To study the effects of radio frequency-assisted hot air drying (RFHAD) on the quality of South American white shrimp (Penaeus vannamei), the RFHAD process based on the dielectric properties of the shrimp was optimized. The effects of radio frequency drying (RFD) and RFHAD on the flavor nucleotide contents and equivalent umami levels in dried shrimp were compared with those of hot-air drying (HAD). The results showed that as the temperature and moisture content increased, the dielectric constant and loss factor of the shrimp also increased, facilitating moisture migration and enhancing the drying rate. Abstract Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a condition commonly observed in aging males. Inflammatory and metabolic factors are pivotal in the development and progression of BPH. The degree to which the effects of 91 inflammation-related proteins on BPH are mediated by 1400 plasma metabolites remains ambiguous. Our research analyzed the impact of these traits utilizing genetic evidence.Two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) and multivariable MR (MVMR) were utilized in our study to infer the genetic causal effect of inflammation-related proteins on BPH, with metabolites serving as mediators. Increased levels of IL-2 were linked to a heightened incidence of BPH (β = 0.071, OR:1.074, 95% CI [1.002–1.152], p = 0.045), whereas lower concentrations of N6,N6-dimethyllysine were associated with decreased risk (β1=-0.127, p = 0.02; β2=-0.039, p = 0.008). The mediation effect was 0.005 (95% CI [0.0004, 0.012], OR: 1.005, 95% CI [1.000, 1.012]), accounting for 7.04% of the total effect. subsequently, we examined the phenotypic co-localization of the two pairings independently, revealing that the posterior probability of rs145516501 associated with IL-2 and BPH was 80.7%, whereas the posterior likelihood of rs4917820 linked to N6,N6-dimethyllysine levels and BPH was 95.9%. The research indicated that N6,N6-dimethyllysine levels seem to influence the causative relationship between IL-2 and BPH. These results elucidate the complex interplay between inflammation-related proteins and metabolism in the context of BPH, offering novel diagnostic and therapeutic avenues and enhancing our comprehension of the disease’s etiology for prospective research.

To investigate the effect of autoclaving treatment modifications on the multi-scale structure and physicochemical properties of yellow rice starch, a comparative analysis of the multi-scale structure (morphology structure, crystal structure, and molecular chain structure) and gelatinization characteristics were conducted on the pre- and post-modified starch using high-performance anion exchange chromatography, X-ray diffraction, infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, and rapid viscosity analyzer. The results showed that autoclaving treatment modifications did not significantly alter the total starch content of yellow rice starch. However, the content of amylose increased from 7.46% to 8.28%. Abstract Background As populations live longer, there is a progressive increase in chronic degenerative diseases, particularly those related to the musculoskeletal system. Sarcopenia is characterized by loss of skeletal muscle mass, muscle strength, and loss of physical function. It is a common disease in older adults associated with various adverse health outcomes. There is a lack of bioindicators to screen for sarcopenia. Albumin and lymphocyte counts are commonly used to assess the degree of malnutrition, and blood routine, lipids, and thyroid function are relatively easy to obtain as part of a routine physical examination. Therefore, finding blood markers that can screen for sarcopenia is essential. Our primary aim was to explore whether the bioindicators of body composition, lymphocytes, albumin, lipids, and thyroid hormones are associated with sarcopenia, and a secondary aim was to investigate changes in these indicators after an intensive lifestyle intervention preliminarily. Methods 60 subjects were selected from Runda and Bailian community health centers in Suzhou, China. They underwent body composition analysis and tested lymphocyte, albumin, lipid, and thyroid hormone levels. The 30 sarcopenia subjects underwent a 3-month intensive lifestyle intervention program. At the end of the intervention, we rechecked the bioindicators. Statistical analyses were performed in IBM SPSS v26.0. Abstract Background Macular hole (MH) is a rare complication of retinitis pigmentosa (RP) and has an adverse impact on residual visual function. At present, the underlying mechanisms are not fully understood and surgical experience is limited. Methods We reviewed the medical records and optical coherence tomography (OCT) scans in a cohort of eight eyes of seven RP patients with MH in order to report their OCT features and vitreoretinal surgical prognosis. Results This study includes four lamellar macular holes (LMHs) and four full-thickness macular holes (FTMHs). Pre-operative OCT revealed other macular abnormalities in all eyes, such as epiretinal membrane (ERM), cystoid macular edema (CME), lamellar hole-associated epiretinal proliferation (LHEP) and vitreoretinal traction. MH progression and subjective vision worsening were noted in one LMH eye during a seven-month follow-up. All holes closed after vitrectomy with internal limiting membrane (ILM) peeling. At final follow-up, one eye had improved vision and seven eyes remained stable compared to baseline. Conclusions The occurrence of MH in RP is accompanied by various imaging characteristics, such as ERM, CME and LHEP, suggesting a multifactorial pathogenesis. Considering poor vision in most RP patients with potentially progressive MH, surgery appears to be effective in maintaining or improving the central vision in a period of time. Thus, vitrectomy should be performed as soon as possible and flap-assisted techniques or episcleral surgeries are needed for some special cases.

Abstract Yaks live in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau for a long time where oxygen is scarce, but can ensure the smooth development of testis and spermatogenesis. The key lies in the functional regulation of the Sertoli cells under hypoxia. In this study, we sequenced yak Sertoli cells cultured in normal oxygen concentration (Normoxia) and treated with low oxygen concentration (Hypoxia) by whole transcriptomics, and screened out 194 differentially expressed mRNAs (DEmRNAs), 934 differentially expressed LncRNAs (DELncRNAs) and 129 differentially expressed miRNAs (DEmiRNAs). GO and KEGG analysis showed that these differential genes were mainly concentrated in PI3K-AKT, MAPK, RAS, and other signaling pathways, and were associated with glucose metabolism, tight junction, steroid hormone synthesis, cell fusion, and immunity of yak Sertoli cells. We constructed the gene interaction network of yak Sertoli cells in hypoxia and screened out the relationship pairs related to glucose metabolism and tight junction. The results suggested that the changes in energy metabolism, tight junction, and immune regulation of yak Sertoli cells under hypoxia might provide favorable conditions for spermatogenesis. This study provides data for further study on the role of non-coding RNA in testis development and spermatogenesis of yak.

Abstract Tandem repeats (TRs) are genomic regions that tandemly change in repeat number, which are often multiallelic. Their characteristics and contributions to gene expression and quantitative traits in rice are largely unknown. Here, we survey rice TR variations based on 231 genome assemblies and the rice pan-genome graph. We identify 227,391 multiallelic TR loci, including 54,416 TR variations that are absent from the Nipponbare reference genome. Only 1/3 TR variations show strong linkage with nearby bi-allelic variants (SNPs, Indels and PAVs). Using 193 panicle and 202 leaf transcriptomic data, we reveal 485 and 511 TRs act as QTLs independently of other bi-allelic variations to nearby gene expression, respectively. Using plant height and grain width as examples, we identify and validate TRs contributions to rice agronomic trait variations. These findings would enhance our understanding of the functions of multiallelic variants and facilitate rice molecular breeding.

