We study a decoupling limit of M-theory where the three-form gauge potential becomes critical. This limit leads to nonrelativistic M-theory coupled to a non-Lorentzian spacetime geometry. Nonrelativistic M-theory is U-dual to M-theory in the discrete light cone quantization, a non-perturbative approach related to the Matrix theory description of M-theory. We focus on the compactification of nonrelativistic M-theory over a two-torus that exhibits anisotropic behaviors due to the foliation structure of the spacetime geometry. We develop a frame covariant formalism of the toroidal geometry, which provides a geometrical interpretation of the recently discovered polynomial realization of SL(2 , ℤ) duality in nonrelativistic type IIB superstring theory. We will show that the nonrelativistic IIB string background fields transform as polynomials of an effective Galilean "boost velocity" on the two-torus. As an application, we construct an action principle describing a single M5-brane in nonrelativistic M-theory and study its compactification over the anisotropic two-torus. This procedure leads to a D3-brane action in nonrelativistic IIB string theory that makes the SL(2 , ℤ) invariance manifest in the polynomial realization. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The sigma model exhibits worldvolume anisotropy in space and time around the high-energy z = 2 Lifshitz point, such that the worldvolume is endowed with a foliation structure along a preferred time direction. In curved backgrounds, the target-space geometry is equipped with two distinct metrics, and the interacting sigma model is power-counting renormalizable. At low energies, the theory naturally flows toward the relativistic sigma model where Lorentz symmetry emerges. In the superspace formalism, we develop a heat kernel method that is covariantized with respect to the bimetric target-space geometry, using which we evaluate the one-loop beta-functions of the Lifshitz sigma model. We continue our study of the Kawai-Lewellen-Tye (KLT) factorization of winding string amplitudes in [1]. In a toroidal compactification, amplitudes for winding closed string states factorize into products of amplitudes for open strings ending on an array of D-branes localized in the compactified directions; the specific D-brane configuration is determined by the closed string data. In this paper, we study a zero Regge slope limit of the KLT relations between winding string amplitudes. Such a limit of string theory requires a critically tuned Kalb-Ramond field in a compact direction, and leads to a self-contained corner called nonrelativistic string theory. This theory is unitary, ultraviolet complete, and its string spectrum and spacetime S-matrix satisfy nonrelativistic symmetry. Moreover, the asymptotic closed string states in nonrelativistic string theory necessarily carry nonzero windings. First, starting with relativistic string theory, we construct a KLT factorization of amplitudes for winding closed strings in the presence of a critical Kalb-Ramond field. Then, in the zero Regge limit, we uncover a KLT relation for amplitudes in nonrelativistic string theory. Finally, we show how such a relation can be reproduced from first principles in a purely nonrelativistic string theory setting. Adverse drug reactions (ADRs) may be a serious public health problem and have received widespread attention in recent years. This study has analyzed the factors leading to the occurrence of serious ADRs (SADRs), determined the factors affecting the prognosis of patients with severe adverse reactions at different levels of medical institutions, and finally made corresponding recommendations for the monitoring, prevention, and treatment of SADRs. We used descriptive analysis and chi-square test to analyze the year, age, gender, proportion of SADRs, and the results of the ADRs in the report. Use the logistic regression to analyze the factors affecting the prognosis of SADRs in different levels of medical institutions. A total of 387 642 people's 394 037 ADRs were collected from the Henan Provincial Adverse Drug Reaction Monitoring Center from 2016 to 2020. Among them 35 742 cases of serious ADRs (9.1%), 96.1% were eventually relieved or cured, but 39 cases of SADRs caused death. The main causes of death included hemorrhages, organ failure, and allergies. Age, number of medication and illnesses, level of medical institution, history of adverse reactions, and type and method of medication were all factors that affected the severity of ADR. The prognosis of SADRs is worse than normal ADRs. The ADRs in autumn and winter and new adverse reactions are unique risk factors found in this study. The elderly and patients with multiple diseases or taking multiple drugs should pay attention to their adverse reactions. They should be closely observed within a week after taking the medicine. The supervision of patients with a history of allergies and new adverse reactions should be strengthened by primary medical institutions, and in nonprimary medical institutions should paid attention with past medical histories, and use imported drugs and biological agents with caution to ensure the safety and health of patients. We put forward a two-dimensional nonlinear sigma model that couples (bosonic) matter fields to topological Hořava gravity on a