H10 subtype avian influenza viruses (AIV) have been circulating in China for 40 years. H10 AIVs in China have expanded their host range from wild birds to domestic poultry and mammals, even human. Most of the H10 subtype AIVs reported in China were isolate from the southeast part. We isolated an H10N3 AIV, A/Chicken/Liaoning/SY1080/2021 (SY1080), from live poultry market (LPM) in Liaoning Province of the Northeast China. SY1080 replicated efficiently in mice lungs and nasal turbinates without prior adaptation. We systematically compared SY1080 with other H10 subtype isolates in China. Phylogenetic analysis showed that SY1080 and most of the H10 strains belonged to the Eurasian lineage. H10 AIVs in China have formed 63 genotypes. SY1080 as well as the H10N3 strains from human infections belonged to G60 genotype. H10Nx AIV acquired multiple mammalian adaptive and virulence related mutations during circulation and the recent reassortants derived internal genes from chicken H9N2 AIVs. The H10Nx subtypes AIVs posed potential threat to public health. These results suggested we should strengthen the surveillance and evaluation of H10 subtype strains.

Abstract Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) stands as a significant global health challenge, with its intricate pathophysiological manifestations often demanding advanced diagnostic strategies. The recent applications of artificial intelligence (AI) within the realm of medical imaging, especially in computed tomography, present a promising avenue for transformative changes in COPD diagnosis and management. This review delves deep into the capabilities and advancements of AI, particularly focusing on machine learning and deep learning, and their applications in COPD identification, staging, and imaging phenotypes. Emphasis is laid on the AI-powered insights into emphysema, airway dynamics, and vascular structures. The challenges linked with data intricacies and the integration of AI in the clinical landscape are discussed. Lastly, the review casts a forward-looking perspective, highlighting emerging innovations in AI for COPD imaging and the potential of interdisciplinary collaborations, hinting at a future where AI doesn’t just support but pioneers breakthroughs in COPD care. Through this review, we aim to provide a comprehensive understanding of the current state and future potential of AI in shaping the landscape of COPD diagnosis and management.

Abstract Background Transfer to the ICU is common following non-cardiac surgeries, including radical colorectal cancer (CRC) resection. Understanding the judicious utilization of costly ICU medical resources and supportive postoperative care is crucial. This study aimed to construct and validate a nomogram for predicting the need for mandatory ICU admission immediately following radical CRC resection. Methods Retrospective analysis was conducted on data from 1003 patients who underwent radical or palliative surgery for CRC at Ningxia Medical University General Hospital from August 2020 to April 2022. Patients were randomly assigned to training and validation cohorts in a 7:3 ratio. Independent predictors were identified using the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) and multivariate logistic regression in the training cohort to construct the nomogram. An online prediction tool was developed for clinical use. The nomogram's calibration and discriminative performance were assessed in both cohorts, and its clinical utility was evaluated through decision curve analysis (DCA). Results The final predictive model comprised age (P = 0.003, odds ratio [OR] 3.623, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.535–8.551); nutritional risk screening 2002 (NRS2002) (P = 0.000, OR 6.129, 95% CI 2.920–12.863); serum albumin (ALB) (P = 0.013, OR 0.921, 95% CI 0.863–0.982); atrial fibrillation (P = 0.000, OR 20.017, 95% CI 4.191–95.609); chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) (P = 0.009, OR 8.151, 95% CI 1.674–39.676); forced expiratory volume in 1 s / Forced vital capacity (FEV1/FVC) (P = 0.040, OR 0.966, 95% CI 0.935–0.998); and surgical method (P = 0.024, OR 0.425, 95% CI 0.202–0.891). The area under the curve was 0.865, and the consistency index was 0.367. The Hosmer–Lemeshow test indicated excellent model fit (P = 0.367). The calibration curve closely approximated the ideal diagonal line. DCA showed a significant net benefit of the predictive model for postoperative ICU admission. Conclusion Predictors of ICU admission following radical CRC resection include age, preoperative serum albumin level, nutritional risk screening, atrial fibrillation, COPD, FEV1/FVC, and surgical route. The predictive nomogram and online tool support clinical decision-making for postoperative ICU admission in patients undergoing radical CRC surgery. Trial registration Despite the retrospective nature of this study, we have proactively registered it with the Chinese Clinical Trial Registry. The registration number is ChiCTR2200062210, and the date of registration is 29/07/2022.

Abstract Background Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a prevalent and debilitating respiratory condition that imposes a significant healthcare burden worldwide. Accurate staging of COPD severity is crucial for patient management and treatment planning. Methods The retrospective study included 530 hospital patients. A lobe-based radiomics method was proposed to classify COPD severity using computed tomography (CT) images. First, we segmented the lung lobes with a convolutional neural network model. Secondly, the radiomic features of each lung lobe are extracted from CT images, the features of the five lung lobes are merged, and the selection of features is accomplished through the utilization of a variance threshold, t-Test, least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO). Finally, the COPD severity was classified by a support vector machine (SVM) classifier. Results 104 features were selected for staging COPD according to the Global initiative for chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD). The SVM classifier showed remarkable performance with an accuracy of 0.63. Moreover, an additional set of 132 features were selected to distinguish between milder (GOLD I + GOLD II) and more severe instances (GOLD III + GOLD IV) of COPD. The accuracy for SVM stood at 0.87. Conclusions The proposed method proved that the novel lobe-based radiomics method can significantly contribute to the refinement of COPD severity staging. By combining radiomic features from each lung lobe, it can obtain a more comprehensive and rich set of features and better capture the CT radiomic features of the lung than simply observing the lung as a whole.

Abstract Background Analyzing distance-dependent functional connectivity density (FCD) yields valuable insights into patterns of brain activity. Nevertheless, whether alterations of FCD in non-acute stroke patients are associated with the anatomical distance between brain regions remains unclear. This study aimed to explore the distance-related functional reorganization in non-acute stroke patients following left and right hemisphere subcortical lesions, and its relationship with clinical assessments. Methods In this study, we used resting-state fMRI to calculate distance-dependent (i.e., short- and long-range) FCD in 25 left subcortical stroke (LSS) patients, 22 right subcortical stroke (RSS) patients, and 39 well-matched healthy controls (HCs). Then, we compared FCD differences among the three groups and assessed the correlation between FCD alterations and paralyzed motor function using linear regression analysis. Results Our findings demonstrated that the left inferior frontal gyrus displayed distance-independent FCD changes, while the bilateral supplementary motor area, cerebellum, and left middle occipital gyrus exhibited distance-dependent FCD alterations in two patient subgroups compared with HCs. Furthermore, we observed a positive correlation between increased FCD in the bilateral supplementary motor area and the motor function of lower limbs, and a negative correlation between increased FCD in the left inferior frontal gyrus and the motor function of both upper and lower limbs across all stroke patients. These associations were validated by using a longitudinal dataset. Conclusions The FCD in the cerebral and cerebellar cortices shows distance-related changes in non-acute stroke patients with motor dysfunction, which may serve as potential biomarkers for predicting motor outcomes after stroke. These findings enhance our comprehension of the neurobiological mechanisms driving non-acute stroke. Trial registration All data used in the present study were obtained from a research trial registered with the ClinicalTrials.gov database (NCT05648552, registered 05 December 2022, starting from 01 January 2022).