This study evaluated the juice processing characteristics of seven typical blueberry fruit cultivars: Windsor, Susieblue, Lanmei 1, Sharpblue, Sweetheart, Titan, and Gardenblue from three major strains (Southern highbush, Northern highbush and rabbiteye). The juice yield, color, physicochemical properties, functional component contents and antioxidant capacities were analyzed. In addition, correlation, factor, and cluster analyses were used to evaluate comprehensively the suitability of each cultivar for juice processing. The results indicated significant differences in the juice processing characteristics of the blueberry cultivars (PTitan>Lanmei 1>Windsor>Sharpblue>Susieblue>Sweetheart. Among the seven blueberry cultivars, the most suitable for juice processing was Gardenblue, followed by Titan. This study provides a theoretical reference for selecting blueberry cultivars for juice processing.

Abstract Objective It is well known that glucose and lipid metabolism disorders and insulin resistance are common in sepsis, which affect the occurrence and prognosis of multiple organ dysfunction in septic patients. Previous study reported the predictive value of triglyceride-glucose index (TyG), a clinical indicator for insulin resistance, in postoperative delirium patients. However, it remains unclear whether the TyG index is a novel predictive biomarker for sepsis-associated delirium. The aim of this study is to explore the relationship between TyG index and the risk of delirium in patients with sepsis. Methods Adult septic patients were identified from the MIMIC-IV database and divided into four groups based on the mean value of TyG. The primary outcome was the incidence of delirium. The association between TyG and the risk of developing delirium was evaluated by restricted cubic spline (RCS), multivariate logistic regression and subgroup analysis. Propensity Score Matching (PSM) method was used to balance the baseline data. Results A total of 3,331 septic patients were included in the analysis, and further divided into four groups: Q1 (TyG ≤ 8.67), Q2 (8.67 9.61). The RCS curves demonstrated a non-linear positive relationship between TyG index and the risk of developing delirium, and an optimal cut-of value 9.09 was recommended. After balancing the baseline information by PSM, patients in the TyG > 9.09 group had a significant higher incidence of delirium compared with those in the TyG ≤ 9.09 group. In logistic regression analysis, TyG > 9.09 was significantly associated with lower risk of developing delirium in both original cohort (OR 1.54–1.78, all P 0.05). In subgroup analysis, our findings were consistent (all OR > 1 in all subgroups). Conclusion Our study demonstrated an independent association between TyG index and increased risk of delirium in septic patients, indicating that TyG index can serve as a biomarker for delirium in sepsis.

Abstract The mechanism regulating cellular senescence of postmitotic muscle cells is still unknown. cGAS-STING innate immune signaling was found to mediate cellular senescence in various types of cells, including postmitotic neuron cells, which however has not been explored in postmitotic muscle cells. Here by studying the myofibers from Zmpste24−/− progeria aged mice [an established mice model for Hutchinson-Gilford progeria syndrome (HGPS)], we observed senescence-associated phenotypes in Zmpste24−/− myofibers, which is coupled with increased oxidative damage to mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) and secretion of senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP) factors. Also, Zmpste24−/− myofibers feature increased release of mtDNA from damaged mitochondria, mitophagy dysfunction, and activation of cGAS-STING. Meanwhile, increased mtDNA release in Zmpste24−/− myofibers appeared to be related with increased VDAC1 oligomerization. Further, the inhibition of VDAC1 oligomerization in Zmpste24−/− myofibers with VBIT4 reduced mtDNA release, cGAS-STING activation, and the expression of SASP factors. Our results reveal a novel mechanism of innate immune activation-associated cellular senescence in postmitotic muscle cells in aged muscle, which may help identify novel sets of diagnostic markers and therapeutic targets for progeria aging and aging-associated muscle diseases.

In order to improve the drying quality of rice, Indica and japonica hybrid rice were taken as the object and evaluated by waist burst rate, head rice rate, energy consumption and drying time in this experiment. Single factor and response surface analysis were combined to optimize the drying process. The effects of variable temperature-tempering drying on proteins structure and thermal properties of indica and japonica hybrid rice were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry. Fourier infrared spectroscopy and fluorescence spectroscopy. The results showed variable temperature-tempering drying (temperature range 30~60 ℃) that under the conditions of temperature rise 5 ℃, wind speed 1 m/s and tempering ratio 0.6, the rice could be kept in the glassy state, and the waistband burst rate and head rice rate after drying were 79.89% lower and 39.54% higher than those in the constant temperature group (60 ℃), respectively. Under these conditions, the polarity of rice proteins decreased and intermolecular aggregation occured, which improved the thermal stability of rice proteins, and the α-helix content increased from 16.21% to 17.64%. Scanning electron microscope results showed that the surface structure of protein was not significantly affected by variable temperature-tempering drying. The experiment explored and verified the drying mechanism of hybrid rice with variable temperature-tempering drying, which would provide a theoretical and practical reference for the research of high quality drying of hybrid rice.

Abstract Background Foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) is a devastating disease affecting cloven-hoofed animals, that leads to significant economic losses in affected countries and regions. Currently, there is an evident inclination towards the utilization of nanoparticles as powerful platforms for innovative vaccine development. Therefore, this study developed a ferritin-based nanoparticle (FNP) vaccine that displays a neutralizing epitope of foot-and-mouth disease virus (FMDV) VP1 (aa 140–158) on the surface of FNP, and evaluated the immunogenicity and protective efficacy of these FNPs in mouse and guinea pig models to provide a strategy for developing potential FMD vaccines. Results This study expressed the recombinant proteins Hpf, HPF-NE and HPF-T34E via an E. coli expression system. The results showed that the recombinant proteins Hpf, Hpf-NE and Hpf-T34E could be effectively assembled into nanoparticles. Subsequently, we evaluated the immunogenicity of the Hpf, Hpf-NE and Hpf-T34E proteins in mice, as well as the immunogenicity and protectiveness of the Hpf-T34E protein in guinea pigs. The results of the mouse experiment showed that the immune efficacy in the Hpf-T34E group was greater than the Hpf-NE group. The results from guinea pigs immunized with Hpf-T34E showed that the immune efficacy was largely consistent with the immunogenicity of the FMD inactivated vaccine (IV) and could confer partial protection against FMDV challenge in guinea pigs. Conclusions The Hpf-T34E nanoparticles stand out as a superior choice for a subunit vaccine candidate against FMD, offering effective protection in FMDV-infected model animals. FNP-based vaccines exhibit excellent safety and immunogenicity, thus representing a promising strategy for the continued development of highly efficient and safe FMD vaccines.