nonrelativistic worldsheet. In the target space, this sigma model describes classical strings propagating in a curved spacetime background, whose geometry is described by two distinct metric fields. We evaluate the renormalization group flows of this sigma model on a flat worldsheet and derive a set of beta-functionals for the bimetric fields. Imposing worldsheet Weyl invariance at the quantum level, we uncover a set of gravitational field equations that dictate the dynamics of the bimetric fields in the target space, where a unique massless spin-two excitation emerges. When the bimetric fields become identical, the sigma model gains an emergent Lorentz symmetry. In this single metric limit, the beta-functionals of the bimetric fields reduce to the Ricci flow equation that arises in bosonic string theory, and the bimetric gravitational field equations give rise to Einstein's gravity. Nonrelativistic string theory is a self-contained corner of string theory, with its string spectrum enjoying a Galilean-invariant dispersion relation. This theory is unitary and ultraviolet complete, and can be studied from first principles. In these notes, we focus on the bosonic closed string sector. In curved spacetime, nonrelativistic string theory is defined by a renormalizable quantum nonlinear sigma model in background fields, following certain symmetry principles that disallow any deformation towards relativistic string theory. We review previous proposals of such symmetry principles and propose a modified version that might be useful for supersymmetrizations. The appropriate target-space geometry determined by these local spacetime symmetries is string Newton-Cartan geometry. This geometry is equipped with a two-dimensional foliation structure that is restricted by torsional constraints. Breaking the symmetries that give rise to such torsional constraints in the target space will in general generate quantum corrections to a marginal deformation in the worldsheet quantum field theory. We uncover a Kawai-Lewellen-Tye (KLT)-type factorization of closed string amplitudes into open string amplitudes for closed string states carrying winding and momentum in toroidal compactifications. The winding and momentum closed string quantum numbers map respectively to the integer and fractional winding quantum numbers of open strings ending on a D-brane array localized in the compactified directions. The classical and quantum worldsheet theory describing nonrelativistic open string theory in an arbitrary nonrelativistic open and closed string background is constructed. We show that the low energy dynamics of open strings ending on n coincident D-branes in flat spacetime is described by a Galilean invariant U(n) Yang-Mills theory. We also study nonrelativistic open string excitations with winding number and demonstrate that their dynamics can be encoded into a local gauge theory in one higher dimension. By demanding conformal invariance of the boundary couplings, the nonlinear equations of motion that govern the consistent open string backgrounds coupled to an arbitrary closed background (described by a string Newton-Cartan geometry, Kalb-Ramond, and dilaton field) are derived and shown to emerge from a Galilean invariant Dirac-Born-Infeld type action. Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the effects of intermittent parathyroid hormone (iPTH) on the stability of orthodontic retention and to explore the possible regulatory role of insulin‐like growth factor‐1 (IGF‐1) in this process. Methods: Forty‐eight 6‐week‐old male Wistar rats were adopted in this study. An orthodontic relapsing model was established to investigate the effects of iPTH on orthodontic retention. In vitro, an immortalized mouse cementoblast cell line OCCM‐30 was detected by flow cytometry to study the effects of iPTH on cell proliferation and apoptosis. By application of a specific IGF‐1 receptor inhibitor, the role of IGF‐1 was also explored. Results: In vivo study found that daily injection of PTH significantly reduced the relapsing distance. Histological staining and ELISA assay showed faster periodontal regeneration during retention period in PTH group with increased RANKL/OPG ratio and greater amount of OCN, ALP, and IGF‐1 in gingival cervical fluid (GCF). Cell experiment revealed that iPTH promoted proliferation and suppressed apoptosis of cementoblast. IGF‐1 receptor inhibitor significantly restrained the anabolic effect of iPTH on OCCM‐30 cells. Conclusions: These findings suggest that iPTH could improve the stability of tooth movement by promoting periodontal regeneration. IGF‐1 is essential in mediating the anabolic effects of iPTH. Nonrelativistic open string theory is defined by a worldsheet theory that produces a Galilean invariant string spectrum and is described at low energies by a nonrelativistic Yang-Mills theory [1]. We study T-duality transformations in the path integral for the sigma model that describes nonrelativistic open string theory coupled to an arbitrary closed string background, described by a string Newton-Cartan geometry, Kalb-Ramond, and dilaton field. We prove that T-duality transformations map nonrelativistic open string theory to relativistic and noncommutative open string theory in the discrete light cone quantization (DLCQ), a quantization scheme relevant for Matrix string