Alkylphenols (APs) may cause gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) in pregnant women by impairing glucose metabolism through endocrine disruption. However, the current literature has limited epidemiological evidence on the association between APs exposure and the risk of GDM, especially the lack of evidence on joint exposure. Thus, we evaluated the effect of exposure to APs during early pregnancy on the risk of GDM. The study involved 2035 pregnant women from Guangxi Zhuang Birth Cohort (GZBC) in China. Poisson regression model, restricted cubic spline (RCS), Bayesian kernel machine regression (BKMR), and quantile g-computation (Qgcomp) were conducted to evaluate the effects of serum APs levels on the risk of GDM in pregnant women. For each Ln-unit increase in the serum nonylphenol (NP) of pregnant women, the adjusted relative risk (RR) for GDM risk was 1.12 (95 % CI: 1.00, 1.24). After sex stratification, the effect was more pronounced among pregnant women carrying female fetuses（RR=1.22; 95 % CI: 1.09, 1.38). The serum 4-t-octylphenol (4-T-OP) of the medium-exposure (adjusted RR = 3.25: 95 % CI: 1.30, 8.12) and high-exposure groups (adjusted RR = 2.90: 95 % CI: 1.15, 7.31) were related to a significantly increased risk of GDM in pregnant women carrying female fetuses only when compared to the low-exposure group. A reverse U-shaped nonlinear association was found between 4-n-octylphenol (4-N-OP) and 4-n-nonylphenol (4-N-NP) concentrations and GDM risk, and it was more susceptible in pregnant women carrying female fetuses. The Qgcomp and BKMR models showed that exposure to APs mixtures was correlated with an elevated risk of GDM in pregnant women carrying female fetuses (adjusted OR = 1.90: 95 % CI: 1.07, 3.38). Exposure to APs during early pregnancy may have potential fetal sex-specific effects on the risk of GDM, with pregnant women carrying female fetuses being more susceptible.

Clinopodium polycephalum (Vaniot) C. Y. Wu & S. J. Hsuan, a vital plant in traditional Chinese medicine, has been used for its hemostatic properties since 1220 AD. Despite its recognized medicinal benefits including anti-inflammatory and cardiovascular applications and increasing market demands, research on this plant remains limited, particularly from the perspective of plant ecology. Due to global warming and the resultant climate change, studies on the distribution and conservation of C. polycephalum are of great importance, especially when a clear trend that its habitat shifts to the north was observed. To predict the potential distribution of C. polycephalum under distinct climate situations, the MaxEnt model was used along with the ArcGIS software. As a result, an AUC value of 0.931 was achieved, indicating high predictive accuracy of the model. By analyzing 135 occurrence points and their corresponding bioclimatic factors (including precipitation), soil data, and other environmental variables (49 in total), 16 key factors including pH value and basic saturation were selected for downstream analysis. It was found that solar radiation in May, precipitation in May and April, and the lowest temperature in the coldest month are important factors influencing the growth and distribution of C. polycephalum. Compared to the current climate scenario, the future suitable habitat for C. polycephalum is expected to shift northwest, and under the SSP245-2061-2080 climate scenario, its highly suitable habitat area is projected to increase by 886,000 km2. These findings provide crucial insights into the environmental drivers of C. polycephalum distribution and aid in its preservation and sustainable use in traditional medicine. Based on the findings of this study, future research should focus on factors such as solar radiation in May and the lowest temperature in the coldest month within the suitable habitat to ensure its effective conservation.

Refractory high-entropy alloys (RHEAs) have a great potential in high-temperature electronics, extensive aerospace and biomedical applications due to their unique strength and ductility. Herein, the effects of alloying elements on the mechanical and electronic properties of NbTaTiZrX (X = V, Mo, Hf, W and Re) RHEAs are investigated by using the density functional theory (DFT) in combination with the special quasi-random structure (SQS) and virtual crystal approximation (VCA) methods. The calculated results show that alloying of Mo, W and Re with high elastic modulus can enhance the strength and the hardness of RHEAs. Among them, NbTaTiZrRe RHEA with the best strengthening effect has a yield strength of exceeds 2 GPa, which is notably higher than other considered high-entropy alloys. For alloying of V and Hf, the ductility of RHEAs is improved, and among which, NbTaTiZrHf RHEA has a relatively best ductility. Compared with other NbTaTiZrX RHEAs, spiral dislocations in NbTaTiZrHf RHEA are more prone to nucleate, and which confirms its excellent ductility. Moreover, the reduction of pseudo energy gaps and the formation of Hf–Hf strong metallic bonds further confirm its metallic ductility from the electronic density of states and charge density. The theoretical predictions in this study are congruent with the existing experimental data, and have certain theoretical guidance relevance for enhancing the mechanical characteristics of NbTaTiZrX (X = V, Mo, Hf, W and Re) RHEAs.

In this paper, the microstructure and mechanical properties of CoCrFeNiMox (x = 0, 0.1, 0.3, 0.5, 0.7, and 1.0) high-entropy alloys (HEAs) prepared with high-vacuum arc melting method were studied in detail. After Mo-doping, the strengthening mechanism of HEAs mainly included the component segregation strengthening and the second phase strengthening. Cr and Mo elements were enriched at the grain boundary of HEAs, which leaded to the formation of σ phase and strengthens the alloys. The microhardness and strength increased with Mo contents, while the elongation decreased gradually. Among which, the higher microhardness, yield strength, and ultimate tensile strength of CoCrFeNiMo0.3 alloy reach 205.96 HV, 292.22 MPa, and 593.25 MPa, respectively, in compared with other alloys. More importantly, the percentage elongation of which remains 37.36%, and the microhardness distribution was uniform with an average value of 7.4 GPa and an elastic modulus of 263.6 GPa. The research findings presented in this paper could serve as a valuable theoretical basis and practical foundations for the strengthening efforts of face centered cubic (FCC) HEAs.