Abstract. Background:. Homoharringtonine (HHT) is an effective anti-inflammatory, anti-viral, and anti-tumor protein synthesis inhibitor that has been applied clinically. Here, we explored the therapeutic effects of HHT in a mouse heart transplant model. Methods:. Healthy C57BL/6 mice were used to observe the toxicity of HHT in the liver, kidney, and hematology. A mouse heart transplantation model was constructed, and the potential mechanism of HHT prolonging allograft survival was evaluated using Kaplan–Meier analysis, immunostaining, and bulk RNA sequencing analysis. The HHT-T cell crosstalk was modeled ex vivo to further verify the molecular mechanism of HHT-induced regulatory T cells (Tregs) differentiation. Results:. HHT inhibited the activation and proliferation of T cells and promoted their apoptosis ex vivo. Abstract Background Accurate prediction of an individual’s predisposition to diseases is vital for preventive medicine and early intervention. Various statistical and machine learning models have been developed for disease prediction using clinico-genomic data. However, the accuracy of clinico-genomic prediction of diseases may vary significantly across ancestry groups due to their unequal representation in clinical genomic datasets. Methods We introduced a deep transfer learning approach to improve the performance of clinico-genomic prediction models for data-disadvantaged ancestry groups. We conducted machine learning experiments on multi-ancestral genomic datasets of lung cancer, prostate cancer, and Alzheimer’s disease, as well as on synthetic datasets with built-in data inequality and distribution shifts across ancestry groups. Results Deep transfer learning significantly improved disease prediction accuracy for data-disadvantaged populations in our multi-ancestral machine learning experiments. In contrast, transfer learning based on linear frameworks did not achieve comparable improvements for these data-disadvantaged populations. Conclusions This study shows that deep transfer learning can enhance fairness in multi-ancestral machine learning by improving prediction accuracy for data-disadvantaged populations without compromising prediction accuracy for other populations, thus providing a Pareto improvement towards equitable clinico-genomic prediction of diseases.

Abstract The triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells 2 (TREM2) is an immune receptor that affects cellular phenotypes by modulating phagocytosis and metabolism, promoting cell survival, and counteracting inflammation. Its role in renal injury, in particular, unilateral ureteral obstruction (UUO) or ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI)-induced renal injury remains unclear. In our study, WT and Trem2 −/− mice were employed to evaluate the role of TREM2 in renal macrophage infiltration and tissue injury after UUO. Bone marrow-derived macrophages (BMDM) from both mouse genotypes were cultured and polarized for in vitro experiments. Next, the effects of TREM2 on renal injury and macrophage polarization in IRI mice were also explored. We found that TREM2 expression was upregulated in the obstructed kidneys. TREM2 deficiency exacerbated renal inflammation and fibrosis 3 and 7 days after UUO, in association with reduced macrophage infiltration. Trem2 −/− BMDM exhibited increased apoptosis and poorer survival compared with WT BMDM. Meanwhile, TREM2 deficiency augmented M1 and M2 polarization after UUO. Consistent with the in vivo observations, TREM2 deficiency led to increased polarization of BMDM towards the M1 proinflammatory phenotype. Mechanistically, TREM2 deficiency promoted M1 and M2 polarization via the JAK-STAT pathway in the presence of TGF-β1, thereby affecting cell survival by regulating mTOR signaling. Furthermore, cyclocreatine supplementation alleviated cell death caused by TREM2 deficiency. Additionally, we found that TREM2 deficiency promoted renal injury, fibrosis, and macrophage polarization in IRI mice. The current data suggest that TREM2 deficiency aggravates renal injury by promoting macrophage apoptosis and polarization via the JAK-STAT pathway. These findings have implications for the role of TREM2 in the regulation of renal injury that justify further evaluation.

Gut serves as the largest interface between humans and the environment, playing a crucial role in nutrient absorption and protection against harmful substances. The intestinal barrier acts as the initial defense mechanism against non-specific infections, with its integrity directly impacting the homeostasis and health of the human body. The primary factor attributed to the impairment of the intestinal barrier in previous studies has always centered on the gastrointestinal tract itself. In recent years, the concept of the “gut-organ” axis has gained significant popularity, revealing a profound interconnection between the gut and other organs. It speculates that disruption of these axes plays a crucial role in the pathogenesis and progression of intestinal barrier damage. The evaluation of intestinal barrier function and detection of enterogenic endotoxins can serve as “detecting agents” for identifying early functional alterations in the heart, kidney, and liver, thereby facilitating timely intervention in the disorders. Simultaneously, consolidating intestinal barrier integrity may also present a potential therapeutic approach to attenuate damage in other organs. Studies have demonstrated that diverse signaling pathways and their corresponding key molecules are extensively involved in the pathophysiological regulation of the intestinal barrier. Aberrant activation of these signaling pathways and dysregulated expression of key molecules play a pivotal role in the process of intestinal barrier impairment. Microgravity, being the predominant characteristic of space, can potentially exert a significant influence on diverse intestinal barriers. We will discuss the interaction between the “gut-organ” axes and intestinal barrier damage, further elucidate the signaling pathways underlying intestinal barrier damage, and summarize alterations in various components of the intestinal barrier under microgravity. This review aims to offer a novel perspective for comprehending the etiology and molecular mechanisms of intestinal barrier injury as well as the prevention and management of intestinal barrier injury under microgravity environment.

Abstract Nanoelectromechanical system accelerometers have the potential to be utilized in next-generation consumer electronics, inertial navigation, and seismology due to their low cost, small size, and low power consumption. There is an urgent need to develop resonant accelerometer with high sensitivity, precision and robustness. Here, a zinc oxide resonant nano-accelerometer with high sensitivity has been designed and prototyped using zinc oxide nanowires. Within a device two nanowires were symmetrically placed close to a notched flexure to evaluate acceleration based on differential resonant frequencies. Additionally, microleverages were integrated in the accelerometer to enhance its sensitivity by amplifying the inertial force. High performance of the accelerometer has been demonstrated by the measured absolute sensitivity (16.818 kHz/g), bias instability (13.13 μg at 1.2 s integration time) and bandwidth (from 4.78 to 29.64 kHz), respectively. These results suggest that zinc oxide nanowires could be a candidate to develop future nanoelectromechanical resonant accelerometer potentially used for inertial navigation, tilt measurement, and geophysical measurements.

Abstract Background Oral frailty is reported to increase the risk of new onset of mild cognitive impairment. Whereas, the association of oral frailty with cognition among older adults in both physical frail and non-physical frail status has not been sufficiently explored, and whether there are sex differences in the association is unclear. This study investigated the association of oral frailty and physical frailty with global cognitive function and executive function among older adults, as well as the sex differences in such association. Methods This cross-sectional study included 307 participants aged ≥ 60 years old from communities between June 2023 and August 2023, in Nanjing, China. Global cognitive function and executive function were assessed by using the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) and Trail Making Tests A (TMT-A), respectively. Oral frailty was identified by the combination of natural tooth, Oral Frailty Index-8 (OFI-8), and oral diadochokinesis. Physical frailty was measured by using Fried phenotype model which contained 5 criteria: unintentional weight loss, weakness, exhaustion, slowness, and low physical activity. Multiple linear regression analyses for overall participants and stratified by sex and presence or absence of physical frailty were performed, respectively, to examine the association between oral frailty and cognitive functions. Results The median age of participants was 70 years old. The study included 158 (51.5%) females, 53 (17.3%) individuals with physical frailty, and 65 (21.2%) participants with oral frailty. After adjustment, the association between oral frailty and global cognitive function was observed in the physical frailty group (B = -2.67, 95% Confidence Interval [CI]: -5.27 to -0.07, p = 0.045) and the females with physical frailty (B = -4, 95% CI: -7.41 to -0.58, p = 0.024). Oral frailty was associated with executive function in overall participants (B = 0.12, 95% CI: 0.01 to 0.22, p = 0.037), physical frailty group (B = 23.68, 95% CI: 1.37 to 45.99, p = 0.038). In the adjusted models, oral frailty was significantly associated with executive function in all females (B = 0.21, 95% CI: 0.05 to 0.36, p = 0.009), in females without physical frailty (B = 0.19, 95% CI: 0.02 to 0.36, p = 0.027), and in females with physical frailty (B = 48.69, 95% CI: 7.17 to 90.21, p = 0.024). Conclusions Physical frailty intensifies the positive association of oral frailty with poor global cognitive function and executive function among older adults, particularly among females. It is ponderable to consider sex differences and facilitate the management of physical frailty when it comes to promoting cognitive health based on the perspective of oral health among older adults.

