The mainstream thoughts of physical education in China in the middle and late 20th century have profoundly influenced the development of current physical education in China. The physical education thought represented by WANG Zhanchun is inspiring to the current reform of physical education. Through the collection, analysis, deciphering and sorting of historical materials such as WANG Zhanchun's interviews with his colleagues and his academic works, the study concludes that: WANG Zhanchun's physical education thought is embodied in three aspects: fundamental theory, construction theory and security theory; Its contribution lies in the integration of physical education theory and the construction of new China's physical education curriculum textbook system; As a practice-oriented thinker, WANG Zhanchun's thought has strong integration and practicality, but it also has certain limitations of the times. Enlightenment: In the reform of physical education, we should take the national demand as the political orientation, take "three basic" teaching, physical fitness and moral education as the basic content, and take investigation and pragmatism as the reform path.