theory. We also show how the worldvolume dynamics of nonrelativistic open string theory described by the Dirac-Born-Infeld type action found in [1] maps to the Dirac-Born-Infeld actions describing the worldvolume theories of the DLCQ of open string theory and noncommutative open string theory. Experimental and theoretical calculations have shown that the coexistence of vacancies and heterojunctions exhibits better photocatalytic activity and stability compared to separate one. However, there has been no review to systematically unveil the synergistic mechanism of vacancies and heterojunctions. In this paper, the types, synthesis methods and characterization strategies of heterojunctions and vacancies are discussed respectively. A multiobjective water resource allocation model (GWAS) was constructed to incorporate the objectives of socioeconomic water use, power generation, and river ecological flow. The new model can simulate both rule-based operating schemes and optimized operating schemes for reservoirs with two kinds of solving algorithms and was applied to the Fuhe River basin. Fifteen socioeconomic water use units, 23 ecological flow control sections in the river channel, and 22 reservoirs were considered in the case study. The advantages and disadvantages of each rule-based operating scheme and the global optimization were compared under four computational schemes with the GWAS model. The competitive relationship among socioeconomic water use, power generation, and ecological water use under empirical rules, and the global optimal operation, were revealed. The GWAS model is an improvement of the traditional water resource allocation model and enables managers to compare empirical rule-based schemes and form a better, globally-optimized scheme. This study focuses on the water use characteristics and impact factors in the Yellow River basin. Water use increased from 1980 to 2000 and then stabilized. Water use in the eight regions of the basin varies significantly in both time and space. Water use in different sectors is sensitive to variations in the irrigation area, industrial added value, efficiency, population and urbanization. Change trends are the results of the joint effects of supply-and-demand relationship and water policy. We continue the study of nonrelativistic string theory in background fields. Nonrelativistic string theory is described by a nonlinear sigma model that maps a relativistic worldsheet to a non-Lorentzian and non-Riemannian target space geometry, which is known to be string Newton-Cartan geometry. We develop the covariant background field method in this non-Riemannian geometry. We apply this background field method to compute the beta-functions of the nonlinear sigma model that describes nonrelativistic string theory on a string Newton-Cartan geometry background, in presence of a Kalb-Ramond two-form and dilaton field. Photocatalysis offers an energy-efficient and environment-friendly route to alleviate energy crisis and environmental pollution. Sunlight-driven photocatalytic H 2 production with synergistic degradation of pollutants can not only realize the conversion of solar energy to hydrogen energy, but also contribute to water remediation and preparation of organic by-products. In this paper, we adopt a binary analysis perspective to introduce the effects of photocatalyst types, composites, microstructure, pollutants properties, co-existing substances and different synergistic target on dual-functional photocatalytic activity. In addition, the influence mechanisms behind each factor, current challenges and future development directions are also comprehensively discussed. We found that the synergistic water remediation and H 2 production system requires a balance between the two individual reactions, which requires not only a bi-directional adaptation of catalyst and pollutant, but also a comprehensive consideration of the reaction environment, i.e., achieving the trinity of pollutants/photocatalysts/co-existing media. Specifically, developing more efficient components and more suitable loading methods, constructing more optimized and innovative catalyst structures and clarifying the degradation mechanism of pollutants are crucial for efficient photocatalytic synergistic systems. Abstract With rapid urbanization, there will be more conflict between human systems and the river ecological system, and therefore, ecological operations, practices and research must involve the ecological water replenishment of entire river basins with new modeling tools. In this study, based on a water resource allocation and simulation model (WAS), we establish an ecological flow-oriented water resource allocation and simulation framework (E-WAS) by comprehensively considering both ecological flow constraints and ecological flow targets. To control multiple types of water sources and dynamically allocate water resources to replenish ecological water in the river, virtual reservoirs and ecological units are added to the model network. With new water balance equations for virtual reservoirs and ecological units, the E-WAS can simulate the ecological replenishment process in a river basin and can provide a recommended water replenishment scheme that considers optimization principles. The E-WAS was applied in the Pingshan River Basin, Shenzhen, China. Fourteen