, our study here characterized, for the first time, the day/night activation of autophagy flux in the rat pineal gland, indicating a potential role of autophagy in regulating melatonin synthesis in the rat pineal gland. These findings emphasized a hypothetical role of day/night autophagy in linking the biological clock with melatonin synthesis. Furthermore, ultrastructure analysis of pinealocytes provided fascinating insights into differences in their intracellular structure between daytime and nighttime. In addition, we also provide a preliminary description of cell‐cell communication in the rat pineal gland. Transient electronics has attracted interest as an emerging technology to solve electronic-waste problem, due to its physically vanishing ability in solution. Here in this work, we demonstrate a flexible and degradable transient resistive switching (RS) memory device with simple structure of Cu/sodium alginate (SA)/ITO. The device presents excellent RS characteristics as well as high flexibility, including low operating voltage (< 1.5 V) and multilevel RS behavior. No performance degradation occurs after bending the device 50 times. Moreover, our device can be absolutely dissolved in deionized water. The negative symptoms of schizophrenia without effective therapeutic agents seriously affect the quality of life. Studies investigating the neurobiological mechanisms of the negative symptoms of schizophrenia failed to provide a unanimous conclusion, but generally accepted to be related to the prefrontal cortex (PFC). Resveratrol is a kind of natural plant polyphenol and has a potential role in negative symptoms treatment for its neuroprotective effects. To investigate the metabolic mechanism of the negative symptoms and the therapeutic effect of resveratrol on it, we analyzed the metabolic changes in the PFC of MK-801-induced schizophrenia model using ex vivo 1H nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. And then, after chromic administration of resveratrol, we tested the social interaction behaviors of the schizophrenia model and analyzed the metabolic changes in the PFC. Our results showed that the levels of alanine (Ala), glutamate (Glu), tautine (Tau), glynine (Gly), choline (Cho), and valine (Val) are significantly decreased compared to control animals. The social deficits of MK-801-treated mice are improved after resveratrol administration. And the levels of Glu, Gly, and Cho were reversed after the treatment of resveratrol. In conclusion, our results suggest that the negative symptoms are associated with decreased concentration of Ala, Glu, Tau, Gly, Cho, Val in PFC and the social deficits could be recovered by resveratrol treatment, as well as the levels of Glu, Gly, and Cho in PFC. Inhibition of plasmid transfer, including transformation and conjugation, is essential to prevent the spread of plasmid-encoded antimicrobial resistance. Photosensitizers have been successfully used in the treatment of serious infectious diseases, however, the effects of photosensitizers on the plasmid transfer are still elusive. In this study, we determined the transformation and conjugation efficiency of plasmid pUC19 and pRP4, respectively, when exposed to a photosensitizer (Visible Light-activated Rose Bengal, VLRB). The results showed that the activation of VLRB resulted in up to a 580-fold decrease in the transformation frequency of pUC19 and a 10-fold decrease in the conjugation frequency of pRP4 compared with the non-VLRB control. The inhibition of pUC19 transformation by VLRB exhibited a dose-dependent manner and was attributed to the changes in the plasmid conformation. The inhibition of pRP4 conjugation was associated with the generation of extracellular free radicals, induced oxidative stress, suppression of the mating pair formation gene (trbBp) and DNA transfer and replication gene (trfAp), and enhanced expression of the global regulatory genes (korA , korB , and trbA). These findings highlight the potential of visible light-activated photosensitizer for mitigating the dissemination of plasmid-encoded antibiotic resistance genes. The global spread of antimicrobial resistance among humans, animals, and environments is an urgent public health threat worldwide. Developing methods for the prevention of plasmid transfer is essential to mitigate the spread of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs). This study demonstrated that VLRB treatment significantly inhibited the transformation and conjugation of plasmids and depicted the underlying mechanisms, suggesting the potential of VLRB treatment for the prevention of plasmid-encoded ARG transfer in both clinical and environmental settings. Objective: to reflect on the implications of Home Office work in the covid-19 pandemic period on individuals' health, from the perspective of the Adaptation Theory developed by Callista Roy. Method: reflective study based on the application of the Adaptation Theory developed by Callista Roy related to changes in the work process imposed by the health crisis of the COVID-19 pandemic, with emphasis on the Home