Abstract

High-resolution unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) remote sensing images have super-high ground resolution. Although they provide complete and detailed surface observation data for various engineering applications, the extraction of information from complex and diverse surface scenes is challenging. Characterising surface targets with bright colours and different shapes using samples with fixed sizes and neural networks with fixed network structures at a single resolution is difficult. Therefore, a multi-resolution classification network called structure defined by sample characteristics (SDSC) network was designed in this study. After the SDSC network learned the samples using a multi-resolution strategy and the principle of maximum classification probability, the multi-resolution classification results were integrated into the final classification results to improve their credibility and accuracy. The new method has a better cognitive performance and noise resistance, as well as broad application potential, such that it is more suitable for high-spatial resolution UAV remote sensing images. 20. Use of experimental data to generate swirl velocity in the FLUENT Fan Model

Abstract

The University of Windsor/DaimlerChrysler Fan Test Facility was used to measure the pressure rise of the fan and the detailed velocity field downstream of the fan. These measurements were made for six different conditions, comprised of two fan rotating speeds and three flow rates. At each condition, pressure rise and three components of velocity were measured on two downstream planes, at 25 mm and 100 mm below the base of the hub. In order to numerically simulate the wake of an automotive cooling fan, the FLUENT Fan Model was adopted as a boundary condition in the simulation domain. The parameters required by the fan model were generated from the experimental data. The experimental pressure rise and corresponding flow rates were used to derive the relation between the pressure rise and the average fluid velocity magnitude normal to the fan. This polynomial relation was applied in the fan model. In order to develop the relation for the radial and tangential velocity components as function of radial distance, needed in the fan model to simulate the swirl, the measurements taken on 25 mm planes were assumed to be taken at the bottom of the fan blade. Thus at a specific flow condition, the radial and tangential velocity polynomials, to be applied in the fan model, were generated from the experimental radial and tangential velocity data on the 25 mm plane. Two types of simulations were carried out, one using only the pressure rise fan boundary condition and the other using the pressure rise and swirl velocity fan boundary conditions. The effect of applying the radial and tangential velocity boundary conditions has been investigated. Comparisons between the computational pressure rise and the experimental pressure rise was made. 43. Synthesis of a novel perylene diimide derivative and its charge transfer interaction with C60.

Abstract

A novel organic electron acceptor, N,N′-dipyrimidinyl-3,4,9,10-perylene-tetracarboxylic diimide (DMP), was designed and synthesized. The molecular structure was characterized by FTIR spectrum and elemental analysis. By cyclic voltammetry measurements, DMP was found to possess a lower LUMO energy level than N,N′-diphenyl-3,4,9,10-perylene-tetracarboxylic diimide due to the stronger electron-withdrawing pyrimidinyl group than the phenyl group. Fluorescence quenching is observed in a dual-layer film consisting of a DMP layer and a C60 layer and was attributed to the charge transfer at the interface due to the energy level offset between DMP and C60. 44. High Photoconductive Vertically Oriented TiO2Nanotube Arrays and Their Composites with Copper Phthalocyanine

Abstract

Size-controllable and vertically oriented TiO2nanotube arrays were fabricated by using anodic oxidation of pure titanium sheets in electrolyte solutions and were characterized by field-emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM), and X-ray diffraction (XRD). A double-layered photoconductive device (Au/copper phthalocyanine/TiO2nanotubes/titanium) was designed and fabricated based on the TiO2nanotube arrays. The I−Vcurves demonstrated typical heterojunction characteristics and remarkable photoconductive performance for the devices. The effect of the thickness of copper phthalocyanine (CuPc) and the diameter of TiO2nanotubes on the photoconductive property of devices was studied. The current value increased by 2 or 3 orders of magnitude when exposed to light from the dark, depending on the thickness of the CuPc layer and the diameter of TiO2nanotubes.

45. Analysis and combined optimization of the cladding layer in outcoupling-improved top emitting OLEDs

Abstract

Within the associated framework of metal-dielectric films optics and the dual-metal-mirror microcavity structure, the effect of a cladding dielectric layer on the light outcoupling efficiency of the top emitting orgainic light-emitting devices (OLEDs) is analyzed. A combined evaluation followed by detailed design and optimization is proposed and described in detail. The analysis shows that this cladding layer affects the device's outcoupling efficiency with three different extents as the thickness of the metal layer in the multilayer cathode varying. The simulation results give a reasonable agreement with former experiment results.

46. Optical transitions in strained InAsSb/GaInSb interband QC lasers

Abstract

In this paper a detailed simulation and theoretical analysis based on model-solid theory and the k.p method are presented to investigate the dependence of the band structure on the strain deformation in a novel type-II quantum well (QW) heterostructure InAs_{1-y}Sb_{y}/Ga_{x}In_{1-x}Sb under the uniaxial approximation, and subsequently the optical transition and the gain in the interband cascade lasers containing it have been evaluated with unchanged injection current densities. The simulation results show that the strain effect on the transition in this heterostructure will not behave as a simple monotonic trend with the lattice mismatch of InAs_{1-y}Sb_{y}/Ga_{x}In_{1-x}Sb interface, but as a function of the complex strain chain including the whole active region. It is important to the subsequent device design and optimization.