ecological units and 38 water supply nodes are considered in the model. A water replenishment scheme that used water from 6 reservoirs and reclaimed water from 5 water sewage plants was selected. This scheme significantly increased the satisfactory degree of ecological water demand and efficiently supported the formulation of a control scheme for the water environment of a basin. The E-WAS framework is similar to model plug-ins but helps to avoid the large workload that is required for model redevelopment and can expand the functions of core models relatively quickly. Drought evolution is a complex dynamic process, showing continuous characteristics in space-time. Currently, the researches on drought dynamics from multiple dimensions are limited and should be improved further. Therefore, a three-dimensional identification method was adopted to investigate the spatiotemporal patterns of classified drought events (namely two-month drought events, within-year drought events, and cross-year drought events) in northwest China during1961–2018. Furthermore, more spatial variables of drought event, such as start and end location, drought orientation and rotation, were extracted to describe the dynamic migration trajectories of drought events. Significantly, drought rotation helped to reveal the forcing mechanisms (such as the influence of climate and land surface) behind their spatial development. The results showed that a total of 169 drought events were identified over 1961–2018, and drought variables (duration, area, severity, and migration distance) represented fluctuating decreasing trend with the rate of − 0.135/10a, − 0.006/10a, − 0.16/10a, and − 5.67/10a. The dynamic migration process of individual drought event was objectively and effectively depicted from a three-dimensional perspective, which was consistent with the historical drought records in study area. Regarding the classified events, drought magnitude was more severe in 1961–1980 than that in 1981–2018, and three primary migration patterns (east-to-east, west-to-west, and south-to-south) were identified in northwest China. Within-year drought events mostly started in the first three quarters and finished in the second half year, whilst the situation was reversed for the cross-year drought events. Spatially, Alxa League of Inner Mongolia and northwest Qinghai Province were two main drought centers. Additionally, drought events characterized by clockwise rotation migration were mostly distributed in the plateau and southeast climate zones, and that was anticlockwise rotation in the westerly climate zone. Background. This study aimed to explore whether or not mothers with higher educational and wealth status report lower rate of child mortality compared to those with less advantageous socioeconomic situation. Methods. Data used were cross-sectional and collected from Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey in Kazakhstan conducted in 2015. Subjects experiencing childbirth were 9278 women aging between 15 and 49 years. The associations between maternal education and household wealth status with child mortality were examined by multivariate analytical methods. Results. The overall prevalence of child mortality was 6.7%, with noticeable variations across the different regions. Compared with women who had the highest educational status, those with upper and lower secondary were 1.47 and 1.89 times more likely to experience child death. Women in the lowest and second lowest wealth quintile had 2.74 and 2.68 times higher odds of experiencing child death compared with those in the richest wealth status households. Conclusions. Policy makers pay special attention to improving socioeconomic status of the mothers in an effort to reduce child mortality in the country. What is the best resolution of annual water balance maps for a correct balance between the basic spatial signal in the observations of precipitation, actual evapotranspiration and runoff across a larger drainage basin and the error in estimates for grid cells in the map to avoid giving a false impression of accuracy? To answer this question an approach based a signal to noise ratio is proposed, which allows finding the optimal resolution maximizing the signal in the map. The approach is demonstrated on gauge data in the Huai River Basin, China. Stochastic interpolation methods were applied to create grid maps of long-term mean values, as well as for estimating variances of the three water balance components in a range of scales from 5 × 5 km to 200 × 200 km 2 grid cells. Interpolation algorithms using covariances of long-term means of data with different spatial support were developed. The identified optimal resolutions by the signal to noise ratio appeared to be very different – 10 × 10, 50 × 50, and 30 × 30 km 2 for precipitation, actual evapotranspiration, and runoff, respectively. These values are directly linked to the observation network densities. The magnitude of the signal to noise ratio shows similar strong differences with values 34, 3.7, and 5.4, respectively. It gives a direct indication of the reliability of the map, which can be considered as satisfactory only for precipitation for the data available for the present study. Plants are a rich source for bioactive compounds. However, plant extracts can harbor a