Abstract Nanothermometers enable the detection of temperature changes at the microscopic scale, which is crucial for elucidating biological mechanisms and guiding treatment strategies. However, temperature monitoring of micron-scale structures in vivo using luminescent nanothermometers remains challenging, primarily due to the severe scattering effect of biological tissue that compromises the imaging resolution. Herein, a lanthanide luminescence nanothermometer with a working wavelength beyond 1500 nm is developed to achieve high-resolution temperature imaging in vivo. The energy transfer between lanthanide ions (Er3+ and Yb3+) and H2O molecules, called the environment quenching assisted downshifting process, is utilized to establish temperature-sensitive emissions at 1550 and 980 nm. Using an optimized thin active shell doped with Yb3+ ions, the nanothermometer’s thermal sensitivity and the 1550 nm emission intensity are enhanced by modulating the environment quenching assisted downshifting process. Consequently, minimally invasive temperature imaging of the cerebrovascular system in mice with an imaging resolution of nearly 200 μm is achieved using the nanothermometer. This work points to a method for high-resolution temperature imaging of micron-level structures in vivo, potentially giving insights into research in temperature sensing, disease diagnosis, and treatment development.

The safety of aircraft landing on wet runways is of great importance in runway risk management. In order to ensure landing safety on wet runways, real-time risk warning is required. This paper proposes a method to assess aircraft landing risk in real-time based on finite element-virtual prototype-machine learning co-simulation. Firstly, a tire-water film-runway finite element model was constructed, a virtual prototype model was built based on the Airbus A320 model, and the results of the tire-water film-runway local finite element dynamic analysis were transferred to the system simulation of the virtual prototype for co-simulation. Secondly, considering the influence of wet state parameters on the runway, a database of aircraft anti-skid failure risk was constructed, and three machine learning models were trained to predict aircraft landing risk. The results show that the Support Vector Machine (SVM) model has better generalization capability and should be used to predict the risk level of aircraft landing. The efficacy of the comprehensive taxiing model was validated using an empirical formula for determining the aircraft's landing distance on a wet runway. When an aircraft lands on a runway with an average water film thickness of 8 mm, the braking time is approximately 1.6 times longer than on a dry runway, and the braking distance is roughly 5.3 times greater than on a dry runway. Finally, a risk assessment example was provided: the entire process from landing information input to risk level output for the aircraft model took only 80 ms, which could provide an efficient and real-time aircraft landing risk assessment.

Ovarian cancer represents a major public health concern worldwide. High-grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC) is a primary epithelial ovarian cancer. Cisplatin resistance poses a substantial obstacle in the management of HGSOC, leading to unfavourable patient outcomes. The primary objective of this study was to investigate the mechanisms underlying cisplatin resistance in patients with HGSOC. TCGA data, GSE65819 dataset, and multiMiR package were used to identify 35 differentially expressed miRNAs (DE-miRNAs). Differentially expressed mRNAs (DE-mRNAs) are indicated using TCGA data. Further, weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) was used to determine the correlation coefficients between the DE-mRNAs and DE-miRNAs. A network of miR-486-3p and TMIGD2 was constructed. Molecular biology experiments also indicated that low miR-486-3p or high TMIGD2 expression significantly increased the migratory rate and cisplatin resistance of both SK-OV3 and A2780 cells. In contrast, overexpression of miR-486-3p or downregulation of TMIGD2 decreased the migration rate and enhanced the sensitivity to cisplatin treatment, which provides insights for the development of novel therapeutic approaches. Moreover, RNA-binding protein immunoprecipitation experiment was used to determine the relationship between miR-486-3p and TMIGD2. Cell rescue assays were performed to further investigate these regulatory relationships. In TCGA and GSE65819 datasets, Benjamini and Hochberg false discovery rates (FDR) were selected for P-values. Summary: Background: Endovascular therapy (EVT) was demonstrated effective in acute large vessel occlusion (LVO) with large infarction. Revealing subgroups of patients who would or would not benefit from EVT will further inform patient selection for EVT. Methods: This post-hoc analysis of the ANGEL-ASPECT trial, a randomised controlled trial of 456 adult patients with acute anterior-circulation LVO and large infarction, defined by ASPECTS 3–5 or infarct core volume 70–100 mL, enrolled from 46 centres across China, between October 2, 2020 and May 18, 2022. Patients were randomly assigned (1:1) to receiving EVT and medical management or medical management alone. One patient withdrew consent, 455 patients were included in this post-hoc analysis and categorised into 4 subgroups by lower or higher NIHSS (< or ≥16) and smaller or larger infarct core (< or ≥70 mL). Those with lower NIHSS & smaller core, and higher NIHSS & larger core were considered clinical-radiological matched subgroups; otherwise clinical-radiological mismatched subgroups. Primary outcome was 90-day modified Rankin Scale (mRS). ANGEL-ASPECT is registered with ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT04551664. Findings: Overall, 139 (30.5%) patients had lower NIHSS & smaller core, 106 (23.3%) higher NIHSS & larger core, 130 (28.6%) higher NIHSS & smaller core, and 80 (17.6%) lower NIHSS & larger core. There was significant ordinal shift in the 90-day mRS toward a better outcome with EVT in clinical-radiological matched subgroups: lower NIHSS & smaller core (generalised OR, 1.76; 95% CI, 1.18–2.62; p = 0.01) and higher NIHSS & larger core (1.64; 1.06–2.54; 0.01); but not in the two clinical-radiological mismatched subgroups. Interpretation: Our findings suggested that in patients with anterior-circulation LVO and large infarction, EVT was associated with improved 90-day functional outcomes in those with matched clinical and radiological severities, but not in those with mismatched clinical and radiological severities. Simultaneous consideration of stroke severity and infarct core volume may inform patient selection for EVT. Abstract Ultra-compact spectrometers are becoming increasingly popular for their promising applications in biomedical analysis, environmental monitoring, and food safety. In this work, we report a single-pixel-photodetector spectrometer with a spectral range from 480 nm to 820 nm, based on the AlGaAs/GaAs p-graded-n junction with a voltage-tunable optical response. To reconstruct the optical spectrum, we propose a tailored method called Neural Spectral Fields (NSF) that leverages the unique wavelength and bias-dependent responsivity matrix. Our spectrometer achieves a high spectral wavelength accuracy of up to 0.30 nm and a spectral resolution of up to 10 nm. Additionally, we demonstrate the high spectral imaging performance of the device. The compatibility of our demonstration with the standard III-V process greatly accelerates the commercialization of miniaturized spectrometers.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) ranks among the most prevalent malignant tumors, exhibiting a high incidence rate that presents a substantial threat to human health. The use of sorafenib and lenvatinib, commonly employed as single-agent targeted inhibitors, complicates the treatment process due to the absence of definitive targeting. Nevertheless, the advent of nanotechnology has injected new optimism into the domain of liver cancer therapy. Nanocarriers equipped with active targeting or passive targeting mechanisms have demonstrated the capability to deliver drugs to tumor cells with high efficiency. This approach not only facilitates precise delivery to the affected site but also enables targeted drug release, thereby enhancing therapeutic efficacy. As medical technology progresses, there is an increasing call for innovative treatment modalities, including novel chemotherapeutic agents, gene therapy, phototherapy, immunotherapy, and combinatorial treatments for HCC. These emerging therapies are anticipated to yield improved clinical outcomes for patients, while minimizing systemic toxicity and adverse effects. Consequently, the application of nanotechnology is poised to significantly improve HCC treatment. This review focused on targeted strategies for HCC and the application of nanotechnology in this area.