Abstract The Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System 29-item Profile version 2.1 (PROMIS-29 V2.1) is a widely utilized self-reported instrument for assessing health outcomes from the patients’ perspectives. This study aimed to evaluate the psychometric properties of the PROMIS-29 V2.1 Chinese version among patients with hematological malignancy. Conducted as a cross-sectional, this research was approved by the Medical Ethical Committee of the Institute of Hematology and Blood Diseases Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College (registration number QTJC2022002-EC-1). We employed convenience sampling to enroll eligible patients with hematological malignancy from four tertiary hospitals in Tianjin, Shandong, Jiangsu, and Anhui province in China between June and August 2023. Participants were asked to complete a socio-demographic information questionnaire, the PROMIS-29 V2.1, and the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-General (FACT-G). We assessed the reliability, ceiling and floor effects, structural, convergent discriminant and criterion validity of the PROMIS-29 V2.1. A total of 354 patients with a mean age of 46.93 years was included in the final analysis. The reliability of the PROMIS-29 V2.1 was affirmed, with Cronbach’s α for the domains ranging from 0.787 to 0.968. Except sleep disturbance, the other six domains had ceiling effects, which were seen on physical function (26.0%), anxiety (37.0%), depression (40.4%), fatigue (18.4%), social roles (18.9%) and pain interference (43.2%), respectively. Methods 126 eyes of 126 age-matched young participants were divided into three groups: Emmetropia and Low Myopia (EaLM) (33 eyes), Moderate Myopia (MM) (39 eyes), and High Myopia (HM) (54 eyes). Each image was uniformly divided into nine regions: supra-temporal (ST), temporal (T), infra-temporal (IT), superior (S), central macular area (C), inferior (I), supra-nasal (SN), nasal (N), and infra-nasal (IN). Various structural parameters, including inner retina thickness (IRT), outer retina thickness (ORT), and choroid thickness (CT), were assessed, and the VD of the superficial capillary plexus (SCP), deep capillary plexus (DCP), choriocapillaries (CC), and choroid vessels (ChdV) were quantified. Results CT in upper fundus exhibited a significant reduction from EaLM to MM. Additionally, ORT (ST, S. SN, C, N, IT, I, IN), CT (ST, S, SN, T, C, N, IT, I, IN) and VDs of SCP (ST, S, C, I, IN), DCP (ST, S, T, C, I) and ChdV (T, N, I, IN) were statistically diminished in EaLM compared to HM. Furthermore, IRT (N), ORT (N, IN), CT (S, SN, T, C, IT, I) and VDs of SCP (I, IN) and DCP (I) exhibited significant decreases as MM progressed towards HM. Intriguingly, there was a notable increase in the VD of CC (ST, S, T, C, N) as myopia progressed from MM to HM. Conclusion Significant changes in retinal and choroid structure and vascular density occur as moderate myopia advances to high myopia. Efforts to curb myopia progression to this stage are essential, as the failure to do so may lead to the development of corresponding retinopathy.

Zein is a primary by-product of corn starch processing, which is inexpensive and easily obtainable. Based on its unique self-assembly properties, zein could be constructed into nanoparticles through various methods, enabling the loading and delivery of bioactive substances. The preparation methods of nanoparticles include anti-solvent precipitation, pH-driven, electrospray, and microfluidics. The preparation methods can produce zein-based nanoparticles that respond to various environmental stimuli and exhibit stable properties. This article reviews recent advances in the preparation methods, response types, and application progress of stimulus-responsive zein-based nanoparticles. The nanoparticles respond to endogenous (pH, enzymes, and redox) and exogenous environmental stimuli (magnetic and light), which have been used for encapsulated delivery of bioactive substances in smart packaging of food, nanopesticides, and nanomedicine. However, maximizing the effect of active substances is difficult to achieve by relying only on a single stimulus-response. Therefore, nanoparticles responding to multiple stimuli (double stimulation, triple stimulation, etc.) have become a new development trend in the delivery field. In the future, more research should be invested in developing multi-stimulus responsive nanoparticles, and how to combine the multiple response properties of nanoparticles with the targeted delivery of nanoparticles remains to be further explored.

Introduction: In the past decade, the construction of ecological civilization has been a major national strategy in China. Since 2020, the Chinese government has officially proposed the goals of achieving peak carbon emissions by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2060. As one of the key issues, promoting a green lifestyle is the fundamental means of achieving ecological civilization construction. It is an inevitable path to achieve the “carbon peak and carbon neutrality” goals. The current status of China’s efforts in this area is undoubtedly worth paying attention to. The purpose of this study is to analyze this issue.Method: This study uses text analysis methods. From 92 policy documents issued by the Chinese government, we extracted effective text totaling 100,122 characters for analysis. Perform three-level coding on the above text, and analyze the policy tools of the Chinese government to promote green lifestyles from three dimensions: the categories of policy tools, the target groups targeted by policy tools, and the implementing entities of policy tools.Conclusion: The study found that the current promotion of a green lifestyle in China primarily relies on information-based policy tools and market-based policy tools, with mandatory tools as a supplement. Information-based policy tools are mainly used for the public, while a combination of market-based policy tools, information-based policy tools, and mandatory policy tools is used for enterprises. Local governments’ attention to this issue is insufficient, manifested in the limited number of policy tools adopted, the single composition of these tools, and the lack of necessary constraints on enterprises.Discussion: Overall, the current policy tool selection is reasonable, but there are also problems such as over-reliance on information-based policy tools, overly simplistic market-based policy tools, insufficient market-based policy tools for the public, and the underuse of voluntary policy tools.

Currently, immunotherapy is being widely used for treating cancers. However, the significant heterogeneity in patient responses is a major challenge for its successful application. CD8-positive T cells (CD8+ T cells) play a critical role in immunotherapy. Both their infiltration and functional status in tumors contribute to treatment outcomes. Therefore, accurate monitoring of CD8+ T cells, a potential biomarker, may improve therapeutic strategy. Positron emission tomography (PET) is an optimal option which can provide molecular imaging with enhanced specificity. This review summarizes the mechanism of action of CD8+ T cells in immunotherapy, and highlights the recent advancements in PET-based tracers that can visualize CD8+ T cells and discusses their clinical applications to elucidate their potential role in cancer immunotherapy.