mixture of bioactive molecules that promote divergent phenotypes and potentially have confounding effects in bioassays. Even with further purification and identification, target deconvolution can be challenging. Corynoline and acetylcorynoline, are phytochemicals that were previously isolated through a screen for compounds able to induce mitotic arrest and polyploidy in oncogene expressing retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cells. Here, we shed light on the mechanism by which these phytochemicals can attack human cancer cells. Mitotic arrest was coincident to the induction of centrosome amplification and declustering, causing multi-polar spindle formation. Corynoline was demonstrated to have true centrosome declustering activity in a model where A549 cells were chemically induced to have more than a regular complement of centrosomes. Corynoline could inhibit the centrosome clustering required for pseudo-bipolar spindle formation in these cells. The activity of AURKB, but not AURKA or polo-like kinase 4, was diminished by corynoline. It only partially inhibited AURKB, so it may be a partial antagonist or corynoline may work upstream on an unknown regulator of AURKB activity or localization. Nonetheless, corynoline and acetylcorynoline inhibited the viability of a variety of human cancer derived cell lines. These phytochemicals could serve as prototypes for a next-generation analog with improved potency, selectivity or in vivo bioavailability. Such an analog could be useful as a non-toxic component of combination therapies where inhibiting the chromosomal passenger protein complex is desired. Summary: A technique is presented for a joint interpolation of water balance components that considers estimated or observed values with their a priori uncertainty and yields balanced interpolated values, which respect the water conservation at all levels within the hydrographical network. The approach allows building a consistent water balance pattern, where both the observed values and water balance constraints are given full recognition. The framework presented has strong similarities with assimilation, as it is understood in meteorology (i.e. tuning a model to observed data). It proved in this study to be an excellent diagnostic tool for data in an exploratory phase when investigating patterns of variability. Patterns of spatial variation of precipitation, runoff and actual evapotranspiration have been studied at an annual time scale with data from the drainage basin upstream Bengbu in Huaihe River, China. Stochastic interpolation using data from the meteorological and hydrological networks were used to produce a set of prior digital maps of precipitation, actual evapotranspiration and runoff. In a second step an algorithm for balancing errors was applied to produce a set of posterior maps that satisfied the water balance. The network of runoff stations was sparse giving rise to high uncertainties in the interpolated runoff map with an average relative interpolation error of 15%. The precipitation map was more accurate (average interpolation error 10%), having a more dense observations network. The correction algorithm with the support in the more accurate precipitation map was able to compensate for the gaps in the runoff gauging net and smoothed out inconsistencies in the observed runoff values. Background: Adult child are used to taking the responsibility of taking care of their older parents in Chinese culture. However, the migration of adult child is not uncommon now in the context of urbanization in China. The purpose of this study is to explore the impact of child's migration on health status and health care utilization of older parents with chronic diseases left behind.Methods: The data of the 2015 nationally representative longitudinal survey of the aged population in China were used in this study. Binary logistic regression was used to evaluate the impact of adult child's migration on health status and health care utilization of older parents with chronic diseases left behind.Results: About a quarter of the respondents (25.5%) had at least one migrant child. Most of the respondents (86.6%) rated their health as poor, and 42.0% of them suffered from physical limitations. Nearly half of the respondents (45.0%) had depressive symptoms, but the vast majority (88.2%) were generally satisfied with their lives. Only a quarter of the respondents received outpatient treatment in the past month while only one fifth of them received inpatient visits in the past year. After controlling for other demographic and socioeconomic variables, it was found in this study that those who with migrant child were more likely to report poor self-rated health (OR = 1.26; 95% CI 1.01-1.58), not satisfied with general life (OR = 1.28; 95% CI 1.03-1.59) and seek outpatient visits (OR = 1.22; 95% CI 1.03-1.43) than those who without migrant child.Conclusion: Our study found that there is a negative association between migration of adult child and physical health, mental health and health care utilization of older parents with chronic diseases left behind, which means a comprehensive effect on their health status. We develop a new heat kernel method that is suited for a systematic study of the renormalization group flow in Hořava gravity (and in Lifshitz field theories