1. FITA: Fine-grained Image-Text Aligner for Radiology Report Generation

Abstract

Radiology report generation aims to automatically generate detailed and coherent descriptive reports alongside radiology images. Previous work mainly focused on refining fine-grained image features or leveraging external knowledge. However, the precise alignment of fine-grained image features with corresponding text descriptions has not been considered. This paper presents a novel method called Fine-grained Image-Text Aligner (FITA) to construct fine-grained alignment for image and text features. It has three novel designs: Image Feature Refiner (IFR), Text Feature Refiner (TFR) and Contrastive Aligner (CA). IFR and TFR aim to learn fine-grained image and text features, respectively. We achieve this by leveraging saliency maps to effectively fuse symptoms with corresponding abnormal visual regions, and by utilizing a meticulously constructed triplet set for training. Finally, CA module aligns fine-grained image and text features using contrastive loss for precise alignment. Abstract

Atmospheric turbulence parameters, such as turbulent kinetic energy and dissipation rate, are of great significance in weather prediction, meteorological disasters, and forecasting. Due to the lack of ideal direct detection methods, traditional structure function methods are mainly based on Kolmogorov's assumption of local isotropic turbulence and the well-known -5/3 power law within the inertial subrange, which limits their application. Here, we propose a method for directly measuring atmospheric turbulence parameters using coherent Doppler wind lidar, which can directly obtain atmospheric turbulence parameters and vertical structural features, breaking the limitations of traditional methods. The first published spatiotemporal distribution map of the power-law exponent of the inertial subrange is provided in this study, which indicates the heterogeneity of atmospheric turbulence at different altitudes and also indicates that the power-law exponent at high altitudes does not fully comply with the -5/3 power law, proving the superiority of our method. We analyze the results under different weather conditions, indicating that the method still holds. The turbulent kinetic energy and power-law index obtained by this method are continuously compared with the results obtained with an ultrasonic anemometer for a month-long period. The results of the two have high consistency and correlation, verifying the accuracy and applicability of the proposed method. Abstract

The height of the stable boundary layer is a key parameter in atmospheric transmission and diffusion, air quality, emergency response, wind energy, and numerical weather prediction models. Existing methods mainly determine the stable boundary layer height via a threshold or minimum value of the wind speed variance under a low-level jet. Based on multi-meteorological element data from a meteorological gradient observation tower, this paper revealed the limitations of existing methods from the perspective of dynamic and thermal effects. In this paper, it is demonstrated that there were four types of shapes of the wind speed variance profile under the low-level jet and a method for using the shape of the variance profile to retrieve the height of the stable boundary layer was proposed. This method distinguished different types of wind speed variance profiles and solved the problems of the misjudgment and omissions (about 34%) present in existing methods. Our experiment showed that the average absolute error of the proposed method was less than 18 m and the average relative error was less than 9%. The results showed that the proposed inversion method was extended to all kinds of wind field detection equipment for inversion of the stable boundary layer height and has very high universality. Abstract

The range of detection and accuracy of currently available Raman temperature LiDAR systems are primarily improved by increasing the energy or the aperture of the receiving telescope. However, this does not lead to a corresponding linear increase in the distance of detection and accuracy of the system. In this paper, the authors construct a simulation model and optimize its parameters to develop a Raman temperature LiDAR with low energy and a small aperture that has a maximum distance of detection of over 5 km during the day and over 10 km at night. The profile of the atmospheric temperature obtained through field tests was in good agreement with the results of a radiosonde. The maximum correlation between the Raman temperature LiDAR and the radiosonde was 0.94 at night and 0.81 during the day. The results showed that the proposed Raman temperature LiDAR, with low energy and a small aperture, can provide reliable data on the temperature in the troposphere throughout the day. Abstract

By using a four dimensional data assimilation technology based on the nudging method, a real-time data assimilation system with horizontal resolution of 1km was established in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province to assimilate high-density and high-frequency observation data of Shenzhen and its surrounding areas, so as to form real-time reanalysis data. The quality evaluation of real-time reanalysis data was carried out by using the ground area automatic station and vertical wind profile data, the results showed that the real-time reanalysis data obtained from the system by assimilating multi-source and high-frequency data could effectively simulated the surface and vertical temperature and wind meteorological features of Shenzhen. Based on the real-time gridded reanalysis data set, Shenzhen Meteorological Bureau (SZMB) has released the real-time data products to the public through Wechat and SZMB official website, which has played an important role in natural ventilation evaluation of urban units. The current study showed that the Shenzhen real-time grid meteorological data products could be expected to provide scientific and technological support for finer scale urban monitoring and construction.