This article describes constructing an embedded system for a painting art and style presentation platform, achieving the automatic integration of digital painting art with traditional art design. The frontend components are designed using the Bootstrap framework, with Django as the web development framework and TensorFlow architecture integrated into the code. Furthermore, the Inception module and residual connections are introduced to optimize the visual geometry group (VGG) network for recognizing and analyzing image texture features. Compared to other models, experimental results indicate that the proposed model demonstrates a 2.6% increase in image style classification accuracy, reaching 87.34% and 95.33% in architectural and landscape image classification, respectively. The system’s operational outcomes reveal that the proposed platform alleviates the burden on the logical function modules of the system, enhances scalability, and promotes the automated fusion of digital painting art with traditional art design expression.

IntroductionNutritional literacy (NL) has a critical influence on food choices. The objective of the present study was to examine the association of NL with nutrition label use.MethodsA cross-sectional study was conducted in Bengbu, China. In total, 955 adults were interviewed using a questionnaire designed for the present study to collect information on demographics, lifestyle, nutrition label use, and NL. Binary logistic regression models were used to calculate odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) for nutrition label use and its predictive variables.ResultsIn total, 40.4% of the participants reported looking at nutrition label when purchasing prepackaged foods. NL was significantly positively associated with nutrition label use and specifically with checking nutrition facts table, purported nutrition benefits and purported health benefits. In terms of specific facets of NL, nutrition knowledge, applying skills, and critical skills were associated with nutrition label use. After stratification by monthly income and education, the association between NL and nutrition label use was discovered only in individuals with low monthly income. Additionally, nutrition knowledge was associated with nutrition label use only in adults with high education level, whereas applying skills were associated with nutrition label use only in those with low education level.ConclusionThe use of nutrition label remains low among Chinese community residents, especially the purported nutritional benefits and purported health benefits. NL is positively associated with nutrition label use, especially with respect to functional and critical NL, with differences based on socioeconomic status. The findings highlight the need for NL interventions targeting individuals with different levels of education and income to encourage use of nutrition label in China.

Cervical cancer is the second most prevalent malignancy affecting women’s health globally, and the number of morbidity and mortality from cervical cancer continues to rise worldwide. The 5-year survival rate of patients with recurrent or metastatic cervical cancer is significantly reduced, and existing treatment modalities have low efficacy and high adverse effects, so there is a strong need for new, effective, and well-tolerated therapies. Antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) are a new targeted therapeutic modality that can efficiently kill tumor cells. This review aims to summarize the composition, research, and development history and mechanism of action of ADCs, to review the research progress of ADCs in the treatment of cervical cancer, and to summarize and prospect the application of ADCs.

Abstract Background Approximately 40 to 60% of patients with sepsis develop sepsis-induced cardiomyopathy (SIC), which is associated with a substantial increase in mortality. We have found that molecular hydrogen (H2) inhalation improved the survival rate and cardiac injury in septic mice. However, the mechanism remains unclear. This study aimed to explore the regulatory mechanism by which hydrogen modulates autophagy and its role in hydrogen protection of SIC. Methods Cecal ligation and puncture (CLP) was used to induce sepsis in adult C57BL/6J male mice. The mice were randomly divided into 4 groups: Sham, Sham + 2% hydrogen inhalation (H2), CLP, and CLP + H2 group. The 7-day survival rate was recorded. Myocardial pathological scores were calculated. Myocardial troponin I (cTnI) levels in serum were detected, and the levels of autophagy- and mitophagy-related proteins in myocardial tissue were measured. Another four groups of mice were also studied: CLP, CLP + Bafilomycin A1 (BafA1), CLP + H2, and CLP + H2 + BafA1 group. Mice in the BafA1 group received an intraperitoneal injection of the autophagy inhibitor BafA1 1 mg/kg 1 h after operation. The detection indicators remained the same as before. With the proliferation of electric vehicles (EVs) around the world, the large-scale grid-vehicle interaction (GVI) has become more and more promising recently. However, the existing research works on GVI are mainly limited to day-ahead or intra-day schedules which may not fully utilize the EVs' potential in charging/discharging arrangements for the power grid. Besides, the commonly-adopted practice of the central organization by the electric vehicle aggregator (EVA) may induce EV owners' privacy concerns. To solve these problems and furtherly strengthen the GVI willingness of EV users, a distributed week-ahead framework for the charging / discharging schedules of plug-in EVs interacting with the grid under the organization of an EVA is proposed in this paper. To describe the available dispatchable capacity of one single EV on a weekly time scale, the trip-chain based EV charging and travelling behavior model is formulated. For the EVA, it utilizes aggregate EV power and energy boundaries to model its feasible operation region which is crucial for the determination of the guidance tracking power profile in the distribution energy market clearing process. To protect the EVs' privacies and reduce the computational burden, a distributed algorithm is proposed to help the EVA allocate the guidance power profile among EVs. Case studies are conducted to demonstrate the validness and effectiveness of the proposed methods.

Panoramic image object detection has significant applications in autonomous driving, robotic navigation, and security monitoring. However, most current object detection algorithms are trained on pinhole images and cannot be directly applied to panoramic images, which have a large field-of-view (FOV) and distortion. Additionally, research on panoramic image object detection lacks dedicated dataset support, and these images face challenges such as target distortion, occlusion, and multi-scale variations. Existing methods for panoramic image object detection have not yielded satisfactory performance. To address these issues, we propose PanoDetNet, an object detection model based on YOLOv7. We introduce two new modules: the Multi-Scale Feature Fusion (MSFF) module and the Adaptive Panoramic Feature Attention (APFA) module. The MSFF module enhances detection precision for targets of different scales by fusing feature maps of various sizes, while also reducing the number of parameters and simplifying the model structure. The APFA module adaptively addresses the distortion in panoramic images, improving the model’s ability to locate and recognize objects in complex backgrounds and under occlusion. We trained PanoDetNet on our self-built panoramic image object detection dataset, PanoDet. This dataset was collected using a self-developed panoramic camera and manually annotated with the Labelme tool. Experimental results show that PanoDetNet achieves mAP@.5, mAP@.5:.95, and accuracy scores of 95.3%, 75.2%, and 94.1%, respectively. These results represent improvements of 1.6%, 2.5%, and 3.3% over YOLOv7. Our code is available at https://github.com/github98317/PanoDetNet.

