Background. Unexpected occupational injuries frequently occur in the automobile parts manufacturing industry. This study investigates the characteristics of occupational injuries and risk management for the workers in the industry. Methods. From the national industrial accident compensation data in Korea, 1530 occupational injuries were analyzed by nature and source of injury and illness according to work process. Also, this study derived the risk management level for prioritizing preventative measures. Results. The most critical injuries were 'ACC (amputation or caught in or crushed or compressed)' caused by 'misoperation or malfunction of machine and equipment' in the 'fabrication' and the 'maintenance' processes. Possible incidents predicted as a 'high' level of risk management were 'struck' (struck by or against objects) caused by 'misoperation or malfunction of machine and equipment' and ACC during 'installation of jig and mold' in the 'fabrication' process. ACC during 'maintenance' of 'operating jig and mold' is also classified 'high'. Discussion and conclusion. Using the findings of this study, effective preventative measures to reduce occupational injuries according to the risk level are suggested and discussed for automobile parts manufacturing works. Abstract: Mesoporous TS-1 (M-TS-1) was synthesized using a hybrid SiO2–TiO2 xerogel combined with an organosilane precursor. Prepared samples were characterized by XRD, UV–vis spectroscopy, SEM, and N2 adsorption–desorption measurement. M-TS-1, prepared in 2 days, showed high crystallinity and the best textural properties among the samples. The N2 adsorption–desorption isotherms of M-TS-1 exhibited a hysteresis loop at pressure higher than P/P 0 =0.4, clearly indicating the existence of mesopores. M-TS-1 has significantly larger mesopore volume (0.48cm3/g) than that of conventional TS-1 (0.07cm3/g), and showed a narrow peak centered at ca. 6.3nm. In the oxidative desulfurization reaction, M-TS-1 was more active than conventional TS-1 at the same Ti-loading; M-TS-1 produced a dibenzothiophene (DBT) conversion of 96%, whereas conventional TS-1 produced a final DBT conversion of 5.6% after a reaction time of 180min. Oxidative desulfurization over TS-1 was influenced both by electron density and steric hindrance in the sulfur compounds tested. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

The metal–organic frameworks CuTATB-n(TATB = 4,4′,4″-s-triazine-2,4,6-triyltribenzoate; n= power level) having either catenated (CuTATB-60) or non-catenated (CuTATB-30) structure were synthesized in 1 h viaa novel sonochemical route. The control of catenation was achieved by simple adjustment of the ultrasonic power levels. The X-ray diffraction patterns, BET surface areas (3778 and 2477 m2g−1, respectively) and pore volumes, and TGA patterns of the individual product obtained were in agreement with the published literature data of the corresponding materials known as PCN-6 (catenated) and PCN-6′ (non-catenated). Catenation of the two identical networks within large pores resulted in both high surface area and enhanced stability of the network. Such control of catenation was additionally demonstrated by successful synthesis of IRMOF-9 (catenated) and IRMOF-10 (non-catenated) pair by the same sonochemical method. CO2adsorption properties of the CuTATB-nwere measured at 273 and 298 K, which indicated the contribution of catenation in CuTATB-nfor CO2capture. The adsorption isotherms for CO2and N2show high adsorption capacity for CO2(189 mg g−1and 156 mg g−1, respectively for CuTATB-60 and -30 at 298 K) and excellent selectivity over N2(>20 : 1). Five consecutive adsorption–desorption runs performed using high purity CO2in a flow system established no deterioration in the adsorption capacity of CuTATB-60, which showed reversible adsorbent regeneration at 75 °C under He flow and excellent stability for a total duration of 800 min. Abstract: Zeolite beta with high aluminum content (BEA, Si/Al=7.4) was synthesized and evaluated as a CO2 capturing agent after conducting ion-exchange with various alkali and alkaline earth metal ions (Li+, K+, Cs+, Mg2+, Ca2+, and Ba2+). The extent of ion-exchange was confirmed by ICP-AES, and textural properties of the samples were measured by XRD, SEM, and BET surface area measurement. CO2 adsorption isotherms of the ion-exchanged beta samples up to 101.3kPa were obtained at 273 and 298K, and the corresponding heats of adsorption were estimated by the Clausius–Clapeyron equation. CO2 adsorption capacity increased in the sequence of , and all of the evaluated metal ions showed high adsorption selectivity to CO2 over N2. The best performance of K+-exchanged beta was also confirmed by a breakthrough curve analysis. Cyclic CO2 adsorption–desorption performance of the sample was also studied by TGA in a flow system, exhibiting stable cyclic runs accompanied by complete CO2 desorption at 473K. Abstract: A series of CaO samples were prepared and tested as a sorbent for global-warming CO2 gas by measuring their CO2 capture capacities at 700°C using a TGA unit. It is demonstrated that average pore size in CaO sorbents plays the governing role in deciding sorbent CO2 capture capacity, and that average pore size overrides the contributions of surface areas or pore volume. Sufficiently large pores in a macro range were necessary in CaO to prevent pore-filling and plugging by the CaCO3 produced during the carbonation process. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