Office. Results: Callista Roy's Adaptation Theory has four adaptive modes: physiological, self-concept, role performance and interdependence. There is the interlocution of all these dimensions at Home Office work imposed by the pandemic context. Conclusion: Callista Roy's Theory supports discussions about the possibility of adaptation in this new context, either in a specific way or through transformations in the long-term work process, overcoming limitations of the individual and discovering ways to do and be in the work field. Although students who self-assess effectively often learn better, creating effective, low-cost interventions to help them do so is a critical challenge. This study examined the effects of a self-assessment diary intervention on 74 Form 1 (Mage = 12.2 years) students' academic achievement, self-regulation, and motivation. After each homework assignment, students in the experimental group (n = 37) completed a standardised self-assessment diary, while students in the control group (n = 37) did no additional work. Difference-in-differences analyses showed that self-assessment diaries significantly enhanced students' academic achievement, self-efficacy, and intrinsic value. Students with lower past achievement benefited more than other students from the intervention. The intervention had no significant impact on effort regulation and self-reflection. Furthermore, effort-regulation, self-reflection, self-efficacy, and intrinsic value all did not mediate the link between self-assessment diaries and academic achievement. Objectives: This study aimed to quantitatively compare the somatosensory function changes of inferior alveolar nerve (IAN) after mandibular third molar extraction with a surgery protocol of coronectomy, as opposed to the conventional method. Materials and methods: Patients with a lower third molar directly contacting IAN were recruited and assigned either to a test group (coronectomy group) or a control group (conventional extraction). A standardized quantitative sensory testing (QST) battery was performed for four times: one week before surgery and the second, seventh, and 28th days after surgery. Z-scores and the loss/gain coding system were applied for each participant. Results: A total of 140 molars (test group: n = 91, control group: n = 49) were enrolled. The sensitivity of the mechanical detection threshold (MDT) and pressure pain threshold (PPT) significantly increased after surgery more than before surgery in both groups (P ≤ 0.001). After the surgery, the sensitivities of the cold detection threshold (CDT), cold pain threshold (CPT), and heat pain threshold (HPT) were significantly higher in the test group than in the control group (P ≤ 0.027). The risk of IANI was significantly larger (P = 0.041) in the test group than in the control group. Conclusions: QST was a sensitive way to detect somatosensory abnormalities even with no subjective complaint caused by surgery. Coronectomy had less influence on IAN function than conventional total extraction. Clinical relevance: The somatosensory function changes after mandibular third molar extraction were quantitatively studied, and coronectomy was proved a reliable alternation to reduce IAN injury rate. Crystalized deposits of monosodium urate activate the Nod-like receptor protein 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome, resulting in kidney damage. The present study investigated whether the NLRP3 inflammasome is associated with the progression of hyperuricaemia and gouty nephropathy. Adult male patients were recruited at the Affiliated Baoan Hospital of Shenzhen and divided into three groups of 15 patients each: The control group, the hyperuricaemia group and the gouty nephropathy group. General characteristics and organ function indicators were also measured for each patient. NLRP3, apoptosis-associated speck like protein (ASC) and caspase-1 mRNA and protein expressions in peripheral blood mononuclear cells were detected. The expression of certain downstream inflammatory factors, including interleukin (IL)-1β and IL-18 were also assessed in plasma. The results demonstrated that the concentration of uric acid and creatinine were increased in the hyperuricaemia and gouty nephropathy groups compared with the control group. NLRP3, ASC and caspase-1 mRNA and protein expression, and IL-1β and IL-18 expression were increased in the hyperuricaemia and gouty nephropathy groups compared with the control group. In addition, ASC and caspase-1 mRNA and protein expression, and IL-1β expression were higher in the gouty nephropathy group compared with the hyperuricaemia group. In conclusion, the present results supported the hypothesis that the NLRP3 inflammasome signalling pathway is associated with gouty nephropathy leading to initiation of the inflammatory response and causing renal damage. BACKGROUND Citrus fiber is a main component in the peel of citrus and contains natural dietary fiber. It is often used as a functional additive to improve the texture or nutritional property of food. It is also widely used to reduce