in general). This method maintains covariance at all stages of the calculation, which is achieved by introducing a generalized Fourier transform covariant with respect to the nonrelativistic background spacetime. As a first test, we apply this method to compute the anisotropic Weyl anomaly for a (2 + 1)-dimensional scalar field theory around a z = 2 Lifshitz point and corroborate the previously found result. We then proceed to general scalar operators and evaluate their one-loop effective action. We derive the action and symmetries of the bosonic sector of non-Lorentzian IIB supergravity by taking the non-relativistic string limit. We find that the bosonic field content is extended by a Lagrange multiplier that implements a restriction on the Ramond-Ramond fluxes. We show that the SL(2, ℝ) transformation rules of non-Lorentzian IIB supergravity form a novel, nonlinear polynomial realization. Using classical invariant theory of polynomial equations and binary forms, we will develop a general formalism describing the polynomial realization of SL(2, ℝ) and apply it to the special case of non-Lorentzian IIB supergravity. Using the same formalism, we classify all the relevant SL(2, ℝ) invariants. Invoking other bosonic symmetries, such as the local boost and dilatation symmetry, we show how the bosonic part of the non-Lorentzian IIB supergravity action is formed uniquely from these SL(2, ℝ) invariants. This work also points towards the concept of a non-Lorentzian bootstrap, where bosonic symmetries in non-Lorentzian supergravity are used to bootstrap the bosonic dynamics in Lorentzian supergravity, without considering the fermions. Pinctada fucata, the pearl oyster, is a bivalve primarily cultivated for the production of saltwater pearls. In this study, the genome-wide association study (GWAS) for the growth-related traits and a principal components analysis (PCA) in P. fucata were performed. Genomic parameters of 6 growth-related traits in 60 individuals were estimated by using 4,937,162 single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). A total of 45 SNPs associated with growth traits were thus identified. Furthermore, 165 candidate genes were identified, including collagen alpha-3 (VI), serine/threonine-protein kinase mos-like harboring significant markers, and histidine-rich protein PFHRP-III-like, which may influence growth-related traits associated with various biological processes. The results of this study can facilitate marker-assisted selection and breeding programs designed to enhance growth and also offer a theoretical foundation for the further development and utilization of genomic resources in P. fucata. We investigate how SL(2,ℤ) duality is realized in nonrelativistic type IIB superstring theory, which is a self-contained corner of relativistic string theory. Within this corner, we realize manifestly SL(2,ℤ)-invariant (p, q)-string actions. The construction of these actions imposes a branching between strings of opposite charges associated with the two-form fields. The branch point is determined by these charges and the axion background field. Both branches must be incorporated in order to realize the full SL(2,ℤ) group. Skyline query has been widely applied in multi-criterion decision making, whose potential privacy risk is practically concerned on some specific occasions. Differential Privacy (DP) is a rigorous privacy-preserving method for its robustness and reliability. Considering DP will deteriorate the data utility, this paper proposes the Individual Differential Privacy via Spectral Clustering (iDP-SC) to address the privacy leakage in skyline query. It shifts the calculation of the local sensitivity from the original dataset to the one processed by spectral clustering, and through this, the sensitivity is reduced as well as the calibrated noise. As a result, it maintain higher utility without sacrificing the privacy preservation provided by differential privacy. Furthermore, compared with existing work for privacy-preserving skyline query, the proposed iDP-SC avoids the disclosure of key information, while providing the quantitative analysis of privacy protection level. The performance of the proposed iDP-SC was examined through comparison with the DP and Individual Differential Privacy (iDP) on both real and synthetic datasets. The experimental results demonstrates the capability and effectiveness of the proposed approach. Dental implants are reliable fixtures for dental replacement in edentulous and partially edentulous patients. In this study, we designed and fabricated titanium implants with the same shape but with different porosities, and performed a detailed analysis of the effect of the porous structure on host biological response. The results indicate that the difference of elastic modulus between implant and bone tissue may cause bone injury and implant failure. The implants whose elastic modulus matches that of the cortical bone of the patient, exhibit better postoperative loading and bone integration characteristics. Implant therapy is a well-established clinical treatment, and porous implants are reported to be advantageous, which needs to be confirmed in vivo. In this study, we designed and fabricated titanium implants with the same shape but with different porosities (20 %, 30 %, 40 %, and 50 %, respectively), which