Abstract

In recent years, the efficient removal of organic pollutants from wastewater has emerged as a critical area of global research interest. Against this backdrop, an array of innovative technologies for wastewater treatment has been developed. Among numerous advanced oxidation processes (AOPs), periodate (PI), an emerging oxidizing agent in AOPs, has garnered significant attention from researchers. Particularly, the integration of ultrasound (US)-activated PI systems has been recognized as an exceptionally promising approach for the synergistic degradation of organic pollutants in wastewater. In this paper, we conducted a thorough analysis of the mechanisms underlying the degradation of organic pollutants using the US/PI system. Furthermore, we comprehensively delineated the effects of ultrasonic power, periodate concentration, temperature, pH, coexisting inorganic ions, and dissolved organic matter on the removal efficiency of organic pollutants and summarized application cases of the US/PI system for the degradation of different pollutants. Finally, we also offered prospective discussions on the future trajectories of US/PI technology development. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The predicted targets and pathways were validated in bovine type II collagen and incomplete Freund’s adjuvant emulsifier-induced rat RA model.Results: In this study, we identified 33 active components from SX, predicted to act on 44 RA-associated targets by network pharmacology. PPI network demonstrated that TNF-α, VEGF-A, IL-2, IL-6, AKT, PI3K, STAT1 may serve as the key targets of SX for the treatment of RA. The main functional pathways involving these key targets include PI3K-AKT signaling pathway, TNF signaling pathway, NF-κB signaling pathway. Abstract

Zinc (Zn) deficiency is a global nutritional problem that is reduced through agronomic biofortification. In the current study, the effects of foliar spraying of exogenous ZnSO4&middot, 7H2O (0.2% in Quzhou and 0.3% in Licheng, w/v) and/or sucrose (10.0%, w/v) on maize (Zea mays L.) agronomic traits, concentrations of Zn, iron (Fe), calcium (Ca), total phosphorus (P), phytic acid (PA) P, carbon (C), and nitrogen (N), C/N ratios, and Zn and Fe bioavailability (as evaluated by molar ratios of PA/Zn, PA &times, Ca/Zn, PA/Fe and PA &times, Ca/Fe) in maize grains were studied under field conditions for two years at two experimental locations. The results confirmed that there were no significant differences in maize agronomic traits following the various foliar treatments. Compared with the control treatment of foliar spraying with deionized water, foliar applications of Zn alone or combined with sucrose significantly increased maize grain Zn concentrations by 29.2&ndash, 58.3% in Quzhou (from 18.4&ndash, 19.9 to 25.2&ndash, 29.6 mg/kg) and by 39.8&ndash, 47.8% in Licheng (from 24.9 to 34.8&ndash, 36.8 mg/kg), as well as its bioavailability. No significant differences were found between the foliar spraying of deionized water and sucrose, and between Zn-only and &ldquo, sucrose + Zn&rdquo, at each N application rate and across different N application rates and experimental sites. Similar results were observed for maize grain Fe concentrations and bioavailability, but the Fe concentration increased to a smaller extent than Zn. Foliar Zn spraying alone or with sucrose increased maize grain Fe concentrations by 4.7&ndash, 28.4% in Quzhou (from 13.4&ndash, 17.1 to 15.2&ndash, 18.5 mg/kg) and by 15.4&ndash, 25.0% in Licheng (from 24.0 to 27.7&ndash, 30.0 mg/kg). Iron concentrations were significantly and positively correlated with Zn at each N application rate and across different N application rates and experimental locations, indicating that foliar Zn spraying facilitated the transport of endogenous Fe to maize grains. Therefore, foliar Zn spraying increased the Zn concentration and bioavailability in maize grains irrespective of foliar sucrose supply while also improving Fe concentrations and bioavailability to some extent. This is a promising agricultural practice for simultaneous Zn and Fe biofortification in maize grains, i.e., &ldquo, killing two birds with one stone&rdquo

Abstract

With the growing demand for data analysis, machine learning technology has been widely used in many applications, such as mass data summarising rules, predicting behaviours and dividing characteristics. The Ripper algorithm presents better pruning and stopping criteria than the traditional decision tree algorithm (C4.5), while its error rate less than or equal to C4.5 by O(nlog2n) time complexity. As a result of that, Ripper can maintain high efficiency even on the massive dataset which contains lots of noise. Adaboost is one of iterative algorithms, which combines a group of weak classifiers together to set up a strong classifier. In order to improve the accuracy of Ripper classification algorithm and reduce the computational complexity, this paper proposes a Ripper-Adaboost combined classification method (Ripper-ADB). The experiment result shows Ripper-ADB could improve the classifier and get higher classification accuracy than decision tree and SVM.

45. Does Gold Serve as a Hedge for the Stock Market in China? Evidence from a Time-Frequency Analysis.

Abstract

This paper uses a wavelet approach to examine the relationship between gold prices and the Chinese stock market over the past quarter-century. Our empirical study with weekly data shows that gold cannot be used as a short-term hedging tool in China in the full sample period, but it can be used as a long-term hedging tool in the sample period after 2005, concurrent with changes in Chinese government policy. This conclusion also emerges when weekly data are replaced by monthly or daily data. However, similar changes in the long-term hedging ability of gold are not observed in the UK and the US. Thus, this change in the ability of gold to serve as a hedge in China can probably be attributed to shifts in some important market policies, such as the reform in nontradable shares in the Chinese capital market and the exchange rate reform in 2005.