Bone nonunion and bone defects frequently occur following high‐energy open injuries or debridement surgeries, presenting complex challenges to treatment and significantly affecting patients' quality of life. At present, there are three primary treatment options available for addressing bone nonunion and bone defects: vascularized bone grafts, the Masquelet technique, and the Ilizarov technique. The Ilizarov technique, also known as distraction osteogenesis, is widely favored by orthopedic surgeons because of several advantages, including minimal soft tissue requirements, low infection risk, and short consolidation time. However, in recent years, the application of the Masquelet technique has resulted in novel treatment methods for managing post‐traumatic bone infections when bone defects are present. Although these new techniques do not constitute a panacea, they continue to be the most commonly employed options for treating complex large bone nonunion and bone defects. This review evaluates the currently available research on the Ilizarov and Masquelet bone transport techniques applied at various anatomical sites. Additionally, it explores treatment durations and associated complications to establish a theoretical foundation that can guide clinical treatment decisions and surgical procedures for the management of bone nonunion and bone defects.

Abstract Aging and cancer are increasingly becoming big challenges for public health worldwide due to increased human life expectancy. Meanwhile, aging is one of the major risk factors for cancer. In December 2019, the first International Conference on Aging and Cancer was held in Haikou, Hainan province (island), China, preluding the establishment of the International Center for Aging and Cancer (ICAC) at Hainan, an institute dedicated to the research at the intersection of aging and cancer. Since then, the ICAC has hosted the annual conference each December in Hainan. The 2022 ICAC conference, with the theme of “promoting longevity with less cancer,” invited 17 internationally renowned scientists to share their new research and insights. Topics included DNA methylation in rejuvenation, development, and cellular senescence; lifespan regulation and longevity manipulation; metabolism and aging; cellular senescence and diseases; and novel therapeutics for cancer and antiaging/anticancer drug discovery. The forum highlighted the interconnectedness of aging and senescence with cancer evolution and risk. Although there is hope for preventing diseases like cancer by modulating systems that also control lifespan, attention has to be paid to the conflicting needs and competing demands in human biology.

AbstractBackground The value of plasma Platelet-Derived Growth Factor (PDGF) as a biomarker in predicting major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs) in patients with acute non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) remains unclear.Methods A total of 242 patients with NSTEMI were enrolled in this observational cohort study. The correlation between PDGF and MACEs was evaluated during a five-year follow-up. Kaplan–Meier survival analysis with Cox proportional-hazards regression was used to identify predictive values of PDGF.Results The mean follow-up of NSTEMI patients was 1334 days. It was found that as the PDGF level increased, a significant uptrend in the incidence of MACEs and all-cause death, including the MACEs of 30 days, 180 days, 1 year, 5 years and the death of 1 year and 5 years (All Log-rank p 65 years, GRACE score ≥140 and platelet count (PLT) >200 × 109/L.Conclusion PDGF levels can predict short-term and long-term MACEs in NSTEMI patients after discharge, especially for patients with older age, higher GRACE score and baseline PLT > 200 × 109/L.Key messagesPDGF is a risk factor for short- and long-term MACEs in patients with STEMI.PDGF has a better prognostic value in patients with older age and PLT > 200 × 109/L.Baseline plasma PDGF levels were positively correlated with GRACE score.

Two-component systems (TCS) of Salmonella enterica serovar Enteritidis are composed of a histidine kinase and a response regulator (RR) and represent a critical mechanism by which bacteria develop resistance to environmental stress. Here, we characterized the functions of RRs in TCS in the formation of stress tolerance, motility and biofilm using twenty-six S. Enteritidis RR-encoding gene deletion mutants. The viability results unraveled their essential roles in resistance to elevated temperature (GlrR), pH alterations (GlrR, TctD, YedW, ArcA and YehT), high salt (PhoB, BaeR, CpxR, PhoP, UvrY and TctD), oxidative stress (PhoB, YedW, BaeR, ArcA, PhoP, UvrY, PgtA and QseB) and motility (ArcA, GlnG, PgtA, PhoB, UhpA, OmpR, UvrY and QseB) of S. Enteritidis. The results of the crystal violet staining, microscopy observation and Congo red binding assays demonstrated that the absence of ArcA, GlnG, PhoP, OmpR, ZraR or SsrB in S. Enteritidis led to a reduction in biofilms and an impairment in red/dry/rough macrocolony formation, whereas the absence of UvrY exhibited an increase in biofilms and formed a brown/smooth/sticky macrocolony. The results indicated the regulatory effects of these RRs on the production of biofilm matrix, curli fimbriae and cellulose. Our findings yielded insights into the role of TCSs, making them a promising target for combating S. Enteritidis.

Enteroviruses such as coxsackievirus B3 are identified as a common cause of viral myocarditis, but the potential mechanism of its replication and pathogenesis are largely unknown. The genomes of a variety of viruses contain N6-methyladenosine (m6A), which plays important roles in virus replication. Here, by using the online bioinformatics tools SRAMP and indirect immunofluorescence assay (IFA), we predict that the CVB3 genome contains m6A sites and found that CVB3 infection could alter the expression and cellular localization of m6A-related proteins. Moreover, we found that 3-deazaadenosine (3-DAA), an m6A modification inhibitor, significantly decreased CVB3 replication. We also observed that the m6A methyltransferases methyltransferase-like protein 3 (METTL3) and METTL14 play positive roles in CVB3 replication, whereas m6A demethylases fat mass and obesity-associated protein (FTO) or AlkB homolog 5 (ALKBH5) have opposite effects. Knockdown of the m6A binding proteins YTH domain family protein 1 (YTHDF1), YTHDF2 and YTHDF3 strikingly decreased CVB3 replication. Finally, the m6A site mutation in the CVB3 genome decreased the replication of CVB3 compared with that in the CVB3 wild-type (WT) strain. Taken together, our results demonstrated that CVB3 could exploit m6A modification to promote viral replication, which provides new insights into the mechanism of the interaction between CVB3 and the host.

Objective: The study analyzed the impact of urbanization on epidemiological characteristics of respiratory infectious disease in Tongzhou District, Beijing during 2014–2022 to provide reference for prevention and control priorities of respiratory infectious diseases during the innovative urbanization process in China. Methods: The incidence data of notifiable respiratory infectious diseases (NRIDs) in Tongzhou Beijing during 2014–2022 were summarized. The trend of incidence rate was analyzed by Joinpoint regression model, and entropy method was performed to construct the comprehensive index of urbanization (CIU) and generalized linear model was used to analyze the influence of CIU on the incidence rate of respiratory infectious diseases. Results: Totally 72616 NRIDs cases were reported in Tongzhou District during 2014–2022, and the incidence rate of NRIDs was higher during 2017–2019 (153/100 000) than during 2014–2016 (930/100 000) and during 2020–2022 (371/100 000), respectively (both P