produce different elastic moduli based on the results of finite element analysis (FEA). These devices were implanted into the mandibular alveolar bone of miniature swine, and their survival rates, osseointegration, and marginal bone loss were evaluated one, three, and six months after implantation. It was demonstrated that the 30 % porosity implants, which had an elastic modulus similar to that of the cortical bone, exhibited the best survival rate (50 %) and the lowest bone resorption height (1.51 ± 0.33 mm), with almost no inflammation and attachment loss. In vitro analyses indicated that the appropriate pore size is conducive to the extension and cellular communication of cells, which promotes the host cell homing and differentiation functions. Thus, the elastic modulus of the dental implants determines their success rate. We study the quantum properties of a Galilean-invariant abelian gauge theory coupled to a Schrödinger scalar in 2+1 dimensions. At the classical level, the theory with minimal coupling is obtained from a null-reduction of relativistic Maxwell theory coupled to a complex scalar field in 3+1 dimensions and is closely related to the Galilean electromagnetism of Le-Bellac and Lévy-Leblond. Due to the presence of a dimensionless, gauge-invariant scalar field in the Galilean multiplet of the gauge-field, we find that at the quantum level an infinite number of couplings is generated. We explain how to handle the quantum corrections systematically using the background field method. Due to a non-renormalization theorem, the beta function of the gauge coupling is found to vanish to all orders in perturbation theory, leading to a continuous family of fixed points where the non-relativistic conformal symmetry is preserved. The impacts of human activities on the natural water cycle have become increasingly severe due to population growth and economic development. Therefore, it is important to evaluate the contributions of different human activities (e.g., land-use change, industrial water use, and domestic water use) on different hydrological variables. However, existing attribution methods have shortcomings when attributing the impacts of different human activities; for instance, human activities may only be considered as one impact factor, and the total impact of all factors may not be guaranteed to equal 100% of the total change. A new approach, using multiple scenario simulations from a distributed model, was developed in this study to overcome these shortcomings. All potential contributions for one impact factor were calculated by fixing the other impact factors at different statuses, and the arithmetic mean of all potential contributions was presented as the final result. This method ensures that the sum of the contributions of all impact factors equals the total change in hydrological variables between two periods, which was demonstrated mathematically. A case study of the Wei River Basin was used to evaluate the proposed methodology, which attributed four impact factors (climate change, land-use change, industrial and domestic water use, and agricultural irrigation water use) to three hydrological variables (evapotranspiration, rainfall infiltration, and streamflow drainage into the Yellow River). The results showed that the new method could attribute the impacts of the four factors to the changes of the three annual average hydrological variables between the period 1956–1980 and the period 1981–2005; these four factors accounted for 373.3%, −33.3%, −133.3%, and −106.7% of the change in evapotranspiration, 129.8%, −2.2%, −3.5%, and −24.1% of the change in rainfall infiltration, and 75.2%, 4.4%, 13.4%, and 7.0% of the change in streamflow drainage into the Yellow River, respectively. Moreover, the sum of the relative contributions of the four impact factors to the three hydrological variables was equal to 100% at an annual time scale. To avoid the limitations of existing methods, we recommend adopting the newly proposed method for evaluating the impacts of climate change and multiple human activities on water cycle processes. Nonrelativistic string theory is a unitary, ultraviolet finite quantum gravity theory with a nonrelativistic string spectrum. The vertex operators of the worldsheet theory determine the spacetime geometry of nonrelativistic string theory, known as the string Newton-Cartan geometry. We compute the Weyl anomaly of the nonrelativistic string worldsheet sigma model describing strings propagating in a string Newton-Cartan geometry, Kalb-Ramond and dilaton background. We derive the equations of motion that dictate the backgrounds on which nonrelativistic string theory can be consistently defined quantum mechanically. The equations of motion we find from our study of the conformal anomaly of the worldsheet theory are to nonrelativistic string theory what the (super)gravity equations of motion are to relativistic string theory. Nonrelativistic string theory in flat spacetime is described by a two-dimensional quantum field theory with a nonrelativistic global symmetry acting on the worldsheet fields. Nonrelativistic string theory is unitary, ultraviolet complete and has a string spectrum and spacetime S-matrix enjoying nonrelativistic symmetry. The worldsheet theory of nonrelativistic string theory is coupled to a curved spacetime