Tidal creeks play a crucial role in lateral transport of carbon and nutrients from tidal salt marshes. However, the specific impact of tidal creek development on carbon and nutrient distribution within the marsh remains poorly understood. The objective of this study is to assess the influence of lateral tidal flooding through the tidal creeks on the spatial distribution of carbon and nitrogen fractions in the soils of a Chinese temperate salt marsh. We conducted a comprehensive analysis of the relative variations in different carbon and nitrogen fractions, along with soil physicochemical and microbial indicators, between the bank soil of the tidal creek and its lateral inland soils across high, middle, and low flats. Our findings highlight that tidal creek development significantly affects the middle flat, leading to substantial variations in organic carbon and total nitrogen. The low flat mainly experiences changes in dissolved inorganic carbon levels. Furthermore, a lateral increase in microbial biomass is observed in the middle flat, indicating that the significantly lower SOC in the middle flat might be ascribed to enhanced microbial decomposition. The lateral enrichment of dissolved inorganic carbon in the low flat is possibly related to the nearshore location and/or abiotic adsorption in inorganic carbon sequestration. Overall, this study demonstrates the critical role of tidal creek development in shaping the distribution patterns of carbon and nitrogen fractions in tidal salt marshes.

The outbreak of African Swine Fever (ASF) has caused huge economic losses to the pig industry. There are no safe and effective vaccines or diagnostics available. The p30 protein serves as a key target for the detection of ASFV antibodies and is an essential antigenic protein for early serological diagnosis. Here, the p30 protein was purified after being expressed in E. coli and its immunogenicity was verified in sera from pigs naturally infected with ASFV. Furthermore, a monoclonal antibody (McAb) designated as McAb 1B4G2–4 (subtype IgG1/kappa-type) was produced and it was verified to specifically recognize the ASFV Pig/HLJ/2018/strain and eukaryotic recombinant ASFV p30 protein. The epitope identified by McAb 1B4G2–4, defining the unique B-cell epitope 164HNFIQTI170, was located using peptide scanning. Comparing amino acid (aa) sequence revealed that this epitope is conserved in all reference ASFV strains from different regions of China, including the highly pathogenic strain Georgia 2007/1 (NC_044959.2) that is widely distributed. It is also exposed to the surface of the p30 protein, suggesting that it could be an important B-cell epitope. Our study may serve as a basis for the development of serological diagnostic methods and subunit vaccines.

Abstract The authors propose a computationally efficient approach to estimate the directions of arrival of far‐field sources impinging on a sensor array. The proposed estimator is formed using a sparse reconstruction framework, employing a novel adaptive grid selection technique to reduce the dimensionality of the used dictionary matrix. The method further makes use of a SPICE‐inspired dictionary to adaptively select an appropriate regularisation parameter and to select the active grid set. An adaptive stepsize selection strategy is also introduced to reduce computation complexity further. The proposed method allows for accurate direction‐of‐arrival (DOA) estimates using even a single snapshot, also from weak sources. Numerical simulations indicate that the method offers preferable performance in comparison to existing state‐of‐the‐art DOA estimation algorithms.

Abstract As of 2021, over 2.8 million small-incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) procedures have been performed in China. However, knowledge regarding the selection of intraocular lens (IOL) power calculation formula for post-SMILE cataract patients remains limited. This study included 52 eyes of 26 myopic patients from northern China who underwent SMILE at Tianjin Eye Hospital from September 2022 to February 2023 to investigate the suitability of multiple IOL calculation formulas in post-SMILE patients using a theoretical surgical model. We compared the postoperative results obtained from three artificial intelligence (AI)-based formulas and six conventional formulas provided by the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS). These formulas were applied to calculate IOL power using both total keratometry (TK) and keratometry (K) values, and the results were compared to the preoperative results obtained from the Barrett Universal II (BUII) formula for the SMILE patients. Abstract The African swine fever (ASF) pandemics pose a significant threat to the global swine industry, and the development of safe and effective vaccines is a daunting but necessary challenge. The level and persistence of immunity are very important for the effectiveness of the vaccine. Targeting antigens to antigen presenting cells (APCs) can greatly enhance immunogenicity. In this study, we developed a self-assembled nano-ASFV vaccine candidate (NanoFVax) targeting DCs, by covalently coupling the self-assembled 24-mer ferritin with the dominant B and T cell epitopes of the highly immunogenic ASFV antigen (p72, CD2v, pB602L and p30) and fused with the chemokine receptor XCL1 (a DC targeting molecule) through the SpyTag/SpyCatcher protein ligase system. Compared to monomeric protein, the nanoparticle vaccines can induce a more robust T-cell response, and the high-level antibody response against ASFV can last for more than 231 days. Therefore, the NanoFVax is a novel and promising vaccine candidate for ASFV. Graphical Abstract

Abstract Reducing carbon emissions and attaining sustainable economic, social, and environmental development are vital components of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Previous research has overlooked the influence of the digital economy on urban carbon decoupling. To bridge this gap, this study employs GIS software and econometric models for analyzing the spatial distribution and characteristics of the digital economy and carbon decoupling and also investigates the direct, heterogeneous, and spatial effects of the digital economy on carbon decoupling. This study reveals: (1) A lesser digital economy presence in the northeast and northwest, while more developed in the Southeast Coast and municipalities directly under the Central Government. Cities with weak carbon decoupling are concentrated in Northeast and North China. (2) The digital economy and the decoupling of urban carbon emissions have spatial correlation and agglomeration characteristics. (3) The digital economy can contribute to decoupling carbon emissions in cities. (4) Improved urban carbon decoupling by the digital economy in central, eastern, and non-resource-based cities. (5) Spatial spillover effect in urban carbon emissions decoupling, yet the digital economy worsens nearby cities’ carbon decoupling due to a siphon effect. That research indicates that the digital economy holds significant promise not only in advancing human progress, bridging the digital divide, and fostering social development but also in driving the decoupling of urban carbon emissions.