Yaks inhabit high-altitude, low-oxygen regions, where ion transport functions play a crucial role in maintaining intracellular and extracellular ionic balance and regulating pulmonary vascular tension. These functions affect pulmonary ventilation and blood flow rate, aiding tissue development and enhancing oxygen transfer efficiency, thus facilitating better adaptation to hypoxic environments. To investigate the regulatory mechanisms of ion transport-related factors on the growth and development of yak lungs, we employed RNA sequencing (RNA-seq)for sequencing the transcriptome in the lung tissues of neonatal (1-day-old), juvenile (1-year-old), and adult (4-year-old) yaks. We also performed differential gene expression and functional analyses. The results yielded 26 genes associated with ion transport, mainly enriched in the salivary and pancreatic secretion pathways. Artificial intelligence (AI), as an important engine for promoting high-quality economic development, should not be overlooked in terms of its impact on the employment of the labor force while promoting the digital and intelligent transformation of industries. In the face of the complex international environment and non-systemic shocks, it is of great significance to explore whether it is “machine replacement” or “job creation” in the process of the integration of AI and industry, as well as the impact of technological progress on the employment pattern of the labor force, in order to promote the economic development, respond to and solve the employment problem. It is of great significance to promote economic development and cope with and solve the employment problem. Based on the task model, this paper analyses the mechanism of the impact of AI on the employment pattern of manufacturing industry. Meanwhile, based on the provincial panel data of China's manufacturing industry from 2011 to 2020, it empirically examines the impact of AI on the total employment, employment structure and employment quality of the labor force, and analyses the multiple responses of AI on the employment pattern of the manufacturing industry. The study shows that: Firstly, the level of development of AI and the total amount of employment is a positive U-shaped relationship, the short term is dominated by the substitution effect, and the long term is dominated by the creation effect; Secondly, with regard to the employment structure, low-skilled labor is more likely to be replaced. The financial, accommodation and catering industries are relatively less affected by the spillover effects of the manufacturing industry; Third, with regard to the employment quality, the gap between urban and rural incomes has eased, with per capita net income of rural residents rising to a higher degree than per capita disposable income of urban residents. Thus, in order to further address the impact of AI on the employment patterns of the labor force, the level of AI development should be increased while expanding employment channels, paying attention to labor force skills training, reinforcing the leading role of developed regions, and accelerating regional integration and urban-rural integration, so as to share the dividends of technological progress.

Abstract Convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have demonstrated impressive results in additive white Gaussian noise removal due to their strong fitting ability. However, their performance in mixed noise removal remains unsatisfactory, primarily due to their limited receptive field that focuses only on the local features of images and disregards global information. To ameliorate this issue, recent state‐of‐the‐art approaches employ attention mechanism (AM) to capture the global information. However, most AM based methods still suffer from low computational efficiency. In this paper, a novel model named simple dual attention mechanism UNet (SDAUNet) for mixed noise removal is proposed. In SDAUNet, the UNet architecture is used to gradually acquire multi‐scale image features and provide a more comprehensive and accurate representation of the image features than other CNNs. A simple dual attention convolutional block is presented to acquire the global image features that can successfully capture image details with a low burden. The experimental results demonstrate that the SDAUNet model can achieve better measurement metrics and visual performance than other state‐of‐the‐art methods.

Abstract Background The protein tyrosine phosphatase H receptor (PTPRH) is known to regulate the occurrence and development of pancreatic and colorectal cancer. However, its association with glycolysis in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is still unclear. In this study, we aimed to investigate the relationship between PTPRH expression and glucose metabolism and the underlying mechanism of action. Methods The expression of PTPRH in NSCLC cells was evaluated by IHC staining, qRT‒PCR and Western blotting. The effect of PTPRH on cell biological behavior was evaluated by colony assays, EdU experiments, Transwell assays, wound healing assays and flow cytometry. Changes in F-18-fluorodeoxyglucose (18F‐FDG) uptake and glucose metabolite levels after altering PTPRH expression were detected via a gamma counter and lactic acid tests. The expression of glycolysis-related proteins in NSCLC cells was detected by Western blotting after altering PTPRH expression. Results The results showed that PTPRH was highly expressed in clinical patient tissue samples and closely related to tumor diameter and clinical stage. In addition, PTPRH expression was associated with glycometabolism indexes on 18F-FDG positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) imaging, the expression level of Ki67 and the expression levels of glycolysis-related proteins. PTPRH altered cell behavior, inhibited apoptosis, and promoted 18F-FDG uptake, lactate production, and the expression of glycolysis-related proteins. In addition, PTPRH modulated the glycometabolism of NSCLC cells via the phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase (PI3K)/protein kinase B (AKT)/mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) signaling pathway, as assessed using LY294002 and 740Y-P (an inhibitor and agonist of PI3K, respectively). The same results were validated in vivo using a xenograft tumor model in nude mice. Protein expression levels of PTPRH, glycolysis-related proteins, p-PI3K/PI3K and p-AKT/AKT were measured by IHC staining using a subcutaneous xenograft model in nude mice. Conclusions In summary, we report that PTPRH promotes glycolysis, proliferation, migration, and invasion via the PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway in NSCLC and ultimately promotes tumor progression, which can be regulated by LY294002 and 740Y-P. These results suggest that PTPRH is a potential therapeutic target for NSCLC. Graphical Abstract

Abstract The characteristics of food environments people are exposed to, such as the density of fast food (FF) outlets, can impact their diet and risk for diet-related chronic disease. Previous studies examining the relationship between food environments and nutritional health have produced mixed findings, potentially due to the predominant focus on static food environments around people’s homes. As smartphone ownership increases, large-scale data on human mobility (i.e., smartphone geolocations) represents a promising resource for studying dynamic food environments that people have access to and visit as they move throughout their day. This study investigates whether mobility data provides meaningful indicators of diet, measured as FF intake, and diet-related disease, evaluating its usefulness for food environment research. Using a mobility dataset consisting of 14.5 million visits to geolocated food outlets in Los Angeles County (LAC) across a representative sample of 243,644 anonymous and opted-in adult smartphone users in LAC, we construct measures of visits to FF outlets aggregated over users living in neighborhood. We find that the aggregated measures strongly and significantly correspond to self-reported FF intake, obesity, and diabetes in a diverse, representative sample of 8,036 LAC adults included in a population health survey carried out by the LAC Department of Public Health. Visits to FF outlets were a better predictor of individuals’ obesity and diabetes than their self-reported FF intake, controlling for other known risks. These findings suggest mobility data represents a valid tool to study people’s use of dynamic food environments and links to diet and health.

Abstract Background Dermatophytes are the most common causative pathogens of mycoses worldwide and usually cause superficial infections. However, they can enter deep into the dermis lead to invasive dermatophytosis such as deeper dermal dermatophytosis on rare occasions. Erythroderma is a severe dermatological manifestation of various diseases resulting in generalized skin redness, but erythroderma due to fungi infections is barely reported. In this article, we reported the first case of erythroderma combined with deeper dermal dermatophytosis due to Trichophyton rubrum (T. rubrum) in a patient with myasthenia gravis. Case presentation A 48-year-old man was hospitalized because of erythema with scaling and nodules covering his body for a month. The patient had a history of myasthenia gravis controlled by regularly taking prednisolone for > 10 years and accompanied by onychomycosis and tinea pedis lasting > 8 years. Based on histopathological examinations, fungal cultures, and DNA sequencing results, the patient was finally diagnosed with dermatophyte-induced erythroderma combined with deeper dermal dermatophytosis caused by T. rubrum. After 2 weeks of antifungal treatment, the patient had recovered well. Conclusions This case report shows that immunosuppressed patients with long histories of superficial mycoses tend to have a higher risk of developing invasive dermatophytic infections or disseminated fungal infections. Dermatologists should be alert to this condition and promptly treat the superficial dermatophytosis.