background and to a Kalb-Ramond two-form and dilaton field. The appropriate spacetime geometry for nonrelativistic string theory is dubbed string Newton-Cartan geometry, which is distinct from Riemannian geometry. This defines the sigma model of nonrelativistic string theory describing strings propagating and interacting in curved background fields. We also implement T-duality transformations in the path integral of this sigma model and uncover the spacetime interpretation of T-duality. We show that T-duality along the longitudinal direction of the string Newton-Cartan geometry describes relativistic string theory on a Lorentzian geometry with a compact lightlike isometry, which is otherwise only defined by a subtle infinite boost limit. This relation provides a first principles definition of string theory in the discrete light cone quantization (DLCQ) in an arbitrary background, a quantization that appears in nonperturbative approaches to quantum field theory and string/M-theory, such as in Matrix theory. An analysis of the variation characteristics and evolutionary trends in the runoff of five rivers in the Poyang Lake Basin was conducted using the MK trend test, Morlet wavelet transforms, correlation analyses, and other methods. For 1956–2011, the inflow runoff displays small, statistically insignificant trends. However, for 2000–2011, significant downward trends are present. River runoff in the basin is significantly correlated with precipitation, while water intake and use is less influential; the most significant impact on river runoff is climate variability. To analyse the effects of water conservancy project scheduling and operation, we also compare the inflow and outflow runoff processes of typical large reservoirs before and after peak reservoir construction. The scheduling and operation of large reservoirs in the five rivers is known to play a supplementary role in dry season inflow runoff. The recent reduction in inflow runoff was mainly caused by basin precipitation; reasonable scheduling of water conservancy projects in the five rivers plays a positive role in safeguarding the water required by the dry season ecosystem in Poyang Lake. We continue our study of naturalness in nonrelativistic QFTs of the Lifshitz type, focusing on scalar fields that can play the role of Nambu-Goldstone (NG) modes associated with spontaneous symmetry breaking. Such systems allow for an extension of the constant shift symmetry to a shift by a polynomial of degree P in spatial coordinates. These 'polynomial shift symmetries' in turn protect the technical naturalness of modes with a higher-order dispersion relation, and lead to a refinement of the proposed classification of infrared Gaussian fixed points available to describe NG modes in nonrelativistic theories. Generic interactions in such theories break the polynomial shift symmetry explicitly to the constant shift. It is thus natural to ask: Given a Gaussian fixed point with polynomial shift symmetry of degree P, what are the lowest-dimension operators that preserve this symmetry, and deform the theory into a self-interacting scalar field theory with the shift symmetry of degree P? To answer this (essentially cohomological) question, we develop a new graph-theoretical technique, and use it to prove several classification theorems. First, in the special case of P = 1 (essentially equivalent to Galileons), we reproduce the known Galileon N-point invariants, and find their novel interpretation in terms of graph theory, as an equal-weight sum over all labeled trees with N vertices. Then we extend the classification to P > 1 and find a whole host of new invariants, including those that represent the most relevant (or least irrelevant) deformations of the corresponding Gaussian fixed points, and we study their uniqueness. Summary The assessment of flow regime alterations is fundamental in understanding the potential impact of reservoirs and other water infrastructures on aquatic ecosystems and biota. Previously used methods to classify flow regimes have not captured temporal changes between unregulated and regulated flow regimes at individual stations. In this study, a combination of hierarchical classification and trend analysis was used to assess spatial and temporal flow regime alterations in the Huai River Basin, China. Two categories of flow regime indices were selected to characterize the impacts of reservoir and sluice regulation, including the basic flow indices for mean variation, and the cumulative variation indices for long-term alteration. The overall impact of reservoirs and sluices on flow regime included the decrease of high flow magnitudes but the increase of low flow magnitudes through time. Moreover, on average, the flow variability, and the high and low flow frequencies were reduced, while their durations were increased. Reservoirs had a greater impact on flow regimes than sluices. The flow regimes at 18 of 30 stations were altered significantly from a pre-regulation condition and were divided into three main types of alteration corresponding to operational rules of reservoirs and sluices. From a management perspective, water projects in China should address the environmental flow requirements of the rivers, particularly in terms of the hydrologic indices affected mostly by reservoirs and sluices.