Abstract Background As the two most prevalent refractive surgeries in China, there is a substantial number of patients who have undergone Femtosecond Laser-assisted In Situ Keratomileusis (FS-LASIK) and Small Incision Lenticule Extraction (SMILE) procedures. However, there is still limited knowledge regarding the selection of intraocular lens (IOL) power calculation formulas for these patients with a history of FS-LASIK or SMILE. Methods A total of 100 eyes from 50 postoperative refractive surgery patients were included in this prospective cohort study, with 25 individuals (50 eyes) having undergone FS-LASIK and 25 individuals (50 eyes) having undergone SMILE. We utilized a theoretical surgical model to simulate the IOL implantation process in postoperative FS-LASIK and SMILE patients. Subsequently, we performed comprehensive biological measurements both before and after the surgeries, encompassing demographic information, corneal biometric parameters, and axial length. Various formulas, including the Barrett Universal II (BUII) formula, as a baseline, were employed to calculate IOL power for the patients. Results The Barrett True K (BTK) formula, demonstrated an mean absolute error (AE) within 0.5 D for both FS-LASIK and SMILE groups (0.28 ± 0.25 D and 0.36 ± 0.24 D, respectively). Notably, the FS-LASIK group showed 82% of results differing by less than 0.25 D compared to preoperative BUII results. The Barrett True K No History (BTKNH) formula, which also incorporates measured posterior corneal curvature, performed similarly to BTK in both groups. Additionally, the Masket formula, relying on refractive changes based on empirical experience, displayed promising potential for IOL calculations in SMILE patients compared with BTK (p = 0.411). Conclusion The study reveals the accuracy and stability of the BTK and BTKNH formulas for IOL power calculations in myopic FS-LASIK/SMILE patients. Moreover, the Masket formula shows encouraging results in SMILE patients. These findings contribute to enhancing the predictability and success of IOL power calculations in patients with a history of refractive surgery, providing valuable insights for clinical practice. Further research and larger sample sizes are warranted to validate and optimize the identified formulas for better patient outcomes.

Abstract Objectives This study aims to establish nomograms to accurately predict the overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) who received chemotherapy alone as the first-line treatment. Materials and methods In a training cohort of 121 NSCLC patients, radiomic features were extracted, selected from intra- and peri-tumoral regions, and used to build signatures (S1 and S2) using a Cox regression model. Deep learning features were obtained from three convolutional neural networks and utilized to build signatures (S3, S4, and S5) that were stratified into over- and under-expression subgroups for survival risk using X-tile. After univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses, a nomogram incorporating the tumor, node, and metastasis (TNM) stages, radiomic signature, and deep learning signature was established to predict OS and PFS, respectively. The performance was validated using an independent cohort (61 patients). Results TNM stages, S2 and S3 were identified as the significant prognosis factors for both OS and PFS; S2 (OS: (HR (95%), 2.26 (1.40–3.67); PFS: (HR (95%), 2.23 (1.36–3.65)) demonstrated the best ability in discriminating patients with over- and under-expression. For the OS nomogram, the C-index (95% CI) was 0.74 (0.70–0.79) and 0.72 (0.67–0.78) in the training and validation cohorts, respectively; for the PFS nomogram, the C-index (95% CI) was 0.71 (0.68–0.81) and 0.72 (0.66–0.79). The calibration curves for the 3- and 5-year OS and PFS were in acceptable agreement between the predicted and observed survival. The established nomogram presented a higher overall net benefit than the TNM stage for predicting both OS and PFS. Conclusion By integrating the TNM stage, CT radiomic signature, and deep learning signatures, the established nomograms can predict the individual prognosis of NSCLC patients who received chemotherapy. The integrated nomogram has the potential to improve the individualized treatment and precise management of NSCLC patients.

Integrated pest management relies upon mutual compatibility among pest control tactics. The fruit-boring moths Carposina sasakii and Grapholita molesta can be devastating pests of pome and stone fruit production. Trichogramma dendrolimi parasitizes the eggs of these pests, preventing their eclosion, but its efficacy can be reduced by other pest control tactics. We tested T. dendrolimi attraction to five colors, and moth attraction to six colors, in laboratory choice tests, and thereafter deployed yellow sticky cards in tandem with releases of T. dendrolimi in field trials in a pear orchard. Yellow sticky cards deployed at high density trapped T. dendrolimi and reduced their numbers post-release. They also trapped adult G. molesta, which appeared to compensate for reduced egg parasitism on this species, but not on C. sasakii, which had higher abundance in plots with yellow sticky cards. The cards also captured adult lacewings, likely reducing their numbers in the field, but did not capture large numbers of lady beetles. The results suggest that yellow sticky cards can be used at high density to control aphids, psyllids and leafhoppers in early spring (March and April) when natural enemies are in low numbers, then removed in May so as not to interfere with augmentative releases of T. dendrolimi that must be timed to coincide with peak flights of fruit-boring moths. This strategy should enhance the compatibility of yellow sticky cards with egg parasitoid releases.

Microorganisms harbor catabolic plasmids to tackle refractory organic pollutants, which is crucial for bioremediation and ecosystem health. Understanding the impacts of plasmids on hosts provides insights into the behavior and adaptation of degrading bacteria in the environment. Here, we examined alterations in the physiological properties and gene expression profiles of Rhodococcus sp. strain p52 after losing two conjugative dioxin-catabolic megaplasmids (pDF01 and pDF02). The growth of strain p52 accelerated after pDF01 loss, while it decelerated after pDF02 loss. During dibenzofuran degradation, the expression levels of dibenzofuran catabolic genes on pDF01 were higher compared to those on pDF02; accordingly, pDF01 loss markedly slowed dibenzofuran degradation. It was suggested that pDF01 is more beneficial to strain p52 under dibenzofuran exposure. Moreover, plasmid loss decreased biofilm formation, especially after pDF02 loss. Transcriptome profiling revealed different pathways enriched in upregulated and downregulated genes after pDF01 and pDF02 loss, indicating different adaptation mechanisms. Based on the transcriptional activity variation, pDF01 played roles in transcription and anabolic processes, while pDF02 profoundly influenced energy production and cellular defense. This study enhances our knowledge of the impacts of degradative plasmids on native hosts and the adaptation mechanisms of hosts, contributing to the application of plasmid-mediated bioremediation in contaminated environments.