Deep convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have demonstrated significant potential in enhancing image denoising performance. However, most denoising methods fuse different levels of features through long and short skip connections, easily generating a lot of redundant information, thereby weakening the complementarity of different levels of features, resulting in the loss of image details. In this paper, we propose a multi-scale detail–noise complementary learning (MDNCL) network for additive white Gaussian noise removal and real-world noise removal. The MDNCL network comprises two branches, namely the Detail Feature Learning Branch (DLB) and the Noise Learning Branch (NLB). Specifically, a loss function is applied to guide the complementary learning of image detail features and noisy mappings in these two branches. This learning approach effectively balances noise reduction and detail restoration, especially when dealing with high ratios of noise. To enhance the complementarity of features between different network layers and avoid redundant information, we designed a Feature Subtraction Unit (FSU) to capture the differences in features across the DLB network layers. Our extensive experimental evaluations demonstrate that the MDNCL approach achieves impressive denoising performance and outperforms other popular denoising methods.

To survive in low-oxygen environments, yaks effectively avoid hypoxia-induced pulmonary arterial hypertension through vascular remodeling. The TGF-β/BMP signaling pathway plays a key role in maintaining the homeostasis of pulmonary artery smooth muscle cells (PASMCs). However, little is known about the molecular regulatory mechanisms by which the TGF-β/BMP signaling pathway contributes to the proliferation of yak PASMCs. In this study, yak PASMCs were cultured in vitro, and a hypoxia model was constructed to investigate the effect of TGFβ/BMP signaling on yak PASMC proliferation. Hypoxia treatment increased the proliferation of yak PASMCs significantly. As the duration of hypoxia increased, the expression levels of TGF-β1 and the phosphorylation levels of Smad2/3 were upregulated significantly. The BMP signaling pathway was transiently activated by hypoxia, with increases in BMPR2 expression and Smad1/5 phosphorylation, and these changes were gradually reversed with prolonged hypoxia exposure. In addition, exogenous TGF-β1 activated the TGF-β signaling pathway, increased the phosphorylation levels of the downstream proteins Smad2 and Smad3, and increased the proliferation and migration rates of yak PASMCs significantly. Finally, treatment with noggin (an inhibitor of BMP signaling) significantly reduced BMPR2 protein expression levels and Smad1/5 phosphorylation levels and increased yak PASMC proliferation and migration rates. In summary, these results revealed that under hypoxic conditions, the dynamic regulation of the TGF-β/BMP signaling pathway promotes the proliferation of yak PASMCs.

This study analyzed the differential composition between from concentrate (FC) and not from concentrate (NFC) bayberry juices by ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UPLC-QTOF-MS). NFC and FC bayberry juice were distinguished from each other by orthogonal partial least squares discriminant analysis, and 9 compounds that significantly differed in abundance between them were selected and identified according to the variable importance in the projection and the fold-change. By comparison, the content of antioxidant active components such as 4-sulfobenzoate, 5-methyltetrahydrofolic acid, cyanidin, daphnoretin, xanthotoxol and isoxanthopterin in FC bayberry juice were relatively low, whereas the bitter substances (neohesperidin, hesperidin and quercetin-3-O-neohesperidin) were relatively high. Metabolic pathways were analyzed on account of differential metabolites and five metabolic pathways with great differences were identified, among which phenylalanine metabolism, biosynthesis of flavonoids and flavonols were the key metabolic pathways of different metabolites in NFC and FC bayberry juice. This study revealed the difference of metabolites between NFC and FC bayberry juice, which provided theoretical reference for the processing and identification of NFC bayberry juice.

Objective: To improve the polysaccharide content and biological activities of the fermented Chinese yam polysaccharides (FCYP) by fermentation with Saccharomyces boulardii. Methods: The contents of polysaccharides, total protein and polyphenols of FCYP and unfermented Chinese yam polysaccharides (UCYP) were determined by phenol-sulfuric acid method, coomassie bright blue method and folin-ciocalteu method, respectively. The monosaccharide composition and physicochemical properties of FCYP and UCYP were determined by ultraviolet spectrum analysis, high performance liquid chromatography and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Then the antioxidant activity and immunomodulatory activity were compared and analyzed. Fruit maturity is a major factor associated with the final juice’s flavor quality. To explore the flavor changes and differences of the honey peach juice processed from different maturities, ‘Hujingmilu’ honey peaches from three different maturities were selected for the study. Flavor profiles of honey peach juice with different maturities were separated and identified by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and gas chromatography-ion mobility spectrometry (GC-IMS). The results showed that sucrose and malate were the major accumulation forms in mature fruits. 70% maturity fruit juice had the lowest total sugar and total acid content. The total sugar (112.58 mg/g FW), sweetness value (99.40), sugar-acid ratio (15.57), and sweet-acid ratio (13.74) of the 80% maturity fruit juice were relatively high, and the sweet and sour flavor was strong. Meanwhile, the relative content of alcohol (11.79%) in 80% maturity fruit juice was higher, giving the juice a strong fruity and sweet aroma. The sweetness value (93.35), sugar-acid ratio (13.38), and sweet-acid ratio (11.93) of the 90% maturity fruit juice were the lowest. As the maturity increased, the ester content gradually increased, while the aldehyde content gradually decreased. The principal component analysis showed that 80% maturity fruit juice was suitable for processing high-quality honey peach juice, with a suitable sweet-sour taste, and strong fruity, floral aromas. This study provides theoretical and data support for the research and development of honey peach juice based on natural flavor.

Abstract Background To provide a reference for clinical selection of collagen membranes by analyzing the properties of three kinds of collagen membranes widely used in clinics: Bio-Gide membrane from porcine dermis (PD), Heal-All membrane from bovine dermis (BD), and Lyoplant membrane from bovine pericardium (BP). Methods The barrier function of three kinds of collagen membranes were evaluated by testing the surface morphology, mechanical properties, hydrophilicity, and degradation rate of collagen membranes in collagenase and artificial saliva. In addition, the bioactivity of each collagen membrane as well as the proliferation and osteogenesis of MC3T3-E1 cells were evaluated. Mass spectrometry was also used to analyze the degradation products. Results The BP membrane had the highest tensile strength and Young’s modulus as well as the largest water contact angle. The PD membrane exhibited the highest elongation at break, the smallest water contact angle, and the lowest degradation weight loss. The BD membrane had the highest degradation weight loss, the highest number of proteins in its degradation product, the strongest effect on the proliferation of MC3T3-E1 cells, and the highest expression level of osteogenic genes. Conclusions The PD membrane is the best choice for shaping and maintenance time, while the BD membrane is good for osteogenesis, and the BP membrane is suitable for spatial maintenance. To meet the clinical requirements of guided bone regeneration, using two different kinds of collagen membranes concurrently to exert their respective advantages is an option worth considering.