the content of absorbable fat in sausages and other meat products, and to improve food stability as an emulsifier. In this research, the dynamic rheological properties (linear and non‐linear) of citrus peel fiber/corn oil (CF/CO) emulsion system under high pressure homogenization (HPH) treatment was investigated. RESULT: Rheological results illustrated HPH treatment significantly increased the apparent viscosity of the emulsion, reduced the activation energy of the emulsion and distinctly improved the viscoelasticity of the emulsion. Meanwhile, HPH treatment increased the linear viscoelastic region of the sample, and the behavior of the emulsion converted from strain thinning (without HPH treatment) to weak strain overshoot (with HPH treatment). Lissajous curves indicated the viscosity of the sample increased first and then decreased with strain increasing and the third harmonic contributed much more to the first harmonic compared with the fifth harmonic. Chebyshev stress decomposition revealed that, as strain increased, the samples with HPH treatment showed internal‐cycle strain hardening behavior first, then turned to internal‐cycle softening behavior. Objectives: We aimed to investigate whether skeletal‐specific H‐type blood vessels exist in alveolar bone and how they function in alveolar bone remodeling. Materials and Methods: H‐type vessels with high expression of CD31 and Endomucin (CD31hiEmcnhi) were immunostained in alveolar bone. Abundance and age‐related changes in CD31hiEmcnhi endothelial cells (H‐ECs) were detected by flow cytometry. Osteoprogenitors association with H‐type vessels and bone mass were detected in tooth extraction model of alveolar bone remodeling by immunohistofluorescence and micro‐CT, respectively. Transcription and expression of H‐EC feature genes during in vitro Notch inhibition were measured by RT‐qPCR and immunocytofluorescence. Results: We verified that H‐type vessels existed in alveolar bone, the abundance of which was highest at infancy age, then decreased but maintained a constant level during aging. In tooth extraction model, H‐ECs significantly increased with concomitant perivascular accumulation of Runx2+ osteoprogenitors and gradually augmentation of bone mass. Notch inhibition of in vitro cultured H‐ECs resulted in decreased expression levels of Emcn and hes1, but not Pecam1 or Kdr genes, with decreased expression levels of H‐EC numbers, accordingly. Conclusions: The present study suggests that H‐type vessels promote osteogenesis during alveolar bone remodeling. The potential environmental implications of a Pb (Lead)-Zn (Zinc) sulfide tailing impoundment were found to be dependent on its geochemical characteristics. One typical lead-zinc sulfide tailing impoundment was studied. Ten boreholes were set with the grid method and 36 tailings were sampled and tested. According to the results of metal content analysis, the tailing samples contained considerably high contents of heavy metals, ranging from 6.99 to 89.0 mg/kg for Cd, 75.3 to 602 mg/kg for Cu, 0.53% to 2.63% for Pb and 0.30% to 2.54% for Zn. Most of the heavy metals in the sample matrix showed a uniform concentration distribution, except Cd. Cd, Pb, Zn, and Mn were associated with each other, and were considered to be the dominant contributors based on hierarchical cluster analysis. XRD, SEM and XPS were employed for evaluation of the tailing weathering characteristics, confirming that the tailings had undergone intensive weathering. The maximum potential acidity of the tailings reached 244 kg H 2 SO 4 /ton; furthermore, the bioavailability of heavy metals like Pb, Cd, Cr, Cu, and Zn was 37.8%, 12.9%, 12.2%, 5.95%, and 5.46% respectively. These metals would be potentially released into drainage by the weathering process. Analysis of a gastrointestinal model showed that Pb, Cr, Ni and Cu contained in the tailings were high-risk metals. Within Chinese culture, one way that family and friends demonstrate that they care about one‐another is by making body‐related comments. How such comments are experienced by young women, in particular, including how they relate to their psychological disposition and/or use of unhealthy weight control behaviors, is unknown. The purposes of this study were to understand the frequency and type of body‐related comments Chinese college women received, from whom, and their associations with body mass index (BMI), body satisfaction, body change motivations, and unhealthy weight control behaviors. Women from a comprehensive university in Southwest China (N = 236) participated in this cross‐sectional study. Results showed that female Chinese college students received body‐related comments most frequently from their friends, followed by parents, and romantic partners. While the frequency of receiving body‐related comments was not associated with BMI, higher frequencies were associated with stronger motivation to lose weight/fat and to practice unhealthy weight control behaviors. Additionally, positive body‐related comments from romantic partners were associated with higher motivation to gain