Isoamyl 4-methoxycinnamate (IMC) is widely used in various fields because of its exceptional UV-filter properties. However, due to its cytotoxicity and anti-microbial degradability, the potential eco-environmental toxicity of IMC has become a focus of attention. In this study, we propose a host–guest supramolecule approach to enhance the functionality of IMC, resulting in a more environmentally friendly and high-performance materials. Sulfobutyl-β-cyclodextrin sodium salt (SBE-β-CD) was used as the host molecule. IMC-SBE-β-CD supramolecular substances were prepared through the “saturated solution method”, and their properties and biosecurity were evaluated. Meanwhile, we conducted the AOS tree evaluation system that surpasses existing evaluation approaches based on apoptosis, oxidative stress system, and signaling pathways to investigate the toxicological mechanisms of IMC-SBE-β-CD within human hepatoma SMMC-7721 cells as model organisms. The AOS tree evaluation system aims to offer the comprehensive analysis of the cytotoxic effects of IMC-SBE-β-CD. Our findings showed that IMC-SBE-β-CD had an encapsulation rate of 84.45% and optimal stability at 30 °C. Further, IMC-SBE-β-CD promoted cell growth and reproduction without compromising the integrity of mitochondria and nucleus or disrupting oxidative stress and apoptosis-related pathways. Compared to IMC, IMC-SBE-β-CD is biologically safe and has improved water solubility with the UV absorption property maintained. Our study provides the foundation for the encapsulation of hydrophobic, low-toxicity organic compounds using cyclodextrins and offers valuable insights for future research in this field.

While confronted with unfavorable growth conditions, bacteria may transform into the dormant state, such as viable but nonculturable (VBNC) state, which is a reversible state characterized by low metabolic activity and lack of division. These dormant cells can be reactivated through the influence of the resuscitation promoting factor (Rpf) family, which are classified as autocrine growth factors and possess peptidoglycan hydrolase activities. To date, with the significant resuscitation or growth promotion ability of Rpf, it has been extensively applied to increasing bacterial diversity and isolating functional microbial species. This review provides a comprehensive analysis of the distribution, mode of action, and functional mechanisms of Rpf proteins in various bacterial species. The aim is to create opportunities for decoding microbial communities and extracting microbial resources from real samples across different research fields.

The hybrid active power filter (HAPF) can effectively suppress the 75–125 Hz low-frequency harmonic current generated by the EAST poloidal field power supply. However, the low-frequency harmonic current suppression performance of HAPF is greatly affected by its control parameters when the circuit parameters are determined. In this paper, the state–space equation of the HAPF system is established, and the relationship between the eigenvalues of the state–space matrix and the HAPF control parameters is analyzed using the Lyapunov method. Based on the variation law of the eigenvalues, by optimizing the control parameters of the HAPF system, the low-frequency harmonic current suppression performance of HAPF is improved by 41.9%.

Two-dimensional van der Waals heterostructures have good application prospects in solar energy conversion due to their excellent optoelectronic performance. In this work, the electronic structures of Sc2CF2/Sc2CCl2, Sc2CF2/Sc2CBr2, and Sc2CCl2/Sc2CBr2 heterostructures, as well as their properties in photocatalysis and photovoltaics, have been comprehensively studied using the first-principles method. Firstly, both of the three thermodynamically and dynamically stable heterostructures are found to have type-II band alignment with band gap values of 0.58 eV, 0.78 eV, and 1.35 eV. Meanwhile, the photogenerated carriers in Sc2CF2/Sc2CCl2 and Sc2CF2/Sc2CBr2 heterostructures are predicated to follow the direct Z-scheme path, enabling their abilities for water splitting. As for the Sc2CCl2/Sc2CBr2 heterostructure, its photovoltaic conversion efficiency is estimated to be 20.78%. Significantly, the light absorption coefficients of Sc2CF2/Sc2CCl2, Sc2CF2/Sc2CBr2, and Sc2CCl2/Sc2CBr2 heterostructures are enhanced more than those of the corresponding monolayers. Moreover, biaxial strains have been observed to considerably tune the aforementioned properties of heterostructures. All the theoretical results presented in this work demonstrate the application potential of Sc2CX2/Sc2CY2 (X, Y = F, Cl, Br) heterostructures in photocatalysis and photovoltaics.

Cancer represents a significant threat to human health. The cells and tissues within the microenvironment of solid tumors exhibit complex and abnormal properties in comparison to healthy tissues. The efficacy of nanomedicines is inhibited by the presence of substantial and complex physical barriers in the tumor tissue. The latest generation of intelligent drug delivery systems, particularly nanomedicines capable of charge reversal, have shown promise in addressing this issue. These systems can transform their charge from negative to positive upon reaching the tumor site, thereby enhancing tumor penetration via transcytosis and promoting cell internalization by interacting with the negatively charged cell membranes. The modification of nanocarriers with 2,3-dimethylmaleic anhydride (DMMA) and its derivatives, which are responsive to weak acid stimulation, represents a significant advance in the field of charge-reversal nanomedicines. This review provides a comprehensive examination of the recent insights into DMMA-modified nanocarriers in drug delivery systems, with a particular focus on their potential in targeted therapeutics. It also discusses the synthesis of DMMA derivatives and their role in charge reversal, shell detachment, size shift, and ligand reactivation mechanisms, offering the prospect of a tailored, next-generation therapeutic approach to overcome the diverse challenges associated with cancer therapy.

Abstract Background Active workstations have been proposed as a feasible approach for reducing occupational sedentary time. This study used a network meta-analysis (NMA) to assess and compare the overall efficacy of active workstation interventions according to type and concomitant strategy for reducing work-specific sitting time in office workers. Methods PubMed, Web of Science, EMBASE, and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL) databases were searched from database inception until May 2022 to obtain randomized controlled trials (RCTs) assessing the efficacy of active workstations with or without concomitant strategies for reducing occupational sedentary time in office workers. The risk of bias of the RCTs included in this study was assessed according to the Cochrane Handbook. An NMA with STATA 15.1 was used to construct a network diagram, league figures, and the final surface under the cumulative ranking curve (SUCRA) values. The certainty of evidence was assessed using the grading of recommendations, assessment, development, and evaluation (GRADE) approach. Results A total of 23 eligible studies including eight different types of interventions with 1428 office workers were included. NMA results showed that compared to a typical desk, multicomponent intervention (standardized mean difference (SMD) = − 1.50; 95% confidence interval (CI) − 2.17, − 0.82; SUCRA = 72.4%), sit-stand workstation + promotion (Reminders of rest breaks, posture variation, or incidental office activity) (SMD = − 1.49; 95%CI − 2.42, − 0.55; SUCRA = 71.0%), treadmill workstation + promotion (SMD = − 1.29; 95%CI − 2.51, − 0.07; SUCRA = 61.6%), and sit-stand workstation (SMD = − 1.10, 95%CI − 1.64, − 0.56; SUCRA = 50.2%) were effective in reducing occupational sedentary time for office workers. Conclusions Multicomponent intervention, sit-stand workstation + promotion, treadmill workstation + promotion, and sit-stand workstation appear to be effective in reducing work-specific sedentary time for office workers. Furthermore, multicomponent interventions and active workstations + promotion better reduced work-specific sedentary time than active workstation alone. However, the overall certainty of the evidence was low. Abstract Structural variations (SVs) are a major source of domestication and improvement traits. We present the first duck pan‐genome constructed using five genome assemblies capturing ∼40.98 Mb new sequences. This pan‐genome together with high‐depth sequencing data (∼46.5×) identified 101,041 SVs, of which substantial proportions were derived from transposable element (TE) activity. Many TE‐derived SVs anchoring in a gene body or regulatory region are linked to duck's domestication and improvement. By combining quantitative genetics with molecular experiments, we, for the first time, unraveled a 6945 bp Gypsy insertion as a functional mutation of the major gene IGF2BP1 associated with duck bodyweight. This Gypsy insertion, to our knowledge, explains the largest effect on bodyweight among avian species (27.61% of phenotypic variation). In addition, we also examined another 6634 bp Gypsy insertion in MITF intron, which triggers a novel transcript of MITF, thereby contributing to the development of white plumage. Our findings highlight the importance of using a pan‐genome as a reference in genomics studies and illuminate the impact of transposons in trait formation and livestock breeding.

Objective: Internet-based cognitive behavior therapy (ICBT) may provide an accessible alternative to face-to-face treatment, but the evidence base in adolescents is limited. This systematic review and meta-analysis aims to comprehensively assess the efficacy of ICBT in addressing depression among adolescents. Methods: Four electronic databases were searched on June 8, 2023. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) evaluating the efficacy of ICBT for depression in adolescents were included. The quality of the studies was assessed using the risk of bias tool recommended by the Cochrane Handbook. Furthermore, the GRADE approach was employed to gauge the certainty of the obtained evidence. Meta-analysis was conducted using RevMan 5.4, and Egger's test was implemented through Stata for assessment of potential publication bias. Results: A total of 18 RCTs involving 1683 patients were included. In comparison to control groups like attention control, waiting list, and treatment as usual, our meta-analysis findings elucidate a significant reduction in depression scores (SMD = −0.42, 95 % CI: [−0.74, −0.11], p .05). Conclusion: Results provide evidence of the efficacy of ICBT to reduce depressive and anxiety symptoms in adolescents. These research findings are of vital significance for the establishment of evidence-based treatment guidelines in the digital era. Trial registration: PROSPERO registration: CRD42021277562.

Abstract Background and Objective Considering that physicians and patients widely use acupuncture, it is necessary to explore its adverse effects during treatment. Herein, an evidence map was generated based on published studies to identify acupuncture-induced adverse effects and assess their severity, with the overarching goal of providing references for safe and effective implementation. Methods A comprehensive literature search was performed in four public databases (PubMed, Embase, Web of science, and the Cochrane Library) to identify relevant studies published up to 15th June 2022. In addition, relevant studies were explored in the Epistemonikos database and reference lists were retrieved as a supplement. A MeaSurement Tool to Assess systematic Reviews, Version 2 (AMSTAR-2) quality assessment tool was applied to determine the methodological quality of included systematic reviews (SRs) and/or meta-analysis (MAs), whereas Microsoft Excel 2019 tool was used for data extraction and coding. Heatmaps were generated to display disease type, countries of origin for the first authors, and the sample sizes of original studies. Moreover, bubble charts comprehensively presented intervention categories, adverse reaction types, and evidence levels. Results A total of 535 SRs involving 33 adverse reactions were included. Among them, 22 studies were rated as high quality, 28 as moderate, 106 as low, and the rest were of critically-low quality. Numerous adverse effects were described in the studies, including syncope (86 SRs), organ or tissue injury (233 SRs), systemic reactions (113 SRs), infection (19 SRs), and other adverse events (373 SRs). Importantly, these adverse reactions were mainly associated with 19 acupuncture techniques, including electroacupuncture (n = 67), manual acupuncture (n = 47) and acupoint catgut embedding (n = 41). Furthermore, the 535 SRs described 23 diseases, among which symptoms, signs or clinical findings (83 SRs), mental, behavioral or neurodevelopmental disorders (67 SRs), and diseases of the nervous system (66 SRs) had the highest incidence. Conclusion This evidence mapping explores the adverse effects of acupuncture, showing that there are multiple types of adverse reactions to acupuncture, with milder symptoms. The methodological assessment revealed that most of the included studies were of low- or critically low-quality. Therefore, there is a need for future randomized controlled trials and SRs to comprehensively analyze acupuncture-related adverse events in order to provide reliable and credible evidence.

In-person social events bring people to places, while people and places influence where and what social events occur. Knowing what people do and where they build social relationships gives insights into the distribution and availability of places for social functions. We developed a Bayesian Network model, integrating points of interest (POIs) and sociodemographic characteristics, to estimate the probabilistic effects of places and people on the presence of social events. A case study in Dallas demonstrated the utility and performance of the model. The Bayesian Network model predicted the presence likelihoods for seven types of social events with an R2 value around 0.83 (95% confidence interval). For both the presence and absence of social events at locations, the model predictions were within a 20% error for most event types. Furthermore, the model suggested POI, age, education, and population density configurations as important contextual variables for place–event associations across locations. A spatial cluster analysis identified likely multifunctional hotspots for social events (i.e., socially vibrant places). While psychological and cultural factors likely contribute further to local likelihoods of social event occurrences, the proposed conceptually informed geospatial data-science approach elucidated intricate place–people–event relationships and implicates inclusive, participatory places for urban development.

Introduction: Health workers in rural and remote areas shoulder heavy responsibilities for rural residents. This systematic review aims to assess the effectiveness of continuing education programs for health workers in rural and remote areas. Methods: Eight electronic databases were searched on 28 November 2021. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and quasi-experimental studies evaluating the effectiveness of continuing education for health workers in rural and remote areas were included. The quality of the studies was assessed using the risk of bias tool provided by Effective Practice and Organization of Care. A meta-analysis was performed for eligible trials, and the other findings were presented as a narrative review because of inconsistent study types and outcomes. Results: A total of 17 studies were included, four of which were RCTs. The results of the meta-analysis showed that compared to no intervention, continuing education programs significantly improved the knowledge awareness rate of participants (odds ratio=4.09, 95% confidence interval 2.51-6.67, p

Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a life-threatening postoperative complication of malignant tumors. We identified risk factors for postoperative VTE in patients undergoing radical resection of colorectal cancer (CRC) and constructed and validated a clinical prediction model. Clinical data of 982 patients undergoing radical resection of CRC from September 1, 2020, to March 31, 2022, in Ningxia Medical University General Hospital were analyzed retrospectively. Patients were randomly divided into training ( n = 617) and validation groups ( n = 264). Data included baseline characteristics, preoperative complications, examination results, and intraoperative and postoperative indicators. Logistic regression analysis was used to determine risk factors, build a predictive model, and draw a predictive nomogram (CRSPOT). Pueraria thomsonii Radix. as an important edible and medicinal plant in China, its effects and mechanisms on alcoholic liver disease (ALD) remain unclear. Herein, we investigated the effects and mechanisms of the water extracts of Pueraria thomsonii (WEPT) in the ALD rat model induced by Chinese Baijiu. The results revealed that, a total of 23 compounds were obtained from the WEPT by UPLC-Q-TOF-MS. Compared with the model group, WEPT group showed a significant decrease in liver index and serum levels of alanine transaminase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and Cytochrome P450 2E1 (CYP2E1) levels in the livers, with a significant increase in ethanol dehydrogenase (ADH) and acetaldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH) levels in the livers, significantly reduced the expression of HSP90, p-AKT, p-IKK and NOX4 in the liver tissues. Our study demonstrates that Pueraria thomsonii Radix may be beneficial food for alcoholic liver disease, by inhibited the PI3K/AKT and NOX4/ROS signaling pathways.

ObjectiveTo discern long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) with prognostic relevance in the context of lung squamous cell carcinoma (LUSC), we intend to predict target genes by leveraging The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) repository. Subsequently, we aim to investigate the proliferative potential of critical lncRNAs within the LUSC milieu.MethodsDESeq2 was employed to identify differentially expressed genes within the TCGA database. Following this, we utilized both univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses to identify lncRNAs with prognostic relevance. Noteworthy lncRNAs were selected for validation in cell lines. The intracellular localization of these lncRNAs was ascertained through nucleocytoplasmic isolation experiments. Additionally, the impact of these lncRNAs on cellular proliferation, invasion, and migration capabilities was investigated using an Antisense oligonucleotides (ASO) knockdown system.ResultsMultivariate Cox regression identified a total of 12 candidate genes, consisting of seven downregulated lncRNAs (BRE-AS1, CCL15-CCL14, DNMBP-AS1, LINC00482, LOC100129034, MIR22HG, PRR26) and five upregulated lncRNAs (FAM83A-AS1, LINC00628, LINC00923, LINC01341, LOC100130691). The target genes associated with these lncRNAs exhibit significant enrichment within diverse biological pathways, including metabolic processes, cancer pathways, MAPK signaling, PI3K-Akt signaling, protein binding, cellular components, cellular transformation, and other functional categories. Furthermore, nucleocytoplasmic fractionation experiments demonstrated that LINC00923 and LINC01341 are predominantly localized within the cellular nucleus. Subsequent investigations utilizing CCK-8 assays and colony formation assays revealed that the knockdown of LINC00923 and LINC01341 effectively suppressed the proliferation of H226 and H1703 cells. Additionally, transwell assays showed that knockdown of LINC00923 and LINC01341 significantly attenuated the invasive and migratory capacities of H226 and H1703 cells.ConclusionThis study has identified 12 candidate lncRNA associated with prognostic implications, among which LINC00923 and LINC01341 exhibit potential as markers for the prediction of LUSC outcomes.

Summary: Background: In a previous phase 3 clinical trial, we showed that an inactivated poliovirus vaccine derived from the Sabin strain (sIPV) can induce neutralising antibodies against currently circulating and reference wild poliovirus strains. However, the immune persistence of sIPV remains to be evaluated. Methods: In this study, 400 participants who were eligible for an early phase 3 clinical trial (Jan 1, 2012–Aug 31, 2014) in Pingle County, GuanXi Province, China, were initially involved in one site. Of the participants in the previous phase 3 clinical trial, sera of 287, 262, 237, and 207 participants were sampled at the ages of 4, 6, 8, and 10 years, respectively, after the prime-boost regimen. Neutralising antibodies against attenuated Sabin strains were detected using these serum samples to determine immune persistence. The serum neutralising antibodies titre of 1:8 against poliovirus types 1, 2, and 3 is considered to be a seroprotection level for polio. The trial is registered at ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT01510366. Findings: The protective rates against poliovirus types 1, 2, and 3 in the sIPV group were all 100% at 10 years after the booster immunisation, compared with 98.1%, 100%, and 97.1%, respectively, in the wIPV control group after 10 years. After the booster at 18 months, the geometric mean titres (GMTs) of neutralising antibodies against poliovirus types 1, 2, and 3 in the sIPV group were 13,265.6, 7856.7, and 6432.2, respectively, and the GMTs in the control group (inoculated with inactivated poliovirus vaccine derived from wild strain (wIPV)) were 3915.6, 2842.6, and 4982.7, respectively. With increasing time after booster immunisation, the GMTs of neutralising antibodies against poliovirus types 1, 2, and 3 gradually decreased in both the sIPV and wIPV groups. At the age of ten years, the GMTs of neutralising antibodies against poliovirus types 1, 2, and 3 in the sIPV group were 452.3, 392.8, and 347.5, respectively, and the GMTs in the wIPV group 108.5, 154.8, and 229.3, respectively, which were still at a higher-than-protective level (1:8). Interpretation: Both sIPV and wIPV maintained sufficiently high immune persistence against poliovirus types 1, 2, and 3 for at least 10 years after booster immunisation. Background: The prognosis of chemotherapy is important in clinical decision-making for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients. Objectives: To develop a model for predicting treatment response to chemotherapy in NSCLC patients from pre-chemotherapy CT images. Materials and Methods: This retrospective multicenter study enrolled 485 patients with NSCLC who received chemotherapy alone as a first-line treatment. Two integrated models were developed using radiomic and deep-learning-based features. First, we partitioned pre-chemotherapy CT images into spheres and shells with different radii around the tumor (0–3, 3–6, 6–9, 9–12, 12–15 mm) containing intratumoral and peritumoral regions. Second, we extracted radiomic and deep-learning-based features from each partition. Third, using radiomic features, five sphere–shell models, one feature fusion model, and one image fusion model were developed. Finally, the model with the best performance was validated in two cohorts. Results: Among the five partitions, the model of 9–12 mm achieved the highest area under the curve (AUC) of 0.87 (95% confidence interval: 0.77–0.94). The AUC was 0.94 (0.85–0.98) for the feature fusion model and 0.91 (0.82–0.97) for the image fusion model. For the model integrating radiomic and deep-learning-based features, the AUC was 0.96 (0.88–0.99) for the feature fusion method and 0.94 (0.85–0.98) for the image fusion method. The best-performing model had an AUC of 0.91 (0.81–0.97) and 0.89 (0.79–0.93) in two validation sets, respectively. Conclusions: This integrated model can predict the response to chemotherapy in NSCLC patients and assist physicians in clinical decision-making.