weight/muscle and/or to maintain weight. Furthermore, positive body‐related comments from friends were associated with higher body satisfaction. Educational programs are needed to help female Chinese college students and members of their social networks recognize and understand the potential impact associated with giving body‐related comments. This study explores factors that predict students' self-assessment intentions and practices using a framework based on the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB). A total of 1425 Hong Kong students (Primary 4 to Secondary 3) participated in this study. Students' intentions and practices pertaining to self-assessment and the predictors of their intentions and practices were assessed with 11 self-report scales aligned to the TPB constructs. The psychometric properties of scales were examined with Rasch analysis and the relations among the variables were investigated with path analysis based on Rasch-calibrated person measures. The results showed that attitude, subjective norms, self-efficacy, and perceived controllability were statistically significant predictors on intention to self-assess, while self-efficacy and intention had significant influence on self-assessment practice. Psychological safety was also found to have relatively weak but significant impact on both self-assessment intention and practice. This study lays a foundation for future investigations on how to promote meaningful self-assessment behaviour which is crucial for self-regulated and life-long learning. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Despite the theoretical argument and empirical evidence regarding the impact of self- assessment on academic achievement and self-regulated learning (SRL), the mechanism for this impact is understudied. The present study aimed to investigate the characteristics of self-assessment practices at different SRL phases and its relationship with academic achievement. Using a course assignment as the learning task, sixty-three students enrolled in a one-year master programme in a teacher education institute responded to an instrument assessing their self-assessment practices (including four self-assessment actions) at the SRL Preparatory, Performance and Appraisal phases of the task. Their final scores of the assignment were also collected. The results showed that self-assessment is a fundamental skill for SRL and occurs at each SRL phase with different patterns. Autoregressive relationships were found for all self-assessment actions between different SRL phases. Self-reflection at Performance phase was found to influence feedback seeking at Appraisal phase. Self-directed feedback seeking through monitoring at Performance phase was the strongest and positive predictor of academic achievement; and achievement had negative impact on all self-assessment actions at Appraisal phase. This study investigates the relationship between students' attitudes towards formative assessment and summative assessment and aims to enrich the understanding of formative and summative assessment from the students' perspective. A total of 3,019 Hong Kong primary school students responded to a newly developed instrument. Overall, students reported positive instrumental yet negative affective attitudes towards formative and summative assessment. Girls had less negative affective attitudes towards formative assessment, but more positive instrumental attitudes towards formative and summative assessment than boys. Grade 4 students consistently scored higher than Grade 5 and Grade 6 students in assessment attitudes. The gender and grade differences were statistically significant, but had small effect size. Moreover, it was found that students' affective and instrumental attitudes to formative assessment positively predicted students' affective and instrumental attitudes to summative assessment. Bisphenol A (BPA) in wastewater has high risks of causing biological feminization. During the wastewater treatment process, large amounts of BPA are accumulated in activated sludge. However, the mechanisms of BPA interacted with activated sludge are still unclear. Especially, the roles of extracellular polymeric substances (EPS), which are major components of activated sludge, in the removal of BPA have never been concerned. In this study, the binding interactions between sludge EPS and BPA are explored combining fluorescence spectroscopy and dynamic light scattering. The thermodynamic mechanisms driving the binding behavior of BPA to EPS are illustrated by isothermal titration calorimetry. The results indicate that the binding interaction between BPA and EPS is spontaneous. BPA mainly binds with the proteins of EPS by hydrophobic association. The random-coiled structure of EPS transforms into relatively condensed cores after binding with BPA. A neutral pH, high ionic strength, and high temperature promote the binding process, facilitating to stabilize BPA in sludge EPS. This study provides new insights into the roles of sludge EPS in the migration and removal of BPA in activated sludge system.
